Some exclusive insight into what’s going on | Cheerio Cesc… Cheerio Samir

by & filed under Uncategorized.

We have much to race through this morning. I had a good convo about the club with a few people close to the action yesterday and without getting anything majorly exclusive, I might have some little insights that’ll help ease you into Monday morning with a smile.

Last night saw the departure of rotten egg that’s been stinking out our summer. Cesc leaves (my tribute here) for a fee closer to £40mill than the originally mooted £29mill, in a humorous twist, some of the fee went to Barca as a sell on! Don’t believe the inevitable Barca stories that they picked him up for £16.50 and an pint of orange juice. Samir will hopefully move on this week, it’d be nice to get a part ex deal going, though I doubt that will happen.

So we head into the Udinese game on Tuesday a touch worried. The fans aren’t too interested either with the match going on general sale. The club are as nervous as we are about the game and the team has apparently never been flatter going into a season. Wenger is looking ill for a reason, he’s stressed out of his mind. Losing his two best players was a shock to the system. I think he believed in his waning miracle persuasion powers this summer. The ones that kept Paddy and Henry with us for so long. Sadly, they failed him.

However, this isn’t the time to sulk. Tickets for major September games have gone out to red membership, this was previously unheard of. Box tickets are being broken out into £6000 individual seats because they didn’t sell them all. The club exchange is packed with tickets from fans who are picking and choosing their games.

Ivan will be communicating this to Wenger. In my opinion, if Wenger chooses to roll with this squad without bolstering and it goes down the toilet, he won’t last till Christmas. Chants like the one the away fans have been singing will become contagious, and as Gazidis said, Wenger is accountable to the fans.

(Just a thought, but if he is intent on sticking with project youth against the wishes of everyone, why not stick a performance related break in his contract? If you fall outside the top 6, you can leave next summer without us having to pay out £21mill in fees. See how much faith he has then!)

Arsenal are apparently renegotiating deals with Nike now, I also believe we’re in negotiations about the shirt sponsor as well. You’ll never get a better deal with those two if your team can’t draw a home crowd.

Basically, Wenger needs to show some intent. He’ll bring in the best part of £60mill for Nasri and Cesc, he has £7mill for Clichy, he’ll have £4mill for Eboue and £10mill for Bendtner. Minus the fee for AOC which I was told was 5-6mill with add ons that if triggered would mean we had a player and a half our hands, Jenkinson £1.5mill and £12mill Gervinho…  That gives us £100mill (factoring the £40mill we already had) to play with. Substantial even for an Oligarch.

That cash serves no purpose sitting in the bank. Unless of course Arsenal plan on giving dividends (Geoff would be pleased)?

If Arsene shows intent, the fans will get off his back, the players will get an injection of confidence and there will be a bit of buzz about the ground. Kenny hasn’t bought world-class players in, but he’s bought back the belief to Liverpool. That’s after flogging Torres.

We can do the same. If he brings in Jadson and Mata, we’ve bought two players who can sit in the hole behind Robin. Not sure how good the Brazilian is but he’s got a Brazil cap and Eastern Europe isn’t the worst league. Rumour has it we’ll take the Cahill transfer as close to the line as possible while our defence is relatively stable. We could pick up him for £12mill and that would give us a good back 4. The feeling still is that Kozzer is a good player and I’m on that thought train. I’ve also been told Squillaci isn’t the sort to hang around if he’s surplus, he’d rather play football so don’t be surprised to see him slip out the back door to PSG (or someone like that) if we sign a centre back. Almunia should follow suit.

Next in we’ll need a top quality striker in and I’m talking top quality. Benzema is still at Madrid but so was an insistent RvDV last year. If they sign Llorente or someone expensive like that, we could make a move that would get the whole club going!

Gervinho and Chamakh aren’t sharp enough to fill in for Robin at the moment which is a worry for Tuesday. I think Wenger is settling for Alex Song, Frimpong and Diaby in that holding role, bad luck there. The other bit of good news is that Ryo is supposedly impressing everyone in training, when he’s let loose, he’ll cause some damage. That’s real pace we have off the bench and generally speaking, playing wide is one position you can get away with little experience.

So there you have it. Implement those changes, most or which look to be in the pipeline or under consideration and you’d have to say, we’d be contenders. We’re clearing almost 600k off the weekly wage bill and redistributing it to players who will make a difference to the team, the commercials and the managers longevity.

What about another positive? How about key learnings from the weekend? Chelsea looked ok but lacked any punch. United looked awful, Rio is out for 6 weeks with a hammy, at his age that could easily be 8 to 10. Vidic is injured as is Rafael. As for the keeper? Well jeez, I heard he weighed 9.5 stone, and judging how he was bullied by slight players like Shane Long that numbers wouldn’t surprise me. He let a soft goal in and he’s poor at commanding his area. Compare him to our monster and the difference is clear! Liverpool played a lot better than I’ve seen in a while but they still lack overall squad quality and Carragher is an issue they haven’t solved.

The league is there or the taking again, some smart moves and a bit of luck and we could be contending. Inaction and belief in the squad is not an option. Internal recruitment cannot be permitted, if we continue down the path we are it could end in a disastrous way and in my opinion, no vision as pure and naive as Wenger’s deserves that treatment.

End it on a high Arsene, then we’ll sell the script rights to Hollywood and roll out a film called Mental Strength… Though it has to be said, I can’t promise I’ll see it (get the reference? No? Ok… ignore that joke and move on).

Have a great day Grover’s match preview tomorrow!

Oh, and no creeping up Cesc’s back passage on Twitter, or his little sister. Man up and unfollow, he’s dead to us now.

Like it or not Cesc is guaranteed to end up with a medal in his first year with Barca, something his waited for 8 yrs at our beloved Arsenal :/

  2. Clark Cantilever

I think this quote on the BBC website puts it in perspective..

….”the way he and Barcelona bullied Arsenal into submission reflected poorly on both. Arsenal deserved better”..

  3. henry14

Arsenal selling Cesc for £35M is fucking disgusting – i literally cannot believe how hard they have taken it up the arse.

Everyone must be having a right old laugh.

You watch Spur’s get more for Modric not even half the fucking player.

    Makes me sick.

  4. Goonerfied85

    gambon,

I agree, we shoulld have a ready made tea with a few exciting youngsters coming through the ranks not a complete youth set up pretty much in the first team.

  5. henry14

According to the Barcelona website, Fabregas’ medicals have proven him to be in perfect condition. The club’s first-team doctor, Ricard Pruna, said: “All the tests taken have been satisfactory.” Pruna added that Fábregas “can be integrated into training without any problem.”

    Hilarious!!!!!

  6. Rhyle

My question to Wenger at today’s press conference – in which position does he feel that Arsenal have STRENGTHENED through the transfer market over the last 3 years?

I can only think of CB in Vermaelen and that’s it! the rest were either already here or have been brought in to replace players who were better than them!

  7. michael

more worryingly we could lose on tues, heard reports udinese are going to be right up for the match and with a flat display from us on sat against a team no where near top 4 and no rvp ,jack ,nasri and wenger in the stands we could be looking at having to get a win away

  8. nuudles

So Cesc’s hammy problem magically disappears as soon as he can play for Barca, I strongly doubt his season will be as injury plagued as it was last season. A lot of being injured is in the mind. If you are still fine to be playing but you are not 100% and you dont really want to play for the club then one can easily blame the injury and say something is not feeling right…

Cesc hardly ever made comments like Jack made before the Newcastle game saying how gutted he is he cannot be playing.

  9. timao

I write to Arsenal at the start of every season asking them to change the cringeworthy Elvis anthem that kicks off home games.

    It is really affecting my enjoyment of supporting Arsenal in a negative way. If you agree please send a message to;

    marketing@arsenal.co.uk saying:

Please replace “The Wonder Of You” with a more upbeat number. Almost ANYTHING will do.

Or if you have a better idea for getting it done, I will support it.

  10. WTL Gazidis £1.7m Per Annum - Cause Hes Worth It!

    Sabeel –

    Thanks mate.

Has anyone else noticed the misdirection that Arsene keeps giving the press:

The fans should love the players.

The fans should be proud of the club.

Its as if he is trying to convince everyone that the booing and negativity is aimed at the players when its clearly CLEARLY aimed at that cunt.

  11. nuudles

Wonder what our lineup for tomorrow will be:

    manager in the stands

    chezzer
    sagna-kozzer-tommy-gibbs
    song-aaron
    rosicky
    gerv-chamakh-arsh

I doubt that is enough firepower up front to be a real threat. Yes Arsh is fantastic when he is on fire and Gerv looks to be a threat but he will still take time to gel with the rest of the team.

    I would rather we play:
    chezzer
    sagna-kozzer-tommy-gibbs
    song-rosicky/lansbury
    aaron
    theo-gervinho-arsh

Would have been much better if we could use Bendy tomorrow, hate his massive ego but he looks to be in decent form and much much more dangerous than Chamakh.

  12. Goonerfied85

    Wenger contradicts himself.

He says he wants to keep Nasri but then says its hard to get the best from uncommitted players.

So why not sel him them Mr Wenger you f***ing twat.

  13. nuudles

    The press conf talking points:

** Rosicky faces fitness test on groin injury
(midfield crisis? will we play lansbury or give Arsh a run in the midfield?)

** Wenger – Club will go on without Fabregas
(do we have a choice? bring in quality to replace him)

** Wenger – I want to keep Samir Nasri
(yes you wanted to keep Cesc too, only keep Nasri if he extends)

** Boss concerned that Song faces suspension
(how difficult is it to let your players keep their cool?)

** ‘Difficult to get best from uncommitted players’
(duh, then sell them/fire them up so that they are committed)

** Wenger – It was hard for Cesc to resist Barca
(you made it that way by forcing him to lead “uncommitted players”)

** Wenger – The fans can be proud of their club
(why? dont make vague statements Arsene, back it up with valid justification)

** Boss plays down Jadson, Tevez speculation
(glad on both counts, Tevez would just want to leave in 6 months time, England is not the place for him. For Jadson we should rather be in for players like Goetze, Eriksen, Hamsik, Mata, etc)

** Wenger – Udinese have great football players
(this better not be the start of an excuse…)

  14. ZARgooner

Daily Mail quotes “Tottenham and Manchester City watched Gary Cahill at QPR on Saturday.”

    FUCK…

This man is the answer…. People say what has he done…. What did Ferdinand “do” before going to united for 30mil…. Gary Cahill is major major class

  15. wardo

    A&N @ 11:39

    No he wont mate !!

    He never does……

Like the question put to him bout the fans being p’d off and that we (the fans) want signings.

Wenger respond, we can not afford £50mil signings.

Why do the press not say to him that there is no need to go to extremes as the fans want him to make signings not neccessary £50mil ones.

He’ll get out of this press conference easily imo…..

  16. Lee

SSN are fucking shocking, you would think it’s FC barscum TV, the way they are going on you can see them rubbing they re hand’s together ready with they’re dagger’s to stick the knife in !! and as for the cash from anyone that’s sold, old senile cunt wont spend a penny and you all know it, we are just waiting game for the confirmation

  17. Alan109

Pedro, it’s not quite your figures I was labelling delusional but your comments about how selling these players is something of a positive because it clears our wage bill. Why this club and it’s supporters continually bang on about profit making I don’t know. It’s like we are all mini-Arsene Wengers. Yes a club is supposed to be financial stable, I get that but give me Cesc Fabregas at 130K a week anyday over Jadson at 70K a week. The club can afford it those wages. The reason why Cesc left Arsenal for Barca now was not purely motivated by his desire to go home. He was also keen to start winning things. Nasri is the same. Both top players who we have lost and the replacements being qouted are not of the same standard. Mata is a very good player but will he fill Cesc’s boots? Not a chance.

Mouriho’s comments about Benzema are old. Football evolves. With the great respect, you can’t qoute stuff 12 months ago in a fast moving sport and claim it as a source for this transfer window. It was when Benzema was lazy and fat. He is now leaner and desperate to stay at Real Madrid. Mourinho now rates very highly and he was fantastic last night.

Also IMO a win over West Brom (whatever the means) and a draw over Stoke (at Stoke) is a better result than a draw against Newcastle. You could argue a point is a point but if we got the stoke game out the way with a point, we’d be delighted if we were honest especially if we managed to cope with them like Chelsea did.

  18. Smudger

Am surprised no one has mentioned getting Sneijder?

Just what we need I reckon.

That is if we ‘are’ a big club?

  19. kapslock

Fuck me man. I’m getting depressed watching this press conference. I hope Barca rot in fucking hell. Bitter? Yes.

  20. timao

If Lukaku is still available, just spend all whatever it takes to get him. £25m, whatever. With the remaining money get Cahill, Dann, Tevez.

Sign Joey Barton on a free, that has to be obvious. Even if we only play him against Stoke and Wolves he’ll be worth it. He may be a complete a-hole but as was pointed out in the post; who do we have to ruffle the opposition’s feathers? Certainly not Walcott – ye gods; he seems to be ‘sh*t scared’ of his own shadow. It’s embarrassing.

Bendtner has great skills but he also needs to man up. I think back to the Adebayor headbutt incident and try to imagine what would have happened if Ade had tried that on Andy Carrol, Duncan Ferguson or Mark Hately. Where was Bendtner on Saturday anyway?

Surely he should either have been playing or we should have sold him long ago. Just what is going on???

  21. nuudles

ZARgooner, Thiago said during/before the summer if Cesc joins then he is off. Possibly Pep spoke to him and said him, Cesc & Iniesta will be fighting it out for 2 spots in the near future when Xavi retires/is sold once he is considered too old. Also think Pep starting Thiago in a big match like the super cup is a signal of trust in Thiago that Thiago will appreciate (he said he was surprised to start).

If we wanted Thiago we would have negotiated a swap + cash for Cesc.

  22. Pedro

Alan, I don’t know if you’ve read this blog before… but we’ve always been against the celebrated balance sheet being our primary objective.

Cesc is gone… you have to deal with that.

The positive is that we’ve shifted and unhappy player, we’ve got enough money to buy some good players in and change our system.

We need a fresh start… we should make that cash work.

  23. henry14

It was obvious from a few weeks ago that Wenger was waiting to see if we qualified for the Champions League before making any signings.

    It’s laughable.

  24. michael

is this what it feels like to be a mid table club and as for cesc and nasri they’re not bergkamp

    TRUE LEGEND

  25. nuudles

timao, some questionable comments you make…

No way will we go for Tevez, he is on £200k+ pw, he wants to go home/Spain/Italy, so we are effectively buying another unsettled/unhappy player. Yes he is good but we dont need that plus he would be crazy expensive, £40m+.

Dann is below average (he plays in a relegated team for a reason) + we only need 1 more CB (Cahill). Tommy and Kozzer are quality, 1 more and we are golden, Djourou is decent backup if he is in form, Miquel+Bartley look promising for the future.

    No thanks to cheater/hypocrite Barton.

I think Bendtner is not played because we dont want him to get injured as it would ruin any chances of selling him. I agree that he is a much better player than Chamakh and I wished we could sell Chamakh and keep Bendy but that is Bendy wants to leave: he would rather play than sit on the bench. We are trying to sell him but his wage demands + our transfer demands are likely holding back the deal.

Agree that I would like Lukaku, the risk is that he is unproven in anything but their league but he has a lot of promise. His heart is set on Chelsea though.

  26. Colonel Mustard

You would have to say now the board and Wegner will be working hard to get players in. I believe we will see a lot of business from now to window closing.

  27. nuudles

oh add to that Bendy’s ego stinks, he is better than what we give him credit for but not even half as good as he gives himself credit for…

  28. Alan109

I am glad you guys feel the same about the balance sheet. Cesc has gone and I am not bothered about losing a player as that happens in football but you have to question why it happened and what will come of it.

The club has been happy to play on the whole ‘he just wanted to go home’ thing but Cesc let slip that he wants to win trophies last season (banned words at our club it seems) and I think he’d (a world class player) would still be here if we showed ambition and won something. The facts are that we have being selling good players nearly every summer and replacing them with lesser quality so I don’t buy into the optimism shown today.

I personally believe we are regressing from title challengers to top 4 contenders. We are becoming more Tottenham Hotspur than Manchester United. I don’t mind fighting for fourth every year if we had a 36k stadium and barely any CL history to rely on but Arsenal have the means to do better but lack the ambition. At board room level something is very wrong at the club as they appear very risk adverse.

  29. Colonel Mustard

michael – you would have to say logically this match had a bearing on Newcastle match. Do worry mate we will be fine. F**k it lads im not spending a season in misery. Whats the point. Just support. We might be suprised.

  30. nuudles

Colonel, we dont need a lot of business. We need to sell Eboue & Bendy (and Nasri + Almunia) and get in 2-3 real quality players. Granted for Arsenal that is a lot of business…

  31. Moray

I don’t think we’re going to sign anyone. I’ve seen this too often. And it’s too late anyway, with the speed our transfers happen.

And what player in his right mind would want to join a team of chokers who watched their two best players leave without reaction?

What a terrible time to be renegotiating sponsorship deals, although to be honest it’s better than next year when we are contesting the Europa league.

And Pedro, I like the positivity but the salaries? Don’t imagine we haven’t sponsored the moves of Eboue, Denilson etc. We’re probably still footing 50% of their ridiculous salaries. Those problems will still be with us next year and the one after. And Squillachi won’t go – he just signed a new contract, probably for much more money!

  32. Miyaichi Noodle Soup

I bought Jadson to Naples on FM11 for £5mill, including a hefty sell on clause.. The fans went all ecstatic and shit, and the player himself became an instant hit, scoring 12 goals in his first season, counting as many assists ^__^

I also bought G. Cahill to my Arsnl game for £6mill, and he got himself 10 goals from CB, as the team won the league in April. Apparently he is our missing link >.<

  33. Goonerfied85

    Matt,

Dont know how true it is but i’ve heard Cahill has a £17 million release clause.

Wenger will probably offer them Almunia as a straight swap though.

  34. nuudles

Matt, he has a year left on his contract. There is 2 weeks left of the transfer window. If we offer £17m I am pretty confident we would be able to bag him, can they really risk losing him on a free next summer? We may be willing/able to lose Nasri on a free next summer but Bolton is not nearly as strong as us financially.

  35. Matt

Fair point, although if Spurs and other clubs are sniffing around then that wont help our cause. Mind you, Spurs do it with every player we are linked with just to up the money Im sure!!

  36. Colonel Mustard

Nuudles. I wouldnt be in a hurry to sell Bentner. He is a good PL centre foward if played there and still developing. There is a still a lot of class in our team and agreed we without a doubt need signings. I believe we will get them. There is a lot of cash to spend. Wegner is not a idiot, stubborn but not an idiot. I think gazidis will lay it out we need to spend to improve and have the cash to spend. I am getting my mojo for football back. Im not spending the year shouting at our players. I did! but I think this team need the support even more now so for hell or high water im in.

  37. paul mc daid

This board do not know the meaning off hard work, the fact that they “hardly work” is what has got our club into this trouble,MR 1% has destroyed this club with his own self importance, his father must be turning in his grave,if Stan wants success from his investment then he has to get rid off MR 1% urgently, like today.

  38. Nick the Greek Gooner from Ealing

Any Gooners feel sick and mugged off with our former number 4 and captain kissing Cuntas badge?

  39. Thomas. It's up for grabs now!

    So Barca don’t match our 40M evaluation…

200M Euro buy out clause in Cesc’s contract with Barca..

They buy him for 30 and some loose change from the back of the sofa…

Somehow feel we’ve been taken for a mug with the fee.

  40. Colonel Mustard

Nick the Greek Gooner – he is gone mate. F**k it. You will puke up if you tune in the Catalan rubbing it in.

    “Cesc Fabregas” – foorrgetaboouuit….

  41. nuudles

Goonerfied, I speak under correction but I believe players in the PL do not have “release clauses”, I believe it is a legal requirement in some parts of continental Europe but not so in England. If a club does not have to attach a release clause to a player then all the better.

Lets say we gave Jack a professional contract as a 17 year old before he was loaned to Bolton with a £5m release clause (I mean who is going to pay £5m for our young player with no PL experience). At the start of last season Jack bursts onto the scene, and while we are drawing up a new advanced contract for him City/ManU/Chelsea come and say: £5m is nothing, lets pay it and sign Jack! So not having to have a release clause is advantageous.

Also if we buy a player from a country who has a release clause in his contract nothing stops the deal going through for less than the release clause. As far as I understand it if a club is willing to match the release clause the player’s current club has no choice but to sell the player. So if Cesc’s new release clause is 130m Euros and Inter offer Barca 90m Euros for him Barca would snap off their hands.

The £17m figure for Cahill was what Bolton was rumoured to want for Cahill if I am not mistaken.

  42. pharo9ja

“I’ ve seen many players leave and know that only the
    winners are remembered”.
    A&N that’s about the best quote I’ve read…
we should have dat on a banner just incase we have the ilks of cesc come to the emirates.
    Arsenal Bloody Arsenal!!

  43. naija soccer

Even if we didn’t get the full 40 million for fab , I m glad he’s been sold and this annoying saga is over. People act like arsenal were glad to sell him for 29 mil( speculation by the way ). The truth is arsenal fc , wenger and most fans didn’t want fab to leave but when he sees our club as his second favorite behind barcelona despite being the captain , he had to go.

For a team that’s trying to win after being trophyless for ever , having a grumbling spanish captain it is not the way to go.

My point is whether he was sold for 29 or 40 million , I m glad this back and forth saga is over. Espn , the sun , goal.com and these other websites can now focus on actually writing real news and not repeated stories. And we can focus our new team.

  44. Matt

I’m gutted seeing pictures of Cesc in a Barca shirt for real.

More gutted now than when Henry left because despite what some people think about his hamstring, I still think he has three or four great years left in him and you know he is going to go on and win shit loads. Just wish it could have been with us!

  45. tomb

Looking a Cesc in front of the Barca placque makes me feel sick such a good player going to play for those cunts. You know what is worse tho, the feeling that we wont get any note worthy replacements.
I dont blame cesc for leaving he just wants to win things and he knows it aint going to with Arsenal.

What an utter shambles this is turning out to be, how could it be left to get this bad. Is there anybody in the board who has a fucking clue.

  46. Goonerfied85

    Nuudles,

That £17 million figure is rumours just as anything else but fair point appoint the release clause it was just something i’ve heard but as I say dont know if it was true.

I cant see Cahill going for less than £17 million if other clubs show interest or start a bidding war.

  47. nuudles

Colonel, I agree with you that I would not rush into selling Bendy, but he wants to be guaranteed of plenty of first team football which we simply cannot do if RvP is fit and firing. We also cannot give him games on the wing because he is very ineffective there.

Unfortunately he is at a stage in his career where he needs to play plenty of first team games BECAUSE he a half decent player (still not nearly as good as he thinks he is) while Chamakh is content to sit on the bench and watch RvP play. We have 2 options: sell Bendy or loan him out. Maybe we could keep him and guarantee him 20 starts (to rest RvP from time to time & RvP is almost guaranteed to be injured somewhere during the season) but I think Bendy would want more than that plus can we afford to not play RvP if he is on fire?

  48. G787

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/arsenal/8701602/Cesc-Fabregas-signs-for-Barcelona-live.html
    ¨
“Sandro Rosell, the Barcelona president (who, incidentally, reckons he’s only paid 29m euros for Fabregas) has tweeted thus: “Welcome to Barcelona. We’re very happy that you have returned home.” On the subject of the fee, Jeremy Wilson’s account this morning really is pretty comprehensive:

“Barcelona were last night claiming they will only have to pay €14.5  million up front for Fabregas, with a further €14.5 million to be paid in October. It is then understood that

€1 million will be released every year until the end of his contract in 2016. Providing Fabregas wins one Champions League and two La Liga titles over the next five years, Arsenal will receive a further €6 million. This takes the overall potential fee to €40 million (£35 million).”

Even Barcelona Fans can’t believe they got him for almost nothing.
    http://www.barcelonafootballblog.com/10244/fabregas-aka-big-heaping-dose-crow/

Great piece of Business Arsene, Gazidis, PHW.
    D*ckheads.

  49. Doublegooner

Barcelona have almost treated us like an annoying puppy that wouldnt let go, but then a few little slaps we give in.

  50. pharo9ja

fuck cesc fabregas if you ask me. wenger’s tactical nous orthe lack of it will be exposed lin the following weeks. the thing to worry about though is RVP’s body language. I’m worried about him, even arshavin played like he could’nt give a toss. I see them gone next year cause I’d be shocked if they sign new contracts.
    sad times.
    Arsenal Bloody Arsenal!!

I became a fan of arsenal watching cesc’s magic……..now that he’s gone……..this has been the worst day of my life as an arsenal supporter…….hope some glory will come this season to soothe this pain

  52. Moray

so we sell Cesc for about 15m under his market rate and quibble over 2m for a keeper last year and 4 or 5 million for a decent defender this year…unbelievably bad business. Wenger certainly knows the price of everything and the value of nothing

  53. Emil

My problem is with the Arsenal fans in London.
Every press conference Wenger has is full of lies and u people just allow him to have his way all the time abt lies which he has used to bring my Arsenal, our Arsenal down.
Secondly, to the fans who go to every other game at Emirates, its a high time u people show ur frustration by boycotting matches and singing out loud ur displeasure at matches.
I bet u, these are the only ways ARSENE WENGER will listen.
“WE THE FANS HAVE TO SHOW OUR FRUSTRATIONS AND LET THEM KNOW, ENOUGH IS FUCKING ENOUGH”

  54. Andy T

I have got my head round the fact that Fabregas is buggering off.
It’s Wenger’s comment about Mata that has done my head in.
Mata is a top player and i think would be very effective for us.
There was no creativity yesterday at all

  55. WTL Gazidis £1.7m Per Annum - Cause Hes Worth It!

People are dreaming if they think that the press will now move on. The Nasri situation will rumble on and on and on until we sell him now or speculation continues throught the next 5 months as to which Manchester club he signs for, with him no doubt giving little cryptic clues everytime he is away with leblues.

After that we then have the RVP and Theo situations. The way I see this unfolding is Theo siginging a massive deal wholely disproportionate to his ability and RVP stalling any deal until we find ourselves in this exact same position this time next year.

  56. N21 Tone

.Lets put this into prospective. Is Fabregas a “great” player? If he was great, why didn’t we win anything with him? If you look at another great player like Maradonna for example, he went to Napoli a two bit club with a mid-table pedigree and in his first season they were champions. I think that’s how I would measure greatness? A good player – not a “great” player. IMO

  57. Colonel Mustard

    G787

You have to understand this was a loaded transfer. Cesc wanted to leave to only one club. Barca had us by the balls. better to take the cash. F**k it imagine him here next year. be a f***kin nightmare. moody and hugging the Catalans. F**k off. im done with him. I criticise the board for many things but not this. Cesc and Barca have behaved appallingly recently. Cesc half commited on the pitch, the sickening scenes of him being made wear a jersey. The spanish GP….

  58. nishanth

I know that the Arsenal fans will be disappointed with my exit from the club, but I’m here to face an incredible challenge, the challenge of my life.’

Is that all he has to say to the arsenal fans??

  59. Colonel Mustard

Just to add to that. This transfer saga along with the Bussaca incident will make our next encounters very bitter.

  60. WTL Gazidis £1.7m Per Annum - Cause Hes Worth It!

    N21 tone –

Napoli didnt win the league in Maradonas first year and they didnt win the league by just buying Maradona, they had to put quality players around him.

  61. pharo9ja

nuddles@ 12:50, are you suprised? we’ve all known that cesc’ injury has always been in his head(made up).

  62. Burny

No mention of the fans Cesc – cheers. Hope you pull your hamstrings grabbing your ankles at your homocoming party tonight, you cunt.

  63. G787

Col Mustard; You make some good points.

My points is Wenger refuses to pay an extra 0.5M for Schwarzer last year, 1M for Samba in Jan, 1M for Cahill or Jagielka now ?

Hypocrisy ? Do u get my point.
It was loaded but he was still under contract for 4 ears…

  64. Viveora

i thought i would be angry watching the presentation but oddly found myself smiling when i saw cesc in a barca shirt, kissing the badge. He was our captain, Wenger trapped in this club and bullshited to him how we were so close. I mean, if cesc is getting a paydrop, its not the money its home. At least now he can fufil his dream of being the next guardiola, under guardiola and be a barca great. He was never gonna be an arsenal great, that will go to wilshere.

But yes i feel sorry for fabregas, wenger supplemented this world class talent with denilson, bendtner, squillaci, sylvestre, diaby, eboue. The only world class player we have is RVP. you cant consider wilshere or SZCZ yet. Nasri is a cunt and only produced for 3 months and now he thinks he is god. well fuck him.

Good bye cesc, at least you can be free from the bullshit that is wenger

  65. Emil

My PROBLEM is mostly with my fellow Arsenal Fans in london.
Everytime Wenger has a press conference, its always and will always be full of lies, yet u people can not take him on abt his persistent lies which he has used to run down our Arsenal FC.
Secondly, the fans who go to watch every other match at Emirates. We all saw this coming, yet we sat down and let these people ruined our team. Its a high time we start boycotting matches and singing out loud our grievances at matches such as “start spending some fucking money; In Arsene we RUST” etc to let them people running Arsenal down that “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH”
For how long people, for how long people….

  66. Matt

With all this Cesc saga finally ended, it really does make me wonder why we ever went back to Barca and signed more youth players (2 I believe). Surely it’s a no win situation. Either they turn out to be shit, or they turn out to be great and all of a sudden want to go home!

Although I suppose that will generate a huge sell on fee that we can all be proud of!

  67. OPG

He did speak about the fans.. he was banned from saying anything about it, but Nasri hasn’t tweeted much at all except saying happy birthday to RVP.

  68. Arse&Nose©

    Goon from BD,

you know we will hear from him again. Give it a 6 months when we are drawn against Barca in the CL, he will wave to fans, hug our players and manager.

Then in 2 years time he will talk about returning to Arsenal because he hasn’t had the opportunities at Barca.

Cesc was raised under Henry’s leadership, expect him to act like a shallow, cowardly, media darling just like Henry was.

  69. Pierre

Cesc has fucked off, good, now let’s invest the money in Arsenal FC and buy a replacement MF and a solid CB and then the season looks promising.

And Chezny shits all over the new manure keeper who looks garbage!

    LOL

    Bitter much?

You are going to see how good Cesc could have been for us if we had given him better than what we did.

When he looks to his right he will no longer see Eboue but he will now see Messi.

He will no longer see Denilson, Song, Diaby, Cham and the rest of the dross.

Your prediction will never come to pass.

  71. Colonel Mustard

G787 – yes Schwazer….but you have to admit Schez looks dominant now. been foolish to have an old stager like Schwazer on the bench. especially for him at his age.

“My points is Wenger refuses to pay an extra 0.5M for Schwarzer last year, 1M for Samba in Jan, 1M for Cahill or Jagielka now ?”

this is speculation. really it is. with Arsenal nobody has the inside track on transfers. though i agree we need ideally Cahill.

  72. ZARgooner

Fabregas has Arsenal DNA….. Lets talk about resigning him every fucking transfer window from now on…. Barca cunts

  73. nuudles

g787, Bolton said on many occasions they have received no bids for Cahill, so why do you say we bid £1m too little for him?

Now our midfield is extremely thin for the CL qualifier. Knowing Rosicky’s injury record his medical test tomorrow will not go so well. So then we will have Song, Ramsey, Frimpong, Lansbury & potentially Arshavin as our midfield options with Nasri, Jack & Rosicky out.

    I hope we play either:
    Song-Aaron
    Arsh
    Theo-Chamakh-Gerv

    or
    Song-Lansbury
    Aaron
    Theo-Gerv-Arsh

based on our available players, or maybe
    Song-Aaron
    Arsh
    Theo-Gerv-AOC/Vela/Afobe

although I dont know about playing one of those 3 (all possibly too inexperienced in bigger competitions in my book)

  74. Goonerfied85

    Colonel Mustard,

Completely agree, we can all throw around figures on here or figures quoted in the press but as you say we really wont know with Arsenal what is going on.

  75. Thomas. It's up for grabs now!

    n21…
The manner of Fabregas’ exit may leave a bitter taste… however, that will never take from the fact that he was/is a superb player. His loss weakens the Arsenal team. Sure we won nothing recently… but have you stopped to think how much worse it could have been? 6th, 7th, 8th???

Oh how Fab drooled as he comtemplated a pass to…. Vela, Sanga hairing down the Wing, eboue, Chamakh et al…

I do agree it’s now time to move on. He’s gone and that’s it. But replacing him with equal quality is sure going to be one hard job.

Sadly, if he did not want to go to Barca so much he would have commanded that 50-60m fee from the likes of Real etc.. But not to be… I think we’ve been mugged by Barca. They knew he wanted to go and only to them, and they got him for their price not ours.

He played some great games for us. I would have expected more of a farewell message from him and am pissed off in the whole way it was conducted but I won’t let that cloud my judgement on his on-field abilities. A great player leaves us. We’ll move on!

Nasri, on the other hand, well let’s see what his new pay check will be and we can judge him against Fabregas and both their motives for leaving!

I heard what the fans were singing about me on saturday and it is really disrespectful because i’m still a arsenal player

  77. timao

making gallas captain was simply bizarre and making cesc captain was a massive error of judgment, even choosing thierry henry as captain was foolhardy.

arsene wenger must learn from these mistakes. our next captain needs to be; mature, committed, physically and mentally robust.

but then of course, we don’t have ANY players who fit that description,
ai caramba! under the circumstances, my choice would be vermaelen.

  78. Arse&Nose©

  79. Colonel Mustard

Thomas. It’s up for grabs now! – would it really make so much of a difference if we go say another €10m. Cesc backed us in a corner. I would’nt be too inclined to forget that.

  80. nuudles

What did the fans sing about Nasri on Saturday? If Nasri still wants to be an Arsenal player he should extend his contract or otherwise he clearly does not want be an Arsenal player and therefore deserves to be ridiculed.

  81. Mikeyboi

I watched barcelona press conference…. Fabregas actually spoke about the fans sayng how much he appreciates everything they have done for him and was sorry for not being able to talk for 2.5 months as Arsenal would not let him. And said there will be an interview soon where he will be able to say everything that he wanted to say to the fans.

  82. Arse&Nose©

For those who don’t know some fans at NUFC we signing Na Na Na Na he’s a greedy @@@@ greedy @@@ he’s a greedy @@@

  83. G787

Col Mustard – I still think we need an experienced keeper as back up for Chezzer. I just don’t think Fabianski is good enough.

Not sure about Cahill but I do know Arsenal was negotiating w Fulham for Schwarzer last yr and Blackburn for Samba in January.

Also we apparently made a fantastic 10M offer for Jagielka recently.

I don’t have the inside knowledge on offers, I can only go by what online info can find, I think that applies to all of us.

  84. OPG

Demanding respect lol. Wenger said it’s harder to keep a player on a 1 year contract something like that compared to Cesc who was on a longer contract..

  86. Arse&Nose©

    I tweeted him back
    “respect is earned”

he is as bad as the south london chavs who rioted last week “we want respect init, if youz dernt respekt us we wernt respect youz init”

  87. Gunner4Real

What’s the sense in insulting a players still contracted to the club. The is wide speculation he will be sold, but no one has heard that from the player.

What is wrong with Arsenal fans? We are the only ones who will boo our own player while playing for us? What good does that do, to enhance performance?

Adios Cesc. Let’s now focus on those in the shirt.

  88. Tommi Gooner

Slightly off topic. However, as much as most of us are pissed at losing Cesc to those cunts at least Eboué has gone. Did everyone notice the new squad numbers? Gervinho has got the no: 27 shirt Eboué hasn’t even got one now. Thank fuck!

  89. bade the gooner (bernard)

    arse&nose,
what an optimistic lad you eh?
    meet him in CL?
you can you guarantee us overtaking udinese? or qualify from the group stages?
and remember, the europa league is also a trophy, such as not getting relegated is……

  90. nuudles

A&N, tweet him back (Im not on twitter otherwise I would plus it is blocked here at work): “extend your contract to show you respect Arsenal””

  91. frenchie

    pedro-

the signings portion of the post: are they your wishes or a clever way of divulging some insider information?

  92. Thomas. It's up for grabs now!

@ Colonel. it would only make a difference if Wenger would spend it…

My point is simple that we are losing a great player. Some comments on here have said he was shit and what did we win with him?

That’s rubbish. He is a great player. He wanted to go last year. That was clear. We’ll be backed into corners by quite a few more players no doubt in the future. It was handled appalingly by the club and manager. We should have put a final date on this transfer of early July and not let it drag out for so long. Now we are scrambling around looking for players in less than ideal circumstances.I don’t think we can blame him for that. A bid came in weeks ago from Barca for 25 million. Tell Barca the price and give them a deadline. That was the time to nail it and finish it. I can’t blame Fabregas for signing 2 days after the season started. And I’d also be cool if the club told Barca to F Off and come back with the money and he rots in the reserves. Players have too much power.. but…

The club knew he wanted out and fucked around for weeks and what extra did they get for him? What damage has this whole saga done to the club and team?

He did well with us financially and we also made him a better player. However, to now say he is crap is bordering on the ridiculous. (not u!)

  93. OPG

We already knew Eboue was close to leaving compared to even Nasri, squad numbers last week btw. Lots of speculation and Wenger saying himself looked all the more likely as time went.

  94. G787

@Thomas. It’s up for grabs – completely agree with you. The club has 2 weeks to find a replacement, bit late isn’t it ?

  95. nuudles

Gunner4Real: he has a year left on his contract, he has been offered a new & improved contract on many occasions, rumoured to be in the £90-100k pw range which sounds reasonable given his stats, but he is purely holding out for more, leading EVERYONE to believe he is purely a mercenary and has no loyalty for the club, for the supporters who sang songs praising him.

  96. Pasman

…looks like Jenkinson will be starting tomorrow. I’m okay with that. Playing 3 matches in week at this stage of the season might be asking too much from Sagna.

(Hint: he attended the official CL press conference with Wenger.)

  97. Goon from BD

    Arse N Nose

Yep. Can’t see us getting away from Barcelona. We seem to have a weird connection. Don’t know if Cesc would want to return to Arsenal after all the shit he has put us through to go there. Its a disgrace he was our captain. He never tried to protect us from the bad mouthing Barca gave us and most probably engineered it. I can’t forget the shit mood he was in when we beat them. Hope we win if we meet them.

  98. rob green

nasri congratulating fabregas as well it taking the p*ss!! saying good luck and congratulations are two different things!!
