Eisfeld in if he’s fit | Granero, Tevez and Gourcuff potentially available | Arsenal fan infighting must stop

by & filed under News Review.

Thierry pointing the way to the new site...

A lot of debate went on yesterday after I said I was disappointed the crowd booed Arshavin before the game and the players at half time.

Some Suggested the booing motivated the team, some suggested it’s the fans right, some were in agreement that booing doesn’t have a place mid-game. As far as I’m concerned, there’s no right or wrong opinion. It’s easy for me to say I don’t accept the dissent in the ground because I’m privileged enough to be able to dissent to a mass audience every day.

However, some people need to get some serious perspective… we won at the weekend. We qualified. We’re through. Wishing we’d lost and harping on about the potential disgrace of nearly losing is ridiculous. Correlating being anti-booing with being pro-Wenger is equally illogical.

The simple question I have this morning is what is the right answer? Everyone has different views, that’s the same in any crisis, the question is, how do we seriously move towards a point where we’re listened to? Where the infighting stops and the fans move towards a common goal? How do we make Ivan take notice… or more importantly, take action. In fact, is it even Ivan we want to notify of our displeasure, or is it faraway Stan?

What exactly do the fans want? Is it removal of the manager? Is it acknowledgement things have to change or is it simply a bit of value for money?

One thing is for sure, the bickering and arguing online makes it tiresome to be a Gooner at the moment. It’s the same in the ground. Slanging and counter slanging goes on all game at the moment and it makes for a horrible day out. What we need is a united voice to air our grievances. What we need to know is what are the supporter groups doing? The AST have been pretty clear, they won’t discuss the managers position publicly until the end of the season. That doesn’t mean you can’t raise the issue at the next meeting on Monday the 13th Feb.

What are AISA, Red Action and Black Scarf doing? Have you asked them? Are any of them taking a lead that suits your disposition better? Start a debate… Goonerdom is a rabble of infighters at the moment and it’s not healthy and it’s not enjoyable. The fans haven’t been this at odds with the club in my life time… and that’s the fault of one man and his team that let him get away with it.  That doesn’t mean we should abstain from doing something to rectify it. It’s the club we love more than anything and being counter productive because of passion over spill isn’t the way forward.

It’s easy to piss and moan about how right you were, or how much of a fan you are, but if you’re not doing anything proactive, you’re just as bad as the person sitting in the ground in silence. The board don’t care about boos if you’re in the ground! They probably don’t care if you moan online.

Only one thing strikes a chord at our club… money.

So what’s the answer?

Eisfeld…

Apparently we’ve made our first January move. A German 19 year old reserve who is leaving  Dortmund because competition is rife.

Sure he might be amazing, sure we might have nabbed a deal… but if Klopp is half the manager his record suggests, you’d imagine he’d be reticent to let a top drawer player leave for £400k. I might be wrong, but the fact we’re taking a Dortmund reject on at that price when our youth team wage bill probably exceeds their first team equivalent isn’t particularly inspiring. It doesn’t say a lot about our expensively assembled academy does it?

‘The teenager’s development has been hindered by keee problems – he tore his anterior cruciate ligament in 2009 – and he will be put through his paces at the club’s London Colney training ground before signing a long-term contract.’

We have major squad issues and we’re sorting them with kids again. Injury prone kids! It’s almost perverse. It’s like a massive slap in the face for all the fans who know there is £50m in the bank. Maybe he’ll be another Oxo, but we’ll have to wait 6 months to find out. We know a few things for sure, he’s no where near the level of Gotze or Kagawa and there’s a risk he might be a crock. Why take a punt in the most important season of your career?

This feels very Bischoff-esque? Another dodgy transfer no one really probed the club about. Why would we sign the equivalent of a cripple who hadn’t played in years for a season when we’re Arsenal? How much was that deal worth? Who underwrote that? Who questioned the wage efficiency of that disaster?

Wenger does himself no favours, it feels like he’s trying to get the sack sometimes. His obsession with kids is damaging the team’s top 4 prospects. What must the players think?

One thing is for sure, I think if today ends player-less and the season fizzles out into nothingness, we’ll see a change of management in the summer. I still think we’ll make top four though… then Gazidis will have a tough decision because the Americans don’t like empty seats and they know if they serve up another summer like the last, we’ll be looking at a 60% filled stadium.

Robin cleared

I didn’t even see the incident (How Wenger), but apparently the FA have and they’ve cleared him of any wrong doing. Superb… a four game ban would have been awkward. Awkward like introducing your new 19 year old German saviour to the first team dressing room.

Miyachi Off?

Ryo might be off to Bolton today. That would be a lovely move for him, he’s going to be a good player, but it does beg the question, why did Wenger sell him in as a first team player this year? We get to the end of the summer and he tells us we have loads of players, then we get to Feb and realise hardly any of them are ready. Anyway, if he gets his move, good luck… hopefully Owen will work some Jack magic on him.

Transfer countdown!

It’s the final day of a most uneventful transfer window. The most likely signings will be a couple of kids, though don’t be surprised if we ship in a last minute loan deal or a surprise signing.

It won’t be Podolski as he’s injured! However, it might be Gourcuff who was benched at the weekend, or maybe Tevez who Geoff demanded the other day. If West Ham are sniffing around, surely we should be? That Granero chap from Madrid looks a bit handy as well… with starts at a premium maybe he’s someone we’re checking out? No one can tell me there aren’t deals to be had in Europe today… if you’re interested of course.

Farewell!

After 4 and a bit years, we’ll be saying good-bye to this old design and we’ll be moving over to a swanky new home. The new site has been designed to capture the best bits of the old style sheet whilst bringing it forward into the 21st century with a new lick of paint. The mobile site should run on all devices far better than this site and the comments should be as intuitive and easy on the eye as the little beauties you see below.

I’ll miss this site, home to 1600+ posts and a million comments… but the time has come to move. Hopefully you like the new design as much a we do and hopefully we’ve found ourselves a stable server! We’ll probably be switching over later on this afternoon, so do bear with us if you can’t get on… it’s not the site, it’ll be your IP playing catch up.

In the mean time, we’re live on iTunes now… so if you want the Le Grove Podcast on your Apple product, you can find us here!

    Jonas

Thats the sad truth of it.

There are only 2 real explanations for what is happening:

1- Wenger has basically lost the plot. I think this is more than possible if you look at what happened at Monaco, where he developed an obsession with cheap kids and selling good players (Weah).

2- He is more than happy to run the club into mid table in exchange for £7m pa, with the added bonus being he doesnt have to worry about pressure.

If its 1 then you have to feel a bit sorry for him & sack him. If its 2 I wish him a painful death asap.

  2. LeMassiveCoq

That video of our new signing pretty much sums it up really doesn’t it? Some virtually unknown crocked teenager playing in front of about 7 people of a frosty pitch…

Lol, Arsene you truly are a c___

  3. Jonas

There are 2 reasons why a player is worth only 1/2 million quid.

    1) He’s not very good
    2) He’s a crock

Eisfeld seems to tick both boxes

  4. kapslock

lol @ Gazidis saying that City are jealous of us. That is one of the worst comments I’ve ever heard. He’s really starting to fuck me off. I think he’s an awful CEO and completely out of his depth.

I don’t have that much of a problem with this Eisfeld signing, 400k is not much of a risk. The problem lies in the fact that we are desperatly crying out for a winger, CAM & striker yet nothing has been done. I don’t believe all this shit about it being hard in January to sign. If you’ve got the money clubs will want it. You might have to pay a premium but who cares if it means the difference between having CL next season or Thursday nights in. Sort it out.

  5. Big Dave

I don’t want us to be a city, but what i do want is for us to show some fucking ambition in the transfer market, we are sitting on shit loads of money…. for what ?

Fans ripped off watching mediocre players on the pitch paying the highest prices in the EPL

  6. gambon

If any further proof was needed that Wenger is obsessed with trying to claim credit for unearthing unknowns.

    - We all want Gotze, probably the best young AM in the world, a 19 year old from Dortmund.

    - Wenger signs a completely unknown, injury prone…..you guessed it……..19 year old from Dortmund.

  7. SUGA3

    hello all ;)

what a complete muppet Gazidis is, City jealous? so, we are in three comps, are we?

someone conveniently omitting the fact that we have an outside chance of winning just ONE of them and it just so happens that it’s the least prestigious one!

fucking clueless cunt, what did I tell you about his interview a year ago or so? Wenger in a fucking latex mask and a voiceover!

it’s almost unreal, looks like the club’s top brass take joy in testing how low they can go with ripping the piss out of the fans…

  8. Lurch LeRouge

    gadzidis what a cunt.

we’re a feeder club, thanks for coming folks.

Even if that is your policy, as deplorable as it is, grandstanding about making stars rather than buying them is a catastrophic pr blunder of epic proportion.

    Its so fucking disingenuous.

We already have a culture of complacency – its not about now but tomorrow.

We already have a culture of underachieving unfettered by immature ego’s.

We already have a struggling commercial ‘brand’, flat lining with commercial revenue.

but while we’re at it lets consign any mature purchase we’ve just made (or about to make) to the pile of mediocrity by labeling them as such, because remember we only make stars!

  9. Pedro

Gambon, I think he’s lost the plot… the board are just as bad for not taking control of the situation… but there you go, we are where we are.

  10. Bergkamp63

You don’t think they are fattening up the club finacially for a reason do you ?

Stadium worth £500m, net debt would be virtually zero by the end of the season if not already ?

  11. nuudles

_Paul, really? Good riddance, thanks for some spectacular display Arsh but your time has come to go, I think he can still do well in a smaller team in a smaller league where he will be the star.

Had a chat about Arsh yesterday and he made a very good point: why not swap him for Honda? Arsh is still very highly regarded in Russia? It will be for minimal outlay, Honda wants to move and would fit in well with us, Arsh wants to go home. We get a good player and they get a player with incredible talent who could still do very well for them if he finds some form. Everybody wins.

  12. SUGA3

so, that Eisfeld fella is injured?

you just could not make this shit up, he will just rake up the medical bill, get two sub appearances and then will be quietly sold just like Amaury Bischoff P.I. was!

  13. gambon

    Pedro

I dont see anyone on the board that gives a fuck. There was one awesome director called David Dein that lived and breathed Arsenal.

As I seem to remember Alex Flynn saying, he woke up every day working out how he can get Arsenal to the top.

The man was by far the most impressive football director I have ever seen.

Now there are a bunch of guys who detest the fans and dont understand why winning is important.

Ive said this before, but i honestly think we are the most disgustingly run club in world football.

Marseille circa early 90′s have more class than us.

  14. _Paul

Arshavin in talks with anzhi, surely there will be a replacement lined up to allow him to talk, with gervinho away at ACON that would leave OX and Walcott.

  15. nuudles

_Paul, dont you know Eisfeld is Arsh’s replacement (sarcasm).

In all honesty we dont really need a replacement for Arsh. We do need proper backup for RvP and a good creative midfielder who can hit the ground running. Made this point countless times today but Eriksen would be perfect at AM, if we want to be more frugal we should get Granero.

CF I dont know who. If I had the funds I would go for Tevez for all the reasons I listed previously but I can see why those signing the cheques dont want to spend so much on a potential problem. Demba Ba then given that Reus is already snapped up by Dortmund.

  16. Jonas

Wenger and the board are completely out of step with the majority of the fans and have completely misjudged our feelings (or are they blatantly ignoring them).

Management and board are all in this together, otherwise Wenger would have walked a few years ago to keep his reputation intact.

Somethings got to give to break the cycle but I wouldn’t hold your breath for anything soon

  17. SUGA3

    Pedro,

do you see these muppets for what they are now?

if I was Usmanov, I would come, make Stan an offer he can’t refuse and then give the fucking suits a minute before I release the dogs…

  18. Yippee Kai Yay

Ahh yes, sky sports ‘yellow ticker of lies’ and misinformation has begun already.

And now it has the added benefit of twatter idiots adding to it’s miserable existence.

I don’t miss getting sky sports news for free, not one bit.

  19. nuudles

Suga, dont think he is currently injured. He picked up a bad injury in 2009 which could have resulted in him not passing the medical but seeing that he passed the medical I think he is fit currently.

  20. LeMassiveCoq

    @_Paul…

erm who do you think the unknown injured ‘IceField’ teenager is there to replace?

It’s simples…sell Arshavin to Anzhi for ~£10m, buy a teenage crock for £400K, thus £9.6m profit for Stan, IG and AW.

    Good business!

Not really sorry to see AA go though..

  21. Rhyle

Once more transfer deadline day rolls around, once more we’re talking about going out of the door rather than exciting names coming in. Think AW has lost the dressing room…evolve or die and it seems he’s chosen to go the way of the white rhino…

Incidentally…with regards to getting the fans behind the team…remember the clocks in the west and east and the big screens in the corners at Highbury? Whenever we got a corner…you’d get the animated clapping and “come on you reds” flashing up…guaranteed to get a response from the North Bank and the Clock End…or, of course, just buy players that’d improve the team and performances…jus’ saying…

  22. _Paul

nuddles, haha yeah thhats true, I think Granero would be a good move, he was involved in the build up to two of Madrids goals at the weekend and seems like a hard working player.
But I think a winger is needed too as miyaichi is also going out on loan. Shaqiri? A bid of 8m euros was accepted earlier in the window.

  23. Jonas

Would we really get 10 mil for AA??

We might aswell get 10 pence for him as it’s only going to be spent on menu upgrades and gold taps in the directors urinals

  24. gambon

    Haha,

If we sell Arshavin for £10m and sign this Eiscunt for £500k, that would be yet another embarrassment.

That would make £28m profit in the last 6 months.

  25. nuudles

Arsene just said the other day how he “loves” Arsh. Window-dressing or does he want to keep him?

I wouldnt mind one bit if the board goes over his head like they did with Nasri to sanction the sale of Arsh.

With Oxo, Theo, Gerv soon to be back, currently Henry and even Park on the wing I would play all of them over Arsh (not to mention Rosicky & Yossi). They all have more fight, greater desire.

  26. Thomas. it's up for grabs now...

paul @ 11.59… Replacement? You gotta be kidding!

here’s what he said about the OX..

“I would not have expected him to be so mature in September because he still looked like a boy.
“Now suddenly he looks like he can take pressure and that he has the personality to produce under pressure.”

He talks about him for the Euro’s and says we will see in the next 3 months.. So that tells me he intends to play him a lot!

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/16776369.stm

There’s your replacment right there and expect Eisfeld to replace OX in the ‘prospects’ ranks!

  27. _Paul

LeMassiveCoq, but after results and pressure recently with the struggle to get CL, I cant see even wenger letting him go without a replacement. Two wingers is not enough. But we’ll have to see…

  28. Bergkamp63

    Pedro,

You are right about the fans infighting, it does become tedious and actions speak louder than words.

We are all hurting and all have different opinions about which players are not worthy of the shirt but are all united in that the management are largely to blame.

We still have to play Chelsea at home which could narrow the gap but we may well have to fight off Liverpool as well come May.

We are all fearing the worst of no CL football next season but nothing we say or do will alter that fact now.

If that happens, the majority of us may well get what we are wishing for but at what expense ?

    Internal solutions??
    ————————————————————————–
    Wenger on selling arsh:
we have Rosicky who can play there, so also can Benayoun, Diaby, Wilshere

  30. nuudles

gambon, I know Eisfeld is not what we want but if you were in his position would you tell Arsenal: no sorry, dont sign me and put me on vastly improved wages because I am not good enough yet, will maybe never be good enough? My point is slate the ones making the poor decisions all you want but dont rip on Einsfeld yet as he has done nothing to deserve it (yet?).

  31. Rocka

Pedro you are the most influential gooners around. You should state a cause and I am sure you would get enough followers to support you

  32. Yippee Kai Yay

gambon, on the plus side, with liverpool the bookies favourite to walk away with CC, it will mean that 6th place may also become a trophy this season anyway.

  33. nuudles

Yippee, haha, true. I can hear Wenger’s interview: “we are the highest finishing team outside the top 4 who have not won a trophy which I also consider a trophy since we lacked just a little bit”

  34. skandibird

According to ‘Arsenalaction’ on twitter – Arsenal no longer in talks with any players, so no-one coming in, bar this German ‘wonder kid’ I suppose. Do Arsene/Gazidis really enjoy themselves on transfer day by letting the fans down year after year, allowing quality players leave, because they have lost patience with no quality coming in and then not replacing them, we NEED a proper ‘Quality’ forward to cover for RVP, we NEED another defensive midfielder to compete with Song, we NEED we NEED we NEED – everyone else is buying bar Arsenal. What does that tell us fans Pedro/Geoff? (assuming your answer already, but prefer you write it…….)

  35. Maverick

I don’t think we should write off Eisfeld. He isn’t the solution to our current problems but that doesn’t mean he gets all the slack.
Remember the comments on AOC and what he has turned out to be.

  36. Goonerfied85

If Arshavin goes there will be no replacement.

Just money in the bank for Scrooge & co.

Eisfield is the only player we will sign today.

Don’t think there will be some big signing or suprise because there won’t be.

  37. Cloggs

    SUGA 11:59
The Johnnies have been replaced by asian tourists on a pre-match spending spree at the armoury long time ago and vietnamese adverts inside the ground.
It’s called the alienisation internationalisation of the Arsenal brand.

  38. Ricky

    Gambon,

Hillwood reckons dein was a pest & was too greedy for success…..

    Can you believe that?

    Greedy for success.. The irony.

  39. Matt Bowden

    Nice post!

In relation to the question “Only one thing strikes a chord at our club… money.

    So what’s the answer?”

Simple. Don’t go to the games. I’ve refused to this season as I don’t feel its worth the price. I’ve not bought a new kit either.

  40. SUGA3

fucking hell, we really have to bring them down, Scousers did it, not like they are worse off, is it?

    Kroenke + Gazidis or Usmanov + Dein, fuck me, it’s a toughie…

  41. Big Dave

Ever since Gazidis arrived he has been talking like that, look back at his old interviews, might as well just repeat them

  42. Mykelgunner

We should close down the academy because it’s of no use.
What do we need the academy for if we can’t find one creative player better than eisfeld?

  43. LeMassiveCoq

I watched the cup game v Villa at home on ESPN. There were a bunch of AKB knobs coming straight through my surround sound speaker signing ‘Arsene Wenger FC are by far the ….’

Needless to say it nearly went out the fucking window.

  44. albo

Good article on Arshavin from tactics guru Jonathan Wilson:
    http://www.lifesapitch.co.uk/opinions/time-arsenal-and-arshavin-went-their-separate-ways/

One interesting passage for those (like me) who don’t watch much Russian football:

“Arshavin may not be in the Yuran class, but something seems to have happened to cause him to lose focus. The suggestion it’s because he doesn’t like playing on the left seems misleading given he often played in precisely that role for Zenit.”

  45. SUGA3

    albo,

AA was never really a part of the tea ever since that FA Cup semi nonsense when he was benched simply because Wenger wanted to give his useless players (mind you, we would have finished out of the top 4 if it was not for AA) the confidence that we can win games without him…

could not do his sense of belonging any favours, could it?

and we lost that next game against Mancs in embarrassing fashion as well…

look at the goal celebrations in the season after that and onwards, AA looked kind of left out, even if he happened to provide an assist…

  46. SUGA3

bollocks they don’t, plus, if AU is half the businessman he seems to be, he would not go around in circles trying to find a solution, where an obvious one is right under his nose…

do you think Dein would turn down the offer to become the club’s chairman?

  47. IvoryGoonz

    Goonerfield85 @09:43

Fact is you can check on yesterday’s post, there was no Wiki for Thomas Eisfeld page until yesterday.
I suspect someone picked on my comment and went creative on wiki overnight…

  48. kapslock

Louis Saha from Everton to Spurs now looking a done deal. Really intriguing move that. #bbcfootball

    I don’t get Everton…

  49. spartan

listened to your excellent podcast yesterday certainly learned a few things. keep up the good work.. it seems strange that since dein left we have won nothing. all i will say . we wnt usamnov. silent stan has curled up into his shell and ?. im 65 been a gooner all my life . i remember the days when we were a midtable team, but there is no need for us to b struggling , with the money we have stashed away, we are becoming a larfin stock, and to make matters worse spuds playing good football and challenging for the title. aaaargh think im going to puke. SOMEBODY SORT IT OUT BEFORE ITS TOO LATE.

  50. pBlaCk

Eisfeld has completed £600,000 move from Dortmund to Arsenal. .

“I believe Wenger is continuining his policy of the ‘French way’ which as we know nowadays is to embrace all things German”

    That made me giggle…

No point getting wound up on deadline day, nothing of note is going to happen. Arshavin to Anzhi makes sense as he’s finished here after he was booed on the other night..

For me it wasn’t right, but he can have no complaints. He’s failed to live up to initial expectations and look disinterested, out of shape and lacklustre at the best of times. I also don’t agree with the notion he’s been played out of position by the manager, as the front three are meant to interchange and affect the game from attacking areas with and without the ball.

Pizarro to city looks a weird one. Anyone got any cheeky big move last minute punts?

  51. Bade

    IG

I affirm he had no Wiki yesterday, I checked it myself

Also he had no stats on soccernet that runs stats about many unknowns …..

  52. IvoryGoonz

I’m secretly hoping Wenger took note on Seydou Doumbia.
He’s been the hottest striker in CL and Russian league, and there’s no transfer rumours onhim at all…

Oh, and btw, talking Ivorian players, Eboue scored against Angola ;-)

  53. albo

Suga – 1) Can you please provide some actual evidence for that being the reason AA was left out of the team, because that sounds ludicrous to me

    2) Given how scathing you are of many of our players for being mentally weak, not working hard enough etc, I find it extraordinary that you think its ok that AA can be shit for 2 seasons because he’s sulking over being left out of 1 game. If that is the case, my friend, then he is fucking pathetic! And frankly, blaming Wenger for ruining him on the basis of leaving him out of one game is equally pathetic. It was a poor decision tactically, but let’s not pretend a world class footballer shouldn’t be able to cope with one game on the bench.

Seriously, its one of the most pathetic arguments I’ve ever heard on here…and that’s saying something!

  54. seventhwave101

    3 things only:
1)Arsh for Pavlychenko 100% yes id take it – thanks.
    2) Tevez ?, NO !!!!!!!!! i’d rather sign Satan himself.
    3) 19 yr from Dortmund, errrrrr NO! , anyone fancy a crocked 44 year from M K (i am available if AW is reading)

  55. R.S.P.C.Arsenal

its short notice , but i could take the afternoon off if they need someone to help AA23 , pack, drive to airport, talke paperwork to lancaster gate…etc… wont charge!

  56. Matt

I know that without opinions, there would be no Le Grove, or any other blog for that matter. But is nobody else getting tired going over and over this same shit day in day out.

    To summarise:

    1) Wengers a cunt
    2) We are fucked
    3) We’re all pissed off about it

I used to find the main reason I came on here was to find like minded people who made my thoughts and opinions on Wenger justified.

Now though, reading the same things over and over just frustrates me to the point that I find being numb to it all is the best soloution. Hence why I didnt give a shit when we were 2-0 down at the weekend and also why I didnt give a shit when we came back and made it 3-2.

I just hope that by the time Wenger is no longer in charge of my club (whenver that may be), my passion is not gone for good!

  57. SUGA3

    albo,

calm down sunshine or you may burst a vessel

if not that, what was the reason for leaving your best player out of the team in a cup semi?

  58. poko

Its about time this board and club start taking notice of the fan base… they treat us like crap!

Its time we start throwing some weight around and making their lives uncomfortable until they take us seriously.

No more selling our top players and we want some top players brought into the club … whats more, we want to win trophies as a club like arsenal should be doing. 7 years, selling our players and making us have to pay for it is simply disgusting.

Someone has to be made to pay for it.

  59. Goonerfied85

    True Lurch,

I have always thought he is a good finisher but I don’t think the spuds would sell to a supposed rival.

  60. SUGA3

and before you say ‘fatigue’, remember that the game before that FA Cup tie was a CL game, where AA could not play…

and that he came in the middle of the winter break…

  61. IvoryGoonz

Albo: can you give proofs that “Usmanov and Dein have nothing to do with each other anymore”?
Apart a PC quote from Usmanov to avoid more troubles with the board, I can’t see any new developments towards that theory, care to enlighten me?

  62. gambon

Im pretty sure we are no longer considered a rival by the top 4.

As evidenced by the fact Chelsea & Utd have been more than happy to sell to us.

We are now seen as Aston Villa/Everton in their eyes.

  63. albo

Hey, it was a poor decision, but surely the more likely reason is that Wenger prioritised 4th place over the FA Cup and wanted to rest him for Bolton on Tuesday.

It was a poor decision, but far more likely than the laughable suggestion that Wenger would drop his best player just to see what would happen without him!

  64. follow the money

Don’t expect anything to change. Gazidis and Wenger may claim that they are trying to win but it is simply not true. Gazidis came out and bragged about how Arsenal could go on doing things the way they are doing them forever. I can see how they like it, because share prices and value of the club are going up, but for how long??? At some point when the majority of the fans understand that Stan Ivan and OGL will NEVER spend the money it takes to put us over the top, and will always go for the cheap option, hoping and praying that 8 of their cheap youth projects turn into Cesc at the same time (what are the odds on that I wonder?) then fans will revolt and abandon going to games en masse and the value of the club and shares will plummet. That’s the only way we’re going to see any change, boys. Truly unfortunate

  65. nishanth

If we end up selling arshavin we will go into the last 4 months on the season with only RVP,Gervinho,Theo and oxo as our creative players(Unless you include park, chamakh etc.).Out of which theo is fucking useless. As poor as arshavin has been atleast when he plays behind the striker he is effective.I thinks its only going to to get worse from here on.Without a back up striker for RVP we are truly fucked.

  66. Bade

    Albo

Yes, like Arsene never done it again?

I have a sever memory problem…… What happened in that game when we lost at home to the Mancs?

  67. IvoryGoonz

And to the twitter question at the bottom, yes, Eisfeld and Aneke are both M/AMC primarily AMC, difference I believe being Aneke could play as striker as well, but seems to lack vision. Ain’t too sure about this Eisfeld, but sounds to me same level as Jenkinson fitness-wise.
Just another purchase for the future, but we are already forfeiting on HG status.
    And that’s what kills me.
Why buy youth/reserve players over 17 that will never have the game time or the quality for first 11, and send on loan 15 players from reserve?
Arsene, when will you realise your synthetics diamonds will never be as good as real diamonds?

  68. SUGA3

    albo,

er, no, it’s not laughable at all given how deranged Wenger is and the next game was THAT 4:4 tie against Pool…

so, first you are left out of the team for the semi because your manager has a point to prove and then you give the performance of the season just to see cunt Diaby standing watching as the last ditch equaliser goes in…

well, dunno about you I would be massively fucked off…

I already said we’re the new Everton ……

People, Arsene the nutty included, have a mystic belief 4th is ours no matter what, and it is quite amazing when you do think how they should be using their brain and logic

We were 4th down to teams being more pathetic than us

But this season it has come to an end, with the emergence of the Spuds

People thinking we can overtake the Chavs are just as deluded as Arsene when he said Denilson is world class. That ain’t going to happen. They added in this window and they’re starting to get used to the new manager’s methods and style of play, so from here on they’ll be flying, and I think they’re with the best odds to win the FA cup now …..

  71. gambon

    Suga

I agree that Wenger has handled AA badly, and that FA Cup semi was utterly pathetic, but then again wenger has always been an appalling man-manager.

However that doesnt really excuse the completely pathetic displays we’ve seen since does it.

He is a joke of a footballer and a joke of a man.

  72. nuudles

Ivory, I have Doumbia in my squad in FIFA 12 :) In the game he is very fast, has great strength & finish. I must admit I have not seen much of him and only read his wiki page but his stats look impressive. Dont really know enough to comment beyond that.

Saha to Spuds is a very funny one. Spuds hoping Lpool come and pay over the odds for Defou? Or is it just Arry being Arry (i.e. moar strikerz)?

  73. gambon

    Bade

The difference is Everton are skint, we are minted.

We are there by choice, Everton be necessity.

Oh and Everton have, you guessed it, outspent us in the transfer market since the Emirates move.

    Arsenal net = -£31m
    Everton net = £3m

They have outspent us by £34m.

  74. WD

I’d like honesty (re Gazidis comments)

In other words, just admit we sold Nasri and Fabregas as we needed the money, nothing to do with the other BS excuses about ‘fab’s DNA’ or Nasri’s contract as otherwise we’d reinvest the money into e.g. triggering Hazard’s buyout clause and whilst Jan may be tougher, it’s not as if we bought the quality or depth needed to replace what we lost last summer.

  75. albo

Apologies – of course, Liverpool. In fact an even bigger game in terms of going for top 4, so I guess supports my theory even more.

Anyway, this argument isn’t about whether it was the right decision (it wasn’t!). Its you’re pathetic assertion that it is behind his 2 year dip in form

  76. nishanth

SUGA3-What was sad was that he instead played RVP out of position. In a cup semi he decided to fuck around with formations and played players out of positions.Just noticed even denilson fucking started that game

  77. nuudles

Pardew says they submitted their final bid for the Watford defender, Pardew has made some good signings of late so it seems there must be something around Mariappa.

  78. tippitappi

I assume wenger and the board must be happy with the squad and the progress made this season so far on the field ,their be puffed up with pride their bank bollocks has stayed intact. So little interest desire and enthusiasm for the real business as they chase their fucking nest eggs how anyone still backs them is beyond me like a kind of Hitler in the bunker mentality

  79. TT_

If Usmanov ever took over id bet my house that Dein would be installed as CEO.

    —-

Seems like the only glimmer of hope right now …

  80. gambon

And as for WHY wenger dropped our best player, Arshavin…

He has publicly said it was to give the shit cunts like Diaby & Denilson more confidence for the UTD game.

  81. Bade

    Gambon

I’m sure that second division Omani team outspent us as well….

“We are there by choice”, is equally, true, painful and irritating

  82. DaleDaGooner

I could careless about Eisfeld….Chavs bought an unknown today and United are too skint to buy anyone. Hopefully we do some kind of business today…RvP re-signing??? Not a chance…lets just move on…I’d like to see who in the youth ranks we can promote. Yennaris will be a good signing.

  83. Josip Skoblar

Would sacking Wenger and keeping the same Board change anything at all? I doubt it. This Board (notably Gazidis) is also totally out of their depth.

  84. Ade David

I am a Nigerian gooner. I have been a reader of Le Grove 4 some years now but i have never posted any comment. I just want 2 say that u people (Pedro & Geoff) are doing a good job here. Emirate Arsenal fans are just like Nigerian fans when our national football teams are playing. Nigerians only cheer or applaud when Super Eagles is playing very well or scoring goals. We gooners need to always get behind the teams all the time. This is our responsibility. Then how do we show our discontentment? Not by booing players on d field of play, or by moan. U supporters in England can organise yourselves, send representatives to d board or d coaching crews. We can even write a letter sign by gooners all over d world. I can assure u that thousands of thousands if not millions will sign it in Nigeria. Many of us are not happy d way our darling club is been run. Here in Nigeria, we are laughing stocks among Man U & Chelsea supporters. We just need 2 win something this year to silent our mockers. Who said Arsenal cant win FA cup this year? If only Le Prof can b serious about it. (Gooner even after death).

  85. Bade

    Blimey,

Arsene’s more interested in making points and his self crusades than any other success this team can get to

At least he act this way

Interesting how those millions in the bank will do when we’ll have Robin sidelined…. MMMM I think they will manage to score about 1.25% interest, which means 20 added points in the league!

  86. nishanth

I thinks barcelona’s success has had an effect on us.Wenger changed our formation since barcelona did the treble. However we ended up playing players out of position and nowhere near the work ethic they have.Wenger will stick to the formation no matter what happens.

  87. nishanth

Wenger’s reluctance to play him in his preferred position, as a classic No10, is confusing. While it is easy to criticise Arshavin, and he has too easily appeared defeatist, the requirements of a modern winger – the ability to track back, the stamina to patrol his flank, the pace to beat a full-back – have never been his major assets. Imagine if Bergkamp, who was a terrible tackler, and relied on speed of thought rather than speed of movement – had been asked to play wide left for three seasons. It probably would not have inspired the best from him, either.

    Great point from amy lawrence

  88. DaleDaGooner

gambon, what’s your obsession with out spending others??? I sure hope your bosses don’t know you harbor such ambitions to “out spend” funds just so it looks like you are doing something…Everton outspent us in transfer 3m to -31m…whooopti doo…what are their wages compared to our bloated wages??

  89. SUGA3

    nish,

Wenger is a copycat, first he copied Ajax, now he is trying to copy Barca…

the thing is that if your ‘reverse engineering’ is focused on the ‘outside’ and you use inferior parts, the outcome is likely to be the VERY poor man’s version of the original…

  90. eastofthelea

Don’t think there was that much infighting yesterday ( apart from
that lovers tiff that ran the whole afternoon, no offence to either
but at some point you gotta just walk away).

There seemed to be a united view you pay your money you
get served that crap what do you expect.

  91. Goon from BD

Arshavin was no “proven” wizard. He came from the RPL at the age of 26/27 FFS!!! His physical peak…..to a much higher physically and technically demanding league. And this shit about playing in the hole is just that….shit.

Milos Krasic moved to Juventus at a similar age from CSKA Moscow….great first half season and then everybody figured out he did the same shit over and over again and Juve figured he couldn’t cope physically and technically to adapt in different systems. Serie A is much slower than the EPL.

  92. nishanth

Most clubs have atleast 4 strikers at their disposal. And the top clubs will have atleast 3 quality ones.We have just the 3 strikers out of which 2 have 2 goals between them this season.Wenger really has no excuse for not buying a striker

  93. Yippee Kai Yay

    albo, I am curious.

What is your definition of ‘world class footballer’?

For me the club only has one ‘world class’ players, RVP.
    - He would be 1st choice on majority of international teams starting XI if they could have him. And would be an obvious choice for FIFPro squad at very least, prefably would be recognised as one of best XI in the world. For me RVP is currnetly better than rooney who made 2011 FIFPro XI, so he qualifies.

With Sagna not far behind, and if JW comes back, add him with TV to make three ‘international class’ players.
    - All would make 1st choice in National team starting XI chosen position because they have class, and revered as one of the best for their position even when not on form. And will have played in that position consistently including majoy international tounaments.

But the rest are ‘international standard’ but lacking in ‘class’ stakes.
    - In the national squad, play in international tounaments, but they are there because no-one better, and not the best on international stage, just as likely to be dropped on ‘form’.

I know not everyone will agree with my position, but that is my benchmark fro my own definitions, one man’s ‘world class’ is another mans ‘international player’.

It is just that it is an expression often bounded about, and so is it not worth clairifying what it means to you, in order to avoid confusion and cross purpose conversations (in light of trying to reduce in fighting)?

  94. natty

Thomas Eisfeld, what a strange signing. Dortmund have several better young midfield players than this kid. We signed him because he’s at the end of his contract and Dortmund dont rate him highly enough to negotiate a new one. Cheap is our motto these days. This is nearly as bizarre as the Park signing.

Someone should tell Gazidis we’re not in three competitions. We cannot win the PL, we cannot win the CL, so in realistic terms its the F.A cup alone. Gazidis just does not impress me, and if the rumours are, his mate Dick Law should be returned to the U.S as soon as possible.

  95. nishanth

Wenger said that the reason we shifted to 4-3-3 was because it would have given our defense better protection.Since 2009 it has only gotten worse. And he still hasn’t changed it in a single fucking game. The fact that we play with 1 striker upfront at home against leeds is just embarrassing

I’ve just recently fought this with another group of Gooners I watch games with…Their disdain for Arshavin, while conveniently excusing Wenger is baffling….I tried to reason that Bergkamp would never be able to play as a winger…I got the “How dare you compare Bergkamp with Arshavin” He is required to be a complete football…..i shake my head….Arsenal fans have major issues, forget the board and Wenger.
