Having our injured players back will be like 4 new signings, what???

by & filed under Uncategorized.

I seem to remember you saying that last year, oh and the year before Arsene, injuries are part and parcel of football, we seem to have more than most, but that’s because we buy injury prone players, Eduardo and Cesc being the exception.

We can’t keep relying on players coming back, it didn’t work last season and it won’t work this, we need new players, we need 2 class players in each position because injuries and a long season dictate that.

Cesc said buying players does not guarantee success and ManU only win titles because ‘Their philosophy of attacking football was clear and they were rewarded for that.’

Well that and the fact they have spent more money on players than we turn over, Ronaldo, Rooney, Ferdinand, Carrick, Anderson, Nani, Hargreaves, Tevez and Berbatov to name but a few, going back Van Nistleroy, Saha and Veron to name a few more. And all those I just named cost more than Wiltord, our record signing of 9 years ago. (sorry Ronaldo was £1mil cheaper)

It’s a fact of life that clubs spend money, other clubs that spend more than we do include… well everyone except WBA, Stoke and Hull and if you work out that Nasri, Coquelin and Ramsey equated to Hleb, Gilberto and Hoyte, then we spent less than anyone and frankly that’s not acceptable.

Billionaire owners, like them or not are here to stay, Villa, Liverpool, ManU, Tottenham, City, West Ham and Portsmouth are all owned by billionaires, and yes I know a few of them are in trouble, but we aren’t and we don’t have to spend anymore than we got from sell ons to get the players we need, so I’m at a loss to work out why Arsenal haven’t spent our money.

Wenger in his wisdom turned down Palacios and sold Diarra, Diarra was sold on for £15mil more than we sold him for and Palacios just turned down a £16mil move to the spuds, so we aren’t that clever in the market anymore either are we?

Arshavin and a centre back would do, chuck in a defensive midfielder of note and we still have a shot a 3 trophies, Arshavin is the 6th best player in the world, why haggle when we know that Milan or someone else will pick him up for a few mil more, didn’t we learn by not signing Alonso?

Why did we bring in Gazidas? To sell more boxes or to negotiate some decent players?

I watched the kids play yesterday and Steve Bould let slip that Frimpong was told not to shoot from distance, but they let him off as he nearly scored three times, what an admission, don’t shoot, and that’s company policy! No wonder we go sideways like Pedro’s crab.

I have tried several times to get Danny Fizman on and this week I tried to get Tom Watt, but they don’t want to know, they won’t even explain why they don’t want to know either, I guess that shows they don’t give a rats arse what we the fans think at all, just give us your money, sit down and shut up, oh and watch Arsenal TV and the propaganda machine in full flow.

I will watch the Hull game tomorrow and pray the fringe players start to show us what they can do, we know Song will play and we know Eboue will play so I will get behind them, Alexandre and Emmanuel if you are reading this, go prove me wrong, please show us why Wenger has this faith in you, if you have a blinder your name will light this blog up on Sunday, I promise, I will be the first to admit I was wrong, or at least Pedro will as he does the match reports.

Meanwhile Arsene, please sign Arshavin and two others before we see another season go down the shitter, please.

We are all Arsenal fans, that’s why we write a blog and that’s why our Grovers spend hours on it commenting, we deserve at least to see our money get spent, it wasn’t long ago we had players like Bergkamp, Pires, Henry, Overmars and Campbell in the ranks, get a few names in and we’ll clean up.

One last thing, on Arsenal TV often celebrities name their all time Arsenal team, I would say 90% of them have Seaman, Dixon, Winterburn, Adams, Keown, Bould, Bergkamp and Wright in them, and you know what, you didn’t sign any of them.

The lesson there is all the great Arsenal teams had a fantastic defence with two big centre backs, a great keeper and at least two world class superstars up front.

I will leave you with that thought boss.

Have a great day today Grovers, this could be the day we get back a great centre back and a superstar!

P.S. Loads of Everton tickets in Le Exchange… e-mail me!!!

irish, the board can set the targets,a casino manager has targets,if his dealers get beat often he faces the sack

  2. Franchise

Irish over the course of time Arsene became unsackable. He is too influential and I bet the board are trying to reduce this.

  3. Geoff

Irish, if someone punched me, then I would tear their head off, much the same way that if someone fired a missile at me…

Then don’t complain what I do next, I hope that answers your question.

I see the accounts, I know what we have, Fizman says if Wenger wanted £30 mil for a player he can have it, if we have no money then Wenger should call Fizman a liar, he can’t though can he, because we have it.

  4. patthegooner

i am still chuckling that the Spuds are going to spend 14m on Palacios, especially after spending 16m on Bent.

Where the Fuck do they get their money from though.

I would rate Palacios at about 5 or 6 myself.

  5. Pedro

    Why Irish?

If the buck stopped with the board, are you saying they should sack an under performing manager? Or back him and hope he turns it around?

  6. Keyser

Pedro – Hah,, Ok then it’s an investment and he’s trying to break into the top 4 to advance Villa as a club, what’s your point ?!

  7. Pat

    For last season:
    Offsides per game
    Emmanuel Adebayor 1.83
    Marcus Bent 1.74
    Nicolas Anelka 1.56
    Dimitar Berbatov 1.25
    Emile Heskey 1.25

And Ade made 24% of his shots. Torres made 25%

  8. IrishGunner

Franchise – but is that not the boards fault? who let him take all the power … the board!

Bergkamp – you must think us Irish are a curse LOL

  9. Franchise

if ferguson ever went 5 years w/o the league 4 w/o trophies he would be sacked cos ManUtd have a reputation to keep. Especially if he refuses to strengthen his squad for subsequent seasons when everyone else is strengthening

  10. bergkamp

they should set deadlines pedro,if wenger isnt using all the resources available to make his team as strong as can be then he is neglecting his duty,if he was spending the money and failing well they couldnt call it neglect, just crap, right now its negelct unless they arent performing as well as they could in negotiation

  11. Pat

Odub, of course he’s going to score less since our team is shit this season.

You expect him to score 30 with no creative players on the pitch? Nasri hasn’t been consistent enough

  12. Pedro

My point is that smaller clubs can’t break into the top 4 without a little help.

The reason he wants to be in the top 4 is so he will then see a return on his investment.

Arsenal have been earning what Lerner is after for 10 years… so for us to not have any money would mean we are badly run, wouldn’t it?

If we are in the premier competition… and we are skint… where is all the money going (Don’t say stadium)?

So in short… we should be matching what Villa are spending at the very least… £16million a season isn’t beyond a champions league club that earn prem revenue and have the highest gate reciepts in the world.

  13. IrishGunner

Geoff – sorry had no idea what you meant LOL

Pedro – this is a different case. We’re not talking about Ince not getting things right at Blackburn. We are talking about a guy who has been at a club for over 12 years and who should be fighting for silverware. If he refuses to strengthen a team that quite clearly needs it and continues to off load players over-30 then they can give him an ultimation – win a trophy (or at least really challenge) or you’re off.

  14. bergkamp

everytime we won the league our team only need maybe 1 or 2 players just to keep us ticking over but wenger never strengthened a winning team,i always thought that was strange

  15. Odub

no such thing as an unsackable employee! As long as he’s aswerable to someone he has to perform! FACT! Job for life my back foot.

  16. bergkamp

linesmen never put the flag up on anelka though or drogba lol pat,ade waould have scored more goals and been onside regular if linesmen were robotic

  17. Pedro

Irish, because I don’t think there is anyone better out there. Lets give him till the end of the year before we start talking about sacking him.

He is still in for 3 trophies… it’s not a disaster yet.

  18. Geoff

!0 years of champions league money would be around £250mil, given that in 10 years we’ve spent fuck all and add the EPL money, FA Cup money and the fact that for 7 of those years we were in a stadium that was paid for, where did all the money go?

I reckon that lot would add up to £650 million. Intereseting this prudence eh Arsene!

  19. IrishGunner

    Bergkamp – LOL

A situation should never be created where a manager is unsackable, ever!! I’m not saying Arsenal should be crazy like Real Madrid changing managers every other year but Wenger should be under continual pressure to win trophies – hell he would probably thrive under it.

  20. bergkamp

pedro,im not saying sack wenger,im down with wenger, just nudge him in the right direction,he acts like the cheque book is red hot and will burn his fingers if he touches it

  21. Franchise

If Arsene was pressured by the board then he would not take as big the risks he is takes. if he thinks he deserves his fat salary and bonuses then why does he think clubs dont need to be rewarded with good offers for players???? Are Arsenal the only club that deserve to make good profit on player sales????

  22. Pat

Brighty, I back-up my thoughts with stats.

I remember many Arsenal fans were calling for Nik to start because he’s sooooo much better than Ade.

There is a reason Milan will pay us 30 million in the summer.

  23. Pedro

Geoff, the thing with the prudence thing is Arsene has been doing it for year… fair enough what with the stadium thing… but for the last 2 years, the stadium debt hasn’t been an issue… ruining his project has.

Now we are in a recession, he is using that as an excuse to be even more careful… well for me a recession just allows him more time to crack on with his project. Perfect… we’re not skint, we’re just being careful… no one will argue with that!

  24. Odub

    Pat,

So it’s not Ade’s fault he’s shot this season?!Did you see the game on saturday?

Explain to me how he managed 85 minutes doing absolutely sod all and NB comes on and gets 2 chances and scores 1?
We created enough chances for him to score last week, even before Nasri got switched to the middle!
Last season he scored goals from outside the box that he created himself, that didnt have anything to do with what midfield was behind him!

  25. Keyser

Pedro – Thats smaller clubs, it all goes in cycles for one, if he pushes likes he’s doing and fluffs it, it’d probably take another 50 million to try again, like Tottenham.

Thing is he isn’t hampered by any payments, he hasn’t built up over years using the clubs revenue and he’s just put his own money into it, where has all that money gone we’ve been building up ? Is there anything in recent years we’ve spent it on ?!

I’ve never said we’re skint, but can we compete year for year against teams that just front up 40-50 million from rich owners pockets no, because Villa are one club, othrs above us have spent more and have richer squads.

You keep coming up with this 16 million a season, thats against Villa, United have spent 60 for the last two and still have a more expensive squad, do you fork out money because Villa are challenging you or do you build up gradually to the point where you can deal with them all ?!

Go on then 16 million a season, we shuld have spent 16 million this season, except Villa already have money from revenue streams, just this season they’ve gone out and spent 40 million on players, so the difference isn’t just 16 million it’s a whole lot more.

  26. Geoff

Wenger’s job is to win trophies, not run Arsenal Football club, he should know his place, he’s well ahead of himself.

  27. kenny smith

i get so frustrated some times with wenger, with his bullshit excuses and not buying players but at the same time i wouldnt want to see him go. Its weird, its like i know he has what it takes to win us trophies as he has shown before but he is just not doing it. And like Pedro said its probably cause i know that there isnt anyone better out there id like to manage the club…. i hate most of the big club managers that wud more than likely replace wenger anyway

  28. IrishGunner

Pedro – I though you knew I was one of Wenger’s strongest supporters? Not in an AKB way but just ask Kenny Smith.

I’m not in anyway calling for him to be sacked LOL I’m just saying its up to the board to keep the man under pressure so he’ll strive to keep winning.

  29. Metal Gear

Pat interesting stats only I don’t really pay 2 much attention 2 them becuz if I did I would have believed Denilson’s passing success rate is phenomenal without realizing most of his passing were sideways or backwards and also he was a very good tackler and again had I just followed stats and not use my own eyes I would have not known he cant cover defenders, position himself, close down and read the game well but hey stats are stats.

  30. Steve

Wenger will always be a legend. As will Norris, Chapman and Bertie Mee.

The man deserves upmost respect for what he has done for this club regardless of what’s happening now.

Is Sir Alf any less a legend that he didn’t retain the world cup?

  31. kenny smith

Pedro it was probably wenger who caused the reccession knowing that it wud give him more time for his project! lol lol

  32. bergkamp

start winning stuff then he can get back to deciding what colour toilet seats in the oposition locker room, thats wht i say,mr wenger stop fucking about is my message

  33. Pat

And believe it or not, Nasri is the 3rd best finisher in the PL this season, with 33.33% of his 12 shots going in.

    Owen: 40% of 15
    Agbonlahor: 36.84% of 19
    Anelka: 27.66% of 47

  34. bergkamp

arsenal have got so much money ,thats why man city bid so high for kaka just incase arsene has been saving up to sign him too

  35. IrishGunner

Kenny – I’d whip him into shape, give me a list of players you guys want, five minutes in a room with Wenger and we’d be sorted 😉

  36. Pat

Metal, that stat is actually useful when comparing the finishing between Torres and Ade. Thats why I gave it, since Ade is SUCH a bad finisher.

I couldn’t care less about Denilson’s stats. he’s no good and passing % stats mean absolutely nothing.

The top PL passers last season were Clichy, Flamini, then Fabregas. In that order

  37. Pedro

Keyser (Geoff, correct me if I am wrong). If Foster spend £50million on a marketing campaign and Stella don’t match it, there is every chance Fosters could take the market share. So of course you match what your rivals are spending to a certain degree… becuase if it looks like they are going to over take you… you’ll lose out long term.

I’m not saying match man u or Villa… I am saying at least try and compete with the Readings and WBA’s of the world… because they are prudent and they don’t earn half the dough we do… yet they out spend us.

If we go the route of producing all our own talent, all we become is a money making machine… we’ll never buy the best players, and we’ll probably never see the fruits of our operation because when they are good enough, they’ll be off!

We’d wait ten years for this to all kick off, only for an oligarch to takeover and cream off the millions.

    I’d rather not see that.

  38. Pedro

    Pat, he was joking.

Opta stats aren’t the official stats of the league (Actim are)… they are the official stats of sky… so you don’t know if they’ve been tainted.

  39. patthegooner

    Pat

If Kaka goes to Man City, I could see Milan buying Ade next week!!!!

Thing with Wenger is, since the Invincibles he has always been two to three players short of really mounting a challenge, and given that we are probably in credit transfers wise, it is frustrating that we are where we are. If we could just have a blow out we would be awesome again.

If we had kept Hleb and Flamini and added Nasri, we would be top of the tree now, or at least close to it, and we would still be waiting for Eduardo and Rosicky to return.

I think Wenger does understand this now. He does seem to realise things if not a little slowly and his confusing comments about keeping fans today shows it. I am sure he has had the conversations with the board about the growing gaps in the stadium. I know some cant afford to go, but given our fan base, we should be able to fill the stadium still. It is just that the football this year has not been that enjoyable.

But he cant be complacent, and I hope he knows that. There will be a riot if no one comes in this month, and those gaps will get bigger. we can argue all day about who is better in the DM slot between Song, Denilson and Diaby and which of those should play Left or Right Midfield if they dont play center, but the fact of the matter is, neither of those players are good enough to play for a top four team. Neither of them would get a game at any other top 4 side in England, Spain, Italy, Germany or France and it sucks that we are brainwashed into almost accepting it at our club.

I am pissed that it is now over half way through the window and no one has come in. Wenger mentions how many games Arshavin will be eliglble to play and how many games it would take him to Settle. Great he recognises it, so why didnt he fucking sign them on Jan 1st or as close to it as possible.

  40. Metal Gear

Pat are you sure it wasn’t Fabregas then Flamini then Clichy anyway Stats say Denilson is a very consistent passer your now saying stats mean nothing then don’t show stats if it means nothing. If a manager signed Ade just by looking at stats he would have a hard time accepting without extreme!!!!! service he won’t deliver.

  41. Keyser

Pedro – You could go away as a company realise you’re losing out can’t match them like for like in the marketing stakes and decide to produce a beer that will stand up to the taste test and find other ways to appeal to the palette, make it taste nicer, or stronger.

So what if they outspend us, we’re not looking to outspend them, we’re looking to compete with the teams above us that do outspend us, if we can’t do it with the money we make, do it in other ways.

You spend money but merge it was producing your own talent, get enough players young and build them up together, it’s how we’ve been competing for years and since Wenger came around, the difference is now that the teams around us have got someone in to fund their marketing/ team, unless we do the same we have to be a lot more creative then they are.

It’s not going to be 10 years, Ramsey comes in and becomes a first team player e’ve already saved money, same with Cesc, Toure, Clichy, Adebayor, Van Persie and others.

We need to spend wisely thats all I’ve said from the start, a few million here or there ? Thats something we have to be careful with.

  42. Steve

Pat, 98% of people that qoute stats haven’t got anything better to do than qoute stats.

Watch the players and decide if they are talented or not.

  43. Jamaican Gunner

One question to the senior members of the site:

Where is money that we get from the sale of Bently or Diarra?

Cant we use that money to up the bid for Arshavin?

Why cant we sell Gallas, or even swap him for the Flamster seen as Becks is not @ milan?

Why is that According the Financial Report that Franchise post on, that we are rank 5 as wealthiest club in the world, yet we cant seem to pay 15 – 20 mil for Arshavin?

Song should go back to Africa and train with the wilderbeast to improve is game.

I think we wont see any changes until Arsenal has received a rude awakening.

Here is what I would do

Sell galllas or swap him for flamini, if we sell gallas we could use the money to buy Arshavin and the another world class signing.

Get a new goal keeper or promote young fabbi!!!!!

  44. bergkamp

if milan want ade it will cost 50mill after the money they get for kaka,or 30 mill plus pato flamini and gourccoff or whater his name is in the summer, plus if they give us the other 50 mill they can have nikki b and robin as well

  45. bergkamp

the thing is how much will ramsey improve,he only has to grow a little bit to get infront of song, the kid needs a challenge to make him great

  46. Pat

I usually don’t use stats, but for some reason you don’t think Ade is good.

Oh well, I hope he goes and we’re still going to be shit with an even worse striker. Then you’ll learn to accept a great player.

Roque better than Ade is the funniest thing I’ve heard all day.

  47. Keyser

Have you seen Gunnersaurus when the teams step off the coaches, he has the respect of not only our team but the opposition aswell, they all defer to him he’ll be immense.

  48. bergkamp

t-shirts irish, gunnersaurus hasonly been seen since song has been injured ,while song plays strangely he is never about lol

  49. patthegooner

I actually think Gunnersauras is quicker than song, and frightens the opposition more

Also Song has the turning cirlce of an Aircraft Carrier

  50. Jamaican_Gunner

he is pat,but ramsey is at the age where he could still get everything far to easily and do a jenas,he needs tow ork hard to improve, and the only way is to make him fight for a place harder than against a song who he is already better than

  52. patthegooner

Are you saying Song is Gunnersauras Bergkamp, like Clark Kent is Superman

    Wow, never thought of that.

It would explain his Exceptional Talent Visa, I hear the Cameroonian Mascots are the best in the World.

  53. bergkamp

you dont need to pay 20 mill to get arshavin,he is worth 12 mill and zenit should be greatful considering they could lose him for peanuts

  54. IrishGunner

    Agh a t-shirt I see

LOL Could be play Gunnersaurus instead of Song? Is there a rule against it? No-one could tackle him cos the kids would cry – it’d be like tackling Santa Claus??

  55. Odub

    I’ve heard it all now!!

    ‘Ade is a great player!’

Next on Le Grove news….. Song, the saviour of Arsenal!

I’m cracking up here Pat, and there I was taking you seriously buddy!! Where’s Ethan when you need him, he’ll tell you how ”great” Ade is!! Mein Gott!! 😆

  56. bergkamp

song is definantly gunnersaurus,i think if song gets into the team even more regular he might hire someone to fill the suit for him so arsenal dont find a permanant dinosaur replacement

  57. bergkamp

i hate gunnersaurus,id like to shoot that thing and im animal friendly, thats how much of a prick song is,woooops gunnersaurus

  58. bergkamp

i think we should send jack wilshere on loan to madrid, they shouldnt need penant, but we can let jacky boy play for the worlds greatest club till they get ronaldo, just as a good will jesture

  59. bergkamp

infact maybe now song has been promoted maybe the silence surrounding big phil senderos’s return will be because they are planning to lock him inside the dinosaur to earn his stripes

  60. bergkamp

franchise thats what he will come up with, but thats what he says to outsiders, trust me,arsene turns into a streets of rage character in the changing room when we blow it

  61. Steve

Hiya Atom. Just in case you haven’t been up to date we have signed Arshavin, Kaka, Essien and Vidic. Irish is moving to the Essex suburbs to be my bit on the side and Adebayor is a top player.

Alright, forget the Adebayor thing, that’s just ridiculous.

  62. patthegooner

Maybe thats why Song is so slow

He has half the costume on underneath his kit. Allows him to quickly change and entertain the kids at half time.

I wish he would start entertaining the adults in the crowd. Maybe we should try swapping him for Upson, he could double up as Herbie the Hammer.

  63. gazzap

wenger is hiding behind the recession as for the reason that fans are not turning up to games anymore/will not renewing season tickets. he is trying to make it look as nothing is his fault. If arsenal were competing for silverware and playing better football, only those who literally can not afford a ticket would drop out.
Fact is, many people are fed up paying top dollar to watch crap players and wenger is blaming it on the credit crunch. very convenient for him.

  64. bergkamp

thats why song cut his hair,he had the suit on so long his dreads grew and caused his head to get stuck inside the gunnersaurus, you know the way into the suit is through the ass lol

  65. Steve

When you are asked to check another bank to see if you can lend them it’s called checking limits. The better the bank in theory the better limits you should have. It’s a money market thing.

  66. A

yeah gambon, i like de jong, will be good for city. If they sign a keeper along with kaka and de jong then that’s their team sorted for the time being

  67. Franchise

there was this lanky guy that played for holland at the euros a DM i cant remember his name it sounded like hangeland he was a decent player. very good actually and we could do with a player like him

  68. Steve

I am Atom unfortunately. My family heralded from Stoke Newington, hence the reason they have all been Gooners all their lives, but have continued moving away since the early 80’s.

  69. bergkamp

odub,i drink too, usually when i lose, even more if i win,6 for a fiver redstripe,if arsenal get stuffed by hull il stay in my house for a week with the curtains closed lol

  70. Arsenal Tom

steve… im in essex mate… live near woodford, my old man used to work in stoke newington years ago, used to see michael watson round there all the time.

odub, hows tricks? been to the pub?

  71. IrishGunner

LOL bergkamp ain’t nothing I’m not telling you 🙂

Forget Gunnersaurus – the limerick 37 mascot is way better “Leo the Lion” he actually decked a guy one night LOL

  72. bergkamp

i saw michael watson running the ondon marathon about 2 days after it finished still carryin on,great guy,i won money on him when i was a kid,he knocked nigel benn out with a jab in finsbury park under the tent

  73. Arsenal Tom

engelaar is at hamburg as i well i think, he was class during the euro’s they brought him before it started though… look and learn arsenal

  74. Odub

ATom I have been indeed mate. And the HR manager just cracked open a bottle of Jacob’s Creek some recruitment agency just dropped off for him, so I’m sat at my desk with a glass of shiraz! sweet!

  75. bergkamp

lol leo the lion,i watched the mascot race on soccer AM and gunnersaurus wasnt even involved all because song was at the cup of nations

  76. bergkamp

maybe we should just make a cheeky bid for barry, and really unsettle a few aston villa players, the way manure done us sayin they wanted adebayor just before we played them a few years back

  77. Arsenal Tom

odub… you really do live the life my friend… my lunch time pints of peroni should keep me going till 5 ish though!

i know the gunnersauraus is a bit of a dick but i think likening him to song is a bit much
