Is Arsene Wenger about to drop the mic?

There’s a smell in the air, and I think it’s change. Journalists deeply entrenched in all things Arsenal are raising little white flags all over the internet, leading many of us to assume the curtain is coming down on the great man’s long career in the blue and red zipper jacket of The Arsenal.

I don’t want to jump the gun here, because there’s every chance at 9am Wenger will come out swinging, but something feels very different this time.

Wenger is a sensitive man. He can feel the pressure of the fans who don’t sing his name anymore. He can hear the upset andoverspills of passion. He’ll understand the aggressive tone in the questioning he’s been facing. He will read the negative press. I’d also imagine a man of his intelligence knows that he no longer has what it takes to cut it at the highest level.

Bayern Munich wasn’t just a lesson, it was a decapitation for the crime of accepting the status quo. It was one of the most brutal spankings I can remember over the last few years, and look, we’ve all seen a few. Carlo Ancelotti showed how it was done. He pulled Wenger’s trousers down and whipped his legs with a bamboo cane in front of all his friends.

The ashen-faced Wenger in the post-match press conference had nothing. All the excuses he’s hidden behind over the past decade were exposed as mouldy red herring. He had the transfer budget, he had the wage bill, he had the stadium ticking over and he had a clean run of not losing any of his best players. Yet he still came up short. Exactly what many of us had predicted through the money doping years.

08 the same as 10, the same as 13, the same as 16 the same as last night.

The story is that many of his close aides don’t think he’ll carry on. Apparently, there were heated exchanges in the dressing room after the game, some calling it a revolt. The worst thing about this particular schooling are the videos flying around after of players walking as Bayern pressed on, stomping their feet like they’re school children and shouting at teammates instead of tracking runs. The players are done with Wenger, they saw the noose tightening around his neck and they dropped a performance they knew would hoist him so his toes barely touched the ground.

It’s strange. Everything I’ve been pushing for over the last 9 years looks like it could be coming to a head. Do I feel pleased? Absolutely not. As I always said, I’d love to have been proven wrong. Wenger loves Arsenal as much as I do and you do. If anything, he loves the club too much. He doesn’t deserve to be ducking out under a cloud. He deserves the most beautiful send-off. Open top bus, hundreds of thousands singing his name, a guest appearance from Justin Bieber with Mr Eboue in a tigers outfit singing happy birthday. He should have it all for his incredible service to Arsenal.

However, we have some monster games coming up which based on current form could very well see us put out of the top 4. A prediction I feared at the start of the year. He can’t let that happen, he needs to control the story. He has the chance to switch up the narrative. Don’t make desperate fans wait to know the deal. Don’t selfishly sit on a decision that could impact next season. Do the right thing. Call a press conference, announce it’s over and graciously allow the club to move on.

That achieves three things. Firstly, it brings the fans back onside. If they know he’s going, they have the chance to say goodbye. Secondly, it puts the onus back on the players. They can’t not play for him, because the fans will destroy them. Thirdly, it allows the club to hire a manager early and let the succession take place at a good pace.

Fans need to be positive about what the club can do. Don’t listen to the fear brigade, who have for years pretended this debacle wasn’t going on, now play the ‘I’m the rational voice’ card. Do not allow them to convince you that the club hasn’t given a thought to Wenger going.

There’s no way that’s the case, it’s a stupid thought and I’ve been reliably informed it’s a nonsense concocted by people who haven’t been paying attention. Ivan Gazidis has access to some of the finest footballing minds in the world. There is no way a guy in his position hasn’t been thinking this over for at least 3-4 years. Secondly, understand that the new manager will likely take over a club outside the top 4 without a major trophy in 13 years. That is perfect. The exact thing anyone wants. No pressure, low expectations and a sandbox to play in. No CL is pretty much the perfect kickstarter for a new manager these days.

Of course there are going to be teething problems. There would be at any club. Of course it’s going to be difficult teaching a team that receives zero instruction how to think critically and do things properly. But look, nothing is going to be more painful than being stocking filler in the Champions League. Nothing is going to more embarrassing than watching a man 10 years past his sell by date lose out to Leicester. Nothing is going to be as bland as 2 years under a man who has been failing for 10.

Also worth noting that the club had never moved to a 60,000 seater stadium before The Emirates and got the job done on time and on budget, despite many naysayers saying it wasn’t possible. They ended up delivering one of the smartest moves in football construction history right in the mix of the most cataclysmic recession of all time. Not just that, the stadium became the second most profitable in the world and the club also worked out a way to become property moguls. Did anyone see that coming? No. I didn’t think so.

I reckon they can pick out a decent manager with £8m in hand. I reckon they can look at what the smart clubs do and copy it. I reckon they’ve been laying the groundwork for a better Arsenal for many years.

They’ll clear out the old school deadwood coaches. Priromac, Banfield, Peyton and Colbert will be gone. I reckon they’ll attack our f*cking awful scouting network. I reckon they’ll upgrade all the bits Wenger has been controlling with his iron fist. They might bring in a DoF of sorts who can help set the vision for the club and manage the bullshit politics. I hope they retire the board who sit there hoovering up money for their silence. They should replace them with a blend of business and football smarts.

I really don’t think it’s as complicated as certain sections of the media, who have zero business experience, make out. It’ll be a shock to the system, but there are people out there sending rockets to space and curing disease. This is not a real world problem. Put the challenge in perspective.

So just remember, change is a good thing. This freshener is long overdue. The club will not only survive, it will thrive. It might not bring success right away. It might not bring it the season after. But rest assured, we’ll scale heights like you’ve never seen before and it’s going to be a truly exciting rollercoaster ride of promise.

One thing we must be sure never to forget, Arsene Wenger helped make this all a possibility. For that, I’ll always be grateful.

See you in the comments.

“Part of Wenger’s legacy is beautiful football”

“Beautiful football” lolololol. Endless passing and then getting destroyed. Yeah it’s so entertaining.

  2. GG

    Chi

Go watch last years final. It was not boring

Leicester played more exciting football than us last season

    We are boring and predictable

  3. Leedsgunner

    Joke Friday

TalkSport has a very droll poll on atm.

“POLL – Where will Arsene Wenger be next season?”

    a. Arsenal
    b. Barcelona
    c. PSG
    d. Leyton Orient

Comment of the day from @BigBob 19: THat’s a bit harsh on the “Os” (Leyton Orient) LMAO.

  4. Chigooner

    Steve,

    Wasn’t always like that.

    GG,

I dont disagree with you! It wasn’t always like that though. There are still managers playing tactically astute attacking football. I’d prefer one of them over Diego. Also agree with you re: Wenger loving himself more than club. He already held us over a barrel when he was leaving if we didn’t win FA Cup. He’s going to do the exact same thing again unless he signs new deal instead.

  5. TheBayingMob

You have to admit, Arsenal Fan TV is fucking classic. As an arsenal fan I’m creased up at it so the Chav and Scum cunts must lap that shit up. The DT rant was golden …

  6. Jeff

    Chi,

Trust me he has no love for the club. It is an obsession, a neurosis, an illness. He can’t let go. He won’t let go because he thinks his life will end soon as he leaves Arsenal. I have been saying for a long time that he will not leave and he will DEFINITELY sign that contract. All this wordplay is just his usual way of trolling the fan base – those who can’t see through it fall right in.

  7. Chigooner

    Pedro,

I’m not suggesting he doesn’t love the club. I am suggesting that he’s put his own interests ahead of the club in the past and he’s about to do it again. You’ve pointed out many of these instances yourself. Of course AW loves Arsenal but not as much as he loves the legend of AW.

  8. Spanishdave

Wenger cannot go now in a blaze of glory like Fergeson did, he’s blown it.
A lot of tolerant fans have finally turned and each defeat now will be used against him.
He’s lost the players, for the last few games they have dropped their heads and there’s no fight in them.
As Alan Smith rightly said it’s best he said now he’s going to go at the end of the season and hopefully the players would respond to do the best for his finale.
But being a nacassist it’s never him is it

  9. Leedsgunner

    Pedro

If he really does love the club, why doesn’t he say he’ll go at the end of the season?

Sorry mate, he loves the money and the prestige that the club gives him… not the club or her reputation.

    There’s a world of difference.

If he loved the club like you and I loved the club he would put his hands up, admit his failings and say sorry for all the humiliations in the past decade. He would say sorry for dragging our club’s fine name in the mud.

If he loved the club, he wouldn’t keep making the same mistakes over and over again and blame it on bad luck and accidents.

A person that loves the club doesn’t treat the fans of the said club with such contempt… and blame us for negativity for the fact that he couldn’t win the title last year.

If he loved the club, he would say he’s going tomorrow.

  10. Chigooner

    Jeff,

Just because he can’t let go and still thinks he has what it takes doesn’t mean he doesn’t love Arsenal. It does mean he shouldn’t be the manager of Arsenal though and I’m guessing you’re right about him signing new deal.

  11. jwl

Wenger only loves the club in that he thinks he represents the club and Wenger loves himself. Are supporters part of the club because Wenger has been blaming gooners for his incompetence for few years at least by repeatedly claiming we are not supporting club correctly. Wenger loves himself so much, he would eat himself if he was made of chocolate.

  12. Member berry

Do people seriously think that Wenger is only in the job for the £ and fuck everything else ? Really. I don’t think he can take us forward, I know he can’t take us forward, but to say the man don’t give a fuck is as utterly ridiculous as the majority of posters on here. That dude redruth in particular really needs to get laid or high or something FFS.

  13. jwl

    Leedsgunner

When I saw that Wenger comment about how he would be managing somewhere next season it made me wonder which club would want Wenger if he leaving Arsenal in a few months.

Wenger demands enormous amount of power/influence, biggest pay cheque at club, takes no responsibility for mistakes, no ambition to win trophies … I would be really curious to see who lining up for Wenger’s services if he were to resign from Arsenal at end of this season.

  14. Jeff

    Chi,

I disagree. Does a stalker love his victim? If you call that love, then you have a strange definition of the dynamics of what it means and how it makes people behave.

  15. WestLondonGoon

Hopefully one of Wenger’s Asian friends knows someone who wants to throw some money at him and he can go manage there next year.

I hate that smug look; he really can’t see it can he?

No dressing room incident? Why not? They should have walked off that pitch angry; all of them. But no, he just wants to maintain the illusion that everything in the garden is rosey.

But here they (other managers) all are, lining up to shower him with platitudes but I suppose they all drink from the same trough don’t they? Get sacked: get paid off.

Or are they just laughing at us? ‘Look at senile old Arsene, he’ll probably die by the side of the Emirates pitch’…yeah, strangled by his own zip.

This is ridiculous now. He needs to hear it from us if he can see it for himself. March or April he says, hoping that we will all have forgotten the huiliations of the past few weeks, but no, I think it may finally be seeping through to even the most ardent of Wenger fans, this simply isn’t working anymore. In fact it is actually getting worsse.

He even has his own song ‘Arsene Wenger, we want you to stay’ only it’s not being sung by his own fans; his repeated failure has won him notoriety. Well perhaps we should be singing it ourselves but with a big fat DON’T inserted in the middle? Let him hear it at every game until he makes ‘Arsene’s big announcement’. Who the fuck does he really think he is? Does he think he’s holding us to ransome? Does he think that Arsenal is just going to dissolve once he’s gone? We are not the Dog & Duck 2nd XI, we are The Arsenal, and we were huge in our supporters’ hearts before he was lucky enough to work for our great club, and we will be yet bigger once he has left the payroll.

And this is what it has come to now, we are arguing amongst ourselves aboout what to do and how to do it, yet the man in the middle is copping a deaf ‘un. I never thought he’d be hounded out, not after those early years of success, but he’s become a sitting tenant whilst our value (especially in footballing terms) is decreasing.

I haven’t seen a single arguement on any thread that gives me any reason to be positive for the Arsenal going forward under Wenger. Most pro arguements seem to contain a fair amount of nostalgia, well he’s some news for you, that Wenger has gone. He’s done nothing revolutionary for over a decade now; he’s been overtaken by pretty much every top division manager out there. He doesn’t have a ‘magic hat’ any more, just a ‘difficult zip’.

It’s time to go Arsene, do it magnanimously, do it with pride, but just do it.

  16. Leedsgunner

“Chi, he is the club in his mind. He can’t detach.”

He’s an employee. We’ve paid him handsomely for 20 years. We owe him nothing..

Why do so many Gooners treat this man like his their great uncle that they feel an obligation to?

If he has a problem with coping with reality, that’s his problem. He should not be allowed to hold our club hostage because he can’t cope with the thought of retirement.

  17. jwl

Wenger loves club malarkey reminds me of how some people claim Wenger hates to lose.

Wenger might act like petulant child for a couple of days after a loss but he does not hate losing all that much or else Giroud would not be our main striker while we have over two hundred million quid in bank.

  18. GG

Why do so many Gooners treat this man like his their great uncle that they feel an obligation to?If he has a problem with coping with reality, that’s his problem. He should not be allowed to hold our club hostage because he can’t cope with the thought of retirement.

    Exactly.

Oh to have an owner like roman, Barca and Madrid

  19. Leedsgunner

    Message to the Board

Wake up, grow a collective Pair and Sack Him.

Then pick up the phone and call Favre, Sampoli, Simeone etc.

Time for us to be a football club again interested in winning games and not Arsene’s safety blanket.

  20. Spanishdave

He just cannot accept that it’s over. He has no plans going forward, the game is up.
He will go off to China because he will not be able to see somebody else in his shoes. In his head it’s his club.
Throughout the game he just sat hiding on the bench, if he loved the club he would have been in the technical area shouting at the players.
They see him hiding so they are not motivated to do better.
    The fans deserve better.

  21. Chigooner

    Leeds/jwl

Well said. I don’t understand it. Wenger’s been earning his keep making us forget that we have a bunch of capitalists with zero football experience, desire, or ambition running the club. I have no idea where they will find another Wenger to swallow their shit, even if it is 8.5 per. Certainly not any of the names we are talking about.

  22. R.S.P.C.Arsenal

No top club would take him cos of his dismal record recently

Maybe managing one of the African teams. He could do a job.

But he is beaten egg at top club football level

  23. Chigooner

He is the absolutely the perfect manager for Stan and the board. That’s why they love him. Stan prays to Jesus every night for an Arsene Wenger for every club he owns.

  24. GG

Would love to see him go
To Barca and have him completely destroyed and have a pigs head thrown at him after he loses to Madrid 6-0

  25. David Smith

were wengers careful what you wish for….Arsenal did nothing in Europe before he came…he WILL be working next year aimed at the board?
Maybe Kev Whitcher is correct, and the board havent really offered him anything?

  26. R.S.P.C.Arsenal

    David

What ever happens it will be a hostile ending,
Wenger firing the first shots across the bowels , technically he is holding the club to ransom, give me the new deal,or I will go somewhere an hurt you .

Or sack me an I will cone back an haunt you.

Now he is gone we can become a football club again.

  27. GG

Wonder if there really isn’t an offer on the table.

Or if it’s been pulled for now

And wenger is giving the club an ultimatum

  28. GG

    Perfectly written.

It’s like I’m slowly waking up from a bad dream – more like a nightmare. Without wanting to get too excited, there is now genuine hope that Arsene Wenger will decide to call it quits and leave Arsenal at the end of the season. At this morning’s press conference, Wenger made the unique statement: “No matter what happens, I will manage next season. Is it here or somewhere else?” My first thought was, is that a threat or a promise?

But Arsenal fans need to be careful about how they respond to this statement. It is not conclusive, so this is not the time to empathise, get teary-eyed or celebrate the success of Wenger’s long-distant past. Since he has still not made a definitive statement about his departure, now is the time to force him out the door. Protests need to begin, home and away, between now and the end of the season, irrespective of results.

Don’t make the mistake of feeling sorry for Wenger. His past achievements may warrant respect, but as a human being he deserves only ridicule and derision. Wenger is a distasteful fraud that is more than aware of his own shoddy bungling and has been trying to manipulate the narrative for over a decade. Comments this morning such as “Even if I go, they [Arsenal] will not win every game,” demonstrate his continued refusal to accept culpability. Make no mistake, Wenger still seems to think he is beyond criticism and blames outside forces for everything that he is accountable for.

He’s not gone yet and Wenger will still do everything he possibly can to cling on to power. I read a blog quote yesterday that stated: “If Wenger does not sign a new contract, it will not be because he thinks he cannot do the job any more, it will be because he cannot stand the pressure any longer, which in turn leads to even more pressure from the fans”.

Wenger is an arrogant egomaniac who does not believe he is past his sell by date and never will. He has not had a sudden realisation that he’s a tactical cretin, or that Arsenal were humiliated by a bunch of old men at the Allianz Arena, or that he can no longer inspire or motivate his players – it’s the exhausting clamour from the fans and media that is choking him. The players obviously read it and are affected by it, and now see Wenger for what he is – a deluded charlatan.

It was only a short while ago that Theo Walcott effusively praised Wenger for an Al Pacino-like dressing room speech, yet a few weeks later the lazy clown can be seen standing idle as Alonso jogs past him to score Chelsea’s opener in Arsenal’s 3-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge. That microscopic display of apathy was magnified x 10 at Bayern Munich, and says everything about the eroded bond between the manager and his players.

It’s astonishing that what I wrote SEVEN years ago is as true today as it was then. Commenting on Arsenal’s 2-2 draw at home to Barcelona: “The fact is, after watching last night’s game and despite the undoubted excellence of Barcelona, I have never been more mortified by Wenger’s tactical ineptitude. He sent that team out there utterly naked, reprehensibly clueless as to what to do with regard to team shape, marking, communication, gameplan – anything. It was an abomination.

“Anyone who reads this blog regularly knows what I think; and that’s that Arsenal don’t compete for anything – they just give the illusion of competing by buzzing around the top four every season and taking part in a Champions League they clearly have zero chance of winning.”

Arsenal Football Club is at a crossroads. It needs a new owner, a new CEO, a new board, a new manager, a new assistant manager, new coaching staff and new players. But not everything needs to be changed at once to bring competitiveness back to the club. I still insist that the club’s figurehead, Arsene Wenger, is the primary rotten maggot feeding off the club and mismanaging it into a spiral of never-ending mediocrity.

You can blame Stan Kroenke and Ivan Gazidis all you want, but they’re not the principal reason for Arsenal’s failure to compete for major trophies. Yes Kroenke’s ownership model is derisory and Gazidis is a comatose CEO, but they have supported Wenger fully in terms of finances. The club is not profiting on transfers, quite the reverse – Arsenal have not made a profit in the transfer market in any of the last five seasons. Player expenditure has been £306m, with a £90m rebate on player sales. The wage bill has reason exponentially, and is now virtually on a par with the club’s competitors. So don’t tell me that Kroenke is not supporting the manager financially. The problem with Kroenke is that he is comfortable making a net profit and does not make Wenger accountable for his perpetual failure to compete for major trophies.

But there are definitely problems at the club and the way it is run. Arsenal has long been a playground for protectionist rich old men. Shares cost £17,000 and are infrequently traded on the specialist ISDX market for SMEs. Stone-age Tory merchant banker Sir “Chips” Keswick is a puppet Chairman and the club’s top brass has its fingers in the till. Arsenal is a club where everyone buys each other’s silence and loyalty. This operates right from the top of the food chain to the bottom, from Kroenke pickpocketing £3m from the club coffers to Gazadis awarding himself an eye-watering £2.6m salary.

They pay an incompetent manager £8.3m as gratitude for keeping them prosperous, while further down the food chain, Wenger buys the loyalty of assistant manager Steve Bould – a once respected warrior defender that now sits mute on the bench. Like all corrupt dictators, Wenger throws money at his closest allies to keep them sweet – a lot of his coaching staff have been there since forever. They don’t question him, because he keeps their snouts in the trough. And Wenger has long bought the loyalty of his players, paying wages incommensurate with their talent – a policy that has become utterly self-defeating.

Over the past 10 years, the few players that have a semblance of world-class ability and ambition get bored, fed up and leave. That’s when Wenger gets busy covering his tracks, fervently manipulating the agenda by perpetually absolving himself of all responsibility and blaming other clubs’ wealth and resources for his inability to compete. But now, Arsenal is collapsing under the weight of its own ineptitude. Years of neglect and self-interest is threatening to cost the club its place in the big money league. Arsenal is a one-man team (Alexis Sanchez) who not only fires the bullets, but is the gun itself. When he goes, what’s left behind is abject.

Wenger is on his last legs; don’t let him off the hook. The club desperately needs change and the supporters need and deserve hope – your loyalty has been grossly abused. Seize your chance to put out the rubbish by making Wenger’s departure a reality, even if means not turning up to games. A half-empty stadium sends just as big a message as vociferous protests, although I would fervently encourage both.

  29. TT

LMAO This is price less. Taken from TEAMtalk regarding a Facebook group that intends to hold a protest march to convince Sanchez to leave Arsenal in the summer.

“We Chileans are tired of seeing one of our stars working by himself to make his team get through,” the details of the planned march read.

“We don’t want him to play in Madrid, nor return to Barcelona, the truth is that that we don’t give a damn what team he plays for, only that we want to see him fight along with 10 others to achieve results. Not on his own anymore.”

    And you should have added:

… and the safety blanket of the easy money that is currently coming in. If we actually stepped up to be at the level that we all wish The Arsenal to reach, do you not realise that The Arsenal, and yourselves, will be making so much more money?

  31. Chigooner

Hard to disagree with too much of that. But I do think the players are plenty good enough and another manager would be getting much more out of them. Probably bar the old guard of Theo, Gibbs, etc.

We had a guy in Ox looking amazing in midfield (despite what a shambles the rest of midfield is) and instead of playing him at Bayern we threw him out on the wing where he’s always struggled. We replaced him with a guy who made zero tackles and is just generally far below the standard of an Arsenal player. But that player happens to be someone who Wenger feels like he “unearthed” and therefore will play no matter what.
Players need accountability. There is none.

  32. TitsMcGee

“But it is not like I arrived when Arsenal had already won the European Cup five times – they had never won the European Cup. They played maybe 10 games in the history of the club so you have to take some perspective on some of the demands.

“In the last 20 years in Europe only three clubs have managed to play every year in the Champions League. Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid and nobody else. That means if everything is not perfect, not all is wrong. We have to accept that.”

People were saying yesterday they were feeling sorry for this egotistical SOB?

  33. ArseneisaFraud

Read what GG posted from Arsenaltruth:

In short and sweet it means that the entire club is corrupt from the top to the bottom. Corruption is in the form of their weekly wages. Disgusting.

  34. Redtruth

Wenger’s poor record against the top 7 would expand to at least 15 clubs if he managed Watford so i have no doubt at least 16-17 Premier league managers could do a better job at Arsenal than Wenger.

  35. PieAFC

I want us to do the unthinkable and lose to Sutton so this drama never ends. Ridicule me, hate me, say what you like.

That man, saying he will decide his future in March or April. Yeah we know why, this is not conjecture or rhetoric, thats the perfect month to see if we’ve made the FA cup semi/ final or gained any ground on making the top 4.

    Absolute joke of a man.

  36. GG

    Pie

I hope Sutton. Liverpool and Leicester all do us over.

I can’t wait for the last 4 matches of the season. We won’t win one of them

  37. PieAFC

It’s sad it’s come to this GG.

The hunger, the enjoyment watching Arsenal these days is non-existent, seems more like a chore now.

Change needs to happen or be forced. There is definitely disarray in the Arsenal team, performances suggest this.

  38. Stuart

His chance to have the open-top bus parade and the far well party was after the 2014 Cup Final. He could and should have gone then but he chose vanity and selfishness. He chose this, he chose finishing second behind Leicester, he chose fucking up more transfer windows, he chose another set of thrashing a by Chelsea and Bayern Munich, he chose the same ignorance of tactics and the same fucking 70th minute substitutions. He chose it all and now he must live with the consequences. He chose this out of megalomania and narcissism.

  39. GG

Funny that ugh, naija, Wellbechio, Pierre etc have all disappeared.

Watch them come crawling back after we beat Sutton 2-1

  40. GG

    Dissenter.

The best part of his rant was telling fans like Ty, Wallace and Alex Henry and Wellbechio to fuck off from the club

  41. Alexanderhenry

    I think wenger’s off. It’s over

However, his comments are fair enough. He’s won more trophies than any other arsenal manager and any other PL club would do pretty much anything to secure CL qualification every season.

  42. GG

    Alex.

How’s his winning percentage. 9 in 20 years is a terrible record for a top top club. Give GG 20 years and he would have won more than the 9 wenger won. He had 6 in 8.

Chapman would have won more in 20.

Bertie mee probably would have as well

And you think top clubs care about qualification? Or do they care about competing and winning it? Are we Tottenham in disguise??

No one cares about qualifying when you lose 5-1 every season. Only the money men

Please give me a footballing reason why wenger’s qualification has any bearing alex

  43. Redtruth

Teams fielding weakened sides does not make the FA Cup a premier tournament so you can cross the FA Cup off the list of trophies won, which makes 3 league titles as the only worthwhile trophies Wenger has won with Arsenal.

That makes it well below Graham’s trophy haul of six.

  44. Confidentgoner

It’s a pity it had to come to this. Arsenal fans will have to raise their voices at home and away games. That way, he will not feel secure enough to sign the contract.

He is greedy, incompetent and selfish.

The funny thing is that jornous and pundits still say ” give him respect, he has kept Arsenal up (top 4) for 20 years”. My response is: any other manager could have done that too. The English league was not too tough a league to fall out of top four, if you have the resources of Arsenal and some moderate to good players.

None of these jornous ask him the difficult question. They are part of the corruption, all wanting to preserve assess to the club with the top dog.

The problems with Arsenal are so clear to any average pundit. Why will a guy getting 8m quid yearly fail to address them? Does he hate winning in Europe or winning the EPL? No. He is not competent. Full stop. Take your evidence from his player purchases, his line ups, his tactics, his matchday tactics including sub strategy.

But this is a year he drops out of the top four. We have tougher fixtures than Chelsea and will definitely loose or drop points. I reckon ManU will overtake us to top four. It’s more competitive now, we gave 6-7 clubs gunning for top 4.

But the board will not sack him even if we drop out. The only way he goes is consistent booing, abuse. That way, he will crack…He will walk.

  45. R.S.P.C.Arsenal

  46. Pierre

Hey Joe( gg)……. Just as I said …. It’s time for him to go , and he will…… Hallelujah ….. With Wenger gone we can expect No more negative media reporting …..no more over reaction whenever we draw or lose… ….no more pathetic demonstrations …. No more Arsenal being treated differently by the media to the other teams …….no more biased refereeing towards Arsenal ….. No more Arsenal blowing the league in Feb/March.( because we may not be in a position to blow it) ….no more champions league failure (because we may not even qualify for the next 10 years) …….. No more moaning about Wenger to “spend some money “……. And finally we won’t have to listen to and read about the constant bullshit from the media and le grovellers …….you call yourselves Arsenal supporters but a supporter is supposed to support the club not abuse the club and his manager …. And Joe , you and your type are nothing more than ignorant fools who soon will have no one to obsess about when he has gone………

  47. Confidentgoner

Why we fail against teams is we get tactics so wrong. You wonder if Wenger watches the opponents. Let’s examine the lineup against Bayern.

    Ospina
    Bell Must Kos Gibbs
    Coq Xhaka
    Ozil
    OX. Sanchez Iwobi

The instruction to attack in 2nd half without close marking of the outrunning opponents was terrible. Was their any instructions on how they should go forward?

Coq, is not a good tackler, nor is he a good passer. He has no quality to keep playing for Arsenal. I preferred Niles. Niles would have played well with Xhaka.

While loosing Kos was bad, it must be stressed that we did not have players to stop their wing play and crosses. The first goal from the winger cutting to his left should have been anticipated. Was it right to have your backup right back playing? And not having a good DM would have contributed.

But overall, were the threats anticipated and drilled to the players? Doubt it.

Ozil has been poor for long. What was the point starting him? He will have done better if he came in as a sub. We played that match with -2 players, call it -3, as OX was also played wrongly.

    My lineup would have been

    Ospina
    Bell Must Kos Mon
    Niles Xhaka
    OX
    Wellbeck Sanchez Iwobi

I put Wellbeck on the wing as Bayern’s main game is to play across the midfield and find a winger to cross into the box. Wellbeck has strength and speed. He would have killed that while tormenting their fullback.

I hope he starts playing Niles now, and drops Ozil, whose value may have dropped with the lazy Lassiter faire displays.

  48. GG

    Pierre

Nothing you, Wallace. Alex Henry or the rest of you arsene fc supporters says means anything. No one cares.

You are to blame for the 5-1 loss as much as wenger.

So keep on spewing crap. You’ve been wrong for years about wenger and all the “careful what you wish for ” crap you spew now will be proved wrong

Are you not tired of being wrong?

-anyway. You know where the door is to follow Wenger out the door.

  49. GG

    Pedro

He had won a euro trophy 2 years before wenger arrived.

He would have won more than 9 trophies in 20 years than wenger did

You can deny it all you want. Doesn’t mean it wouldn’t happen.

Wenger’s record of 9 in 20 is not that good. Sorry.

And I’ll stick tommy opinion that GG, chapman and even Bertie mee would have better than 9 in 20 if given the chance

  50. steve

    @Pierre

Yeah let’s keep Wenger for ten more years because a new manager MIGHT not be in the title race in feb/march or MIGHT not qualify for the CL. On the other hand he could actually do better than that but wouldn’t want that to HAPPEN right? Hope you fuck off when Wenger does and support whatever the fuck he decides to do next. Cunts like you represent everything that is wrong with Arsenal today. Like Joe said you are as much at fault as Wenger is being because you pathetic akb cunts support this tedious status quo. You’re a disgrace.

  51. R.S.P.C.Arsenal

    Don’t forget
    Diaby
    Reyes
    Vela
    Alberto Mendez
    Kim k
    Kaka Diawa
    Eman eboue
    Manuel alumania
    Denilison

    List is endless

So think of the shit we have had to put up with before you shed tears for wenger

  52. GG

.. No more moaning about Wenger to “spend some money “

Hahah he did spend money. 90m to
Be exact and still got smashed 5-1. Hahaha
Wenger spent some fucking money and he made us worse. Hahahaha

.no more champions league failure (because we may not even qualify for the next 10 years) …

Or we win it in the next 5. You have no fucking idea. Good thing we were in it this season to get spanked 5-1. AGAIN!!

.no more over reaction whenever we draw or lose

13 seasons of drawing and losing. Hahaha over reaction

.no more biased refereeing towards Arsenal

Like Sanchez’s handball. Kos’s handball. Giroud goals. Non call vs Leicester. Etc etc etc

    Hahahaha

.. No more Arsenal blowing the league in Feb/March.( because we may not be in a position to blow it)

Hahahaha. When have we been in the league in feb/march recently? Wenger has blown it every season for 13. Or we will Win it in the next 2-3 seasons. You have no fucking idea what will happen.

And finally we won’t have to listen to and read about the constant bullshit from the media and le grovellers

Media. Who have all been Blowing wenger and not calling him
On his bullshit. Yeh terrible media. He gets the easier ride ever haha

you call yourselves Arsenal supporters but a supporter is supposed to support the club not abuse the club and his manager

Hahahaha we are way more Arsenal than the like of you Pierre. We care more about Arsenal than you ever will. Wenger is killing Arsenal and you care more about wenger than you do Arsenal. So it’s you that calls yourself an Arsenal supporter and you are nothing of the sort.

  53. steve

20 years. That’s 80 possible titles. 9 out of 80 is fucking appalling. 20 years in and he’s not even at fucking double figures in trophies. Utter joke.

  54. GG

So funny how these so called Arsenal
Supporters think all of a sudden we will become relegation fodder as soon as wenger goes gahaha

He’s the most washed up has been useless manager in the league and they think a new manager with at least 90m
To spend wont be able to achieve what wenger has in the last 13

    Talk about negative fans.

All the new manager has to do is be in the title race in feb and he’s done better than wenger. All
He has to do is get past round of 16 and he’s done better than wenger.

It’s not like the new manager is replacing fergie who left on top
Winning major trophies to his last day

He is replacing wenger who just got beat 5-1 AGAIN. Hasn’t won a league title in 13. Hasn’t competed for a league title in a decade. Never won a CL. Hasn’t competed for one in a decade.

It’s not very big shoes to fill. Clown shoes yes.

Fans like Pierre don’t like to bring up managaers like Conte or ranieri who totally go against their agenda.

    They want Arsenal to fail
Under the new manager so they can say”see what happens without wenger” hahahah

It won’t happen Pierre. We will be better with wenger gone. facT. Because we can’t get much worse than a 5-1 drubbing by Bayern and how pathetic we looked.

We will be much more competitive under the new manager. We will compete for the title and win it within 2-3 and the CL within 5

Because it’s wenger why we haven’t. Only wenger

  55. Rainman

Predictably, the Pro Wenger rabble predict gloom and doom after Wenger.

Won’t see UCL for 10 years? Lol.

Don’t think it’s that bleak. It would take awhile to get rid of all the Wenger effect, his odious loser mentality has permeated the whole club, but I expect us to recover a bit quicker than that. I’m “cautiously optimistic” as Alex Henry would say

  56. Rainman

    GG

Haha, bit over optimistic mate, remember man city, chavs, even manure won’t just sit on their hands while we waltz to the title, but we would at least have a chance to actually compete, which is all I want.

  57. PieAFC

There can be no way Bould, respected defender, no push over on the pitch, was very vocal in the day. Can be so quiet as Wengers number two?

Unless he’s just biding his time. Surely he can see we defend like shit and he’s not allowed to question Wengers training and tactical methods.

Says as much about Bould as it does Wenger tbh.

Stories will come out once the man has gone, in hoping many at board level will follow suit as well. To a a new beginning

  58. Bamford10

Apologies for being a bit of a dick about the United point this AM. My point was simply that United are United and their brand is much more valuable than Arsenal’s — and for a variety of reasons. Gazidis cannot be blamed for their commercials dwarfing ours. Even with the new stadium, it would have required a miracle worker to negotiate deals like United’s, given Arsenal’s mediocre play, mediocre players and mediocre results.

  62. Bamford10

    Joe

Where did you get that piece you pasted in above? That is excellent. Says a number of things we have been saying here for some time. I especially like the paragraph about Wenger having been given plenty of money over the past five years or so:

“You can blame Stan Kroenke and Ivan Gazidis all you want, but they’re not the principal reason for Arsenal’s failure to compete for major trophies. The problem with Kroenke is that he is comfortable making a net profit and does not make Wenger accountable for his perpetual failure to compete for major trophies.”

    Exactly.

  63. Bamford10

I am actually kind of glad Wenger is being so defiant, as I would love to see him try to manage elsewhere and fail miserably. This would make me very happy, as I would love for it to be absolutely crystal clear that he simply does not have what it takes to compete with the best today. He’s had good enough players to do passably with Arsenal over the past ten years, but if he were to take a position at a more middling club, he would get fucking routed. That was close the case against him, which would be nice.

  64. GG

I think you’ll find that Wenger will be remembered for being the only manager to complete an unbeaten season since Preston North End in 1880’s, for two double seasons, a record number of FA cup wins, a record 49 game unbeaten run, a record number of PL consecutive victories and for being the most successful arsenal manager.

  87. Barney75

Seems to be a revisionist view of George Graham on this site. Don’t get me wrong – I love him for the title wining teams but highly debatable he would have won much more if he stayed on. Ferguson had started to get things going at Utd post 91 plus we were getting progressively worse (92-95: 4th, 10th, 4th, 12th…). We had problems scoring goals in those years and were pretty awful to watch. Ok we won a few cups but I was at Wembley for both finals in ’93 and they were poor games to say the least. Copenhagen was the one bright spot. He had his Wenger like moments too..Wrexham, Millwall, Luton and some of the worst players you’ll ever see in an Arsenal shirt (Glenn Helder being the obvious standout). Funnily enough he inherited a couple of decent defenders too. Clearly greedy as well. Wenger needs to go and quickly, but don’t mistake Graham for a genius – he wasn’t. The only manager that would almost certainly have won a hatful more trophies is Chapman.

  88. Dev.gooner

To whoever the fuck this Pierre guy is.
I don’t know you, but from what you say, YOU ARE NOT an arsenal fan.

All this talk about being an arsenal fan only if you visit the emirates everyweek is nonsense and bullshit.

There are only 60000 seats in the emirates and only 3000 away tickets available. Not everyone can get tickets (mostly because tourists like yourself occupy the stadium) or afford the astronomical prices they charge to watch a shit show like the 5-1 mauling the other night. You have money… fine be my guest and piss it away on your We love arsene agenda. There’s nobody to stop you from doing so! I will save myself £200 every week and repay my mortgage 10 years earlier than originally planned.

I proudly put on my arsenal shirt and sit on the couch and watch arsenal play football. And will do so again the day this Miserable Fool leaves my beloved club. Till that day comes, I refuse to spend any money whatsoever on the dross he produces week in week out. I refuse to watch his tactical ineptude, his gross mismanagement of funds. I refuse to contribute to the utter disregard for fans that he and his hierarchy have for us.

Whole heartedly agree with DT. He may be ranting, but that is his passion. Give me the mic and I will say exactly the same thing.

We’ve spent £17m on a stiker this summer. A striker whose not even started 10 premier league games this season. All because, L’Oreal is the best striker in the world! You have a world class goalkeeper in Cech, who’s won trophies and has experience in abundance. Give him a defence to match his abilities. Why the fuck is Gibbs still an arsenal player. And why the fuck was he wearing the captains armband? Alexis has been carrying the team all season, he more worthy of the band than anyone else.

Go Alexis, just leave. Save your career before this mad man willy wonga eats your hamstrings and calf muscles and sends you down the shitter.

For fuck sake, even the dumbest person in football can see wenger is past his sell by date, finished as a top manager. Ancellotti game him a schooling earlier this week, conte did the same two weeks back.

Like someone said above, 20 years in charge and from a minimum possible 80 trophies, he’s won just 9. That is a pathetic record. Fergie’s haul at united looks like Mount Everest compared to wengers puny achievents. Even Leicester Fucking City schooled him on how to win the premier league and they spent less money than he did.

19 years in the champions league, only 1 final and 1 runners up medal to show for. He’s got his arsed whipped by other clubs more than any other manager in the champions league history. For Fuck sake, Roberto Di Matteo only played 6 months in the champions league and won it the first time asking! Even Avram Grant made it to the champions league final and he ain’t no manager!

So please, do me a favour and keep your mouth shut! Like DT said, when wenger goes, do fuck off with him and leave arsenal alone. In Arsene We Trust? No fucking way, We Rust for as long as we have him as our manager.

Get the fuck out Wenger. You died for me the day you sold van Persie to united.

“Get the fuck out Wenger. You died for me the day you sold van Persie to united.”

The irony being that dim-witted akbs still see RVP as a “traitor” — even with the benefit of hindsight — when he (and others) simply had the ability to see the truth.

The truth being Arsenal was no longer “Arsenal”. It was a withered husk of a once-proud club. With its soul gradually having been sucked dry over the past 20 years by Wenger, like the venereal Cronenbergian parasite that he is. He used the precarious position the club was in at the time to extend his influence into all aspects of the club’s affairs.

He likely had noble intentions at the outset, but consciously or not, he eventually realized that he was no longer able to realistically compete. At that point, he began to use his all-encompassing influence to preserve his position and income stream. by buying off the loyalty of all those below him, and using the media and unquestioning fan base to shape his own mythology.

However, you are writing him up to be some angel or cinderella whose ugly sisters won’t let him go to the ball. I don’t care whether he can sack or can’t Wenger I care that he is powerless to do anything, is residing over the status quo, and is there =for just as accountable as the other lot.

He’s insincere and disingenuous in his attempts, you write a long detailed comment rebutting his flimsy arguments and he’ll just ignore the points and come up with a snidey one liner as response.

For a guy who gets so many things wrong, I don’t think I’ve seen him ever admit so. Something he shares with his hero Arsene, I suppose.

You have a better chance of having a sensible debate with Redtruth than one with Wallace.

“No matter what happens I will manage next season. Is it here or somewhere else, that’s absolutely for sure.”

The cunt is staying. And being cocky about it too.

All the perspectives the cunt shared are low level BS any marketing /PR folks spin. It’s also saying you fans are dumb, ignorant peasants. How dare you talking to me like that?

Said before that being much younger than Wenger, i’d play the odds he is mortal… hopefully then I’d see ”new’ Arsenal.

Wenger only leaves the kingdom he Built feet first.

Also not sure the transformation Pedro outlines would actually happen even 60% of it. The club is too corrupted atm…

  95. rollen

Pedro you are wrong about Wenger or AKBs loving the club.
Wenger loves fake image of himself and $$$$$$$$.
    AKBs just first item.
Would be so happy to see them go.

Can anyone name few instances of Wenger putting interest of the club before his own ?

  96. rollen

This Chilean dudes protesting is the new level of Arsenal international embarrassment brought to you by Wenger.
Whole world can see this shit show bur ”real fans” like resident AKB twats cant.

    I think wenger’s off. It’s over

However, his comments are fair enough. He’s won more trophies than any other arsenal manager and any other PL club would do pretty much anything to secure CL qualification every season.

    Why you always lying ?
No other manager was 21 years in the job.

GG – yes Graham could maybe have won a few more cups (he did after all win one for Spurs) but I don’t see him winning the league again especially the way Man Utd were playing and the players they were developing and attracting. We were dysfunctional and on a downward spiral post ’91. Half the team were alcoholics and Graham did spend a fair amount of money, sometimes on very good players, but often on bog-average ones. Chris Kiwomya? John Jensen? These weren’t players to carry the club onto greater honours. Under Graham I’m pretty sure the youth development within the club stalled too. When he got there Adams, Rocastle, Thomas, Merson were all coming through. At the end of his time I don’t recall anyone of that calibre…Morrow, Hillier, Selley were more like the norm. Nevertheless May ’89 was certainly the greatest single Arsenal moment of my life so far and his 90-91 team deserves more attention for what they achieved – we were brilliant that year and Graham successfully adapted to very difficult circumstances (something I don’t think Wenger could have done).

Whichever way you look at it, however you weight up there’s not getting away from it. Only a fan loyal to Arsene more than they are loyal to Arsenal would find words and phrases to the contrary. Wenger has massively underachieved. Massively.

    The Doctor,

I agree with you. I also believe he has already signed the extension if not physically then in his mind at least. He has or he will sign – there’s no doubt about it. He was always going to sign it. All they are doing now is trying to find the right time.

If he wasn’t going to sign, we would have heard by now which other managers have been approached. Who has been asked? The answer is nobody. It is the absence of information that confirms he’s staying.

If Wenger were to leave he would have left in 2006 itself. Sadly the cretin hs no shame and I can’t see him leaving until he is physically unable to do so. I think he will stay here until is 80s.

Thats proof alone why Kroenke is to blame for everything. If he were compotent why would we be suffering under wanker?
