Henry euphoria settling down / reality kicking in | Chamberlain staying | Aly Cissokho on the cards

by & filed under News Review.

Well, well, well… January has been the total opposite of exciting so far, it’s not often you go into a Thursday with this little news to work with. Today’s post will be a bit like making a Sunday roast with two ingredients today, but providing those two ingredients are beer and meat, we should be ok!

So first up is the story that made its way onto the Daily Star site about Oxo wanting out. I firstly thought it’d be a play on words… Like ‘Oxo wants out of the cupboard Thierry locks him in after losing a race’… but on opening the article, it went all out in a ‘he demands a loan move due to lack of first team opportunities.’

How queer I thought?

Well, the Daily Star forgot about the awesome power of Twitter and watched on in embarrassment as the little scamp outright damned the report.

Just to confirm, any rumours about me wanting to leave are completely false, couldn’t be happier at Arsenal #AFC #VictoryThroughHarmony

Go Twitter, go the truth.

Why anyone would write a story like that when Arsene played him against Leeds and is on record as saying he’ll get games. Now, I’m reasonably excited about watching him start, but a big fat dose of reality needs to be taken. He won’t save our season, he’s not built for that pressure yet and being young doesn’t mean he’s as capable as Anelka was at that age.

*Do check out his Twitter background on his home page. It’s all very London Riots. If anyone saw him stealing chewing gum, don’t report him, it’s a 3 month custodial sentence.

Ryo Miyachi would have suited the Daily Star story a little more. The one thing we know about this chap is that he’s at least shown he can play in a reasonably competitive league. He’s started featuring on the bench after injury issues and as far as I’m concerned, pace off the bench is always a great thing to have. He’s a skillful player and again, I’ve heard exciting things about him from people who’ve watched him train recently. He’ll be a very good player if accounts are to be believed.

Rumour were flying around yesterday after people caught wind that Park Chu-young had been yanked off at half time. Was it injury? Was it freshness preparation for a weekend start? was it because he’s an utter disaster of a player? Who knows…

One thing is for sure, everytime I ask my lady in the tea room, she says that he’s not a bad player, he’s just not getting game time because of the risk he’ll struggle. Wenger isn’t indulging new players this year unless he knows they’ll fly. In seasons gone by, we’d be complaining an impending Oxo or Frimpong breakdown due to over use, not this year. Oh, and remember, Pam was the one who told you at the start the training staff had high hopes Koscielny could be better than Thomas Vermaelen. I’m not saying he is, but judging by the embarrassing amount of damp pant blog action over the boy, you’d have to say he’s coming good.

Big Tone of ex-Captain notoriety has been on the charm offensive. He likes Big Per, our German centre back. He likes him a lot, he interests him in a most philosophical way, a way in which only a defender could interest him.

“I’ve seen Per Mertesacker a few times now, he interests me and I think he is a good player,”

“I think he is very intelligent and he knows how to play central defence.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing more of him because I don’t think Thomas Vermaelen has actually played enough with him just yet. But they could be a fantastic central defensive partnership and would certainly excite me.

Well I’ll be damned, Tony says all the things I say about Mertesacker. He is intelligent, he is a good player, he’s just slow and football fans equate slow with crap. Which is a shame, though I have no fears about his future, he’ll be a very important player for us over the coming years.

In other news there was quite a fearsome debate had last night on Twitter. It seems the fan hangover has finally started to kick in. The haze of Thierry euphoria is slowly dying down and the realisation that we’ve only hot him for 5 games has settled in. For me, I’m not sure there is a player out there who could come in and lift us in the way he will over 5 games. He knows the league, he’s world-class and he has a presence. However, the relentless gonnerganda on Arsenal.com tells you all you need to know about how little we’re likely to see on the transfer front this January.

Fans are sentimental, not stupid. We should be pushing the boat out to ensure we have a squad capable of overhauling Spurs. They’re doing well because they have great players and a great squad. They’ve done it on a budget and they’ve done it with the oldest team they’ve had for 8 years.

Was Scott Parker a risk over the length of his contract? Yes. Was he as risk on the pitch? No. Was he overrated? No. He’s the sort of extra body we should have been snapping up. Instead, we allowed our summer to carry on in shambolic fashion and we are where we are.

Now its January, the month we were all told the manager would definitely know what needed to be done and Thierry is the only ‘major’ signing. Not just that, but we’ve now got Bobby Pires back at training. Is there anyone we won’t invite back to the squad to remind us of what we’re now not?

“Will I make it like Henry? No, it’s sure. It’s not at all my intention, nor that of Arsene Wenger. His team is complete in midfield.”

One player I have enjoyed this season is Arteta. Though he didn’t replace Cesc in any way shape or form, he has shown Arsenal fans what could have been. Why he wasn’t in our squad last year or the year before utterly perplexes me. Diaby should have been relegated to second string long ago for a player like Arteta. Our trouble over the past 5  years is that we’ve normally got a very capable first team 11, outside that, we don’t bring in the players who can make a difference. Arsenal fans say, ‘where do you expect that striker to play’, like rotation isn’t a tried and tested concept.

Talking of Diaby, who we should rename, Diaby Facesfreshinjurysetback… He’s now out in Qatar getting more treatment. Delist him. If he comes back, loan him the Beveren. He’s a waste or £60k and a waste of a squad number and undoubtedly his injury record combined with Wenger’s faith has cost us over the years.

Just to perk you up more than a double shot of espresso, how about me telling you about the left back we might be signing. His name is Aly Cissokho, he’s supposed to be quite good and let me tell you for free… the boy knows how to smile. JD has competition on his hands.

This guy makes sadness smile

We’ve also seen this blog about Suarez the non-racist and his so called pre-contract which I’m not sure I believe.

Finally, I thought I’d leave you with a cracking poster of Jack Wilshere to get you excited about his impending return. I couldn’t find one of Jenkinson for some reason?

Jack poster

P.S. This video of Nasri getting ripped by Liverpool fans is also a day cheererupper.

I’m sure he had to let Flamini walk out on a free as he was convinced that he was gonna stay.

We will see in a fortnight when there are hardly any suiters around to take our garbage players on high wages…

We are now the 3rd best team in London!

Fuck me, who next, Fulham to overtake us?

    Gambosh,
Mind you Fulham took 5 point to our 1 in the double tie this season…. make what you want out of this

  3. Rohan

Yeah, especially when Diaby is someone who would command a decent fee in France. French international and all that.

Dunno, I think Wenger’s just giving him one last chance to somehow sustain an injury-free run and see if he’s able to push on. He’s reaching his “peak” now. He’s lost out on so much experience and game time, he’s 5 years behind his contemporaries.

  4. Dan Ahern (@topical_storm)

Pato’s awesome but 35m is NOT a bargain, sorry. (That said… would’ve been totally worth it just for the impact and resolve it shows.)
This is crazy though, Tevez to AC is ready to happen, yeah?

Damn. Please, Arsenal, give us news of anything. Anything at all.
Could it just be we’re the worst negotiators ever? Or just too cheap?

  5. Bush Gooner

Take a look at that welsh guy at Man U who fucked his brothers wife. He suffered with hamstring and ankle injuries and he is still playing at the highest level. Wenger likes to hold onto cheap replacements than stick with experience. Because of that we have had nothing to show for 7 years.

  6. Rohan

It’s sad really because even with all his naivety and inconsistencies , he’s still has massive potential.

He’s sadly finished now I think.

  7. Rohan

If anyone wants to feel a little bit better.

RT @MikelArteta08: Sp*rs have played just 3 games away from home against teams in top 10 (United, Stoke, Newcastle) and have not won once.

  8. Bush Gooner

Wenger is so happy that 4th is the new trophy that he should have erected a tablet statue of the league table of the past 4 years of us finishing 4th..

  9. Josip Skoblar

I think Cissokho would be a decent signing. I haven’t seen him play much, but he is fast, strong and has good technique. he is Arsenal material.

  10. DaleDaGooner

LeedsGunner, forget BBC crowing about spuds, gooners on here licking the spuds sauce is disgusting…yuck! “We are now the 3rd best team in London” have some decency you whiney bastards! it’s the fucking spuds for crying out loud, no respect, no mercies for the scums!

  11. Ricky

    Evening fella’s!

Cissokho would be massive improvement to what we have.. Could actually see him being as successful as sagna has been..

  12. incesc

he sounds like a wenger signing josip.

i think gibbs should go out on loan if we get him, santos and cissokho battling it out is some good options there.

  13. Josip Skoblar

    incesc
Cissokho is no doubt a good player, but I above all like his strength and athleticism. We badly need that after Gibbs who, poor lad, is made of glass. Yes, Cissokho in and Gibbs on loan would be a clever move.

  14. Ricky

    Incesc,

That’s what I’m hoping.. I don’t see who would want to take Gibbs with all the injury problems he’s having..

He’s a good kid.. We would have been sorted if he never had these problems but unfortunately he’s just One of those players that’s always going to struggle with fitness.

  15. gambon

Cissoko in; Gibbs out – Great business.

Walcott out; Hazard in – Amazing business

Chamakh, Park, Bendtner & Vela out; Cavani in – Orgasmic business

  16. Dan Ahern (@topical_storm)

Okay sounds like the Pato move and the Tevez move aren’t happening now. Let’s see, if Pato rejects PSG for 35m…
    (counts on his fingers)
    (muttering… Chamakh.. Squid… Rosicky.. Almunia… Arshavin…)
y..Yes, it just might work! Sell everybody…

    …and we’re 2.5m closer! Pato for 32.5m, hurrah!

  17. Gooby

    january:

    chamakh>podolski
    +cissokho

    summer:

    rosicky, benayoun>eriksen
    arshavin>oxo, miyachi

    We could be looking at:

    ———chesney———–
    sagna-kozz-verm-cissokho/santos
    ——-wilshere–song———
    —–eriksen/ramsey———–
    -theo/oxo—–gerv/myiachi/podolski-
    ———podolski/RvP———

  18. Gooby

    dale i think it’s realistic

chamakh sale would bring £4m at least
    arshavin’s £8m at least
    rosicky ???

    podolski £12m
    erriksen £15m at most
    cissokho £8m

£23m spent without any major change in the wage structure
3 foreigners out 3 foreigners in.

    it can happen imo

  19. DaleDaGooner

It is, but it never happens like that at Arsenal, would be nice, but will Chamakh really be sold or bought? Will there be real offers for Arshavin good enough to consider? More important is, will Podolski really want to move to us now in January, risking being a flop or for a wage he may not be satisfied with? Is Ajax willing to sell Erriksen to us now, and isn’t he cup-tied? Cissokho in would mean Arsene throws the towel on Gibbs, We know he prefers a loan, but not gonna happen.

Expect a loan signing at LB and maybe, just maybe another striker

  20. frenchie

    FFTransferNews Football fanzine
***Chelsea ARE close to agreeing a fee with Lille for Star man Hazard. Man City had made contact but no developments recently

never worry, we will take kalou.

  21. Stu

I hate being an arsenal fan. Dont know why i stick with it. Never any big transfers and never win anything. So depressing..

  22. SUGA3

oh well, seems like Chavs are serious about qualifying for the CL, unlike us, eh?

before anyone goes on the bullshit rant about financial doping, I shall remind these individuals that we are looking up the table at the team with considerably lesser resources in fucking Spuds!

  23. frenchie

yeah, sug, i think i have read that on his tl…must be nice acting as your only “source,” as he claims to be, because you are then allowed a certain poetic license with the transfer information you publish.

  24. Ja_Gunner

I would re-shuffle the team like this between now and summer.

    Get Podolski now.
Go after Kaka in the summer. So we play 4411.
    ……………………….Szezny……………………………
    Coquelin……….MertKoz……….Verm………Cissoko
    Theo…………….Song……………Arteta……….Podolski
    ………………………………Arshavin……………………………
    …………………………………………….RVP………………………

But for the future our squad should be something like

    GK – Szezny, Sorenson
CB – Verm, Kozzer, Mert, Djuru, Miquel
    LB – Santos, Cissoko, Gibbs???
RB – Sagna, Jenk, Coquelin(utility man)
MF – Song, Arteta, Jack, Ramsey, Diaby, Frims
    AMSS – Kaka, Arshavin
Wing – Gerv, Podolski, Oxo, Myachi
ST – RVP, Theo, Park, Joel, Afobe

Imagine lining up like this next season….

    ………………………Szezny……………………………….
    Sagna………..KozMert………Verm………Santos
    Gerv……………Song……….Arteta…………Podolski
    ……………………..Kaka……………………………………
    ………………………………………..RVP……………………

This team with the backups listed above is an impressive squad that would win something.

  25. IvoryGoonz

Dale: even with good offers for some of this dross, namely 7m for Diaby, Wenger didn’t sell… I dont think the shit has hit the fan yet for Wenger regarding some of these players…
Same with timing of offers “we” do.
You seen the story about us enquiring about Maxwell but again, too late for hia team to look for replacement?
Same as this summer, always too little too late.
It’s become Arsenal’s trademark in the transfer market so much agents start to talk about it…
In the worst case we’ll get our 5th target on deadline day again.

  26. frenchie

    ja-

can you take djourou off that squad sheet? if you are putting the squad for the future, add bartley. djourou must be shifted.

  27. Dan Ahern (@topical_storm)

I’d much rather sell Arshavin. With Gervinho, Theo, Ox, and Ryo, we’ve got enough depth that we don’t need him wide. And with JW coming back we really don’t need him to play central either (not that we play him there anyway…). The only issue is if you want him at SS, which I don’t anyway. He’s worth more as pounds in the bank than he is attacking these days.

We should definitely take anything over, say, 7-8m for him to have more money for transfers in.

  28. frenchie

i am not certain that i would consider ryo as depth. not this season, at least…but i would also gladly see the end of arsh’s tenure at arsenal.

  29. SUGA3

    Dan,

we have stupid amount of money laying dormant already, what is the point in making the dusty pile of mole infested cash any bigger?

there is no use for the money that does not get spent…

  30. frenchie

swansea just cancelled david cotterill’s contract.

see, arsene, it can be done. cut diaby loose!!! and send gibbs on loan.

oh, and inform chamakh he need not bother returning from the acon, because his absence will not be felt.

  31. kwik fit

If Arshavin played every game like he did on Monday I wouldn’t mind he stay until the summer. Unless an offer we can’t refuse comes in ,of course.

  32. DaleDaGooner

It’s either Oxlade-Chamberlain and Miyaichi are good enough or they aren’t….as i remembered, Hazard wanted us or Real, ending up at Chelsea, doesn’t fill be with threat either way…. Mata would have been a starter, Yossi isn’t, Hazard is supposed to be a starter, Kalou won’t…not unless he is coming to replace RvP, then we can bring out the riot.

Like some said, Hazard just strikes me as a Nasri type, he’d soon leave us for Madrid when the time comes in 3 years.

  33. SUGA3

still, it would get you 3 years of service from a quality player and we would probably take Real to the cleaners selling him…

regardless of how good they may be potential wise, AOC and Miyaichi are just fucking kids, 3 years sounds about right for them development wise, no?

and Chavs getting a quality player or a few doesn’t fill you with dread? speaks volumes about your ambition…

  34. DaleDaGooner

Ok, I agree, but Hazard himself is only 21, so if Any of them are any good, now is the time to know, after all Gotze is wanted and he is only 19…we are relying on all these supposed wonder kids to get excitement and winning ways… Mata won’t have saved our season, just ask Nasri what he really did for us trophy-wise.

  35. SUGA3

    in other news:

    Police United FC 2 – 4 Osotspa M-150

seems like PUFC could do with a striker, losing to Royal Thai Army and now this…

Chamakh should be loaned out there, he would go apeshit with all these ladyboys around

  36. DaleDaGooner

I’d like to spend my money on a proven quality at 25 or exceptional quality with loyalty, humility and respect at that age….I am a huge Hazard advocate, but lately he is looking “bigger” than normal. Don’t get me wrong, I want him in if we can rival Chavs, but didn’t Lille say he wasn’t for sale in Winter?

  37. DaleDaGooner

Speaks volumes of PSG, Man City, Man U ‘s ambition that they aren’t lining up to counter Chavs bid for Hazard

  38. SUGA3

and why would Shitty or ManYoo bid for him?

they are where they want to be (first and second), no threat to their CL qualification, unlike us and Chavs!

as for the PSG, they are in the same league, hence it is not likely that he would like to go there in the first place…

  39. DaleDaGooner

Anyway, it appears Arsene is looking at AOC and or Ryo and thinking to himself “I’ve got what i need in terms of that style” I am thinking his target is Gotze if we are to believe 30m will be splashed on a single player.

  40. SUGA3

don’t think it’s going to happen, they would have to offer him properly silly money, as he is not likely to get as much playing time for the northern Chavs as he is for the southern ones…

  41. DaleDaGooner

ManYoo could use some creativity dude, they are slipping, and spuds might overtake them, based on the panic around this blog

  42. DaleDaGooner

Based on what i’ve seen so far with AOC, i am more worried about getting a quality creative CM and LB/RB with a striker than a winger at the moment, so if Hazard won’t come to us and choses Chelsea, so be it. Mata did and they still suck!

  43. SUGA3

ManYoo are not going to finish outside of the top three, hell, they may even nick the title, hence there is no need for them to strengthen, especially in the wide areas, given that they just bought Young for the same position…

and yes, Sp*ds have a bit of a chance as well, and yes, they have overtaken us all good and proper, don’t give a fuck about them overtaking Yoonited, not one bit!

  44. Ricky

    Agree dale,

Utd have giggs, nani, rooney & young & they’re struggling for some creativness hence the short term signing of scholes..

We have less creative players then them & wenger thinks all is rosie..

I can almost guarentee fergie will bring sneijder in during the summer while we can’t do the same for aw.

  45. frenchie

january transfers typically require twice the normal going rate. lille is attempting to win ligue 1, the more i think of it the more i doubt they would be inclined to sell hazard before june. this is compounded by the fact their number one striking target is sucking in our reserves.

  46. Ricky

    Suga,

you know fergie was digging deep to try bring sneijder in early this month?

sneijder didn’t wanna leave until the summer for personal reasons plus he gets to play CL football at inter.

  47. SUGA3

yes, but Sneijder and Hazard are completely different players, right?

unlike Wenger, Fergie buys players that are fit for the particular purpose rather than repeating the self harming square peg round hole shit routine season in season out…

  48. DaleDaGooner

Ricky, not sure if you meant that as sarcasm, but Young, Valencia, Rooney and Giggs, in comparison to Gervinho, Walcott, RvP, Song, *Ramsey* *Arshavin* *Rosicky* *Benayoun* and the little maestros Ryo and AOC isn’t far off what they have, if you equate the guys with stars as 1/2 a player

  49. frenchie

    Heroart Hero
Chelsea have bid for Eden Hazard, their bid is £25 million, which is about 1.5 million above his market value…

  50. Kay

we have to be contended with 5th place trophy if ,
IF chavs buy hazard, cahill and a CAM/ST (torres finds form somehow?),
    IF spuds buy remy, verthongen
still arsene wont be sacked coz he got us from 17th to 5th.
arsenal in the 125 yr = forward?

  51. DaleDaGooner

oh, add Nani to the yoonited creative players, and they could still use someone in the middle,

SUGA, don’t discount guys like Wilshere from our team, I’m good with Wilshere, AOC, Gervinho, RvP…now if we could add Podolski and Gotze that would be the bollocks, seeing as that won’t happen..i’ll temper my expectation and avoid high blood pressure.

Hazard to Chavs, it won’t hurt me, like i said, dude has gone from wanting us to Real, to Inter to Chavs….i want a player who is really available at fair price in January and wants to come to us.

  52. Ricky

Too right suga! One thing you cant knock that old bastard for… He never fannys about with players he targets.

    Dale,

Ramsey, arshavin, rosicky & walcott?? Benny, ryo & oxo hardly ever feature so they cant be counted..

So apart from song (which has come as a suprise) & sometime gervinho we dont have the players that are going to create as many chances as we should per game.

  53. SUGA3

    Dale,

I absolutely love Jack, but to be honest, if you are s concerned about your blood pressure, don’t expect a lot from the lad…

these few months lost due to Wenger being an idiot slave driver is a lot at this age, I am not pinning any hopes on JW this season, would even prefer if he gave Euros a miss and have a proper pre-season instead…

Podolski is a realistic target, Gotze is not, plus, I don’t even think he is all that and that we need another kid like a hole in the head…

  54. DaleDaGooner

Ricky you have a point, RvP and Song being our assist leaders is a sham, Gervinho and Walcott ought to be ashamed, But I think More playing time for Oxo can see some sparks for us.

  55. DaleDaGooner

so other than Nani and Valencia, we are doing fine, Walcott just has to either up his goals or assist more, sadly he isn’t really a football genius, Oxo should provide more than Walcott as it stands.

  56. IvoryGoonz

And on Nasri, some should ask themselves if we’d actually have saved the season and finished fourth without him lifting the team when Fabregas and/or VP were out.
You can’t blame players for leaving us for better deals and better chances. If you really want them to stay, you always know what to do. And I won’t blame VP for leaving if the board feels it’s good financial wise to sell him soon. They’ve done it with Nasri, promised quality signings. And nothing.
Took a beating by Man U 8-2 for Wenger and the board to wake up. But all too little too late.
    Wenger and the board out.
It’s all about the money and how not to spend it for them. Until the last fan understands that and open his/her eyes, don’t expect miracles. We’ll just be served the same sauce again, and again, and again, until the debt is fully repaid, and we make 50m every year in profit on the cash on account.
Great. Superb. Brilliant way to make sure you have money forever…
If fans are happy hoping for the future and happy with a fucking 4th trophy, I ain’t.

  57. Keyser

“If fans are happy hoping for the future and happy with a fucking 4th trophy, I ain’t.”

Well, what are you going to do about it ?!

  58. DaleDaGooner

IG 4th with a cup is not too bad, so i don’t think any Gooner is happy with 4th as a trophy, I think the general hope is 4th with a Cup (last year 2nd with CC would have meant progress, sadly a few players fucked us over)

  59. Keyser

Fergus has needed to replace Scholes for about 5 years, and he’s struggling to do it, must be hard seeing someone you got for nothing leave and the players that will come in will never live up to their predecessor.

  60. Keyser

Also Nasri’s Citeh move was being mentioned before the January transfer windown last year, how much impact do people think this could’ve had on his massive drop in performance second half of the season.

  61. Ricky

Dale, walcott will probably start chipping in after AW awards him with the 90k a week contract he so deserves..

If gervinho didn’t fluff half he’s chances he could be leading the assists table for the epl by some distance…

Instead we got our only striker & leading goal scorer along with our defensive midfielder (who turns off on occasions) doing all the bizz…

  62. IvoryGoonz

I s’pose I’ll keep barking at the tree until it falls down of old age.
Unless I win EuroMillions in the meantime, or that my genius is finally recognized…

  63. Hitman

I can see Spurs having a mini slump – but even then I do not think we have the ability to catch. This Arsenal team is very poor and will
lose many more games this season.

We could finish anywhere between 4-7th this seaon.

If we finsh out of the top four – I’d rather finsh 7th than 5th.
Only then might we see some change in our transfer strategy.

  64. SUGA3

    Hitman,

that mini slump can only possibly amount to us putting up a bit of a fight to make the St Tott’s Day a reality, but quite frankly, it is my belief that we will still lose more games before the season ends than they will…

  65. Herkules

Dale is my hero.. he stands up for what is right – day after day… not sure how he has the patience to be honest.

Here is how the table will finish this year.

    City
    ManU
    Spuds/Arsenal
    Arsenal/Spuds
    Chelsea
    ‘Pool
    Newcastle

Also – we’ll make the semis of the CL -you guys have to understand we consistently play to our competition – that’s what happens with young teams.. we show up for the big games and but then get lazy against Fulham…

Have faith – we’ll be alright

  66. SUGA3

    have faith?

faith can do wonders, but, unless it is some cheesy movie, it does not beat the better, ffs!

I would reserve claims about finishing above Chelsea until the end of January when they are done spending Roman’s 150M kitty, might be a safer option…

  67. Gooby

i believe spurs can suffer from their tough calendar and a fantastic habit to turn everything they did into a mess around march.

We just need to be consistent…well…i give up

  68. WengersSweeties

Sorry Herkules, but I have zero faith. We have gone too far backwards this time and we have allowed Spurs to over take us which is the ultimate insult. And the board don’t care.

After watching games Villa, Wolves, Q.P.R and Fulham it’s clear to see how shit we are.

We will finish between 8th and 5th.

  69. SUGA3

and I am sorry, but explanation that the players don’t show up for a game against Fulham because they are young is just plain fucking lame!

if they are paid an arm and a leg, they are expected to leave their fucking arms and legs on the pitch if need be!

I suggested before christmas that gooners would be better off hoping for a spurs win vs chavs (based on fact that sprs wheels will fall off cart at some point). Well they are a point ahead.

I wonder what result people will want when spurs vistis their west london shithole.

1st order of business, getting ahead and staying ahead of chavs.

and lol at the person earlier saying how crap shitmak was and then in the same breathe, suggesting he could be sold for £4mil. Why would anyone buy him currently (especially as awy at acn), Why would they pay anything? and who could afford his wages?

    4 million pounds {tee hee hee}

  71. SUGA3

    Gooby,

they implode around March, do they?

that’s cool, we normally last until about mid Feb, so if this is meant to be a pattern, then FSM help us all…

Comment of the year & we’re only in jan..

    Hahaha

  73. incesc

Herkules, i genuinely think this is how the table will finish this year.

    City
    spuds
    man u
    Chelsea
    arsenal
    Pool

Rvp will get injured. And we have champions league which means draws or losses before and after.

  74. Ricky

Hugo Rodallega in the last year of he’s contract?

I get the feeling wenger will be after him instead of podolski…

  75. Yippee Kai Yay

And why are poeple talking about spurs calendar? They managed to fcuk up the the Europa well enough to have no midweek games when all the other top 5 have other commitments.

Yes they have away games against tough opposition comparitive to that which they have faced already. But that doesn’t help AFC with their first order of business, 4th place especially when AFC don’t even have the squad to beat fulham away.

Lt’s just see what happens in next two weeks, before people start relying on other teams having ‘blips’, Swansea play a decet style of football, and what are the odds of Howard Plebb turning out for Man U soon?

  76. Herkules

you could be right @incesc – I just don’t rate Chelsea as high as you do.. other than Mata I actually think they’re pretty poor – and bringing in new faces there won’t actually solve their problem (which is unity and consistency) it will actually make it worse.

and thank you @frenchie – that was hilarious ;-)

  77. SUGA3

    Herkules,

and what is going to solve our problems, you know, like not having a goalscorer worth mentioning besides RvP, fuck all depth in the defence, no backup keeper and the like?

  78. Herkules

My basic premise is that every team – literally EVERY team – has holes and problems and most fan boards everywhere light up with lots of the things folks do here as well…

We are due for another stint of form and confidence and I think we’re going to get it during the Milan – ManU – Milan stretch… it is certainly true that Arsenal aren’t the best team in England (which sucks and I’m pissed by that) but we’re still “one of the” best.

On our day we can beat anyone… hopefully Sagna can come back soon – and Yossi and Park can get some starts.. if we add someone in Jan we can even make a decent run at the FA Cup

  79. frenchie

the only start i think park will get is an early one on his national duties. similar to the korean army, he is really good in practice and has yet to show any worth in the trenches.

  80. Dan Ahern (@topical_storm)

@SUGA3 Regarding an old comment now, but, yeah, I know we got plenty in the bank already. Doesn’t matter. You still want more in the transfer fund, and Arshavin’s wages off the books. It just makes us more able to acquire players, and gives the board and Wenger even less excuses to spend. The fact is the guy had one good game for the whole season, and just a handful flashes of his former self besides that. Let’s get some money to apply elsewhere.

  81. Herkules

you could be right @algergooner.. but I do think statistics are important… and short term trends usually reverse themselves.

also – I meant Milan – Tottenham – Milan .. which will be huge for us… good results there will literally turn the whole thing around

  82. SUGA3

    Herkules,

I can’t see anything but wishful thinking in that post of yours, there is absolutely no basis for that whole ups and downs thing…

the teams above us are just better, simple as that…

  83. Herkules

Chelsea are not better than Arsenal.
Spuds are not better than Arsenal.

Spuds might beat us out for third because of our horrible start – but once their confidence takes some bruising with a few losses here and there they will revert to their normal form.

You’re right – it might be wishful thinking – but for 14+ years it’s held true (that Arsenal find a way to finish top 4 and Spuds flounder when the pressure mounts)

  84. SUGA3

    Herkules,

for 14+ years we had a reasonable squad of players, this season, we only have a few top ones, some good ones and a whole load of dross…

as much as it pains me to say this, Sp*ds play football which would get us all salivating on here if it was us in their place, they actually play with pace and flair, you don’t see them going into the cunting cruise control tippy tappy mode!

Chelsea may be on par with us at the moment, but this will change in the course of this transfer window…

as for pointing out that Sp*ds flounder when the pressure mounts, you have to appreciate that it sounds a bit fucking rich coming from someone supporting a team that has been imploding like clockwork in the league run ins, cup finals and whenever there was an advantage to be gained in the course of the last few seasons!
