Nik sets the records straight, Pele linked and you get to choose!

by & filed under Uncategorized.

First of all Nikki Bendtner came out and said all this ‘I should play every minute of every game’ was bollocks and I for one believe him, he was genuinely upset, saying it was tough to explain to his team mates what he did actually say, I think it’s another attempt by the British press to cause problems for the Arsenal.

I thought Nikki had an immense game against Cardiff and for me he is a far better option than Adebayor who really is up his own back passage, at least Nikki runs and runs and nearly gets the results, his goalscoring record isn’t at all bad and he is still young, I think he’ll be a great player for us and should get the nod over the Togo twat.

Press reports are suggesting we have an option on French goalkeeper Johan Pele, I don’t think we need him, we have too many French players for one and Fabianski for me is the real deal, and I feel very comfortable with him between the sticks, so let’s hope that rumour is just that, a rumour.

Much has been said about the effectiveness of Eboue, Song and Denilson, mostly by me, I think Denilson has a chance but the other two for me aren’t good enough. I also spend long periods arguing the toss with many of you and that gets boring, so today I will ask Pedro to do a ‘thingy’ where we can all have a say and vote on whether we as a group think they are good enough, whatever the result I will stand by it and not mention the three again. Hows that?

I am licking my lips at the prospects we have in team selection this weekend but have no doubt that Arshavin will feature, why spend £15 million on a player we won’t play? Question is, who will play?

I fancy this team, who do you fancy?

If fit.

Fabianski

Sagna Kolo Gallas Clichy

Nasri Diaby/Denilson Arshavin Vela

RVP Eduardo

When ready replace Diaby/Denilson with Cesc.

I really don’t think we need to worry about a defensive midfielder, we have enough skill in the team to keep the ball and regardless of what you think of Song, against Cardiff he hardly touched the ball, so I would stick a midfielder in there and play keep ball. I don’t know where this ‘defensive midfielder’ came from, I suspect it was started with Makelelé before that, they were just called ‘midfielders’ It’s just my opinion so please don’t start going back to the days of Tom Finney.

We should however go back to the time when we said, if you score two, we’ll score four, we played exciting football against a good Cardiff team on Monday and because we kept the ball and attacked, we made them look poor and didn’t get the credit we so rightfully deserved.

Vela should never be left out of this team again unless Rosicky is fit and Walcott can interchange with Nasri, that way we keep our team fit and fresh and we all know injuries will play a part.

I think we have sorted out out defensive woes and Kolo and Gallas look back to their imperious best, Johan is a great back up and we all know we’ll need that.

I think that Wenger can see what we need and Saturday will see us close the gap on the chavs and the Villa because I fancy a draw there, I think we’ll finish in the top 3 if not the top 2 and we’ll look back on this wobble and laugh, I think we’ll win the FA cup and the Champions league as well, because I think Monday saw the belief return.

I love the Arsenal and what has happened this season was the equivalent of seeing your wife kiss another bloke, but it was harmless, they had known each other as friends and there was nothing in it, my love has returned now and all is well. Arsenal have returned from the dark side, like Frodo did in Lord of the Rings, and don’t forget, that was a true story.

Fill out the poll and we can get on with life and start counting the trophies again. It’s at the top of the side bar —>

Have a great day Grovers, I’m not around today and won’t vote, that way I’ll remain impartial, it’s your call.

Rtist – I think he just meant Denilson has a different playing stlye to the players you normally associate with Brazil such as Ronaldinho, Kaka and Robinho.

  2. irishgunner

Chary – I’d go with the band t-shirt too 🙂 Is it an all standing gig? I went to The Police in Croke Park about 2 years ago and we had to sit – so booooooooooring

  3. A

he isn’t shite as a right back gazzap, i still think he should play ahead of sagna in some games, but he isn’t the best midfielder that’s granted.

really can’t wait for saturday, hopefully a nice draw with loads of injuries between chelsea and villa, then arshavin and eduardo braces along with one a piece from vela, bendtner, and vp. I’d leave the emirates a very happy man

  4. Wardo

RTIST, just had a quick look over yesterday’s comments…….can’t see that from Steve. Looks like you have mis read something.

cmon mate, dont be too sensitive

  5. Arsenal Tom

steve… look what you’ve done… your even meaner than rico!!

i hope your proud of yourself!?!?!

“a carbon based unit called “Steve””

are u like robocop then steve?

    what a clown

  6. dennisdamenace

Steve – I’m pretty certain there’s another steve, with a little ‘s’???? Although size isn’t important, thankfully 😯

  7. Steve

Don’t you start gazzap, I didn’t say it FFS.

This is like being 5 again trying to convince my mum I didn’t hit the kid next door.

  8. Pedro

Rtist, I can’t find that comment… I can’t find the term ‘race’ in the whole of yesterdays comments, I can find only one reference to the word ‘Brazilian’ and that was in relation to rum. I can’t find a Steve post where he said what you are alleging… I think you owe an apology.

  9. A

to be fair, i do remember the description of denilson being a disgrace to the brazilian race, but i don’t understand how that would be contrued that offensive! I interpretted it as saying that brazillians are incredibly skillfull, great dribblers etc, and denilson isn’t

  10. Angry Loner

A; Up till this season, i wouldve said we should keep Eboue as backup RB, but… Not any more, he needs to go. Way too much shite has happened and even if he did become a model pro he still would tarnish the club/team just by being at here. He would be yet another stick to hit us with.

  11. gazzap

ethan – would have to agree with ou there on the players that have caused our demise. Almunia, Ade, Song, Eboue and Diaby. at times Denilson through lack of experience and also Toure through lack of form. have to point the finger at wenger – he continually puts them on the pitch when better players are sat on the bench.

  12. Steve

I don’t claim be be Albert fucking Einstien but I know the difference between a country and a race. It sounds like something Geoff the xenaphobe would say to me.

  13. Kev

If you start Vela than that means Arshavin or Nasri don’t start, will that happen? No, Vela will be on bench. Eduardo first game in a year, he was shattered coming off, 2 starts in a 5 days with Wenger? No chance, will be on bench. You gotta start thinking here boys, think tank think tank think

the ? is do we want Chelsea to beat Villa or Villa to beat chelsea or draw? I personally think Chelsea to win, Chelsea money men will start playing now for Hiddank, they just were not for Schloari, they have much better team than Villa, Villa to run out of steam at crucial time and have never been in this position before

    To season ticket holders out there who weren’t aware;
The Burnley game is our 8th home cup game this season and so is not included in the season ticket. The cost is automatically added onto next years season ticket. I remember some recent confusion on this issue on here.

    From the AFC website:

Season Ticket Cup Tie Credits 2008/09 – GOLD MEMBERS ONLYAs you will probably be aware, your Arsenal season ticket includes admission to all 19 home Premier League matches, as well as the first seven home cup ties in European competitions and the FA Cup (please note, the Carling Cup is not included).

Due to our continued progress in cup competitions this season, the UEFA Champions League knockout round fixture against AS Roma on Tuesday 24th February is the seventh and therefore last pre-paid cup credit for the 2008/09 season.

Consequently, our FA Cup Fifth Round home fixture against Burnley, to be played on Sunday 8th March at 1:30pm, will be our eighth home cup tie in European competitions and the FA Cup, and is therefore not included within the price you have paid for your 2008/09 season ticket.

To summarise, please find below the seven cup tie credits used for the 2008/09 season:

seven cup tie credits used for the 2008/09 season Match Competition Opposition Credit number
13 Aug 2008 UEFA Champions League (3QR) FC Twente 1
30 Sep 2008 UEFA Champions League (Group Stage) FC Porto 2
5 Nov 2008 UEFA Champions League (Group Stage) Fenerbahce 3
25 Nov 2008 UEFA Champions League (Group Stage) Dynamo Kyiv 4
3 Jan 2009 FA Cup (Third Round) Plymouth Argyle 5
16 Feb 2009 FA Cup (Fourth Round Replay) Cardiff City 6
24 Feb 2009 UEFA Champions League (Knockout Round) AS Roma 7

In previous seasons, when we have played more than seven cup matches at home, season tickets have been automatically activated and the additional cost of extra matches has been added to the renewal price for the following season.

In an effort to assist our season ticket holders, we will be adopting the same policy this season by activating your current season ticket seat for the FA Cup Fifth Round match against Burnley.

Therefore, if you are a season ticket holder and wish to attend the match against Burnley, you just have to simply turn up with your season ticket and enter the stadium as normal.

However, if you do NOT wish to attend the FA Cup Fifth Round match against Burnley and would like to ‘opt out’ of this service, please follow the simple instructions below, which will deactivate your seat. Please note that you must deactivate your seat by 12 noon on Wednesday 25th February 2009.
Season Ticket Cup Tie ‘opt out’ process.

Simply log onto the Online Box Office (insert link) and enter your Gold membership number and valid password into the Member Login section. This facility will be available from 4pm on Wednesday 18th February 2009.
At this stage, you will be presented with the Ticket Hub. Please select ‘Click here to use Ticket Exchange’ (please note we are using the Ticket Exchange service to facilitate the ‘opt out’ process) and you will see your season ticket seat details.
If you wish to ‘opt out’, please select the Arsenal v Burnley game and ‘Sell’. Continue onto the next page, please choose the sale expiry date and time of 25/02/2009 12:00 (deadline date to opt out) and select ‘Continue’. You will now be presented with a summary of your seat details, please accept the terms & conditions and select ‘Sell Tickets’.
If you wish to ‘opt out’ for more than one season ticket, please repeat the above process for each seat.
Your seat(s) will now have been cancelled via the ‘opt out’ process using the Ticket Exchange service for the FA Cup Fifth Round match against Burnley. A confirmation email will be sent to you.
As previously mentioned, this ‘opt out’ facility closes at 12 noon on Wednesday 25th February 2009. If you have decided to ‘opt out’, your season ticket card(s) will obviously be deactivated for the FA Cup Fifth Round match against Burnley.
If you need any further assistance with this process, please call our Contact Centre on 020 7619 5000.

  15. Wardo

that was weird…….even if Steve said that, which he didn’t, is it that offensive…….

I think Rtist could be offended by a nun as calling Steve a “Carbon based unit” is obviously offensive in his world……..

Steve, you must be offended by that!! Have you ever been called a Carbon based unit before……i haven’t

  16. nick

Angry i agree send eboue packing i cant stand him and i don’t think he could produce the form of before at right back as somebody pointed out thet year the team made him look better then he was.

  17. Steve

Tell him to cunt off Pedro. Silly cunt.

I fucking hate pricks like that.

I wish I had said it now just so I could tell him to poke it up his poo hole.

  18. ethangunner

If you look at things in perspective denilson has developed quite well ..

how long did it take cesc playing EVERY WEEK since PV04’s departure too turn into a talent ?

denilson largely missed out last season bert- flamini- and diarra all in front of him in the line …. i think last season you could have counted his 1st team games on your hands .

He also needs to be surrounded by some experience to grow and learn .. and i dont call song or eboue that at all !

but trust me he will be a useful player in the future providing he continues to get game ..

  19. A

i don’t understand what shite has happened this season though loner? Eboue hadn’t done anything wrong in terms of his attitude this season until the spurs game. He hasn’t played well, but the only “shite” that’s happened is idiotic fans booing him! He’s seemed to be much better this season, the theatrics of a season or two ago were ten times what they are now, he’s cut the ridiculous diving and roling around largely out of his game!

  20. Steve

Wardo:), funny enough I was called a carbon based unit only this morning when I stood on mother Theresa’s foot. I took it to be a compliment.

  21. Pedro

Shit… who am I hanging out with in the S+B every week with?

Ethan, I agree… his stats are pretty handy as well. Hleb had a season where no one rated him… but his stats were great… the next year he got a move to Barca.

    I reckon he’ll come good.

    Link

  22. Steve

I don’t need to cuntface. I didn’t fucking say it. I couldn’t give a flying fuck if i’ve insulted you since, but I didn’t say that. I should have though.

Now fuck off and leave me in peace.

  23. Angry Loner

Steve; Thats what I meant when I said you were a disgrace to proper, full on bigots like geoff! Now he wouldnt mess around with mealy mouthed slightly unPC comments, when he could really stick it to a whole country’s inhabitants!

  24. A

i do remember someone saying it steve, no idea who it was though! just remember it cos i thought it was a bit weird, and was when i was defending denilson others were saying he’s shit etc. Don’t see how it would be seen as bad though, was just slip of the tongue/ignorance sort of thing to refer to a “brazilian race”! and wasn’t even being derogatory about it, was being positive about whatever the person considered the “brazilian race”, and being negative about denilson because he should be better being a part of it!

yeah nick he’s played shit a fair bit this season, though how shit he’s been has been massively exagerated at times, he’s still been far from good at right mid. He’s still given his all though, the only time he’s let down the club as such by being a dick was against spurs, and that’s no different from what vp did earlier in the season!

I’ve no idea how he’s become quite so much of a pantomime villain this season, i guess just because he became the scapegoat from the poor performances of the team as a whole, but he’d still be a very good right back sub, and should play ahead of sagna imo against some teams. This season his behaviour and attitude seems to have improved tenfold with the way he’s cut out the theatrics and feigning injury etc!

  27. nick

A i cant stand it when he plays the team don’t even look to go down the right because they know how bad he is you cant defend eboue so please stop trying

  28. ethangunner

    gazz

dont know whats going on with wenger lately ?
    i really dont ???

he seems to be making some very poor judgment calls on his own team ?! we all watch them every week too and how he doesnt see the basics is really starting to worry me …

training aside , tactically and team selection
i think i would have done a better job this season …

also dropping ade until he gets his fire back
is a necessary evil ! and it should have been done regularly until the necessary results where achieved !

and it started for me V’s spurs last season when we got knocked out of the C.Cup

ade on at 70 minutes – 4 goals down !
horse had already bolted and was in the next county !

    what is he thinking ?

why does he persist with these below average players ?
if you have talent on the bench ..
use it , it might make you famous !

  29. irishgunner

LOL MP you are too sweet 🙂

Pedro when are the results out?

Just wondering – if Season ticket holders can opt out of the Burnley match will it impede my chances of getting tickets??

  30. Pedro

    DDM, shit or what?

But seriously… If my bird rang me and said someone pushed in a queue… I’d tell her to piss of and tell someone who gave a shit.

Fuck me… what a sad cunt for getting in his car to have a row…

  31. charybdis1966

Steve, fella – I support you, I don’t see why RTist has to get insulted. My only contribution to this is the follwong: The phrase “carbon based life form” was first used by the character of Vejur’s vessel, Ilya, in the film “Star Trek – The Motion Picture”(1979).
Irish – there are standing and sitting areas at Wembley area and I went for the seated (didn;’t fancy the mosh pit) although pretty much everyone stands at their seats anyway. I can’t imagine the Hells Angels being sitting down if they’re told plus I seem to remember every other Priest concert I went to had the audience standing in all areas. Think I may take the ear plugs though.

  32. Angry Loner

A; He drifts in and out of games, his lapses are getting that long, the actual length of time he is focused on what he’s sposed to do is now is the shorter…

Maybe Im being unfair? But I do not see a viable option for him being at Arsenal, next season. No positions can he fill; RB; Sagna and GHoyte, Coquelin, Right midfield; Theo, Nasri, Arshavin, Rosicky…

    Nope!

  33. A

nick he incredible in the season we got to the champions league final, and got shortlisted for the european defender of the year award, he was absolutely brilliant that season at right back. To say otherwise is just stupidity, and shows how thick some football fans are that when they have their favourites they’ve never done anything wrong before, and anything they do wrong is someone elses fault, and likewise with their hated players they’ve never done anything good, and everything bad that happens is all their fault etc.

  34. gazzap

Mystery Solved. It wasn’t Steve that said about den being a disgrace, it was David. at 12:33am and 11:35pm on the day before yesterday’s post (where have all the centre backs gone).

  35. Steve

Fair enough Rtist. In your defence it gave us all a bit of a chuckle. Fuck, I haven’t been sent into a swearing frenzy like that for hours.

  36. A

i think he should play against the crap teams who just try and defend ahead of sagna loner, as well as being back up right back.

gavin hoyte is even worse than justin, he could MAYBE become as good as justin and make a career in the prem, he’ll never be a good right back sub for us though coquelin could be fantastic there, but i’m not sure whether it’ll happen next season. Coquelin could play at times but i’m sure eboue will still be at the club next season as back up for sagna, because although coquelin will be amazing, if sagna was out for a while he won’t be ready to jump straight in and start big prem games.

Eboue’s midfield career should be over though!

  37. Big Raddy

Actually Rtist has really pissed me off.

If I feel so unhappy that I am still smarting the day after, I hope I would have the balls to directly question the guy who pissed me off.

The opinions of an individual are not those of the whole of Le Grove, and yet this knob assumes that it is. There are people writing on Le Grove that I wouldn’t give the time of day. But, I respect their right to an opinion, and if I disagree, I tell them.

Rtist is the sort of bloke who complains to his Mrs about the racist at work, rather than confront him.

    Lame, just Lame

  38. nick

A yep thats me thick as shit eboue this season is FUCKING SHIT based on that i dont care about 2 years ago when he was good or the fact in 3 years he might be good now he has played constant crap i dont like him i would sell him.

  39. Angry Loner

A; Before we know it, it will be 10 years since the champions league performances and peoploe will still be using it as a reason to think Eboue’s worth keeping! 😀

  40. charybdis1966

Well at least you’ve been exonerated Steve. No one impressed by my knowledge of film sci-fi there then ?

    Thought not.

  41. Steve

Pedro, I’m off for a couple of days. Please print the results today??

    Pretty please.

I’ll buy you an extra Peroni on Saturday.

  42. Steve

At least we’ll be able to spot you at the S + B chary.

Big thick glasses, spots and brylcream. Doind a funny hand waving thing.:)

  43. A

pedro he was amazing that season as a right back, and still could be, he was shortlisted for best defender in europe! I remember being amazed at the way he kept robinho in his pocket, yet defended really well too.

He wasn’t THAT good defensively, sagna is far better, but eboue is far better than sagna could ever be going forward, so i’d still keep eboue and play him against teams who aren’t as strong.

Wenger did feel the need to replace him with sagna who’s better defensively, but not just because of his defensive deficiencies, it also had alot to do with our changing the style of play, playing at a much higher tempo, closing down and pressing etc, with flamini centre mid, rather than having gilberto playing much deeper where he could cover for eboue.

angry eboue is still a good right back, that’s just the only time he’s played a whole season there! He’s still very good right back cover imo

  44. A

angry you can’t say hoyte just hasn’t had chances, he won’t make it because he doesn’t have the talent, eboue was a very good right back, but a poor right mid, it doesn’t mean he doesn’t have ability or is just “shit” now, he’d still be a good right back. i havn’t been given the chances eboue has, it doesn’t mean i could make it!!

  45. gazzap

there is the worry that even if Eboue turns out at RB he may get a really bad reception especially at the Emirates. certainly at RW, his mistakes would no longer be tolerated and it would put huge pressure on the whole team.

but in principal I agree, a back up to Sagna at RB is where he should have been all season. If we were short in midfield then Ramsey, Wilshere or Vela should have been in the team.

  46. nick

Eboue has shown not only he is no rm but he has floors that piss me off illusions of grandeur petulance,he could still defend from rm witch he does woefully let it go will you.

  47. Big Raddy

    True A.

Eboue is not a “shit” player. however he is a genuinely unpleasant man. He is a cheat, a cry-baby, a man who takes no responsibility for his actions, and a fantasist.

He is a embarrassment to the shirt, and the fans.

He may well be a fine RB. But for me that is just not enough.

  48. Steve

I was wondering nick until he came back and apologised when he realised it wasn’t me. Anyone on a wind up would surely have left it. I thought you were all in on it at one stage with the subsequent replies. I was half laughing and half fucked off that the fella wouldn’t believe it wasn’t me 🙂

Pedro has since got rid of his comments so it looks like i’m a fucking schiziphrenic having a swearing match with myself.

  49. Rasputin

Steve – I think the whole thing was a misquote…..it should have read…”It’s no disgrace to have a brazillian on your face” 😉

  50. Ja_Gunner

    I agree with A.

I think Eboue has been immature etc….but I believe he can be kept as backup right back.

He is not as good defensively as Sagna but he offers more to the attack as a right back.

So when we play teams that park the bus in front of goal I think we can play Eboue so that Sagna is fresh and fit to take on the bigger teams.

  51. Pedro

A, I think you are romanticising his role at right back… if he was that good, Wenger wouldn’t have replaced him. That would be like ManU replacing Vidic with Chiellini… there would be no point?

  52. Ja_Gunner

I see United is on a 8 game winning streak in the league.

Everyone has said the next seven games are key because Aston Villa in the next seven games will be playing….

    Chelsea
    Stoke
    Man City
    Tottenham
    Liverpool
    Manure
    Everton

    We will be playing

    Sunderland
    Fulham
    West Brom
    Blackburn
    Newcastle
    Man City
    Wigan

These are all winnable games. We need to go on a streak like Manure ..or we should win at least 5 or 6 of the 7 to possibly pass Villa.

  53. raif

Hello Grovers. so glad to see Dudu get back to were he left off. i cant wait to see him and Arshavin on Saturday. im looking forword to seeing us rip them a new arse hole

  54. charybdis1966

Crikey – my first ever yellow Pedro. But I don’t get out much(or I didn’t in the 80’s and 90’s) so know too much about that kinda stuff.
Still I didn’t get carded for my Nelson Riddle reference the other day, so fairy muff.

  55. nick

Pedro A sees eboue completely diffrant from us,yes he had some good displays at rightback not great and that was two years ago.his played rm since so how A knows he would be good at right back is beyond me

  56. Steve

Throw Burnley and Hull/Sheffield United in the mix Ja_Gunner and we could have some very happy times ahead.

I can’t wait to go to the new Wembley, haven’t been yet.

Ras, there is certainly no disgrace in that mate.

nick, was funny after. I had the proper hump at the time:)

  57. Pedro

Nick, so many people still use that cross he made to Thierry a few years ago as justification for his inclusion in the team…

  58. Rasputin

Did anyone notice that Sagna put in some quality crosses against Cardiff. He’s still floating them rather than whipping them in, but he was unlucky not to have got an assist or two. Maybe the unthinkable has happened and a player has worked on a weakness in training to good effect. Mind you, there’s not much you can do about Ade’s first touch!

Pedro, most of us were surprised when Wenger bought Sagna. Obviously pleased now but Eboue must have been doing something right.

Steve, i wasnt Suprised when wenger got Sagna.

if you cast ur mind back eboue looked good going forword but had nothing going back or defending, it was one of the resons why we let in so many goals,

i say this as i remember moaning about him all the time. 😉

Other good things the Pass master has done:
    1. Booted that cnut John Terry in the head
    2. The cross for the boy wonders stunner against the Robins.
    3. Err, that’s it.

  62. Steve

The cross for TH14 against the Mancs and i’m sure it was Eboue who dived to win the free kick from which Sol scored against Barca.

I can’t believe i’m defending the useless prick now.

nick – a little bit, but he has a way to go for me, but as i said previous, i dont take to him much, but if he scores goals, then i will rate him as a footballer, i would prefer to see Dudu and RvP on Saturday 😉

I think its funny that all gooners can remember Eboue’s 5 good moments in an Arsenal shirt. I actually think that says more about him in a negative way than a positive one.
Vela had more than 5 good moments on Monday night FFS!

I agree with most people that Eboue is at best back up to Sagna but the idea that we should keep him solely for that role is flawed. Sagna seems to be rarely injured so is Eboue expected to sit on the bench for pretty much the whole of the season? If he is not playing in the first team do you think he should keep fit by playing in the reserves? If he did he would be denying important playing time to our up and coming 17 year olds.
When we used to like Eboue; he was playing RB; he would get down that wing before whipping in some very good crosses; in many ways it is understandable why Wenger gave him a chance to play on the wing but it has failed and with Coquelin being ready to be cover for Sagna, Eboue should be sold in the summer. As a right back, he is worth around 12 mil, which could go to buying a player more necessary to our needs that Eboue.
