Wenger press conference: The beginning of the end I’m afraid

by & filed under Uncategorized.

‘I hope for a swift end to the transfers’

Perhaps Arsene you should have been a bit more forceful about that months ago. Losing your two best players the day before the season starts is nothing short of an embarrassing disaster.

How could drama like this be allowed to roll on and on in such fashion? How are we on the eve of the season three first team players down… Progress? More like the sad beginning of the end for Arsene Wenger.

There are two options here, he either goes out and signs 5 players before the end of the window. Those being a striker, 3 midfielders of note and a centre back. The he prays to the footballing gods they gel and adapt. Or he doesn’t do that and the season collapses because we’re under experienced and under equipped.

We’re hoping for a miracle here. How many squads could deal with a morale sapping situation like the one we’re in? Even with our best players in the side we lacked direction and leadership. Now we’re hoping Jadson and Mata can come in and pick up where Sammy and Cesc left off? What an expectation…

I do sympathise with Wenger in a way. Only in the sense that he’s the rich geeky kid at school who announces a party on Facebook at his Dads mansion, that  is well attended but as soon as the attendees have had drunk all the booze and eaten all the food they wreck the place and leave for the next bigger and better party.

When Wenger set up his master vision for project youth, he forgot a few things… Trophies and money. If you lure kids in on the promise of riches, don’t be surprised when they leave you for the same things. Don’t expect to command loyalty when disloyalty is the very first thing you encourage them to do.

It’s a sorry state of affairs but we’re now in a situation where we’re not an attractive proposition to overseas players. We’ve missed out on countless targets and to the outside eye, we’re a shambles.

I’d love Wenger to get this right but Le Grove has had 4 years of people telling us we’d rue our words. We’ve been told for god knows how long Cesc would lead us to a ten year stretch of dominance, now we’re at the point where he’s on the verge of greatness…. He’s taken a pay cut and run… for £29million. Less than Andy f*cking Carroll… what an absolute joke.

Those two will go now, Theo and Robin will likely follow suit next summer… Then where are we?

Even our sustainable model is under threat. What is the point of it all if you can’t compete on salaries or transfer fees? We’ll end this week as the most organically cash rich club in the world. The 18th lowest net spenders in the league. Marvellous… what an achievement. Still, on the plus side, that gives the next manager a great opportunity to add more to the plans than great foundations and a good balance sheet.

The Wenger philosophy has taken an arrow to the chest, I just hope it doesn’t go septic before it’s killed off.

Team News for Newacastle…

Good news is that out of the squad that does want to stay, many of them have returned to fitness. We should have Robin, Theo, Arshavin, Ramsey, Gibbs and Vermaelen. That should be enough to take on the might of Newcastle, a team that effectively ended out chances last year in that horrible 4-4 draw.

Here’s hoping eh?

Wenger Prezzer Pearlers

‘We are full of confidence, ambition and desire to do well’

Oxlade-Chamberlain has “exceptional quality and we feel he is a big talent for the future

“Fabregas in the squad. Nasri not certainly in the squad. He has had a sickness. No other issue”

‘I expect nobody to leave the club’ (What about this quick resolution?)

“We have enough quality to deal with whatever situation we decide”

“Manchester United sold Ronaldo. Does that mean they are not a big club?” (‘If we sell our best players, we are not a big club’ 2 weeks ago)

“There are 2 markets. One internal and one external. The one internal is the promotion of young players.”

“I have not been disappointed by attitude of Cesc or Nasri. They have been professional”

Wenger on signing players ‘it’s not as easy as people think it is’

‘At the moment we have a big squad … We are not short of players’

… make of that what your will.

That was our 1500th post. Thanks for all the support you’ve given the site over the past four years and thanks for continuing to drop by everyday!

I remember the Buddhist Monk doing it to protest the Vietnam War I think ? Maybe I’ll look into what he used.

Na I doft my cap to the authors here, best sense of humour in the arse blogosphere, I look forward to it like I used to look forward to a new edition of MAD comic.

    EXACTLY MY FEELINGS PEDRO.

WENGER AS WELL AS RUNNING HIS THIN FINGERS THROUGH EVERYTHING AT THE ARSENAL, HAS NOW ACHIEVED THE NEW POSITION OF HEAD BULLSHITTER AFC.

HIS COMMENTS MAKE US CRINGE AND OTHER CLUBS LAUGH.

AS IF TO BACK HIM UP AS HEAD BS, IT MIGHT BE WORTH A LOOK AT THE DREADED ARSENAL .COM SITE.

THE PEOPLE? THAT RUN THIS THINK EVERY SUPPORTER (AND FANATIC) MUST BE TWELVE YEARS OLD. NO COMMENTS ON THE FACT THAT TWO SKILLED PLAYERS ARE TO LEAVE THE CLUB ON THE EVE OF THE SEASON.

ITS ALWAYS HAPPY HOUR IN HOTEL ARSENAL.

WHICH REMINDS ME… PEDRO GET STUCK INTO SOME REAL BEER. HEY PEDRO – LEAVE THAT STUFF ALONE

  5. CedarBayDave

Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign young Costa Rican striker Joel Campbell for around £1million.

I hope that does not qualify as the reinvestment of the new funds…

  6. GuNNeR

THE GREAT SAMIR NASRI  MANAGED TO PROVIDE (1)–ONE, YES O.N.E. ASSIST LAST SEASON!!! WTF!!..YEAH…SELL THIS NARCISSISTIC, UNGRATEFUL CLOWN NOW!!!!!!!!!

  7. Lurch LeRouge

I went to a fancy dress as Spiderman and shagged a girl dressed as Catwoman. We had the most amazing sex, but never revealed our identities to one another.

I told my family about it over breakfast. My dad high-fived me, my mum rolled her eyes and my sister ran off crying for some reason.

That man is a legend, sums up how a lot of fans feel at the moment.

  9. OPG

£1m is out of our own pocket but the lack of strengthening with more proven quality other than Gervinho is concerning and we have to bring in some replacements for Cesc and Nasri most likely..

  10. Yandi

    Lol gambon

3 More Teenagers in the first team in a space of 5 days. All in a week’s work for Wenger. To be fair to him though, we all love to put a piece of ourselves in the work we get paid to do and Arsene’s just doing the same really. He combines his favourite past-time with the player recruitment he’s supposed to do for Arsenal.

  11. (bernard) bade the gooner

    wow,
as much as you listen to the piece of gunnerblog about stan, you realise how truly legendary it is…. ffs it’s even better than the original stan!!!!

    he stan, got it?

    SACK ARSENE!
    THE JUDGMENT MAY BRIGADE

  12. frenchie

    lurch-

i thought sending vela to brom was the signal…why he isnt on the block is beyond my comprehension. oh, that is right, he likey has high wages as well.

  13. Yandi

    Lurch

That statement just encapsulates Wenger in a nutshell. He’s clearly gone kiddy-crazy. 19 year old Campbell replaces 22 year old Vela. Where does it all stop? If Wenger was President of the UN, his board would be filled with teenagers, African Formula One drivers and Kid musicians

What a twat. Hey Wenger, Leave Them kids alone!

  14. frenchie

    yandi-

from what i understand, the vela situation has more to do with not realizing potential because someone likes his clublife a bit more than training than it does with a manager who likes teenagers.

  15. Lurch LeRouge

Frenchie I suspect our intentions were liken-able to JW to Bolton for the WBA loan, give him prem experience for our benefit, this kid will be the final straw I think, although we’re accepting offers on snoop dawg so perhaps its here that the comparison is more appropriate.

  16. Trickygonner

    I can change my job,
    I can change my house,
    I can change my wife,
I can even change my mates.
But I can’t change my club.
What has been done to our Arsenal?
    My heart is broken.
    My faith destroyed. 
    I’ve nothing left. 
    RIP Arsenal FC. 

  17. Lurch LeRouge

    stadium even,

although standium has its appeal, it’d certainly get me back at the ems more regularly.

  18. frenchie

yeah, lurch, think he has just worn out his welcome. too bad arsene did not handle the careers of other “quality” players in a similar manner.

  19. zeus

Official: Arsenal agree deal to sign Costa Rica starlet Joel Campbell

19-year-old striker moves from Deportivo Saprissa and featured in this summer’s Under-20 World Cup where he scored two goals in four games.
    ****************

    Sweet sweet comfort.

  20. Hitman

‘Agree terms subject to formalities’. WTF. This is an un-Arsenal like announcement. AFC only inform of signings when 100% complete.

Desperate smoke and mirrors ploy from Pravda.com to deflect attention from the bad news coming through.

    Pathetic really.

Having said that there is something about this kid. Not your usual wannabe deadwood. Appeaars to have real talent. But I’ve only seen a feew clips. But sometimes that enough to know.

  21. SUGA3

oh well, I heard these bad news, was just asking about Pams and sauces

I’m having myself a quiet Friday after a hell of a Wed and Thu, how is you?

  22. DeiseGooner

Hitman – supposedly Campbell and his club will be announcing it this AM UK time so its just arse.com reporting it before they do. How often do we complain when it happens the other way and now we complain again when the amateurs running the site get there first. Cynical baxtard ;)

  23. Pasman

don’t know why I never got into cypress hill, listened to krs 1, nwa, craig mark, queen latifah, down to snoop of the early 90s and stopped listening to rap after 97. my question is where in london can i find polish girls from krakow Suga?

  24. Hitman

I do think there is something in this AW vs Silent Stan standoff.

AW looked very gaunt ( well more than he usually does).

I think Stan’s told him whose boss and ordered sale of Nasri.

  25. BillikenGooner

Losing Nasri and Cesc… as old men at 23-24.. and bringing in a handful off teenagers must mean our average age is somewhere close to 21.

Woohoo… Arsenal, first club to field an U-21 team in the PL?

  26. matt

Sorry if this has laready been posted on here. Just seen Wengers press conference from earlier when he was asked about Cesc leaving.

Fucking stupid grin on his face and he says he doesnt expect anyone to leave. Is nobody concerned about the mental state of this man??

  27. matt

Its a bit of both I think. That look is definitely him thinking he is smarter than everyone else in the room.

I really, really dont get his mentality anymore. You think it cant get any more bizarre but it does.

  28. Lurch LeRouge

im alright mate, my clients at the moment are in sanfransisco I wanna go play but their being complete dicks and i fancy a couple tequilas and a margaritta, but its only half one over there, argggghhhhh!

  29. james

you lot are so naive its incredible, ok i agree wenger does seem to have lost it when he talks to the press he seems to go round in circles for some reason and seems to have lost his tactical flair of bygone years :b?

Buying players is a risk i mean look at liverpool they spent god knows how much on signing players like skertl lucas babel dossena and rossi and look where it got them.

I cant believe you class nasri as an important first team player after hes had 12 good games in 3 years is beyond me its complete stupidity let the money grabbing twat go to shitty an ruin his career. i am disapointed cesc is going but lets face it we knew he was going this season anyway and at least the swuad wont be built round a single player whos out injured for half the season so stop winging its august 12th not sept 1st judge the team after sept when we know who are squad is.

get behind the loyal players we have and the guys wenger brings in even if you cant support wenger support the team they dont need you booing at games they need you supporting them put it support song djourou kozza theo wilshere ramsey gervinoh rvp tv5 sagna and shezza and encourage the up and coming jenkison gibbs vela ryo aoc frimpong afobe and new signing cambpell fingers crossed well have afew more player first team ready signed i dont care how much the got as long as they have the talent to play for the arsenal lets get behind what we got and the players we respect and hope big futures for.

  30. matt

Its not about how good Nasri is or isnt. The fact is he was a starter all last season when fit. It seems everyone knew from the start of the window that he would go. Why not do it earlier and give ourselves half a chnace to hit the ground running?

As for booing, I think anyone who boos will be booing the manager and the board, not the players. I thin most of the players will be smart enough to realise that, maybe with the exception of Song!

  31. Ryan

I think both will stay. Nasri to sign extension and put a high clause in the contract and if anyone wants him they’ll have to pay top dollar! Similar to what man u done with ronaldo! Fabs will give it one more go, why not! Go now for what?? he’s our captian and wants win with us also to play regular footy! he’ll spend alot of time on the bench at barcá, he must know that!!

  32. Wenger the liar

James wins the award for the first

“lets get behind this shit team with no chance of silverwear” post.

    James, go fuck yourself.

  33. Lurch LeRouge

    haha!

    James,

go get a snaplock freezer bag fill it ice and go in the corner and teabag it for 5 minutes and come back with a sense of humour.

  34. TonyS

When a player leaves for more wonga why are they greedy money grabbers?

If the phone rings and a head-hunter calls offering the same job for twice the basic, then fuck it, I’m gone bruv.

Anyone seen “Source Code”: yes or no?

  35. frenchie

dalton tweets that some spanish journo named, get this, kike marin is reporting arsenal and valencia have agreed terms for mata. wind up? with a name like that, surely…

  36. Yandi

Wenger won’t stop until the average age of the team hits 18. He won’t stop, He can’t stop. He’ll never stop. In Wenger’s ideal fantasy world, football’s an U/19 game played by midgets under 1.7m… anyone older should contemplate pension and anyone taller should play rugby. Everyone’s Gallic and kids are running all over the fucking place with water bottles.

  37. frenchie

for that matter, limitless was also poo. had the misfortune of watching both in one sitting. think teabagging a gallon bag of ice much more pleasant than sitting through that shit.

  38. SUGA3

    James,

of course we will get behind the team, but it just so happens that most of us on here don’t condone the club’s policies and feel that it’s better to laugh it off…

  39. Yandi

    Samir

Thats bullshit. I’m actually watching the game. Valencia are playing Roma, 57th minute. Juan Mata’s on the bench.

  40. Lurch LeRouge

what ever happened to that dale fella, fridays just aren’t the same without his dummy flying across the blogosphere…

  41. Thomas. It's up for grabs now!

    @Matt
Thinking the same thing… Has the man lost it.. Was in a rage all day after that press conference. Couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Then I said it must be me… I’m the one who’s mad.

After 12 hours of thought this is what I think he was saying… although one needs to be a nurse with 10 years geriatric training to decipher his purile code..

I don’t expect anyone to leave = when the team play shit this season I will point back to this moment and tell you I wanted to keep these players but others at the club overruled me so you cannot blame me that the club sold them one day before the season kicks off… I was planning to keep them both.

And Kim il Jong was a member of the New Seekers!

  42. zeus

    Hahahaha.

‘Wenger won’t stop until the average age of the team hits 18. He won’t stop, He can’t stop.’

    Very funny Yandi.

  43. Rohan

    Predictions for tomorrow’s game?

I’m going for a 2-1 last-gasp win courtesy of Nicklas Bendtner. (Oh, how I’ve missed this)

Rosicky to open his account with a thunderbolt early doors before Joey Barton scores with a peno. Koscielny MOM.

  44. Dial Square

I believe we will lose 3-2 but will play with quality and belief because this our best squad of players ever

  45. incesc

    rohan

you know we will win tommorow and every one will say “i wish we lost so wenger gets the sack”

i hate wenger but i hope rvp scores a hat trick and we win and wenger gets sacked

We are the Arsenal We are the Arsenal ! We are The Arsenal!
Heys guys the old king is dead long live the king!

  47. gambon

I hope wenger gets attacked & killed by a random polar bear that swam to newcastle.

In the absence of this ill accept a 2-0 Newcastle win with much booing.

  48. kwik fit

Guys Jadson is seems like a quality player . But Mata would be heaven. After those two Cahill must come in . Godforbid not scott Dann!

  49. WengersSweeties

I don’t know why people don’t rate Scott Dann.

He is as solid as they get and exactly what we need.

  50. incesc

    booing is pointless now.

fuck cesc, fuck wenger, fuck erm denilson

we still have rvp, chesney, vermalaen and arsh.

we need to support what we have,

  51. kwik fit

I don’t listen to what people say. What I want is for our fans to appreciate our team & to support our team.”

  52. incesc

time to get behind the team, its all up for grabs.

gaz and wangker have royally fucked us but the players are still arsenal

  53. TOMTOM

Bloke comes home to find his son sitting on the couch grinning from ear to ear.”What are you so happy about?” he asked.”I just fucked the girl next door”he said proudly. “Well done son,I hope you were wearing something.” “yep” he replied. “a balaclava”

  54. Rohan

I guess it’s time to start spreading the Nikki B love once again now that it seems he’s key to our fortunes.

  55. TOMTOM

    Gunners make move for Campbell
Arsenal have agreed terms with Costa Rican side Deportivo Saprissa to sign teenage striker Joel Campbell.

The 19-year-old was in his country’s squad for the recent Copa America and the Under-20 World Cup.

The Gunners revealed on Friday night that the transfer is subject to the completion of ‘formal agreements and processes’.

Manager Arsene Wenger told his club’s official website, http://www.arsenal.com: “Joel Campbell has already shown that he is a player with great ability, and has also performed well on the international stage at a young age.

“We look forward to the formalities of the transfer being completed and working with Joel when he joins us at Arsenal.”

Campbell is predominantly left-footed and has made six full international appearances, scoring twice.

He scored on his debut in a 5-0 win over Cuba at this year’s CONCACAF Gold Cup, helping his side to the competition’s quarter-finals.

Campbell has had two seasons in his native Primera Division, where he played for Deportivo Saprissa and on loan at Puntarenas, making a total of eight league appearances.

  56. Yandi

Come on guys. No fucking way Juan Mata comes to Arsenal. It’s just too good to be true. I never believed it then and I certainly don’t believe it now. And because it actually logically makes sense, ticks most boxes and is an absolute no-brainer, it means Wenger won’t go for it. His ego wouldn’t let him. He’s too busy trying to re-invent the wheel to actually do the obvious. Expect Jadson or some unknown French kid who he’ll take credit for discovering.

And fuck all this shit about wanting Arsenal to lose. 3-1 to The Gunners tomorrow!

  57. OPG

Yea right who cares about Bendtner..
Wenger may be playing with the media I don’t have a clue, he says he’ll buy a CB but:

“Externally, if I’m convinced a player brings some extra qualities to the squad, we will always buy him – maybe even overpay a little bit.

“But to pay three or four times the price, you must really be convinced that this is the player you need.

“At the moment, we have not found that player.”

Extra qualities like Oxo one for the future, but not a CB that is a priority?

  58. TOMTOM

Tevez and RVP upfront would make me happy,if we also signed Cahill,Samba and Mata I would be fucking over the moon

  59. Frank

A swop with Tevez for Nasri would have been amazing, but i doubt that would happen.

It surely would have given our squad a big boost, and it would have been a big improvement for our attack.

Jadson seems like a interesting player, although i doubt he could fill the space after Fabregas straight away. Replacements for Nasri i feel we have good control on. Nasri has mostly played on the wing, and we now have players like Walcott, Gervinho, Chamberlain and Arshavin. We can also include Rosicky and Miyaichi. Many young and interesting players among these, and some of them should be able to get a real break through on the wings.

The only thing missing now is to get some signings in defense and maybe another midfielder besides Jadson if he signs. Then we would seem stronger than i felt a few weeks ago. Will be interesting to see what part Campbell will play this year too. It seems very positive that we have many players now who can play both up front and on the wings. It will be easy for the players to switch roles on the pitch and cause problems for the oppositions defenders.

Hopefully a positive result tomorrow would give another big boost for the squad.

  60. kwik fit

The match starts at what 5.30 to be honest i intend to have sex at half time if you do not mind 15 mins of you know what it does me ! if you know what i mine

  61. BacaryisGod

Time for my sunny optimist side to come out.

Reasons to be Cheerful (August 2011)

    1. Our back-five is comprised of two recent PFA Team of the Year selections in Sagna and Vermaelen (who nearly missed all of last season) and arguably the best young keeper in the world who has now had a good chunk of last season to settle in as our #1. Before his injury, Djourou formed a very mean-spirited partnership with Koscielny. Don’t forget that in the 4-4 Newcastle game, it wasn’t just Diaby’s sending off, but Djourou’s injury in the 49th minute that lead to the collapse. The replacement for Djourou was Squillaci of course.

Caution: If Squillaci is in the top 4 rotation at CB our season is in trouble, particularly if TV has to spot Gibbs at left-back. Everyone must know by now we need an experienced CB. If one comes in, then we are really in great shape there.

    2. Return to form possible: Rosicky and Arshavin have looked pretty good this pre-season. If anyone can pick up the slack it could be these two. Ramsey will be inconsistent and Diaby will be injured. Chamakh is scaring me though. It’s possible that Campbell could come through and push Chamakh further back, but that’s a lot to ask for a 19 year old.

    3. The following (if too attacking) line-up will beat most Premier League teams:

Szczesny, Sagna, Gibbs, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Song, Wilshere, Arshavin, Gervinho, Walcott, Van Persie

There’s a solid’s sub bench including Djourou, Diaby, Ramsey, Rosicky, Ryo, AOC, Campbell, Fabianski, Eboue, Jenkinson (if not sold).

And this is with pulling out Cesc, Nasri and Bendtner and with no additions. Throw 2-3 quality players into the above squad and preferably the first team (for example Cahill for Kos, and Jadson/Mata for Arshavin, and it’s still a probable Top 4 team with trophy chances)

Maybe the hysteria is a little overblown when you take a step back, especially as we wait for new arrivals.

PS. Pedro/Geoff: Are ‘kiddy-fiddling’ comments going unaddressed? Please, please take a stand. It really tarnishes a quality blog.

  62. kwik fit

Unbelieveabubble Can you get fucking real ! Arsenal fucking football club hands held high no you know what!

Been reading all summer, wanna share my .02

Why didn’t we sign Enruque from Newcastle?

Are we becoming Man Citys feeder club?

Is it this hard to spend money on players? Cahill, Dann, Hazard, whoever, if we have the money then why is it so hard to spend it? Is there something that we’re all missing?
