Vela off, Chezzer confirmed numero uno, Almunia’s back and are Arsenal about to get fined?

by & filed under Uncategorized.

So to begin with Carlos Vela’s departure to West Brom on loan, didn’t Simpson go there once? Hmmm the word is the agent moved the goal posts at the last minute so Vela didn’t go to Bolton, strange that, I thought it was Vela that was playing and the loan was up to Wenger, still never mind, that put paid to Cahill then.

Great news is that Wenger has confirmed Chezzer is the new Arsenal number one, that is indeed top, top news, stay un-injured boy and you’ll go far, we are a different team with you in and you have the support of this blog. Almunia is being told to fight for his place, how bizarre, he’ll only get in if Chezzer or Fab get injured, so unless he means fight them, like beat them up, I don’t see how fighting for his place works, still he’s back for the Huddersfield game tomorrow.

For those of you who didn’t know where Huddersfield is, it’s North of Watford and South of Norway, we’re at home though, so it doesn’t matter!

Now we know that Arsene will make wholesale changes, so I will guess the team, question is do we get fined like Blackpool did or are the big two exempt?

Here’s my guess for manana’s team.

Almunia

Eboue Squillaci Koscielny (or Miquel) Gibbs

Denilson Diaby Song

Bendtner Chamakh Arshavin

That’s my guess, we are running out of options as we seem happy to supply the rest of the league with loanees, so I’m thinking with Rosicky injured then Diaby who is fit, will step in, either way it’s a game where Pedro and I may well be rested, seems a long way to go to watch a second string play a conference side, so maybe resting the fans is no different to resting the players, I wonder how Ivan would feel about that, you know if we followed the leaders mantra and all took the day off!

On the way home on Thursday I met two very nice young ladies who were keen to talk about Le Grove and the Richard Keys and Andy Gray situation, they both said as girls that the whole thing was nonsense, well done girls and a victory for common sense, you were both delightful and it was nice sharing part of my journey with you talking about the Arsenal, you must have thought I was a sad old git! Thank you Cheryl and Jenny!

Have a great day Grovers, tomorrow we’ll see about the mighty Huddersfield and get to see our old boy, Benik Afobe!

Mayank – I don’t think it was a ‘poor’ analysis. For starters, Gambon knows full well that finding the stats on number of chances would be nigh on impossible to find for their careers.

What you did show is that sometimes what we think is a certain truth is not such a given, and that was all you were really saying anyway.

I just think Gambon is incapable of having a civil discussion about football without also throwing insults around. Makes him feel good about himself presumably…

  2. Rohan

I still want to see Barcelona play Stoke at the Brittania.

They’ll probably win, but watching them getting the shit kicked out of them would be entertainment of the highest order.

  3. Mayank

If you look at the number of goals a player is involved in(Goals + Assists) Cesc in the past 2 seasons and this one has 54(in 65 games).

RvP in the same time has a figure of 47(in 56 games).

Now since we consider Cesc the best MF on the planet, surely RvP can’t be too far behind in the striker stakes.

  4. Nicky

    Geoff,
While your two friends, Cheryl and Jenny may well feel that the Gray/ Keys affair is a load of nonsense, they musn’t look a gifthorse in the mouth. In one fell swoop we have been able to rid TV of two of the thickest pair of con artists ever. That can’t be bad, surely.

  5. Honest Bill

Gambon just enjoys winding people up that’s all. He is nowhere near stupid enough to actually believe that the ‘statistical analyses’ he posts, actually back up the arguments that he attaches to them.

  6. gambon

    Mayank

    How many has Rvp scored?

I’ll tell you one thing that’s funny. It’s only arsenal fans that talk about ‘goals and assists’ and its only when discussing Rvp.

He’s a great player, but he sits on a level below the very best, and fitness is a big, but not the only part of that.

  7. albo

Honest Bill – yeah, you’re right of course. Personally I love football, and I love Arsenal, and I love talking about them. Even when someone disagrees with me I enjoy talking about it and debating it.

I don’t understand why anyone would feel the need to bring unpleasantness and confrontation to every single little point they make – no matter how insignificant the discussion might be. Talking about the club you love ought to at least bring some joy, but he just seems to thrive only in being angry. Presumably compensating on the internet for issues in real life…

Even you don’t usually say such brazen lies. Are you honestly claiming that the ‘number of goals and assists’ a player has is never used in any footballing discussions about players. That is such barefaced nonsense that it is laughable?! It is possibly the MOST used measure of the effectiveness of an attacking player!

It does bring joy to gambon to talk about other teams that he wishes he supported.

Haha. True. You’re joking, but its fair to say that pretty much the only time I have ever heard him talking positively about anything has been when talking about Man U!

  10. Mayank

Gambon, isn’t it quite obvious why that is? RvP is that kind of striker who creates as many as he scores.

He and Cesc have the same influence on the game(in the way of goals + assists) yet one is the best MF in the game while the other is not even in contention?

They have a difference of 9 games played in 2.5 seasons. So even their fitness is comparable.

Yet you routinely suggest we should sell one and the other is the best player in his position.

  11. gambon

    Mayank

If cesc has more influence from midfield than van persie does upfront doesn’t that kind of highlight my point about cesc being the best in the world?

Should your Cf not be scoring far more than a cm?

It’s also notable that Holland went all the way in the WC but van persie did very little.

But let’s get one thing right, ive suggested the selling of van persie for purely fitness reasons. If he could be guaranteed 45+ games per season from now on that is one position we wouldn’t need to touch for a long time.

  12. Mayank

His choice, I have a feeling he wouldn’t mind getting knocked out of the FA cup now that he’s in the lead in the PL.

  13. albo

But let’s get one thing right, ive suggested the selling of van persie for purely fitness reasons. If he could be guaranteed 45+ games per season from now on that is one position we wouldn’t need to touch for a long time.

Agreed. If he could just string one full season together I swear we’d be talking about him as being one of the best 9 or 10 players in the world

  14. Mayank

    That’s the point Gambon.

Both have the same amount of defensive responsibility.

    Both have similar G+A figures(54,47).

    Both have similar fitness levels(65,56).

Both bring others around them into play at a similar level. Both are as important to our style of play.

So where’s the difference? Cesc edges RvP in every department but only just. The point is they both have and equal say in how many goals Arsenal score, who cares who scores them.

I really can’t understand the disparity in your appreciation of the two players.

  15. Mayank

Funny how both score or create .83 goals a match. Didn’t realise their influence was was similar to the point of being identical.

  16. Wenger the liar

    Keyser –

I have no idea what youre talking about. The only way I compared Henry to Messi was to say that they are both playground players, not exactly the same as saying they are the de boer brothers.

  17. Mayank

How many teams sing the ‘by far the greatest team the world has ever seen’ song? I seem to hear it at a lot of matches.

why does that knobhead have chicharito on his back?

Branding mate. Sells shirts. Plus, I think there is a good argument to say that by building Hernandez up (and its amazing what an iconic nickname can achieve in that respect) Man U deflected attention from the fact that thy didn’t make any marquee signings in the summer. (And given the hatred toward the Glazers at the time and the worries about the debt affecting their purchasing power, that was a pretty significant issue).

  19. Wenger the liar

    Incesc –

    Dont you start 🙂

I always wondered what happened to the guy that made the game kick off II, looks like he became southamptons kit designer.

    Haha GG9

if u r reading.ur pompousnous and showing off wallopped u & ur soccer team….japan screw aussies to win Asian cup…

thats why aussies LIKE GG9 have to learn to be humble when aussies are top in anything…and stop showing off..

    Japan worthy winners

  21. gambon

It does kind of highlight the difference in the respective managers thinking.

Utd sign Hernandez at 21, he comes straight in and does a good job.

We sign Vela at 17, loan him out for 2 years, bring him back, realise after 2 years he isn’t good enough, and loan him out again.

they are creating more than we do vs manure

Hardly surprising given its their B team, and, unlike their A team when they play us, they aren’t trying to park the bus…

  24. Wenger the liar

Even Uniteds first team are only just above average, if they win the league they will be the worst team to win the league in the history of the prem.

Seriously if we dont win the league this year we never will.

Dunno. Dropped cos he’s shit maybe. Weird, cos Gambon just made it clear that Fergie doesn’t buy untested youngsters who turn out not to be very good…

  28. albo

We so should. Silvestrihno and Denilsarito are 2 of the best players I’ve ever seen play football!

(Oh, and Bebe’s on the bench apparently)

  29. Kushagra India

Apparently Man United’s new signing refuses to take set-pieces. When asked to, he said: ‘Nobody puts Bebe in the corner’..

  30. Wenger the liar

With regards to us signing Torres for £35-£40m I would much prefer us to get Benzema and Mascherano for what I think would be around the same cost, maybe less even.

Totally agree. Actually, I’m really surprised given Torres injuries lately that Chelsea aren’t look at Benzema instead. I suppose its also about making an iconic signing that also works on a commercial level for them…

  32. Wenger the liar

    Gambon –

Hed play in place of Song, cue the abuse.

Or alternatively in place of Denilson when Song plays CB after one of our current CBs get fucked on Feb 2nd.

  33. albo

PLEASE let vidic and Ferdinand get injured. No way united would win the league with these guys at the back for a month or 2!

  34. gambon

Obviously he wouldn’t sit on the bench, that’s why he’s leaving barca.

Messi, Zidane, Ronaldinho, Platini, Maradonna, Pele, Cruyff, Puskas, DiStefano.

None would work in our system. Yet Nick Bendtner & Denilson clearly do…..pmsl!

Imagine seeing some of them in a Arsenal shirt. Most of them piss on messi

  37. Melvyn

Wow manures 2nd string are miles worse than ours even with the team Geoff suggested for tomoz would beat them comfortably.

Chamberlain is the real deal shame our cheques books gone back into storage bet manure buy him – shame

    great punditry.

“torres has won the world cup, the european championship but he has never won anything as a player”

  40. Rohan

Denilson is better than Darren Gibson. Can’t believe he’s a United player. He’s so fucking shit.

He has 20 long range shots a game where he scores 1 in 200, and then everyone goes gaga. Does fuck all otherwise and has the footballing intelligence of a turd.

  41. Rohan

Oxpot-Chamberdale hasn’t looked too bad to be honest. Probably not worth 10 million at this stage though.

I guess if Wenger does rate him that highly, we’ll be in for him. I’m going for a transfer deadline day swoop

  42. Wenger the liar

    Gambon –

I take your point. I still would like him.

It aint happening anyway so I wont go into the pros and cons.

  43. Rohan

Does anyone think Lindegaard could’ve done better there or was it just unstoppable?

imo, he was a bit off positionally

  44. Rohan

That’s a fucking pen. How fucking dodgy and lucky are United this season.

O’Shit didn’t even get the ball. Not even close.

  45. Rohan

    Yeah, obertan’s useless.

If you’re French and any good, if you’re not at Arsenal, you’ll atleast be linked with us.

  46. Kushagra India

50 mins Southampton Arsenal (it’s a verb, honest) their way around the edge of the Manchester United area, opting for six passes when one would have done and eventually watching Chaplow knock the ball behind for a goal-kick as the crowd implore him to “shoooooooooot”.

    lolz fro, guardian…

  47. Rohan

I think it’s just a fluke they’ve gone undefeated. They’ve been incredibly, incredibly lucky.
I honestly can’t see them coming into the game with us unbeaten.

They really aren’t all that. We really should be walking the league.

  48. Rohan

I wouldn’t be so sure. I’d say the prem is as strong as ever. Utd. have the same squad as last season as do the Chavs. We’ve improved and while Pool has regressed City and SPurs have more than improved.

United season’s has just been flukey.

  49. Kushagra India

Yep Arsenal in January have shown some very encouraging signs lets pray our CB’s remain fit we should be comfy…

  50. Dutchman

That tells you more about the BPL if a shit team like manure are still undefeated..

I think that is true to some extent, but I also think that, slightly counter-intuitively, their unbeaten run is partly a product of their mediocrity. I mean, has a united team ever set itself up so defensively in away games against mid-table opposition as this one does? I actually think a better united team would have lost a couple of games but have plenty more points than they do now…

  52. Kushagra India

Chavs have regressed a lot Ballack Carvalho have been big missed,
Manure remained still ,Liverpool and Villa have regressed big time ,Spuds and Citeh are the same so BPL is poorer imo…. we are showing signs of improvement fingers crossed on injuries front..

  53. gambon

So what you are all saying is we are only in the title race due to the regression of our rivals?

A lot of people have been shot down on here for that.

  54. Kushagra India

So we should be walking the league tbf with our squad but AA23 and Rosicky have been the big disappointments…

  55. Wenger the liar

I would agree and say that city and spurs are stronger, that said if Rooney did leave United and Cesc left Us we would be talking about if the prem was better than Serie A and not La Liga.

It might just be that they are saying it reasonably, intelligently and without resorting to calling people names, so its actually being discussed rather than ‘shot down’…

  57. Kushagra India

gambon not purely because our away form deserves some merit but agree this is a golden opportunity to win things ,City will be a far bigger threat next year Manure and Chavs require heavy spending…

  58. Rohan

We have improved as well. Stop being such a wind up merchant. The league has become tougher imo/ The top 12 or so are much stronger than usual.

    These are some shit teams.

    2-1 united cunts.

  62. Kushagra India

Spuds have continued from where they left off in last season Citeh hmmmm marginal but Dzeko looks xcitin..

  63. albo

Personally, where I think the league HAS much improved over the past few seasons is in the midtable. And its less about personnel than it is about organisation and fitness etc. I think there are far more really capable outfits (eg Birmingham at home) without vast amounts of class and flair, but with a great work ethic and defensive organisation.

It means that, on a good day, far more teams are capable taking points off the top 4 or 5 teams than used to be the case.

    (Shit terrible defending!)

  64. Rohan

Shit teams historically, but a lot better than they were before. A few years ago, outside the top 6, it was basically a crapshoot.
