Will Park start? | Mertesacker wouldn’t have signed if Vermaelen had stayed fit

by & filed under Uncategorized.

So after what feels like 16 weeks without football, we’re out the other end gearing up for a what I’m hoping will be a thrilling return to football. Swansea head on over, brimming with naive new team enthusiasm, whilst our squad turn up hoping to banish the demons of the Manchester United spanking they were served up a few weeks ago.

This is a big game for us. We need to show there is form without Cesc and Nasri. We need to pull ourselves together, gel quickly and get this season back on the road.

On the injury front, Rosicky is a doubt with a knee injury. We’re missing, Wilshere, Diaby, Ryo, Vermaelen, Squillaci, Song, Gervinho, and Jenkinson.

So, that gives me the task of picking out a side I have, in the main, never seen before!

Chezzer

Sagna Mertesacker Koscielny Gibbs

Frimpong Arteta Benayoun

Arshavin Robin Theo

It really is too tough to call.I’m not sure where I see him playing Benayoun. From memory, he plays very well just in the hole. Will he elect for Arshavin when he’s in such dire form, or will he slip Park in there (he must be available if he’s not listed as otherwise on the site)? I’m not even sure he’ll play the same system he has been. From the stats, we know Arteta creates plenty of chances, but enough to replace Cesc’s vision? I’m not so sure. Either way it’s going to be interesting!

I think I’m most excited to see how Mertesacker slots into the side. How dominant can he be in the penalty box? How quickly will he take control of what we’re doing at the back? I think he’ll compliment the pace and attacking style of Koscielny, but he really does need to make sure he leads on marking and organising. We’ve got 3 players in that back line who have an aversion to talking to each other.

In the middle, I have no worries about Frimpong getting sent off today. The game isn’t intense enough. This is a good chance for him to get his positioning in order. Robin and Theo could have a field day out there. I’m sure we’ll see plenty of the Englishman cutting inside and using his pace to burn Swansea’s green back 4.

Wenger…

The coach was in a chatty mood yesterday, he reckons he could write a book about the summer he’s just had and he says it was more difficult than we imagine. From what I gather, he’s referring to the fact that we were hardballed by both City and Barcelona. They forced the transfers to take as long as they did by not offering what we wanted by a long shot from the start. Now, I can understand us waiting it out for Samir as that was an important deal to force through. I still don’t understand why we were in a situation where we couldn’t have taken more control with Barcelona.

‘It’s like in a company. When you’re half-in and half-out, it’s not as good as if you’re complete in. That happened at the start of the season.’

A very true statement. I’m not sure I’d want to be going into the season with a massively unhappy captain, we’ve seen first hand what that’s done for Spurs. At the same time though, I’m not happy Barcelona are telling the world they landed a great deal. It’s a touch embarrassing that we were out haggled when the power resided with us.

I find Wenger’s insistence that he couldn’t sign players before the last 24 hours a bit strained as well. Hardly any of the reasons made sense. He claims that he could only move late on Park and Santos when he knew Traore and Nik B were leaving. Why? Neither signing raised any sort of substantial revenue. He knew both were going all summer. Why couldn’t Park and Santos have been picked up early in the season? The most interesting part was what I told you the other day about the Vermaelen injury…

‘I knew as well that Vermaelen would have surgery the week before Manchester United so we needed to buy a centre-back.’

It’s unbelievable that Wenger would have gone into the next three months without a new centre back if TV hadn’t picked up a new injury. We were all sitting there wondering if Wenger would rue the mistake not to sign Cahill, instead he sits there and tells us Mertesacker was the response to the problem! Unbelievable really. He had no intention of improving the defence this summer.

‘Of course I’m not the only one who controls things [in this situation]. It’s the clubs who buy, the players as well, the determination of the players, because they change sometimes their mind as well.’

The above point was also interesting. One would assume our constant dithering on salaries and fees is the coaches reference point. As far as I’m aware, Alvarez and Mata were down to our cock ups and as we’ve reported before, flapping around in January is what cost us Phil Jones. I was also party to a very amusing story about another one of our transfer ‘nearly’ cock ups for a certain young player that I’ll tell you if ever join me for a pre-match beer.

Lessons need to be learnt this summer. A review of what went wrong and why it went wrong needs to be conducted so the board don’t make the same mistakes next season. It doesn’t happen at other clubs in the main and it shouldn’t be happening at ours. We also need to review how these contract problems keep happening to us. How many more players are we going to allow into their last year before we start tackling it? Remember, Theo, Robin, Song and Vermaelen could all find themselves in Nasri’s situation next summer. 60% of our outfield starting line up could be gone in a year. Not good.

Comments section…

The season is well underway now, the excitement of the window is behind us, so I’d like to take a few sentences to remind people that the comments section of Le Grove is probably one of most read in the Arsenal blogosphere, generally because the views that are expressed back and forth are interesting and well thought out.

I meet people out who tell me they watch the comments all day. The Grover’s who post are of huge importance to the ongoing success as a blog, some of you have been dropping regular comments for the full four years. Now, some of the comments have been getting out of hand lately, the comments section is not a free for all. Please remember you are in a public arena and think about what you post. Have an opinion by all means, just don’t lower the tone. It’s a football forum, keep it about Arsenal, save you slurs for the opposition. I see you all as friends, the last thing I want to do is stop people enjoying themselves on the site…

Support today…

First game of September is today, I’m excited, you’re excited, the new players will be nervous. Lets put on a great show and a massive two fingers up to Samir Nasri… let’s tear the roof off the ground and forget the past 3 months. There’s a real sense of renewed hope. We’ve got experience, we’ve got some class in and for me, the only way is forward!

Suga3 – Mate at some point he’s going to fuck up and people are going to slate the shit out of him for no reason, I’m just tired of having to tell everyone that it’s just one mistake, he’ll recover.

He had a decent game nothing special, tried to be pre-emptive, came well for a few crosses, then tried to punch one from a corner, and completely fucked it up.

  2. SUGA3

    DS,

I think the fans wanted to give our lads the best possible chance to crawl over the line with 1:0 intact ;)

as for the referee, what a fucking wanker!

  3. MARK GOONER

rvp up top in a three does not work

had we spent the money we could have had a world class forward playing up top with him and that way he can do what he is best at and make the goals

  4. SUGA3

    Keyser,

Szczesny is a completely different animal from the likes of Almunia or Fabianski, he oozes confidence, you should have seen him play for Poland against ze Germans, which was his first game after that mauling at Old Toilet…

lad has great attitude, he will definitely learn from this, simple as…

  5. bade the gooner (bernard)

the most depressing thing about this season, is the knowledge in advance, that we conceded winning any trophy. we all know we don’t have the quality to win any trophy. we have the same ambitions as everton’s, villa’s and sunderland’s!!!!

  6. MARK GOONER

    criticising schezney is bollocks

yes he messed up and got out of jail at the end, but he is a top draw keeper and does many more things right then wrong

the creative side of things is where we really lack top quality

  7. Keyser

Confidence counts for little in today’s game, look at Bendtner, He’s only what 20 ? A few mistakes and I don’t want his confidence completely shot.

  8. leon

i did watch the match but i see it as worling progress.i did not think the new signings would make an immediate impact but i have always said for use to realy have a shot at the prem he still needs o clear some dead wood like aa risicky chamakh diaby daiby and sculacci

  9. gambon

Lol Suga dont bother. Keyser will always disagree with anything thats said. Hes the most pointless person anywhere on the planet.

If youd said “Szczesny was poor” he wouldve said “hes the best GK in the PL and was immense today”.

  10. SUGA3

    Keyser,

sooo, what are you suggesting, that we should buy a GK? no, wait, maybe we should play that shitcunt Fannyanski instead?

one who would be enough of an improvement to be worth the bother would set us back £15M+, I would rather put this money towards buying a striker or wide right player…

sorry dude, but you are on your own…

  11. bade the gooner (bernard)

pathetic people criticising chesney, when he’s our only solid element on our shattered team, screaming for quality in defence, midfield and attack

  12. Keyser

Suga3 – You said he’s turning into a monster of a keeper you pleb, it’s fucking Swansea and he nearly cost us two points.

  13. incesc

    oh yeah at the end

    :)

think hes a terrific keeper, but stil youg so these things happen

our last keeper fabicuntsi once through the ball in his own net.

    :)

  14. gambon

    Dial

I take it back, at least you have an opinion, rather than just pointlessly arguing with every post made like this cunt does.

  15. bade the gooner (bernard)

    suga3,

we’re going to be in the same zone bendtner will be this season

we are utter shite…. how can arsenal be so poor squad?

  16. incesc

i hope santos is good because gibbs is no way ready.

he is crap, cant believe people talk about him as an england left back at the moment.

a lot of work for him to do

  17. SUGA3

    bade,

nah, I think we will come good…

    Keyser,

and one more thing: you are nothing but a common troll, because you just have a different opinion (haha) for the sake of it, ffs…

  18. incesc

also apparently mata was great today

if we are going to be pussies and pull out of these deals at the last moment we shouldnt go in for them at all.

all we did was alert chelsea that he existed.

  19. SUGA3

    incesc,

second that, in fact, our whole British contingent had a mare today…

Walcott is just uber gash, as far as I am concerned, he can just piss off…

and Ramsey? anyone who thinks he is a capable replacement for Cesc needs to get their eyesight and psyche checked…

  20. bade the gooner (bernard)

maybe the boys will come good, but we won’t near CL ticket…..

we look totally shite….. i just feel sorry for jack

  21. incesc

i think ramsey might end up quite a tidy player actually

but hes played non stop this season after not playing top level footie for a long time.

its a huge ask on a young player by our shitty manager as usual.

  22. sinjin88

“arsenal now av ze qualidee to challenge in ze championship…”

walcott is just about the dumbest millionaire footballer around. ramsey out of his depth. wenger has run out of ideas tactically… it was swansea gift got the goal… this could be a long long long season

  23. SUGA3

we broke away in numbers, all that was needed was a minimum bit of vision and quick thinking, but Ramsey somehow managed to lose the fucking ball!

I know he is a tidy player, but IMO, he had a very poor game today…

  24. Keyser

I did, I said there’s some pleb from Le Grove talking shit.

    She said ‘Who ?’

    I said ‘Suga3′

She said ‘Not that mug who things Senderos wasn’t given a chance ? Massive pleb’.

  25. Dial Square

Shame i liked her blogging. I for one feel sorry for Walcott he clearly is noy a winger but OGL persists in playing him there.

  26. Keyser

Ramsay played both games for Wales, think he was just knackered by the end, thing is we’re going to have to be up for Dortmund again on Tuesday.

  27. bade the gooner (bernard)

i bet they were watching us today and shivering …. they know with our current form we’re gonna slaughter them, no question on that eh?

  28. SharkeySure

Hey Sug pleasure to meet you too today.

Shame you and Pedro didn’t have some of the real nutters out with you today.

    I’ll leave it there

  29. SUGA3

    Sharkey,

yep, I had a jolly good time too!

these beers certainly helped me to get through the game, I woke up with a mother of all hangovers today

drinking a whole bottle of JB = bad idea…

  30. bade the gooner (bernard)

    unbelievable!!!!

    amazing!!!!!!

    true grit from djoko

coming from 2 sets behind, then saving 2 match points when trailing 5-3 and cruising through the win with 4 consecutive games!!!!

    bravo

  31. MARK GOONER

our midfield is average without jack
    our defence also without vermaelen
and rvp needs to play ina 4-4-2 or just behind a striker
id even play park there and give it a try

    ___________schezney
    sagna mertesacker vermaelen gibbs
    _______ramsey wilshere
    gervinho van persie arshavin
    ____________park

  32. Yandi

Arteta was made for Arsenal. Such an inteligent player. Oozes class. Now to surround him with good quality. I find it tragic that Ramsey and Frimpong (never mind Coquelin) are starting for us this season. They were nowhere near starting consistently for the first team last season. They never even forced their way through the team on merit. Wenger just basically handed them the baton and threw them into the deep end, and they’re showing their level. They’re mostly all over the show during a game. Arteta didn’t know what had hit him when he looked around in midfield. He was surrounded by two novices.

Interesting that Frimpong gave an Alex Song performance today, and nobody even noticed it. He was awful.

    sug,

rambo wasn’t and isn’t supposed to be cesc replacement ….
    ————————————————
Well, what the fuck is he supposed to be then? He can’t attack. He can’t hold onto possesion. He’s mostly all over the show when the opposition is attacking. He can’t tackle. The most meaningful thing he’s done for Arsenal this season was this…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpwjKxFZ3VY&feature=related

and alas it was for the opposition.

Denilson 2.1 basically. Again, what the fuck does he do bade???

  34. roaaary

I just got back from the game. i dont get the opportunity to go to many and it is really interesting to watch the players body language when you are there.

Arshavin was shocking. okay he scored but that was because he was too lay to get back into position. wont happen too many times. he let down gibbs, kept strolling central because he was knackered and was just so SLOW. Never seen a player deteriorate so quickly.

Mertersacker was a sackashit in the air. the lads 6″6 or whatever and doesnt dominate in the air. he looked slow and will cause us problems. he did make some very important blocks though.
Arteta was great, he played a little too deep though but helped build attacks and is a fantastic addition. Again Benayoun looked energetic, up for it and classy on the ball.

I was dissappointed that wenger brought rvp off for chamakh and not park who was on form this week. also surprised frimpong got hauled off for coquelin as i thought he added power to our midfield. supplied a number of poor passes though.

I think the biggest thing from today is that our tactics dont work with this new team……we need to be more direct and less of the tippy tappy shit around the area. we dont have the genius anymore to open up defenses in those situations.

All round we were extremely lucky but 3 points needed

  35. zeus

    Yandi

FFS!! I go away for 3 hours and tour still on Ramsey’s case. It’s as if you have a personal vendetta.

He is more a Gerrard type. Long range screamers, good engine, HE CAN TACKLE and better than average technical ability to pick a pass.

Is he meant to be Cesc’s replacement? No. There was some hope inside the Arsenal camp that he would be such a player when he first arrived, but as I said earlier, he is not even a Wilshere. There is a technical drop off from Wilshere to Ramsey.

(I hope Wilshere is watching Cesc and Scholes DVDs in his time off)

Anyway, he isn’t a dud, so lay off.

  36. Yandi

Walcott is a fucking pleb. Truly shocking player. But I can see why he’s get’s played. He doesn’t do it consistently, but you know that at some point he might just give that vital contribution with his pace. Good to see Arshavin put in a decent shift today. It’s a fucking start at least. He looked lively and our most creative player. Arteta, Arshavin and Szcesney my better performers. The rest were absolute garbage

  37. zeus

Arshavin was shocking. okay he scored but that was because he was too lay to get back into position. wont happen too many times. he let down gibbs, kept strolling central because he was knackered and was just so SLOW. Never seen a player deteriorate so quickly.
    **********

    Hahahahahahahahaha.

I don’t even know how to respond to that. I’m no Arshavin fan, but are we seriously going to start slaying players for scoring. U realize thats the whole fucking point right.

We don’t do it very often anymore, but it hasn’t been that long to make u forget has it?

  38. incesc

    agreed zeus

ramsey will never be cesc but cesc will win everything in the game and probably captain barce and spain

    once in a lifetime player.

ramsey is a quality worker in midfield with a good eye for a pass and someone who gets his head up and plays.

    the flamini to wilsheres cesc…

i like ramsey, hes a lot better than denilson and will be a great premier ship player. Imagine him in 3 years if wenger doesnt sell him

  39. Doublegooner

Today just confirmed Wenger is a clueless has been manager

With him, Gazidas Kronke the wilderness years are well & truly upon us.

    Wenger Out

Kronke FUCK OFF & SELL UP

  40. Yandi

    zeus

He’s a Gerrard type??? Lol, what!? He plays like a sack of shit for weeks now, and he get’s excused for not actually being compentent because he’s a fucking Gerrard type and “can’t possibly replace Cesc”? He plays nothing like Gerrard! Maybe in a weird parallel universe he does.. This one? Not a fucking chance! I’ve seen Diaby put in better shifts than Ramsey, and he’s supposedly shit.

  41. incesc

you cant expect a young lad to come in and dominate, but what he does at the moment for me is great

    look at lampard.

he wasnt amazing compared to the greats that were in the league when he excelled but i think ramsey can emulate that.

  42. gazzap

Just about everything wenger does tactically doesn’t work. RVP in a front 3 does not work. Arshavin on the left wing doesn’t work, Theo on the right doesn’t work. Ramsey as attacking mid doesn’t work. A midfield 3 in front of the back 4 doesn’t work. Tactically we are awful. he plays players out of position constantly and it means there are no partnerships anywhere on the pitch. Team play completely relies on partnerships, and trust. there is nothing, no communication, no understanding. Its not to do with the players. The talent and quality are all in the squad. Wenger for me, cannot manage a football team. If you had told me this in 2005, i’d have said you were mad. I dont know how he has got it so wrong for so long.

  43. Yandi

    Doublegooner

Wenger’s got away with murder this year… never the previous 5 years before that. He shows shocking incompetence time-after-time and get’s away from it without a fucking smudge. How does he sleep at night??? A c*nt of the highest order.

  44. incesc

we havent looked like a team for ages have we gazzap

man for man we arent miles behind united but as a team its lightyears

  45. SUGA3

Arsene on why Chamakh put the armband on when he replaced RvP “He looked around and couldn’t find anyone [to give it to]”

you have got to be fucking kidding me…

  46. roaaary

zeus, a player can score and have a shit game. arsha did. he got out paced so many times when he should have broken free. his positional player was poor to say the least. he didn help the left back at all leading them to bully gibbs who worked his socks off.

The goal was lucky and im not sayin he is crap for scoring or sayin he shouldnt im just saying he is shit as a wide man. maybe a central attackin midfielder, but not a left winger. useless.would have loved to see yossi from the start.

and ramsey does let the game pass him for large parts but he is gaining experience and learning his positions. he will grow throughout the season and needs to get a few lucky breaks. poor shot at the start of the match though

  47. gazzap

Why are us Arsenal fans such pussies? So fucking scared to speak up against the manager/board. In arsene we trust flags still up in the stadium. so many fans are unhappy but they dont say anything, just carry on like sheep. It cant improve unless we speak up.

today’s protest was called off. I wasn’t there, but was there any sort of gathering?

  48. roaaary

oh and further more after the match i spoke to a friend of mine who works within the club. he told me there has been a massive fall out between wenger and the board. he said the money IS THERE! Wenger wont spend it. he told me we are 50-70 million up this summer. his sales go into a pot along with player sales for player recruitment and wenger refuses to use it!

    ——————————————————
Well, I also thought the same about Denilson back in 2007. 3 years later he was getting outrun by a fucking referee. Ditto Alex Song. And Diaby, who was the new Vieira. Now Ramsey is the new Gerrard…

    When will people learn?

  51. incesc

denilson had one good game in the carling cup and from then on all anyone could say about him is he had good stats

ramsey isnt ready, in a perfect non wenger world we would have bought the players to replace cesc and nasri and bought arteta and mertsesacker 2 years ago

but sadly we still have that idiot in charge and ramsey has been chucked in

hes twice the player denilson ever was. i hope he kicks on and proves you wrong

  52. Yandi

I remember watching a similar performance vs Wolves back in 2010. In the end we won 1-0 with a late Nicklas Bendtner goal. I thought at the time “”We have Cesc, van Persie and numerous other quality players out today. It’s not as bad as it looks. A win is a win”. Today I’m thinking “This is actually as good as it’s gonna get”. I don’t understand how Wenger expects Jack Wilshere, however talented he, is is supposed to change the midfiled dynamic of the team throughout the season. He’s only 19! He’s only playing in his second full season in the top flight ffs! So this will be the shit on display everytime he’s out? What a shithole we’re in. It’s like fucking quicksand. We’re sinking fast.

  53. Doublegooner

Withe exception of Chesney & RVP, what players would get into any other top side ?

    How we have fallen.

Arsene, your project has left us abject.

  54. Yandi

Bet you’re enjoying every minute of that Arse&Nose©, aren’t you? So that you can finally get to vindicate Wenger. You’ve probabaly waited for this moment ever since that tight old c*nt refused to pay above 5m for Cahill. Well, there you have it then! For you and yours (Wenger)…

  55. Arse&Nose©

Yes I enjoyed it because cahill is over rated. Look at how many times bolton have lost by mor than 3 goals and you will see a catalogue of cahill errors.
Why does this upset you yandi?

  56. Arse&Nose©

Henderson is consistently outshone by lansbury at u21 level. Another over rated english player . Yandi, should we have bought him for 20m?

  57. incesc

seeing bender for sunderland is hilarious

he could have played in the champions league this week as a sub but instead hes at sunderland

    wanker

  58. Yandi

    incesc

Denilson had a good game at Chelsea back in 2008 when we won 2-1. He was also great at Roma in the CL. He had a decent start to the 09/10 season. And he was good at City last season when we won 3-0. He’s had a few decent games. Ultimatetly he was shit though. I don’t want to see Ramsey being spared critisism. For as long as he plays football, he’ll get judged. If he gives a shit performances, he should get stick.

I don’t see what the hype is all about.

  59. OPG

I mean in the other game Stoke vs Pool.
One game doesn’t prove a point doesn’t matter to us anyway.

Bendtner didn’t score today as some expected or hoped!

  60. Keyser

Yandi – Is there a particular player you like that gets criticised ? and you just want re-address the balance ?!

Do you feel because he’s white or British he gets a pass ?!

  61. gazzap

If that touch by Bendtner was intentional it was world class. But I think he was actually trying to bring it down for himself. wanker.

  62. Keyser

Haha their moaning about Gyan moving for money ? It’d be hilarious if all the top players just started going off to random leagues around the World.

  63. incesc

bruce slated hes agents for being greedy just before the move keyser

kinda indicative of the modern player…

    ££££££

  64. Arse&Nose©

Hypocrisy from motd pundits, they say nothing when rooney had a hissy fit over money, or terry the year before, or gerrard the year before that!

  65. zeus

    Fine Yandi

Maybe not a Gerrard type. Couldn’t think of a player who could has decent technique, can shoot from distance, and score a few goals. Add good engine to the list.

This Diaby comparison off though. He IS SHIT.

  66. Arse&Nose©

Text book library comment about arsenal fans from motd commentator there, was he even there? The crowd were fantastic today! Never a fucking mention when our fans out sing man utd fans at old trafford every season!

  67. Arse&Nose©

How predictable, a montage of the germans mistakes!

You know I have no problem with having a slow defender, I can’t remember us having a decent defence without a slow defender. Iys better that we have proper defenders instead of speed merchants who rely on the offside trap

  68. SUGA3

just saw that Koscielny tackle, for which he got booked…

wagging his finger, what the fuck was he thinking? chopped his man down, studs up, perhaps he was begging for the card to be just a yellow?

  69. Stu

Agreed A&N, fast defenders that cant defend got us nowhere. Push the line back 10 yards and go back to counter attacking. Having defenders run forward in open play when we arent 5 goals up is just madness.

  70. Radio Raheem

Haha their moaning about Gyan moving for money ? It’d be hilarious if all the top players just started going off to random leagues around the World.

This has been happening for a while. Eto’o? Zhirkov? Djorkaeff? Okocka? Beckham? and all the other pros coming to the end of their careers that chose to play in the Middle East, Japan or the US…come to think of it they are just like other expatriate professionals who relocate to other parts of the world where pay is more favourable. You might want to try techies relocating to the Silicon Valley or bankers moving to the City or New York…

It’ll be best if the guys on motd only talked about football and nothing else. Even Linekar presents the CL on an Arab channel, the mug.

Steve Bruce is only trying to deflect attention from his shit start to the season. What an average manager he is. No one knows Gyan’s side to the story just like no one knows Wayne Bridge’s side of the story.

Today’s game had a bit of mixed feelings…but i guess we can write it off as down to new team and International week blues.

Arteta, Szczesny, Arshavin, Benayoun, Gibbs at times, Chamakhs’s header, Koscielny’s god job alongside Per, Sagna’s usual solidity…these were the live wires of the game

RvP is either depressed for a lack of Cesc and Na$ri, or he was tired of scoring all those goals for Holland….

Walcott was woeful today, even Arshavin had to talk sense into his head…can you believe AA23 had to call Walcott out?? I mean Arshavin worked harder than Walcott who seemed like he was auditioning for Barca, falling and calling the ref every second.

I like Ramsey, but lets be real, he hasn’t been good enough since Newcastle, his movement and decision making have been poor for Arsenal. He is playing in the main engine room of the midfield, and our whole game has tanked cause of him. I was hoping to see Arteta run the show. I’m holding out faith that he’ll come good as promised, otherwise, I’m starting to think he’s the usual British hype Wilshere isn’t. Diaby, on a good day would have made us proud.

I was arguing with a few on here yesterday about Song\Frimpong….till you lot get it, Song is a much more better defensive midfielder at the moment, and without him, we don’t play too well. Frimpong may get there, but this season, we need Song.

Chamakh’s little cameo header reminds me why we were excited about him, that cros from Gibbs was quality…Sagna, take lessons son!

Arteta was restrained in a holding role, I’d like to see him as the main play maker. Tidy..

Mertesacker and Koscielny were solid, shows Kos is a very quality defender, his tackles were on point, bar the one clatter (Caused by Frimpong losing his man) He played well. Per wasn’t really as dominant in the air, but tidy.

Szczesny is way better than De Gea, and he didn’t cost £18m, but he does need to pipe down the eccentric play. He gets too animated and loses focus.

Yossi showed why he may be a tad bit better than Rosicky for us, a bit too energetic for Ramsey, who slows down the game sometimes.

Coquelin was alright, I’m wondering if we’ll keep him cause Song, Frimpong are away at ACN, he’d need to learn fast and play smart. I think he needs to handle a whole game in the Carling cup before January.

I was hoping for a 3 goal win, but I’d take the 3 points and 1 goal.

i agree we need to change our style of play. defend deep and make the opponent try and play footy instead of putting their players ridiculously deep. mertersacker is so slow though and was really poor in the air. to be fair he made some great blocks and does read the game well. big bonus. put him next to vermaelen and he will look better. koza makes the best look nervous
