The irony of resting players… why we can afford Arshavin now!

by & filed under Uncategorized.

The irony of drawing against Cardiff is that the team put out to play that game was only so weak because we were resting players… now we have added another tricky fixture to our schedule. Some people are ok with the draw… but I happen to think we’ve missed a good opportunity to keep a winning streak going… plus risked possible injuries in an unnecessary game.

Fabianski
Sagna Djourou Toure Gibbs
Eboue Ramsey Song Nasri
Bendtner RVP

I can’t understand the persistence with Eboue… The stability argument doesn’t rub anymore… there is nothing stable about a player who gives the ball away 60% of the time… he doesn’t even know which position he is playing in. So why does he keep getting the nod? I was a bit wary about playing Song and Ramsey in the middle… Ramsey becuase of his inexperience and the pressure… Song for obvious reasons. I would preferred to have seen Denilson and Nasri in the middle… Rambo out wide right… Vela left (Or Wilshere due to the injury).

Still, we had what we had…

The first half was a poor showing from Arsenal. We struggled to get any sort of passing rhythm going, we were second to most balls and the midfield, bar Song… didn’t really offer anything. Even when Song is playing ok, he still doesn’t offer us the pace or drive the current set up need from a centre midfielder.

Ramsey was terribly off the pace today and showed why he isn’t yet ready to stake a claim on a starting berth. Eboue was pretty dire for the first half. He was once again deployed in the ‘free role’ and he rarely offered us width. He was harshly booked after going down easily in the Cardiff box… but like I said earlier in the season, when you get yourself a name for being a cheat, that type of stuff happens.

As chances went, Cardiff had the better. McCormick caused us problems all afternoon. He went close early on with a glancing header… he also blazed a shot just wide shortly after. The fact of the matter was Cardiff didn’t hit the target, so Arsenal were let off.

Arsenal had a few half chances, with Nasri going closest. He was played in sublimely by RvP… but instead of letting rip early, he took his time, made a couple of phone calls, put the kettle on… then weakly shot right of the keeper who saved with ease. Nik B went close twice as did Kieren Gibbs. The story of the first half was all about how well Cardiff played against a top 4 team… and how Arsenal had failed to be at the races against a weaker team.

The second half began and I was hoping for a more urgent Arsenal. We kind of got that, but we still had the same issue we’ve had most of the year… no penetration. The whole midfield lacks that winning mentality you look for in a world class team. You get the impression some of the players expect to win without having to work hard for it… which I guess is why we saw a casual approach to nicking a winner.

Things started to look promising when Ade came on for the disappointing Eboue (Why was he shaking his head?). Ade ruffled Cardiff’s feathers straight away when he played in RvP from a long ball… who struggled but did manage to get a shot off, only to be saved by Enkleman. Not long after that, RvP chipped a cross to the unmarked Togan… who shinned the ball into the ground in ridiculous fashion. I know Ade isn’t getting the service he was last yaer… but for £80k a week, you do expect a little more from him. I’m not saying he should have scored it… but he could have at least worked the target.

For all the possession Arsenal held… we didn’t really test the keeper. Cardiff went close late on with a ripper of a freekick that hit the bar. The game fizzled out… and a replay for 9000 Cardiff City fans was ensured.

Player Ratings:

Fabianski: Someone must have slipped a Ritalin pill in his lucozade before the game because I thought he showed an unusual amount of composure and calmness today. He made a couple of smart saves and commanded his area well. 7

Sagna: Not his best game in a yellow and blue shirt. I thought he was a little erratic and last ditch at times. His crossing was nothing short of woeful. 6

Toure: I didn’t really think too much of the defense today. Kolo made a bad error early on, but my issue was more with the defence as a unit… I didn’t feel it was very cohesive… Kolo should really have addressed that. 6

JD: Again, not a great defensive performance… but a clean sheet. 6.5

Gibbs: Considering his age and lack of playing time, I thought he did well against an organised Cardiff team. He also went close in the first half for a goal. A solid back up for Clichy. 7

Nasri: Anonymous in the first half, bar the earlier described miss. I wish he’d show more desire for the ball when he isn’t playing well. He has the ability to change games, but he’ll never do that without the ball at his feet… Wilshere at his tender age is a great example of a player who always wants the ball…. Nasri was better in the second half, and offered us a lot more creatively… but I still think a player with his talent should be doing more. 7.5

Song: I know there were a lot of people slating Song before the game, but I thought he did pretty well today. His passing in the main was pretty sharp and he made a few solid tackles and quietly got on with his job…. he even won a race with Joe Ledley! He faded as the game went on, but considering how much extra work he had to do next to Rambo… I thought he did himself proud. I don’t think he is the future there because he lacks the right qualities, but hopefully he can begin an upward curve of improvement. 7.5

Rambo: I was pretty shocked that the 18 year old was given a start considering the importance of winning the FA Cup this year. He was roundly booed all game by the Cardiff faithful and it rattled him. His passing wasn’t sharp and he wasn’t as direct as he has been in previous games. When things weren’t going his way, he started to force things and that made matter worse. Great talent, bad game… 5

Eboue: Not really sure where he was playing today… but I don’t suppose it mattered. He was poor again and didn’t really offer us anything anywhere… I will be surprised if he signs a new contract with us because he really is disliked by a majority of Gooners… and a majority of pundits. He’s just not Arsenal class, and I don’t know how many years Arsene is going to give him before he lets him go. 4

NiK B: I thought he played ok today… lady luck wasn’t on his side, but I thought he worked hard… RvP seems reluctant to pass to him sometimes. I suppose the first half of the season is still fresh in the memory for the Dutchman… hopefully the trust will come back soon. 7

RvP: I love watching Robin play… he holds the ball up as well as Kanu used to and he creates chances. I would like to see him score a few more, but I think the goals will come in time… probably when we sign someone with a bit of creativity. 8

Subs:

Adebayor: Shook things up when he came on but guilty of a poor miss. 5

Jack: Brought on with 3 minutes to go… should have come on earlier. 6

Diaby: Came on, made some poor passes… lost the ball a few times and added nothing to the team. He has bundles of talent, but if he never uses it… he is a bit pointless. 5

I am pretty sure Arsenal were one of the only teams in the Prem who fielded a weakened team yesterday, and that is disappointing. Are our players that precious they can’t get it together for an FA Cup game? Others may not agree, but I find it deeply frustrating to know that we purposely fielded a weakened team in the Carling Cup… then in the FA Cup. We should show the competition some respect…

… but on a positive note (stolen from the comments):

  1. No one was injured
  2. We’re now 9 games unbeaten
  3. An extra game will mean an extra £3.1 million in the bank… so we can now sign Arshavin!

Have a great Monday Grovers!

I went to a good few Limerick 37 last season – think we’re in a with a shout of promotion. I don’t care if Ireland have to bore their way to WC 2010 as long as we get there

Keyser – I think Dunne is a good defender. Don’t know what has happened to him

  2. Nightman

It would have been 4-nil or 4-1 Arsenal if we had SAMIR NASRI playing where he belongs…

WE NEED TO GET THE WORD OUT GUYS…..maybe make a CHANT like “NASRI TO THE MIDDLE” or something….

Arsene needs to know that this is what is KEY…

Cesc doesnt come back until april and we need someone to pull the strings, the thing is we HAVE that person, lets get him in there….

  3. dennisdamenace

Hmmmmm, quite interesting that ever since Hughes took over at Man Citeh one of the toughest, most reliable CB pairings in the EPL have gone tits up……

  4. Keyser

They were good for half a season under Sven as the whole team steped up, a bit of pressure and you get players falling apart, we look at these defenders who play well for teams below us in the league thin they’d be excellant for us or better than players we have forgetting they don’t just have to put in the same sort of performances for us they have to up their game.

  5. Stu

Nightman, although Nasri is a quality playmaker theres no telling that he would perform as a CM. The only way i could see him in the middle is in a 4-5-1 and Wenger wont do that. He has only played centrally when we were chacing a game and there was little attacking threat from the opposition.

Plus, if Nasri goes into the middle, who will play wide? Eboue and Diaby?

  6. Nightman

NASRI IS SHIT ABSOLUTE SHIT OUT WIDE, he contributes next to nothing 80% of the game

He is GREAT in the middle….put VELA or DIABY or Wilshere out on the left they would be much more effective….

Put Nasri in the center next to Song or Eboue…

Theo or Eboue on the right

  7. Nightman

Excuse me Nasri in the middle next to Song or Denilson** (not Eboue)

Denilson is also shit out wide and should never be put there again, only is we are 3-1 ahead and need to hold the lead

  8. Jay

    When Theo comes back..

    Theo–Nasri–Denilson-Diaby

That would be decent – Even put Gibbs on the left as he has lots of talent.

  9. Stu

So Nightman, you would prefer Diaby than Nasri at left midfield. We already have so many problems-why are you looking for more? Daby is hopeless on the left!

  10. Nightman

Exactly what I was thinking Jay….

Now we need to come up with some chant so that the FUCKING THICK manager can get it in his head that this would WIN US MATCHES

I am SICK AND TIRED of playing unattractive, uncreative football for 77mins and then getting a goal that we didnt deserve all that much so that we can win 1-0 or 2-1

Lets get that chant going….I have never made one before so I dont think I could come up with a great one, but I will try

  11. Nightman

Stu – I would actually want Vela or Wilshere to Diaby or Nasri

Nasri is too slow for that position….he really does NOTHING for a lot of the game…why be on the left doing nothing when he could be creating chance after chance if he were somewhere else?

  12. Stu

Nightman, whats wrong with you at all? Winning should always come frst, performances second. Look at WBA, they try to play attractive football and are bottom of the league. Would you rather that be us?

  13. Nightman

irishgunner…If we were really playing great football we would WIN 3-1 not lose 1-0

but for now we play Bolton style….really really poor

Fucking Hull City is playing more intelligently than us over that past few weeks…

  14. Nightman

I am all about winning and I never said anything about losing…I said if we made these changes we would WIN BIG…like a BIG TEAM SHOULD

Not squeak by like we have been

  15. Stu

Nightman, what chant would you suggest?

Theres a prick called afsar on arsenal addict. After every single post he says the same thing. always wanting to everyone to boo Denilson and says hes the worst player we have, even when he hasnt played. He says nothing else, just that after every post. He has been fucked out of it by myself and the owners on several occasions but still wont stop.

  16. Iqwoo

    Napoli’s aiming for Flamini.

It’s 2.30 in the morning here, and I hope to wake up to ” Arshavin signs for Arsenal “

  17. irishgunner

There is a difference between “great” football and what you call “unattractive” football – to be quite honest the way our season is going i’ll keep taking the 1-0 victories.

For all Hull’s supposed more intelligent play they are sliding down the table

  18. nick

What about trying this line up at everton cant do no worse then EE and AS in the team? ALMUNIA
    SAGNA TOURE DEJURU CLICHY

    WILTSHIRE NASRI DENILSON VELA

    VPERSIE

    ADEBAYOUR

  19. paul

one hundred and thirteen million spent in this transfer window so far,all those managers trying to improve their teams Hmmm

  20. Nightman

I never want anyone to boo anyone…

I support EVERY player on our roster (even Eboue haha)…I just want them to win like i feel they are capable of…

I dunno about the chant…something POSITIVE that is quite clear in saying that Nasri would be more useful in the center of the park.

  21. Nightman

Stu….I was exaggerating about the Hull thing….

I just meant to say that we are not living up to the potential that is THERE IN OUR PLAYERS

    Am I wrong?

  22. Stu

I wasnt comparing the two of you Nightman. Thats just cane into my head when you suggested a chant.

Unless yiu write Wenger a letter I dont think its possible to make a chant s specific of your wishes.

  23. Nightman

Haha i thought you were calling me a prick indirectly

About the chant, I am trying to build consensus here so that WE as a community can come up with one and sing it if we believe in it

    ——–

TO ALL GROVERS: Do YOU think Nasri would be more effective in the middle of the park and that we should come up with a chant that would let Arsene know…because he hasnt seemed to take notice

    YES or NO?
    ——-

    I say Yes….thats 1 yes

  24. irishgunner

Nightman – be honest , do you really think Wenger will hear a chant that says “Play Nasri in the middle” and then think “jolly ho I better do it so” – it ain’t going to happen. Wenger will only put Nasri in the middle for the last 20 mins if needed. I would like to see him start in the middle with Vela out left but Wenger isn’t go to change it if he hears a chant not is he?

  25. Franchise

nasri can excel as a AM, or second striker in a 4-5-1 as for being a CM in a 4-4-2 his game and build wouldnt suit that at all

  26. wolski

I was soooo hacked off after one game, when we got well and truely spanked by manure that I wrote to AW. Six page letter about what I thought of the performance, all well written and appropriate, no swearing or stupid talk…..and he in fact replied! With a nice letter saying he appreciated my comments and feeling and how much he and the players value our support…..but would not comment on players or team selection. basically fuck off and leave me alone….I don’t think anything will change his view of players or positions..he is stubborn and will push through this greater plan as he did at Monaco. Prepare to see no one and eboue, song, denilson and nasri for much much longer!

  27. patthegooner

Well what a load of bollocks it all is.

What happened to the Zenit Deadline on Saturday Evening and ours today.

I did not think we would ever get a more frustrating Transfer then Nasri and yet here it is six months later.

Come On Arsenal, Yesterday and the Performance of Eboue showed how desperate we are for creativity out wide.

  28. Stu

We better fucking sign him after all this waiting. If not then i will start a 1 man riot in my house!!! Either that or i will sob alone where noone can see (but in a manly way) 😥 😀

  29. patthegooner

I am not even contemplating not signing him Stu

Where do we go if he is not available. No one else of real quality is available and it is not like we make offers they cant refuse to clubs.

  30. irishgunner

It was meant to be midnight tonight for the deadline wasn’t it?

So we may hear by 9PM – given that Russia are 3 hours ahead.

  31. kirby

in dubai with zenit fuckin hope a deal happens soon we are the only fans who really really want transfer action and never get it simple.

come on wenger get arshavin and fuck eboue off!!!!!

    i hate chelsea!!

  32. Stu

Was just wondeout that. So many people say they refresh Newsnow but mine refreshed automatically. Is mine the only one or is this a new fad?

  33. irishgunner

Pat – ha ha that what I was thinking but I’m getting google-eyed all ready, I may blind myself if I do that.

Then the clock will strike 9 and …. no news on the deal!

  34. patthegooner

Nah not a new fad, it auto refreshes every two mins, but a lot can happen in that time so you end up clicking every 5 seconds out of desperate frustration

  35. Stringfellow Hawke

Be very surprised if Arshavin is not presented as an Arsenal player at some junctre thise week.

It’s inevitable, nobody else has bid for him, Zenit will have no choice but to sell up now.

  36. leon

i feel if eboue does get a new contract he will be used solely as untility player,if ashivin comes i dont see how we will get first team chances, although he can be fairly good utility player arsenal are top team and i just see that he is good enough he might be good back up to sagna. i ma not suprised about the ashivin situation zenit are going to wait to see if any other club makes better offer and arsenal would do the same thing but at his age i dought clubs are going make better offer. all round i am happy with the team but could do with 2 more players. i think if we had played cardiff 1 month ago we would have lost it. i feel the free flowing football is a luxury its more about getting result and moving onto the next game which is what is happening

  37. Stu

Every 2 minutes? Mine takes 5. Damn it!!

Anyway I wont be on Newsnow that much. If it happens then it happens. It will surely be on SSN before the internet.

  38. patthegooner

I cant understand Eboue getting a new contract. We are obviously not using him as a back up RB anymore, so I struggle to see his worth, especially as he got a pretty good salary in his last contract. Get him off the wage bill

And if AC Milan are now looking to offload Flamini, they should do the decent thing and offer him back to Arsenal on a free 🙂

  39. Swedish Gun

Tell me why Nasri can’t play CM???

I think he would do just fine or in fact I’m absolutely convinced that we would play much better and create much more with Nasri in the middle

It’s just against the top 4 we would have to play 4-5-1

  40. Pat

    Eboue > Nasri, Arshavin, Hleb

He’s our 1st choice winger. Great with both feet. One of the most intelligent footballers to ever grace the Arsenal. We’re doomed if he’s injured.

  41. Nightman

Damn….I think you all are right….

But come up with a chant it you can…I will try too…

I think its worth a shot, i mean one of his assistants could hear it and say “Arsene they are chanting …”

Or maybe i watch too many movies haha

    Its worth a shot.

  42. Pat

According to Russian daily Life.RU, Arsenal fans are ‘against’ the signing of Arshavin. The article discusses that Gooners believe he is ‘over-rated’ and that money can buy ‘two very good players’ for the amount the Gunners will pay for him.

  43. wolski

your right, monday night is soap night but we have one of our own…ffs get your arsh down here……

One thing that may be good is that if teh deal had fallen through, then them damn ruskies would have it all over the news wires now…..perhaps we are now negotiating whose pen to use!

  44. skandibird

Sorry patthegooner, I am now actually starting to believe Arsene wont buy anyone, as he himself says, he only spends 2% on transfers ….. and, don’t just everyone from KaKa to any other ‘super player’ gag to play fro Arsenal FC and are probably as I write this asking their agents to beg Arsene to sign them??? Sorry everyone, BUT I am so feeling downbeat to-day, after watching SKY Sports News all day (in the background) and absolute nada about Arsenal, unless as I am writing this we have signed 2 new players, resigned Flamini and Edu and Pires ??

  46. Stu

Nasri Flamini Edu Pires. Not bad at all. Edu and Pires love the club too so that would sweeten the deal. Im still upset about how both of them left. As for Flamini, i dont know, maybe he didnt want to leave like he said for months.

Let Flamini go on a free for the sake of a few thousand and reward Eboue with a new contract after his agent claims he doesnt want to leave. Thats whats wrong at the club.

  47. Stu

    ah…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..no!!!!

  48. leon

i must say it is great news to hear that risisky is back in training, and that is another reason wenger is looking pay over the odds for ashivin,i still think it would great addition but wont criple the team if dont get him but i think we will. i think if wenger fins another midfieler in adition to ashivin eboue will in the summer, eboue 25 i cant see him getting any better, wilcatt is already very good adition to the team and is only going get better he very fast learner that just needs to improve is crossing and passing. it very clear that wenger is not getting dm player he going to stick wth delinson ,song and diaby. i have not sean the free flowing football from last year but you know what who cears, the team are winning and are looking more determined and much more up for the fight

  49. Stu

lol, i remember Hlebs first game. He scored after about 2minutes. Never before was there a more odd start to someones career. He started by scoring early and scored about 6more in 3years. Magnificent!

  50. skandibird

irishgunner – thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you – for making me laugh so much, you have brighten up my otherwise sh*te day – XXXXXXXX
ps and as for Paulinho – not bad ……

  51. Jay

Hleb Scored 11 goals in total in 3 season with us. Shocking – I call him dribby McNoscore. Bendtner got 11 last alone year i think. That was how bad Hleb’s reluctance to shoot was.

  52. leon

    stu

i am sorry but flamani only had 1 good season and for me if you want get abig contract you have at least 2 season before you get big contract,he is not doing that well at milan, viera was playing at an extremly high standard for a good 3-4 years,i dont think wenger wants let eboue go in jan in the mid season but it yet to be sean if he is offerd a new contract

  53. Stu

leon, i wouldnt say Walcott is a fast learner. He has had a poor beginning to life at Arsenal. He is certainly developing a lot slower than predicted and still has a lot to learn.

  54. Pat

I don’t care how much he scored. He was a great footballer last season and we’re stupid to sell him for pennies, considering the inflation in the market. He was one of the best midfielders in the world last year

  55. Stu

That I am London. I assume you recall it too. Its hard to forget.

leon, if thats the case then why did Ade get a new contract after only 1 good year? His wages were more than doubled. Almost trippled I think. Why didnt Flamini get a few thousand more. He would probably have stayed had he been offered what he wanted.

  56. Jay

Hleb was very gifted and Technically quality – He could hold onto a ball so well. Its just the goal return wasnt great – Agreed we could definately got more money for him. Nasri is still an adequate replacement though.

  57. Stu

IMO its more that Hleb was part of the best midfield than he was one of the best midfielders. Though he was amazing 😉

  58. gambon

Stu, you realise Walcott is 19?? How many quick learning 16 year old footballers have you seen?

Most 19 year olds are a year away from making their league debut. Walcott is waaaaay ahead of his contempories.

  59. Pat

Hleb made Cesc great. Thats a FACT(Benitez accent)!

The # of defenders he drew made life easier for everyone else. He ran his socks off a lot too.

  60. Jay

Adebayor’s one good season, never warranted a massive pay rise. I was in shock when Milan were looking at around the £30m area! He is a good steiker, but this season is not as prolific. Then again, Cesc, Hleb, Rosicky will give better servce than Deilson, Song, Diaby….

i dont agree with that all,i would that he needs improve alot yes but he is only 19 and i think rinaldo had the problem when he first started, i dont think he has slow start its just wenger very protective and had him on the bench alot and plyed eboue, anyway wilcatt has alot of time on his side at 19 will only get better and evon now has the ability to change a game

  62. Stu

Gambon, i do realise that. Dont shoot the messenger. 😉 Even the club have said Walcott hasnt developed as quickly as they thought he would.

  63. Jules

I see Arsene is so prudent in the transfer market , the spuds have signed Cudduccini
or how ever you spell it for nothing . pretty good keeper for fuck all !! better than ours ,
nice one Arsene , whilst you are balancing the books for the board others are showing a little ambition . meanwhlie ……………………..zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

we are becoming a joke , where is our fear factor gone ?? even Cardiff fancy a go at us now ,and a draw is deemed just about ok . cardiff would have shit themselves and would have mentaly been beaten before kick off against the 2004 team .

now with song , eboue , bentner , diaby etc the cardiffs and burnleys of this world are looking forward to having a go .

  64. leon

as soon ade game in jan he scord around 14 goals, in second season he scord 30 and clear showed he had potential to improve, flamani had been quite few years and had not realy done alot and then had 1 good season i think a bit ofa difference there, having said that, with ade there is no middle ground when he is good form he will score tons but he i sbad he realy bad

  65. Stu

Is anyone else watching setanta news? Gerrards goal against Everton in the cup is a contender for best goal I think.

Either that or it already got 5th in the poll!

    What a fucking disgrace!

  66. gambon

Stu i remember AW saying that, i think he was being a bit of a dick there. Theo had a fairly solid seson last year, especially for an 18 year old.

  67. Stu

Ade scored 4 after coming in in January. Then 12 in the following full season. Thats about 50games. Last season was a fluke and didt deserve such a huge pay rise. A pay rise-yes, but not almost trebling his wages.

  68. Jules

    Pat

I am getting to your opinion . I keep looking at the Fulham and Blackburn tickets on sale for my silver membership and would have normally bought them but feel reluctant to do so at the mo. Sad . getting really fucked off . don,t think I will buy untill this window closes and if we fail to buy again , i will not bother for a while either .

The scum getting cudducinni for fuck all has really pissed me off .

we cant even sign some bloke from the french 2nd division FFS !

  69. gambon

Leon, you are way out with your stats on ade.

    05-06(jan onwards) – 13 (4)
    06-07 – 44(12)
    07-08 – 49(30)
    08-09 – 24(12)

Apart from a 2 month period last season hes always been a fairly decent, non world beater. (ie – backup striker)

  70. leon

    stu

you dont score that many goals by fluke he is very good and his age i think will given better but he not in very good form right now but rinaldo is not that good form either

  71. Stu

And when you also consider the sitters he has missed it makes him look even more average in what was arguably the most creative midfield of the year.

  72. Jules

excactly my point Pat . the scum can get a quality keeper who is better than for ours for free and we are fucking around doing nothing .

Pat . apologies my last post was sharing Patthegooners opinion but I guess you feel the same wat too !!

  73. London

    Jay

The media placed the value of Adebayor at 30 mil not Milan. I thought it was smart business to reward him for scoring 30 goals. I hope the club said that if he scores 30 goals this year they will increase his wages to 100k per week and if he does the same next year they increase his wages to 125k per week. The reason being is that any player who can score 30 goals per year if worth that kind of wage.

  74. Stu

He has scored so few that i can even remember them all vividly.

Bolton, Sunderland(screamer), and Porto -or was that given as an og?

  75. Keyser

Jules – How is that showing ambition ? They’re trying to avoid relagtion, the last time Cudicini played regularly was about 6 years ago, he’s 35 and their first choice keeper – who’s made Almunia look like Schmeichel is injured.

They got him on a free, seems like no-one else was interested and Chelsea weren’t bothered in keeping him, he’s happy to go there because like at Chelsea he’ll get loads of money for doing relatively little, especially when Gomes gets fit.

  76. leon

    stu

there is no dought about that very few strikers would, i think he is better than than being backup striker, edwardo is mush better but he has only had one season we will if he can maintain the same form as last saeson but i think he will

  77. Keyser

For one 80k a week was written in the media aswell, do we actually know for certain how much he’s on ? Owen’s on something like 100k a week.

How much do you pay a striker that scores 30 goals in the Premiership ?!

  78. leon

it all depends on players value to the team and i think he going out of contract,i just hope the club in down wilcatt who only had 1 year left

  79. Keyser

Should have said 30 goals in all competitions, good point Stu, how much is a striker worth that scores 30 goals in a season ?!

  80. Stu

And Van Persie who has the same left on his.

Just on arse.com. Bendtner is just 1 goal behind what he got last season. A lot say he had a decent last season and i wouldnt be suprised if the same folk said he is useless this.

  81. ikon

Cuducini is a great signing imho. For free!!!!

I was hoping for Arsene to consider him a day or two back.

Am I the only one who believes that players are reluctant to come to the Arsenal because of the measly wages? Wenger says we have other targets, and Diamme (or whoever) comes out and says he is happy, same with Inler and Micah.

  82. Jay

London – Hard work and producing the goods definately deserves wage increase, but one good season and to tout his services around the top clubs (if media were truthful) is not needed. He thought he hit the big time, maybe believes he is better than he is.

Dont get me wrong, i think Ade is important to us and i wouldnt want him to leave. He has a good record with regrads to disiplinary and raely injured. Please dont get injured now Ade!!!

  83. Stu

Easily 100k a week i’d say. But that also depends on their importance to the team, performances, consistency level etc. But i suppose your right. 30 goals does deserve rewarding, but considering his talent and chances

  84. Stu

Easily 100k a week i’d say. But that also depends on their importance to the team, performances, consistency level etc. But i suppose your right. 30 goals does deserve rewarding, but considering his talent and the odds of him doing as well this season imo he shouldnt have gotten such a helfy rise.

    Sorry about the half post!

  85. A

cudicini was a very good keeper for chelsea, but anytime hes got a game in the carling cup or whenever last few years he’s dropped clanger after clanger. He’s been signed as a reserve im sure, he isn’t even better than gomes nowadays, though he was fantastic before cech arrived

  86. Keyser

Jules – Visibly active ? This transfer window beens pretty dead, the most news a transfer got was one that didn’t actually happen.

Fear factor ? Don’t get what you mean ?!

  87. Stu

The club are trying to look busy in the market etc. Its like when a teacher told you to revise in class. You’ld put your head down to make it look as if you were reading but really werent. They think they are fooling us.

  88. Jules

I mean teams like Cardiff and Burnley would have shit themselves at the prospect of playing the 2004 team where as now they fancy ago at the current side with the likes of eboue and song in it . From what I saw of the cardiff game , a draw was ok !!

    great .

anyway , don,t worry we are getting lots of new signings soon . all our returning injured players . uhmm … havent heard that before !

  89. Keyser

Thats it though, hefty rise ? In comparison to who ? If he’d scored at the same level despite us not having a single midfielder left on the pitch that started last year, especially Fabregas, how much would he be worth now ?! He’d be scoring not only as consistently as last year but with less chances and creativity behind him.

He’a already got about the same amount of assists that he had in the two previous seasons combined.

  90. Keyser

Jules – So we’re comparing this team to a team at probably it’s peak over the course of a season, did that team beat United in the Premiership that year ?!

I remember us drawing to Sheff Utd in years gone by, before the Plymouth game Arsenal TV had us drawing at home to Gillingham and having to call all the top players we’d rested off the bench to win.

How many games can you look back on like that ? Did we never lose or something ?!

  91. OJAIMO

About 25mins before midnight in Russia and yet no news of AA deal. Is the dead line really today for noth clubs or have they relaxed it till Feb 2nd?

  92. Jay

I persoannly think its gonna go to the wire, or it will all fall through tonight and we wont be seeing him in Arsenal shirt. They are the two outcomes I can see – Please Arsenal, just get it done.
