Death spiral about to hit Wenger hard | Arsenal are grief porn | Leverage power play dissected

It’s podcast day today, and I’m hoping you’re going to enjoy this one. We’ve baked in some of the Grover comments, we’ve dissected the important issues about our play, and we’ve analysed the damaging power struggle that we’re currently witnessing at the moment. We also spoke about the fairly new twist in the saga that had the AST announcing there is no contract on the table and that all talks will be discussed at the end of the season.

I had the joy of tuning into Barcelona taking a spanking by Juventus last night. It’s tragic that we’ve allowed a man who was at least interested in joining us sign on for another 3 years with the Italian club. He put on an absolute masterclass last night, watching his side absolutely stump one of the best setups in the world was a sight to behold. What I really enjoyed outside the clever tactics, was watching his team celebrate each successful defence of a Barca attack like they’d scored a goal. Unbelievable grit, determination, and passion to win.

Meanwhile, in London, Theo Walcott says they knew at kickoff Crystal Palace wanted the win more. Those boys have given up on Wenger hard, we’re about the enter the death spiral of games that could see carnage in the ground. Sad times, but this is what happens when someone overstays their welcome in the vicious world of elite sport. At least it now sounds like the board are going to have a word with Stan about their major concerns. Tantalizing, even if we do know how this story ends.

Think I’ll leave the cringeworthy ‘£200m summer warchest’ story, not because it makes sick we’d give any money to a failure… but more because the suggested signings sound like an ok Everton summer. Embarrassing how low even our prospective summer signing ambitions have stooped. Absolute poverty.

Finally, it was sad that we had to miss the Monaco / Dortmund game because of some mindless lunatic… but at least no one was seriously damaged. Fu*k anyone who gets in the way of football. You’ll never win. Gutless cowards.

Anyway… this is about listening to The Arsenal Opinion. Get your earphones in, right now.

Remember to subscribe if you have Android or an Apple, or just follow on Soundcloud. Feedback welcome, as always, thanks for tuning in!

Looking forward to the Walcott v Feilani battle coming up now he is United captain. Will be like the old days with Keane v Vieira imo. Will go off in the tunnel.

  2. Tomtom

    Matthew
Haha Walcott being made captain was like two fingers up from Wenger to the fans.
Surprised he didn’t make Giroud or Sanogo captain

  3. Bamford10

The AST announcement is excellent news. The “No New Contract” protests will continue, the poor results and performances will continue, and there is at least a chance we will see Wenger off. One problem, though, is this: will waiting till the end of the season to make a decision make it impossible for us to replace Wenger with an Allegri? I don’t know.

  4. Red&White4life

    “(((BOOOOOOOMN))))”

You were in Dortmund last night ??
The Fifa still want the game played tonight, what a bunch of morons.

  5. Red&White4life

    “Looks like Wenger is finished.”

Looks like you really underestimate him… and the stupidity and the incompetence of the board of course.

  6. Bamford10

Tim Payton of the AST tweeted out the following two hours ago:

“Arsenal desperately need the catalyst of change to improve football expertise in Board room and a new Director of Football.

But Wenger can’t stay under such change. He is reason it has fallen so far behind. This isn’t overnight decline. Been in making long time.”

  7. Tomtom

Now give me £200,Plus £35m from OX, £25m for Giroud, £5 for Coq, £10m for Ospina, £15m for Lucas, £40m for Ramsey and plenty others that I won’t bother mentioning and now you have £300m.

Give all that money to Wenger in return for his resignation

  8. Bamford10

Tim Payton is also saying that Wenger has simply lied in press conferences:

“That’s what’s on the public record as he told the AST that. Also this is inevitable with Wenger not telling truth in press conferences.”

  9. Leftsidesanch

Towing a more sceptical view, perhaps the board are waiting until season end because the physical backlash i.e protests will be reduced as there’s no games left.

In any event the names we are being linked with are severely underwhelming. That will really stamp home Arsenal are no longer a “top” football club.

  10. Tomtom

Nice seeing Juve turn things around so well in the space of a few years.
Going from relegation to serious contenders to be European champions gives me hope for our club.
Pity we have Wenger holding us back for so long, we will look back on this time and think of what could have been.

  11. Red&White4life

    “Wenger has simply lied”

    WHAAAAAAAAAT ???
HOW DARE YOU!! YOU CAN’T TREAT KJW THIS WAY!!

And know, knell and kiss his feet.

  12. Bamford10

By the way, Wenger really is coming to an absolutely ignominious end, no matter how you look at it. He will leave with his reputation in complete tatters. Not only will his managerial legacy be badly tainted, but his reputation as a man will be an utter shambles.

  13. Red&White4life

“Arsene Wenger is reportedly set to be given a £200m transfer budget at Arsenal.” looooooooooooooooooooool

The art of treating fans like morons.

  14. TitsMcGee

Embarrassing how low even our prospective summer signing ambitions have stooped. Absolute poverty.’

It really is amazing how Arsenal seems to feel that it’s everyone else’s fault.

  15. Bamford10

Dybala was fantastic last night, btw. The torch has been passed. Not to Dybala per se, but clearly Messi has faded a little and new stars are set to shine.

  16. Bamford10

BTW, did anyone notice that the XI that destroyed Barcelona last night included the likes of Mandzukic, Khedira and Cuadrado? Granted they have many other excellent players, but these are players that many here would have turned their nose up at. Just shows what a proper manager can do and what players can do with a proper set up and good instruction.

(Mandzukic was played wide, btw, which is a bit incredible to me.)

  17. Dissenter

Gazidis is a ponce of a CEO
He’s kept publicly quiet even as the reputation of the organization he leads is being dragged in the mud by an employee.
99% of the stories about Arsenal have been very negative from critics or fantastical lies generated from the in-house propaganda department.
I don’t trust Gazidis at all. He’s mismanaged these manager and player contracts VERY BADLY.

  18. Up 4 grabs now

    Afternoon,

Scum, trying to stop the football in Germany yesterday, they’ll never win. You’ll just bring people together, great to see pictures of both sets of fans eating meals and supporting each other.

Didn’t take long for the 200 million war chest stories to start up again.
More bullshit to justify keeping the old fool at our club.
When does season ticket renewal applications get sent out?
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, fool me ten years running, forget it.

  19. Tomtom

    Up for grabs

    Terrible and cowardly attack yesterday.
Unfortunately we might find that this occurs more often over the coming years!

  20. Guns of Hackney

So what if Alegri has signed a 3 year contract…buy it out and offer him more. Done.

I couldn’t watch the game but it was nice to hear that someone, anyone, did to Barca what Wenger hasn’t been able to for 1,000 years.

Question: how the fuck would the AST know if Wenger has or hasn’t got a contract on the table?

  21. Up 4 grabs now

    Tomtom,

I’m surprised nothing has ever happened inside a ground.
Going to the Emirates in the past, security look in your bag but if your wearing something strapped to you with a nice Wenger puffa jacket over it they can’t tell.

Just make sure your well zipped up Arsene seems to have problems with his!
Joking aside unfortunately I think your right it won’t be the last incident we see.

  22. Up 4 grabs now

Did laugh at the daily mail story saying we were going to bring in overmars as our DOF.
If Wenger is kept on, can you imagine having one of your old players giving you orders.
His ego would never allow it.

  23. azed

    “£25m for Giroud”

TomTom please wake up. No one in their freaking mind would pay 25M for a 30 year old Giroud.

  24. Rambo Ramsey

‘Question: how the fuck would the AST know if Wenger has or hasn’t got a contract on the table?’

Because Ivan Gazidis apparantely says so. Its not as if Gazidis has a history of dealing the fans with deceit and sophistry, so why should we not trust him?

Looks like the AST has been hoodwinked much the same way as Pedro has by our amazing CEO.

  25. Guns of Hackney

    RR

Yes, it was rhetorical. That’s the point about everything Arsenal at the moment. The right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing.

BOOM. Puff of smoke and Wenger has signed on for another 3 years. Ta da!!!

  26. Up 4 grabs now

If we get a new manager, please please please.
I wouldn’t be as keen to have the mass clear out that some people suggest.

With a better manage and change of systems some of our so called duds may, and I am saying may get better quite quickly.
Plus some are needed as squad players.

  27. Tomtom

Giroud is dogshit for us but he is a starting French international.
He is probably worth 15 million at best, 25 was a wild exaggeration!

  28. RJM

I thought Curado was outstanding. Up and down, disciplined effective defending and fast incisive countsr attacking. Gives their team such balance.
Yeah, like Conte.. Allegri’s the bollocks. So are.Juve. A united club with a fortress of a home ground. We once had that. The Emirates and Wenger have killed it. I don’t think I’ll ever see it again in my lifetime.
One thing getting rid of Wenger and it will happen eventually. Another getting rid of the man who shares his “values” and will ensure these so called values remain long after he’s gone.
We aren’t a football club, we’re a self sustaining financial imstitution.
Wenger and his like minded boss have destroyed the soul of our club.

  29. Steveyg87

Barca seem to be out of the title race and knocked out in the quarters of the CL, this might actually be an attractive prospect for Wenger to take over, one can dream…

  30. Rambo Ramsey

I’d buy into Gazidis’ statements if he wasn’t simultaneously leaking stories of 200 million transfer warchests.

  31. ArseneisaFraud

If it’s true that there was absolutely silence in the dressing room them this is a clear sign that there is deep malaise within in the team. It must be groundhog day for them to as nothing is modified when it comes to training. They do the same thing over and over again. How can you progress like that? I imagine in other clubs training day changes all the time!! This is how bad a manager AW is!

  32. Dissenter

There’s talk that Oxlade might be the number one target for Liverpool. Klopp fancies him and would have reached out to his father already.
Th summer is going to be devastating with or without Wenger.
This is the last major transfer window before the World Cup of 2018. Players have to consider national team selection to guide their decisions.
We are going to be stripped of the most promising players.

  33. Guns of Hackney

    Stevey

I’d love to see Wenger take on Barca, I really would. I doubt if he would last 5 matches. 3 if there was a big loss.

  34. Guns of Hackney

    Dissenter

Ox is not a promising player. In fact, he’s horseshit. If Liverpool want to take him for £35m…BITE. HAND. OFF.

  35. Rambo Ramsey

Lol can you imagine Wenger coaching Messi, Neymar and Suarez? “Stop, this isn’t right. Shoot less and pass more, I say.”

  36. Up 4 grabs now

    Tomtom,

Wouldn’t say he’s dogshit, he does a job and you get what you pay for, which at the time he cost 10 million.
The two problems for giroud are one he isn’t a top class/World class striker that we have had in the past.
As a back up striker or player from the bench he’s good.
But he’s no Kane, aguerro, Costa or ibrahimovic

The second. Problem is we don’t play with two strikers, or play to giroud strengths.
We don’t play like stoke, leicester or a pulis or fat Sam side pumping corners and crosses continuously into the box.

We can’t cross, we don’t play with wingers, our corners are awful and predictable.
If we changed the way we played in certain games we would get more out of giroud, he still wouldn’t be world class, but would be more useful for us.

  37. Bankz

    Uk

    More like Massimiliano Allegri.

    Red&White4Life

The only place I will be bombing if i could, would be Wenger’s study with him in inside or threaten him to sign a resignation letter before allowing him go.

  38. Guns of Hackney

    On the AST poll.

78% think he should leave. It’s terrifying that 22% think he’s doing okay.

Herein lies Arsenal’s problem. Passive fanbase.

  39. Ishola70

Doesn’t really matter about individual players looking good for other clubs because once they come into a Wenger team they will look ordinary/shit. All down to who is managing them.

When you watch Arsenal lose matches you can’t even say they have been outplayed. It’s the style and philosophy which is dated now which is causing the problems. Wenger still goes for aethestics, he still goes for the old adage now that possession means control, still goes for the you play and concentrate on your game and to hell with theirs, still only really concerned with when Arsenal have the ball. They are still symptoms of Barca-Lite.

Wenger for so many years now has not coached the team to give it the best possible chance to win. He coaches the team to play the way he wants, the way he likes, his own personal preference.

And his way is looking very old and dated now.

  40. Steveyg87

All we need to do this summer. Get rid of Wenger, sell Sanchez coz theres no ways he’s staying. Get a decent man manager in, close up shop and lets see how these guys perform without the human shield that is Wenger. Some accountability would be a welcome change

  41. TitsMcGee

Barca seem to be out of the title race and knocked out in the quarters of the CL, this might actually be an attractive prospect for Wenger to take over, one can dream…’

I hope he was arrogant enough. They’d be throwing pigs heads at him after half a season.

’I hope he was arrogant enough. They’d be throwing pigs heads at him after half a season.”

Wenger is many things, but a fool, he is not. No ways he leaves us for them, even though he has gone on record saying that he will be managing next season regardless of whether it’s at Arsenal.

  43. Up 4 grabs now

    PSG,

Looks more likely destination, no pressure, money to spend.
Wouldn’t last six months in la liga .

  44. Micheal

I have no confidence that Gazidis is capable of picking the right choice of manager – even if Wenger is leaving. His football background is sketchy, his management of Arseneal’ s finances has been poor and he is quite clearly a lapdog for the absentee landlord, Kroenke.

There should be no surprise that Gazidis is piss poor at his job and lacks the balls or incentive to make the changes which are necessary for Arsenal to move forward.

The reason is that Gazidis on the gravy train. Why should he change. He is paid £2.64 million a year – over £50,000 a week. This is more than the chief executives at either Tescos or Sainsburys.

Arsenal, in business terms, is small. Turnover is about £350 m a year. Tesco’s turnover is £54 billion and Sainbsury over £23 bn. Yet Gazidis is paid more than the peopelo who run our two largest supermarket chains.

Why should Gazidis change when the gravvy train is working so well.

I am all for hurling shit at Wenger. But look beyond the pitch. Te real, deep-seated problem at Arsenal is Kroenke the owner and his fat cat lackey Gazidis.

  45. Samir

I think the only hope we have of Wenger leaving is that he disagrees with the backroom changes and a DOF coming in so he refuses to sign.

Remember what he said back in 2013:

“I would not work with a director of football because they buy the players and when it does not work you are guilty for not using them well,”

    Goodbye Wenger!

  46. Batistuta

Been a while on here, had some major health issues, so I’ve literally crossed over to the other side and back and Wenger is still here, amazing

  47. Crusaderrabbit

Based on what AST/Tim Payton are saying its hard to work out exactly what’s going on, but there are probably five possible options given no-ones saying anything

    1) There is a contract, Wenger will sign it, board are happy and just waiting for a better time to do it/announce

    2) There is a contract but with stipulations (DoF etc), Wenger is trying to get these thrown out or strengthen his hand (not working so far so will probably sign it in the end)

    3) The board is not giving Wenger a contract until he has met certain targets or results improve – 4th place trophy or FA cup final – if he fails to make these then he either won’t get a contract or more likely it will be full of stipulations as above.

    4) There is no contract, don’t want Wenger to sign and the board are trying to find the right replacement

    5) There is a contract but Wenger hasn’t decided if he wants to stay

Pretty sure it’s one of options 1-3 tbh, and if so what concerns me is that really the ASTs reassurances that nothing has been signed or there is no contract are not that comforting. Logically its clear that, despite how awful things currently are, they still think there’s a way he can turn it around, otherwise what are they actually waiting for. If you think about it by not announcing he’s leaving that can only mean there is still a huge belief that this club can succeed with him at the helm

Tell that to the AKB . They can suck his dick on the way, as they go down on him singing
    “One Arsehole Wenger “

  49. Red&White4life

“No ways he leaves us for them”

Totally amazed to see that some of you guys believe that great clubs are looking for our “magnificent manager” to be their next coach…

This is one of the reasons he won’t leave, NO other great club want him!!

  50. Follow the money

I think how this is gonna play out is the season is going to end, Wenger is going to delay for as long as he can, hoping people will forget and the good managers get snapped up, leaving Arsenal little choice but to sign him up again. He’s enjoying teasing us right now, to him we are the enemy now that we have turned on him. We are ungrateful peasants who should now down before the Wenger God. I can’t wait to see him go

  51. S Asoa

The AKB if they can still sing “One Arsehole Wenger” inspite of the shitshow , they are capable of any other calisthenics including somersault and sticking into wonkie

It really must be some coping mechanism or something. Like something that prevents them for being realistic or critical of Wenger. Purely mental coping mechanism.

(That or pure idiocy) * Ty* Cough *Ty*

  53. Micheal

Sutton is dead right. The fundamental problem at Arsenal is Kroenke and his fat cat lackey Gazidis. Wenger is well past his sell-by date and what happens on the pitch is all down his failures.

But Kroenke and Gazidis have allowed the situation to develop. Wenger is employee – not the owner.

  54. S Asoa

    Follow the Money
Your assessment seems spot on. Wenger is the most perversely nihilistic crap I seen since Idi Amin .
This same delaying routine he tried until Pep went elsewhere. This was apparent when Allegri who would be an ideal replacement who even Kroenke might ultimately approve off issued a 1 month ultimatum of availability.
This creep Wenger is as money minded pimp as a whore-in-one

  55. Bankz

I’ve been saying for some time now,Wenger only cares about the money.
People who think Wenger has the interest or well being of Arsenal in his heart have got to be the most deluded set from the deluded bunch we have here.

  56. Oh Theo Theo!

Everybody fretting about the next manager – KJW had a good, but not great record in france and japan… For example:-

    Monaco, his teams finished: 1, 3, 3, 2, 3, 9, 17
    Grampus 8: 3, 2.

Then the arse. Nice pattern of not quite being good enough to win titles….

  57. China

A succession deal contract for wenger so to speak would make me fucking sick

The whole point is not because anyone thinks it’s good for the club. It’s literally so that the board don’t have to do anything themselves about replacing him.

Absolute farce. You want him fired but don’t know anything about football so trust him to change the structure of the club and appoint his own replacement

This makes such little logic it hurts my head. This is nothing to do with the challenge of replacing arsene, it’s all about the board trying to appease fans by giving them what they want without having to do any of the dirty work themselves

    CRETINS. CRETINS EVERYWHERE

  58. steve

It’s that time of the year again. “We have a warchest”. Time to renew tickets. And of course Arsenals gullible fans fall for it everytime lolololol.

That’s a KJW’s tradition, ze mental strength prayer!!

AST are shareholders. as a company executive you cannot lie to a shareholder. If you do and it leads to a bad judgement on the part of the shareholder. You are liable and could end up in the clink. Company rules.

If AST say there is no contract on the table, there better be no contract on the table.

  61. tunnygriffboy

Wait until Klopp gets hold of Ox. He’ll be transformed

The club is a shambles everywhere. Not only the Wenger saga but so many of our players being allowed to run their contracts down. For such a huge business the ineptitude in it’s running is staggering.
