Exclusive Diaby interview + Goals, Goals, Goals!

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Morning Grovers, it’s my first post in a while… and it’s a bleary eyed one… many beers were consumed last night and I wont lie… mainly because if I was going to sit and watch us grind out an unconvincing 1-0 win… I was going to do it off my face on cold, refreshing Peroni.

I rolled into the ground to hear the name I’d been waiting to hear for a year… Eduardooooooo! The roar that went out for him was passionate… it was great to see the Crozilian back in the team after such a horrific injury. It was also great to see a proper wide man playing in a wide position. Carlos Vela was treated to a rare start.

Sagna Toure Gallas Gibbs

Vela Song Denilson Nasri

Eduardo Nik B

As soon as the game kicked off, you knew Arsenal weren’t going to be beaten. There seemed to be renewed belief round the stadium last night, like maybe tonight could be the spring board for our season… and it didn’t take long for that belief to be rewarded. Eduardo played in Carlos Vela, turned out into the box… Carlos chipped a sublime cross onto the head of Eduardo who buried it high into the left corner of the net… Everyone went ballistic! Fantastic… Eddy was back, and that goal meant a lot to the striker who’d been out for 51 weeks.

The next goal didn’t take long either… Arsenal were carving out chances like attacking play was going out of fashion. Someone put something in the players water bottles and it wasn’t crab juice…

Our next goal came from a corner… Nik B rose like a jumping gazel (Why does it have to be a salmon?) to direct a glancing header past the hapless Cardiff keeper.

2-0 up and cruising… how many times have we been able to boast that this season?

Nik B was worked extremely hard for the team… but as usual, he had to do something silly. Vela powered a shot across the keeper who parried it… all Nik had to do was slot the ball in the empty net, but he somehow managed to hit the post and miss the rebound. When the replay went up, the gasps were almost as loud as the earlier Eduardo cheers! Read here to get the low down on Niks comments from yesterday…

The second half started… more beer had been consumed… and due to the emptiness of the stadium… I spotted a rarity… An Arsenal player sitting 4 rows up…

Beer + Excitement = embarrassing moment when grown man decides he would like to go and sit next to player.

So off I went… I asked Diaby how he was, he said

Then I asked if he spoke English?

‘Yes my English is very good’

Then his agent asked me to stop talking to him, to which I replied…

‘No way, Diaby is my hero and I’ll give him a bad write up if you don’t let me talk to him…’

To which the agent said,

‘You sit next to him then.’

So I did… I asked him where he sees himself playing for the team… he said in France he loved to play in hole as a second striker. He wouldn’t budge on who he liked and disliked and he said he was definitely enjoying life in England and he’d be here next season. At this point I decided that my 10 minute interrogation of him was probably a bit annoying… so I left him alone… leaving a stray hand on his leg for reassurance.

Anyway… then I looked up, Eduardo had been cynically bought down in the box, the ref blew up and pointed to the spot… cue an Eduardo net buster of a penalty! Superb… what a way to make your comeback!

Eduardo went off to a standing ovation and was replaced by RvP… a man who I can honestly say looked hungrier than ever to get on the score sheet. Finally that opportunity came when Nik B rolled in a beautifully weighted pass which Robin slotted home convincingly. He fist pumped at the crowd and we were all pleased we could go home with a smile on our face.

I can confirm Diaby did leave with 7 minutes to spare… bloody club level plastics

Fabianski: Solid game from our slightly hyperactive number 2. He didn’t really have much to do bar sweeping up any loose balls that landed in our half (Literally in our half… he’s like one of those jack russel’s that sees a ball and must chase it down). 7

Gibbs: I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if Arsenal were a factory, we could boast the finest left back production line in the world. Once again Arsene has another potential gem on his hands. Gibbs is composed on the ball, a dream going forward and full of pace. His defending is sometimes a bit of… but he has many years on his side. 7

Toure: Funny game from Kolo… he was tearing about all over the place last night, and he dropped a few clangers… but he is Kolo, and I love him. 6

Gallas: Another assured performance from a man who, for the first time is looking like a £90k a week defender. 7

Sagna: Managed to play a nice cross into the box. Quiet night for the Frenchman. 7

Vela: What we’ve been waiting for… a creative pacey wide man who can spark a midfield into action. I thought he had a tidy game last night without being exceptional. I think he banished any presumptions about strength by putting in a few good tackles… for me, he needs to be given a fair crack at the whip… because he is miles better than the unproductive Ivorian I care not to mention. 8

Song: Another solid game from the Cameronian. Nothing spectacular… but improving. 6

Denilson: I thought he had a top game in the middle of the park. He was tenacious and had a renewed vigour about his game. I honestly think he’ll become a good player for the club and I think a lot of the criticism of him has been unfair this year. 7.5

Nasri: Another good performance from our floating Frenchman. He glides across the pitch wherever he senses he can cause problems. If he can add a decent final ball to his game, we’ll soon start getting a bit of value for money from him. 7.5

Eduardo: It’s nice having a striker with really terrific movement. Eduardo knows where to be to get on the score sheet… and he seems to live for the goals unlike some of our other strikers. I expect to see a more involved Eduardo this year (In the team effort) and I expect to see him starting more often than not. RvP and Eduardo could be a pretty special partnership… and it’s probably one of the few we haven’t really seen. 9

Nik B: You can’t fault the lad for effort. He works his socks off for the team and he is starting to throw his weight about up front. He knocked in a good header and he went close on a few other occasions. I really think he’ll come good this season in a Flamini-esque kind of way. One goal, one assist… who’s complaining? 8

A convincing win and two easy games to make it to the exciting rounds of the FA Cup! Our football seemed to click into gear last night, so lets kick on from this and make something happen this year!

Have a great day Grovers!

Saying Kolo is captain, when he plays, was a bit of a fuck up IMO, seeing as how Gallas is playing loads better than him. I really hope AW aint thinking of keepin em as a pair long term. Maybe in Europe they can play together, but Id much rather JD & Gallas in the league

  2. David

i think those two Vela and Nikki B have always played well together…and Vela can literally dance his way into the penalty box at will…his that skillful on the ball….having said that So is Diaby!

  3. Paulinho

Yeah Irish, didn’t sound like the guy who does gift grub. Not as good.

Surprised Kenyon took so long to realise and was so open about stuff like wages.

  4. irishgunner

Paulinho – yep gift grub is funny they are very good at doing Wenger. Your man that does gift grub – Mario – got caught out one day by Ronan Keating for a tv show it was hilarious.

Kenyon probably was been coy in case it was real lol

  5. irishgunner

    Still got my hat-trick 🙂

Is it that easy to get through to a CEO/chairman of a club like that? I must try and ring Peter Hill-Wood ask him can I become next manager so as to not make Arsenal look sexist 🙂

  6. Paulinho

Yep, heard that too Irish. Only on the radio though, not sure if it was on tv…?

He’s amazing, especially his Roy Keane and Bobby Robson impressions. Mario Rosenstock I think his name is.

  7. irishgunner

Paulinho – yep he used to be in an Irish sitcom set on a farm called Glenroe LOL.

There’s an Irish show called “annoymous” where they get celebrities to put on disguises and they got Ronan Keating to do it – he was really funny. Anyway he was on the “set” of an interview with Mario and the “presenter” was egging him on to do Ronan and he did little realising Keating was sat beside him – very very funny.

Oh did you see the one of him doing Staunton to the tune of “Stan” by Eminem – pure class 🙂

  8. Wardo

Does anyone know where i can get the home shirt in long sleeve…….I always end up with the short sleeve ones. Been looking for ages……in fact, I think I have only ever seen a Large LS shirt on sale in the Arsenal shop….never medium !!!

  9. Keyser

Bendtner plays for Arsenal so he automatically gets the benefit of the doubt, for a 3rd/4th choice striker at the age of 20 he’s doing pretty well for himself.

  10. charybdis1966

I think they only stock for fat bastards at most shops Wardo. You’re best off trying on line somewhere. I’ve been considering a retro shirt as an alternative to the present day ones(maybe the blue/yellow from the 79 FA Cup final).

  11. dennisdamenace

They sell ’em out here in Brussels Dennis, they be the dog’s naggers, very excellent with a cold beer…..

  12. dennisdamenace

Do you know what Dennis? That’s a fecking good idea, i can just picture it now, live footie, cold Peroni and Wasabi peanuts……Chaaaafuckingmon!!

  13. dennisdamenace

D’you know what Dennis, i’m thinking of changing the name of Le Grove to Le Dennis, what d’ya think fella??

  14. dennisdamenace

Hmmmm, personally and imho i’d like to see the usual suspects outted, but i’d be prepared to send Denilson out on loan, to a good team. I’d hold onto Diaby for another season to see if he can progress. But, as for dumb and dumber, i’d out ’em both! Definitely Eboue, but Song only if we get someone who’s better in that ‘role’, you know someone like a lead lined fucking dustbin!!!!

  15. dennisdamenace

Interesting Dennis, i kinda agree, being serious the outs, to a degree depend really on who we might be able to get in!

Also, who do we have as a credible back up to Sagna??

  16. dennisdamenace

Hmmmm, i dunno, i’m gonna go and have a little ‘sit down’, if you know what i mean, and give some thought….

  17. dennisdamenace

This’ll cheer you up Dennis –

Thirteen year old dad Alfie Patten has joined fathers for justice, as he already has the Spider Man costume!!!!

  18. Ja_Gunner

    For Sunderland

    ………RVP……..Nick B……..

Eddy and company to come after 60 mins or so.

I would prefer to see Arshavin start and play 60 mins, than coming on from the bench. Remember he cant play in the CL so we might as well start him on the left and save Vela for that position against Roma.

    For Roma

I put Djourou in at right back because Sagna may need a rest soon.
And I know most ppl would crucify me if I said play Eboue for him lol.

We just need to concentrate on keeping a clean sheet against ROma at home.

If we do this then Roma must attack at home because they would have to win the game outright to advance.
If there is a scoring draw, then we would go through.

  19. Big Raddy

No disrespect mate, but you are talking bollocks…

Wasabi Nuts are for girls, and homosexuals. There is only one Man’s nut, and that is the mighty Almond

  20. Ja_Gunner

    Adjustment to the Roma formation.

Something like that to keep it tight. RVP and Nasri could constantly interchange.

  21. A

ja i agree with everything apart from djourou at right back, which would just be ridiculous! In that defence toure should move to right back, otherwise eboue right back obviously miles before djourou, and i’d even draft in coquelin at right back before putting eboue there!!

really annoyed club saying roma tickets not sold out now, was contemplating missing the sunderland and fulham games and saving up to go to roma, but said they were sold out, now can’t afford it

  22. dennisdamenace

Honestly though, these feckers they sell out here, tear the roof off of yer mouth, and leave you with colon breath!!

  23. kirby

yeah good thanks dennis just laughing at the comments i mainly read, then every so often ad some comments! but enjoy everyone debating about song denilson eboue and bendtner

  24. dennisdamenace

Well 4-0, and Dudu back and scoring, fucking wunnerful, the last time i felt that elated was when Dennis got his first goal for us, when we beat the toilets at Shite Lane 5-0 (Braaaaaaaaady) and when i lost 4lbs in one sitting on Le Pan!

  25. A

agree again ja, you say exactly what im thinking with these teams, apart from the djourou thing.

regarding sagna needing a rest, i’d play eboue ahead of him in games like at home to sunderland, or fulham, as it’d give sagna a rest, and eboue is much much better going forward, which would be more important against lesser opposition

  26. dennisdamenace

Cor blimey kirby, the Song/Eboue/Denilson et al debate is running longer than Coronation Street.

Don’t get me wrong i’ve got VERY strong opinions about those muppets, but at the moment i’d rather bask in the glow of last nights performance 🙂

  27. A

yeah they are kirby, just saw it says on arse.com
i looked a little while ago before i bought sunderland and fulham tickets. I had a tiny bit of money saved up, but being currently unemployed no way i can afford both, very annoying! maybe il make a bet or two tomorrow try win the money for it!

  28. Gunner8

Peaches if you’re still around I will be wearing my Samba Haivanas come rain, snow or Sunshine

  29. Big Raddy

I would have to agree about the almonds DDM.

It seems that they are indeed a cakemakers delight. And as you so rightly point out, they have a tendency to “bat left handed” (not that I have a problem with that – being oh so PC)

  30. Gunner8

    errr dunno, i haven’t had a pair of doc’s since 1989

I’m off sorry I cannae keep you company but I am knackered

  31. Ja_Gunner

Yeah I only put Djourou there cause I thought I would be crucified for putting eboue there.

But I def think Sagna needs some rest in between because we need him for the run in against our rivals/champions league.

So I would definitely play Eboue for games against Sunderland and or FUlham or other teams of that nature so that Sagna is fully fit for the crunch games…and as you said Eboue is probably a better attacking right back.

Did the Cardiff game count towards Eboue’s ban?

  32. Big Raddy

There is no way the ground will sell out, but I wouldn’t travel without a ticket to be with the Arse fans. The Roma boys can be a little aggressive I hear.

I went to Torino a few years back and the Italian fans were firing rockets at us. The Carabinieri just watched. Bastards. And before we went in the ground, they took away anything solid in our pockets just in case… shame they didn’t do that with their own. A poor woman in front of me got badly burned.

  33. Ja_Gunner

I would not mind seeing Eboue at right back because it would mean that Sagna is fresh for ROma.

Also I hope Arsene has scolded him and all that so that he doesnt feel that him getting a start means he is totally off the hook.

  34. A

cheers for the info raddy, that is something i was considering, as the £270 prices for travel packages on main site is out of my price range. Probably just gonna leave it. I’ve never been to an away match in europe as i was a poor student and a kid before that, but determined to at some point this season! Have to get myself a decently paid job get funding to go to the barca game in semis! If anyone on here is hiring then gimme a shout….!

  35. ReVELAtion

oh, i’m glad to see the euphoria or a goal scoring eduardo return is still about.. What more can you say that hasn’t already been said? Absolutely terrific!

Bendtner had a great game last night… yes, some balls went astray and that glaring miss aside he held the ball up, brought others into the game and got a well deserved goal and assist to boot… Played like his big bullox comments in the mirror yesterday… But can he sustain that sort of form?

True to word, every striker is fighting for a place wioth a fit eduardo and an Arshavin addition.. Adebayor had better sort himself out.. I’m not going to desend into the vitriol he seems to have reserved in hindsight of our dominating display against cardiff as on his day adebayor is unplayable!

But like most fans and pundits i’m still left wondering “where has he gone”?

Better displays from denilson and song, but i remain unconvinced about either two, but they are largely starters in our unbeaten run of 12 to date.. Either must start to add assists and/or goals or add dominance in the centre of the park in high profile clashes to their game to cement their place in a starting 11 alongside a fit fabregas…

With Theo, Rosicky, and Fabregas all close to returning to full 1st team training coinsidered with our better defensive displays… I’m starting to think that a top 4 finish and cup win isn’t out of the question…

Home ties against burnley and one of hull and sheffield utd should give us a relatively nice passage into the cup semi’s where we’ll probably take on the mancs, chavs or toffees..

‘Tis a good day to be a gooner, oh yes! More please… Arshavin debut goal coming off the bench on saturday.. Weh-hey!

  36. ReVELAtion

Nicklas Bendtner has denied saying that he should play ‘every minute of every game’ for Arsenal.

Reports on Monday quoted the Danish striker as suggesting he should be an ever-present for the Gunners regardless of who is fit at the time.

However, Bendtner claims that an interview given to the press in his homeland has been misinterpreted, refuting suggestions that he made such brash comments.

“I’ve never said anything like what they put in the newspapers,” he told the Arsenal magazine.
    Not true

“It makes me upset because it comes across really bad.

“None of it was said like that. Basically, I did a long interview for the Danish press recently, they asked me a lot of questions and the press over here have taken my answers and twisted them out of proportion.

“I was happy with the article in the Danish magazine and if you saw it you would realise that what was reported over here was not true.

“There is nothing you can do about it when they change what has been said and it’s annoying because it makes people think ‘what is he playing at?’

“If I feel the need to say something to my team-mates to explain it then I will do, but they know that I am right behind the team and wouldn’t say things like that.”

  37. Big Raddy

It has to be said that Hazelnuts have much to offer. Particularly when surrounded by lashes of chocolate.

Who can be surprised at the behaviour of lazy tabloid journos. What a bunch of overpaid lowlife they are.
