Ripped Perry Grove’s Exclusive, Ade and RVP caught sitting in a tree + lashings of transfer gossip!

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Good morning Groverholics! How is everyone on this wet and miserable Wednesday morning?

I think I have something of a web exclusive for you this morning!

A first for Le Grove.

I managed to waste an hour of my life last night copying a teletext Perry Groves interview. Taken directly from the T.V using the touch typing skills I developed at secretary school writing football blogs. I had thirty seconds to get down every question, so you can imagine how long it took me, and imagine how pissed I am going to be if its on one of the websites today.

Anyway, here it is courtesy of teletext.

Perry Groves Interview

Which player did you look up to when you were younger?

My favourite player when I was a kid was Tony Currie who used to play for Sheffield United and Leeds. He was the first player who used to do stepovers.

Then David Rocastle made it more popular, and now Ronaldo does about eight in a game! I used to try to copy Currie and nearly fall over!

What do you think of the possible re-emergence of David Dein at Arsenal through Red & White Holdings?

The current board all want what’s best for the Arsenal but they’ve all got the different visions.

David Dein has got Arsenal’s best interests at heart. If there was going to be a takeover I would want somebody like David Dein to be in the mix

Why don’t we keep our young English players?

I don’t care what country, it’s all about excellence. It’s up to the young English players and the English coaches to learn and teach the right habits.

I don’t care if it s the 11 Martians playing if they play fantastic football. Its up to the English players to improve themselves.

You played alongside some great players at Arsenal, who’s your favourite?

The most talented player I played with was Anders limpar. He made the difference when we won the championship in 1991. We only lost one game. He was the difference between us drawing and winning games. He had extra guile and fantasy. We were very, very organised but everybody needs a match winner.

Can Arsenal maintain their challenge for silverware in all four competitions?

I think we’ll be in the top two in the Premier league. Whether we’ve got the experience to win it I don’t know.

I’d fancy us for the Champions league – last year Arsenal were often bullied out of games, though they are stronger now. But in the Champions League most teams want to play pure football.

What is the greatest achievement in your career?

The greatest achievement for me was actually playing for Arsenal because my family goes back to the 1950’s with Arsenal.

My uncle, Vic Groves, was Arsenals captain. So all my family are steeped in Arsenal tradition. For me to play for Arsenal was like another player playing for England.

Of the Arsenal sides from recent years, which Gunner would you have liked to play alongside most?

Can I pick two? I would love to have played up front with Vieira and Petit in centre-midfield. I used to watch those two both totally dominate games.

As a forward it means you’re going to get more chances and more of the ball. The service would have been awesome

How did you feel coming off the subs bench to set up Charlie Nicholas for the winning goal in the 1987 Littlewoods Cup Final?

It was surreal – at the start of the season I was playing for the Colchester in division 4. By the end I was playing at Wembley in front of 92,000.

To top it by winning it, and having a part in setting up the win, was more than I could have imagined.

Who was the funniest man in the dressing room?

Me! Me and Merse were the ones who used to goon about all the time. You always need people like that.

It was silly schoolboy things like cutting people’s socks up and tying the ends of their trousers together, putting deep heat in their pants. It just keeps things ticking along.

Did you stand on your tiptoes?

All the time! That’s a good spot! I was 5ft 9 ¾ inches. I thought if I stood on tiptoes it would make me look 5ft 11in. If managers want you, they look at your stats and think “he’s quite big”.

I’ve heard it says I’m 5ft 11in on my Wikipedia site, so I’ve managed to put that urban myth around!

In Arsenal news, Adebayor hails his partnership with RVP, telling Sky Sports his partnership is perfect with RVP. Most Gooners don’t see the partnership in quite the same light as Ade, but they are the most deadly strike force in the Prem this season, so who are we to argue?

Sportingo and Libelfootball.com link us with Huntelaar, doubtful! The Sun sees us linked with Robert Green again for £6million.

Vital football have an article on a home sick Thierry. Martin Samuels has an interesting article on takeover talk. The Flamster spoke to Setanta about his hopes for the weekend, he deserves a starting spot if form is anything to go by.

And that’s about as much as I can muster up for you today!

Nice blog so early in the morning Pedro!

Interesting that Grovesy said Anders Limpar could turn a game and how strong they were everywhere else, that’s my point, a good strong center back (like Richards who apparently hasn’t signed a new contract) and a world class winger should do it for us.

    We can only hope!

  2. bottom4tottenham

Not sure about Huntelaar, I think we have him in what we already have and really don’t think we need more forwards.
Can’t see where Green would fit in, unless Almunia goes, but why would West Ham sell him?

Flamini deserves his chance but with him, Sagna and Diarra all in the side they risk injuries.

    I would recall Djourou.

Not sure I agree with Dein running the club either.

Thierry eat your heart out, you chose to go, I told you you wouldn’t like not being head boy but being upstaged by a butt ugly Argie is better than I hoped for.

As for saying goodbye, you made that call not the fans.

If he thought for one minute the kids would be challenging, he would never have left.

    Great judgment call that.

    Good point Anon!

Ade and RVP are dinamyte, and those muppets on the BBC don’t think they work well together.

They also said we’d finish 5th, I think we’d finish 5th if we didn’t play another game all season.

Kidding, but you get my point, we are not only playing pretty football, we are playing effective football and the Fulham, Spurs and Sunderland games show how this team hates to lose, no standing there sulking with hands on hips this term.

And no slowly walking back from the 6 yard box and being caught offside anymore.

Look at Flamini when Sunderland scored, ran back to the center circle, what a fighter!

  5. Mick

An interesting read, why are you not on the Newsnow feeds?

Perry Groves is an absolute Arsenal Legend, he talks a lot of sense too.

    Good luck with the blog

  6. geoff

Hi Mick good point, we’ve been trying for 2 months now and nothing so far, but the more people like you good selves blog on our site the more chance we’ll have of being noticed by the feeds, thanks for your support!

  7. The Prophet

The article about Thierry sums up what was wrong with him. The king is dead long live King Fabrigas, Yes we loved you but you are gone what do you think we are going to do if you turn up at the grove. Wait until you are retired and the memories will be much better and you will be cheered like Ian Wright (though he is starting piss me off).

Just read the story of Highbury book and there was some good stuff about Limpar shame Graham was such a tosser in the end as it appear Anders really loved and still loves the club. Perry Groves is just the DB what a guy and great attitude.

Must take a lot of effort to copy all that from teletext I hate to think it would effect your day job!!!!!

  8. grovedigger

Interesting to see that Kaka would prefer us or the Mancs if he ever decided to move from Milan.

If we had him next season he’d be 26, so we’d be looking at having him a maximum of 4 years, given that at 30 Wenger generally outs them.

So for what he would cost us, I can’t see that ever happening.

So if you look at what Wenger is likely to spend, I can’t see him ever using his transfer budget.

Especially with all the young ‘uns we have coming through.

  9. Gunnersaurus

Grovedigger, I can’t see us signing a player as huge as Kaka either. It would be unthinkable, I don’t even know where we’d slot him in?

I think the Italian league flatters players anyway. Look at Sheva, Veron and Maccarone.

Good blog, I think inside arsenal ripped you off with you Jabba.

  10. grovedigger

Think you’re right about Jabba Gunnersaurus!

I just read the ManCity blog with Richards stating that he never wants to leave them and he’s on the verge of signing a new contract, so that’s a major disappointment.

We still need a center back though.

Just not one from the Italian league!

  11. Bud

Perry you know is a regular visitor to the Infamous Block 55 on his match speaker days !

And he bought a Burgandy Audi (classy !!!!) off my Mum during his Arsenal prime…. he part ex’d it and left us with his White Astra GTE…… It was fucked though and was eventually sold to a Yid and I believe the Cam belt snapped and the engine siezed within the week…. If Perry were to read this site… oh the pleasure……. anyway, why I told you that I am not sure, but it beat going bla bla bla, as I am in a shocker of a mood today and couldn’t think of anything else to write, and everone loves a Perry story and everyone loves it when a Yid gets screwed.

May write again later if my mood picks up !

  12. Bud

You got a good mention on todays ARSEBLOG I see… top banana Pedro, keep up the good work !!!

Today a new young and still fairly unknown Blog site, tomorrow, WORLD DOMINATION !!!!!!!

  13. James

Ive just read this…its from the Man City website, its what Micah Richards said about the Arsenal rumour

“It’s ridiculous. This was in a magazine I spoke to once, a long time ago, it’s very old stuff.

“That came from a silly question like; ‘I’ve heard you’re an Arsenal fan, would you like to play for them?’

“I’ve said when I was younger that I’d like to play for Arsenal – one day – and that was it. Now they’re making a big thing about it.

“I’m just about to sign a new Manchester City contract and last week I said hopefully I’ll be captain one day

  14. Pedro

He didn’t deny that he wanted to play for us though, he merely said that they were old quotes!

    There is still hope yet!

  15. Bud

rumour has it, £10million, Bendtner & Jens with Richards coming the other other way…… well not really, but a rumour has to start somewhere to be a rumour !!!
