A joy to watch, but let’s not paper over the cracks.

A fabulous display from the young lions last night, Pedro will do a match report later, but I wanted to post this first.

We were awesome from the middle to the front and captain Almunia had his best ever game for the Arsenal, he should keep the armband as he showed what a captain should do, well done Manuel, England’s next number one.

The midfield were solid and Cesc and Diaby should be the pairing with Theo and Nasri on the flanks, this should be the way forward, and before anyone says that Diaby played off Ade, I know, but think what it would be like if we dropped Denilson and brought back RVP or another forward, unstoppable.

The defence was superb with Eboue doing a stellar job but Song was woeful, there were a few of you last night saying he scored so get off his back, but his shit defending led to two conceded goals, he gave away a shocking free kick for the first and he gave a brilliant assist to Guiza for the second, if it wasn’t for Almunia there would have been more, he simply isn’t good enough and the quicker Wenger realises it, the quicker we’ll start winning things again, that’s three games we’ve played on the spin and we’ve conceded 4 goals, all of them down to Song.

I don’t hate him, I just think he is not good enough, he is the weak link, when Djourou came on we looked more solid, but Song is slow and will cost us.

He scored a good goal, not bad 2 in 4 years, but we’ll be a much better team without him.

Last night was one of the greatest games I have seen us play and up there with the two Milan games, the Juve one and the Real Madrid win, it was great to watch, the finishing was top drawer and we really look like we can do something playing like this, don’t blow it Arsene, you have the players, play the right ones.

Ade and Eboue were simply superd last night, Eboue was played in his one and only position and he did well, but Nasri, Theo, Cesc and Diaby carved them up, and regardless of how bad they were, we were playing in a shit hole of hate and we hammered them, all credit to the referee.

Let’s see if we can push on from there. Ramsey played his part and that’s what we need waiting in the wings, with Vela, Bendtner and Wilshere there too, the future looks assured, but Song has to go.

I look forward to Pedro’s summing up later.

Have a great day and go find some spuds to torment!

Well, I am still GIDDY … and on the whole Geoff, I agree with every word you say; Song is the weak link, Cesc had a brilliant game, as did Diaby and I do think, with time, Silvestre could be very usefull in defence linked with Djouru maybe (or Gallas?) as for Diaby, what a game he had, as a team they did perform last night, entertaining, exiting, nerve wrecking etc etc; now, hopefully, they can concentrate on the league and win this Sunday against West Ham would be a good start. Liked Vela when he came on.Have a GOOD day. xxx

  2. Steve

I got pissed and haven’t recovered, but still feel great. Your point about our defending is true Geoff, but you take the first 2 centre backs and the first choice right back from any team and they’d struggle out there. Just as well we have some clinical finishers. I still have no idea what Djourou has done to upset the boss. Maybe he fucked his nan or something?

  3. Nil

Diaby is a great attacking asset for us. He played in his natural position as an attacking midfielder which I’ve wanted to see for a long time.

But are you really saying you want Fabregas taking on a more defensive role? Using last night’s game to justify dropping Denilson for Diaby doesn’t make any sense unless you want Fabregas playing further back, giving Diaby license to go forward.

On another note, I’m still VERY worried about our CB problem.

  4. SIMON MCAHON

to be its simple we have some great players BUT SONG WILL NEVER BE ONE , to take it further if fit i would like to see silvestre play CB all the time with JD,
if sana comes back in against the hammers i hope jd will come in for song, eboue should play as right back cover ONLY,
    ROLL ON THE SPUDS GAME!!!!!!!!!!11

  5. CDjones

Spot on about Song. Would much rather see Djourou in there. About the same age as Song, but Djourou looks much more assured, and you’re not really worried he’s gonna do something like give a perfect header to the leading scorer in La Liga last year.

  6. Fab4

I disagree about Song’s contribution to their first goal. He stepped in and made the block on the guy in a fairly safe area of the field, AFTER Eboue had been too slow to react to the Fener player’s drive forward.

If you ask me, Silvestre was the weak link in defence.

You can’t really blame the defence though. We were missing 3 out of our first choice back four.

  7. Franchise

Pedro/Geoff nice to read ur post. I couldn’t really believe the fickle nature of some fans on here last night. It got to a point where I was being told that fininshing 3rd again does not equate to mediocricity. All cos we thrashed a woeful team. Like u said if it werent for Alumnia it would have been so so different

  8. Franchise

Fab4 please could you try and watch the highlights of the game. Song could have chased after the ball rather than obstruct the player. he did it again against R.Carlos and was lucky not to be sent off

Great result last night, but I thought the defense were shambolic. Even Clichy had some scary moments. The centre backs were awful. Every time the ball was played over them, Guiza was clean through and was luckily flagged offside all the time (even though some of them were onside). Eboue played well, although he drifted out of position on a few occassions. Diaby was superb and a fantastic cameo fro Ramsey. He was looking for the ball every time. This boy is going to be a huge star!

Juande Ramos, shortly after another training session, comments to the head groundsman at White Hart Lane how impressive the pitch is looking. “It ought to,” replies the groundsman. “We put 70 million quid’s worth of manure on it every week.”

  14. Confidentgoner

    Pedro,

Good performance from the boys. I especially liked the role and skill of Diaby. He linked up very well and is a threat to RVP. Notice that there were few balls wasted. 6 goal attempts led to 4 goals. Very efficient. That is not to say that am calling for RVP’s head though, but I would love him to improve his shooting.

Imho, Diaby is not our answer to a DM. You will kill him there. Unless Bischoff has something different to offer, we are really left with either leaving Dennilson in that role or allow Djoru to play that role. Djoru brought agility, presence and strenght which Dennilson has not discovered.

I thought the first goal was down to an own goal by Sylvestre? It is unfair to heap both goals all on Song. He played OK, with one costly mistake. Can we do with a better defender? yes. Am still scratching my head to understand the reason why AW is not willing to play Djoru as a CH. The only reason I can think of is that he reckons Song is better for that role. I will take |Djoru as a CH over Song any day, but maybe within the team context, a DM role may be best fit for Djoru once either Gallas or Toure is fit. I think the new defence combo have not clicked enough and would cost us against a top side. Based on what we have Galls Toure combo is worth dying for!

Nice to see young Ramsey. He is amazing, but he is no DM. He is either a creative player in Cesc’s mold or a support striker and yes, this lad is ready to play!

  15. Confidentgoner

The midfield looked better because of Diaby always tracking back to win the ball and some improvement in Dennilson’s play last night.

  16. DH16

Really good game last night and its hard to criticise but i agree we cannot paper over the cracks, for me it is blatantly obvious Song isn’t in the same class as the rest of the team but I do slightly feel for him, after all its not really his fault he gets picked in front of JD. Also, although Denilson had a better game last night I do feel he is somewhat carried by the team and relies heavily on cesc and the other midfielders. Contrary to what others believe though he is still a great talent, I would just like to see him played less regularly, for now anyway.

  17. Odub

    Morning all,

    Top post and spot on.

I sat there last night and marvelled at how good diaby, cesc and theo looked, outstanding I thought.

Now lets be honest with ourselves.

How many times are we likely to score 5 goals away from home in any competition? Fernabache were shyte! The worst I’ve ever seen them!!

Great game yes, but we were shit at the back. The FB’s were average, the CB’s were poor. But the only one who came out looking world class was Almunia! He was MOTD for me. I do believe that is the best I have seen him play and he conceeded 2 mainly because those in front of him went walkies quite often. I lost count of the amount of times Guiza lost our CB’s.

I must admit that I have never been a fan of our goalie but after seeing his performance last night, I have to say he’s good enough for us.

Roll on the appy ammers and the spuds, we’ll do them but need to be weary that we’re not quite good enough at the mo, and will fall short….unless of course finally realises that JD is a better defender than the 2 who played in the middle last night and one of Kolo and WG come back soon!

    Still, great result last night!

  18. arsenal nairobi

diaby was great but he tired in the second half, ramsey should have come in earlier. Eboue was fantastic at rb reminded me of the year we got to the champions league final. all in all great game really bad defending and denilson was shit, he left the back four exposed a couple of times. Alumnia my man of the match, Clichy a close second. Bring on the spurs, lol

  19. georgiaan-gunner

Very positive post Geoff, yesterdey DIABY wa outstanding, but don’t you think, sagna-toure-willy.g-clichy in defense teo-cesc-diaby-nasri in middle and up front ade-and wonderboy will be very offensive?!?!?!

  20. Fab4

Franchise – I watched the game live last night and the highlights this morning and that is what my opinion is based on. Song is not the quickest so rather than let the player go past him, he made the foul, in an area of the pitch that should not be too dangerous (if it wasn’t for our woeful defending)

Did you not see the slowness of Eboue to react?

Don’t get me wrong, I am not a huge fan of Song, and he was definitely to blame for the 2nd goal. I am referring to the first goal in particular, and do not believe he gave away “a shocking free kick”.

  21. finestcuts

5 goals on the road and against a moody crowd, well done lads. Everyone knows we have
problems in defence and that our game plan is to keep the game open, keep attacking, we’ll spill blood doing that but it has to be done because when we’re attacking we’re an absolute nuisance, we find spaces, move the ball around fluidly.
Song has proved that he still needs a few more games at reserve level to become what’s needed in defence.
We’re not going to get any midfielders in the transfer window, but maybe a defender? Either that or Nordveit gets a first team slot and doesn’t get sent back to Spain. He had some outstanding reserve performances before he was injured last year, Wenger says he’s ready technically but not physically, I hope he’s upped his dinner portions and is ready to play for us again in January because I just don’t see us getting anyone off the market.
Give Djourou a chance, Song’s method of defence is barging into opponents instead of going for the ball, he looked uncomfortable in a lot of one on ones. It’s nice that he got on the scoresheet but because of dodgy defending it can only be classed as compensation.

  22. DH16

    Georgian Gunner –

That team would be extremely offensive and with the two attacking full backs we look like a team Real Madrid would have played some years ago when there philosophy was ‘it doesn’t matter how many you score, we’ll score more’
not quite sure that would work on a regular basis though but definately a formation worth trying against weaker opposition, especially at home.

Fab4 he’s not the quickest, hes not the tallest at least u have agreed that the guy is not fit to wear the shirt. What does he offer? And by the way Song could have chased that ball and then if he realises that the attacking player would get to it b4 him then he has the option to run goalside…. the attacking player then has it all to do by beating Song in a 1v1 or picking a team mate with a pass. if Song had done this he might have also gotten a team mate probably the RB to support him but he’s unintelligent add those to his qualities

Are Spurs beyond a joke? We don’t think so – here are 25 reasons why the club’s worst start to a season in their long and distinguished history is a laughing matter

A man is sitting in a pub with his jack russell dog one Sunday afternoon. The football results are coming up on the television in the corner: “Stoke City 2, Tottenham Hotspur 1,” reads the announcer. Suddenly the jack russell jumps up and shouts out, “Oh, no, not again.” The shocked landlord says, “That’s amazing. Why did he say that when it was announced that Tottenham lost?” “Because he’s a Spurs supporter,” the dog’s owner replies. The landlord then asks what the dog says when Tottenham win a match, to which the man replies, “I don’t know. I’ve only had him six months.”

  28. Fab4

Franchise – are you sure you watched the highlights? How could Song get the RB to help him? The RB was Eboue, and he was further up the field than Song and had just been passed as if he wasn’t there. Song had no-one behind him covering so he took the man out rather than have him go past him.

What does he offer? He scored a cracking goal. Maybe we should put him up front when RVP gets crocked again!!!

  29. DH16

Definitely, do you not feel that sometimes this season we have seemed a bit scared to really go at teams from the off. Most of our goals seem to come in the second half of matches after constant pressure all first half. Im sure we would really scare some teams if we went all out attack early on. I can remember in the invincible season and around that team we would always score in the first twenty minutes of a game.

  30. iceman

DH16 those times…..20 mins on the clock and we would be 2-3 nil up most times and the rest was just a kick about. Sigh. Good times.

  31. Franchise

Fab4 u dont seem to realise what it takes to win a trophy in this day and age. If we keep sympathising with players like Song when we’ve got other adequate options then we would win f*ck all. Song has been at the club since the summer of 2005, he’s made 40 appearances and he still cant snuff out danger and deal with it. Mind you with the free kick he gave away the guy was pushing the ball into a wide area there was no cause to panic especially as we were leading 2 nil

  32. charybdis1966

Morning all, I wonder if Bud stuck to his decision to watch the stiffs last night, as he said he would, as he thought the stiffs would be a better game.
I must say a word about our pass master, aside from his overall defensive show being more than adequate his brave block when a Fener forward was sliding in on a parry from Almunia is worthy of acclaim. His assist for Rambo’s goal too showed his best side, i.e. his pace and trickery on the edge of the box.

Yes, it was only one game and we definitely creaked at the back, but let’s hope we use this performance as a spring board to improve our league form, unlike after the Milan game last season where we failed to beat Wigan on the ploughed field(courtesy of another one of ‘ole 65% proof nose’s proteges).
It seemed a little odd to see Djourou as a midfielder when he did come on – why oh why didn’t he replace Song and not Theo ? I would have taken off Denilson for Ramsay and given Theo a breather by bringing on Vela and pushing Nasri out wide.

  33. Taiye love TH14

Does anyone have links for the goals. I missed the game last night but catch the goals on Skynews, but am not satisfy enough.

  34. Steve

Anyone else had to make apologies this morning?? My mate phoned a minute ago to ask why I sent a text at 11p.m asking “Hello yid cunt, anything interesting happen in Eastenders”. hehehehehe I don’t think his wife appreciated it very much.

  35. DH16

Iceman- the thing is we have similar players who could do that now. Ljungberg, pires, henry… Nasri, Walcott, Ade.. DB10 – Van Persie..
I am sure with a change in attitude and approach to the gaem we could do that again!!

  36. Angelos

I’m sorry but I fail to see what Ade did apart from the goal. It’s funny because I’m gonna get people telling me to piss of and stop complaining coz he scored but the very same people will tell me next week, if he doesn’t get the goal, that it’s about his overall contribution. I’m sorry but that’s just lazy association on a ridiculuosly short sighted level.

I agree that Song’s not good enough…yet. But that’s not his fault. The downside to giving so many chances to young players is that you then cannot meter expectation for each individuals’ pattern of growth. Everyone expects so much straight away because of the standards set by Anelka, Vieira, Fabregas, Toure and now it seems Ramsey as well. It’s not all Song’s fault because technically he shouldn’t be starting so many games.

With Cesc, Nasri, Diaby and Van Persie we’re on a good thing, when Rosicky returns it will be even better…and when Eduardo returns it’ll be close to complete in the attacking section, with Theo adding that quality in depth we lack.

  38. Evo in Oz

    gday all,

back from the afternoon celebrations at the pub!

good stuff i must say, i love winning by a shitload of goals and pulverising the opposition at the start like we did.

those thru balls by Cesc for the first 2 goals were glory day, you just cant buy that shit anywhere!

  39. Rich

Nice write up and great to see the attcking play look so threatening after a lot of Euro away trips stunting us going forwards.

Unfortunately at the back the same praise can not apply but it isn’t only the back four that should take the blame. We clearly had a plan to play a high line with Almunia acting as sweeper but that plan is impossible if the midfield doesn’t pressurize the ball and with Denilson in that role, its just not possible.

He simply is not good enough to play the defensive midfield role as he can neither tackle or position himself that well. He continues to run past the ball when the opposition is attacking and doesn’t have the sense to keep with runners. The only moment he looked comfortable was when Djourou came on in DM and allowed him to play on the left and go forward.

I fear that he is the man in residence in that position but I’d love either Song (so not to be CB) or alternatively Djourou to be given that role and allow Cesc to play his natural game.

No Premier League team is going to be quite so open at the back as they were last night and without some serious work in the midfield I fear that high back line is going to give us all heart attacks.

On the bright side, most teams rarely test Almunia so its nice to see him prove his worth.

  40. Taiye love TW14

sorry steve about the mixup in my usernames, I guess I still missed the legend wearing that shirt before.

  41. Steve

Angelos, I agree regarding Ade. He looks as though he is playing within himself at the moment. Much like Ronaldo at Man Yoo. I wonder why???????

  42. Queen of Suburbia

Song is good enough as squad player. Not ready for more yet, but not every player Wenger tries to bring through early is going to be Cesc…

For me, it was logical we were a little shaky – we had arguably our 4 and 5 choice centrebacks and our 3rd choice right back on the field.

  43. Odub

    Angelos,

Piss off and stop moaning!! He scored didnt he?!!! 😉

    I’m kidding mate.

I’m with you, he didnt do sod all apart from the goal (which was ok I guess), but Diaby did better, and got a fcuking standing ovation FROM THE HOME FANS when he came off!!! Now anyone who knows Fernabache and turkish football will tell you that NEVER happens!

  44. Fab4

Franchise – I don’t think you get my point. I am not “sympathising with players like Song”. All I am saying is that the free kick he gave away was in a wide area near the half way line. So it was not exactly what Geoff described as “a shocking free kick”.

The first goal conceded last night was more down to Silvestre than anyone else. Not because of the deflection but why wasn’t he challeging for the first ball in?

  45. Steve

Hahahaha, no probs mate. I was actually referring to the Taiyelove bit.

    AS in Thai Love???

Don’t worry, i have an odd sense of humour.

  46. ikon

Ade subbed for Vela… is this the sign for things to come?

And spare some slack on song, to be fair timings of the runs of Guiza were exceptional, and secondly, a few days back he had played as RB now CB, give him time in this position he will be better than Gallas.

    How I miss Senderos!

  47. Franchise

It was shocking cos if he had persisted and chased the ball no matter how slow he is he would have won it or at least cleared for a throw in. he got a yellow for it and was stupid enough to repeat it in the same position. If he had gotten sent off I doubt if we would have won the game.

  48. ikon

and ohh btw is Diaby can remain fit, he will make an impact unheard of before.
Skills and skills and more skills, he is prodigal with the ball at his fit.

Nasri is far from a Hleb replacement, A fit Diaby will fin in the void of Hleb.

Pray to God he stays fit.

  49. kelsey

    Good Morning all,
I like others felt there was too much critism last night about the lads,I am happy today, the right team turned up and were a joy to watch even if both defences were a comedy act.
diaby showed me in 70 minutes that he has more skill than Ade has shown in 8 matches. If he remains fit,he will be a huge asset.

  50. DH16

Franchise – He did not committ a similar foul at all, on the second occassion roberto carlos quite clearly altered his run to hit into Song! bit harsh to have a go at him for that!

  51. Geoff

Confident, how did you think Song was not responsible for the first goal??? He got a yellow card for blocking Carlos and they scored from the resulting free kick, Silvestre couldn’t get out of the way.

If Song hadn’t made the foul they wouldn’t have scored, much the same as if he hadn’t have kicked the ball out of play for a throw in against Sunderland they wouldn’t have thrown the ball to the player who scored.

It was Song’s fault, he’s too short and has no pace, he can’t track back, all he can do is barge.

    Bring on Djourou.

  52. Mandanda

Admittedly, Song did not have his best match but he wasn’t any worse than Silvestre. To blame him for the second goal or the first goal is just lazy analysis IMO.

It’s clear from the match what our tactics were. Although we played with 4/5 midfielders, our defenders did not sit deep but instead compressed the play in the middle and tried relying on offside and Almunia sweeping behind them. Consequently, the way the opposition could beat this defence would have been to play diagonal/through balls over the top as it was difficult to get round them or play through them. In the main, our tactic was successful as they were caught off side most of the time but on one of these occassions Song decides to head the ball as he thought he could get it. His header might have gone straight to Almunia, dropped to Guiza, out of the pitch, to our own player etc etc. The point is, he made a genuine attempt to clear the ball but was unlucky, if we condemn every player that is unlucky then maybe we should we should leave football to robots and if you blame Song for the second goal how about blaming Silvestre for the first? He scored it right?
I would suspect that our tactic was adopted as this was a makeshift set of defenders with little or no experience playing as a collective (which is partly why AW did not change the CB pairing).

    Nice post Geoff

Are you mad??? The defence wasn’t solid. It was very poor to be honest. You’re right about us being very very good from the midfield onwards but the defence let in Guiza about 10 times. We held such a high line which I don’t understand after Fenerbache got through on goal quite a few times. Manuel Almunia did the job with an excellent performance. The midfield 5 worked well but I agree with the article that we should drop Denilson and bring in RVP upfront. Diaby really stepped up yesterday night and after a 3 month injury he gave a Man Of The Match performance. Cesc was back to his usual best controlling the midfield, if only he scored!! There were sloppy games from Clichy and Nasri (as we’re so used to them being so consistent) but that didn’t matter. Walcott is getting better and better and thats all I need to say about him. One last word on Adebayor, which is at the moment he’s nowhere near good enough. He needs to work on his timing of runs because the number of times he is offside is unbelievable. He has to win more balls that come from deep considering his size and power. Finishing still could improve and stick to the basics rather than trying fancy stuff. Other than that I am very pleased with the attacking performance we gave out in Turkey. COME ON YOU GUNNERSSS!!!!!!

  54. DH16

I think Song makes the game interesting just like Senderos did, you just dont knwo what to expect next. Just when you begin to think they look assured and a decent player they will do something totally stupid minutes later

  55. Geoff

Mandanda, he put in a fabulous lob to Guiza to score, who else’s fault was it? It was like Ashley Cole’s lob for England.

    Great assist, wrong team though.

  56. Fab4

Franchise – now you are just being silly! So if he had chased the player with the ball who would have been past him and bearing down on goal, despite being slower, he would have won the ball or at least cleared it for a throw?!?!?!

It seems to me that you have more faith in Song’s ability than I do!!

    morning all,

    WENGER COMMENTS THERE AFTER………….

On the nature of the game…

“It was a very open game because the two teams were going forward. Fenerbahce are an attacking side and are very dangerous. Both teams were going forward 100 per cent but the fact we scored an early goal forced Fenerbahce to come out and we caught them many times on the counter-attack.

“It was open because we scored early and it forced them to come completely at us. Overall our pace, movement and technique made the difference and allowed us to take advantage of it but it was not an easy game.”

On the youth of his side…

“I am very proud of the team. The average age was 23 and I am proud because we came in and tried to dictate the game in a very heated atmosphere. It is very pleasing that they seemed to play with no fear. I am pleased to see it works. We came here and had a go. We started strong, we remained quite strong and we finished strong.”

On the state of the group…

“We have not qualified but we need one more victory.”

    On Ramsey scoring…

“It is fantastic. The boy is only 17 and to come on and show that he is not scared to play and wants the ball. He has a presence in the game straight away when he comes on, you see that. It is very good to see.”

    On Theo Walcott’s finishing…

“Once again early in the game he got a good goal and he always gives you hope he can make things happen.”

On English clubs dominating in Europe again this season…

“It is early to say that but the English clubs have a good chance to come out of the group stages, that looks very positive.”

On how the result will be viewed around Europe…

“We want to improve. There are things in our game we want to focus on.The next game we face West Ham on Sunday and that is more important than what people say about us.

“But I hope people who love to watch us we have given them some good moments so they love football.”

On Aragones and specifically on whether he would like to coach Fenerbahce…

“Fenerbahce have a very good coach. They just need to give him time work things out. I have a contract with Arsenal until 2011.”

we can allhave a pop at the defence and rightly so HOWEVER i would like to see chel$ki, manUre or the pool play a CL match without 3 of the usual back 4

  60. Patrick7

Morning Grovers. Got back from a long holiday Monday. Saw the game last night: a fantastic result and brilliant performances by Almunia, Walcott, Ramsey etc but agree with Franchise – Song could have and possibly should have been sent off.

Instead of turning half round to obstruct, he should have been focussed on chasing the ball albeit in the path of Roberto! To be looking at the player makes it obvious his main intention is to obstruct. He’d been given a yellow card for the offence and with a different ref would have been off. With 10 men things could have been different!

  61. Steve

Apparently all premiership games this weekend have been suspended due to irregular betting activity…………

Somebody walked into William Hill on the seven sister road and put a fiver on Spurs to win.

  62. Geoff

Eduardo fair point, but if you’re going to have a makeshift defence then at least make it your best one, Djourou should be our first choice, not Song, Djourou should be partnering Gallas or Toure, yet he didn’t get a look in, Song did.

patrick would you not agree that the first obstruction was a def yellow but the second obstruction looked like the fener player acting.

oh…. what kind of cunt in Moaninho?????
he doesnt manage here so we all read in the press that diving is an English problem NOT seen in Portugal, spain, italy and RVP is one of the four worst culprtits (the others being CR, Torres,drog-pig).
is he mad? RVP doesnt play often enough to be seen as a diver! CUNt!

  65. Charlie

Eboue was very good. He is a better attacking RB than Sagna. However, with two attacking backs,we will need a very strong CM; which we are obviuosly lacking.
Last night was a classic 4-3-3. This formation could be our weapon against the top three.

geoff- agree, im a big fan of JD and for the record i would have picked him over song also. fast, mobile and whats this, 6ft,4! far to tall to be an arsenal cb!!!!!

    A long, long time ago,

    I can still remember,

How the Carling Cup win made them smile,

And they knew this could be their chance,

To finally make that big advance,

And maybe, break the top 4 for a while.

But transfer windows made them shiver,

As Robbie Keane went off to Liver…..

Pool, and Berbs to Man U,

You can’t believe it can you?

Tears of laughter we all cried,

As on Bent they have to rely,

    And Frasier Campbell really tried,

The Day That Tottenham Died !

So my my kiss UEFA goodbye,

    When Comoli sold the Goalie,

    Well it made Levy Cry,

When you play for Spurs you kiss Capello goodbye,

Soon your gonna be a Magpie,

I bet you wish you were a Magpie.

Did your players eat the poisoned food,

To let Arsenal in and Spoil your mood,

If the fansite tells you so,

Do you believe in Chas n Dave,

Can their music save you from an early grave,

And can Dawson teach me how to run real slow,

Well, I knew you were set for a let down,

When the Spaniard signed the Blackburn clown,

    You sacked poor Martin Jol,

And now everyone just laughs out loud,

I have long been laughing at your lack of luck,

    Your delusion means I couldn’t give a …..,

That to the table bottom you are stuck,

    The day the Tottenham died,

    I started singing……..

So my my kiss UEFA goodbye,

    When Comoli sold the goalie,

    Well it made Levy cry,

When you play for Spurs you kiss Capello goodbye,

Soon your gonna be a Magpie,

I bet you wish you were a Magpie

a very, very poor boro, that bgame reminded me odub of our pasting by the spuds in the CC. did you watch teh match? every shot, deflection etc went in mate and playing boro isnt like going to hell! or should that be hull?!

  69. Franchise

Guys a match analysis irrespective of the score line involves reviewing every event that is worth reviewing. The title of Geoff’s post says it all. It was a very convincing unconvincing win. Any manager would be worried with how we defended reason is cos there are seceral teams we challenging against that would have ripped us into pieces. Arsenal can play attacking football we all know that. If we defended better last season we would have won the league that is why i’m worried that Alex Song as a CB option is not just good enough. Guys get over the orgasmic feeling of thrashing Fenerbahce in hell and identify possibilities why we might run out of gas again

  70. VICTOR

Whatever your name is leave Song alone, from your writing you have got something personal against the young man, how can you blame him for both goals, ok he conceded a freekick but how many free kicks were conceded in the game and when the free kick was taken, who did guiza spin off to volley the ball across goal for silvestre to deflect in, your so called superb adebayor who in mine and arsene’s opinion, watch this space would leave arsenal before song. Thank God song was willing to play in defence, but get this right mate, he’s a midfielder who would do a better job than denilson as a holding player. So take off your blinkered anti song glasses and recognise the young man is highly rated by his peers instead of singling out one player from a superb midfield and attacking display to a poor defensive play from the whole defense apart from almunia who saved three certain goals

  71. Evo in Oz

nah im not into blowing wind up other teams why we might run out of gas and the various scenarios of which players are this and that, im loving the team and im keen for each game.

i might be 34 and not as young or as old as some, but i want to win and ill have to take it as it comes!

Bring on West Ham and another win! i love you all and i love the Arse!

  72. BB

I think that on balance, Song and Silvestre were equally woeful .. both too slow
why Djourou gets a contract extension and then no playing time, I would like to know

Eboue, on current form, should be our 1st choice right back..

as for Ade, he was too lazy to track back for the freekick leading to the 1st goal , leaving 2 Fener players free for the header .. unbelievable .. and apart from his own goal, still cant take a defender on or go past one

and finally I still dont see what Denilson brings to our game ..

  73. Pedro

‘our so called superb adebayor who in mine and arsene’s opinion, watch this space would leave arsenal before song’

Victor… you lost me their mate. That is a laughable comment…

In Wengers opinion Ade is worth £80k a week…

  74. chris

Your posts are a bit up and down – I agree with Cionfidentgoner that your idea of booting Denilson for Diaby is very risky defensively
I thought it was interresting that RvP didn’t play and good to see that AW thinks Nasri is the better bet in his correct position in tough away games.
I love him and Cesc but they both still look short of pace and the defence was shocking imo not because of one player playing badly but because there was such a gap between the defence and the midfield (I didn’t like the offside trap thing either although some of you may think this is a throwback to the great back4).
Diaby’s not obviously the solution ‘cos he’s too attacking. Stewart Robson said he could replace Flamini, I think so perhaps I’m wrong.
It was a bit like watching the last 20 minutes of an open cup tie from about the 5th minute and certainly after the second goal. The score really could have been anything (includuing 5-2 to them imo, if Ade had missed 1 on 1 and/or Theo had hit the post) and Almunia was arguably the difference between the teams.
Anyway you can bet there’s a lot of EPL teams thinking we can score against them and we won’t let 5 in (although funnily enough that couuld help in a lot of agmes and maybe instead of three draws you’ll get two wins and a loss – that would have won the league last year, arguably).

  75. fony

agree JD would’ve done better than Song but……that’s not Song’s best position. he is better as a DM. 2 goals in 4 yrs is not bad considering Clichy and i have scored the same amount of goals for arsenal.

  76. rza

we were playing in a “shithole of hate”? not very respectful of our opponents or their club

aside from that, as good as the performance was it wasn’t up there with other other great european performances simply because our defending was terrible, Guiza could get through Song and Silvestre at will

  77. bergkamp

do we ever defend any better?? are you sayin we look more comfortable with kolo in the team like in the first half against evertone pahahahahahahhahaha at least song isnt a centre half an doesnt defend with fear like kolo a proper so called centre half!

  78. VICTOR

somehow i dont think so Mr pedro. it aint a laughing matter watching adebayor on 80k like u said, playing like a donkey most games, honestly apart from the odd goals. what does he bring to our attacking play. Arsene doesnt always know and just because he’s on 80k doesnt mean he wont leave before the more dependable song. as i said earlier mr pedro dont idolise some players and demonise some. I cant even count the number of chances adebayor has missed, last season and this season but i would state facts and state when a players had a good or bad game. Adebayor been poor this season and towards the end of last season spurning chances galore and thats a fact. If you can see where he can improve after been under wenger’s tutelage for 2 years your opinion would be warmly received.
