Who would you have tomorrow? 1 nil down 3-1 up.

by & filed under Uncategorized.

So one day to go, one day and ninety minutes away from the champions league final in Rome and it’s at home in front of 50 odd thousand Arsenal fans, me and Pedro included, we will never have a better chance than this, it really has 1989 written all over it doesn’t it? The anniversary, the playing the defending champions, the needing 2 goals, the drama, the fact that we are playing a team that no one gives us a chance against, it’s all there isn’t it???

So who will will play? I write this post today because it still gives the boss time to think about his selection, the only no-no’s are Eduardo, Rosicky, Gallas, fish head and Arshavin, so let’s pick our team shall we?

The team that beat Portsmouth almost got my vote, Pompey are no pushovers and that was an exciting side we had, but we will be playing the Mancs and they are better than them.

What stood out for me was the fact we looked strong at the back (mostly) and dominated the midfield. Eboue did look solid at the back, but he always does for me, but left back, that’s the first time I’ve seen him there and he was good and he made some good supportive runs as well.

Song partnered Djourou at the back and they both played well, Djourou has to be a shoe in there, maybe we should play Song just in front of them against the Mancs.

I thought Ramsey played a blinder, he really is going to be a Bryan Robson type player and I would take him over Denilson all day long, yes I know Arshavin said Denilson had a great game, but I am looking at a team to win on Tuesday and Denilson still gives the ball away too much for me.

Walcott played well and I think that Vela on the left is now a must, he gives us width and penetration and he’s not afraid to have a pop, he could be the ace in the pack.

Bendtner still has heart and can be a handful so he gets the nod for me up front and I would pick Robin, fit or not over Ade, Ade is a lazy arrogant bastard, but drop him, he may be better from the bench.

We need to win this by 2 clear or one and penalties, so we need 11 on the pitch that run their bollocks off, Ade only cares about Ade, yes he may play and score two goals, but on recent evidence he’ll be offside and do nothing, and in a match of this importance we cannot take that chance, Diaby should not get near the stadium, but apart from that, I would play the ones that want it most.

Sagna Kolo Djourou Gibbs/Eboue

Song/no one if 4-4-2

Walcott Cesc Nasri/Ramsey/Song Vela

Bendtner Robin the boy wonder

So the above depends on 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 but I would send them out to shut down every move, chase every ball, shoot on target, in short, overwhelm them, it doesn’t matter now, we have played our last game, injuries don’t count, the EPL doesn’t matter, the final is meaningless because if we don’t beat the Mancs, there won’t be one.

We can do this, we just need to send the keenest side out there, the team that beat Pompey were far better than the team that lost to the Mancs, individually they aren’t but who cares, I would sooner see us try and go out, than to play like we did with prima donna’s at Old Trafford.

Arsenal, this is it, this is our last chance for glory for another 1 year and 3 weeks.

make the most of it, do us proud.

Now Arsene, have at look at my selection and read some of the comments below, it may help!

Enjoy the holiday Grovers, tomorrow is our season in 90 minutes.

Lovedup, you would do well to steer clear of Sneijder. Apparently he is a very disruptive influence at the bernabeu. Overweight, troublesome and unprofessional. Great footballer but seemingly a prick.

  2. Faceman

stu – think the geordies will beat boro, draw with fulham and lose to villa.

    therfore 4 points

hull will lose tonight, draw with stoke, lose to bolton and lose to utd.

    therfore 1 point.

they end the season equal on points and hull go down on GD.

  3. Stu

Oh well Lovedup. I can still like them tho. Height and power. Our squad seems to be very lacking in those departments.

  4. Stu

I hope you are right Faceman. Of the teams threatened by relegation the only ones i dont hate are WBA.

  5. Lovedup Loner

Metzelder was 1 of the players alot of us were sayin we shud sign, but after seein him in the Euros and for Real (when he actually plays) Ive gone right off him!

Mama D Id deffo take tho!

  6. Stu

Agreed then Lovedup, for all germanys positives their defence was pretty wank in the euros. But still, he is big and strong at the back. We could do with some of that.,

  7. Lovedup Loner

What about hangeland then? U rate him? He’s got top reviews, but not really seen much of Fulham’s games…

  8. gooner786

Stu, I want Blackburn to go down aswell because of Fat Scam Allardyce. He is Fergusons puppet.

  9. Stu

I dont really watch much if Fulham either but everyone that rates him cant be wrong..can they?
He would certainly solve our height problems but he probably couldnt fit into our highline defence.

  10. Coadsi

If we had to chose from, M Diarra, Arteta or Nico K which one whould we choose?
If for defender we have to choose: S Distin, G Heinez or Hangeland which one would you chose?

  11. Stu

Our highline will prevent us from buying a big beast defender imo. Because generally the bigger you are the slower you are.

We have a pacy defence and they are all too small. Whatever about the fullbacks but Gallas and Toure are both 6ft at best. We need a 6’4 monster at least. If dropping the defence back abother 15-20yards then so be it. We get caught out with balls over the top as it is.

  12. Stu

Hangeland and Diarra for me too. We need a DM and CB. Krancjar and Arteta are playmakers and the other defenders mentioned are shite!

  13. Coadsi

BBK i expected that from you. which two players would you want BBK (although in your case i feel you gonna say 5 players or so)
I would chose the same two LL

  14. Lovedup Loner

You goin on about bid defenders bein g slow again, mate!

I don’t think it is a given that big CBs are always slow, Sol was pretty quick for us, even that Huth fella for Boro looked pretty quick… Not sure about Hangeland tho..

  15. Stu

Obviously there are a few that arent slow and big. Sol was one of those. But generally its a given that big is slow.

  16. Lovedup Loner

Shit, we need at least a dozen players, maybe more when Ade, RvP, Theo, Cesc, Gallas and Kolo leave….

  17. Lovedup Loner

If Ade goes, then we need a striker, if Kolo leaves we need a new CB, maybe 2 and a defensive midfielder, IMO…

    I’d have;

Hangeland, Alonso, Micah Richards and a quality striker… Now who that is, I don’t know??? But Benzema would be my fantasy manager choice…

  18. Coadsi

i do agree we need more players but the reality is le boss will not change. so if he buys two players the other new players coming in will be rosicky and eduardo. i am just sticking with two because i am trying not to set myself up.

  19. Keyser

Be realistic ffs Bendtner’s never going to score, see like on the weekend he missed them chances like.

  20. Lovedup Loner

    Sagna Gallas ??? Clichy
    Theo Cesc ??? Nasri/Rosicky
    Arshy RvP

So, where are these 5 starters gonna fit in???

  21. Stu

We can all talk about who we want/need. But seeing as its Wenger and what he said recently, be it true or a lie, its doubtful that we will buy anyone of note. No top quality players unless they are from france and are relatively unknown outside their own league.

  22. Lovedup Loner

I just think Richards can come good, he’s young and can play RB too… Just feel he is worth a punt…

  23. Lovedup Loner

Either Kolo OR Gallas will be off. If thats the case, I’d rather keep gallas and we can sell Kolo for a shit load to City!

  24. Stu

    Sagna Toure ??? Gibbs
    Nasri Cesc ??? Rosicky

That would do me for next season provided the ??? are top players but i wont be holding my breath. It will probably be Song and Denilson in there.

  25. Keyser

It’s Milaaan.. and because they’re going for Adebayor to we’re going to have to set up a tab for them.

  26. Lovedup Loner

I’ve got no idea if Micah would be available come the summer, although there have been quite a few stories about him being surplus to requirements, maybe bullshite, who knows? Don’t really care, it’s just my own personal choice…

  27. Lovedup Loner

Not sure about Hull goin down, I’d be quite happy if Phil Brown and Horton caught swine flu or sumfin though…

  28. Faceman

hull will go down, last year that scottish fuckwit mcleish fucked with us over the eduardo injury and this year sun tan shitface did the same.

  29. Keyser

See I can’t bring myself to care much, there’s going to be enough nerves for tomorrow forget everything else.

Heh the Scottish fuckwit McLeish will be replacing Brown next year, we might even have both still in the league.

us fans can play a huge part, not by intimidating united (they are used to it) but by making such a noise all 10 of our outfield players will be giving 110% (including ade)

i dont want to see no one sitting down, unless you havent got legs, and i expect a noise in there that ive never heard before in the emirates

if Rio has not had his ribcage smashed after the first 10 minutes, then were not doing our job, we need to smash that lanky prick early on and get right at them, and let them know we mean business

  31. reggie57

    Classic line from MARK GOONER

i dont want to see no one sitting down, unless you havent got legsS

  32. Stu

lol reggie, i thought you just made up a time frame but its actually been almost 6 hours. Weird that!

I havent mentioned his name because noone has been around to talk about him with. I decided against talking to myself on here.

  33. Mandanda

yeah that’s it Coadsi, Arsene needs to Barack them into victory, saw on bbc website “ARSENE ADAMANT ARSENAL WILL WIN” even Cesc is in on the act…positive vibes positive vibes until the nerves kicks in tomorrow…i guess its easy to believe when you ain’t got a choice…its our last chance

  34. Lovedup Loner

Of course we can effin do it!!!!!

    And we bleedin will!!!

    Howdo reggie reg!

Im off, till tomoro and all that…

  35. Faceman

    classice quote from le boss

“If I had said in November that we will reach the semi-finals of the Champions League and FA Cup and go 21 games unbeaten in the Premier League, you would have called an ambulance.”

  36. Mandanda

Stu, hope is good…its safer than belief, i take it you don’t score many headers when coming up for those corners eh 😉 after playing 3 years for my uni team I couldn’t manage even a safe of a goalie, i think i fluked an assist that’s how close i came…fun days tho!

  37. reggie57

Alright there loner iv been busy building a bigger pond in me yard, 3 weekends of hard collar im bushed!

  38. Stu

Unfortunately not Reggie. Just admire the german way of living etc. Especially their football. Nice and efficient. 😆

  39. reggie57

you do know your german fussball dont you,
i always say to my friends that you are the top-man.

  40. Stu

I dont generally make predictions because if im wrong i will feel worse than usual.

But since you ask i will be optimistic and say 2-0. I hope. 😕

  41. Stu

Taking into consideration our defensive record at home this season and united fluffing their lines in front of goal last week i hope its us going through 2-0.

BUT, my pessimistic side is telling me it will be 2-0 in the dying minutes and the mancs will get a lucky goal and knock us out.

  42. Stu

Or take the easy option by going for 0-0.

No goals = no highs and more importantly no lows.
No euphoria means no dispair at losing.

  43. reggie57

about 20 years ago someone i know offered to fight
Mr T in a bare knuckle fight £20,000 winner take all
    he bottled it mate.

  44. Stu

I knew he would be a wuss. The clue is in his laugh. Listen to his schoolgirl like giggle and you will see he is a ….well, a girl.

  45. Obi

i promise i’m going to be balling like a baby at the pub if we go through….better get the tissue ready

  46. reggie57

Stu its only half time in the barca-chav game so anything could happen yet ,the way barca played against RM the other night was something else Xavi and Inestia took the game to a level that i have never seen before and doubt i will ever see again.

  47. Stu

But the difference is that Real came out, tried to play football and got a spanking from Barca.

The chavs set out to get a clean sheet. Not to win.
Hiddink isnt stupid enough to try go toe to toe against Barca in the footballing stakes.

  48. gooner786

Arsene Wenger has moved to end recent speculation over his future as Arsenal manager.

The Frenchman has cut a more frustrated figure on the sidelines in recent seasons as he looks to close the gap on Manchester United and Liverpool at the top of the Premier League.

The Gunners have now gone three seasons without winning a major trophy and Wenger is determined not to make it four.

The 59-year-old has recently been tipped to take over at Real Madrid in the summer but Wenger insists that Arsenal are the only club for him and he remains as determined as ever to bring UEFA Champions League glory to the Emirates.

“I believe Arsenal is my club because it is my club, it is the only club,” he said

“I believe in the potential of this club and want to give this club the opportunity to win the Champions League. That is why I work so hard.”

But Wenger, who has a contract until 2011, adds that success in Europe is not the only reason why he is set to prolong his stay with the Gunners.

“My obsession is to play as well as possible and win as much as possible,” he explained.

“I don’t think that winning the Champions League is the sole motivation to continue as a coach.”

  49. LeProf

Ade for GBP20-25m to Inter or AC would be fine, but Wenger must buy Benzema to replace Ade before Manure snap him up. Wenger also must catch Lescott (Everton) and Veloso (sporting) plus combo buy Joe Hart-Micah Richards from Citeh for a solid defence back-up. Vela and Ramsey as backup for Theo and Nasri. Yeap, only Ade can go but keep the rest with those new recruits then we all can talk about Invincibles, again. Sp*rs will be relegated next season for sure.

    Tomorrow’s match, 4-4-2:

    Sagna Kolo Djourou Eboue(Gibbs)

    Walcott(Ramsey) Cesc Song Nasri(Vela)

    Bendtner(Ade) RVP

2-0 (agg 1-2) and we meet Titi again. Good luck guys!

  50. reggie57

I can see the serial granny shagger rooney being sent off tomorrow night providing the crowd keep up the pressure on em.

  51. mak

Tuesday night’s UEFA Champions League Semi-Final Second Leg match against Manchester United is possibly the most important match ever to be played at Emirates Stadium.

With the encounter delicately poised, we urge all Arsenal supporters to arrive early at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night, so that the stadium is completely full by kick-off.

We also urge all Arsenal supporters to wear red on the night and to make as much noise as possible to support the team throughout this huge evening.

To turn Emirates Stadium completely red and white, the Club has produced 60,000 specially designed flags for every Arsenal supporter to wave on the night. The flags will be on each seat in the stadium and we urge all supporters to help us create a fantastic atmosphere by waving their flags, especially when the teams come out at the start of the match.

The stadium will be open from 6.30pm on Tuesday night. So get to Emirates Stadium early to create a winning atmosphere in one of the biggest nights in Arsenal’s history.

  52. Pedro

Apologies to Gooner786, Mak and Le Prof… I’ve been out today, so you got held up in moderation!

You’re free to roam… welcome to Le Grove!

  53. Pedro

Night everyone… tomorrow is going to be the greatest night the Emirates has ever seen!

  54. A

it depends whether we can just dominate the midfield bbk – if the defence is put under pressure it’ll crumble, but if we have utd on the back foot the entire game then it’ll be fine!! have faith

a-arsenal will not dominate a game for 90 mins it just won’t happen, who before has domnated a game for 90 minutes NO ONE

  56. A

hart/richards/lescott?! we need top quality players, not average english players!!

hart isn’t even premiership class imo, richards at centre back has been shocking all season, so much so that the very poor onuha starts there ahead of him with richards pushed to right back, and lescott is decent enough but not good enough to start regularly for us, and would cost far far too much to be a sub!

  57. A

i know bbk, that’s why i want utd to score early, so we have to go at them all game! i don’t have any faith in us keeping a clean sheet unfortunately

i was just being optimistic though – dominating is the only way we would keep a clean sheet

  58. reggie57

The media is building them up as unbeatable fuckin hell liverfool turned em over easy enough and that was on their own patch, believe bbk, go on you can do it.

lescott is good enough to partner toure as gallas will be leaving, did anyone think rio would of gone on to be the player he is now after signing from leeds,to many people are quick to judge these sorts of players, put it this way if senderos, djourou, denilson can play for arsenal so can lescott

  60. A

no way lescott – with gallas going we need someone better, not someone worse!!

rio was one of the highest rated young defenders in europe, and cost 30 million after already going in a big money move from west ham, lescott is incomparable – he isn’t that young anymore, and isn’t even the best english defender at everton!!

we need someone top top quality to start, not someone who’s a pretty good premiership defender, and not so young that he’s got room to turn into a top player

if you look at who might be coming in out of bassong, sakho lolllllllescott is far better then them 2 and he’s english

  62. A

yeah i know bbk – he’ll be 27 when the season starts, rio was 22 when he went to utd. at 27 you’re coming into your peak, you have some but not that much room to improve.

if lescott was as good as he is at 22 then i’d say awesome – we should go for him, because he’d still be a kid with loads of improving to do. As it is he’s near his peak, and is nowhere near good enough to start on a regular basis for us

jagielka has got the ol senderos moments in him as he demonstrated last season against us and against villa this season….

  64. A

bassong has been much better than lescott in the prem this season bbk, and how do you know that lescott is better than sakho?!

lescott was very poor at the start of the season, he was even dropped by everton!!

sakho and bassong are not all that great now, but are very young, so have the potential to become great.

lescott is good but isn’t so young that he has the potential to become great

look we don’t need anymore young inexperienced players who are not going to help us win things we need ready made in the summer and lescott is

  66. Stu

Senderos was amazing to put it lightly when he was around 20/21 but for whatever reason his confidence dropped. Maybe it was buying Gallas that did it.

  67. A

we do need more inexperienced players provided they’re exceptionally talented, we just need experienced players too!

none of sakho, bassong, or lescott are close to being good enough to take over from gallas when he goes in the summer, the difference is sakho and bassong could one day be, whereas lescott will never be good enough, so it’d be worth signing sakho or bassong.

however that has nothing to do with the present, that’s for the future, the number one priority has to be to sign a top top quality player to partner kolo next year, signing bassong or sakho to be a reserve would just be a bonus

  68. A

i agree stu – senderos is much better than lescott, and still has room to improve much more than lescott.

I’d much rather he returned than someone average like lescott or hangeland came in.

lescott had a great season last year, but this year was pants for the first half of it, and most of his good season last year he played left back!
