Arsenal circling but no catch | Powerhouse midfielder a big solve?

by & filed under News Review.

Naby-Keita

Well, one thing is for sure, Arsenal aren’t messing around this summer.

They know what they want and it’s French, French, French.

The Times reported we’re looking good for Thomas Lemar of Monaco. I think it’s a very good signing, 14 goals and 14 assists is pretty mean going for a 21 year old. He has a great frame, he has pace, great first time touch / pass, promising vision, and he’s very strong. He also had a poster of Samir Nasri in his room as a kid, which I can forgive.

Then there’s the striker story. We’re in for Kylian M’Bappe. I think this is totally true, and it’s a very weird throw of the dice, but exciting all the same. I don’t think we’ll sign him, but look, Arsenal are a big club and Arsene is a big manager for French players who play for Monaco.

Seems like it’ll rest on whether the young Frenchman fancies all the first team action at Arsenal, or whether he fancies moving to play under Zidane at Madrid. Seems like a no-brainer for me, Champions League is overrated anyway.

The whole ‘GO BIG ARSENE’ is absurd to me. Arsenal finally dropping mega money when we’re out of the Champions League and a mile off being title contenders. This all feels a little bit like Theresa May telling disabled people they can’t have benefits, then dropping £1b to keep her job when the DUP come asking. Where was this ambition last summer when we had a platform of 2nd to build from? Where was it the year before when we added just one player? This cash mountain didn’t just appear. It’s been building steadily for years.

The reality is we’re likely going to end up with Lacazette and Lemar. For me, the Kante of this summer is Naby Keita. He powerhoused RB Leipzig to 2nd in the Bundesliga.

He’s basically everything you’d want from Chamberlain. Strong tackler, great range of passing, can score goals, and he breaks the lines with his pace. Would look very sexy next to Ramsey and Xhaka. £80m is a cool bit of business, but if landed him with Lacazette and Lemar… you’ve given the team a boost in my opinion. My gut says Klopp is looking at £80m for a player who is all but there (Naby), or Chamberlain who’d cost him less than half of that… and could prove to be a gem if coached right. You really can’t argue with Liverpool’s game plan this summer, it’s very exciting.

Back to Arsenal, you’d have to sign Keita, Lemar and Lacazette… then keep Ozil or Sanchez to genuinely call the summer progress. The club might argue that’s not possible with £200m outlay, but as we’ve highlighted with some basic maths, there’s a huge amount of dross we could move on for a very good price.

I’m concerned we’re keeping Giroud on the books for another year. I’m concerned the only players we seem to be losing are those we want to keep. I wonder why the club isn’t moving mountains to shift on players who are paid too much. Cut them a deal on their contracts and ship them on if they won’t go. Remove those who are here because they earn too much and reset the culture.

This should be the summer of the machete. I’m watching other clubs make bold move. I’m watching us make moves that don’t seem likely, or don’t feel like they’re addressing fundamental flaws we have in the squad. My fear is we just end up with a young, less experienced version of what we had this season. That’s not progress.

Anyway, we’re recording The AO this evening.

Seems I have a knack for posting on the old thread just as the new one goes up…

    Repost:

    Marko
First of all, shut the fuck up with your “save face” bollocks. I don’t work for Arsenal, I’m simply stating my own view that not one of our players is irreplaceable.so wind your fucking neck in with that patter.

Two… read and understand what’s written. Left side heavy in terms of talent, not players who play there idiot.

Alexis – Giroud – Theo Vs. Lemar – Lacazette – Mahrez

The Alexis trio offers the majority of ability on the left, the second option varies ability and talent which Luke make us a much better attack as a whole. Talk about agendas when you’re recalling replacements from 6/7 years ago…

Arsenal have targeted a different profile of player the last two seasons, and with the fallout from this past season it’s clear we’re not messing about with the talents we’re targeting this summer. Best left back in the bundesliga, best goal scorer in France the past 3 seasons, best talent in world football. All noise of course until signed, but the outlook is much different to previous seasons and to deny that would be wilful ignorance. Not that I doubt your ability there.

You keep acting like Alexis is fucking godly though and that we’re doomed without him. Pretty laughable stuff

  2. Champagne charlie

What are the bold moves other clubs are making? Seen that line a few times and can’t see who it refers to…

There’s been little business done at present, just rumour (of which we’ve had plenty of)

  3. Crusaderrabbit

We wont get Mbappe.. but I would take

Lemar + Lacazette (if Sanchez stays)
Lemar + Lacazette + Keita (or another powerhouse midfielder) if Sanchez leaves

If we’re sticking with 3 at the back you need to have a lot of flexibility and dynamis in your front three. Adding L+L would bring that as long as we don’t lose anyone (Giroud/Theo aside)

My concern is even if we go all out for Mbappe, get him and no one else, and Sanchez leaves we’re actually worse off

  4. Tomtom

We won’t be signing Mbappe or Lamar as this would place to much pressure on Wenger to win the league, especially with no champions league distraction.
Wenger will be happy with a low key summer and maybe bring in Laccette

  5. Tomtom

Lacazette signing alone will keep Wenger happy and maybe sneak into 4th place next season.
Wenger would hate the pressure of signing Mbappe and Lamar and actually be held accountable for not performing.
He is happy to keep things steady without raising expectations

  6. freddylekgunner

If it’s true that West Ham want Giroud and Walnuts for 50m, we should be biting their hands off already. That’s almost the fee of Lacazette.

  7. Sky

    Sanchez——-Lacazette/Mbappe
    Ozil
    Kolasinac——–Xhaka——Keita——–Oxalade
    Monreal——-Kolcieny ——Mustafi
    Cech

Bench/squad players: Lemar, Giroud, Welbeck, Ramsey, Holding,

  8. Marko

it’s clear we’re not messing about with the talents we’re targeting this summer.

What is clear? Have we signed any of the players we’re linked to? So what’s clear then? I tell you who’s not messing around this summer City, Chelsea, United, Juve they’re not messing around. Liverpool and Everton. You know why? Cause they’re actually signing the players they’re linked to. Lacsazette aside we’re quiet and even the Lacazette transfer is likely to drag on cause we’re fucking awful at signing players

  9. Crusaderrabbit

Lacazette will not be a replacement for Giroud, he will be a replacement for Sanchez.

If it were me, and Sanchez wants to go – I would sell Sanchez and Theo, buy Lemar, Lacazette and Mahrez and a central midfielder. In that set up would actually keep Giroud as a second string/plan B – much as I dislike him as a player he fulfills a function/role for us its hard to replace reliably and efficiently.

For your front three you can then pick from Lacazette, Lemar, Mahrez, Ozil, Giroud, Wellbeck, Iwobi (though would loan him out), Perez – that’s a lot of dynamism and options with a reasonable outlay on new players. It would also sell a lot of tickets and shirts

In midfield I’d sell Coquelin and get in a new midfielder, keep Ox. Then you’re done

  10. Marko

You keep acting like Alexis is fucking godly though and that we’re doomed without him. Pretty laughable stuff

We finished 5th with a player who scored 30 goals how do you think we’ll fair when we sell that 30 goal player? But yeah laughable stuff

  11. Marko

What are the bold moves other clubs are making? Seen that line a few times and can’t see who it refers to…

Bernardo Silva, Lindelof, Salah. Everton have spent 50+ million.

There’s been little business done at present, just rumour (of which we’ve had plenty of)

Only difference is other clubs are likely to sign their rumoured signings history would suggest we won’t. Chelsea are likely to sign Bakayoko and Sandro and united are likely to get Morata. We’re not likely to get Mbappe but yeah sure we’ll get Lacazette eventually

  12. Zaco

“You keep acting like Alexis is fucking godly though and that we’re doomed without him. Pretty laughable stuff

We finished 5th with a player who scored 30 goals how do you think we’ll fair when we sell that 30 goal player? But yeah laughable stuff”

with that same player we finished 5th which was our worst finish in the past 20 years and in the last 17 years before he joined, who said we won’t do better if we buy the right players when/if he leaves?
yes Alexis is world class and a very important player but that is not to say we are doomed if he leaves.

  13. Uwot?

In an ideal world world would have 1)bap boy 2)Nobby kaita/email forsberg& 3)dick van dyke. But of course none of these will happen naturally.

  14. Do one gambon

At this point I’d sell Walcott for a happy meal.

His wages and lack of all round game is not gonna happen.
Let him go super cheap to offset the wages.

Happy meal must come with fries though. If its carrot sticks the deals off.

  15. Jamie

Henry Onyekuru in his way to Everton for 7m.

Would be the funniest shit if he turned out to be a baller. Unlikely, but hilarious. And another one to add to Wenger’s ‘I almost signed him’ list.

  16. jwl

Most of news in western world is fake, TR7.

I am middle aged and it is astonishing how much job of reporter or news reader has changed in past couple of decades. Politicians, news people and bureaucrats all work together in way that did not happen before.

  17. China

Zaco on the most basic of levels, improving on sanchez means having someone contribute at least a similar numbers of goals/assists

How many wingers in the world have matched his numbers in the last two years in a serious league?

Answers on the back of a postage stamp…

If we sell sanchez we’d need two great wingers to replace him. You’re incredibly optimistic if you think that’s gonna happen

  18. China

Also Pedro not sure how you can humour mbappe to Arsenal rumours. Yeah we’re going hard for Ronaldo and Messi as well I gather

  19. Ishola70

In response to Samir’s post in the previous thread I am not insinuating that the Lacazette deal is off because of the utterings of Aulas.

He has contradicted himself on this one.

His most latest speech on Lacazette though is that Lyon have had no specific offers regarding the player. It’s all over the French press.

Just merely updating people on the latest regarding Lacazette that’s all.

Aulas is always a pain to deal with and it seems he is even more so when Arsenal are involved. He seemed to have no dramas when Lacazette was going to sign with Atletico Madrid but now Arsenal are involved he reverts to type and starts getting tricky. I think he reserves this behaviour especially for Arsene Wenger.

  20. Cesc Appeal

I am surprised that no news on Ozil has come out yet, get the feeling out there that not many in the fan base are overly fussed about keeping him, but I would have thought he was nailed on to stay.

Unless of course it is this wage increase thing and we are waiting for Sanchez and some others to go?

  21. Dissenter

I’ve never understood why Giroud gets all the exaggerated flak here while the likes of Welbeck are celebrated for “helping the team play better”.

  22. Do one gambon

Welbeck is liked because he runs his balls off game after game.
Sometimes you need a player like that, not every player has to walk into a world XI.

Perry groves and ray parlour were pretty poor technically compared to those around them but they did a job.

Nothing wrong with keeping welbeck and giroud…. As long as we sign a genuine top striker in addition to them.

  23. Marc

Just think all this interest is bollocks – we’re in for these players but will faff about all summer not get them / get gazumped on prices lose Sanchez, not early on so we can sort out a replacement but a couple of days before the season starts and then do the usual piss poor panic buys when the fans go mental.

  24. Cesc Appeal

    Marc

Yeah, you want to believe it is all quiet because we are working away on some big deals in the knowledge that we are losing Sanchez. Almost like we can play our hand all at once to the media and the fans then.

But then there is the realist part of you that has witnessed our transfer approach for the past decade or more and just think, shitshow incoming.

I still do think that if his fitness permits Wenger wants Wilshere in the starting line up as well. Said to Carts yesterday that I think in this new shape Wenger might be thinking of Xhaka and Ramsey deeper with Ozil and Wilshere in the attacking midfield in that 3-4-2-1, basically being the two there.

  25. Redtruth

    Marc
“Just think all this interest is bollocks – we’re in for these players but will faff about all summer not get them / get gazumped on prices lose Sanchez, not early on so we can sort out a replacement but a couple of days before the season starts and then do the usual piss poor panic buys when the fans go mental.”

Yet you’ll still turn up for games…lol lol lol

  26. Bamford10

It’s not really even that he runs “his ass off,” though he does.

It’s more down to the fact that, unlike Giroud, Welbeck can actually run.

Unlike Giroud, he can also play wide, which makes him versatile.

And unlike Walcott, Welbeck can dribble a little.

All of which is a far cry from saying Welbeck is a good player, but he has his uses.

Why certain people continue to bring him up here is a little perplexing.

  27. Bamford10

As for the report above that Aulas says there have been no offers for L, hasn’t he already been quoted as saying they had received a “nice” offer from Arsenal?

  28. Marko

Said to Carts yesterday that I think in this new shape Wenger might be thinking of Xhaka and Ramsey deeper with Ozil and Wilshere in the attacking midfield in that 3-4-2-1, basically being the two there.

So Wilshere would be replacing Sanchez? Not even Wenger would be that stupid.

  29. Cesc Appeal

    Marko

You and I both know that is not true.

Lacazette would replace Sanchez at ST. Wenger has a massive hard on for Wilshere and Ramsey, and we all know he has always wanted to find a way to make them work together.

Like I said to Carts he may look at Eriksen and Alli at Spurs who play that same role in front of Wanyama and Dembele and be thinking, why not? Wenger is the great copier.

  30. Mark

If the Onyrehmu move to Everyone is true, I think it’s another opportunity missed, especially at that price, & wanted to come.
I felt he was worth a punt. Especially when you have Theo who is unable to dribble past a player or his shadow. I can see it now in 2 years he’ll be going for big money.

I said the same about V Van Dyke when he was available from Celtic for about£10 mil . It’s like AW is blind to potential these days or is there another reason?

I mean Sanogo never looked any good yet , Wenger was all over him like a fox over a chocolate croissant! But Dybala , no thanks …

I just don’t know what he sees or if it’s their personalities???

It will be another I nearly signed……Zzzz

  31. TitsMcGee

The reality is we’re likely going to end up with Lacazette and Lemar.”

    Pretty underwhelming.

The French Theo and a nice youngster(that unfortunately doesn’t move us up or down really).

    Another Par of a summer.

  32. Cesc Appeal

United linked with Nainggolan even though they are close to a deal with Matic. Previous links to Fabinho as well make you think Mourinho is going hard to beef up that midfield, make it more defensive and combative and give Pogba freedom in the middle of the field.

Interested to see who gets the chop at United, Perisic seems as if he will drop at some point and they are strongly linked with a ST, so a fair few must be going. Smalling or Jones look certain to be on the way out, but then is Martial really for the chop?

  33. wenker-wanger

Big “up” to my bro who has not renewed his season ticket. The caller asked why and my bro let rip. My son who used to share it with him also jacked at the end of last season.
The ticket will of course be snapped up, so kroenke won’t feel a thing.
Such is arsenal 2017, a club stacked full of fans eager to support it. Wankers like Wenger can FCK up season after season but the massive fanbase just covers up his appalling performance by voting with their feet and filling the spare places.

  34. TR7

    RR

I don’t agree with Arseblog’s assessment on our defense under back 3. In the first 2-3 games we were trying to adjust ourselves to the new system, soaking in pressure from the opposition leading to more shots. Even otherwise,in back 3 our defenders back themselves to deal with most scenarios due to extra protection. So, I don’t agree with the proposition that our defense didn’t improve. It was very clear to see for everyone we looked far more comfortable defensively. We were leaking goals left, right and center before we changed our system. Ask Koss, Mertersacker or any other defender- all of them admitted they found the new system more comfortable. Stats and that too over a sample of 10-11 matches means nothing really.

  35. Cesc Appeal

You do have to say though that the new system was done favours by a lot of the EPL games we deployed it in being against sides already on the beach.

The real test of it will come in the new season which is why we need to make signings to fit it and work hard on tactics and preparation surrounding it. Everyone will have their own opinion on how likely those things are.

  36. Marko

You do have to say though that the new system was done favours by a lot of the EPL games we deployed it in being against sides already on the beach.

Exactly. We haven’t stumbled upon a new formula for success we literally copied what most Italian teams do. And also worth noting that we were still conceding goals with the 3 (actually 5) at the back. I seem to remember Spurs winning 2-0 against it but truly they should of won by 5/6.

  37. TR7

“And also worth noting that we were still conceding goals with the 3 (actually 5) at the back. I seem to remember Spurs winning 2-0 against it but truly they should of won by 5/6″

This isn’t a strong argument against back 3 though. We could have scored 4-5 goals in FA cup final in the first half against a Chelsea team which won the league employing back 3 and literally mastered the system. Of course teams will concede goals under any system but back 3 is definitely better than back 4. It’s no coincidence that the top 2 teams in the league played this system and Wenger sort of saved himself from ultimate ignominy by switching to it.

  38. Champagne charlie

“I tell you who’s not messing around this summer City, Chelsea, United, Juve they’re not messing around. Liverpool and Everton. ”

Chelsea haven’t signed anyone, United have signed one player, Liverpool have signed one player, everyone have signed two players that wouldn’t get near our team.

Arsenal have signed one player. But tell me more about the others not messing about

  39. Marko

Arsenal have signed one player. But tell me more about the others not messing about

Well City have signed Bernardo Silva (brilliant signing) and Ederson and look like signing Walker, Dani Alves and Mendy also rumours of them looking at Auba. United have signed Lindelof and will likely sign Morata and Matic. Chelsea any day now will announce Alex Sandro and Bakayoko. We on the other hand have signed a free LB and are likely to be only legitimately in for Lacazette and also look like losing our best player and most prolific scorer and also amazingly have idiot fans who feel the need to continually stick up for the club for some reason.

Tell us again how this summer is NOT like all the previous summers Charles?

  40. Marc

    Marko

Can’t see City signing Auba and Sanchez – it’d just leave to many players not getting matches even if Aguero left.

  41. Champagne charlie

    Marko

Oh my bad, Kolasinac cost nothing so he’s shit?

Love how you include rumours for others but then discount our rumours, good stuff. Lacazette and Lemar are as likely as anything you’ve mentioned for other clubs.

That would be three top players for areas of concern. Which is unlike previous windows where we leave holes in the squad.

Maybe they like going to Wembley to see The Arsenal win there 9 times in 4 seasons and don’t think they are covering up his “appalling performance”….maybe they enjoy watching the team score 110+ goals last season with “crab football”….will be good to see a new breed of fan coming to games, fans that will support the team that may actually arrive before kick off and stay until the end of the match ………… 10-2 Bayern ( thought I’d get it in now)

  43. R.S.P.C.Arsenal

We could sign whoever but with wenger at the helm what’s the point ,

Club will aimlessly go around the ocean drifting from one storm to another ..

Wenger will drain every last penny from the club .. then leave ….

  44. Marko

Oh my bad, Kolasinac cost nothing so he’s shit?

    Never said that.

Love how you include rumours for others but then discount our rumours, good stuff. Lacazette and Lemar are as likely as anything you’ve mentioned for other clubs.

Yeah but usually rumours associated with our clubs end up as still just rumours whereas you can be pretty confident that United will get Matic and Morata and Chelsea will get Sandro and Bakayoko. Again Charlie why must you feel the need to stick up for the club? And what exactly is so different this summer to previous ones? I’d be interested in your take on that. Unless you start telling me about rumours and that somehow we’ve turned a corner this summer. I’d have to remind you about rumours of us signing Griezmann or Suarez or Reus or Saul or Higuain etc etc.

  45. salparadisenyc

“That would be three top players for areas of concern. Which is unlike previous windows where we leave holes in the squad”

Lets just wait and see whom there replacing before beating the we’ve addressed it drum. If Lacazette/Lemar were in addition to what we currently have then thats pretty good business i’d agree.

  46. salparadisenyc

Loads of smoke around Lacazette but i’m in the camp of why not go for Aubameyang if the money is similar.

  47. Marko

maybe they enjoy watching the team score 110+ goals last season with “crab football”

Sounds like a good season when you say it like that. How many did we concede though?

  48. Wallace

    Marko

“Again Charlie why must you feel the need to stick up for the club?”

    entering some weird territory here…

  49. Bamford10

Marko is right. Other top clubs seem busier than us — despite our finishing fifth — but it is still early.

Given Wenger’s track record, though, there is every reason to be critical and little to no reason to be defending the man.

If we keep Alexis and sign a Lacazette, a quality wide player and a quality CM, I’ll be the first to say we’ve had a decent summer, but until we’ve got evidence that Wenger is serious about improving the team, there is every reason for skepticism.

  50. Bamford10

    From gambon on Twitter—

    “Pre-season starts in 2 weeks:

    – Same Board
    – Same Manager
    – No new coaches
    – No money spent
    – No contract extensions

    Catalyst For what?”

  51. ArseneisaFraud

    Pierre

How about wishing the club actually competed for EPL, CL (when in the competion of course) and the FA Cup all at the same time and not just the FA Cup on it’s own? (That would mean more semi’s and dare I say, more finals to go to (or seeing the game which seals the league title?))

  52. Kc

The team will not improve under Wenger. Plain and simple. Arsenal has no intention of competing at the highest level anymore. They’re a business in it for the money. They’re finished getting mine.

  53. Champagne charlie

    Wallace
Couldn’t agree more. Why would an arsenal fan talk up Arsenal? Yea dunno..

    Marko
I’m stating fact, you’re the one taking that and slicing through it with your skepticisms. I’ve told you what’s different, we’re actively targeting players in positions we need and of serious substance. Not pot shot types we’ve done in the past.

Of the most credible talk this summer you have Lacazette, Lemar, Mbappe, Mahrez. Literally all of them elevate us beyond question, not something you can say of Lucas last season for instance.

Barely any business has been done across the board, and can I point out what rivals do has little bearing on ourselves. Arsenal need to address arsenals shortcomings.

We’ve done that at left back with some smart business, and now there’s every suggestion we’re doing that as far as a striker goes. You crack on with your continued criticisms though, sure that’ll illicit the change you’re after

  54. Carts

    Cesc

The more I think about it, the more I think you prediction of Wenger pulling a Spurs will happen.

His blind faith in players has delved to critical levels now.

Wilshere is a broken man. Loaning him to Bournemouth only compelled things, now he’s injured again with rumours of a new deal pending.

Should’ve cashed in when City came sniffing.

Ox I think has realised that he won’t reach his potential at Arsenal. If Chelsea, City or Liverpool can offer him a way out he should bounce asap

Granted players have to take a portion of responsibility but Wenger track record in the last years 10 years has been dire.

  55. TitsMcGee

Oh my bad, Kolasinac cost nothing so he’s shit?”

Maybe he’s shiiite because he’s shiite?

    Food for thought.

  56. Champagne charlie

    Tits

So eloquent and deep. I’m well aware new signings are nothing until they’ve proven themselves something in the league.

Difference is that application is held for any and all Arsenal related transfers but then conveniently ignored when discussing others. Some consistency is welcome.

Bernardo Silva already heralded as a brilliant signing and Kolasinac disregarded because he’s a freebie. Proof is in the pudding how good they and others are, but the pedigree of those linked to us is encouraging.

  57. JJ

I am confused… we start the article saying that one thing is for certain, arsenal aren’t messing around this summer. Who exactly have we signed? Who have we moved on? One thing is for certain… WE ARE MESSING AROUND. Basically our standard transfer window groundhog nightmare.

  58. post rocky dave

Not messing around would be transfer listing:
    Szczesny
    Ospina or Cech
    Jenkinson
    Gibbs
    Mertesacker
    Gabriel or Chambers
    Debuchy
    Wilshere
    Walcott
    Campbell
    Sanogo
    Akpom
    Welbeck
+ Elneny or Coquelin, Zelalem, Adelaide and Martinez too.

Until they (and Le Dictator) go, we won’t free up the funds to invest in a title-challenging squad.

  59. Joe

Charlie sees quality in the players we are “linked to” as a sign of progression and and is encouraged.

How many times does he have to fall for the same shit every summer. He really must like banging his head against the wall

We are always linked to all the best players in the world.

Then we sign the chamack’s and sanago’s of the world on a free

Who gives two shits who we are linked too we won’t sign any of them other than lacezzette. Who will keep us properly rooted in 5-8th place

Why would Lemar , if he has any ambition, why would he leave 1/4 finalist, league champions with a great smart manager for wenger and Arsenal.

Other than money, then isn’t he just a mercenary?

  60. Dissenter

This Lyon chairman is a clown of the highest order. Why does he negotiate so much in public. Chelsea sold him a Bertrand Traore with no drama. Why can’t he stop yapping about in public about Lacazette.
Are we fooling around with the negotiations? WTF is going on.
Now he’s saying Lacazette isn’t moving again this window.

  61. Joe

And the whole French players at Monaco link to wenger?

Give me a break. The man got fired from
There And had to fuck off to Japan and has been a failure since most of those players were in barely in 5th grade

He holds no appeal to any player with half a brain. Hence why theo and Ramsey and jack are still here and all
    Top
    Players want to leave

  62. Rambo Ramsey

So many conflicting statements from the guy, can’t make his mind up? Looks like Aulas is a ditherer himself. Add in Wenger too and well, Good luck getting this deal completed!

How does lacezzette make you feel?

I feel signing him and losing Giroud and having wellbeck as #2 is not a step forward at all

I feel our production will actually go down

    1) lacezzette having to get used to the Pl and wenger will have no clue how to play to his strengths

    2) wellbeck could lace Girouds boots when it comes to scoring goals. Especially as a # 2

    3) we are probably losing Sanchez’s goals and no way we replace them, Lemar or not

  64. Rambo Ramsey

Joe,yup, pretty much what I said a couple days back. If Lacazette fails to hit the ground running from the off and all we have is donkey Welbeck as bench option, that’s us royally fucked.

Apparently the fact that Giroud can’t run 50mph is a bigger issue than the fact that Welbeck can’t hit a cow’s arse with a banjo. Don’t ask me how some people come to such conclusion.

  65. Rambo Ramsey

‘Arsenal make £13.1m bid for exciting 17-year-old starlet Pedro Neto from Braga’

See this is exactly the kind of shit that makes me tear my hair in disbelief. We haggle over a few million and forego the chance to sign established players but then throw away multi million pounds for these youngsters.

  66. Wallace

Martial wants out of Utd. I’d love it if we signed him. Massive talent, and now with a point to prove. Him and Lacazette and I’d be far more relaxed about losing Alexis.

  67. Wallace

90-100m for those two, sell Alexis, Giroud, Walcott & Lucas and we’re back in the black with a revamped, younger attack.

  68. N5

Wallace, Jose would pull out every single dirty slippery snake handed trick he could to prevent Martial joining us. Jose would rather he went somewhere else cheaper than joined Arsenal.

  69. Wallace

    N5

It would be a problem, but not insurmountable. Mourinho will only be able to advise the Utd hierarchy, he won’t have final say. And we could maybe lob in some defenders and hard working defensive midfielders to sweeten the deal for him :)

  70. Al

it’s so crucial we get rid of the players who shouldn’t be around the club.

That’s such an important factor and one the club has ignored for many years because if you think about it what’s the atmosphere like around the work place when you have someone who hates/doesn’t want to be there.

  71. Rambo Ramsey

’90-100m for those two, sell Alexis, Giroud, Walcott & Lucas and we’re back in the black with a revamped, younger attack.’

Is this guy for real? You’ll replace 4 attacking players-three of whom score the bulk of our goals-with just two players?

You’ll be left with Lacazette, Martial, Welbeck to play across as front three? A player transitioning to a new league and two United flops, one of whom has averaged about 10 games the last three season.

  72. Rambo Ramsey

Its in the defensive department we need to cut numbers.

Wing/fullbacks- Bellerin, Oxlade, Debuchy, Chambers, Jenkinson, Monreal, Kolasinac, Gibbs.
Centrebacks- Koscielny, Mertesaker, Mustafi, Gabriel, Holding.

Too many players and quite a few of them stealing a living.

“I feel signing lacazette and losing Giroud and having wellbeck as #2 is not a step forward at all”

So basically Joe, you are saying that you rate giroud as the same level as Lacazette so signing him would be pointless

  74. Wallace

    Rambo

Lacazette, Martial & Ozil with Welbeck as backup. I know you’re hot for Giroud, but he isn’t going to settle for a place on the bench when a lot of other teams would happily hand him the starting spot.

  75. Wallace

Debuchy, Jenkinson & Gibbs need to be cut. Would keep all the CBs. Mertesacker sounds like he’s a good pro for Holding & Chambers to learn from.

  76. N5

“So basically Joe, you are saying that you rate giroud as the same level as Lacazette so signing him would be pointless”

I think reading this that Joe rates Giroud higher than Lacazette or it wouldn’t be a back step, just a non movement.

I really like Giroud, I think he gets unfairly ragged on. I would also take Lacazette who is a great goal scorer. I would get rid of Dat Guy and keep the two Frenchman, if that was an option, but I don’t see Giroud playing second fiddle to anyone sadly.

  77. N5

Wallace, Debuchy’s contract still has 2 years on it. I expect he’ll just wait it out and get handsomely paid for doing nothing. He’s not shown any desire to move, even though he’s been interesting a few clubs. I think I read Newcastle were in for him at one point?

  78. T

Got to say that willsheres and welbecks goalscoring and injury records make me Lol.

I would BE interested to hear how anyone would come to a conclusion that they Lake Arsenal better? 😀

  79. wenker-wanger

Pierre, thanks for quoting the 10-2 Bayern slaughter.
My reply therefore has been sorted by your good self.

  80. Joe

    No Pierre

    1) no one knows what lacezzette will
    Do in the pl

    2) I said if it meant losing Giroud as a # 2 and having wellbeck as our back up
Option as a consequence of signing lacezzette , I don’t find it as that big of an improvement. I’d say we would actually go
Down in production especially if we lose Sanchez as well.

Wellbeck should be the first one sold. Donkey

    Wallace

No way Jose sells is matrial. Only way he does and United board do is if they feel
He is another silvestre or wellbeck
