Time to put the Carling cup to bed and wake up to what’s left.

by & filed under Uncategorized.

We all said it, play the Carling Cup side in the Premiership, we all did, well we won’t be saying that again will we? We can’t after the Burnley game, it showed that they aren’t ready for it yet, much the same as the senior side, they lacked that bit of bite that comes with age, and when I say age I don’t mean Silvestre, I mean Rosicky, we need to get in a few players that are ready now and not those with potential.

Ramsey, Merida and Wilshere all looked good and showed that if they had the support, they could do well at the highest level, we have a real chance in the league, Liverpool flatter to deceive, the chavs aren’t there for me this year, so that leaves the Mancs, and they look as solid as ever.

If we signed two players we would have enough to win the EPL, ECL and the FA Cup or at least one of them, Portsmouth did, didn’t they, are we not better than them?

We’ve said this a million times and we are just over 3 weeks away from doing it, a solid centre back and a tenacious midfielder, sign Flamini on loan and get a big bastard at the back, we are being linked with Brede Hangeland from Fulham, I don’t know enough about him to comment, do you?

Wigan next, then Boro away, then the scousers, win those three and we’ll be near the top, lose or draw and we can forget it, I think we can win all three but we need to start this weekend and a big win is necessary to prove we are better than the kids.

I’m going for a big score, but I would like to see Eduardo on the bench, I think that would give the team a massive lift.

Whatever money we had in the summer has gone up by another £30 mil form the EPL and £25 from the ECL. That may be my simple maths and you may tell me we don’t get that until ‘XYZ’ but we have it all the same. So maybe, just maybe, Wenger will surprise us after all he bought Reyes, Walcott and Adebayor in the window, and that was a surprise! So who knows? Arsene does, right?

Sorry about that, but it was a good way to end!

Have a great day Grovers.

Paulinho i know he is not finished article but he can be a more than adequate replacement for nikk and thats what we are all talking about here….and if nikk does nt leave i don’t want us to sign any striker…

  2. patthegooner

So its Wigan this weekend and return for Zaki

He is available, what do you think

One Season Wonder or Real Class?

  3. rookie

    hahahah @ raif….
at least it only wasted 1.04 minutes of your time…..thats enough ain’t it????

i know path i also wanted to bring some smiles to your faces…by showing myself a little unaware…lols

  4. Paulinho

Rookie, Wenger won’t play him up front cause he’s a midgets who weight about nine stones by the looks of it. He’s then going to play him wide, which will be a disaster if we play 4-4-2 cause of the defensive work needed.

At this stage in his career he can only play as wide attackers in a 4-3-3. Is Wenger going to spend £15 million plus on unproven, small, 18 year old and then change his whole system by accomodating him during his ‘learning’ process.

I doubt it. But then, nothing would surprise me with Arsene when it comes to ‘potential’.

  5. patthegooner

I am always wary of players being dubbed “the new ……”

I remember being caught out with it about 10 years ago. We were heavilly linked with a player called Marcelo Gallardo who was apparently the new Maradonna. In the end we supposedly lost out on him and he went to Monaco, I remember being gutted at the time.

He is now more of a Marcelo Who and plys his trade for DC UTD in the MLS

  6. raif

    Lada lets get real here.

Vela was playing Week in Week out in La liga. and his 19 years of age and has only been getting games in the Carling Cup. and the odd sub in the Prem.

Bojan. will get the same treatment no matter how much potential he has.

  7. Paulinho

    Lionel Messi is unbelievable.

Behind him you have Aguero, Tevez, Ortega, Veron, Gallardo, Riquelme, Aimar. All good players but overhyped.

Aguero is the new guy seen as the new sensation but he’s just another Tevez or slightly better. A stocky, quick, skillful forward.

Messi is the the type of player that comes about once every twenty years.

  8. raif

rookie iv always liked Bojan. it might sound silly but i heard about Bjoan before i had seen the player in action on on of the old FOOTBALLMANAGER games when he was only 18.

i used to sign him for arsenal allt he time and was a star for me every season. i had to Sell one of my Big Boy Strikers just to keep him happy.

as my Attacking line (at the time) Was, Henry, Tevez, Owen, Bojan, Reyes and 1 another Striker i cant remember. but they was top class. i had to let Owen go and Demote another lol.

  9. rookie

ok who will you guys pick?????

    Ronaldo or Messi……

obviously not keeping in mind Ronaldo plays for united…only based on skill

i will pick Messi 100 times out of 100

  10. Big Raddy

    Paulinho.

You are wrong about Tevez. He is a wonderful player. OK it was only B’burn last night, but he was just fantastic. If we could afford him …….. same old, same old…..

Messi is good for sure, ‘but once in 20 years’ ? What about Zidane, and Ronaldo (at his peak a phenomena), in fact what about TH14 ? In fact, what about Maradona ?

And please don’t tell me Messi is better than TH14 in his pomp.

  11. rookie

    lols Raif….

    bojan is still 18….

my team usually has attacking line of

Pato, Bojan, Benzema,Aguero,Van persie some times eto’o and henry…lols

  12. Wrighty7

    Evening Geoff/Pedro and Le Grovers,

    Great post.

I really believe that Arsenal will win the Champions League this season. I’ve just done a post on it on my blog.

We wont be Champions of England but we will be Champions of Europe!!!!

  13. Paulinho

    BRaddy

Messi > Ronaldo, Henry, Zidane, Ronaldo(brazil)
    0

All great players but apart, from Ronaldo(brazil), didn’t hit their stride until early to mid twenties.

The Brazilian Ronaldo would be second.

However Messi was unbelievable at 18/19. It’s only because of several bad thigh injuries that he hasn’t done more than his ability demands. He scored twenty goals as a playmaker two years at 19! Phenomenal.

  14. Keyser

All those players are different and developed at different ages.

For the type of player Ronaldo was he was as good if not better than Messi at that age, he was devastating. He didn’t just score goals he scored great goals.

It’s going to be interesting to see how Messi develops, he had to have growth hormone injections as a kid because he was soo short and it’s oneof the reasons he he’s had soo many injuries.

I think Guardiola’s only allowing him to play 120 minutes a week as a guideline so he doesn’t burn himself out too quickly.

  15. JonJon

    Stu,

i like cana’s agression, but i dont think he’ll fit into our side, hes not technical enough,

when i saw him on you tube in the summer i wanted us to sign him but ive watched him alot this season to see what hes about and hes been shit all season,

hes abit of a myth that bloke

i dont rate metzelder either, i watched him in the euros and he reminds me of senderos, hes too slow to cope with the PL

Dont know anything about cavenaghi or hillderbrand so i cant comment

  16. Paulinho

The thing about Messi is that he doesn’t need the team ‘helping him out’. All he does is peel off to the left, receive a simple pass, and motor away doing devastating damage. The Barca team nearly completely relies on him.

Players like Aguero, Tevez, Bojan, Eduardo, Adebayor, need the team cause they play further up the pitch and need service.

  17. Big Raddy

And Maradona at 19 was already accepted as the Best.

At 16 he played his first full International in a good Argentina side . At 18 he scored one of the best goals ever v Scotland at Hampden.

It is no accident that he was voted best player of the 20th century.

I was lucky enough to see him play a few times.

  18. kelsey

    Paulinho,

i watched a rerun of our 5-0 away thrashing of spurs in 1978 on arsenal tv and brady wasn’t too dissimilar to messi.i had forgotten what a great player he was,he had vision, speed and a great left foot.

  19. Big Raddy

Would I take the current Messi over TH at his peak – no way.

But that is like asking if I would prefer a Porsche, or an Aston Martin. Either would be a dream

  20. Keyser

You could say that about Ronaldinho aswell, they looked lost without him last season, they had all these good players who were good but without Ronaldinho and with Messi injured for most of the season they looked a bit clueless at times.

They began to rely on him abit too much a bit like us and Henry a couple of seasons back.

It’s amazing how strong he is for someone so small.

  21. Big Raddy

I went to the Ardiles Testimonial at Shite Hart Lane. On the pitch that night were Brady (he was at Inter at the time), Maradona, Hoddle, and Ardiles. They were all fantastic.

When Brady scored a 30 yarder the whole place booed. Liam just laughed !!

  22. Paulinho

That’s the price you pay for having incredibly good players. However, it naturally occurs in sides that there is a hierachy of players, even in sides without stars. Henry, Fabregas, Hleb. All ‘hierachy’ players in terms of receiving the ball when the team doesn’t know what to do.

Kelsey, never really saw Brady play. Bit before my time.

  23. Keyser

It’s probably because it was against Getafe/ Levante in one of the Cup competitions.

There’s not many videos of Marardona about but the ones you find you realise why he was considered that Great, compared to Ronaldo, Messi gets kicked around quite a bit without making much of a deal about it, Maradona used to get completely battered.

  24. London

    Big Raddy

You make an iteresting point about Brady; he was as good as Messy is now, Maybe not quite as quick over the ground but with out a doubt he had the same level of skill in that left foot. So if any of you guys wonder why we still go on about Brady, imagine the excitement of having Messi at the Emirates now and you are getting close to how we felt about having Brady at Highbury.
Brady, Brady, Brady, Brady born is a king of Highbury.

  25. Big Raddy

What a strange day on Le Grove.

We had a midday political rant , goat fucking, which players will not be coming to THOF and an hour + without a comment.

  26. Big Raddy

Isn’t that a line from Floyd song London.

‘just nod if you can hear me
Is there anyone home ? ‘

One of the greatest songs ever…… Comfortably Numb

  27. Stu

I stayed out of it because I dont really know anything about it, so I wouldnt know where to start. But everytime I checked people sounded pretty pissed. It was more than a little heated.

  28. raif

you dont want to know Choy..

you really dont to .its been nothing but a bunch of Funky Goat antics on le-grove tonight lol.

having said that im off to bed. Till tomorrow 🙂

  29. gnarleygeorge9

So Roy Keane has bolted. I would say he is looking for a club that will spend to his ambitions. Maybe holding out for Man City?

………anyway, its been quiet on the nightshift.

  30. gnarleygeorge9

    Wigan tomorrow.

Arsene needs to leave no stone unturned in preparing for this one. We cannot accept anything less than a victory. A draw or a loss 🙄 No! I won’t here of it 👿

  31. gnarleygeorge9

Whats going on overthere in the Old Dart? Don’t tell me you are all snowed in.

Big Raddy are you snowed in up there?

The England cricket team will be snowed under when we get hold of them next year 😆

    ethan

you are probably sipping on a cocktail now up there in the tropics.

I’m slurping on a dark rum down here in rainy ville.

  32. gnarleygeorge9

evo surely you are there, or @ Friday drinks @ the pub 😉

Its been 9 hours since anyone posted other than me.

  33. Big Raddy

    Morning/Afternoon GG

No snow here but F’ing cold and raining.

Strange day on Le Grove yesterday. Emotions ran high !!

  34. iceman

Gnarley I’m thinking once bitten twice shy……..he won’t let the aftermath of the united game repeat itself………..here’s to hoping……..think we’ll edge it 3-1 though 😉

  35. gnarleygeorge9

    BR/iceman

    Good to see ya.

We’ve had near record rainfalls here in Tas.

If he phucks this game up I’ll kick the cat. Hang on we don’t have a cat.

I’ll give next doors dog a lead lolly (bullet) instead.

  36. Big Raddy

What a strange Autuumn it has been.

Economically, weather . and of course footie wise.

We lose to Stoke and Hull !! WTF

  37. Pedro

I haven’t read back Gnarley! I saw an Aussie band last night… I wondered if the singer was a secret Grover! haha!

Did it get heated on here?

  38. gnarleygeorge9

I’m not sure Pedro, I didn’t comment, but Big Raddy said strange things happened, & no one commented for 9 plus or minus hours.

    Aussie band? Who?

  39. London

I notice that Miles Palmer has just summed up Le Grove’s comments of the last four days. Very original Miles, very original.

  40. kelsey

    gnarley,and all
    buenos dias from sunny spain.

goat’s cheese for breakfast with a nice song on the radio, cup of coffee with goat’s milk, very healthy apparently. 🙂

  41. Geoff

Morning Kelsey, WordPress changed everything yesterday and we had problems too, Pedro has emailed them to find out what the fuck is going on.

    Technology eh!

  42. gnarleygeorge9

With a bit of a tweek or two that line up could win the Champions League. Rosiky for ramsay maybe, but if the players are in form. Bang Shangalang!!!!!!

  43. gnarleygeorge9

Actually, Rosicky is a key ingredient IMO. But with a lack of pre season, etc could he make it to Rome for the Biggy

  44. Geoff

Rosicky has had it in my opinion, he has to be the worst buy Wenger has made, great player, but how many games has he played?

  45. gnarleygeorge9

Diaby is always injured. I’d flog him off to some unsuspecting club I buy someone similar who doesn’t get injured all the time. Sounds simple, but actually it is 😉
