Arsenal need to win to go top, lose and we drop out top 3.

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Let me start by mentioning Jose Mourinho, he had this to say to the Sun yesterday, ‘Instead of speaking about Real Madrid, Mr Wenger should speak about Arsenal and explain how he lost 2-0 against a team in the Champions League for the first time. The story about the young kids is getting old now. Sagna, Clichy, Walcott, Fabregas, Song, Nasri, Van Persie, Arshavin are NOT kids. They are all top players’

Well Arsene, he does have a point, one I whole heartedly agree with, one most fans can have no argument with and one you’d do well to heed, concentrate on your own team and work out how you can get back to winning again.

Today is match day, today we’ll all get behind you again, today we have to believe, win it and we are top of the league, don’t win and we’ll lose our third spot and get close to being overtaken by the spuds, something thought laughable this time last week. Last week we would have been top and ten points clear of them had we won, well we didn’t, so time to forgive and forget.

Arsene, today we are behind you, but today we need to win, so how do we do that? Pick a team that can win and hold on to a lead.

Here’s my choice.

Sagna Djourou Squillaci Gibbs

Wilshere Song Nasri

Walcott Robin Arshavin

Ok but this time tell the defence to stay in their own half, tell Song to stay just in front his defence but behind his midfield, and tell the forwards to shoot when they are within 25 of the goal should they see a gap.

Also time to start lobbing the hairdryer around the changing room instead of telling them they are young and special, they aren’t, trouble is from the  inside information I get, there are a lot of people in this team with attitude.

Nikki B has been shouting his mouth off about leaving if he doesn’t get played, you play him, he’s crap and you say nothing, not that we heard anyway. Time to start thinking of the poor sods that travel everywhere supporting this team, either that or start refunding them when the team plays like crap.

Good to hear that Robert Pires is telling the Villa fans he really wanted to play for the Arsenal, way to get the fans on your side Robert! I hope that the away fans find a suitable song to sing at Villa Park!

Aside from all the above, I expect us to win, and win well, it says a lot about a team that needs a 37 year old winger to help them win, go for it Arsenal, get some pride back, but please for the sake of every Arsenal fan, don’t play Denilson again, at least not in the same team as Song, two defensive midfielders don’t work, they might if it were Essien and Mascerano, but they aren’t.

Have a great day Grovers, live on the telly, early kick off and top of the league by 3pm, it doesn’t get better than that, a chance to put right what we should have done last week!

Maureen is right,we hv top players its the manager with his tactics, do u think morinhou*(sp) would alow lazines in his team ? I realy doubt that 2day,we unleash unto them ….i have fire in my belly,i wish our playerz had da same…

  2. Pedro

Great post Geoff… no mucking around today!

Mourinho is right as well… I don’t know why Wenger bothers speaking about him, he knows he’ll get some shit back.

I reckon we’ll win today, it’d be nice to see a great attitude out there and a compact defensive display.

I’m off to the gym, catch you all later!

  3. Hitman

Unfortunately Maureen is a more successful manager than Wenger. The fact that he is prepared to be more cynical (the red cards) just shows the win at all costs mentality that is so lacking in the Arse dressing room.
Our players need a rocket up their arse and a good slap. Wenger wont supply it.

  4. Jonas

No arguments with that team but Wenger will keep picking Song and Denilson until they have a good game togethor and he’ll say I told you so.

  5. patthegooner

Not that confident today at all, and why would I be after the last week. I thought that they would feel ashamed and come out all guns blazing against a poor braga team yet complacency and a cant be fucked attitude saw another calamatous and embarrasing display

desptie being shit, Kosser will come back in for the improving Djourou. Clichy faces a late fitness test and in Wenger’s eyes a half fit Clichy is still french so gets the nod over the superior Gibbs.

our Midfield 3 will include Denilson and Song, and I expect Denilson to continue his form of being responsible for at least one goal a game. Personally I would like to see us revert to 4 in midfield today and play

Theo, Song, Nasri, Arshavin with RVP and Chamakh up front.

Thank fuck Diaby is out, otherwise it would have been Song, Denilson and Diaby!!!!!

We will once again play with one striker though, have plenty of possesion and score the odd goal but probably lose.

    Wenger will go with

    Sagna, Squi, Kosser, Clichy
    Song, Denilson, Nasri
    Theo, Arshavin

  6. patthegooner

Denilson will be that shit for that long for us, he will end qualifying to have a testimonial.

I doubt any fucker will go though.

  7. Mark c

Denilson should not play ever for

He should be on loan at Barnet

Expect to see almumia be in the squad today which is so wrong.

  8. patthegooner

I thought that Choy but cant remember when it was.

I am sure Cesc picked up a silly card to ensure he was suspended prior to the knockout stages.

    Might be wrong though.

  9. Raif

    Here here!!!

Or knowing our current luck this might be the end of our good away run, as let’s face it we are in a run if bad form

  10. The BearMan

What Arsenal needs is to find their MOJO back. The boys are playing scary football again. The Premiership is there for the taking, but we have lost our spunk!

One word I want Arsene to remember to say in French – DEFENCE!

And to repeat the same AGAIN at half time:

  11. BigRed1

Keep Ashley Young quiet and we`ll keep Villa quiet, he thrives on players like Theo and Clichy constantly giving the ball away upfield, so play Rosicky instead of Theo.

  12. LAzer

Not that I am defending Wenger but he usually has an answer to whatever he is asked. He just gave his opinion on RM as did Twitchy. But you don’t hear any spuds talking shit about their manager for giving an opinionated answer to a question. Just saying.

  13. Raif

These are moments were our style of play isn’t enough, so learning how to win ugly is key, seems were still learning how to how to do that when our backs are up against the wall

    “In Arsene we Rust”

  14. reggie 57

Just come back from the gym Sausage, egg, bacon’beans’tomatoes’fried slice work’s a treat get’s me fit and raring to go!!!
    C’Mon you Gunner’s!!!!!!

  15. Namibiangooner

Denilson is very poor. Just watched the highlight of how he led bale run past him while he just strolling. It’s mistakes like that cost us games.

  16. vinnyjones

we need to hire keown back as a defensive coach. there is no urgency from our lads when we get caught out.defense wins championships in any code.

  17. george lambrou

18 Oct, Crystal Palace, Away. Drew, 0-0
26 Oct, Aston Villa, Home. Drew, 0-0
1 Nov, Derby County, Away. Lost, 0-3
    9 Nov, Manchester U, Home. Won 3-2
    22 Nov, Sheffield W, Away. Lost 0-2
30 Nov, Liverpool, Home. Lost 0-1
    6 Dec, Newcastle U, Away. Won 1-0
    13 Dec. Blackburn R, Home. Lost 1-3
Just in case that stretch of results is a bit numbing here’s the summary. We won 2, drew 2, lost four.

You might already know when this was, but in case not, here’s another hint. In the third round of the FA Cup we got Port Vale. Our full first team was playing, and we drew 0-0. In the replay we went out on penalties after extra time.

    Have you got it yet?

The season was 1997/98, and if you know your history you will know that that was a year in which we really didn’t do much, except that we… well… won the double.

That season we played 38, won 23, lost six and drew nine. We won the league by five points. An in case you don’t believe me about the Port Vale thing, our team in the 0-0 draw was Seaman, Grimandi, Keown, Bould, Winterburn, Parlour, Vieira, Petit, Overmars, Anelka, Bergkamp.

Shall I just do a bit of that again? Parlour, Vieira, Petit, Overmars, Anelka, Bergkamp.

I have to admit that team took me by surprise. I idolise those players, their genius, their ability, the joys they gave me, their everything. And they drew 0-0 with Port Vale, and just managed to win the replay on penalties.

Now there is a point in this, apart from trying to point out the silliness of the comments on Untold today. If you are calling for the evaporation of the manager it is not a bad idea to have some real live facts ready.

In fact if we go back to 2000-1 Man U won the league losing 8 games. Go back to the 1950s and 1960s (significant as the last era in which Tottenham won the league) and losing up to 11 games a season was not unusual for the winning team.

    My point here is twofold.

  18. ethangunner

I have no problems with our team losing if we have given our best.
yes well at least you wont be disappointed, based on the past 6 years of winning fuck all i should image you’ll get what you want for Christmas !

.. i however want silverware , i expect a bit more given our long distant past ….

but sadly i doubt we will see another MAJOR trophy whilst wenger’s at the helm …

or the current board of dicks incharge.

  19. incesc

cant call this game at all.

villa have a lot of injuries, but are very good on the counter.

i hope we at least see some passion and fight

  20. Jaguar reloaded

    Big Dave

Five years back,we didnt have Denilson and Song in our side mate

However,I get where you are coming from.

  21. A

Impressive going regarding Denilson Big Dave, calling it a year before he signed for us….

He’s not actually signing till January incesc, similar to our Wellington Silva deal, although for different reasons.

Lindegaard seems highly rated by some but Schmeichel said he isn’t good enough for utd so we’ll have to see

  22. ethangunner

Well A your also a guru of prediction ..
when you said dudu would be the EPL top scorer last season ..

    oh thats right ..

    It didnt fuckin happen 🙂

  23. A

lol yeah i definitely said that ethan. when was eduardo ever going to be top scorer in the league?! especially in 4-3-3, he was never going to be more than an impact sub.

i think you must’ve gotten me mixed up with someone else

  24. ethangunner

still our lack of clinical finishing is neglected, and hi-lights our defensive frailties, Arsenal under wenger has always been score more than the opposition.

To put it simple we score less hi-lighting how lame our defense IS ….

I said 2 seasons ago as good as RVP is , we should sell the cunt , no point in him playing 1 in 5 games for us .

spend the wages on a FULL TIME striker …

but then i suppose if you sell him youll never replace him anyhoo….

it would be back to playing on 2 dollar tables at the transfer roulette table .

    its a conundrum…

  25. ethangunner

incesc yes he did say that too …

but im sure conveniently he …forgets .
    A says:

lol yeah i definitely said that ethan.

YES YOU DID SAY IT , last pre season …

when i said sell him and RVP ….

  26. incesc

    A says:

Bischoff is going to be a better player than Thierry Henry one day, he has all the ingredients.

  27. A

lol incesc, nah i didn’t, and you know full well i didn’t.

ethan i was never sure about eduardo, with him i was never a huge fan, certainly wouldn’t have ever expected him to be top scorer in the league. all i ever pointed out was that he was very clinical – he had the best shots to goals ratio out of any player at any top club in europe in the season before he broke his leg.

he would’ve been a very good squad player, but was never going to be a great player or nailed on starter for us, let alone top scorer

  28. CedarBayDave

Of course, I will be a fan no mater what happens today, but if The Arsenal crush my heart again, I will have to be a much more passive fan for a while. 🙁 I just can’t take the sorrow from putting all I have behind such a horrific lack of class.

  29. Dobbi

Come on boys, win this one and we go top of the league. That will go some way towards easing the pain from the past week. 3-1 to the Arsenal!

  30. incesc

vela on his way out. Not a big surprise.

“The truth is that there are several senior European teams in different leagues who are interested and he already possesses a EU passport so don’t be surprised if he leaves Arsenal.

But, everything has been kept quiet because this is how things are done in European football but for sure is that Carlos is seeking other options because he wants to play.

He’s not playing much and that’s the worst thing that can happen to a player, that he is not considered an asset in the team.”

  31. A

Agreed incesc, an Arsenal win along with Utd failing to beat Blackburn would leave us top of the league overnight at least – would be a nice pick-me-up

  32. A

Vela should head out on loan at xmas, especially with Wellington Silva arriving and he can fill that role. Vela on loan to Fulham would be ideal, along with JET on loan to West Brom

  33. soulrebel

Wenger was asked what he thought of the Madrid scam by an interviewer and he responded with an answer you’d expect from a manager against foul play.

Less time spent backing the arrogant, cash wielding mourinho over our own manager would be a step forward.

  34. A

yeah i think he can incesc, especially in 4-3-3….

depends on whether it’s primarily his attitude or the injuries/international duty that’s stunted his development, and he needs games to get his confidence and spark back

  35. incesc

i must say i tend to agree soulrebel.

its one thing gooners having a go at wenger but if some cunt like moronhole starts we should be defending him

  36. incesc

i just think he would be better in a 442 playing off van persie.

hes not big enough for the middle role in 442 and hes not exactly a great winger

  37. A

I see him as a wide forward incesc, imo it should be his best position, scoring goals from out wide, similar to Theo on the right. He’s always performed best in that position for Mexico, and where he played for Osasuna etc. Just needs games to get his confidence back, gotta say I expected much more from him this season but he really hasn’t kicked on.

Agree about his not being suited for the central role though

  38. alex

    Kozzer starts ahead of Djourou!

    Bobby P starts against us!

    Sagna Koscielny Squillaci Clichy
    Rosicky Song Wilshere
    Nasri Chamakh Arshavin

Subs: Chesney, Djourou, Gibbs, Denilson, Walcott, RVP, Bendtner.

  39. soulrebel

Djourou deserves a start in IMO. If he and squillacci play then we actually have quite a tall pairing. Losing Kos means we lose athleticism though.

Sorry if this has already been asked but what is the latest on Verm?

  40. soulrebel

p.s. predictions? I’m going ballsy with a 1-2 win for the mighty Arse with another nail biting last 10 mins to hold on. (the holding on bit is where I need most balls).

  41. Goonerpower

I can’t imagine wenger just comin out with his statement, he will of been ask his opinion on the saga. He right about them not being kids though. For me this is the last season, if we don’t win somthing then we have to change, I’m sure I’m not the only one!!

  42. Erichero

Ah, so you’re all hiding this side of post-world…

Chesney on the bench, even though Almunia is fit. This is a landmark day friends.

Nice to see some creativity in midfield with one of Nasri and Rosicky taking Fab’s role. No Denilson.
