Having our injured players back will be like 4 new signings, what???

by & filed under Uncategorized.

I seem to remember you saying that last year, oh and the year before Arsene, injuries are part and parcel of football, we seem to have more than most, but that’s because we buy injury prone players, Eduardo and Cesc being the exception.

We can’t keep relying on players coming back, it didn’t work last season and it won’t work this, we need new players, we need 2 class players in each position because injuries and a long season dictate that.

Cesc said buying players does not guarantee success and ManU only win titles because ‘Their philosophy of attacking football was clear and they were rewarded for that.’

Well that and the fact they have spent more money on players than we turn over, Ronaldo, Rooney, Ferdinand, Carrick, Anderson, Nani, Hargreaves, Tevez and Berbatov to name but a few, going back Van Nistleroy, Saha and Veron to name a few more. And all those I just named cost more than Wiltord, our record signing of 9 years ago. (sorry Ronaldo was £1mil cheaper)

It’s a fact of life that clubs spend money, other clubs that spend more than we do include… well everyone except WBA, Stoke and Hull and if you work out that Nasri, Coquelin and Ramsey equated to Hleb, Gilberto and Hoyte, then we spent less than anyone and frankly that’s not acceptable.

Billionaire owners, like them or not are here to stay, Villa, Liverpool, ManU, Tottenham, City, West Ham and Portsmouth are all owned by billionaires, and yes I know a few of them are in trouble, but we aren’t and we don’t have to spend anymore than we got from sell ons to get the players we need, so I’m at a loss to work out why Arsenal haven’t spent our money.

Wenger in his wisdom turned down Palacios and sold Diarra, Diarra was sold on for £15mil more than we sold him for and Palacios just turned down a £16mil move to the spuds, so we aren’t that clever in the market anymore either are we?

Arshavin and a centre back would do, chuck in a defensive midfielder of note and we still have a shot a 3 trophies, Arshavin is the 6th best player in the world, why haggle when we know that Milan or someone else will pick him up for a few mil more, didn’t we learn by not signing Alonso?

Why did we bring in Gazidas? To sell more boxes or to negotiate some decent players?

I watched the kids play yesterday and Steve Bould let slip that Frimpong was told not to shoot from distance, but they let him off as he nearly scored three times, what an admission, don’t shoot, and that’s company policy! No wonder we go sideways like Pedro’s crab.

I have tried several times to get Danny Fizman on and this week I tried to get Tom Watt, but they don’t want to know, they won’t even explain why they don’t want to know either, I guess that shows they don’t give a rats arse what we the fans think at all, just give us your money, sit down and shut up, oh and watch Arsenal TV and the propaganda machine in full flow.

I will watch the Hull game tomorrow and pray the fringe players start to show us what they can do, we know Song will play and we know Eboue will play so I will get behind them, Alexandre and Emmanuel if you are reading this, go prove me wrong, please show us why Wenger has this faith in you, if you have a blinder your name will light this blog up on Sunday, I promise, I will be the first to admit I was wrong, or at least Pedro will as he does the match reports.

Meanwhile Arsene, please sign Arshavin and two others before we see another season go down the shitter, please.

We are all Arsenal fans, that’s why we write a blog and that’s why our Grovers spend hours on it commenting, we deserve at least to see our money get spent, it wasn’t long ago we had players like Bergkamp, Pires, Henry, Overmars and Campbell in the ranks, get a few names in and we’ll clean up.

One last thing, on Arsenal TV often celebrities name their all time Arsenal team, I would say 90% of them have Seaman, Dixon, Winterburn, Adams, Keown, Bould, Bergkamp and Wright in them, and you know what, you didn’t sign any of them.

The lesson there is all the great Arsenal teams had a fantastic defence with two big centre backs, a great keeper and at least two world class superstars up front.

I will leave you with that thought boss.

Have a great day today Grovers, this could be the day we get back a great centre back and a superstar!

P.S. Loads of Everton tickets in Le Exchange… e-mail me!!!

    Arshavin could be the superstar!

DIDn’t get why Frimpong has been told not to shoot from distance.

If its true, I now get why Kolo runs back like a frightened kid every time he takes a shot.

  2. PDT

Geoff, after reading your post, I want Dein back more than ever. He saw which way the EPL was going and tried to do the right thing for us, in his own misguided way.

  3. PDT

Wenger is, indeed, living off his past. He doesn’t have the same record in the transfer market that he had in his first years. Only Sagna can count as a truly excellent signing…..even though Ade is scoring a lot, I don’t rate him amongst the greats yet.

  4. Rusko

It’s ok everyone, we can all stop fretting… I have a feeling we’re gunna piss all over Hull tomorrow.

    I’ll go with a 3-0 RVP hat trick =)

  5. maqitlarge

for a momoent I read Pedro’s crabs, not crab… that would be as uncomfortable as being a gooner in the transfer window

  6. arsenalised

I watch the bundesliga alot and i remember rosicky used to shoot from far all the time and he scored some, but when we signed him he never shoots except that cracker at hamburg in the UCL

  7. tonyadamsisgod

Great post Geoff, you read my mind.

I have been sitting here waiting to ask you guys if anyone else has truly had enough of the shit Wenger spins about injured players returning as new signings!! It doesn’t fool anyone any more Wenger. We wont see Rosicky in the business part of the season, and by the time Theo and Cesc return our season will have already been decided!! Act now you fucking stubborn, tight fisted bastard!! Its not YOUR money….its the clubs money. If Fizman says you can spend it then fucking well spend it. You can even take credit that the money was earnt buy your inlcusion of various players’ sell on clauses…..whatever, just spend it!!

We’ve all had enough of your acceptance of complete mediocrity!!

  8. Pedro

Geoff, a ripper of a post this morning!

Hearing Wenger talking about new signings being injured players is rubbish… even when those players are fit, we are still short. Cesc saying ManU only win based on their attacking philosophy is missing the point… and deep down, he knows that.

Lets hope it’s just smoke and mirrors.

I am pleased we are in a solvent position… but like I said last night, we’ve spent less than reading over the last 5 years and we have had the most profitable gate reciepts in that time… so Wenger isn’t being a visionary, he is just being tight.

No one is asking for Kaka, just some decent players who are old enough and wise enough to help this team.

  9. PDT

arsenalised, the last two goals he scored before he joined us were crackers from distance fired in Euro2004.
Then he joined us, got myopia and cant see the goal from distance….

  10. Pedro

Rusko, if it is Denilson and Song in the middle, I would be less inclined to be too positive.

However, if it is Denilson and Nasri… give me a 0-3 all day!

  11. charybdis1966

Morning all; Geoff I hate it when Wenger talks about a crock returning and says “ them coming back will be lie a new signing” – GGRR! We don’t want things that are LIKE a new signing, we want ACTUAL new signings as you’ve persistently replaced quality with chunder. It’s not worked for the last 4 years and it won’t work anytime soon.
Let’s hope we get a bit of “screaming for vengeance” from the team tomorrow as Hull really is one of the cess pits of the north. The guy who scored the winner against us(Cousin) scored against the bar codes mid week so we’d better watch out.

  12. Nil

Did Wenger actually say that “new signings” line this time or was it Arsenal.com spin?

Arsenal.com are constantly spinning words, wether it’s the players or Wenger.

  13. Jimbo

Just saw you last post to me in the last thread – what are you talking about Diakite?

I’ve never said anything about him

  14. Nil

    Re: shotting from range

Bould let the same thing slip a few months ago after Coquelin had scored a goal. He said somethign about how he had instructed Coquelin not to shoot in those situations, but Coquelin had done so anyway and scored.

  15. PDT

If I could look on the downside for a moment….

    Let’s say he doesn’t sign anyone….

We finish the season with nothing, yet again…will AW be fired in the summer?

He won’t. He has tenure – whatever he does, he will still be the boss in August 2009.

So there is no motivation for him to do anything – he has complete job security!

He will stick to his guns, not pay a single penny more than whatever he has decided Arshavin’s true worth is.

Our only hope is that Zenit blinks.

  16. Jules

    Morning all

GEOFF . I think that is the best post I had read on hear , Well done .

Absolutley spot on , re manure spending etc etc .

Now we are getting the returning players will be like new signings line

all a bit like the summer patern , don,t you think !??

  17. didee

i think tomorow o gonna be

    Sagna, Toure(c), JD, Clichy

    Eboue, Diaby, Demilson, Nasri

    Ade, Rvp

same line up as bolton cos notin has changed at the club, except our new siginin SONG who would probably replace injured Jackie Boy on the bench

  18. arsenalised

PDT:when he joined he was told not to shoot by wenger because that is not the arsenal way.stupid way of thinking arsene.

  19. Jules

Arshavin is the super player you are on about Arsene .

no one else is in for him , he wants to come , fizmann says you have the cash .

how can you not sign him ! what is the problem , how can you fail again

the player is desperate to come . WHAT IS THE FUCKING PROBLEM ARSENE

  20. Matt

I’m not being an AKB, but although AW didnt sign the players you listed, he did sign –

    Vieira, Overmars, Campbell, Pires, Henry…

Some of the best players to have ever played for the club…. 😉

  21. Jimbo

PDT – Zenit aren’t going to blink at the offer Wenger the fool has made them.

Anyway, I’m 100% certain that we aren’t going to end up securing Arshavin, and the way my mate was talking last night, I’m still confident he’ll end up with the Yids too.

Wenger should never have been allowed to get involved in our transfers – he’s totally lost the plot anyway, and needs to be removed at utmost haste.

  22. finestcuts

Good morning Grovers, Wenger has publicly stated that he is looking to sign Arshavin so that’s good news for us, and Gazprom know he will stick to his principles of playing the youth and not paying an extra 5 million just to get the deal sealed as they would like, Wenger has offered 12 and to be fair it is a decent offer although that means the club are prepared to lose 12 million of value nd I’d rather we bought Ashley Young for 30 and sold him on for 18 although I can’t say how the club would feel about having so much capital locked into one player.

The Kaka deal will affect us in a major way. Kaka is being bought for brand value and as a magnet for other players and now it will be even more difficult to compete for top players.

I can empathise with contract negotiations happening at the moment, both sides gambling and playing cut throat hardball, I’ve been involved in such dealings over the past few days, successfully, although I actually hate it, too much cortisol in the body is highly unpleasant, so I’m going to be very busy over the next few months.

I’ve met some interesting people over the past few days, people that I’d never expect a regular dude like me to be talking with and sitting next to….I have a few snippets of news not relating to Arsenal you may be interested in. Word is Stevie G will be acquitted and could even sue the Police, and Abramovich is in heavy financial turmoil, he lost about 22 billion over the past few months, he certainly won’t be investing big in Chelsea. I cannot confirm this information, it is just word….anyway, lets thrash Hull, get back on track, I’m very hopeful the Arshavin deal will go through and that we’ll put up a very strong fight over the second half of the season.

  23. PDT

Maybe Arsene can’t count beyond 10…..

All the fees above the number 10 were negotiated by Dein. Now Wenger gets stumped the moment clubs ask for more than 10.

  24. Jules

    Matt .

no , but if it is the one I really want and have promised the wife for xmas ,

If 1t is 20k , I dont make a cunt of myself by offering 10 , being refused ,then poncing around for a week and let someone else come and buy it thus letting down my Wife !!

  25. PDT

Matt, if the only other option is to walk from London to Istanbul and you have to leave right away, then yes, you pay for the car.

  26. Jules

    Matt /Arsene

there is a saying ,,, buy cheap , buy twice , ie matsui tv 200 ,buy it ,three months later realise its shit so go back and buy the sony .

ie buy alex song 1 mill …………… etc etc etc

  27. PDT

Jimbo, if the rumours about Arshavin being willing to pay part of his transfer fee are true, then maybe he will force Zenit to sell him.

The problem with removing Wenger is that we don’t have anyone else who can take over and do a good job.

I think deep down, all of us are in love with the brand of football the club has played over the last few decade and don’t want that to go away. I am, at least.

  28. Matt

PDT – bit of a surreal comment PDT! 🙂

All i am saying is – we know we are negotiating for the player, and there is a good chance we will get him.

We cant sign him in time to play against Hull anyway, so what is the rush?

  29. Jimbo

If you want a manager who’s ever going to make a proper fist of building a squad for the short term, then Wenger needs to go now.

He isn’t going to get the deals done this January, because he has never been able to cope with the post-Chelsea era – he’s out of touch with the modern game, and he’s out of touch with the reality of this team, and, most certainly 100%, he’s totally out of touch with the reality of the transfer market.

Wenger will not do the business this January, and will end up making a £30m fuck up if we don’t (the money we’ll lose by finishing 5th). If the board have half a wit between them, they’ll fire the moron in the summer.

  30. RockStone

Morning all…..good write up Geoff. Don’t always agree with you but what you’ve written is pretty damn valid (in my huble opinion of course).

Away to Hull….that means Song and Denilson in the middle….Nasri left….Eboue right…..Ade and RVP up top….Bentner and Diaby as impact subs….quite likely?

I really do feel we’ll get a couple of decent players…Le Boss is doing his usual “I’ll cover my arse incase it all fucks up” routine. Zenit are notoriously difficult to negotiate with…..

  31. Jimbo

If Zenit are that desperate, why are we offering as much as £10m? Why not offer £5m? Or £3m?

The fact is, it will take a certain amount of money to get this done, and Arsenal aren’t willing to pay that much. The interest was only there when Wenger thought he could get a real bargain, but Zenit and Arsenal’s valuation was always too far apart to ever meet.

He won’t be signing with us. Wenger doesn’t have the cojones to push this one through.

  32. Jimbo

Rockstone – if we start that shit midfield, we’ll get exactly the same result we got last time we play Hull.

If Wenger is so fucking stupid that he thinks that a totally uncreative midfield will suddenly burst into life against Hull, he might as well play himself up front.

  33. PDT

Jimbo, I am not suggesting that Zenit are desperate. I am suggesting that Arshavin will find a way to set himself free.

  34. Jules

I know what you are saying but , don,t you remember the last window , oh and the one before . “I will sign 2 or 3 expirienced players , super , super etc we will be happy etc etc . I thought ribery was coming , I thought alonso was coming , they have,nt .

all we here is the players we could have signed and did,nt .. great

we need 2 or 3 quality players now so do it . don,t fail

  35. Steve

Good write up as usual Geoff.

Matt, I agree totally regarding Arshavin. I think the Russian season is finished anyway so he is not going to be match fit and able to play in January. This and the fact that the club know he wants to come is reason enough not to up the ante straight away.

  36. PDT

Geoff, the only Homer Simpson in this show is the one crouching on the sidelines with a constipated expression on his face.

  37. ethangunner

you knew wenger would come out with the THEY ARE LIKE NEW SIGNINGS BOLLOCKS !
we all said it in december …

    so fucking predictable ..
then you have man shitty …losers or not, they are shooting for the stars , literally !
you can feel the pressure of remaining in the top 4 coming to a boiling point …
the Spuds and redknob wanting to reshuffle his team like he has some master plan ,
and the model prototype in aston villa carving out a good side from an intelligent low cost
    purchases ….

song – eboue – ade – nikb – almunia are all useless tits … and wenger wont even move them on and get some funds to tweak the team into … well a TEAM !

sell these average performers and get 2 top class signings in the starting 11 ..

also secure RVP and theo if you havent done so already because we will hear you squawking about losing them next !!!!!!!!!!

  38. Steve

Jules, you are right but we can’t be too critical until the window is finished. For all we know we may be mighty close to finalising a few deals. If, come Feb 2nd we haven’t that’s when to complain.

  39. PDT

Jimbo, its amazing how you manage to disagree with someone who is saying the same thing as you!

Read my original entry. I said “If the rumours about Arshavin being willing to pay part of his ttransfer fee are true”. That would indicate that Arshavin really wants to join the Arsenal.

  40. Jules

    Jimbo hi mate

Im not there yet , I don,t want Wenger out , I just want the 2 or 3 players we obviously need and have been promised . I don,t think there are many better mamagers out there on a tight budget . But , if he lets us down again in this window , I will be swinging a little more towards your view .

  41. maqitlarge

As long as other clubs don’t come in for him, we’ll sign Arshavin. If they were in for him, they would have done so by now surely?
Zenit want to sell, Arsenal want to buy, players wants to come to Arsenal. Where does that leave us? Ah yes, the money grabbing whore of an agent the player has.
That 5mil Arshavin wants to contribute to his transfer is probably the agent’s fee, which is holding everything up.

  42. PDT

Steve, What, and miss out on a full two weeks of cribbing??!!

He may sign Arshavin and Upson and Buffon and Senna at the end of Jan, but in the intervening two weeks, I will have taken out all my frustration of my job and my life on Arsene Wenger!! My blood pressure will be lower, my arteries will be cleaner and my doc will be very happy!

  43. Jules

allright geezer , how you doing ?

yep , I guess you are right but the last window is so fresh in the memory .

Ie wait till the last minute and fuck it up . If we have no one by the 2nd of feb ……………………….ouch . this site wil be on fire !!

  44. choy

    morning all..

this is just wenger being stingy… some other club will steal arshavin away from us.. he just wants a way out of zenit.. ffs kenwyne jones is valued at 16 mill or so…

and we will end up with nothing and when arshavin lines up against us.. he will tell us how he nearly signed him!!!

5th richest club in the world for fucking what??!?!

  45. Jimbo

I’ve had enough of Wenger, I have to say.

I can’t remember the last time he’s handled a transfer window remotely competently, and that’s now such a big flaw in his management that I just can’t see how we can continue to let him pursue his own bizarre ideologies at the expense of the club. Back when it was us and Utd (and we didn’t have such a ridiculous transfer policy), we were so far ahead of other clubs that we didn’t have to worry too much about the odd mistake.

Now the margins are so fine, and there’s no room for error, and yet he’s making shedloads of them. I thought there was an outside chance that he’d seen the errors of his way this January, but obviously not.

We need to get shot, absolutely, and as soon as possible.

  46. Arsenal Tom

song and denilson in the middle and we could be in big trouble, id give diaby another go in CM if he doesnt show anytime by half time then he’s off for vela and move nasty nas into the middle.

hopefully the arsenal medical team are giving song the rosicky treatment and we wont see him for a year or 2.

didee… it was murphy injured not jack

  47. Steve

Get yourself a punchbag and draw Bentley’s face on it PDT. I’m quite confident for once that we’ll be happy come end Jan. Don’t ask me why, just feel that although Wenger has publicly supported the squad he isn’t best pleased. The only player I can ever remember him publicly critisise was Nelson Vivas after losing at Leeds.

  48. tonyadamsisgod

The Arshavin deal is simple maths:

    Fifa 2008 World Player shortlist:

Adebayor, Aguero, Arshavin, Ballack, Buffon, Casillas, Deco, Drogba, Eto’o, Fabregas, Gerrard, Ibrahimovic, Iniesta, Kaka, Lampard, Messi, Ribery, Ronaldo, Terry, Torres, Van Nistelrooy, Villa & Xavi.

Lets pretend that £15m would see us sign Arshavin. Agreed? Now how many of the players listed above, firstly, could be bought for £15m and secondly and probably most importantly are at a club that is willing to let them go for that price!!!!!!

I think you will find that there aren’t many in there. Wenger, its simple. Most people think £15m is acceptable. We may be right. You may be right. You may end up being proving that he is not worth that much when we look back at it. But what is true is that it is definitely a deal that is worth risking, especially if Fizman has given you the green light that he has done publicly on so many occasions now.

  49. charybdis1966

PDT, I agree with Jimbo in that I read his comment as asking for Wenger to be removed from contract negotiations – Wenger should stick to first team affairs and only say “I want X player” – after that he should butt out. I suspect Wenger thinks he is some sort of football version of George Soros.

It’s a bit like EL Tel thinking he was some sort of big time business man instead of a half decent football manager. Stick to what you’re employed to do Wenger !

  50. choy

tonyadamsisgod …wenger is being stingy.. thats all.. 15 mill these days gets you david fucking bentley.. not a world class star.

  51. Keyser

Bould : “He keeps having a slash at goal and we tell him not to but he keeps hitting the target,” Bould said after the victory. “He can get a bit carried away sometimes because he’s a young boy who’s learning. He’s growing up and we’re delighted with his development.

“I thought he was excellent in terms of his defensive side which is something we’ve worried about a little bit. But, for me, that was his best game and we’re delighted.”

    – Wtf’s wrong with having a slash ffs, make it as big and wild as possible, you’d think with todays youth and the increase in knife crime they’d be good at it.

Did anyone see Frimpong’s pass for the third goal, tough in the takle and excellant weighted throughball cutting the defence in two ?!

  52. Jules

    good point Jimbo

I don,t want him out but I don,t watch his interviews like I used to . ie with an excitment .

now I don,t feel conviced by him and think , is this more bull .

  53. kurt2000

I actually think Arsene is trying to ease the pressure that we NEED some new players, by saying the ones coming back will be the new signings we need. If Zenit knows we are desperate, they will try to push the price up, but if we are just buying a player to compliment our squad, they wouldn’t have that good cards on their hands. So I think what Arsene was saying what he said yesterday directly to Zenit. It’s like they are playing poker, and Arsene has just said.. Check…

  54. Steve

    Alright Jules, how’s tricks mate?

I’m strangely philosophical today. Fucking weird. Might have something to do with the fact i’m going to get bolloxed lunchtime.

  55. Pires02

Jimbo, you mentioned a couple of days ago that your ground staff mate indicated that the word was that we were advanced with negotiations for Diakite and i think looking unlikely for arshavin (something like that).
You said you fill us in as you were seeing him later that day. I’ve sadly been waiting :0)

    Good site by the way.

  56. tonyadamsisgod

choy – Agreed. He treats the clubs money as if it is his own. If wenger can’t see that Arshavin is worth the investment (probably on shirt sales alone) then there can only be 2 options. 1) He is removed from all transfer negotiations or 2) He is removed from the club completely.

What I wouldn’t give to see Dein handling these affairs……..

  57. Arsenal Tom

i agree with steve on this…

arshavin will be sorted soon its too far gone not to be. i think he’s got his eye on a CM to (if was happy he wouldnt have gone for inler, alonso and yaya…

however if he really is happy with what he’s got even with cesc fit then serious questions need to be asked of his and the clubs ambition

  58. Franchise

Ive lost respect for Arsene as a manager. He seems to have lost his competiveness big time. As every day goes by he comes up with even more shit. We dont even play fancy footie anymore. Whats the point? Lats year Crockin Van Persie was supposed to be our new signing in January according to Arsene. He lasted one half against spuds in the Carling Cup home tie and didnt feature untl like march. He was match rusty and didnt recover until this season. Im gonna try and hold my cool for now. If by 2 Feb we aint signed two world class players I would sing Arsene must be ousted in May

  59. Jules

    Very well Steve mate .

going skiing on sunday with the family , can,t wait , get away from all this bollocks for a bit !

hopefully return to some good news !

  60. choy

hey jules .. it sure is ridiculous…

how can you only offer 15 mill for a player who has played

about 312 games in which he has scored 71goals and has 107 assists!!!!

  61. Keyser

I don’t think the Arshavin deals simple, he was worth 16 odd million in the summer no-one came in for him, he can buy out his contract or leave on a free in the next summer ? So obviously his value is determined somewhere in between.

We bid 10-12 million up front, but since he’s untested in the Premier League and he’s in between seasons and his cup tied, we give the rest of it in add ons because of this and the price seems pretty damn fair considering he could leave for a lot less in the summer.

Zenit are just trying to take the piss and maximise their profit by touting him all over the place and playing it up the public eye hopefully finding bids from elsewhere.

  62. Mandanda

Although I’m not very keen on the Arsh, I think we’d be getting him judging from Wenger’s recent comments. From his exaggerated cautious approach, to have said that he is hopeful of signing him publicly suggests to me that the deal is closer to being done than we might think.
If we do sign him we would have to adopt a new formation when all player are fit
    I’d say

    Sagna JD Gallas Clichy

    -Diaby/decent DM

    Rosicky/Theo Arshavin Nasri

  63. choy

Jules.. you will still have that feeling whereby you think you have been away for a while… so hey we must have signed someone.. its even more painful..

  64. Matt

Where are you going Skiing Jules?

I am off to St. Anton tomorrow – Boarding though, none of this skiing malarcky…

  65. Arsenal Tom

tonyadams… these deals would have been signed and sealed under dein like the way man utd did their business for the 2 serbs, they are a bunch of cunts but i love the way they do their transfers, they go straight in find out the price negotiate it reasonably and then seal the deal in the first 3 days of the window. then they come out and say we’re all done for this window and the squad can settle down knowing nothings happening.

we couldnt be further away from them right now

    mornin all
great post geoff……i dont think arshvin will make it..the guy is makin personal effort to move from zenit but we seem to blow this oppurtunity to get (what arsene himself says is required) CREATIVE player…

  67. Jimbo

My mate doesn’t work on the groundstaff, and he’s never mentioned Diakite.

I think you’re getting confused with what someone may have posted here:

    “Richard Churchman (Arsenal fan) says…
I work as part of the ground staff at the emirates. Dont’t get your hopes up over Arshavin. The talk around the club is that a fee can’t be agreed. Zenit are asking for £17m and not a penny less. Apparantly Wenger has no plans to meet this valuation as his budget is limited. £12million is his max bid, because he also wants to bring in Lazio’s Diakate, and Schalke’s Defensive Midfielder Heiko Westermann

The James Chambers underneath (i.e. Jimbo!) is not me.

  68. Franchise

Pedro he might be able to buy his contract cos i believe the rules are applicable worldwide as long as the football association in the country is under FIFA

  69. Jules

Im going to Risoul in the south french alps . nice resort ,

skis for me mate , used to board a bit but too old for that stuff now ! knackering !

have a good one in st anton , that is on the list to go to ,

    who you going with ?

  70. choy

Why can’t we have an arshavin matchday fund at the emirates..

put the Reserves VS the First Team and fucking add the proceeds to the arshavin fund.

  71. Franchise

In the last 7 years we havent spent a dime on transfers cos the money we get in for transfers always exceed the money we get out. How can Arsenal be so skint then???? This question is for those that think we dont have money. We havent missed the CL group stages since 97. we never finished outside the top 2 until 2006. we have never finished out of the top 4 since 2006. We rake in the 2nd most money in revenue in England. 3rd in the world. Why wont Arsene spend some fucking dosh.

  72. Doublegooner

I posted this theory last yesterday.

The club are trying to buy Arshavin on the cheap, spending the money received from sell ons fees from Muamba,Bentley & Diarra.

I’m sceptical that if we land him that he’ll be the only one, unless others are sold or swapped.

  73. Pires02

That’s the one Jimbo! With SSN scolling all day long should have known that one….
Please try to get a mate in the groundstaff and update us here though, ok!

  74. Steve

Have a great time Jules. Fuck me pal, you’ve picked a good time to go. I hope for your sake they don’t do english papers.

  75. Jules

you are in for a good time , nite life is meant to be good there .

fresh snow , ( snowed on the 14th) good piste conditions now ,snow forcast , sun , mon , tues , sunny thur , fri . good stuff !

  76. Pedro

Franchise, I think the Webster rule is an EU rule… so I don’t think it is applicable?

Not sure though… He’s been there 8 years now, so if it was a rule… he could excercise it… but who would hear the case?

  77. Matt

I am going with 9 of the lads, so should be a giggle, although a couple are Yiddo’s – but dont hold it against them! 🙂

Never to old to board Jules, I am 33 now and can still handle it…

Problem is, i have never skiied, and dont go enough to warrant the time to learn!

I havent been to Risoul, been to Tignes and Val D’Isere a few times, and Chamonix.

Going to Breckenridge in March too, so this is just a teaser… 😉

  78. Keyser

I don’t think we have no money, I think we’re working on a budget though while the teams around us aren’t really. There must have been something we’ve spent our money on in recent years ? Hmm..

  79. Franchise

Pedro i just researched a bit on ‘Webster ruling’ (Wikipedia 😉 ) I cut this bit out relating to Arshavin buying out his contract

    Article 17
Article 17 of FIFA’s Regulations for the Status and Transfer of Players is entitled “Consequences of Terminating a Contract Without Just Cause”, and is the fifth article of Chapter IV, “Maintenance of Contractual Stability between Professionals and Clubs”. It outlines the provisions which apply if a contract is terminated without just cause, and the requirement for the party in breach to pay compensation.[9] Specifically, it states that any player who signed a contract before the age of 28 can buy himself out of the contract three years after the deal was signed. The window is shortened to two years if he is 28 or older.[10][11] Article 17 was introduced in December 2004, with effect from 1 July 2005.[12

  80. Jules

wicked Matt . you will have a crack im sure . im 42 so a bit older !

will geta board for a day if loads of fresh stuff .

make sure you wipe the yiddos out big styley !

  81. gazzap

I cant believe we are quibbling over a couple of million. whats a couple of million when your wage bill is £105m? its a tiny proportion of the wage bill. if we are that skint we shouldn’t be paying such massive wages to our squad players.
Pay Zenit £15m and reduce wages to £100m ie sack Song and Eboue!
Arsh might just us the impetus to get back in the title race and certainly will guarantee us the £30m windfall that is the Champions League. All this tight arse behaviour will only put us in a weaker position.

  82. saidu Turay

it really its good , but we need more to improve the squard, Arshavin, in parti
cular, let him in at the club. the window is runing, dont be relunctant as last season mr winger, try to make us the fans happy with trophies, our opponent are busy laughing at us everyday for not winning trophy as big
club. please, improve the squard now, there is money,& it belongs to the club, not to mr winger.spend it in good way by buying good players helps us win atleast one trophy this season. stop greed. football is money.

  83. Franchise

Whats the budget then Jules??? We have not spent any money on players in ages if you do the maths. Is that part of our revenue building strategy to always sell our best players and buy cheap crap replacements. Even Villa spent £48million last season. They paid £12million for James Milner and we are bidding £10million for Arshavin. What a bunch of jokers

  84. Franchise

I think the Court of Arbritration for Sports which is an international body made FIFA to change its view on players breaking contracts hence the Article 17

  85. kunle4fabregas

Please does anyone by chance have a link to the story that we are 5th or is it 7th richest sport club in the World? Kindly help me, anyone?

  86. Jules

    Its a joke Franchise

make me wonder if its just a load of bollocks ( again ) and we are not that serious
about buying arshavin and will no doubt hear an excuse as to why we failed to sign him!

  87. Jimbo

In fact, I don’t really think Wenger ever intended to sign Arshavin.

What he’s actually trying to do is create a fantasy XI of players he NEARLY signed.

He’s got Ronaldo, Essien, Ronaldinho, and bizarrely Robbie Earnshaw so far….

  88. tonyadamsisgod

Something must be going truly wrong at board room level. I know we have had to fund the Emirates project but how can we have such little money when there is that stupid statistic of us only spending about £45m in the last 10 years!? Man Useless, the chavs, the scousers and the spuds all spend about that in one season!! Some even on one or 2 players alone!! What are the board getting payed for if it isn’t to provide the club with a decent revenue and financial structure. Someone, somewhere has something to answer for!

  89. Angry Loner

    This be my one and only post for a bit, and I hope I’m jumping the Gun! But;

    Arsenal Equation;

Take; One (apparently)out of touch, arrogant, tightfisted complacent Board
Add; One (allegedly) cheapskate, arrogant stubborn deluded manager
Minus; One strong minded, knowledgeable Assistant manager/coaching staff
Plus; A (obviously) unbalacned, inexperienced, lightweight, wafer thin, inferior Squad

Equals; Completely fucked off, frustrated, (skint!) bunch of miserable Gooners!!!
Diveded into; Fairweather Plastics and mug diehards (coz we pay sooo effin bunch to be put thru all this palarver and kerfuffle!)

Jeeeeez! It aint THAT bad is it?

    Hope not!

gawd, can we not effin sign some decent players this chuffin month???
