Song going for a Song, Babel on the radar and Nikki B get’s the boot, just not the one he wanted!

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Well, well, well, at last an offer for Alex Song, Galatasaray have come in with a £4million bid, I have always maintained that you can always see what a player is worth with who out there wants him, and what they want him for.

Now Barca coming in for Cesc at £29million is as silly a bid as I have ever seen, but for Galatasaray to bid £4million for Alex Song is that as silly? And if it is, that shows quite a gulf between the worth of those two players in the silly bid transfer market.

There’s no chance of Wenger selling Song Frank, but then there was no way I saw Wenger selling Cesc, so watch this space.

Babel wants out of Liverpool and we need a winger, is he good enough? I know a number of you think he’s rubbish, but so was Henry when he was at Juve, maybe Wenger could turn him into a player, I wouldn’t be upset, but I also wouldn’t be thrilled, but based on recent Wenger signings, he would almost be considered a Galactico.

So he won’t be coming!

I would also have Phil Jagielka from Everton, he is premiership quality and he would slot in nicely alongside Djourou or Vermaelen, regardless of what foot he kicks with, we seem to be obsessed with having too many left footed players, what difference does that make anyway, when most of our team has always been right footed.

Jagielka can also play as a defensive midfielder but is only 5’11” and I would like a big player in there for crosses, but if he’s all that’s on offer, I would prefer him to someone I haven’t seen, and maybe Wenger sees him as a DM.

Finally Nikki B didn’t get the golden boot, he and his mates got the ordinary boot, as a result he comes home early and should be fit for pre season training, Italy out as well, it would make my day if Spain got beaten by Chile, then the Cesc issue can finally be sorted.

Enjoy the games today Grovers, it will soon all be over and we’ll get our lives back. I know, abit BP’ish but it is the way I feel!

If you think we’re on the run,
We are the boys who will stop your little game.
We are the boys who will make you think again.
‘Cus who do you think you are kidding Mr. Hitler?
If you think old England’s done?

Mr. Brown goes off to town

But he comes home each evening
And he’s ready with his gun.

    So watch out Mr. Hitler
You have met your match in us.
If you think you can push us
We’re afraid you’ve missed the bus.

so who do you think you are kidding Mr. Hitler?

Morning, I do remember that we were interested in Babel before he joined liverpool. If I have got this right, I think he was told to wait one year and we would sign him but chose to go to liverpool instead of waiting for us. So there is history there, but I dont think that its gonna happen this time round.

  3. DeiseGooner

Wenger has Chamakh now. From what i remember Wenger saw Babel as a striker rather than a winger .. a la Henry. So i reckon its a non starter that one.

    Get Reina though!!! 🙂

  4. slimshady

Come on Geoff, we can’t really have a team full of Cesc value players now can we, not even R.Madrid have that, Don’t be so wild! Song is a good player, give him 2 years, half as much as Fab04 got, and he’ll be good. If NB52 gets time to prove himself I say Song deserves just the same.

    That aside, good morning everyone!

  5. Mark C

    Song for a song !!!

If song is worth 4 mill, how much is Denilson worth !!!

Any James Milner is worth 30 mill ??

    Yaya Toure 25 mill?

So he is 6 times better than Song ?? dont think so?

  6. sir henry norris

    Morning all,

Babel is shite, utter shite. This is not athletics this is football and Babel is not any good at it. I don’t subscribe to the TH14 comparis, as TH14 had half a brain and has a more expressive personality than Babel.

  7. Queen of Suburbia

The left fotted thing comes from comments Wenger and Mourinho have both made i think Geoff. They both have stated they prefer a southpaw and an orthodox at Centre Back for better balance.

  8. leon

i think cesc willfind that when he goes to barc he wont get anywere near the same amount playing time he will play but from the bench quite often just like spain he mearly a squad player its about hangling offer the fee at this point 35 mill and no less will raise arsenal attention but evon that is most likley not enough me i think if wants to leave let him go.i dought wenger willgo babel i think wenger will want someone proven and top class and so many players like that around also to get back to cesc there are so many top central midfielders around thesedays so in my view losing cesc would hurt but it wont kill the team at all.

i have no dought in my mind that wenger wants another cb but with sole not made in mind yet wenger will holding out hopes of keeping him

  9. Gbenga

Geoff, Shay Givens was bought by Man City for how much? and Craig Gordon by Sunderland for how much? Does that reflect the value of both?

  10. stonroy

Great post, is it by chance that the only two Arsenal players left in the world cup are the two only quality players we actually have…Oh and Vela but he’s injured.

  11. N7 Gooner

Not up for Babel – let’s just get some absolute top-draw central defenders and crack on with winning the league thanks!

  12. kelsey

I think the interview on RTE with Souness was very interesting – he’s putting England’s problems down to training and living at altitude, the daft thing is there seems to be some substance to it. There was an article in one of the papers about it as well – it seems it takes your body 3-4 weeks to get used to training at altitude and during that 3-4 week period you lose all your energy basically as a result of oxygen starvation. There after your body adapts, starts to recover and your energy levels are boosted dramatically – the problem is they’ve been there 4 weeks, so they are now at the lowest point, but should recover and be fighting fit for pre-season training back home !!!!!

You have to love the FA for fucking things up don’t you !

  13. wardo

“Finally Nikki B didn’t get the golden boot, he and his mates got the ordinary boot”

    very funny……lmfao

  14. Julian

What odds would I get on betting we get Cahill from Bolton? I think AW is after two CB’s. We know he is after Koscielny but he has also said that he wants a player with PL experience.

To anyone who is going to reply that you cant trust what Wenger says – you’ve already told us. A million times.

  15. MickyDidIt89

Much as I would like Hazard, I can’t see AW going for a similar player like Babel as it would be admitting his favourite love child, Theo, is utterly useless.

Fuck Babel, if you’re gonna buy a winger buy Hazard ffs!

thats what i thought when reading the post.

  17. Doublegooner

So Galatasaray value Song less than the house he’s just bought !

Modern football, ordinary/shit players live like kings at 22.

  18. jaygooner

I feel a Kevin Keegan rant coming on.. I would LOVE it really really LOVE it if Chile beat Spain today. Cesc could then come home. pick the bench splinters out of his arse, get his headed sorted without constant “come to Barca” dickheads on at him, realise The Mighty Arsenal are on the threshold of greatness, and understand that he is pivotal to this great clubs future. Captain of Arsenal or a bit player in a skint team that is going down the drain? I know what I would opt for. OOOH TO BE A GOONER

  19. Emmagunner

I honestly don’t get why Barca values cecs so lowly when he has got more goals and probaly assists than their whole midfielders combined (sure he has more than Xavi and Iniesta combined atleast) in less no of games. Xavi in my opinion has had only 1 season better than cecs in the past 3-4 seasons. Even then he had just very few no of assists and goals above that of Cecs and far more played more games. The stats may not always tell the true story of a player but for a creative midfilder assists and goals show their effectiveness not forgetting Cecs plays in a league where you have less time and space. I would rather have Cecs in my team than Xavi… Prices tag of player are determined by factors that don’t always say their true worth… If man city was to bid for cecs we would get an upwards of 50million. Barca live in a dreamland where d fact that we got him from them would make us sell him for peanuts… Barca was stupid enof to spend 40mil + Eto for Ibrahimovic in a team already winning top prizes and now re reluctant to spend on replacing a major figure of their setup that is even arguably better than what they have and ll definetly be better. Long may their dream continue atleast till Jack Wilshere is ready to take over. He definetly has a thing or two to learn from captain Fab. I am quite certain that Fab price tag will only keep increasing…. Win Win situation for us.

  20. chippy

One ought never to turn one’s back on a threatened danger and try to run away from it. If you do that, you will double the danger. But if you meet it promptly and without flinching, you will reduce the danger by half. Never run away from anything. Never!

“When I watched Spain keeper [Iker] Casillas concede in their opening game the other day against Switzerland I nearly broke the television screen. Just dive head first at the ball, you’re entitled to get hurt representing your country, instead he dived feet first at the player and then feet first again to retrieve the ball. The man is captain of his country, he was one of the goalkeepers I’ve always supported and in one minute he’d lost me. If you’re not prepared to get hurt for your country then you should not be playing for your country.”

fuck it, put him in goal with that attitude

  22. MickyDidIt89

Julian: if AW has said that about PL experience, then how about Schwarzer and Hangerland (already have an understanding) and Scott Parker?

  23. Rohan

“Where I think this World Cup has fallen down has been in the choice of one or two of the analysts. You have to remember that people are watching at home so to have Emmanuel Adebayor on the BBC panel has almost bemused me. He’s a lovely guy and I think he can express himself but you just pick up one word in five. I remember when I started and used to receive letters about perfect diction! ”

    haha Bob Wilson.

  24. Arsene Nose Best

take the money ad run as fast as you can, seling song would be on par with the senderos exit,RUNNNNNN

  25. MickyDidIt89

Emma: I think Barca’s valuation is based more on the facts that perhaps they cannot afford to pay more for a player they really don’t need YET, and that they also know only wants to play for them, thus Arsenal have a player that at some point wants to leave with only one destination.

  26. darrenchallis

With Song its just another example of a club looking at a player who has had no impact at the World Cup and valuing them accordingly, ie trying it on with the offer.

  27. Rohan

Does Paul Le Guen have something against Song because whoever played yesterday in midfield against them had the passing ability of an elephant.

  28. Arsenal Tom

“I won’t think about anything until after the World Cup,” Fabregas told Ona FM.

“It won’t be a problem if I return to Barcelona because Barca is my home. The people there are always sensational in the way they treat me.”

Fabregas also expressed his admiration for Guardiola, who was a stalwart in the Barcelona midfield before becoming the club’s coach.

He added: “Guardiola has always been my idol since childhood. I played in his position and I noticed him.

“My coach even gave me a shirt signed by him.”

However, Fabregas was also quick to praise his current manager – Arsene Wenger – for the role he has played in helping him become one of the game’s leading players.

“He means everything to me. He is the person who put his trust in me,” said Fabregas.

“Without him, I don’t know if I would be a professional footballer today. I owe him a lot and I have a special affection for him.”

  29. MickyDidIt89

Sell Song and promote Denilson to first choice DM. Genius. Oh and I wonder who you could get for £4m, oh yes, no-one.

  30. Gooby

milner is worth £30m that is even more of a joke.

denison is worth a bag of peanuts in my humble opinion, following the logic of course!!!

    🙄

  31. chippy

    Stonroy,

Spot on mate and sadly they are changing for the worse,

Whats with the German love in !! No wonder Most of Europe surrended they all wanted to be clost Krauts lol 🙂

  32. Stu

How recent are those Cesc Guardiola comments because im fairly certain he said the exact same thing back when Guardiola first became Barca first team manager.

  33. Gooby

vermy, RvP are captain material, not cesc.

i wonder when will have an English gunner in the squad to be our captain.

i don’t need your DNA cesc!

what a hilarious day it could be if spain goes out, fucking legendary. i wonder if xavi would come out with genetics issues.

  34. Arsenal Tom

germany dont look all that good, they smashed a shocking 10 man aussie team, lost to the serbs and looked average against ghana

  35. Stu

Even less imo ATom. Milner is a hard worker with 2 decent feet without having 1 great one imo. No chance he is worth 10m (to an international market), let alone 30m ffs!

His price is definately only so high because he is english, young(ish) and seen as a great player.

  36. Stu

Khadira isnt even furst choice for Germany. He is only playing because Ballack and Rolfes are both injured.

Now that Schweinstiger is supposedly injured Germany have noone else left to play DM (I think).

  37. MickyDidIt89

Chippy: most on here after the German fanciers, are Oranje fans. Now Holland must be the dullest country on earth. I hate their loved up orange fans.

  38. Richaldo

4 Million for Song???!!!! Taking the fucking piss mate

we’ve spent that on his training alone….. tell the turks to stick their kebabs up their arse!

  39. Gooner4Life10

Cesc is starting to annoy me each and everyday. I don’t know why everyone is trying to make him look like his done nothing wrong but this guy is just the same as AdeTheWhore. I’ve lost all my love for him.

  40. Stu

Wonder is Cesc will be stripped of the armband IF he stays and who will get it instead. RVP cant last long enough to warrent getting it and we have no other obvious candidates imo. Vermaelen being too new to be fulltime captain imo.

  41. Arsene Nose Best

it’s a german lovein because that england team are full of cunts, once they get rid of the chavs from that team all the better, untill then they can fuck off, come on ze germans…….

  42. Rohan

Song is defo worth atleast 10 million. Anything less is an absolute outrage. He is easily in the top 5 DM’s in the premiership and in the top 15 in the world.

  43. Arsenal Tom

4m for song is a fucking joke, he’s by no means the greatest player but 4m?

    fucking fuck the fuck off.

if song goes denilson plays DM all year long! that fact alone make his value about 90m

  44. Queen of Suburbia

BBK you really are quite barking! Actually make me proper laugh…I’m convinced you are doing some sort of study into extreme human behaviour! Nobody can really hate EVERTHING as much as you do!

  45. Arsene Nose Best

q.o.s it’s not that i hate everything it’s just i hate the way the club has gone that’s all,how are you doing today my lovely????

4 million for Song????Frank must be kidding.I equally can’t wait to see spain booted out.Come on chile…

    ANB,

Yes the side is full of cunts but the 80k + Fans that have yet again travelled around the globe to support our country finally deserve to see us win something,

    Mickey,
Nah they carnt be dutch they hate the Germans more than us !!

Achtung Achtung Rudi Voller is a Cunt 🙂

QOS, I totally resent you saying tribalfootball isn’t serious media.

They get all the transfer stories right… because they report on ALL transfer stories.

    Bang on I say…

Mind you, aren’t you the Lady who stated her love for John Cross… is the Mirror classed as serious media nowadays? 😉

  49. SongtheGreat

    mornin all…

    feck cesc…and if Song is worth 4M…i had the pleasure of watching some great English talent the other day….take Barry…he must be worth what..2-3 pennies what a feckin joke of a player…and Milner wasnt far behind….nope ..without foreign players..the premier would be a laughing stock..fact ;

  50. Pedro

AT, Geoff blatantly mocked up some Gala headed paper and faxed the bid to Arsenal just so he could write the story…

  51. MickyDidIt89

The season before Flamini had a great season, he was average, but improving. Rather like Song may be doing. Why people are so keen to get rid of him ahead of those who show no sign of improving, like Theo, Rosicky, Nasri and Denilson, is totally beyond me. Many Song slaters were begging him to get back from ACN.
Get stuck into each other, and also try and have a nice day. Chile and Switzerland to win. Bye.

Dont insult Peanuts, they are a rich source of protein, which is completely worth and important for our living, unlike denilson…

  53. Man

I think folks are taking Geoff’s Song jibe too seriously…I remember Geoff putting Song ahead of some of his favs in picking a team. Geoff actually loves Song he’s just got a funny way of showing it

  54. Sabeel Indian Gunner

    Stu

All arsenal fans are FORCED to love song last season, because we didnt have any better player in squad for his role…
It is becos of THIS reason,we all HAD TO DO PRAYERS for song,so that he would do good..

  55. drona

I have no reason to get into your good or bad books Pedro. I mainly read your blog but comment on them very rarely.

But I would like to make a point about the BP oil spill. The BP Oil spill was the fault of the management. But why on earth did the British Government not protest at the cancellation of dividend payout. Maybe they are pussies at the sight of Obama. The shareholders and pension funds are not to be blamed for this blow up. Why do they have to incur loss of dividend in this episode?

Little Johnny was getting bad grades in school. One day
he stepped up to the teacher’s desk, and announced, “I don’t want to scare you Miss Finch, but daddy says if I don’t get better grades… somebody is gonna get a spanking.”

  60. Queen of Suburbia

    Oh fuck it, i’ll bite.

You’re worng about Denilson. He’s a good player, some improving to do especially in tracking back but generally we are better with him in the side than without him.

  61. MickyDidIt89

SIG: Denilson is the current back up DM. You get rid of him first and then Song becomes No2, not the other way round. Right, really off.

  62. gambon

Song is a good, although annoyingly limited player, there is no way we would be considering selling him.

£4m in todays market is also a joke. For that they can have Mark Randall & Tom Watt.

  63. SongtheGreat

Sabeel….Gooners take care of eachother…no matter what ;….ill start looking for a nursing home ;…we wouldnt want to loose you…you have that cascarino understanding of the game..;priceless really..

    “Dead!” Yelled Little Johnny.

  65. BOOZY

LE GROVE IS CONSTANTLY TRYING TO REMIND US THAT SONG IS WORTHLESS.

WELL WATCHING THE WORLD CUP JUST CONFIRMS THAT

all the players which you guys keep recommending are just crap, except that toulalan guy.

veloso- cant even get a game in the world cup
    gourcuff- next zidane. yeah
kjaer- dont know what the hype is all about.
    cheilini- huffing and puffing
now babel- a hamburg player and ajax players are ahead in the pecking other.

WE DO HAVE SOME CRAP, such as denilson and sylvester.

BUT LETS LEARN TO APPRECIATE OUR PLAYERS.

    STARTING WITH SONG

  66. SongtheGreat

Summer was over and the teacher was asking the class about their holidays. She turned to little Johnny and asked what he did over the Summer.

“We visited my grandmother in Minneapolis, Minnesota,” he said.

“That sounds like an excellent vocabulary word,” the teacher
said, “Can you tell the class how you spell that?”

Little Johnny thought about it and said, “Come to think of
    it, we went to Iowa.”

  67. chippy

My mates were taking the piss out of a german guy on the train, making jokes about the War and stuff.

He looked at us and said, “You know, there really is no pleasure to be gained in boasting about winning two World Wars.”

How the fuck would he know?

  68. SongtheGreat

Sabeel if your such a big mourinho fan why dont just come clean and say it ;..

wow his teams are a beauty to watch…entertainment all the way ;…

  69. gambon

    Boozy

So youve watched one or 2 games and made your mind up about all these players?

You wouldve been shouting for us to sign Kleberson 8 years ago, remember how that worked out?

Infact going by your analysis in 1996 you wouldve said how shit Zidane was and that we should sign Karel Poborsky instead.

  70. chippy

I think these jokes about poor Robert Enke are awful.

He loved the german football team.

So much so that he laid his life on the line for them.

    —–
you can’t deny it, he was well trained!

  71. Cayndeh

Denilson isnt showing enough improvement considering the amount of time and opportunities given.

I would sooner play any number of the youth team who look like they give a shit and have a chance of being the sort of player we need. for that reason id take 4m for him but song was one of our best players last year (not most talented) 4mil doesnt get you a premier league quality player.

  72. SongtheGreat

Little Johnny was sitting in class doing math problems when his teacher picked him to answer a question:

“Johnny, if there were five birds sitting on a fence and you shot one with your gun, how many would be left ?” “None.”, replied Johnny. “’cause the rest would fly off.”

“The correct answer is four,” said the teacher. “But I like your thinking.”

Little Johnny said, “I have a question for you now. If there were three women eating ice cream cones in a shop, one licking her cone, the second biting her cone, and the third one sucking her cone, which one is married ?

Well,” said the teacher nervously, “I guess the one sucking her cone?”

“No,” said Little Johnny, “The one with the wedding ring on her finger. But I like the way you think!”

  73. SongtheGreat

Little Johnny walked into his dad’s bedroom one day only to catch him sitting on the side of his bed putting a condom onto his penis in preparation of sex with his wife.

Johnny’s father in attempt to hide his full erection with a condom on it, bent over as if to look under the bed.

Little Johnny asked curiously “Whatcha doin daddy?”

His father quickly replied, “I thought I saw a rat go underneath the bed, to which Little Johnny replied

    “Whatcha gonna do, f*@#% him?”

and that was the end of little Johnny …

    Have a great Weekend all Grovers…and Sabeel mate..its all opinions in the end eh ? ;
