A good day to play football

by & filed under Uncategorized.

So today we play Man city, for the first time we play football in two weeks and boy does it feel like we haven’t played since last season.

I honestly haven’t felt like this since a pre season game! It really makes me want to appreciate what we have left, because it gave me a taste of what we have to come in between May and August.

Yes before any smart arses tell me that by winning the European Champions league, the English premiership and the FA cup our summer break won’t seem so long, let me tell you all how difficult it has been to write 10 posts with no football news.

The only good thing about those summer months is the transfer speculation, the fact that we may sign an unknown African or a 13 year old French kid! Kidding but maybe next season we’ll start to see more of Coquelin, Ramsey and Wilshere, because those three I rate and one day they will all be stars.

On a really bizarre note I was out in a restaurant in rainy Spain last night and a man came up to me and apologised for giving me shit during the Liverpool game at the Grove, I was gobsmacked because he not only recognised me, he admitted he was wrong that day, well done mate, you are a good and honest person, you also have an amazing memory! All is forgiven, come on the blog and meet the real Arsenal fans, we are all top, top people, oh and I’m sorry I made an Arsenal speech to your table, although it was unnecessary I felt I had to do it, there were a few chavs there that needed educating!

On to today, this game is personal, Sparky Hughes has already said that he respects Cesc and that Cesc is one of the world’s best players, good man Sparky, but that won’t buy you jack shit, we will paralise you today, we will tear you a new orifice, today is revenge day, today we get to set the record straight and play the team that beat us on one of our worst days at the Eastlands.

Also today we have Adebayor available again, don’t get me wrong I don’t necessarily want him back, but it is good to have him as an option, like him or loath him, he does give us options, so do I expect to see him today? Yes I do, but I hope he comes on as an impact sub, I also hope we see Theo again, we know Cesc will be back and I expect to see him back to his best, he’s been away a long time, but he has also been rested, mentally and physically, so I expect, Arsenal fans expect and Cesc, England expect, go out their son and give it your best, you owe us, you owe the premiership and you owe the Arsenal.

5 nil to the good guys today my friends, I’m feeling good, sorry about the prediction, but for any doubting Thomas’s out there, you’ll thank me at 5pm tonight!

    Sagna Toure Gallas Clichy

    eboue Cesc/song Denilson AA

    Bendtner Ade

is my pick for the starting line up ..
i dont agree with it ..
but i think given wengers decisions this season , it is the most likely ..

  2. Geoff

Morning all, Pedro is going to the game, I’ll be watching it from Spain, so today could be a good day.

  3. gnarleygeorge9

so you’ll be on here game time then 😉 It’ll be the cumfy couch foe me in front of the falt screen.

….oh & if it is 5-0 I’ll have an extra 1 hour to sleep on it 🙂 Chamoneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

  4. tonyadamsisgod

I’ll take a comprehensive win whatever the score line! Just as long as we continue to play well and apply pressure on all of the teams around us! Momentum is paramount right now!

  5. benno

Evo, nah the west is good, except its like 10 years behind the east in everything, and that its so damn windy, and that half the bands that come to Aus leave out Perth, k maybe the east is looking good lol. Although the times for footy are a lot better over here which is the main clincher for the west, can’t beat a run of games at 8, 10 and 12 tonight 😀

  6. Nishanth

I expect it to be slightly tough 2day.City would be really defensive 2day.2-0 to arsenal.Bendtner and walcott to score

  7. Pires02

Like the optimism PDT. An early goal is definitely needed to settle down quickly and start playing our game.

  8. tonyadamsisgod

What do we think todays line up will be? The back 5 will pick itself as usual but without Nasri, Diaby, RvP and Eduardo we have limted options with only part fit players such as Walcott and Cesc. Is Vela out?

  9. Pires02

Shame Nasri hasn’t made it. Looking forward to once again having three top pass and move midfielders.

  10. Pires02

I think he should start with both Cesc and Theo. Do the business first, and then if we’re a couple up, take them off after 65-70.

  11. finestcuts

    Back to real football 🙂

Yes, we should pump past five past Man City, looking forward to it!

Well done Geoff and Pedro for keeping the site running, if you need a cameo article from time to time to take a break from the monotony I’m at your service…best regards!

  12. tonyadamsisgod

I think we will see Adebayor starting today! We only have 2 strikers and Arshavin will have to play wide left if we are without Nasri and Vela. I think this will be our starting line up:

    Sagna – Toure – Gallas – Clichy
    Walcott – Denilson – Fabregas – Arshavin
    Bendtner – Adebayor

I think Wenger will look to get off to a flier and once we are comfortable we will pull off Cesc and Theo.

  13. Pedro

No doubt in my mind Raddy…

Ade an Nik up front…or Bends and Arsh upfront with Eboue out wide?

    What’s it going to be?

Finest, did you read about that kid who received a banning order for flogging his ticket outside the ground?

Remember you tried to hand money to me before that game… a lucky escape me thinks!

  14. Pires02

Same here Taig but I think he’ll go for Song’s physical presence especially if Kompany and De Jong are in their midfield. Ireland is a big lump as well if he’s shaken off the injury

  15. Pedro

Oh… good post Geoff! Very random… I can’t believe he came up to you and shares a holiday destination with you!

    Sorry… business destination!

  16. Pedro

So I’m trying to be all responsible and put money away…

My bank just sent me an e-mail saying they’re giving me 0.25% gross AER… I’m no finance expert, but that seems a pretty poor rate of return…

  17. Pedro

Get in… mind you, getting a Saturday morning hatrick is a but like getting a real life hatrick against derby…

  18. tonyadamsisgod

Pires, yeah possibly. Im just going on the fcat that Denilson seems to get the nod over Song most of the time when there is only 1 spot up for grabs (I think). Either way our attacking players should be keeping the Man Shitty players far too busy to even let them think about attacking our goal!

  19. finestcuts

Yeah I didn’t want you to feel like you had to wait Pedro, I don’t skank people ever, I hate it when you’ve arranged a transaction and the other person just waits until they’re prompted for the readies.

  20. tonyadamsisgod

I think it just seems like that as he was rested a little bit before the international break came around. He did need one!

I cant wait to see how Cesc and Andrey get on together! Could be the foundation of one of the best midfields in the world let alone in the EPL!

  21. Pedro

haha! I defintly didn’t think you were trying to skank me… imagine if we’d got nicked? That would have been a great introduction… having a chat in the back of a meat wagon!

    Predictions today?

Oh, well played Pires… a double hatrick against Derby… you and Ade have much to talk about!

  22. Nishanth

    Sagna Toure Gallas Clichy

    Walcott Denilson Cesc Gibbs

    Arshavin Bendtner

I heard Gibbs was brilliant playing in the midfield for the england under 20 team. I have more faith in him than Eboue

  23. tonyadamsisgod

We definately have a lot of owrk left to do! A lot of very Hard work! But at least when we win a trophy or two people will have to admit we bloody well earnt it!

  24. Pedro

True Pires… they’ve played all the top teams… now they’ve got to play all the teams fighting for survival…

  25. gnarleygeorge9

I actually think this could be a hard game to get a result. Hopefully 2-0, that will do me, but 1-0 gets the chockies as well. I reckon that Arswaxin will score. Maybe Ade the 2nd. I really won’t to put daylight between The Club & Squeal O’Neills mob, coz Arsenal have some big fixtures still to come 😉

  26. Evo in Oz

never thought i would say this on here, but come on the blues! up by 7 goals at half time, you know we’re coming!

  27. Jam

Good morning fellas. It fells good to have some real footie to look forward to again. The interlulall sucks bigtime. Anyway, my attacking lineup would be…

  28. TonyS

I would love to see these forward plays do an all out attack one day…..just imagine the carnage!!! Doubt we’ll ever get to see it though 🙁

    Eduardo RVP
    Arshavin Cesc Nasri Theo

  29. Faceman

Unless Arshavin can produce some early magic, today could be one of those frustrating emirates saturday’s.

City with Robinho likley to be on the bench after a long haul back from Brazil will have no choice but to pack the midfield and play for a draw.

Northern monkey rules apply. Come to the emirates and play like a bunch of faggots, far too scared to come out and take us on fairly.

  30. North Bank Lew

    Morning all,

The official Man City site reports that Stephen Ireland has picked up an injury in training and is out of the match. Sweet.

Could be an ‘I remember when…’ match today – the first hook up between Arshavin and Fabregas on the cards and that could be something special. I for one can’t wait. I’ll be down my local with like minded West London Gooners to cheer the boys on.

  31. finestcuts

Tony S, I also dream of seeing that team, that would be brilliant and I hope Arsene will select them one day.
Total Mayhem would be if he played 3-5-2 and selected a defensive midfielder and instead of one of our centre backs, or played traroe as a wing back this would be interesting:

  32. irishgunner

    woohoo I’m expecting a 5-0 today.

Finally a bloody Arsenal game  feels like it has been an eternity

  33. rico01

Morning Everyone, what a beautiful sunny day, a great day to get plenty of clear views at the city goal, plenty of good vision to be able to see the vast amount of goals go in – 3-1 for me, and what a month we have ahead…

  34. kelsey

    Morning all,
is Given injured,he always has a blinder against us,in fact we should have bought him,but today we will nail them.

  35. irishgunner

ha ha TAIG glad I am not watching it 🙂

It used to be a good enough show but it has got really bad lately

  36. arsenalised

Irish:eboue scores five i’ll be over the moon, god knows tha crap he has been put through and he loves the arsenal, his body language just shows it

  37. tonyadamsisgod

Rico – what a miserable bum! This show isn’t half what it used to be! The Showboat is rediculous! Some bloke got on there for doing a step over! Thats not bloody showboating!

  38. rico01

TAIG – couldnt agree more, it just isnt the same since Lovejoy left – even though he is a chelsea fan..

  39. rico01

Talking of Lovejoy, loved his ‘its only ray parlour’ comment, just before the ball flew into the back of the chelsea net…..

  40. tonyadamsisgod

This Jade Goody saga is fucking rediculous! Its been on Sky news all morning! Thousands lining the streets! What a joke!

  41. arsenalised

Am starting to hate liverpool more and more their fans are talking too much shit,i hope tha mancs win tha league and nt liverfools

  42. irishgunner

Not a thing Nick except apparently Ronaldo is off to Real Madrid for £75mil

Nothing Arsenal except the youth academy have realised two young players

  43. lc

    Sagna- Toure- Djourou- Clichy.

    4-2-3-1. 3-1, Arsenal.

  44. nick

Ronaldo is having a miserable season his body language and attitude make ade’s look fantastic.
He is the one player that i can see why he would want to move at utd he has won all there is to win, don’t blame him for wanting a new challenge.
If i was a footballer id want to win everything every where as well and who wants to live in Manchester when you could live in Spain

  45. irishgunner

    Eduardo out of Villareal game

“I started with the program of rehabilitation. Club doctors anticipate for me to start normal practice by next Wednesday or Thursday.

This means that I will miss the next meeting on Saturday against Manchester City as well as the Champions League on Tuesday against Villareal.

If it goes as expected then I will need another eight days for the away game against Wigan”.

  46. irishgunner

Nick – I tend to agree with you. I think Ronaldo has lost interest at United. he has won every trophy with them hasn’t he?

EPL, FA Cup, CL, Carling Cup, World Club Trophy

  47. nick

if i was a pro id start in England then spain, italy, france, germany and then for the big pay day in America end up with a full trophy cabinet and fat bank balance.Has any player ever won it all?

  48. Faceman

We will go 4-5-1 against Villareal away, eduardo would have been a sub at best.

Its a game made for Adebayor lone role up front.

  49. irishgunner

that makes us a bit fecked for tuesday if RvP isn’t fit

we lose Arshavin anyway so it maybe Eboue in midfield if Nasri still has a flu

  50. Faceman

DIABY is the key man we need back for tuesday, more than cesc.

In a 4-5-1 system Diaby is the perfect link man between strikers and midfield.

  51. irishgunner

Can’t think of any off hand.

When Ronaldo moves to Madrid he’ll go a long way to winning the a lot since he has all that with United anyway. he could win Spanish titles with Madrid and then go on to Italy

  52. kelsey

I wasn’t going to bring this up,but as it has already mentioned,I find this whole Jane Goody saga pathetic and disteasteful.Furthermore Max Clifford, who i personally know,is just making his percentafe and has gone down a lot in my estimation.

of course for anyone to die so young is tragic, and unfortunately it happens on a daily basis. She became famous out of a reality rubbish show, and famous seems to have changed it’s definition.
jane tomlinson, was only in her thirties and ran and ran marathons, for the cause to raise moneyto fight cancer, not for her own family’s benefit.it’s sickthat this should get so much publicity in he media.

  53. arsenalised

Nick:i agree, ronaldo is fed up it pains me 2 say this but what a player i’d take him in my team over messi

  54. irishgunner

Faceman – Diaby has a hip injury, have you heard whether he’ll be fit??

Wenger said yesterday he has a “little, little, little” chance.

To be honest I’m a bit pissed off with Bilic. Croatia were 0-2 up against fecking Andorra and he playes Eddie for 90 mins.

  55. nick

Kelsey your right, sad but max is the real winner.Don’T blame the girl for making sure her kids are set id do the same wouldn’t you.

  56. Faceman

I don’t think any of the injuries are that serious.

RvP can take the week off, he style of play not really suited to a 4-5-1 anyway.

As i say, for the 4-5-1 we play on Tuesday, only diaby of the injured trio is needed.

  57. irishgunner

What annoyed me most about the whole Jade Goody thing was how people and the tabloids reacted.

One week she was labeled “little miss piggy” and a racist etc, the next she is the “rose of England” and “our Jade” – give me a break!!

I don’t blame her for making every penny she could for her kids though.

  58. PDT

For the Yellow Subs, AW will play Ade up front as the lone striker. Which means that we will have Theo/Eboue, Cesc, Denilson, Song and Nasri as the five man midfield.

    Assuming Nasri recovers…..

  59. irishgunner

who is this Rosicky you speak of PDT???

ha ha seriously is he playing a reserve game this week or something?

  60. PDT

irish, if Rosicky comes back (and I know it’s a big if), he will free Arshavin to roam and play as an out and out attacking midfielder. The two of them can rip any defence including (but not limited to) Barca’s ManU’s and the dippers to shreds!

Cesc can then focus on being the creative genius in the middle.

Cesc, Arshavin, Rosicky and Nasri! Dream midfield!

  61. Faceman

All this talk of Arshavin playing behind the striker is null and void for me.

Look at his best performances for us, russia and zenit… all from wide left, cutting inside.

  62. irishgunner

PDT – That would be such a cracking midfield. I think Arshavin would be at his very best just roaming around – a bit like Nasri is doing on and off but Arshavin is much more spontaneous

  63. irishgunner

of course Nick its not only the giving birth but the carrying around of extra weight for nine months, the morning sickness, the need to continually use the toilet, the cravings for weird stuff, losing the weight after the birth etc etc

  64. kelsey

final point. No i wouldn’t have done it,but that’s a personal decision, and anyway she has made millions before her death, her children are not desdetute.

The TV are making it into a State Funeral, says a lot about England as it is today.

  65. irishgunner

And of course you can’t drink or smoke if you do either or eat fish or have fresh ice-cream cones

  66. irishgunner

ha ha ha Nick I’ll have to take your word for it. I’m a very bad nurse of man flu though – no sympathy from me 🙂

  67. nick

Kelsey i agree 100% but the choice was there for her to do it and she took it, good on her.
it is a sad bigger picture of society today and the way the media conditions people.

  68. tonyadamsisgod

Kelsey, Nick – Dont you love the way that they have all this footage of jade and are making this into a massive media coverage bonanza and then along the news reel at the bottom they have the minor news that the taliban have claimed it was they who attacked and killed 13 people in a US immigration office! Unbelievable!

  69. nick

Makes me sick TAIG the news has been dumbed down so much the night garden looks like news at ten now.
So many people are under the spell of the press. myself and irish have had this discussion before Media studies should be compulsory from a young age, so people can read between the lines and form there own opinions

  70. G4ever

can some1 tell me really quickly if hollow way road station will be open since its matchday? i want to go to the pub down there before the game and the train normally doesnt stop there.

  71. nick

Irish did you see the look they all gave arshavin in his 1st game when he shot from outside the box, dont think its the done thing 🙂

  72. Stu

Its the first bloody match day in ages and ye are talking about the fecking meeeejia!!! I mean…for feck sake like.
    Anyway………any new team news?

  73. Stu

Only Toure is allowed to shoot from outside the box and thats a fact!

Imagine the scouling looks that Alonso would get if he came here and shot from his own half. Christ above, he would be crusified!
