Marvin Martin agrees release | Beer Sensation | Arteta and Benny Speak out

by & filed under Uncategorized.

So a real mixed bag on the site yesterday. Some saying I was too positive considering the obvious flaws in the squad, others saying I was too negative.

For me, the most interesting achievement of Wenger’s last minute dash was the injection of a new attitude. Work ethic is something you’re born with. It’s also something you can develop. We have a host of talented kids on our books. The easiest thing to do when people constantly praise you is to rest on your laurels.

Experienced heads keep precocious talent grounded. They lead by example, they set the standard and they pull players to one side when they’re not adherring to the unwritten code of team mate expectations.

Robin spoke of player meetings recently. Opening a dialogue for the players is a fantastic way to ensure accountability. It creates transparency, it highlights problems before they become habits and it gives the squad an outlet. The invincibles did it, but somewhere along the way it was lost in a haze of youth, I’m glad it’s been reinstated.

Talent only achieves with hard work. If the talent isn’t exceptional, hardwork and intelligence can get you through. Think of FC Porto (retrospectively exceptional). Think of Greece in the Euro’s. Think of United last season!

I think we have the required solid foundations to kick on. I’m not making predictions but I’d rather watch a group of experienced hard workers grind out one nils over a group of primaradonas who think they’ve made it bomb in embarrassing fashion every February.

Arteta and Benny Chat…

I enjoy listening to these two chat about football and our chances. Arteta sounds like a man intent on proving the world wrong. He’s been the big fish in the comfort zone of a little pond. Now he has to prove in 3 seasons he was always good enough. He loves the expectation and he loves the challenge. It sounds like he wants to take the lead.

Consider it welcome.

Yossi is the player fans are most sceptical of, but he’s the player who excites me most. Technically sound, unpredictable and not afraid to be direct. He looks like a slightly mental wild horse when he scampers round the pitch. If we keep him fit, you’ll see why a good player he is. He reckons he wasn’t a panic buy, from what I was told, our interest was real before deadline day, but so was that of Liverpool until Bellamy moved their! Regardless, he thinks Dortmund was a good point… Agreed, especially when United and City failed to turn over the inferior teams of Napoli and Benfica in their ties.

Branding…

Here is a pretty good article on the branding virtues of Juventus versus what we did at Arsenal. It basically states that we totally disrespected our clubs brand heritage when we tied up with the Emirates.

Marvin Martin…

Marvin has tied up a new deal with his club on the proviso he can leave next summer. Where? Arsenal obviously. He’s been described as an assist machine in some parts, he’s a fully fledged French international these days and he’s probably going to be ahead of Nasri in the pecking order. Oh and he’s 23.

He also comes equipped with a Winnie the Pooh fancy dress costume for Christmas Parties (God bless the ghost of Eboue). He also comes from a club I can’t spell or pronounce (Sochaux?).

Injury news…

We’re top of the injury league again. Can I get a woo hoo?

Ivan… Get on this… Instantly. Flipping genius. If it’s a spoof consider me had.

I put a plus for the output we should expect, that is, 23-25 goals from both of them

Freddie for all his work ethic didn’t score a whole lot from the right wing, Pires with that beautiful guile of his wasn’t exactly tearing up the top scores sheet, i expect between RvP (IF FIT) Gerv+Roadrunner to equal or exceed TH14+Pires+Freddie (TH14 always had the bulk of the goals for us) and add the odd wonder goals by our non-flying dutch master coming from God knows who…the current squad may be just a bit off…that’s been my whole argument all day

I’m not shitting on the great invincible squad, i’m hoping we can replicate what they did after a massive disgrace at Old Trafford season before they did that feat.

and quit shitting yourselve, NO player can Replace Henry, the heart, the talent, the love and the goals, NO player can do that for us, so look forward to what we’ve got right now and help Wenger think out of his head and not arse.

    ‘combined maybe…. Not as individuals!’

    doomday? naaah…

I am actually intending on getting behind the team, but I just don’t suffer bollocks gladly…

I am not expecting anything, so anything will be a bonus, if we play with the same application we had against Dortmund in every game, I will be a very happy man!

Nice to hear Cesc talking about the club, and not Wenger for a change. I still love Cesc. No qualms about his him moving on. He’s a top player who deserves to at an ambitious club with with other top players. Like Myles Palmer said, Cesc deserves to play with his friends Pique, Messi and Puyol… not Diaby, Rosicky and Chamakh.

sounded more like the head, -> with a case of mild retardation.

!what have i told you about exceeding the recommended dosage!?

the heart wouldn’t sound as pathetic ;)

“You have to consider that last year we were the best away team in the league, and Old Trafford was a one-off result,” he said.

“You cannot take that as a general rule, and what we have achieved over the last few years away from home is what people forget.

This is excatly the type of bullshit spin I hate reading about. I don’t want to complain about Wenger everyday, but he makes it hard not to. We haven’t won a trophy in ages and instead of condemning that, he always looks for loopholes and silver linings. You don’t get a star on the forehead for an away record, let alone a trophy. Stop bullshiting us Wenger and fight your way out of this disgraceful slump… You’re basically dragging us down with you! He tells us to forget about last season, but conviniently uses last season to vindicate his demented beliefs. Crazy man.

    Lurch,

I am ‘doing a 09/10 Cesc’ support wise, I am getting behind the team to see where it takes us…

I used to expect us to win every game, now it’s more of a case of hoping, before the Manure game I thought anything less than a 2 goal margin loss would be respectable…

Do you people consider that sometimes you need luck in football? Have you ever considered that Nasri is the unluckiest player known in world football? I was celebrating his transfer to City like crazy, for that’s where I wanted him to go. That guy has never lifted ANY trophy in his life, apart from individual accolades.
