Arshavin admits he hasn’t scored a spectacular goal in years, but he is more effective.

by & filed under Uncategorized.

This is something that we always seem to do to our players, we sign them because they score wonderful goals and have tricks and flicks in abundance, then we make them pass the ball to death.

Remember the youtube clips of Nasri? He looked like a young George Best, then he joined us and although a nice player, he didn’t look like the Nasri in the youtube clips, now I always put that down to the different leagues, but after the Arshavin comments, I’m thinking maybe it’s the Arsenal style, and if so, why do we buy them in the first place?

I remember watching a young Martin Hayes make his debut under George Graham, 23 I think, we all said, cor who’s that winger, he’s good and what a shot, the bloke next to me said, ‘don’t worry son, George will beat that out of him’

Ha, ha, I say the same thing to Pedro if someone has a first time shot, remember Theo, he was scoring for fun at Southampton at 15, he joined us and then forgot where the goal is, yes I realise how tough our league is, but it now looks as though Theo has remembered what he used to do and the shots are coming back, it also looks like Nasri is doing what he did at Marseille again, so on that basis I hope that Andre has been watching, take on the shot more often Andre and it will happen.

The four at Liverpool were all pretty much run at hit, first time stuff, don’t think about it.

Chamakh has said how intense he finds training, the Premier league and English football, he said they play at 100mph and the ball never goes out of play, if it’s that hard, then why don’t England dominate football?

Talking of England, Gooner Defoe scored a hatrick and we beat Bulgaria 4 zip, good news for England, but I think that the FA and Umbro have got a massive cheek changing their kit again, especially after the world cup fiasco, they should give it away, not rip the fans off again, shame on you Brooking you greedy sod.

I know it’s boring without football, maybe it’s time to take a month off over Christmas and bung all the internationals in that period, if you are good enough you’ll play, if you’re not bothered you won’t, who cares anyway, these stupid little breaks are screwing up club football and if you’re like me, that’s the important one.

Have a great day Grovers, next weekend football’s coming home!

Yes. I haven’t seen A, around since the window shut either but I’m sure he’s about somewhere.

Its just like I told you A with the Matuidi situation. We weren’t going to get a keeper.
I really wish Arsense would lay off the c8nt sauce.

  2. David

There is obviously a direct relation between our ineptitude in the transfer market and ‘falling short’ in the league. Its a real shame because Wenger, I’m sorry Wengker would piss the league if he didn’t enjoy shooting himself in the foot so much

  3. pantsR2long

Word on the “Street” is that P. Diddy has declared his love for Arsenal. What is it with the Arsenal and famous Rappers?

  4. Bennyboy

Did anyone else notice rooney’s hatered of theo last night? Everything he did rooney throws his hands up, what a complete twat
Also arshavin had better work out whats not working quickly or he’ll definately be losing out to rosicky/ nasri and ramsey when he’s back and if that happens he’ll leave, the little russian is not one for sitting on the bench

  5. Bennyboy

Also with Chamakh looking pretty effective down the middle what about moving rvp back to the left a forward line of those two and theo on the right has a lot of goals in it

  6. Honest Bill

And we’re the gunners, which i can imagine that on American TV reports, that’s exactly what they would call us at every opportunity

  7. Stu

VP is at his best through the middle and definitely better than Chamakh so i see no reason to move VP out left to accomodate CHammy. It would be like playing Vermaelen at left back so we can play JD.

  8. Stu

I wonder where A is. He hasnt been on since the transfer window closed and his prediction of Schwarzer plus maybe another player didnt come true.

  9. Stu

I’ll keep the comments going for a while so.

I looked up Steven Defour yesterday to see what his stats were like and he’s only 5ft7 ffs. Captain of Standard liege, i thought he was gonna be big because i say a picture of him playing and he was taller than the opponent so assumed he was tall. 5 fucking foot 7? Thats smaller than Arshavin and he’s a CM. He would get destroyed in the prem.

But maybe not since he’s probably a tough player to make up for his lack of size.

  10. Stu

He has been touted as an eventual successor to Scholes at the mancs and even Liverpool were after him this summer apparently.

He must be good if both of them are after him.

  11. kev

if defour was much good hed have been snapped up long ago. well overrated id say. liege arent a major club by any means so a half decent bid would probably persuade them to part with him. lukkaku at anderlecht is only 17 or so and has scored a good few goals – hed be a better buy and has loads of time to get even better

  12. Stu

Well he is only 22 Kev. He has captained Liege to their first title in about 20 or 30 years (dont remember how long so thats probably wrong) and that team had Witsel, Fellaini and some other notable players who i’ve forgotten.

I wouldnt say he’s over rated because not many people know who he is to rate him in the first place.

  13. kev

well stu to be perfectly honest ive never seen the chap play so maybe i was a bit harsh but he is really highly rated so im very surprised he hasnt moved to a bigger club if hes that good. thats why id be wary of him

  17. zeus

Its never been more clear to me than Cesc’s comments today that he wants out but he is gonna be respectful about it.

Better pray Ramsey’s recovery goes well and he makes up ground on his improvement in super time (I feel like writing him off til next season) and the same for Nasri and Wilshere, cause he (Cesc) is surely off.

  18. Stu

I think Wilshere is a bit more diverse than Hleb. He can play in either wide positions, behind the forward as the main playmaker and now it seems he can do the job helping the DM cover the defence. Hleb was more of a dribbler who was great at holding onto the ball and creating space for others.

  19. zeus

Barca tried everything to get him but Arsenal told him he had to stay so he wasn’t gonna go against it.

Then he said it would be a “long” season with Arsenal.

Asked abut his future he said, who knows, but he is only focused on the present cuz he doesn’t want his level to fall from being distracted.

  20. kev

what comments zeus? very few players can be fully focused when theyve been subject to speculation like cesc has. ever since he came to the club hes been my favourite player but i feel his time here is at an end. trying to keep somebody who wants out is only gonna end badly

  21. Mayank

    Lightning not lightening.

Zeus, if he said ‘long’ season in the same tome as you’re implying then indeed he is being dis-respectful.

I think it’s another clever play on word by the Spanish media who’ve spent the summer portraying us as the evil club who won’t let Cesc’s DNA rejoin the mothership.

  22. zeus

    Cesc FΓ bregas
Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas admits Barcelona did all they could to prise him away this summer, but that he was told he had to stay put by the Gunners.

The Spanish ace has become a poster boy for the Catalans who, according to Sport, will sign him in 10 months.

But reflecting on the summer that has passed, the Gunners skipper said he was left with no choice but to stay at the Emirates Stadium as the transfer saga reached its conclusion.

“Barcelona made every effort to sign me, but Arsenal had told me to stay, which in no way I was going to refuse, and in the end I had to stay,” Cesc told Publico.

Fabregas believes that the season with Arsenal will be “a long one” but above all he wants to “be professional and give it everything”.

On his future away from the Emirates though, the playmaker observed he had not made a decision as he drew the line on Barcelona talk.

“What happens in the future? We’ll see,” he added. “I do not think of anything because if I think of the future it would not let me focus on the present and I would have a bad year

  23. sixx pac

I for one am getting fed up with Fabregas. And spare me the nonsense about his words being twisted by the Cunto de Espanyol media. He is not a child ffs.

  24. kev

pretty much how i feel sixx pac – he knows what he wants and its fairly obvious his heart is in barcelona. not letting him leave could come back and bite us in the ass!

  25. zeus

Like I said, lets just hope Ramsey and Wilshere show some Fabregas like improvement over the course of the coming season.

Ramsey even more so, I feel he is the closest Fabregas-like player we have in the squad.

  26. Mayank

Sixx, nothing against you dude, just the thought of someone having a wank while blogging here stayed with me. πŸ™‚

It’s best not to get sucked in the the media twisted crap once again.

  27. Nxt Gen Gooner

who do you think will be the direct replacement when fabregas leaves, ramsey, nasri, rosicky, wilshere or even arshavin?

does anyone know how ramsey’s injury is recovering

  28. zeus

    Nxt Gen

None of them. There is no like for like replacement for Fabregas out there. He and Xavi are equals in passing, but Xavi has never and will never score as many goals as Fabregas will over the course of a season.

We just have to hope that Ramsey, Wilshere and Nasri can form some sort of trident to do the job.

Ramsey in particular has the onus placed on his shoulder as I see Nasri more of a dribbler go anywhere he wants type while Wilshere is a behind the CF.

Ramsey is the only one with Cesc’s range of passing, though not as good and w/out Cesc’s speed of thought.

  29. sixx pac

I certainly think that can be developed zeus. Dont remember who said it but they said Ramsey will be the best mid in Europe in 4 yrs

  30. Stu

Fucking hell today is a slow day. Fucking international football!

But even so, here on a bad day is still better than most other blogs on a good day. πŸ˜€

  31. Nxt Gen Gooner

lets look at the immediate future then, bolton at home. im quite looking foward to my first game this season. i really hopes rosicky starts as i feel he has more than deserved it with his past performances for the club

  32. zeus

Lets hope so. It was probably Alan Davies that said that. We know he is made of stronger stuff mentally than Eduardo was, lets just hope the annoying niggling injuries don’t affect him like it has Diaby.

Ramsay is someone we need to be playing at least 90% of the time. Lets hope that none of the Arsenal physios are COMPLETELY in charge of his recovery. Have no faith in them at all.

Lets hope the Welsh FA has someone, anyone really on the job. By February he should be getting back into the groove, though he should be training in October.

A pity really, cuz with Cesc gone surely in the summer, ideally we would have loved him to have last season and this under his belt with increasing responsibility.

Your day will come Shawcross, English bastard.

  33. Stu

Ramsey was developing very well, very well indeed. If not for Shawcross he probably would have been a regular starter this season…but not a first choice starter obviously, he would have gotten 20-25 starts easily in all comps imo.

  34. Stu

The one with the outside of his boot at home or the one where he skipped past a player or 2 and scored with his left foot?

Not sure if the first was against Pompey though…but didnt he also score at home against pompey from a VP through ball by shooting to the left (keepers right?). Fuck, im getting confused here.

  35. sixx pac

the one where he just shrugged the ball of the player, danced through the midfield like he was Jesus walking on water and just slotted home past David James. Its the game where Song scored a header

  36. Stu

Ah..the one i mentioned with the outside if his foot was against Stoke, not pompey. Yeah the one with his left foot was great.

Watching that clip of him reminded me of the Olympiacos match when we lost away. How the fuck we lost is beyond me. We missed so many good chances and Bendtner wasnt even playing.

  37. incesc

its so bad right now i actually miss hansen and match of the day.

Ive had to watch x factor and ultimate big brother!

i will never moan when arsenal play bad again, its better than this

  38. zeus

Actually its not been too bad. For ages I’ve been trying to find the time to go watch Inception, til now its not playing in theaters any more.

I wanted so badly to watch it at a cinema but fook it, found it online in top quality. Quality movie that.

  39. incesc

inception is very good and and thats coming from a movie geek that usually watches obscure french porn and japanese torture stuff.

  40. incesc

boring as fuck until she starts cutting him up!

i have to say, if i was a woman sleeping with rooney, i would ask for a lot more than that!!

  41. incesc

if that rooney story is true and i doubt it:

fergi – get on with it, you earn $$$ lets beat chelsea

wenger – take some time off, we have denilson or eboue to fill in

  42. incesc

    that maybe unfair actually

arsene stood by rvp when him and his mates got arrested and robin paid her off so she said i wanted to sleep with RVP but not all his mates

  43. incesc

    just messing about

give a young man more money than they can spend, and make them gods…

its always going to go wrong

i do laugh that rooney went for a granny!

  50. incesc

ramsey has a lot to do to be a better player than cesc

    cesc won the world cup

ramsey is hugely talented but has a broken leg.

we need to wrap ramsey in cotton wool for 2 years and let him learn the game.

putting pressure on him to be cesc is not a good idea

    fuckin shwacross

FFS he is also our captain. Wenger all the time drunken?

  56. arsenal4ever

  59. pantsR2long

HaHa, sucked into Rooney the ugly Wanker. I always thought he was over rated as a player. Hopefully he gets torn to shreds and his footballing career shatters into tiny little pieces. I really hate him if you couldn’t tell.
