Absolutely shameful. Arsenal vs Manchester City match review + player ratings

by & filed under Uncategorized.

There was a bit of relief worry when Fabianski was thought to be injured before the game. Luckily he wasn’t…

The line up was unchanged from the Birmingham game, could we defeat the might of the petro dollar, could we pull away from the pack… well read on and I’ll tell you!

Alex Song has gone all David Beckham of late, as Geoff correctly called yesterday, the man from Cameroon rolled out onto the pitch with yellow hair and a yellow beard to match. I’m struggling to see why he’s decided to model himself on Portuguese drug cheat Xavier, but regardless, he’s managed to get an additional paragraph of PR on this Arsenal blog, so 1-0 to Mr Song!

Manchester City lined up in desperately negative fashion and in the opening 45 minutes, they were subjected to what can only be described as a mesmeric display of Arsenal power and dominance.

Almost instantly Samir Nasir and Cesc played some neat one two football in the middle of the park, Jack was found in space, he cut the ball across goal to Robin who failed to make connection by 2 inches. If only the Dutchman had eaten one less pie before the game (Euro 96 Gazza reference before food disorder groups get on my case).

Soon after, Jack Wilshere ripped a shot at Joe Hart’s goal, it was so fierce, the Englishman could only parry it. Proving this was not a one-off, Robin found some space with a Cruyft cut back and unleashed another thunderbolt at goal. Who told the boys they could shoot?!

Jack Wilshere nearly broke the deadlock again after placing a controlled volley to the right of Joe Hart. The City keeper was equal to the shot again. This was starting to feel like the Arsenal of old, pummeling the goal with little reward. Give me this type of game over a flat impotent possession football any day of the week!

As the game wore on, City started to gain a foothold, they were trying to control the pace of the game and keep it as dull as possible. They had their first chance from a set piece. The ball was launched to the back post, Sagna missed his header, Tevez cut the ball back but Song was on hand to clear.

We went up the other end, Cesc’s placed a shot at Hart’s near post, only to be denied by the woodwork, Theo was on hand for the rebound and hit the post again! It’s worth noting he was offside.

The final bit of controversy of the half came when Theo was slipped in by Robin, Kompany went to defend, Theo crossed and hit the ugly Belgians claw but the ref deemed it accidental handball. If you took your £6.99 Arsenal branded goggles off, you’d probably say that was a fair decision.

The second half started off with slightly less fanfare.

Van persie went close when he weaved his way into the box but selfishly tried to fire in from a nightmare angle.

He then unleashed a powerful shot from 30 yards that Joe Hart managed to tip round the post superbly well.

The second half was a much flatter occasion, it seemed as though we’d peaked too soon and we never really recovered the same excitement, tenacity or creativity. That was a shame, but I guess you have to hold your hands up and say City are an exceptionally talented squad of top professionals. You can’t really expect to dominate in the way we did for 90 full minutes.

The only real excitement came late on in the half when Sagna and Zabaleta clashed down the right. It was a bit of a nothing challenge, but the Frenchman felt aggrieved, jumped up and butted the City man twice. They both received red cards, which was probably a  bit unfair on Zabaleta.

I really hate to see players head butting, it’s a vile act and not really the Arsenal way. It’s also very odd to see a player as placid as Sagna act in such an ill disciplined manner? Maybe he was upset that the worst haircut in the team no longer belonged to him? Maybe he was frustrated by the light blue chavs failure to play football. Who knows… it’s just a pain we lose a top performer for a minimum of 3 games.

Thoughts on the game?

Well, on the strength of that game, if City are title contenders, then so are we. The first point is that we didn’t lose the game and we’ve taken 4 points off a top 4 rival this year. We absolutely showed  we were the better team out there today and we played some superb football in the first half.

I think it’s absolutely shameful that a team worth £170million can come to London and play that negatively. If I were a City fan I’d be embarrassed I had a coach as wimpy as that. Playing surrender football in the Premier League goes against all we know, blasphemous if you will. Playing defensively with that side is like buying a £3million country manor and sleeping in the shed.

I’m a little disappointed we didn’t go for the jugular in the second half. I thought maybe the coach could have changed things up earlier in a bid to snatch the three points, but the simple fact is that if win our game in hand, we’ll be second, though a massive 7 points off the top of the table (assuming United win their game  in hand).

For me, tonight simply proved how wrong Wenger was to rest 8 players against Wigan and how costly those dropped points were early in the season. It’s ok saying it was a tactical masterstroke because we had players fresh for Birmingham, but when you look at the festive mini table out of the top 5, we finished 4th. Those 2 dropped points mean that instead of United having to drop points in 2 games for us to catch them, they’ve now got to drop points in 3 with us taking the maximum from ours.

Insurmountable? Of course not… A big ask? I think so. United have all the experience going into this home stretch. On the flip side of the coin, it is always nice to be the underdog. Arsene certainly thrives on that label and it relieves the pressure. It’s United’s to lose and we’re only in January. It doesn’t matter how great you are, that is a lot of pressure to carry for 4 months!

From now until the end of the season, the tinkering has to stop. Rest players by all means but not to the detriment of  team understanding or shape. Dont try to appease the dressing room sulkers and don’t try to spin us a yarn that the team with the youngest average age (you do keep reminding us of this fact) needs the most rest. I read an interview last year from Alex Ferguson and he said you shouldn’t need to convince players they’re not tired in the home stretch, the adrenaline carries you home.

Wenger, be a winner from now until the end of the season. Show us you’ve got the courage to see this season through. We won’t get a better opportunity than we have now… with the right decisions, we could end this May with something more exciting than a Carling Cup, it’s down to you though to be ruthless and intelligent with your team.

Last night might not have been the desired result, but we’re starting to find our style again and we kept a clean sheet.

Lets take the positives and move onto the next game!

See you in the comments!

P.S. According to the media yesterday, Spurs were in it, Chelsea were not despite the muppets down the road only being a point above the Chav’s. They both lost last night, so as far as I’m concerned, they’re both out the race.

Ratings –

Fabainski – Very little to do. His kicking was good. 6

Sagna – He nearly cost us from a set piece and managed to land himself a red card. 5

Clichy – I thought he had a solid game. No drama. 6.5

Kozzer – Always plays more advanced than JD mopping up on the ground and on the floor. He likes playing with the Swissman. Again, no drama. 7

JD – Made a couple of super interceptions and kept City boys very quiet. 7

Song – I thought he had an excellent game. Is it a coincidence I have blonde hair and so does Song? Probably not. He had great discipline today and did his job well. 8.5

Jack – Much more of an attacking threat than he has been of late. Combative in the middle of the park, crisp with his passing. 8

Cesc – Menacing in the middle as always. Chipping away City all game. Unlucky not to score and assist on a few occassions. 8

Walcott – Starting to use his pace in a more productive way. He’s also showing that he knows how to turn defenders and create space for himself. Very impressive. 8

Nasri – He’s a dream to watch this year, he’s skillful, aggressive and powerful. I love him. 8

RvP – Slowly beginning to find his feet. I think his freekicks are poor and wasteful though. Needs to get a bit more snap into his first time shooting. 7

Subs –

Bendtner – Didn’t really do much. 6

Arshavin – Clearly not the impact sub I’d hoped he’d be! 6

  1. Colonel Mustard

We cant complain. we had chances and unlucky. but we can’t critcise City for their tactics. We did the same thing and won a cup final.

  2. nuudles

jip Big Dave, if it is possible for Chelsea to get only 10 points out of the last possible 33 (or something like that) then it must surely be possible for Mancs to also have a bad run. The problem is they did go through a very bad spell but seemed to draw a lot as opposed to losing the games, which makes a lot of difference…

  3. Big Dave

Would luv it if we could take the title to the last game of the season, how thriling, sky wont know what to show. going for the title, fight for 4th spot, religation

  4. Franchise

scary thing is manure have a good defence and the strikers to fire them to the title. their midfield is suspect tough

  5. A

nuddles they only have to drop a similar number of points to those they have already, and their fixtures in the second half of the season are much harder on average than those they’ve had already.

looking at it objectively one would EXPECT them to drop a fair few points, it isn’t just a case of it being “within the realm of possibility”.

The table is misleading because of the way the fixtures have gone, I can’t remember any time fixtures have been so lopsided?

It won’t be easy, as you say we’ve shot ourselves in the foot with the losses to West Brom, Spuds and Newcastle, but we’re still very much in there, and have a very good chance as long as we can be consistent

  6. Man

Although manure were lucky against West Brom, I hate to say this but I think manure are getting better esp since Rio and Vidic started playing together.

I watched their match against Stoke and I must say they could have won it in the first half. Second half was more even but these teams seem less motivated when they play manure, not sure why. There might still be just a little aura about them lingering slowly but certainly ebbing away drop by drop…

  7. dsqd

Looking at the fixtures for the rest of January, we should be looking to win every game. We do that and I’m sure we will be second and closing in on United, still in the FA cup and looking forward to a CC final.

Of course rotation in the cups could scupper that, but it’s the league I really want anyway.

  8. A

Man I agree about Utd getting stronger, although I reckon it’d have more to do with Rooney (potentially) becoming good again. Ferdinand has played most of their games this season, although he’s needed resting because of his injury problems. That’ll be no different in the second half of the season

  9. A

Yeah Man I agree, but I’m not sure who else could play in either position??

If we’re going for youth players then Miquel at centre back and Eastmond in midfield?

  10. adedayo adeyemi akanbi

pls add me on facebook.adedayo adeyemi akanbi.i think we finding some footballing philosophy of late.cant wait for our sexy football, against planet football barca

  11. Man

If Rooney starts playing well again, say at 80% of his form last season, they will win the league. I really hate to say it but its true. Rooney is only playing ahead of Hernandez purely on reputation.

  12. Jimbo

I thought our performance, bar the finishing, was exceptional yesterday, by every single one of our players bar Arshavin, who I thought was slack, and fucking lazy.

That said, it’s 2 points dropped against Utd, and our title hopes seem faint. That said, 2nd place and a couple of cups and I think we can be proud of our season – we’re playing the best football of anyone in the country in the last few weeks (bar the shitebags who played against Wigan), so we have to be positive about the FA cup (if the same shitebags who played against Wigan don’t fuck it up against Leeds).

  13. Jimbo

On the evidence of yesterday, City will win fuck all this season. They don’t have the quality of us or Utd (or even the Yids), and they sure as fuck havent’ got what it takes to beat a big team in the cups.

what a disgraceful bunch of cunts they are.

  14. Man

A, yeah its a slight worry. I think Koscielny will start but we might see Song in midfield having a free role and letting Denilson do the ‘sitting’.

  15. ritesh

Lazy Russian on = full backs in trouble.

Walcott would have tracked Zabaletta back and avoided an unecessary card.

Sagna did well…you cant expect him to be kicked all the time and not react….thats NOT the Arsenal way 😉

  16. A

Man I wouldn’t say that they WILL win the league. Even with an on form Rooney they still have tough away games they could well struggle in. They’d certainly improve from their first half of the season though, although that’d have little impact on their home form, and their away form couldn’t get much worse!

  17. nuudles

Jip A, agree about the fixtures being lopsided this year. The worry I have is they have Ferguson who seems to get the best out of his players, if you look at their team they should be average-to-good, and definitely not unbeaten or unbeatable. Man-for-man we match or beat them in most positions (save for 1 or 2). Plus our back-up & depth is vastly superior to theirs.

If they get injuries in crucial positions like we had last season they could really struggle. (imagine them without Vidic, Nani, Rooney, etc for as long as we were without RVP, TV, Cesc out)

  18. Man

manure started the season ‘on a dip’, and have been on a deep for a while, the annoying thing is they still get points while ‘in a dip’.
Our home just hasn’t been good enough. We still have hope though.

I hope our improvement surpasses theirs, as we will need that to overhaul our points deficit.

  19. Jimbo

I reckon it will be Koscielny and Squillaci at the back against Leeds – Djourou looked knackered yesterday, and both he and Song were doubled over catching their breath several times before the end. Neither will play.

    Probably be

    GK – Sczeszenzzzzzzzzznnnnny

    LB – Gibbs
    CB – Koscielny
    CB – Squillaci
    RB – Eboue

    CM – Denilshite
    CM – Rosicky
    CM – Wilshere

    RW – Bendtner (I know!)
    CF – Chamakh
    LW – Arshavin

  20. Jimbo

The only impression that Joe Hart created on me that he was a pathetic no-mark, just like his waster England colleagues Barry and Milner.

Quality keeper, but time-wasting after 15 minutes? You’ve got to be kidding!

  21. Rohan

For some reason, after yesterday’s game, I’m even more convinced that we’re going to win the title.

United will drop points guaranteed. They’ve won just 2 of 9 away games in the league. They’re due a drop in form. At last, we’re seeing us with our proper first team. Get Ramsey in and firing and we’re unstoppable.

  22. Big Dave

Milner was a disgrace going down easily when we had the ball, and staying down, 24mill for that cock. I like Hart but if the ref had warned him or booked him early then none of his time wasting would had continued

  24. ritesh

Song was one of our best players out there last night

The way he controlled the midfield with power and guile is reminiscent of Viera/petit with added technical ability.

Song, Kos, JD, Clichy, Nasri and Walcott need breaks.

Let Lazy Russian lead the line for FA cup.

  25. ritesh

I think HArt was best City player. No one could play Arsenal any other way now. Any team which opens up will take a huge beating.

We only lack one player to make this team as good as Barca. Wenger, go get one of Eto, Milito, Ibrahimovitch.

  26. Jimbo

Just sell that useless twerp Chamakh!

Yesterday even Wenger realised that he was wasting his time with him, and he wouldn’t eb good enough agaisnt City. Sell chamakh, sign Suarez.

  27. ZARgooner

anyone else noticing how poor Reina has been playing for liverpool… if Fabianski had let in the first 2 goals (one through his legs and one over his head)that reina did last night there would be at least 1000 comments of how poor he is. Still believe however we do need a REAL number one but just offering some perspective, especially since we tried to sign him.

  28. ritesh

Chamakh is good actually to face the third tier teams, he did well when RVP was not aroung and he works his socks off for us. He needs a deserved break.

  29. Jimbo

If our finishing had been just fractionally better, we would have battered City. It’s our own fault really, as shocking as they were. It’s not like we didn’t take their defence to the cleaners, they just got us on a bad day in front of goal.

Nothing particularly smart in the way they played.

  30. Mark

agree Song was our best. I was very impressed with him. one thing he could improve on is getting goal-side of his opponent when tackling; sometimes he can body-up or tackle and opponent while he is not goal-side.

  31. A

Agreed Big Dave, I could certainly see Arshavin moving on, unless he really finds some form over the rest of the season, which he’s going to have to do largely from the bench.

Even then he’d only be staying for one more season and if that was at the expense of signing Hazard then prob not

  32. ritesh

Forget about Hazard, Cahill and other crap players.

We need to sign only one or 2 world class players now. minimum 35M players. this is what Barca have been doing.

  33. Big Dave

Arseblog does not talk shite, goal.com is a crap site.

The writer of arseblog knows what he is on about and has goos sources to.

  34. Jimbo

Big Dave – I hope it’s not the source that told him we’d signed Joe Cole!

I’d rather get Vermaelen back than sign Samba, or any more dodgy frogs that Wengker loves so much.

  35. Big Dave

The thing for AA23 is that he is now a sub player, but when he comes on he nust prove himself and not start these silly flicks etc. Great player but so frustrating at times, gone backwards imo. The only way he will find his way back into the side is by working hard and playing well

  36. Jimbo

    Yeah, I saw that Man.

Probably asking Mancini how on earth he payed £300m for a team that couldn’t even attack.

  37. Jimbo

I’m never normally one to criticise another team’s tactics against us – they do what they have to do, and if that means Blackburn give us a good kicking and park the bus and come away with a point, then fair enoguh.

But City yesterday were just so, so pathetic. I’ve never felt this way about an opposition before, and I have to say, they are an embarrassment to the league.

  38. Man

Lol Jimbo…trust Cesc to be outspoken. I remember the put down he gave to Mark Hughes when he managed Blackburn.

  39. Woolwichstilhere

Wengker might not sign anyone. We have three strikers. He refuse to sign beckham cos we hav too many options in midfield. Now vermalean is back. Do u realy think he wil sign?

  40. A

Woolwich I’d say that he refuses to sign Beckham because he’s nowhere near good enough for us! If we had no depth in midfield I’d be very upset if we were in for him!

I don’t think we’ll sign anyone either, unless someone becomes available who Wenger has been looking at for a while so we’re forced to act now or never

  41. goonermichael

    Hi Franchise
I don’t think the mancs defence is as good as it’s made out to be. the shitty defence is (as you said) much beter.

  42. bernard (bade the gooner)

I dont understand why AW didnt play Chamakh & opted B52 over him! this is the kind of games we needed one like him throwing his body & presence on the stuffed city box.
I assume its about AW trying to persuade B52 to stay so he is giving him playing time, & i hate that. I rather have Vela & Chamakh on the team. Just cash on him or use him to snap a deal with bayern munich for Schweinsteiger.

  43. Stu

Dont know if this has been mentioned but why the fuck is Sagna being targeted as of late? Bowyer was intent on injuring him and last night Barry basically ran him off the pitch, Jo stood on his ankle and then there was the red card incident which imo was Sagna finally having enough and fighting back.

He seems like one of the nicest guys you could meet. Never makes a bad tackle or anything to suggest he’s a cunt so why does everyone seem to have it in for him?

Also, last thing i read here last night was David saying Theo has brilliant technique because he dummied a pass to VP and shot narrowly wide. Well, the shot was good but i thought i took a deflection but the dummy? No chance he meant that. Imo he just took a touch, Zabaleta backed off so he just shot. He definitely didnt mean that. And hitting the post from there, shocking!

  44. goonermichael

Why did Sagna get so pissed off? Did zabaleta say something? He kept his cool with bowyer and plug something else may have happened.

  45. Rohan

David’s brilliant…Theo can do no wrong in his eyes. Walcott was good but not all that last night..

He had an opportuinity to shoot where he hesitiated in the second half and lost the chance which was pretty crucial imo. Missing from out there especially when the ref didn’t call for offside was disappointing too.

  46. Rohan

Why the fuck are there 2 legs in the semis of the Carling Cup? One leg should do it.

The way this bunch are playign atm, expect a cricket score even with the second team.

  47. jlp1229

    Afternoon all
Last night was exactly what stifles the PL imo.
Too many teams set up not to lose or just looking to thump their way to a result.
Fucking gutless, shameful display from a top 4 team and they did that vs the Mancs and spuds as well.
    So be it.
We just need to start banging them in a la juninho style.
A how did you manage to get a wordpress account only using one letter?

  48. Doublegooner

Bar a goal, that was a performance we’ve been waiting ages for.

Power, pace, skill & commitment. Everyone played well.

Why oh why the 2 poor substitions ???

AA23 is a fucking lazy luxury player. I know its not true but if Juve or someone wants him ..Flog him !!

  49. Jimbo

Then again, Beckham is far better than D&D at what he does. They’re different players, all three of them, and NONE of them should be at Arsenal.

  50. incesc

we need united to lose about 6-7 games

they will definately beat us with park scoring, and we will get all depressed and lose games after barce knock us out.

  51. Doublegooner

Your right, it worked well. Especially Djourou who was very assured & composed. Looked the part.

  52. gambon

  53. nuudles

It seemed like Zabaletta said something because when they were walking off Yaya came to Sagna and Sagna made a talking gesture with his hand – seemed to indicate to me that he said something to him, and I think it must have been really vile in order for him to react like that since he wasn’t even bothered when Bowyer stepped on him… Sagna hardly ever retaliates.

One more thing: everyone is saying it was slightly harsh on Zabaletta, but he clearly initiated the head challenge because he stood over Sagna after he tackled him with his head heald forward in challenge, he was clearly threatening Sagna, the reason why most people think it was harsh is because Sagna pushed a bit more with his head. I am glad they got the same punishment because it would have been unfair if only Sagna got punished.

  54. Rohan

We need them to lose 1 and draw like 8 realistically assuming we drop a few here and there.

That’s not really asking too much given that they’ve only won 2 out of 9 away games so far and have really tough games coming up.

I still fancy us to win it. Get behind the lads-play like we did yesterday, and we’ll win it no problem.

  55. Woolwichstilhere

The more i watch the mancs the more i see nothing so special abt them. Don’t understand why they always beat us.

  56. Rohan

Yeah still very disappointed we didn’t beat them. With Chelsea over the years, they’ve admittedly been better than us. But we’re clearly so much fucking better than them…..We never play to our best against them coz if we did, we’d destroy them.

  57. Woolwichstilhere

If dj/kozze remain this solid. Then vermalean wil hav to struggle hard to get in. Sorry verm, thats the game

  58. Jimbo

Koscielny was better yesterday, but he still was completely out of his depth when 1 v 1 with Tevez.

Vermaelen will have no problem replacing him.

  59. incesc

    maybe about sagnas brother?

just seen we have fa cup games after both barce games, sweet.

who have united got in europe?

  60. gambon

I told you all Vermaelen was fucked ages ago.

We need a CB, but Wenger will drag it out til its too late. Wenger knew he was fucked ages ago.

  61. A

Not sure about needing them to drop THAT many points Rohan – that’d have them finising on 79. If we win all of our games we’ll be on 91 points, and the champion will probably end up on 83/84.

Utd will lose more than one game though

  62. finestcuts

The most important thing about this game is, we were by far the better team, and were denied by the woodwork 3 times so we’re very unfortunate not to have scored. After the game Mancini praised Arsenal acknowledging that we played better than his team, and called the point a very important one……because he knows he got away with it.
The good news is, City won’t be able to get away with it as often as that, I predict we’ll finish above them, their conservative approach will cost them chances to score. Breaking into the Champions League is their key aim, and with Chelsea at the end of their cycle, it looks like this could be their year alongside Tottenham who have strong claims for a Champions League place….but to sum it up I agree with the post, we’re aiming for a top 3 finish….top 2 really because we should finish above City. Manchester United despite having problems off the pitch with the Rooney saga are unbeaten in the league and in solid form.

Onto Champions League news, Barca drew Bilbao 1-1 away in the Spanish King’s Cup and progressed on away goals. Lionel Messi, Xavi and David Villa all started the game so they gave Bilbao a lot of respect. Good news for us, our match analysts should take a few tips from Bilbao and see how we can implement them in our game when we face them. Barca can be held, and can be beaten….we’ve got plenty of goalscorers as well as Fabregas returning to top form, and Nasri in immaculate form. Their link up play is a menace to any defence.

  63. incesc

Tevez is a great player, very hard to get the ball off.

wish he played for us, he’d score bundles of goals.

  64. Jimbo

incesc – yep, Tevez is good, but top defenders like Vermaelen CAN tackle him. 2nd rate defenders like Koscielny have less chance.

That said, I thought he was good when not playing 1 v 1 yesterday.

  65. GoonerDNA

It looks as if we’ve finally learnt how to push teams up high without allowing teams to counter us, that’s not all down to Song playing in the hole I think the balance of the side is alot better.

  66. A

I guess we’ll find out tomorrow how Vermaelen’s training has gone this week, whether he’s had any setbacks etc. Hopefully goal.com reporting that he got through it fine is accurate

  67. finestcuts

I hope Wenger won’t leave it till the last week of Jan because by then all the top deals will have gone and it will smack of desperation meaning price will go up. We could do with another defender, preferably one with Premier League experience. Hopefully we won’t be getting a Juventus 4th choice CB on loan (or equivalent) because arguably he could play it like that saying we have 3 centre backs and we only need a fourth one for cover esp. if Vermaelen is expected in Feb or March. We’re in the title race with a good chance, I hope he buys a starter rather than a reserve.

  68. finestcuts

Verminator has a year of Premier League experience under his belt, so he’s v important to us. I’d much rather him and Djourou against Barca than Kos.

  69. jay4741

loads on newsnow, experienced, prem proven, we need a centre back CHEAP sounds like an arsene siging to me

  70. Jimbo

There are 3 stories on NewsNow, all based on the crappest piece of Metro journalism ever.

    we’re not signing Samba

  71. Queen of Suburbia

I don’t see how anyone can describe that as a tactical masterstroke?

Any plan that involves being so lucky that your opponent hits the woodwork 4 times is not a very secure plan.

City were shredded, sliced diced and exposed yesterday. The fact that they got lucky doesn’t make them great defenders. It makes them lucky.

People seem to forget that Vermaelen wasn’t all that last season .He made quite a few high profile mistakes. Perhaps his prolific goal scoring did make him a bit more popular…

Melo’s a cunt of the highest order. He seems to do this on a regular basis FFS..He isn’t even that good imo..

Song is twice the player. Whisper it, but Song among top 3 DM’s in the league?

Erm….we didnt strike the woodwork 3 times.

And hitting the post is missing the target, not lbad luck, bad shooting.

I have to be honest, i thought we would be more out of the race than we are now after chelsea brum and city.

Sagna was a stupid fool for what he did and deserved his red card, good for us that two of the three games will be cup matches and he needs a rest, but Zabaleta also deserved his.

Firstly he committed the foul, then he turned around and stood over Sagna asking for the confrontation.

If Zabaleta had got back to his defensive position and not stood up against Sagna, neither would have been carded.

so in my opinion both deserved their reds.

You cannot knock Citeh getting a point away from home against one of their rivals, but if I had invested £300 million in a team, I would expect a little bit of entertainment for my money.

This season if Citeh win anything it will be a travesty. Classless and overpaid, with no talent or belief

Samba and Hazard in over January would be wonderful (but it wont happen).

We have Nasri, Walcott and AA who can play on the wing. Rosicky is played more in a CM role these days when he comes on. Bendy showed he is NOT a winger. Maybe possible to play RVP on the right (or left) wing and play Bendy/Chamakh in the middle?? We are also going to let Vela go on loan, and with no Wellington Silva in the foreseeable future we might be a bit short on the wings (could possibly play JET there, but he looks like a beast in the middle), so I wouldnt mind Hazard at all, I think he can also play in CM, he seems quite like Nasri in some ways.

I would get Samba on the cheap and then sell either him or Squil in the summer (more likely Squil), with JD being eased back and TV not back to regular match fitness any time soon (conflicting rumours on him) we need one more CB. Imagine TV not back soon, JD/Kos gets injured, then with our packed fixtures Song would have to occasionally play CB (or if someone else gets injured) meaning Denilson to play DM!!! The horror…

Need to bookmark all the ppl talking shite about Kos, they’ll be shown to not know much.
We’ll have to count clean sheets under the JD – Kos partnership and compare it with the Gallas – Vermy last year

GoonerDNA, do they have a blog? Do they even have supporters? The same people who go to watch chess-matches because it is just so unbelievably riveting & entertaining?
