A good day to play football

by & filed under Uncategorized.

So today we play Man city, for the first time we play football in two weeks and boy does it feel like we haven’t played since last season.

I honestly haven’t felt like this since a pre season game! It really makes me want to appreciate what we have left, because it gave me a taste of what we have to come in between May and August.

Yes before any smart arses tell me that by winning the European Champions league, the English premiership and the FA cup our summer break won’t seem so long, let me tell you all how difficult it has been to write 10 posts with no football news.

The only good thing about those summer months is the transfer speculation, the fact that we may sign an unknown African or a 13 year old French kid! Kidding but maybe next season we’ll start to see more of Coquelin, Ramsey and Wilshere, because those three I rate and one day they will all be stars.

On a really bizarre note I was out in a restaurant in rainy Spain last night and a man came up to me and apologised for giving me shit during the Liverpool game at the Grove, I was gobsmacked because he not only recognised me, he admitted he was wrong that day, well done mate, you are a good and honest person, you also have an amazing memory! All is forgiven, come on the blog and meet the real Arsenal fans, we are all top, top people, oh and I’m sorry I made an Arsenal speech to your table, although it was unnecessary I felt I had to do it, there were a few chavs there that needed educating!

On to today, this game is personal, Sparky Hughes has already said that he respects Cesc and that Cesc is one of the world’s best players, good man Sparky, but that won’t buy you jack shit, we will paralise you today, we will tear you a new orifice, today is revenge day, today we get to set the record straight and play the team that beat us on one of our worst days at the Eastlands.

Also today we have Adebayor available again, don’t get me wrong I don’t necessarily want him back, but it is good to have him as an option, like him or loath him, he does give us options, so do I expect to see him today? Yes I do, but I hope he comes on as an impact sub, I also hope we see Theo again, we know Cesc will be back and I expect to see him back to his best, he’s been away a long time, but he has also been rested, mentally and physically, so I expect, Arsenal fans expect and Cesc, England expect, go out their son and give it your best, you owe us, you owe the premiership and you owe the Arsenal.

5 nil to the good guys today my friends, I’m feeling good, sorry about the prediction, but for any doubting Thomas’s out there, you’ll thank me at 5pm tonight!

  1. Stu

Thank you Irish. I know i have criticised nearly everyone this season but now is definately not the time for it. It really puts a dampner on the win when some people still give out about players for no reason.

  2. Keyser

Heh, fuck me what is wrong with this sire, it’s like it brings the worst out in people, probably the only place where you’ll find Arsenal fans who are more depressed after a win.

  3. irishgunner

Exactly Stu – he was only on the pitch for what 15-20 mins??

David also seems to have forgotten Bendtner’s world class finish against Dynamo Kiev eh?!

  4. Rizzy

    Keyser i fuckin agree.
Play wonderfully, returning players and we are in a great position and people still fuckin moan and groan..

    dont hate, appreciate.

  5. IX

yeah but bendtner’s first touch is oommph!!! πŸ˜†
Though it’s a pity his shooting ability is lacking..

  6. Pat

Howard Webb is a cunt, especially since I’m Polish and he totally fucked us over against Austria. I suggest he never step foot into Poland cause he’s the “most wanted” guy right now.

  7. patthegooner

    Its a minority Keyser,

I think the majority are more than happy with that. I certainly am,

Thought we struggled with the new shape a bit in the 1st half, but apart from a good 20min spell, Man City were not in it at all.

Biggest thing for me today though is that firstly Ade is fit again and more importantly scoring and looking dangerous, and secondly Cesc is fit and spraying the ball around and creating for others.

  8. irishgunner

I’m really pleased after today and we are now 17 unbeaten – not too shabby.

    Bring on Villareal πŸ™‚

  9. David

    Dynamo Kiev?

One lucky goal dont mean shyte

and i wasnt bashing pink boots…

    all i said was

    Adebayor > Pink boots.

    Fact.

  10. Pat

Song had a really good game, as did Denilson. I don’t think anyone played bad. Eboue did really well when he came on. If anything, Arshavin was really quiet but brilliant at the same time.

  11. patthegooner

Yeah said it during the game Irish,

I am starting to actually rate him.

Still dont think he is the long term answer there, we still need depth in the defensive role.

  12. GunnerShabz

its a good result, the main thing is we hitting form right time of the season

its a shame we drew 3 times in a row, we could of been closer to the top 3

but players coming back and other teams are really not looking forward playing us now.

    next stop villarreal and wigan.

we really need theo walcott in this game, his speed scares european defenders

  13. Keyser

patthegooner – I thought we looked a bit tired and lathargic, not lazy necessarily but playing within ourselves, to be expected I think 3-4 players coming back from long-term injury and most of the squad have been all over the world for the last two weeks.

We were a bit lucky because Man Citeh probably had some of the same problems and I think it’s impressive that we can look soo comfortable and still come away with the win.

The lesser players are starting to feel the confidence and it’s starting to show, Song’s back heel link up with Arshavin was one of the best moves of the game.

The formation I think Song and Denilson need to learn how to play with Fabregas, we’ve been playing 4-4-1-1 or 4-4-2 for most of the season and it’s a bit different reverting to 3 in the middle when they are all pretty similar.

  14. GunnerShabz

    patthegooner

with arshavin, you know he can produce a piece of magic when he wants

i still think he needs to get used to the pace of english football

  15. Keyser

Stu – Because if Bendtner’s getting bashed you stick up for him, if it was Adebayor you’d just join in, heh.

  16. David

    Spot on Kelsey

I get sick of the impartiallity to Bendtner

Some people still saying he’s better even when Ade won another game for us.

  17. irishgunner

Nobody is saying bendtner is better – just don’t see why you feel the need to bash him after we won a game comfortably

  18. Keyser

David – Heh, you’re just as bad against Bendtner, you won’t listen to any reason for him having a good game, Bendtner’s played well in his absence, I think it’s great if we can get as many players back as possible and in good form.

  19. patthegooner

Agree with everything you say there Keyser,

we looked very comfortable after the 2nd goal. I was quite surprised that Man City just gave up and did not even look like getting back in the game.

It was actually a very good warm up game for Villareal,

Bit worried about Theo though. How long are Eduardo and RVP out for. I guess Nasri will be back for the CL.

  20. Pat

Even when Ade isn’t scoring, he does a lot on the field. Anyone notice how he tracked back today, 3/4 into our own half?

  21. Confidentgoner

    Stu,

Was just jiving. Saw the look on his face.. from my stream. Like u I ill watch a full replay later, streams are terrible..

    David,

Agree Ade was clinical in front of goal, but Bent is getting there. He is only 22. I don’t agree with guys that tend to compare both players. It is like comparing you to your subordinate in the office. Bent could get better, but we shall see.

The one clear chance they had in the first half was a lack of concentration from Clichy. Others moved up, but he stayed back and kept the striker onside. Glad nothing came of it. Happy times are here.

  22. Stu

Its not that Keyser, i didnt really stand up for him. I just didnt want to hear any negativity towards any of the players after a good win. Not in the mood you know….

  23. David

    As i said

    Adebayor > Bendtner

The fact that u see that as bashing in itself and not as a matter of pure fact speaks for itself

  24. Keyser

pattheGooner – I dunno, hopefully Walcott’s ok, I think he’s a bit conscious because he doesn’t want to be out for soo long again, but I hope the injuries aren’t starting to take their toll on the squad because it’s only going to get even harder from here on in.

Van Persie and Diaby both have a small chance, but you never know with Wenger, they might make an appearance. Eduardo probably won’t be risked unless needed.

I hope Villeareal are facing some of the same problems.

  25. Confidentgoner

A lot of Grovers were saying that Ade should not just walk into the team bla.. bla … so, i think in that context, Dave is right to give hi opinion.

I don’t think we should be having the argument though. We have strikers who can do different things, albeit no one is exceptional or very complete. Some are close, others are coming up and fast too! My worry is Dudu. One game, one injury, thats very frustrating for him and for us. How injured is RVP? Can he play against the yellows?

  26. Keyser

David – What says alot is the fact that you feel the need to go on about it because you want to prove some trivial point, they both play for us, both have played well today and in recent weeks as has the team as a whole.

They offer different things as players even if they do look similar in height and stature.

  27. AW

What piss poor guys we have out here : “Ade’s arrogance will be sky high …”
Feck off… U bet it will be. Whats the harm in that if he scores … Its seems that many here would rather see him not score and look like a chump.. Beggars belief really the shits that thrown around here.

If all our strikers are fit : Ade and Eduardo should start. End of story.

  28. kenny smith

david… ade played in most of our 0-0’s too…. so did almunia, gallas, toure etc…… whats your point…. ade was shocking before he got injured no one can doubt that… those two goals today he ows us for being a lazy arroant prick before his injury… Ade has about 4 years experience on bendter so theres no comparison…. ade wasnt playing at a club as big as arsenal when he was 19 was he???? At least bendtner probably cares about the club… ade just flirts with barca and milan to try blled the club for as much money as he cud. i dont see bendtner demanding more and more money…

  29. David

    well ure Right stu

    Its a matter of opinion.

And im sure the majority would agree..that when you have a forward….1-1 with the keeper….He should score.

Age or no age. Creativity or no creativity. Put the ball in the net.

There are a few minorty that prefer “creativity” over scoring especially when 1-1 with the keeper.

But as Ade showed today on that second goal that he’s miles ahead of our Big Dane.

So as a fact…1-1 with the keeper…you want Ade taking it not pinkboots.

but then again…thats just my opinion. Im sure alot of people agree with that tho.

  30. AW

” i dont see bendtner demanding more and more money… ”

Let Bendtner first have a 30 goal season , then we will see.

  31. kenny smith

i have seen ade miss countless 1-1’s with the keeper……. I dont think ive seen eduardo miss more than one 1-1 with a keeper… so does that mean he is better than ade???

You dont have to answer that we all already know he is

  32. kenny smith

10 goals, 20, goals 30, goals what does it matter. Thierry henry scored 200 goals before he was demanding the wages ade wants!

  33. Stu

Again tho thats not fact. Fact is something that is proven beyond doubt. Ade has missed plenty of 1-1s aswell. Obviously not as many as Bendtner but who has.

Anyway, im sick of the Nik-Ade debate so how about a change of subject anyone?
It has been done to absolute death and is always the same. Ade is older and a prick…Nik is shit, but is young and will come good etc etc etc Its so fucking boring.

  34. kenny smith

on and lets see bendtner get 45+ starts like ade had last season and then we will compare him with Ade

  35. David

    Look.

I dont like it when people are quick to slag off Ade when he misses chances but are so inlove with Pinkboots when he misses 10 times more. Its a double standard….and thats all Im bringing out of it.

How many times this season have I heard Ade is shite?

    And people like A,

coming up here saying stuff like an inform Bendtner is miles ahead of an inform Ade.

I didnt start this people…you have to understand.

  36. kenny smith

David Bendtner gets just as much stick on here as Ade does!!!! its not a double standard!!! ive been on here slagging them both off! The only thing that grovers are bitter about is his fucking disgraceful attitude in the summer mugging us all off and thinking were all a bunch of cunts!

  37. Stu

Speaking of players and their wages. I think we can all agree that TA was the best because, although i dont know this as a fact, i heard that he didnt even read the contracts he was offered, didnt ask for an increase or anything because he was just happy to be playing for us. Now anything close to that from any of our players would be nice. None of this bolocks of “on-going negotiations”

  38. irishgunner

David – Ade didn’t make friends for himself when he flirted with Barca and Milan and then before his injury he looked like he was putting in little work, think that is why people are not so quick to defend him.

  39. David

    Kenny Smith

Bendtner gets as much stick on here as Ade does?

    Friend.

You are not online the sames times as I am

    So i forgive you.

And so what if he acted like that in the summer?

He’s an Arsenal player…and he’s one of our top scorers.
    Get over it.

  40. Stu

    Ex-fucking-actly Kenny.
Ade gets a slagging because he has tried to whle himself to other clubs who werent even bidding, all so he could squeeze more money out of the club. Greed is an awful characteristic and that contributes to the dislike of Ade.

  41. kenny smith

dont have to satisfy me david…. i just dont see what the big hardon over Ade is… he is an excellent striker… but nothing more… he has his good days and his bad. On the good days we will praise him and on his bad days we will criticise him. No other player gets treated differently. i agree the critcism can be a little harsh on him sometimes but people shud expect that after the cunt he made of the club in the summer

  42. AW

” on and lets see bendtner get 45+ starts like ade had last season and then we will compare him with Ade ”

Seems we are more concerned about ” see … told u so ” moments than the club. Feck off to that.

Going by what we have seen so far ; The ARsenal will profit more by having Ade upfront than Bendtner ; thats what I care about.

    Potential.
5 years down the line. We will see.
I dont F’in care. Next game’s what I’m bothered about. And I ll put Ade up there ahead oh Nik.

  43. Stu

David, you havent been on here much lately have you?
Well either that or i havent noticed.
Even if Kenny hasnt been on here as much as you doesnt mean anything anyway.

  44. Keyser

David – All your doing is the same crap your complaining about, whats the point in that ?!

..and now you’ve got others going, fucks sake this site is shit when we win.

  45. Stu

lol Keyser, its usually different. Usually when we win there is nothing to complain about and its annoyingly quiet on here. I guess the win today wasnt perfect enough and there are still flaws worth argueing about.

  46. David

    Greed?

    Personally i think a striker that scores 35+ goals a season…

Deserves more than 30k a week.

    Maybe not 80…certainly not 30.

    And you call that……….Greed?

So why dont you lot slag off Flam-oney?

    Double standards….Im done with this.

  47. irishgunner

Two great assists by Cesc today

going to be cracking when him, theo, arshavin and Nasri all get going

  48. David

    oh Dear

    Keyser…

It really isnt that serious….Dont take it seriously mate..Im just having a laugh…winding people up

    Who cares we won!

  49. kenny smith

David ive been on here reading comments people asking for the Dane’s blood…. but of recent although bendtner has had some terrible finishing people realise his attitude is right and is really trying which is more than be said for ade in his last few games bar this one…

ANd i cant believe you just asked me to forget about what ade did in the summer…. i havent got ARSENAL tattoo’d on my arm for cunts like to make a cunt of me…. No one is bigger than AFC and cant let shit like that go… he showed where his priorities lie in the summer and they do not lie with ARSENAL they lie with himself…. have u any idea what i would sacrifice to be blessed with his talent and play for the arsenal???? He takes it all forgranted and it makes me really sad!

  50. Stu

And we have all fucked Flamini off but that was months ago when his cuntishness was fresh in our minds. But he is gone now and has ruined his own career. He is an irrelevance now. Why bring him up?

  51. AW

On a positive note , Fab was absolutely fab today.

Our squad strength all of a sudden is looking frightening.

  52. David

    Pardon me Stu

    30+ goals a season…lol.

Awww. Is 5 more goals really that serious?

Im really just pushing ure buttons people.

I do think Ade is better than Nik tho.

Will Nik come good…Maybe but at the moment. I will lay of Nik…if people lay off Ade.
But that will never happn. Because Ade is “greedy”

  53. kenny smith

David we do slag off flamoney!!!!!!

How does any player deserve 30k a week??? two million unemployed in britain earning Β£0 and you are justifying 80k a week??? sorry mate but that makes me feel sick!

  54. David

Because More than A few People WISH THAT WE STILL HAD FLAMONEY IN OUR SQUAD!

They dont CARE if he was “greedy”!!!

  55. Stu

Kenny, unfortunately thats just the times we live in now. Some have nothing while even less have too fucking much. None of them have any right to complain about the size of their pay-packet.

Irish, did you read about how their are GAA players with no jobs and might have to emigrate to feed their families. How fucking nice is that!

  56. kenny smith

Ade is greedy… demanding 80k a week after one half decent season of which half of his goals were scored against derby and from the penalty spot????

    liverpool hit wood-work again

  57. irishgunner

Stu – well at the end of the day GAA players are just regular joe soaps. I think Gaelic football will lose a lot more to Aussie rules in the next few years but the country isn’t big enough to sustain a professional GAA

  58. Stu

Ade just did his job well, he didnt win us anything so imo didnt deserve such an increase. When he wins us something he will have earned such a high wage. But until then he is fucking greedy.

  59. kenny smith

no… we still wish we had him becuase he was ace!!! if wenger said he was demanding 80k a week after 1 good season then id have told him to say the same thing i wud of told adebayor!!! fuck off!!!

liverpool hit the bar AGAIN!!! how this is still 0-0 i dont know!

  60. Stu

Agreed Irish. But GAA is brilliant if only for the fact that they all play for the love of the game and not the money. Thats where football could learn a few lessons.

  61. kelsey

Why all this arguing guys.We haven’t played for two weeks, and i believe this was the first time this starting 11 have played together.Everyone played pretty well and City helped to keep the game flowing.Unbeaten domestically in 17 is it, lets nit pick another day where the pros and cons of the players can be made.

  62. irishgunner

Stu – yep, if you started to pay GAA it would lose so much. Look at Cork – too much player power there already

  63. kenny smith

David i know mate but people dont know how lucky they are… thing that annoys me is how can people justify asking for those wages… if the club offer them to you then fair enough but demanding it is a no no… i know its world of football etc but especially with Ade coming from a continent that has fuck all and is dubbed “thrid world” he shud be very grateful to be where he is… I live in britain and if wenger came to me tomorrow and offered me a contact of Β£1k a week id be fucking delighted!!!

  64. Stu

And on these depressing notes i am leaving. Laters everyone. Cheer the fuck up….i think we might have won.

  65. kenny smith

kelsey im only arguing cause i dont like people who can justify 80k a week for kicking a bag of air around a field when we have two million people unenployed and businesses going under and getting worse… but your right though.. today was awesome and cant wait for MOTD… i wonder how far down the list we will be this week

  66. Big Raddy

FFS. Guess what David is banging on about after we totally smash a a team?

We were great today. Everyone played well, even Eboue when he came on.

Today was what Mr Arsene Wenger OBE’s Arsenal are all about – fast intricate flowing football.

  67. irishgunner

Kenny – Wenger said it it was on Sky’s website. Said he looks ok and will be assessed tomorrow.

  68. irishgunner

BR – to think we were even missing Eduardo, Nasri and RvP as well and that’s not mentioning Rosicky. I was very happy with today, very happy.

  69. kenny smith

i hope so irish but u never know with what wenger says lol lol. Sorry about all the argueing everyone i just hate it when people try justify footballer wages and i was very very hurt by Ade’s actions in the summer. Guess i dont forget things very easily… anyway.. we won and Ade scored twice… im pleased for him and the club and everyone and i think it safe to say he owed us those after some indifferent performances shall we say. Cesc played really well today and what i saw from my stream it looked like Denilson and Song played well too. so lots of positives

  70. David

    Spot on Kenny

    Youre absolutely right..

But i tend to forget the Man’s sins easily because he does score for Arsenal. You make a very good point though.

I would be more than grateful to work for Arsenal. For whatever wages a week!

  71. Big Raddy

By far the worst performance of the day was Howard Webb. He was dreadful. Cost us two great chances by not ‘playing on’, missed foul after foul by the Mancs, and should have sent Dunne off (for being hideously ugly)

  72. kenny smith

im off to make a brew and watch the second half praying fulham win this somehow… ill see you all in 50 mins or so and i apologise if i have annoyed anyone on what shud be a happy day!

  73. irishgunner

kenny – think theo will be ok, we need him tuesday and hope Nasri and RvP will be back, enjoy your brew πŸ˜€

  74. irishgunner

I mus say the MOTM so far in the Liverpool vs Fulham game has been the woodwork – great game, great game!!

  75. kenny smith

I hope some of our players get the mention they deserve on MOTD tonight… although there are 8 games todayso they will probably lot most of their time on the liverpool and chelsea games… since shearer was playing chelsea today

  76. irishgunner

Kenny we could win 10-0 and we’ll still get about 5 mins on MOTD

bet we will be after Hull – Pompey cos they are in a relegation battle

    wait and see

  77. kenny smith

i wud so love liverpool to get beat here to see what that cunt steve mcmanaman has to say… he wrote a coloumn saying no one will beat liverpool just now!

  78. irishgunner

ha ha I think Fulham may sneak a draw – sometimes the ball just won’t go in, feck we had plenty of them days

  79. kenny smith

Irish just been on the bbc webpage… here is the running order

    Newcastle v Chelsea
    Fulham v Liverpool
    Blackburn v Spurs
    Bolton v Middlesbrough
    West Brom v Stoke City
    Arsenal v Man City
    West Ham v Sunderland
    Hull City v Portsmouth

can you believe we are sixth!!!! us v the richest team in world football and we are 6th!!!! WTF i bet if city won we wud be second!!! what a crock of shit!!! Bolton v middlesbourgh and WB V stoke above us!!!!!!

  80. irishgunner

    FFS that is shite

Blackburn vs Spurs and, Bolton vs Boro and West Brom vs Stoke before us and City ha ha complete joke

I’ll watch it on RTE at seven, they give Arsenal due respect on Irish tv, Johnny Giles thinks we’re a good bet to sneak the Champions League – good man Johnny Giles

  81. kenny smith

irish im going to move to ireland then!!! i hate having to stay up really late waiting to watch arsenal on 3rd last on match of the day! which ireland you from again???

  82. kenny smith

you must be a celtic fan then irish?? lol sorry dont mean to stereotype lol. Do they like scottish people over there??

looks like liverpool cud try all day and wont score tongiht

  83. irishgunner

I used to kind of follow them but not really. You are right though, nearly everyone in Ireland supports Celtic.

Irish and Scottish people tend to get on unless the Scottish wear Rangers shirts ha ha

  84. Franchise

Fantastic game fantastic atmosphere. always knew Ade would walk back into the side (told u A) hope he keeps his head in check this time. plays the lone role better than any1 else in the side. for those wondering if he would link up well with arshavin i think the one two (back heel) in the 1st half proves there is hope. bring on villareal. im not gonna say anything about bendtner. Time would tell his fate. he’s really not that bad for a 4th/5th choice striker 😯

  85. kenny smith

haha irish no danger you will ever see me in a rangers shirt!!! or even a celtic shirt for that matter… i only ever wear the arsenal shirt!!! lol

Yup i guessed everyone was celtic over there. nI do know the history of the two clubs i just couldnt remember which ireland’s were which fans lol.

  86. kenny smith

oh my…. they were linign up there… yup looks like it isnt going to be their day πŸ™‚ oooo shaved the post.. thats another woodwork shot

  87. kenny smith

yup franchise… although to say fulham have ridden their luck in this game is a major understatement… they havent troubled reina either

  88. kenny smith

craig burley has just openly admiited he hates referee’s lol. shud he not get in trouble for that with this respect campaign!

  89. kenny smith

looking forward to listening to 606 and hearing all the moany liverpool fans moaning… going from rafa is shit early in the season to rafa is god recenlty and they will be back to rafa is shit agin lol

  90. irishgunner

No Franchise but I don’t want Liverpool or Chelsea to win either ha ha

I shout on a game by game basis πŸ™‚

  91. Confidentgoner

Liverpool are really looking good. They have nicked a goal in.

I wager they’ll beat Chelsea easily. They are playing with confidence and they shoot , use their width and they defend very well.

We may end up meeting them for the CL final.

  92. Confidentgoner

In all departments Liverpool have capable hands and good backups. They are formidable. Can we beat them on our day?

  93. irishgunner

Course we can beat them on our day, we can beat anyone on our day.

Look at us today – IF we can get a near full fit squad and I will leave Rosicky out – Wenger has to pick from Adebayor, RvP, Eduardo, Bendtner, Vela, Arshavin (except CL), Cesc, Nasri, Theo as attack minded players – bring it, bring it πŸ˜€

  94. irishgunner

    I must be off now

From Almunia to Adebayor very good display today guys, I’m signing off as a happy Gooner.

    See ya guys soon

Just back from the game (via the pub obviously). terrific performance. Cesc magnificent, denilson awesome (after a few dodgy dives) and eboue looked inspired. Almunia – best GK in the prem :0)

We looked balanced playing 4-5-1 today offensively and defensively, should we stick to this?
I’ve always regarded ppl who see 4-5-1 as s defensive formation as being demented!

it does look as if delinson proving to be a very good player another victory i do thinkn can still finish 2/3rd,the team does look very good a shame we had so many draws. i am realy not sure if cesc will be here next season with all the speculation and risiskt is big question mark for me he only has 1 year left and with his fitness its very questioneble weather he will stay on

Well based on what Wenger said..

I don’t know [what changes I will make]. I don’t know if we lost Walcott today, I don’t believe so. We have a little opportunity to get Van Persie back, a very small one to get Nasri back. We lose Arshavin, who is not eligible, and we have absolutely no chance to have Diaby or Eduardo available.”
