What a treat eh? Four posts in 2 days! A big thanks to Brendan for all the hard work he put into his finance piece, it was very interesting. I don’t think there are many fans who share quite the same interest in the money side of football as we do!
In the news, Alex Song, UN World Peace keeper and defensive midfield dynamo has reiterated the importance of having Jack in the squad.
“Jack is a very good player and we need everyone. When we have everyone fit we are more strong and confident. We need every player because we have a lot of games. We don’t just think about if Jack is coming, everyone has their job to do in the team. That is why it is important Jack will come back soon.”
I’m excited as well, his return, penned for late January, will give us super options. He has a creative spark and most importantly, he’ll be rested. No March ‘red zone’ for Jack this season. That could be vital for the run in and for his health coming away for the Euro’s.
We’re constantly talking about Robin and his fitness, one player who we’re forgetting is Arteta. He’s given our other players a tremendous platform to perform. He’s normally as breakable as Robin yet somehow he’s managed to become a permanent fixture in our midfield. He’ll need a rest at some point. I am impressed with him, he’s brought some much-needed bite to our midfield.
He believes Robin is almost as important as Jesus…
“For me, it is just such a natural talent. Sometimes he looks as if he does not try, but beats players and scores an unbelievable goal. Robin is making the difference and hopefully he can continue to do that and people can talk about him all the time .”
How can you disagree? Word has it we’re scheduling in a number of mini breaks to keep him in peak health this year. If I was Wenger, I think I’d be scheduling in a top striker in January, at least there would be a back up plan should the worst happen. Di Natale from Udinese might be old but the man is a wizard as a beast of a finisher, he’d be a great buy and a great character for the squad, I’m sure he wouldn’t cost a fortune either.
Did you know 30.9% of goals in premiership have been scored by left footers? Source: Guardian
In other transfer news, Lille are ready to do business for Eden Hazard but refuse to sell to Paris St Germain. They also refuse to sell for anything less than £43million which is a bit like me refusing to sell my Renault Megane on Autotrader for anything less than £82,000. He’s a top talent and in my mind, if he takes the right attitude to his next club, he could be one of the best players on the planet. I’d love for us to be in for him, but if Gotze is the main target, I’d struggle to see where we’d shake to loose change for the Belgian wideman?
We’ve also been linked to Malaga striker Salomon Rondon. Looking around the web, I can’t really see why we’d be interested in the Venezuelan international. He scored a good goal below. That’s all I’ve got. If he’s that good, why would one of the richest clubs in Spain sell him to us?
Tomorrow we’re lining up against Fulham. It should be a relatively straight forward 3 points, however it has to be noted that they’re quite a unit and they have players who on their day can cause serious problems.
It’ll be interesting to see if Wenger rotates for tomorrow, possibly giving a run out to Benayoun, a player who has been patiently waiting for someone in midfield to give him a way in. Who knows, it might be a game for Arshavin to ignite his season?
The defence seems pretty settled, again, a clean sheet would be lovely, getting into that habit will ultimately decide where we finish this year. Looking around the ‘since September’ records, hardly anyone is defending well. Clean sheets are at a Premiership premium.
Still I think we have the makings of a great back 4. Sagna is yet to return, when everyone is fit, we have great options.
Right, that’s me done for the week. It’s joke Friday, football is well and truly back, so over to you in the comments!
