Mad Jens back in town… | United host us today, pay back time

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Massive game today.

Thought I’d state the obvious as many of you probably didn’t respect your bodies as I did last night. So you might have forgotten. I don’t have a hangover today. You do. Gutted is all I’ll say.

Anyway, the good news is that Robin is fit for today as is Alex Song. We head up to United to take on a club who don’t enjoy being beaten at home. They have no Nani, probably no Rio, no Jonny Evan’s (that’s bad news for us) and no Anderson. The fact they’ve got a tough tie in three days time against Marseille works very much in our favour. I could see them resting a few names just to make sure. United really don’t have the squad to be taking risks when they’re still in 3 competitions.

I guess Wayne Rooney will play and maybe that little Mexican ferret. To be honest, if we play as we know we can, it shouldn’t matter. This United side are more about grinding out results than playing people off the park. Pound for pound, even without Cesc and Chezzer, we’re the better side. We need to go out there, play with the handbrake off and pay them back for all the FA Cup heartbreak they’ve dished out to us over the years.

I want to see a big game performance from Robin, I’d love to see Arshavin give us a solid 90 minutes and I’d like to see an improved performance from Diaby. Wilshere just needs to continue to do what he does best and drive the team on. The back 4 have a big challenge learning to play with a keeper who is very much line based. I’m hoping Almunia can hold it together, he has a habit of bowing to pressure in the big games. He didn’t have the best time against United last time we played them in an important cup game. I feel a hoodoo banishing coming on…

This is how I’d line up…

Almunia

Sagna JD Kozzer Clichy

Diaby Jack Song

Arshavin Robin Nasri

I expect Rosicky will find himself getting the nod over Arshavin. I don’t know why, his passing isn’t clinical and I’m not sure he’s that good at the defensive work. He’s a bit of a nothing player, expert at looking like he’s doing something. I’d rather put someone like Arshavin in who can produce a moment of magic at any time.

Nasri needs to find his form again. He hasn’t been the form player we knew from the first half of the season for a few games. What better occasion to make a claim for player of the year than in this game?

I have a good vibe about tomorrow. The tide has to turn at some point and United’s lucky streak has to run out some day. I think we’ll turn them over, if they pick up a few injuries along the way, no tears will be shed at this keyboard.

I’m really going to be looking closely at the work ethic and motivation of the team tomorrow. We have a habit of feeling sorry for ourselves after a loss, Wenger loves to play the victim and make countless excuses. That rubs off on players which I personally thinks allows some of the boys to justify failure. We’ve been poor over the past 3 games, time to address that on the pitch.

Make it happen Arsene…

P.S. In other news, Wenger is rumoured to be bringing Jens out of retirement to cover for Almunia. Good stuff, it’s great to have a Champion in the dressing room. His attitude could be a massive bonus at this stage in the season. Jens is a warrior, how we could do with a bit of his fire tomorrow!

Enjoy the game everyone, if you need a feed for it later, I’m sure the Grover’s will point you in the right direction later!

UPDATE: I thought Song was in the squad, I missed his exclusion on Arsenal.com!

Almunia

Sagna JD Kozzer Clichy

Diaby Jack Rambo

Arshavin Robin Nasri

i would like to state that few poster here don’t have their own minds… it’s like having a trend with le grove usually sitting the tune of it & this is poor

all the abuse for almunia & denilson is way too artificial!

    few facts for this years:
chezzer, whom i rate super-highly, cost us directly the CCL. yet hes was treated so gently when if it was almunia’s or fabianski’s fault, they would have been brought to centre of town & throught with stones to death, with some arse comments.

denilson didnt play that barca game, yet ye played so shitty football that i’m not sure even he could have such a horror show. & almunia really rescued out team from a cricket score there …

don’t get me wrong, i dont like those two lads, but still they are treated unfairly by the fans, even when they have a decent display & one of the fan’s lovely boys do a shit, lots of you still abuse them & excuse the lovely boys….

this is poor attitude from us …. let’s be honest

  2. JohnnyWins

I can’t believe that any of you want bendtner, diaby or denilson in the team. What have you been watching lately?

  3. Gooner786

A4E,Im sure E12 didnt mean what he said about the Spuds winning the Champions League.Maybe he said it out of frustration because Wenger wont spend the money on the few players that we DESPERATELY NEED to become challengers again.

Maybe hes sick of wasting thousands of pounds watching the shite/mediocre players like Almunia,Denilson Rosicky etc etc.

  4. Pedro

Gooner 786, I know you are E12, I know that you’ve begged to get on 1500 times under 5 different guises since i banned you the other day, so don’t play games.

You were banned for acting like a childish prick and having a non-Arsenal fan type opinion. You want me to ban you forever, carry on with the snide remarks and I’ll make it happen.

  5. Goonerpower

Hahaha, stick up for the twat that even if “joking” should not say it on an Arsenal blog IMO. I stand by arsenal4ever, I would rather die than say/even joke about it.

Only my opinion even though it’s right 🙂

arent we all that sick about not spending and still have the likes of Denilson, Diaby, Rosicky, Bendter, Squillaci in our team? I for one had already enough since 1-2 years ago. He doesnt have that sense and ambitions anymore. Not to spend on great players instead sticking to his love kids was his biggest mistake and will hopefully his downfall.

    —————————————–

I think Rosicky and daiaby and Cesc were bad against Bsarca, but the person to blame for the loss was the Ref. Barca had dominant possession with little shots on target till the sending off.

    Confidentgoner says:

sounding like Wenger!! Yes the ref was shit but we hadnt 1 fukking shot on their goal. The first half we played with eleven players ( only jack was a man ). We cant everytime looking for excuses if the one who is in charge as manager the one at fault is. And yes barca is probably the best team ever but no fukking shot on their goal says it all.

  9. Dial Square

That’s sly Pedro. Have you had your season ticket renewal yet ? Not sure if we are renewing all of ours.

  10. Pedro

Dial, not sure we’re going to this year… we might take advantage of a season ticket loan through the ticket exchange.

If they put prices up, I’m defo sure we won’t renew… that’ll be a fucking liberty.

they will outplay any team in the first half, they play with so much energy. In the 2nd half, we would have beaten them or drawn. If you have played this game, its tough enough at the highest level, but it is too tough when you add the ref to the mix.

    Q. Before the sending off what was Barca’s shot on target?
    A. perhaps 2 max

The possession means fuck all to me. If Bendtner had taken his chance we will be singing a different tune now.

  12. G STAR

Cesc Fabregas’ father claims his son was so devastated by Arsenal’s UEFA Champions League exit at the hands of Barcelona that he ‘wanted to shoot himself’.

Arsene Wenger’s side were undone by the Catalans for the second successive season in the competition despite taking a 2-1 lead into the second leg at Camp Nou on Tuesday.

The Gunners skipper’s careless backheel allowed Lionel Messi to make the breakthrough and Barca went on to cruise to a comfortable 3-1 win, 4-3 on aggregate and reach the quarter-finals.

Although Fabregas issued an apology to his team-mates, his dad Francesc revealed the midfielder was not fit enough to face his boyhood heroes after suffering a recurrence of his hamstring problem.

    Powerless
He told The Sun: “I talked to Cesc after the game and he told me he felt so powerless that he just wanted to shoot himself.

“He was looking forward to this match with much enthusiasm. It was such a special game for him because it was against Barcelona in the Nou Camp.

“But it turned out to be one of the worst days of his life.

“His display was badly affected by his physical condition.

“From the first moment he realised he shouldn’t be playing.

“After 10 minutes he was feeling his leg. He wanted to contribute but was left behind while Barcelona had a great game.”

  13. arsenal4ever

exactly G star. This was probably the worst back heel in history. Anyway I didnt say possesion count. They way we attacked ( not ) was a joke. For this all Wenger is responsible cause he selects the team. He does make talents but wont bring us trophies, fact. Standing still so should move on. Bayern are interested so they should take him.

  14. G STAR

2 be fair, if is stayed 0 – 0 upto 70 mins, we would of won due to Barca tiring as usual, that why arshavin was probably on da bench.

    ps

rosicky is just shocking, worst than diaby and denilson

  15. G STAR

I wouldn’t blame wenger all the time, because he picks the team, but it is the teams responsibility to perform and do their roles.

    e.g.

    Bendtners failure to score
    rosicky ineffectiveness
    diaby taking so many touches
    fabregas back heel
    RVP getting sent off
    Koscienly mistake for penalty
    Nasri being isolated

  16. KM

Haven’t been on LE-Grove for a while now

I hope that we beat ManU today because they are there for the taking. I went to Anfield to watch them get hammered. L’pool pressed them really deep in that match and did not give their midfield a chance to breath. Scholes and Carrick were always pegged back in their own half. Their defence was resolute and they took their chances when they came.

We need to make sure that we do the exact tactics at Old Trafford. However it depends if we’r over our exit against Barca. But if we knock ManU out they will collapse in the league imo.

  17. G STAR

If only Arsenal pressed the ball like Barca and learned how to play as a team

we need fighters, world class players arent always the answers.

    ps

we need more divers (busquets, alves, eboue, denilson)

  18. KM

I was shocked when Fabregas made that crazy backheel pass. I was like WTF!!!!!! I thought it was Nasri but the passage of play that followed from Iniesta to MEssi was just brilliant.

However we want to dress it, I think we were up against one of the best sides in history. But at the same time it seems like we’v become their bitch in the Champion League.

Something has to change. I was shocked when Almunia said some of our players were walking in the 2nd half when we were a man down. That is appalling!!! I remember Inter against Barca….they were so well drilled but many of us will say that we were a man down but we were not as compact not did we close down players/space.

Is it age/experience of the players? Or is it the coaching? This issue has to be addressed asap.

Also we really lack a proper DM cover. Diaby/Wislhere are no DM’s. Although Wilshere is a brilliant player imo he’s our Xavi. The problem I think is that Wenger has been hesitant to buy a DM because he is waiting for Frimpong to come back. Its a catch22 situation because in his absence and when Song is injured we really lack a physical beast in the middle. If Wenger buys a DM then it will mean that Frimpong will either have to wait in the wings for a few years or he’l leave.

  19. Truth

    Starting 11

    Almunia

    Sagna – Djourou – Koscielny – Gibbs

    Denilson – Wilshere

    Nasri – Diaby – Arshavin

    van Persie

  20. KM

    GC

Wenger needs to get rid of the passengers in this side now:

    Denilson
    Bendtner
    Rosicky
    Diaby?

Needs to bring in a speedy winger who can play either wing (Hazard)? imo as well as a lethal & pacy striker. Chamakh is not the solution. Also a worldclass CB.

  21. arsenal4ever

G star but Wenger still believes Denilson and others has the talent. I cant believe he is becoming that mad!!

  22. KM

    Alex

you might as well write Ramsey off for this season.

Its better he comes back stronger and hungrier nxt season

  23. Evan

Ministry of Stating the bloody obvious, but everytime we play Manchester Utd i have this recurring word in my head which describes Rio Ferdinand the word in question CUNT

  24. GoonerClive

Today is probably the most important game Wenger has faced in years. Lose and the season most probably over as confidence hits rock bottom. Another year with nothing. Probably the fans mood will then swing to ousting the frenchman.
Win however, and a massive boost could see the Gunners going on to win at least one of the two trophies left.
I personally think Wenger has run out of time.
Although I would love to be proved wrong my gut feeling is that our club is on the brink…

  25. alex

Almunia, Sagna, Koscielny, Djourou, Gibbs, Diaby, Denilson, Nasri, Wilshere, Arshavin, Van Persie

VDS; Brown, Smalling, Vidic, Evra; Rafael, Gibson, O’Shea, Fabio; Rooney, Hernandez

Nerves have started to kick in.Will be spending the next few hours pacing around the bog. 😆

Salaam kM dost nice to have you back.

    Aap kiddar teh?

  27. Big Dave

Honestly. Is their any point in watching with Denilson and Diaby in the side. Hope Gibbs is up for it. were going down 3-0. sorry

  28. simon mcmahon

I fucking hate denilshite, not only because he is not good enough for a top team , but I will never forget his smug smile when he get a loosers medal at the the carling cup final.
    cunt he is !!!!

  29. TonyS

There was no mystery to Inters organization against Barca last year. The camera picked up
Maureen-ho as he was about to send a sub on. This is what he was saying (punching his hand on every word to emphasise)

    Xavi. Busquets.
    Xavi. Busquets.
    Xavi. Busquets.
    Xavi. Busquets.

The player came on and for the rest of the game did nothing else but run back and forth hassling Xavi & Busquets. Job done.

pretty interesting that Mourinho had worked out Barca’s game but I think he doesn’t have the players that he had at Inter. With RM he has to play attacking football or the fans/board will crucify him.

But sometimes it boils down to who wants it more..

    Bench

Kuszczak, Giggs, Scholes, Obertan, King, Valencia, Berbatov.

So Fergie does a Dalglish and picks a team full of defenders – Carrick and Fletcher both apparently injured, no chance of playing against Marseille on Tuesday

  35. patthegooner

    Denilson and Diaby

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Well will he ever fucking learn

  36. GoonerClive

We all despise the piss poor players but it makes no odds… Wenger has always done it his way and listens to no one.

  37. Albo

Cue mass hysteria as Le Grove melts down on realising that ‘Dudaby’ and ‘Denilshite’ are on the pitch together…

  38. dennisdamenace

How can i take this manager seriously anymore, when he leaves an undoubted talent like Ramsey on the bench and yet again starts Denilson, the only player who can single handedly destroy our flowing football, and his history at the club has been nothing short of shocking.

I feel sorry for Wilshere, having to cover for the fuck ups and abject fucking laziness of Denilson and Diaby, the lad is going to be fucked after this game.

  39. Paulinho

Can’t remember the last time we actually won a game with Scooby Doo and Deckchair in central midfield.

  40. GoonerClive

two hours time we will either be relieved that we have salvaged something, or fucked up as we realise every other bustard is laughing at us.. pressure on us as fans is huge..

  41. Dial Square

Oh for fucks sake why is he such a stubborn cunt? Why has he brought Ramsey back if he’s not going to play him?

  42. dennisdamenace

Always with one hand tied behind our fucking backs!

You really gotta feel sympathy for the true talented players in our team – AA23, Nasri, Wilshere, RvP – having to continually make up for Dumb and Dumber….

  43. OPG

United have a bit of a injury crisis with a CL game on Tuesday but we have problems ourselves with Diaby and Denilson having to play.

    South Africa need 13..

Of course their collective track records speak volumes for what we’ve won recently when they’ve been involved in the first team. You know not all those who wear the Red & White are actually deserving of it…..

  45. OPG

Diaby may well tire quickly aswell as anyone who played on Tuesday as expected Wenger plays Gibbs who didn’t play Tuesday.

  46. Ja_Gunner

    What happened to Bendtner?

Must have a knock………..Ramsey to replace Wilshere in the second half….Wilshere must be knakered from the shift he put in against Barca….

  47. albo

I’m not claiming that the ‘2 D’s’ are good players, or that I remotely trust them to run a midfield, but I love the idea that guys on here who have never been near the Colney training ground appear to know whether Ramsey is ready to play or not.

Yes Wenger called him back from loan, presumably because he believed him close to being fit, but the fact is, it’s not as if he looked world beating while on loan. He’s back at Arsenal so that he can help with the run in, but he’ll only play when he’s ready.

It’s not as if Wenger was afraid to pick him BEFORE the injury, so he must not be totally fit yet…

  48. dennisdamenace

What’s the betting RvP, Nasri and Wilshere will all come in for “special treatment” in this game….

Especially as we’re ManUre’s closest rivals for the title….

  49. albo

There’s an opinion often pushed forward by dimwitted British pundits who don’t really understand the modern game that 4-4-2 is an ‘attcking’ formation, and that 4-5-1 is a ‘defensive’ one.

Next time you hear that nonsense you just need to say one thing: Man U v Arsenal 12/3/11…

  50. dennisdamenace

It’s called having an opinion, based on the two players tracks records over the past four years….

  51. bnsb

Strange team from SAF. He puuls this off, people will be gloating how he cleverly out wit AW. If he doesnt, people will say he had one eye on CL (fact-as it appears). Either way we will get no credit WHEN we win today 🙂

  52. dennisdamenace

Already started with the “sit down you p@edophile” chants, yet nothing is said by the commentators!

  53. albo

dennisdamenace – its disgusting, but in fairness, you’d never expect commentators to mention it. Just like the cameras never show crowd problems…

  54. dennisdamenace

Nothing will be done about that by the FA, but they’re quick to condemn chants about fucking gays, daygos, gypos etc etc…..

  55. Dutchman

Why the fuck is united playing 7 defenders? And why the fuck plays wenger, denilson and diaby??!! Facking cunt! And fuck off about cesc, he let us lose against barca, cesc the cunt! I hate that ppl about : if we had cesc and that bullshit!

  56. tonyadamsisgod

I simply cannot understand how some people insist that Diaby has some sort of talent and that we are just waiting to see it! He is fucking useless! When he’s not injured that is!

  57. dennisdamenace

20 minutes gone, plenty of possession, plenty of quality play, but no end product….in fact we should really be 1-0 down….c’mon boys make this dominance count ffs.
