Losing in the semis, what’s the best cure? Watching someone else lose in the semi’s!

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Well we lost in the semis to the Mancs and I was so angry and upset it was best for me to stay off of Le Grove for a day in case I said something I regretted, so what’s the best way to get me back? Watching someone else lose the semi’s in the same competition, well as I left the Arsenal game after their 3rd goal went in on Tuesday, I received a predictable text for a chav, well I didn’t have to wait too long to send one back did I!

What was so funny was Barca scored in injury time and fat Franks cousin, Jamie and ex spud Souness were beside themselves for 3 penalty shouts, I have to say though Gullit could barely hide his glee that Barca were through.

I was so, so happy that the super rich team of stinking chav bitches got dumped out, it was Karma, I just hope that Barca beat the Mancs and Everton win the FA cup, that will really make the pain go away.

The big problem is though, we could have been in both finals but we weren’t because we weren’t good enough with the players we have, if Arsene Wenger continues with this crazy experiment we will be lucky to finish 4th next season.

We didn’t just lose to the Mancs, we were humiliated, we were so bad we made them look good and that for me is unacceptable, Wenger saying he felt bad is bollocks, he picks the team and buys the players, it’s down to him and if he doesn’t watch it, we’ll be another mid table team that no one remembers.

I broke one of my rules yesterday and read some of the other blogs. One blog actually praised the side and Wenger’s policy, I thought this guy cannot be an Arsenal fan, surely he just writing this with the sole intent of being balanced, not as a fan?

Anyone that is happy with our season and the job the manager has done simply cannot be as much of an Arsenal fan as me, I am hurting, I am hurting real bad, all I think about is Arsenal and this team wasn’t good enough last season, isn’t good enough this season and won’t be good enough next season. Anyone who is happy with what we have must be a loser. Trouble is I am an Arsenal fan for life, I can’t just switch off.

I said to Pedro the atmosphere at the Grove was the best I have ever seen, the Sun said it was great for 7 minutes, wankers, it was great way before kick off and even then until they scored we were great, then we were shocking and that has to be down to the fact we just don’t have the players the Mancs do, and if the manager can’t see that, he ought to get himself a job somewhere else.

I’m not calling for his head, far from it, I think Wenger is great, but this refusal to buy ready made players and his youth policy are killing our club, we have now had 4 seasons of nothing and for all those people that say ‘what? 2 semi’s, 21 unbeaten and 4th in the league, are you mad’ well if they all find that acceptable for what we pay, then their expectation’s are not in line with mine.

I read a comment on here that fateful night, and that person was more upset with the fans leaving than the result, that made me laugh, he was watching it on his telly, some of us were there and you know what, I was one of them and I left early.

I cannot believe that Kroenke has spent all this money to watch Wenger build a team of kids that can’t win a trophy, why would he do that? I now hope that someone tells him what his job is, and that he now goes back to doing what he did when he joined, buying great players and winning trophies.

The Chavs were unlucky last night but we weren’t, we were lucky to have been there in the first place, this team is not good enough and won’t be next season, we have players in the team that don’t want to be there, players in the team that shouldn’t be there and players in the team that aren’t good enough to play for a mid table team and if Arsene can’t see that then my arse is a kipper.

So I just hope that he now realises he was wrong and go out and buy 3 or 4 world class players in the summer, give us all a lift and you know what, he could sell at least 6 of his young players that we don’t need and raise some cash, the trouble is who will buy them, I wouldn’t.

It’s time to end this experiment. It’s not working and it won’t get better next year. Time to change.

Someone said yesterday they can’t understand how we keep writing this blog, well after Tuesday I have to agree, I was so disappointed I left the ground early and that can’t be right, I love the Arsenal, but I hate what’s happening to it.

When I got to the station there were as many people there as there was when I came in and that can’t be right, they were all real fans, none of them had suits on, the big problem we now face is so many young kids will turn to other teams, so what Wenger is doing will cause problems for Arsenal in years to come, kids either follow their dads or they follow success, I just hope there are a lot of dads out there that support Arsenal!

Have a great day Grovers, after watching the chavs lose last night I know I will!

    welcome to le grove gooner786..

myles is sort of an arse fan.. who claims to have inside knowledge about the club…

    anyways am off.. night all..

Let me try and categorize the players that we have.

The only two players we have who are truly world class are Arshavin and Gallas.

Then we have players who are good enough for first team football – Cesc, RvP, Eudardo, Nasri and Almunia. But all of them need backup, because they may not be good enough through the year.

There are some players who are good squad players but probably not good enough to start yet. Maybe they will grow into first team regulars. They are Vela, Theo, Toure, Sagna, Clichy, JD, Fabianski, Ramsey, Song, Denilson, NikB. THese players should probably get 8-10 first team appearances, but only off the bench.

Based on this, I have three comments/questions.

    1. We need at least one world class forward, winger, defender and goalkeeper. Two defenders if Gallas leaves.
    2. Cesc has to be reminded that he has to play well to be in the team. Take away his armband.
    3. Look at the amount of deadwood we are carrying. Shouldn’t we fire the lot of them and save some money?

Bang on target, Ethan! When we attack well, like we did against Boro or Pompey, we do incredibly well. But our midfield and forward line aren’t good enough against the big teams.

We need to strengthen at the front and at the back.

  4. Ja_Gunner

i say sell Ade…buy Sahko..and if Gallas leaves another CB..or get Senderos back.

Then buy an all action DM.

Maybe a right winger. Elia from Twente is a fast tricky player….or get Jay Simpson back…..cuz he played on the wing on loan.

    ………………….Al…………………..

    Sag/Eb……Kolo/New……Gal/New…..Clichy/Gibbs

    Nasri/Elia…Cesc/Abu…Song/Den/New…Arsh/Tom/Traore

    ………….Bent/RVP…..Eddy/Theo/Vela…..

    Wouldnt that be moe explosive?……

spot on .. your statement tells me we are
not top 2 material anymore , we have turned into an Everton ..

Scary when you put it like that isn’t it 🙂
    something must be done ..
and for hill-wood to offer arsene a new contract is like slapping fans in the face !

HAVE YOU HAD ENOUGH YET ? … well i got more 🙂
i will give you a new definition to the quote

    YEARS OF TORMENT 🙂

it only proves to me that i was right all along saying hill-wood only cares about the money made and cutting out the clubs expenditure on transfers, keep wenger and stay in the top 4 without spending a dime !

then the club have more free money to develop more of north London .. and don’t tell me some of that cash ain’t lining their pockets ..

    PDT,

Not exactly a clear out as there would be enough games for everyone. It seems silly to keep carrying a thin squad knowing our injury history.

    Ethan,

Our poor play is due to the manager presenting an unbalanced team. Theo should have started up front or on the left. Evra/Rooney did him in the first leg, I wonder why the boss still put him there. I would have played Eboue there and brought Theo as impact tbh.

Also the manager went for all out attack and no defensive balance to match long balls.

Add to that our zonal marking defense tactics rather than man marking. We let Ronney/Ronaldo too much space in our third, something our players were ot afforded.

We need to strenghten, but our losses have more or less been lack of imagination of our bench.

  7. Confidentgoner

Lets not forget that manu lost 4-1 at home to Liverpool, when Alex F, got his tactics wrong.

  8. Confidentgoner

Lets not forget that manu lost 4-1 at home to Liverpool, when Alex F, got his tactics wrong. To beat Manu, u need to overwhelm them in the mid and not allow Ronaldo to play. That means charging at them, running back and forth, defending and holding the ball well.

  9. A

so – arshavin not gonna start against chelsea again i guess if he’s had the flu this week – pretty annoying!!

  10. Confidentgoner

That is what we did the last time we beat them at the Emirates although we played 2 CDMs in that match.

  11. A

i agree confident – utd are very beatable. I disagree about ronaldo though – he’s been shit most of the season for them, certainly not integral to their overall game, rooney is far more important to snuff out in terms of that. We did them at the emirates early in the season, although the goals came pretty much out of nowhere we were very comfortable and didn’t let them play, they only got one consolation goal from a screamer.

i just really hope barca smash utd in the champs league final

  12. A

we didn’t play 2 cdms confident against utd did we – we played diaby as a second striker off bendtner, with cesc and denilson central midfield?

  13. A

what confident, the arshavin thing?? says it on arsenal.com – says wenger thinks he’ll be ok for sunday, but if he’s had the flu then i doubt he’d start

  14. A

Interesting ja – where you hear of him?? Though i’d imagine we’d have trouble with work permits in the uk with him being from ghana.

If we are to sign a DM, they need to be decent at worst on the ball, so any centre back/ supposed dm i’d be dubious about. Probably mainly because when i think of them i think of kompany, who in terms of his ability on the ball would never be able to play in midfield for us in a million years!!

there was a website that said about some 6 foot 5 romanian centre back, anyone know anything about him?

  15. A

who played then confident?? Diaby at dm?! surely not?! cesc didn’t play in an attacking role until after he came back from injury did he, so surely he was alongside denilson with diaby supporting bendtner?

  16. Confidentgoner

    Song , Dennilson played.

Thing is you need mid field /defensive balance against the top teams who are more deadly at the last 3rd. Think about it, manu played us with no strikers, well only Ronaldo. Rooney played a striker/mid field role. Their strategy was to soak and counter.

We shold have strenghted our mid whilst still attacking. My team would have been.

    Al

    Sagna Toure Djorou Gibbs

    Eboue Cesc Song Denilson

    Nasri Ade

This way you protect your left, back and centre whilst still attacking.

  17. Ja_Gunner

I saw his name here……I just threw it out there.

Maybe we should try to get Flamini back or someone like him..so that we would have 3 diff types of DM.

    Lets trade Ade for him.

    Denilson……good reader of the game/intercepter
Song……….strong, good in the air, bully
    Flam/new……all action

  18. Confidentgoner

  19. Confidentgoner

Mr. Wenger is not a good tactician as has been hyped. We loose matches we shoulnt loose

  20. Ja_Gunner

It maybe harsh but the way we play….we need at least one good attacking fullback(with end product)

Eboue attacks well..but no end product.

Therefore, maybe we need to get rid of Clichy and get Zhirkov.

I dont think we would buy Zhirkov for the left wing because..Wneger will use Arsh/Rosicky there.

I dont know of any good attacking RBs really..two of the best are already taken….Dani Alves and Maicon.

So that is why I suggest Zhirkov…..the Russain Ronaldinho.

  21. Confidentgoner

A, in the EPL match, Nasri, played through his teeth. Going back to help and rushing foward. besides, manU came to win, not to counter attack, so we had spaces to exploit.

You have to as a coach, think to netralize your opponents tactics by playing to your strenghts. Eboue playing would have given defensive balance, plus we have free kicks in good areas. lets face it he is good going foward.

Gibbs would have enjoyed some protection from Dennilson and Cesc would have played better. We attacked from the first minute, but it took only one long ball to unsettle us. It shows what we are lacking defensively

  22. Confidentgoner

I also don’t think Kolo is a leader at the back. He needs a trong defender to be good. He should have been on Ronaldo’s case from start, although Wenger prefers zonal marking to man to man

  23. Confidentgoner

Taking our defensive frailties into consideration, we can play this team against chelsea.

    Al

    Eboue Toure Djorou Sagna

    Nasri Cesc Song Gibbs

    Ashravin Bentner

Diaby is due a good performance based on his random exquisite performance, so I will throw him in at 70mins.

    ————————————————-
our bench is non -existent .
we have 7 players on there that wenger will not or does not feel comfortable using .

our defensive frailties are brought about by us not scoring enough and putting pressure on the other team .. thats why so many average teams rolled us this season .. we could not put the game to bed in the 1st half and with a weak midfield like even ade has suggested yesterday we put more pressure on our defenders ..

we cannot hold onto the ball anymore , there is no ball retention , and once cesc is out of the midfield we are totally ineffective .

its easy to blame the defense because at the end of the day they are accountable for stopping goals !

but if we preformed better up front we would
stop other teams from pushing forward .
because it would be them that have to absorb attack after attack . not us !

    .

    Good morning,
The following is from a journalist on the daily mirror.i have no allegence to any tabloid, but this is quite factual and also about the way many of us feel.

It is hard to believe that the same player could have said such contrasting things within the space of 24 hours.

Yes, we’re back to my current pet topic: Emmanuel Adebayor.

On Tuesday: “I often speak to Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani on the phone because he is very good at French as his wife is from Morocco,” Adebayor told Italian newspaper Tuttosport. “Galliani may not be as sexy as Beyonce, but Milan are.

“For now I just want to finish the season on a high, but then we will see. My agent Stephane Courbis is in London with his Italian associate Vincenzo Morabito and they are always working day and night.”

On Tuesday night: “Arsenal put me where I am today, They made me one of the biggest strikers in the world. I have to pay them back.

“How am I going to pay them back? Make them win trophies. Thats what I am here for and I have to fight for that. Next season, 100 per cent, I am an Arsenal footballer.”

Forgive me if I don’t believe a word that comes out of Adebayor’s mouth.

On Monday, on the eve of Arsenal’s Champions League semi final, Adebayor is talking to an Italian newspaper about his future and the piece appears in Tuttosport on Tuesday.

On Tuesday night after the game and flanked by an Arsenal press officer, Adebayor says quite the opposite.

It reminds me of last summer when Adebayor categorically denied he was ready to leave Arsenal after stories appeared claiming that he wanted a huge new contract and wages to match Thierry Henry’s £100,000-a-week contract before he left to join Barcelona.

All the time Adebayor was giving interviews to foreign press confessing his love for Barcelona and AC Milan and was desperate to move to the San Siro.

Then the time Adebayor met Arsene Wenger at the Euros and told the Arsenal manager that he was committed – and then did a round of interviews at an adidas PR event the same day admitting he wanted out.

Normally the big-name player uses his get-out-of-jail-free card by blaming the press for making up stories.

This time, Adebayor got caught with his pants down and was jeered by the Arsenal fans in pre-season and at the start of the Premier League campaign.

Cristiano Ronaldo was also involved in an ugly protracted transfer tug-of-war last summer but Manchester United fans have long since forgiven him because he’s so damned good.

Sadly for Adebayor, this season has been a huge disappointment and his form has gone downhill ever since he signed a great big fat contract worth a whopping £80,000 a week.

Adebayor used to be one of the hardest working strikers in the Premier League. He was everywhere. This season, Adebayor has been lazy and he looks like a player who thinks he has made it.

Arsenal fans were outraged by Adebayor’s lacklustre performance at Old Trafford in the Champions League semi final first leg. His second leg performance wasn’t much better.

I got on the Tube to go to the game on Tuesday night and the two Arsenal fans sitting opposite me were slaughtering Adebayor, criticising his work rate, commitment and lack of goals.

But what is most upsetting for Arsenal is that in all of Wenger’s 13 years in charge of the club never has he improved a player more than Adebayor.

Adebayor arrived from Monaco in January 2006 for less than the £7m listed in many statistics books. I know this because Wenger was once asked about the fee and he was outraged, claiming they didn’t even pay half that.

He was hopeless. I remember saying at the time that Arsenal should have signed Dean Ashton as at least he could score. But after six months training alongside Henry and Wenger, Adebayor began to show real progress.

In his first full season he scored 12 goals. The next season he scored 30 goals and other clubs started taking notice. This season he has scored 16 goals but his work rate and commitment have been sorely lacking.

Adebayor is the worst kind of example of a foreign mercenary. He has come to Arsenal, Wenger made him into the player he is today and now he starts saying that AC Milan are such a big club, blah, blah, blah.

However, this is a problem that Arsenal have partly brought upon themselves.

They sign a lot of foreign players cheaply, don’t pay them huge contracts and then do not get the same loyalty they would expect from a home-grown player.

Mathieu Flamini joined Arsenal in 2004 and the Gunners only had to pay Marseille peanuts in compensation because he was not on a full professional contract at the French club.

Four years later, Flamini, by now a free agent, leaves Arsenal for AC Milan where he has struggled this season to get a regular first team place despite signing an £80,000-a-week contract.

But unfortunately if you live by the sword you die by the sword. Wenger criticised Flamini over his departure, but really what complaint can Arsenal have, having plucked him from Marseille in similar circumstances?

Of course there are exceptions to the rule. Cesc Fabregas joined Arsenal at 16 and has turned down numerous overtures from Spain already. Henry grew to love the club and remains fiercely loyal.

I think Adebayor will leave Arsenal this summer. It wouldn’t surprise me if before long we see another round of “I’m staying” interviews quickly followed by “Milan/Barcelona/Inter/Real Madrid are great clubs” interviews.

It really is becoming beyond a joke. To talk about AC Milan on the day of a Champions League semi final is so disrespectful.

Last March, Alex Hleb did something similar. The day before Arsenal played AC Milan in the Champions League in the San Siro, Hleb met Inter officials for an “ice cream.”

Hleb, of course, joined Barcelona last summer and has barely got a kick this season. He spent last year moaning about London. Now he’s making noises about coming back to the Premier League. No thanks, Alex.

This just all goes to show that the modern day footballer is out of touch with fans and are becoming increasingly mercenary and detached from real life.

  29. PDT

We have thousands of Wenger apologists who keep saying “Give him one more season”. I wonder what they think the standards of failure for Wenger should be set at.

What happens if he buys one 22 year old player in the summer? Is that a passing grade?

What if we lead the league through December but finish fourth by the end of the season. Is that a passing grade?

What if we struggle in the league and finish fourth, but win the Carling Cup. Is that a passing grade?

  30. PDT

The only man who can see clearly is Arsene. THe man has always been a genius and I think he knows that it is time for him to go now.

  31. iceman

Everyone here is quick to assume it’s gonna be he same old story.

What if he has finally got it and buys experience in the summer?

Let’s wait and see what pans out.

For starters we need to do some business with Meelan…..anything above 15m I’d jump for…..

Ask for Gourcuff and money maybe?

Sell Ade+Bend+Denilson = 35-40 millon (sorry but no physical presence) get Benzema(spell check please)40 Million.

    Cana for 10-15 mil

And 2 Bull for defenders..Play Nasri on the right.

    Evening all

Now the smoke is clearing/the dust is settling from the Tuesday debarcle, you know getting some big signings in would go a long way in making me happy.

Infact the thing that pisses most off about Mr Wenger is that he won’t buy 😉 , that is obvious I know but get in Ribery. Imagine the mayhem he could cause. As for Arswaxin, he could be huge, Bergkamp huge, so Arsenal should compliment him with some big signings IMO.

  34. dennisdamenace

Hello Kelsey – Good post fella, if we didn’t know it already, what an utter cunt Adebayor is, but how strange that The Mirror should be writing an article supporting us, very strange indeed……

  35. gnarleygeorge9

    Geoff

The African experiment is over, no offence to all the African Govers/Gooners. Wenger needs to turn his attention more easterly. Who is this geezer Kolodin for instance.

  36. iceman

I always thought AW would sign Ribery….it just felt natural….guess he assumed he had him and took his time….as he did with Babel….can you imagine if we had? Sigh.

  37. The Goon

Ebay is a good squad player Geoff..so keep him and sell the rest of the aficans..including kolo.promote from the juniors into the squad.

they get first team experince and we will have that no fear atttitude of a novoice.

  38. Duke

    Morning,
Agreed gnarley, we should be getting strong motherfuckers in now, who play in the rough leagues. Russians, Serbians, Croatians etc.
Kolodin is a 27 year old Russian CB international who is 6’1 and pretty fast, has a monster of a shot also.
We could also go for Zhirkov, but I think a lot of people are after him already, and we know we lose all our bidding wars. Was watching Shaktar and they have some Slovak called Hubschman who looks good and a Polak called Lewandowski who is huge.

  39. gnarleygeorge9

I’m really hanging out for a trophy, I must admit. I knew The Arsenal were also rans long ago, but I lived in hope that fate might shine on The Club. But it ain’t when you come up against a well oiled machine like manure.

So maybe, just maybe that horrific display the other day will actually be of long term benefit, coz there cannot be an Arsenal person who seriously believes things are hunky dory @ present 😉

  40. gnarleygeorge9

Cheers Duke, Kolodin I usually associated with the field where the English whipped the Scotts 😉 Probably different spelling like Mac Kolodin of something 🙂

Sell Ade for sure, i dont care if any other under performer is sold or not, but Ade has to go.

Sad thing is had we even won the FA cup we would have been in a much better position with respect to team stability. Now the rebuilding has to start again.

I really hope Ade is not a part of the rebuilding process. Dudu, Vela, Bendtner and one more buy/loan in front.

Selling Eboue is madness. That guy can cover up any part of the playing 11. A beast of a central midfielder is required, and of course at least 1 Center back.

3 buys + one sell minimum.

  43. gnarleygeorge9

On another note, apart from Arsenal, I will be hoping that Glasgow is painted Blue & White this weekend. My bro is a Hoop man so we are @ logger heads. I probably won’t lose too much sleep over it if the paddy side get up, but evo if you are about, Good luck mate, may the best team win, The Gers 🙂

  44. PDT

Just buy someone good – dont care where they are from so long as they are in the top 10 in their trade worldwide.

    Like Arshavin is.

  45. Franchise

ive said this several months ago and was accussed as being racist. too many foreign mercenaries at our club. the clubs lack of ambition has even made the situation worse. Ferdinand was bought for £27million in 2002 he’s been at OT for 7 years, does fergie fear he would loose Carrick, Rooney, Ferdianand etc. not at all. the other foreign players at OT are much happier cos the club is winning things and is arguably mmore successful on the pitch than the likes of real madrid, milan and barcelona. Really Arsene is a bigger problem than we can imagine

  46. gnarleygeorge9

    kenya

Thanks for not taking offence, but maybe Kalou; we won’t get Essien. Maybe, in hindsight you should be scouting about down there for some new superstar, coz what we got ain’t working.

  47. Duke

ArsnealKenya, Kalou is shite, and we would never get Essien, also there is the African Nations Cup next season, and that would fuck us big time.

  48. PDT

And buying one player is not good enough. Neither is buying 2 or 3.

We need a minimum of four additional world class players. (Five is Gsllas leaves).

A 30 goal a season forward. (How it hurt watching TH14 screw Real!)

One fast winger who knows how to cross and doesn’t drift inwards….like Ribery!

One ugly midmiefder who can terrify the opposition.

    And a badass central defender.

  49. PDT

    Re Essien…

Our scouts found him first. But we dillied and we dallied about giving him a pro contract, so he went to France and Bastia and see where he is today.

  50. goonermichael

What we need and what we’ll get are 2 completely differeent things. 4 or 5 world class players? Ribery? Even if Wenger is sacked tommorrow and maureen the chequebook takes over it won’t happen.

    That’s my point, GM.

We are in for at least a couple of years of rebuilding. If we win something in that period, its a bonus.

So we might as well get a young coach who will carry on the good work that Arsene has done at the club and kick Le Prof upstairs.

We have a game this sunday and some of the directors will be at Emirates watching this game…

Why can’t fans come out with Banners telling Gazidis and the board to buy these players please….

DAVID VILLA / DZENKO ( But i prefer Villa )

    LORIC CANA

    ALONSO/BARRY/BLAISE MATUIDI

We fans can then set up a fund and campaign to buy these players and let the management and board of directors know that we are not willing to reward failure for another season.

We have the most expensive season tickets at the moment, we will get additional cash from CL,EPL and our merchandize…..Where is all the money going to?

Don’t tell me it’s repaying the stadium debt?
