Another free transfer linked… gulp – Scudamore sides with wealth…shock – Arsenal winger to Gala

Gooooood morning Grove fans!

Ahh jeez, this is embarrassing. Le Grove back in its old clothes. We’re the slightly overweight middle aged blog, trying on a Paul Smith skinny fit suit around Christmas time, ripping a big hole in the ass and splitting the lining, having to go back home to slip into a pair of scuzzy joggers to return to the party.

Hey, it might not be stunning, but it’s home. So sorry for all the messing around. The site was down half the day yesterday, then it was split between two domains, now I’m mostly back on one. I’ve roped two professionals in from work to help me with the move next time. The new design will be opened parallel for beta testing. A party you’ll all be invited to join. When we know it all works, we’ll release it to the public. Hopefully it won’t balls up in such spectacular fashion.

Anyway, what do I have in my stocking for you today?

First up, I have a ‘who the f*ck?’ for you to unwrap. He goes by the name of Ederzito. The Metro has us down for his signature because he’s free, unknown and probably a load of rubbish. Not that I’m making a vague comparison to something we’ve done in the transfer market before. That would be mean. Anyway, he’s so well-known I can’t find any stats on him. So we’ll have to wait and see on that one.

In match day news, rumour has it the Wolves game could be cancelled due to train strikes. Not sure why they’re striking this time. They’re probably hacked off their staff stationary isn’t Mont Blanc or something. Regardless, I can’t say I’m that fussed. I’m not a massive fan of the boxing day hangover. It’s always far colder than normal, the crowd are always slightly more muted and I was probably going to have to miss it due to family commitments. So you know what Travel For London… you’re doing me a big fat favour.

Ha… Ha. Gutted.

Chesney has been in the press saying all the right things. Only a days after Robin said targeting 4th is silly, Chesney said the extent of his ambition is finishing above Spurs.

“Getting above Tottenham is the main target. We don’t want to finish below them no matter what.

“That’s just my personal ambition because I am one of the fans and so it means a lot to me to finish above them. I am confident we will do so.

You gotta love him. Someone said to me the other day the man can do no wrong, he lets in soft goals occasionally, drops crosses, but we still love him all the same. He’s like that badly behaved girlfriend who swans in and says all the right things.

‘Babe, where were you last night and why do you smell of expensive mens aftershave?’

‘Darling, I’ve bought you a 6 pack of Peroni and I Sky plussed MOTD2′

‘Sweet’

Our Polish number knows the value of great words. He also knows the value of great keeping. It’s been a long time since we’ve had no complaints about a number one. Even when Jens was in his prime, there were still question marks over his suitability. Not so with Chesney. That’s great news for stability because he’s probably the most important part of our spine. Success without a great keeper will always be a struggle.

The Premier League have told Arsene to shut the hell up and stop slagging off the new rich kids on the block.

“They cannot compete financially so they have to compete in other ways. Arsene Wenger has the talent, skill and nous to be able to do that.

“Arsenal have not exactly been shy in paying good wages and paying for players in the past.

“They have to cut their cloth accordingly. I’m sure that doesn’t mean they cannot compete for the title.”

He’s not wrong, we aren’t shy when it comes to paying good wages. Especially to the youth, however, I think comparing the two clubs and their ability to compete is a bit, well, rich. I’m pretty sure that competing for the title, no matter how skilled you are this year is nigh on impossible. Still, as long as they’re funneling attention onto the Premier League, our Richard won’t give a crap.

Wednesday’s game against Villa should be interesting. Gibbs is still out and JD is definitely out. It wasn’t a testicle problem. Save that for Scott Dann who ruptured his at the weekend. Quite possibly the sickest injury I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading about.

All take two minutes to settle your stomachs.

… and we’re back. So Our backline will shift one over again and I’d guess Miquel will slot in and takeover at left back. Not the shoddiest outcome.

The Villa game should be fairly routine. They’ve been awful all year. Who’d have guessed with such a visionary appointment for manager? We’ll still have to be aware that they have players who pose a threat. Darren Bent is still a superb finisher who has had the better of us on numerous occasions. Agbonlohor and Bannan are also tricky customers.

Still, if we play like we did at the weekend, 3 points should be forthcoming.

Finally, rumour has it that Andrey might be heading for the exit door in January. Galatasary are monitoring his situation and must be over joyed at their scouting reports so far. When I lived with my brother, we left an old telly outside the house. So cumbersome and bulky it took two of us to move it. It was broken, only made worse by the rain. We went to call a skip for it in the morning…but it was gone.

Now, I’m not suggesting we leave him outside London Colney wrapped in an Arsenal bow, but….

I’m pretty sure that wraps things up… see you in the comments, hopefully!

Kwik fit , going by wengers past experiences these last 6 years i believe its hope your hanging onto rather than any expectation that wenger will deliver in the transfer market or on the pitch (at top level). did you have the same feeling i had when you seen arshavin and shitmack coming on against city. i think alot of people know what feeling im talking about.

Goonermart, you summed it up perfectly
“we laughed when it was the other way round”

  2. kwik fit

Perhaps Jack it is hope but my hope has been founded not by Wenger but the fighting spirit the players have shown over the past few weeks. They seem to be playing as a team with spirit and determination and at last we appear to have a few leaders on the pitch. Wenger did get rid of some shit in the summer and yes there’s some more to go. But who want’s shit these day’s bar perhaps farmer’s. With some additions in January I’m hopeful we can continue to improve but at this point I feel it’s pointless going over the same old rhetoric .

but you are right about one thing, we used to go out with the attitude that the opposition can throw a kitchen sink at us and we will just laugh…

now it’s us who roll out two useless players to try and nick a win and the only player who still comes close is your best CB, funny that…

for the opposition fans, that is…

still, there were a few players who deserved better…

What are you lot on about, Wenger will soon be gone and we’ll be back to the glory days, we’re already playing 4 centre-backs and we’re over-reliant on one Striker.

Back to the Glory days boys.

  5. goonermart

If we bounce back with a convincing win at villa I will at least believe we do have the mental strength that was lacking last season

  6. jack

I believe that wenger has privately been considering his options after Arsenal, if we dont get top 4. And i think cesc and nasri leaving has brought that option closer IMO

    Unbelievable, Gibbs injury setback

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/dec/20/arsenal-loan-injury-kieran-gibbs

Arsene Wenger has begun to scout the loan market for a left-back after Kieran Gibbs suffered a setback in his recovery from hernia surgery to deepen Arsenal’s defensive crisis.

“Gibbs sees a specialist and if something happens there, that he has had a real setback, then possibly yes,” Wenger said, in answer to the question of an incoming January loan. “It is not a shop … you just take a good opportunity that is on the market when you can. Overall, that is what we are doing at the moment. We are starting to look at players if Gibbs is not back.”

Wayne Bridge on loan? do me a favour.

  8. dennisdamenace

Here’s an idea. Go buy Leighton Baines, and put that perma-crock Gibbs out on loan, and see if he can last a season somewhere else, Somewhere that doesn’t cost us!

  9. dennisdamenace

gg9 – I told everyone yesterday, that Geoff is in a dungeon with Diaby, and he has the Spud loving fucker tied up, hanging by his balls, whilst beating him with his stinking Spud shirt soaked in piss….

  10. goonermart

    Morning.

Leighton Baines sounds like a much better idea than the waste of space formally known as wayne bridge, so i doubt if that will happen DDM.

  11. Bade

    Goonermart,

We should try to get Vertonghen, he’s the ideal bargain

He’s a very good player in three much needed positions for us, LB, CB and DM …..

  12. Bade

Mancs and Scousers play tricky aways, Fulham and Wigan respectively. Expect them both to drop points tonight

So a win is more vital for us

Villa in there shittiest form for years, we have to take advantage

  13. Bade

    genarly,

If they do sign him, this will be another piss on us, as they claimed they don’t have significant funds when they swooped our skipper…

  14. Bade

I expect a big win tonight

Theo will have a field day

And it’s about time to see Yossi taking the creative role in the middle, with Arteta tracking to DM position

  15. Bade

How lovely is the LG we all known eh?

    Who needs the shiny-new look?
