Do Watt you mug? Watt: the shining light! Watt’s red, white and in the next round?

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Sorry people, there are too many puns to get out there… you never know when you’ll get another chance when it’s the youth team. I can’t wait for Jet and Tom Cruise to get on the score sheet… the good times will truly roll when that happens!

So, I didn’t manage to find a stream, and due to work… I couldn’t get down to the ground with 56,000 other fans. It sounds like I missed a hard fought battle that we deservedly won in the end.

We all love to win Cups, and we’d all love to get our hands on the Carling Cup, but at the expense of the kids? Well… I’m not so sure… I reckon I’d only deviate from that position if it was the final. For most Gooners, Carling Cup day is one of the calender favourites… it’s like Academy open day… and today proved why we all love it. Sanchez Watt, Giles Sunu and Coquelin were all pretty new additions to the starting line up and all more than held there own against a very solid WBA.

Silvestre proved that he is still a rock in defence with a solid performance. Kerrea Gilbert proved he is more stubborn than mildew… we can’t give the bastard away! Oh, and Carlos Vela proved his worth once again, coming on to brighten things up in an attacking sense contributing to the 2-0 victory.

Chezney sounded like he put in a fabulous performance between the sticks with Wenger intimating that his performance was so good, he may consider him this weekend. Jerome Thomas proved why he now dons the colours of a team in the Championship with a bizarre slap on Jack Wilshere… what a plank. Wenger was asked in his press conference whether Wilshere had said anything to provoke Thomas to which he replied,

‘My eyes are bad, but my ears are even worse’

Pretty amusing stuff!

Sanchez Watt opened the scoring late on after Dean Kiely spilled a low Carlos Vela shot. It was good to see our all American rap superstar land himself on the score sheet… I think he has a lot of potential and he is certainly a more exciting English prospect than Jerome Thomas ever was.

Randall came on to much derision in the comments, only to make a mockery of them with a delightful chipped assist for Carlos (Via the cross bar of course). I don’t understand the anger towards him, is it because he is English and has a side parting… you dirty racists! Just kidding of course, who could not delight in that side parting…?

Even big Phil seemed to have a good game, going close for his first of the season on numerous occasions! Big Phil starts this season with a clean slate from me… I’m not a fan… he has potential, he teases us… then a big game arrives and it all goes to pot. However, for the sake of his confidence (if anyone reads the blogs it’s him), I am backing him for greatness!

So, through to the next round… where we might get some access to a feed. Carlos Vela for the first team anyone? For the love of God, what does the boy have to do to get a sniff!

Well, getting fit would be the first thing… Wenger said he isn’t ready for the Premiership yet… he also said that Theo is a wideman this year… so bad luck Theo!

Overall a very pleasing evening, good performances from all the kids and well ground out result. Keep them firmly crossed for a nice draw in the next round… because I think that team would struggle against a top ten team.

See you in the comments!

P.S. Wasn’t the commentary rubbish? I really don’t care if there isn’t an Arab version of the Arsenal website and I definitely don’t need to be told 50 times that the game will be shown in full, at 2200 (Because it wasn’t! See the goals here).

Pedro, I actually had a laugh about this Eboue’s Hand of God, because it was so ridiculously embarassing – then his reaction and the way he approached the ref: priceless…

  2. Pedro

Ray, I’m sure you’d be fine if you brushed passed someone in the street… they fell over clutching their face and you got nicked by the police for assault.

It’s pretty clear cut that if you get hit in the back of the head and you hold you your face… you are cheating.

If you don’t like the site, don’t click the link.

  3. SUGA3

BBK, that is harsh as both of them improved a lot, Song is OK and deserves rotation with another quality DM, Eboue is a cheat, but you cannot fault his workrate recently, can you?

  4. Pedro

That’s true Suga, I don’t wince when I see his name on the team sheet.

2 assists and a goal after 5 games… not bad going.

  5. nishanth

It will be interesting to see wenger’s lineup against fulham. We could see rosicky, arshavin, cesc and RVP in the starting lineup and it could be fucking exciting lineup

  6. nishanth

arshavin-given a 10 per cent chance of facing Wigan when Arsรจne Wenger spoke to Arsenal TV Online last week – did not play on Saturday. โ€œArshavin will be available next week,โ€ said the manager on Friday.

  7. nishanth

I would like to see arshavin take free kicks or if eduardo is on the pitch maybe him.RVP hasn’t scored one for 2 years now i think.

  8. B.B.K.

i think v.p should change his methods of taking a free kick rather then try and curl it think he should put his laces through the ball he’s got the power to get it up and over like ronaldo does

  9. Ray in SF

Thanks for the response Pedro…agree with your street scene example…and holding his face when the back of hie head was clobbered is, um, er, cheating!!

but, when a player is taking a little more than run-of-the-mill stick with the occasional shot to the head…well, what would Pedro do?

By the way, I love the site. Thank you and Geoff for your fine efforts.

Just feel that when the glass is three-quarters full, people could maybe enjoy things three-quarters of the time?

We beat a team that leads the championship and just thrashed the third team in the championship at their ground. A rough and sloppy game as WBA were very determined not to be Sheffield United-ed.

  10. SUGA3

I would rather have Wojtek in goal than Mannone, but there are pros and cons: much bigger pressure in the Prem, chasing temporarily top teams than in Carling Cup, but on the other hand defenders are just a notch better ๐Ÿ˜‰

Fulham play in Europe afterall and are no pushovers…

Can you believe that Dick at Bordeaux

18 Million Euros for a player in the last year of his contract. I am behind Wenger on that one. I think the 7m Euro offer was more than generous enough.

I reckon Chamakh will still be an Arsenal player this time next year.

  14. Ray in SF

    Patthe: thanks for the comment.

I misread it as 8 million the first time and wondered what all the fuss was about if Wenger offered 7. Doh.

  15. Pat

It took Cristiano Ronaldo just 120 seconds to break a Real Madrid record of being the first Los Blancos player to score in the first four straight La Liga games. CR9 made history by cutting in from the left and firing a low shot into the Villarreal near post. The Yellow Submarine were sunk in the 33rd minute as Gonzalo Rodriguez picked up his second yellow card for a rash challenge on Kaka.

  16. nishanth

We could do with someone line milito as our cf.And also if sagna and clichy had half of maicon’s ability when it comes to crossing

  17. Mayank

Just saw the Real match.. Few points
Pires is still class.. Real can’t dictate midfield play, Kaka look ordinary as he isn’t being given as much importance as he should.. Real may win the Liga if Barca slip up but against a hard defending side in the CL they’ll lose.. Also their defence is just about okay.. Seems weak through the centre..

  18. Mayank

I thought something like that would happen, as in players getting in each others way… but i thought Ronaldo might not have a free role considering the no of attacking players they have.. Will be interesting to see how they line up for CL away matches.. I’m sure we can do them..

  19. Mayank

Me too.. It’s amazing how much importance he’s being given at real… Ronaldo still lacks in his link up play and can’t ever be bothered to defend… Also his being a total cunt might be fogging my vision…

  20. Pat

Wolves had so many chances. What cunts, hope they get relegated. If that was against us, they’d probably take those chances.

  21. Maciek

Thanks Pat. Shame, their older players are playing as a unit and are better than we as a team. When I see Clownunia, Diaby and Denislon with Eboue the pass master, I want to cry. What a bunch of clowns.

  22. Maciek

I know it’s United, but aside from Da Silva twins and Fabio, do You rate any more players? Macheda is overrated but I have heard Welbeck is good. Is that true?

  23. Pat

Welbeck is good. Rafael is shit. Fabio is decent from what I’ve seen. Rafael can’t defend to save his life.

My friend tells me De Laet is a quality attacking fullback and he’s better than both Brazilians by today’s brief showing.

If they actually played all youth, that team would get slaughtered. They struggled with nani, valencia, Owen, Brown, Neville, Carrick playing

  24. Maciek

So, the “mighty” spuds have been played with Lennon in their squad? I’ve thought they had full of quality squad.LOL.

  25. Pat

reggie, are you mad? They’re going to play Ade, Tevez, Bellamy against the likes of Senderos, Gilbert, and Silvestre. No thank you.

  26. Pat

Its unbelievable how many games fat Frank averages throughout a season. He’s always around 60. he always fucking plays and scores last minute deflected goals.

  27. Pat

Vladimir Weiss has the potential to become POY. He plays for City and every time I’ve seen him, he’s been absolutely amazing. he came on when ET started and he’s already at the heart of everything City are creating

  28. A

choy – peterborough, barnsley, scunthorpe are in the 4th round, prem teams apart from that. I’d be very happy with any of those at home, though rather not posh as I want them to get further!

  29. Pat

WHy CHoy? I hope you noticed this is Fulham’s 2nd team. All of them actually, and City are still struggling.

This will have no effect on our game against them.

  30. A

Of course he won’t pat – that would be totally pointless! Any of the three championship teams at home and we’re laughing, they’re all footballing teams too rather than anti football types

  31. choy

my bad.. just saw the team sheet !

    Fulham
    12 Stockdale
    02 Kellyyellow card
    06 Baird
    22 Stoor
    26 Smalling
    07 Ki-Hyeon

    17 Riise
    27 Greening
29 Davies (Dikgacoi 71) yellow card
    21 Johnson (Elm 91)

Fulham have won only two and lost 12 of the 16 Premier League matches against Arsenal, but took four points against the Gunners last season without conceding a goal.

The Whites have won two of the last three meetings at Craven Cottage, but Arsenal have won away at Fulham more times than any other team.

Nicklas Bendtner has scored eight Premier League goals in 2009 – more than any other Arsenal player.

Arsenal have scored more headed goals (4) than any other side in the Premier League.

The last time Arsenal lost three Premier League away games in succession was in December 2006 and the third of those defeats came at Craven Cottage.

Arsenal have scored 17 goals in five games, only in 2004-05 had they started the season scoring at a faster rate (19).

But the Gunners have never before in the Premier League era conceded eight goals from their opening five matches.

No-one in the Premier League has hit more shots without scoring than Clint Dempsey this season, 16.

25% of the goals Arsenal have conceded in the league this season have been own goals.

Fulham and Arsenal have scored eight long range goals (three and five respectively) this season, both more than any other side.

Herschel Sanchez Watt โ€“ watt a sweet name this is ๐Ÿ˜‰
    ———————————
true no doubt he will be a star , but i dont think he’s ready against the big teams . and those are the players we are screaming out for ..

i think wenger has stunted rambo – jack and vela

if he had done to the what he did to song and denilson , we probably would have a team to be proud of by now , apart for a clinical striker and 1st class keeper ..

  34. ethangunner

Surely if wengers only tactic is to buy them young , and then is hell bent on playing them every week until they turn good , it isnt much of a tactic really ?!

its more of a gamble ..
he should get some reasonable money for eboue – song – diaby – senderos – big Al – fish face ? 900k ?

just replace them with rambo – jack and vela and get the club moving in the right direction..

    FFS !

    sooner rather than later ..
because lets face it mark my words vela – jack and ramsey have a future with us and it shines .

so blood them asap if thats the way your run things wenger and get on with it FFS!

  35. ethangunner

then you can have JET – watts – bazerite -Coquelin-merida on the bench and things would look far better ..

i have no doubt in 2 or 3 years we could be right.
but if you lose C.L football you might lose half the squad also !

people wonder why im up tight about this club , i hope that has explained it !

    IN FULL !

because if we cant get top 4 this season we will lose Cesc , and others will follow ..

  36. Honest Bill

I think Cesc will be out next season regardless.

But as for the young players, Wenger has alluded to the belief that he has been overdoing it with blooding the young players and over-using them too soon. So don’t expect to see Jack or Ramsey play many games yet.

  37. A

end of next season is the earliest I see any chance of him going HB, before then he wouldn’t get in the team, he’ll go in 2 or 3 years when xavi is coming towards the end of his career and take over his mantle.

Wilshere was certainly rushed through a bit fast, though it was most likely more training regularly with the first team at the age of 16 than his sparing appearances on the pitch that really took it out of him.

Ramsey though will get more and more games this season I reckon. Vela could be a big player for us too, in 2/3 weeks we’re gonna have scary competition for places in the front three, guessing VP and Arshavin have a nailed on first team place, it leaves another 4 players battling for the last place, so whichever one gets it, there will be 3 of Eduardo, Bendtner, Theo, Vela not in the team, or all 4 if Rosicky is played there rather than in midfield!

  38. Honest Bill

I certainly hope to see more of Vela. He has skill and pace in abundance and, even more crucially, doesn’t seem to be lacking confidence. Which i feel is lacking in many of our players.

  39. A

yeah i hope to see alot of him too HB, couple of weeks for him to regain his full fitness, then he should be involved a great deal, hell of a lot of options to choose from.

  40. A

speaking of vela’s fitness actually – i thought he seemed to be limping towards the end of the game yesterday, hope it isn’t a recurrence of his ankle injury.

  41. LAzer

    A. rinse your hands off and don’t think such things please!! I hope to god it isn’t either. Would really like to FINALLY see him make an impace with the big boys.

  42. LAzer

Cesc will stay if we win something I think…but let me just whisper this gently, we may be alright without him in a year or two as well with the emergence of Jack and Merida..

Of course my wish would be to have him stay for another 5 yrs but I think everytime you see him play for Spain or visit there a little bit of his heart is set on going back home.

I don’t think you can compare the development if Song and Denilson to that of Ramsey and Jack. Well, you can’t expect them to be in teh same place yet. Wilshire is 4 years younger.

If in 4 years he’s not a first team regular, then maybe there is a case to answer but not yet.

true but im sure if given the chance ‘quality players’ like jack – rambo and vela will get there far quicker , and if they dont for the sake of playing song – diaby – denilson and eboue every week , they might start head turning to other clubs .. i think its a well known fact most players wont stay there whole life with 1 club ..

So the sooner we make the quality youngsters , starters and give the average ones the flick the sooner this team can settle down ..

i dont think wenger has a clue currently !~

  48. ethangunner

the fact remains no player gets better by getting older …

like song and denilson if you dont play them , they will NEVER advance .. not to there full potential ..

song and denilson have got better by wengers continual persistence with them ..

wenger wont bring better players in so the only way we can fill the team with quality is play the ONES WITH QUALITY !

    simple
