Arsenal must make the home games count starting today

by & filed under Match Preview.

This will be the shortest match preview in a while, I’m in Paris, Geoff is enroute to pick me up as the trip coincides with his visit to Spain, all with the goal of making the United game today.

I’m out of the loop, so all I know is Vermaelen and Arteta are doubtful, that leaves us with a very tough task, forcing our hand into using players who are often the equivalent of warm flat coke.

If we’re short, we should adapt to a system that takes our strengths into account. The chances of that happening are slim, so we’d best hope that faith and luck weigh in to turn this around. This is career defining for many, can they justify their existence in a squad that offers little value out of a fit 14? A big match on many levels!

I’ll leave the comments section to give the rest of the post, enjoy the game!

We’re in decline, the Chavs are going upwards

They’re building momentum and soon will be flying, hope to be found wrong there

Chavs have a better squad, they will add we won’t. They already brought Cahill, they’ll bring another midfielder and they’re sorted out

Arsene will bring fuck zilch, any Robin’s injury and we’re struggling badly

By the way before the panic buys, we were going to struggle. Arteta Per and Santos made us much better

Look how much we struggle without 2 of those

Al – surely we played better after half time because Yennaris’ pace closed off their main attacking threat from the 1st half, which was JD getting roasted every time the ball went to Nani?
Maybe or maybe it is because we booed them?….i think you missed the point, the point i was getting at was you do not know the effect that the booing has but you are using it as an excuse and you have been pretty adament it was the booing the lost us our momentum….that is wrong

  3. Bade

    We’re a Robin injury from 7th really….

We’re so lucky to be 5th, as Toons and Scousers play so shite it is amusing

  4. Bade

Ok I’ll leave you there, try to have a rest

In a couple of hours I’ll be hitting the roads for a long long day out of the office …..

Just update me if Arsene fucks off or so ….

  5. albo

Al – yeah, of course I don’t know the exact effect the booing had in this particular instance. But I think basic psychology (and all football received wisdom) will tell you that when the home fans are booing their own team or manager its unlikely to give anyone a lift other than the opposition…

(I’d also add that scattered boos at the end of a disappointing half are very different to what happened at the 70th minute in terms of the effect on team morale)

  6. Gooby

booing isn’t gonna help in any way.

goals are set by the board, the manager gets fired if he doesn’t reach those goals.

in other news we’ve had a couple of injuries that we’re suffering from

  7. goonermart

The full back excuse is getting boring too.Everyone knew that Gibbs would not stay fit, Santos was not fit when we bought him and Jenkinson should not have been back up yet. It’s no excuse

The problem is wenger does not like compertition for places.

  8. albo

Anyway, we’ve banged on WAY to much about what was probably not the key factor in us losing anyway.

Let’s look forward to tomorrow when Mr Redknapp is in court for being a dodgy, twitching cunt…

  9. David

“He was sick in the week. Arshavin is captain of the Russia national team. You have an 18-year-old kid making his first Premier League start and a player who’s captain of his country and they are querying the substitution?”

Does that not sound like a man on the defensive?

  10. Keyser

albo – Torn here, should you give people time to grieve, is Le Grove simply a place to vent frustration, a process that shouldn’t be interrupted, before you whip your cock out and give them a reality check ?!

ie. that they’ve assumed the position of Marcellus in Pulp fiction ?!

  11. Maciek

Wenger won;t be sacked even if we got relegated.

    Not with our board.

They are here only for the money.

    Greedy c**s.

The booing at half time was bad it wasnt scattered it just intensified with the sub.
But the point is we didnt boo them at the start of the game and the team was ABSOLUTELY shocking and not just defensively (JD main culprit) in the first half, so what was the excuse….Maybe when we booed them the players were embrassed and tried hard…its a reach.

Thats why i am saying the booing thing is an excuse as you can’t say it did this or that….The issue was that out biggest threat came off, and united defence felt like they could push up and fergie instantly moved valencia at rightback (literally 2mins after OX came off) as he had confidence that valencia could deal with and terrorise Arshavin

  13. HerveDeNerve

Thanks BBC, happy now ALBO? Or do you still stand that RVP could have been expressing his displeasure at anything other then OXO’s sub?

    In denial still???

  14. albo

Al – to be clear, I agree the substitution absolutely changed the game. As you say, Fergie realised that he could put Valencia to RB because AA wasn’t going to be such a threat. It was a poor decision tactically, and it was only made to look worse when AA was caught out defensively for the goal

  15. Dutchman

So what will be our team when fully fit:

I can say to you. That team will easily get a CL spot.

The point is, we are never fully fit! And wenger knows that!
We have only one player who can play for Arsenal after this line-up and that’s Gibbs (also when fully fit, what he never is). And maybe Mertesacker. In midfield we have Coquelin who can be a good replacement. And in attack, we have NO ONE!!!!! We need three players for sure. One striker, who can play at the wing. One number 10 and one pure winger. I go for Remy, Kagawa and Jesus navas. We would have a much more balanced and bigger team.
Remy is not mroe then 18m, Kagawa not more then 15m and Jesus Navas not more then 20m. I know that we have that money. And with the sales of shit players like chamakh we can easily afford them. But we have the worst coach in the world, so it won’t happen.

  16. Keyser

Lurch LeRouge – Ah good, both sides of the story, though we’re all getting screwed, was just setting the scene. What about the folically challenged to ?!

  17. Joppa Road

Look at this shit on MOTD2… why do I watch it again?

I talk about Parker, Young, Cahill, Baines, Defoe etc. What do we get a complete sack of shit.

Fck off Wenger, fck off board, fck off Emirates, you are all cunts.

  18. Joppa Road

Dutchman are you living in cuckoo land. People on here just don’t fucking get it. We are a fkin million miles away. Chelsea will improve no end by the end of the season.

    FOR THE 100th time…..

WAKE THE FUCK UP….more delluded than Spurs fans when they were poor.

  19. leon

bottom line this team does not have enough rugid players who will put in a shift for the team inuries are no excuse the fact manu have more injuries than use evon velencia played at the back do what ever it takes to win a mentality thisteam simply just dont have that kind mentality

  20. Cloggs

And ALBO, please don’t say it’s “possible”
And finally you come to an age where you wash up as far as “possible” and you wash down as far as “possible” anden you wash “possible”.

  21. albo

HerveDeNerve – I’m not sure what has changed. Sky had already said they believed it was a reaction to the substitution. I pointed out that it depended when exactly it happened. The more interesting story for Sky or the BBC is of course RvP being angry at the substitution.

All I’m saying is we don’t know exactly when that shot happens, and a difference of 30 seconds would change what he’s reacting to.

For what it’s worth, his body language makes me think it probably WAS in reaction to the sub decision, as I feel his eye line would be higher if he was reacting to the crowd.

  22. Doublegooner

    I’m with you.

Do you live in the UK ?

Fans told that cunt what they thought of him today.

Its time for the Real Arsenal fans to rise up be heard.

Greedy bastards..all of them. I’m going to bed. Hopefully i’ll dream of Arsene so i can kick him in the nuts…Then i’ll dream of madonna (80’s madonna not 50 yr old trying to act cool madonna)..then i’ll dream of TH12’s pad in NYC, then i’ll dream of the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible with voice recognition AI autostart thing and then i’ll dream of Arsene again so i can kick him in the nuts again…see ya and in case i don’t see Arsene and you do be sure to kick him in the nuts for me

AOC shows up Walcott for what he is..Utter Shite
My personal opinion is that we will improve dramatically attacking wise when we drop Walcott because as a player he does not contribute enough when he is on the ball. But the issue is Wenger will not buy another winger and on top of that his ego will not allow him to drop Walcott as he has invested 6 years in a player or has only marginally improved as a player

Er firstly, we’ve already quoted that interview on here hours ago, and secondly, I’m not sure why you’re referring it at me?

  26. Doublegooner

On paper or managed by someone who is not an autocrat or tactically nieve, that team may win a CL place.

But we have Wenger and now its too late.

  28. Joppa Road

Yeah, I live 10 miles or so away.

Sick of it all. This club resembles nothing of the club I grew up supporting and not in a good way.

I cannot believe how tame Wenger has become and how Arsenal have let their standards drop so far. It’s a fkin disgrace.

I want him gone by the end of the season. I want Mourinho in and I want Arsenal back challenging. Wenger is past it.

  29. HerveDeNerve

    “It PROBABLY???? was”

ALBO, you sound like the sort of bloke that if you came home early and caught your misses shagging the next door neighbour, your first thought would be that you was in the wrong fucking house! Give it up will you!

Not “probably” Albo, but instead you should be saying, “definitely”

  30. Joppa Road

I’ve defended Ramsey, Walcott, Arteta, Szchzney and banged on about getting Ox in the team. I feel Walcott embarrassed me for having faith in him today and had me cringing at myself.

I have not confidence in any defender other than Sagna and Kos. Verm hasn’t proved it to me but everyone tells me how great he is – I just can’t see it, same as I can’t with Santos, Gibbs, Mert, Djourou.

It’s a sad state of affairs.

  31. Dutchman

Joppa Road, That team can easily get that CL spot. But that team will never play because of injuries. The point is, who do we have now without Gervinho at the wing??? Walcott is shit, arshavin is shit, benayoun is shit, rosicky is shit. Maybe we have to play Miyaichi?? He can’t do anything more wrong then walcott. We really need to buy another winger. Unbelievable that this french bastard isn’t seeing it. Joppa Road, we can improve also! Because we have loads of money too! But we have a stubborn pric as manager that’s the only difference between us and the top four at the moment. We could have had parker for 6m, VDV for 8m or modric for 12m.
Wenger is just such a stubborn prick. If he goes in the summer, we will improve too. And i don’t care if RvP goes with him. It can’t go shitter then this. So thenit will be a new start. With the lies of Koscielny, Vermaelen, Santos and Sagna, our defence is perfect.
And with Wilshere, Arteta and AOC we would have a good creative force. With the right buys, we could be back in business, but then again we need another manager. The money is there!

  32. Swedish Gun

    you still at it?….geez

in one of the biggest games of the year, we just clawed one back and felt we could snatch a win and wenger subs our best performer you think frustrated fans could and should bite their tounge and sit on their hands. impossible.
only one kind of person could do that. someone totally bereft of emotions. you sound like one btw…….a fekking psycopath

    no offense albo

  33. Swedish Gun

and going through the comments, did you say u saw van persie turn his head looking around the ground and go “nooooo”?

  34. Cloggs

Fans told that cunt what they thought of him today.

Its time for the Real Arsenal fans to rise up be heard.

whehehe, I booed the gallic twat 4 years ago at the last game of the season, took all the flak from around area 6, couldn’t care less for these bunch of pathetic wenger devotees since I knew what was coming up for the next years. Clock-end nowadays is my fav section nowadays, good mixture of die hard gooners who still are connected to reality and can’t be arsed.

  35. Joppa Road

Do one thing Arsenal. Get Mourinho at the end of the season before City do. Man U will win the league, Mancini will be sacked and who do you think will be their No.1 target?

Mourinho now has Madrid playing great winning/attacking football. Put it like this they are much more pleasing on the eye than Arsenal.

He is our only hope but it’s going to take a miracle with the current board we have. I fkin hate those cunts.

  36. Doublegooner

Dont know if you go to the gmes, but we have to get heard & get this autocrat out the club.

It needs fans to start the ball rolling outside the ground, then others will join up.

When we get done by the spuds that’ll be the last straw.

  37. HerveDeNerve

Spurs paid £16.5 million for Modric from Zagreb. And what did Wenger say about it at the time “He’s too small to play in the premiership” Bitter comment or what??

  38. Doublegooner

    Joppa & Cloggs:

The more of us come together it can make a difference. It did back in the 80’s with Neil.

Wenger has become too big for his boots. Kronke is a cunt, but money talks & when the big club level box spenders dont renew added to the fcat we have no CL money he’ll be cakking his Yank Pants.

stay in touch I have a few of the other boys on here who contacted me a few months ago.

  39. Joppa Road

DoubleGooner, I think a couple more bad results say at home to Villa in the cup and then away at Bolton and the writing will be on the wall.

Wenger is so arrogant it’s untrue.

“He was sick in the week. Arshavin is captain of the Russia national team. You have an 18-year-old kid making his first Premier League start and a player who’s captain of his country and they are querying the substitution?”

Yes we are querying why the fck AA is still here. I cant stand the man (Wenger).

  40. HerveDeNerve

Was just thinking the same. Wenger will be shitting himself at that home game we’ve got against Spurs, lose that and he won’t be able to get home after the game me thinks!!!

  41. OPG

Wenger threw Theo in the deep end with a ton of hype. In the summer Wenger knew Gervinho could be going to ACN and brought in Benayoun cause it was too late to bring in more quality and persisted with the same inconsistent wide options bar Nasri. Also lost Cesc and his world class vision in the middle that means over relying on some players yet I think there could be better options in there instead of hoping Diaby can have a consistent run to cover adequately.
Even then he’s been forced to bring back a club legend to patch things up.

  42. Doublegooner

I’ll be at both the next 2 games.

I’ll more than likely have banners ceratinly prpeared for the Bolton game.

I am in the wholesale sign business. Anyone who wants printing I’ve always offered banners at cost.

  43. Cloggs

I’am already in contact with some fellas on the onlinegooner’s forum. I expect you’ll be familiar with the “wenger out banner” thread over there and all the stuff going on.there and with the black scarf march last season, (I was there)
Anyway, can’t make every home game since I reside on the continent but when there’s something going on you reckon I’ll be there. 😉

  44. goonermart

First 10 games of the season = 16 points
Last 10 games this season = 14 points

Does anyone really believe we are going in the right direction?

  45. Rohan

Mourinho’s under massive pressure from Madrid fans and the management to play attacking football and compete with Barcelona.

He also has a forward line worth 300 million quid.

Given a choice, he’d play like how he did with Inter and Chelsea.
The Spanish league from top 4 bottom are dreadful defensively as well. Great games to watch because it’s open and the lower teams try and play football and get raped. No one plays with 10 men behind the ball there.

  46. goonermart

Probably wenger that started it Rohan. Total bullshit.

Cloggs, i think wenger is an awlful human. Absolutely detest him

  47. zeus

Switching gears slightly, what does Mourinho have against Nuri Sahin? He never gets a game. I know he had a long injury layoff, but he was over that I thought.

If Wenger is serious about moving Wilshere into an advanced AM position, we could do with a player like him, someone who operates from deep in midfield. Songinho as the deep laying playmaker is maddening at times.

  48. goonerboy

We lost a game we were always going to lose. We were never going to to do ManU with no fullbacks.
Nevertheless it all only served to remind us that Arsene Wenger has gone way past his sell by date and the club’s transfer policy is suicidal.
The only people who continue to support Arsene Wenger in his current role either know very little about football, like our owner, care more about spending nothing than producing a competitive team like our woeful Board and the lemming like AKB- who will blindly follow Wenger over the cliff, out of champions league contention towards the championship..

  49. Honest Bill

The saddest thing is, that United were absolute rubbish, and we still were outclassed.

We need to spend on some more quality or we will not recover.

  50. BillikenGooner

8 losses already… RvP going to leave….. and people call this rebuilding, its a decay at the roots (I recently had a root canal.. so the dental comparison is there). The Board doesnt even care about profits, they dont want losses. Which means we sink lower and lower. No CL money doesnt mean the club loses money.. it means they use their plan to sell what they can for gain and sink us lower.

  51. on-the-edge

I wish i never was an Arsenal fan. Cant remember what made me an Arsenal fan 8 years back…Wish i was a ManU/L’pool/Spurs fan. Rooting for Arsenal has only brought more pain to my life than charm. I have blamed the Arsenal management enough for all this. Its time to introspect. Over.

  52. reggie57

Its tradition to be a gooner passed down through the generation’s father to son etc …nothing to do with being a glory hunter like the manc’s and chav’s

arsenal to i die! like my old man, brother, and the family member’s before that!!!!!!

ooh to be ooh to be a gooner!!

  53. Moray

I’m not sure what the issue is here about booing Arshavin. He is well paid to walk about the pitch without a care in the world. He hasn’t pulled his finger out for years now, and obviously couldn’t care less. If that’s his attitude then he should leave. If not, then prepare to be sold.

By the way, we still have Bendtner, Eboue and Denilson to come back at the end of the season, right? We can;t sell them because of their ridiculous wages.

  54. Honest Bill

We’ll all be enjoying being Gooners while we are watching 1st division football.. You might think that a bit of an exaggeration, but it could happen. All they are doing is selling of all our assets and losing is just as infectious winning. Once it becomes a habit, you’re fucked. it is becoming a habit for Arsenal now.

We turn up to games knowing we’ll lose, just like all the other relegation fodder.

A couple more years, and that’s where the Arsenal will be. Forever one of those teams who used to be good

  55. Honest Bill

Agreed. If Arshavin doesn’t wanna get booed, he should play better.

He just doesn’t look like he cares, can’t keep himself fit, and constantly wastes possession.. What does he expect? Adulation?

Having scored 4 goalls in a game one time, does not mean you shouldn’t be accountable for playing poorly.

maybe he needs to get one of those mysterious injuries like Almunia, and more recently, Djourou have been affected by

  56. Thomas, it's up for grabs now..

    Well said reggie57….. Well said…

On-the-edge.. Supporting Arsenal is not a choice. It’s a way of life!

I understand how you are feeling now but I suggest you get on YouTube or get out your old DVD’s and watch some of the glory moments from our history. Reinforce the love and come back charged up!

We’re in a period of transition (transition = bad management!) and the immediate future looks bleak but the club is bigger than Wenger and silent Stan.

The club is strong financially and any future smart manager will have resources to make us great once again. Whenever that happens……

I’ve seen a lot of shit years.. but some great ones too.. Both during and pre-Wenger. We will have them back again. I just can’t tell you when that will be!!

Write off this season and you’ll be more at peace withh yourself. That doesn’t mean we still don’t demand change, excellence and the best that our resources can give us.

    Till I die also….

  57. goonermart

    To true reggie57

My first game was vs villa with my brother, dad and grandad in the clock end back in the 1980’s. Now my children are gooners. My whole family are gooners. I hate what wenger is doing to us.

    Wenger Out

  58. Evan

    Good Morning Gooners

Skysports just showed how Americans broadcasted yesterdays game, Arsenal’s debut on FOX, they had Pearce Morgan as commentator, unfortunately didn’t show his reaction or analysis, he is anti Wenger he found time to comment on twatter.

Glad to see we put in a performance for the american public “meh”

  59. goonermart

“I can understand that the fans are upset about the substitution, especially when it doesn’t work,” said Wenger. “But that means, first, I made the right decision at the start of the game.

“Oxlade-Chamberlain had started to fatigue, started to stretch his calf, and was not used to the intensity. He was sick during the week. Arshavin is captain of the Russia national team. I have to justify [substituting] a guy of 18 who’s playing his second or third game? Let’s be serious. I have to stand up for the substitutions I made. I’ve been 30 years in this job and have made 50,000 substitutions and I have to justify every time I make a decision? I do not have to explain to you every single decision I make.”

Tells you everything you need to know about the guy really.

  60. Evan

INTERESTING DAY: Expect the Arsene defense to kick in throughout the day. No doubt either the club or RVP will clarify the captains reaction as im sure the media will be digging.

I’d love it if RVP came out and started to be the voice of what many are saying.

  61. Yippee Kai Yay

Evan, it is ‘piers morgan’ (or piers moron for private eye readers) and he is an embarrassment of a human being, let alone a gooner.

He was, for once however, right for telling AKB’s to open their eyes.

I would suggest Le-grove ‘disciples’ flood other forums and spread the good word of change.

Before the rot sets in, and becomes cancerous.

Send them to this blog if they wan’t balanced views rather than one-game knee jerk, as a lot of what has been said here is only repeating the last 4 years.

And Fox are just another News Corp vehicle for propoganda.

  62. Alone Plus Easy Target

The situation we have here is very clear. As clear as an azure sky of deepest summer. His arrogance has bring the club in decline since the last 5 years. That statement of his regarding the substitution says it all. The only way we can stop this from being worse is sack him/let him retire now. Though some problems still persist like those parasites of Board that we have and that spineless owner who only care about the money.

  63. Evan

Cheers Yippee: I blaming the lack of coffee for Pierce and not Piers 🙂

If Fox/Arsenal have there way you will struggle to see Arsenal streamed online, its a flippin mission to see UFC videos.

  64. Evan

Nice one Goonermart thanks, we could do with someone like Dana White, he’d spend cash and wouldn’t put up with bullshit

  65. Xagu

Claus Lundekvam former dopefiend, Southampton skipper, and Arsenal fan called Oxlade Chamberlain and asked if he had been sick this week after hearing Wengers substitution excuse in the post match interview.

THE OX then went on to deny, feeling a cramp coming on, or asking to be substituted.

For those that don’t believe, full transcripts of the conversation can be found in Norwegian on a leading Norwegian News site – Link below, figure out Google translate yourself;-)

just gotta to say once again that “KOZZER” was once again the dogs nuts-hope the no marks who were busy slagging him off in the past are eating a very large slice of humble pie & choking on it in particular the DICKhead who signed himself in as “koscielney is shit”can you f**ng adam & eve it!however,i digress…taxi for wenger AND the board.enough is enough…

  67. Big Dave

Would be nice of these days when ever that will be that we actually give Man u a game instead of gifting them 6 point every yr
