Wenger press conference: The beginning of the end I’m afraid

by & filed under Uncategorized.

‘I hope for a swift end to the transfers’

Perhaps Arsene you should have been a bit more forceful about that months ago. Losing your two best players the day before the season starts is nothing short of an embarrassing disaster.

How could drama like this be allowed to roll on and on in such fashion? How are we on the eve of the season three first team players down… Progress? More like the sad beginning of the end for Arsene Wenger.

There are two options here, he either goes out and signs 5 players before the end of the window. Those being a striker, 3 midfielders of note and a centre back. The he prays to the footballing gods they gel and adapt. Or he doesn’t do that and the season collapses because we’re under experienced and under equipped.

We’re hoping for a miracle here. How many squads could deal with a morale sapping situation like the one we’re in? Even with our best players in the side we lacked direction and leadership. Now we’re hoping Jadson and Mata can come in and pick up where Sammy and Cesc left off? What an expectation…

I do sympathise with Wenger in a way. Only in the sense that he’s the rich geeky kid at school who announces a party on Facebook at his Dads mansion, that  is well attended but as soon as the attendees have had drunk all the booze and eaten all the food they wreck the place and leave for the next bigger and better party.

When Wenger set up his master vision for project youth, he forgot a few things… Trophies and money. If you lure kids in on the promise of riches, don’t be surprised when they leave you for the same things. Don’t expect to command loyalty when disloyalty is the very first thing you encourage them to do.

It’s a sorry state of affairs but we’re now in a situation where we’re not an attractive proposition to overseas players. We’ve missed out on countless targets and to the outside eye, we’re a shambles.

I’d love Wenger to get this right but Le Grove has had 4 years of people telling us we’d rue our words. We’ve been told for god knows how long Cesc would lead us to a ten year stretch of dominance, now we’re at the point where he’s on the verge of greatness…. He’s taken a pay cut and run… for £29million. Less than Andy f*cking Carroll… what an absolute joke.

Those two will go now, Theo and Robin will likely follow suit next summer… Then where are we?

Even our sustainable model is under threat. What is the point of it all if you can’t compete on salaries or transfer fees? We’ll end this week as the most organically cash rich club in the world. The 18th lowest net spenders in the league. Marvellous… what an achievement. Still, on the plus side, that gives the next manager a great opportunity to add more to the plans than great foundations and a good balance sheet.

The Wenger philosophy has taken an arrow to the chest, I just hope it doesn’t go septic before it’s killed off.

Team News for Newacastle…

Good news is that out of the squad that does want to stay, many of them have returned to fitness. We should have Robin, Theo, Arshavin, Ramsey, Gibbs and Vermaelen. That should be enough to take on the might of Newcastle, a team that effectively ended out chances last year in that horrible 4-4 draw.

Here’s hoping eh?

Wenger Prezzer Pearlers

‘We are full of confidence, ambition and desire to do well’

Oxlade-Chamberlain has “exceptional quality and we feel he is a big talent for the future

“Fabregas in the squad. Nasri not certainly in the squad. He has had a sickness. No other issue”

‘I expect nobody to leave the club’ (What about this quick resolution?)

“We have enough quality to deal with whatever situation we decide”

“Manchester United sold Ronaldo. Does that mean they are not a big club?” (‘If we sell our best players, we are not a big club’ 2 weeks ago)

“There are 2 markets. One internal and one external. The one internal is the promotion of young players.”

“I have not been disappointed by attitude of Cesc or Nasri. They have been professional”

Wenger on signing players ‘it’s not as easy as people think it is’

‘At the moment we have a big squad … We are not short of players’

… make of that what your will.

Hard to support these players when Wenger puts so much faith in them and then they fail, not their fault but its so hard to watch and then listen to his spin..

So much ITK BS spreads around Twitter, people start getting their hopes up and all. I’ll be glad once Cesc and Nasri are confirmed but the next worry is whether he’ll spend enough of that money on the Real ‘Super’ quality or penny pinch. Cesc needs to be replaced with proper quality because he’s so key to the current system but his hamstrings don’t seem to hold up lately.

    Wenger “Nobody will leave”

    Wenger “Mata wont sign”

    Good Morning Grovers

    Arsenal 1 Newcastle 0:

Ok maybe its early morning and i’m not awake but doesn’t a striker play upfront?

We got the work permit for [Ryo Miyaichi] because he is an exceptional talent,” Wenger said.

“Overall we are very happy because he is one of the players who can have a big impact this season. He will play as a striker, right or left, he is a winger type and he is very keen.

Early team news: gibbs, TV and RVP expected to be fit

I just watched Wenger conference and he is smiling like a crazy man.

Welcome Joel Campbell, you best be good.

  8. OPG

The Daily Fail says we’ll have £58m soon not all will be spent though but it’s a substantial amount to strengthen and replace any key players properly, there’s not so much time to dally in the market now especially the market for more proven quality players.

  9. OPG

“Every club in the world is looking for centre backs, but we are not in a supermarket where you can just ask where the centre backs or the strikers are. I know Phil Jagielka as you know him. I know many centre backs.” hmmmmm

    OPG, no worry mate

arsene is doing business in the internal transfer market. but that’s only when his squad is not too big.

which is not the case this summer

  11. Thomas. It's up for grabs now!

    MATCH REPORT

    From our reporter, Mike Hunt.

Today in a last curtain warmer before the season kicks off proper Arsene Wenger lined out against an all-star Arsenal Supporters team comprising of Gooners worldwide.

The match promised plenty of spice with no love being lost between these two sides.

Wenger shot into an early 1-0 lead with his comment “I expect no-one to leave”

Stunned, the supporters quickly rallied and went straight downfield to equalize with a “what the fuck Arsene” comment. 1-1. However, that was the last glimmer of hope for the supporters as Wenger squeezed the game out and prevented the supporters from further scoring. Something his teams have been unable to do.

Wenger shot into a 3-1 halftime lead with further comments relating to Mata. “I expect we will not buy him” and “we have a new signing because Vermaelen only played 5 games last season”

The second half was all one-way traffic as the supporters, obviously stunned by the early blitz could only cling to the WFT comment. Many were seen to psychology give up and were walking around shaking their heads. Sad to see a once might fan-base to be reduced to also rans. Many were seen late last night enquiring as to where the fuck Wimbledon FC play now.

Seeing his opponents vulnerability, Wenger hammered home his victory with ” Externally if I’m convinced a player brings some extra qualities to the squad we will always buy him – maybe even overpay a little. At the moment we have not found THAT player”

4-1 now and the supporters are looking fairly demoralised. Looking to the bench there is not much hope there. An arsenal insider says the money from Fabregas and Nasri will be reinvested. Giving the supporters some hope. However, Wenger dashes downfield to nail this lie and wrap the game up 5-1 with the resounding comment” There are two markets, one internal… ….one external. Internal is the young players we have”

So Wenger opens with a comprehensive 5-1 victory. Solid in defence and fast off the mark. Wenger refused to come out for the post match interview. He left the ground quickly and was seen entering the Jewel House in The Tower of London. He was overheard asking “Do youuuu tink zat crown would fit my ‘ead”?

  12. OPG

Wenger even felt there was a media conspiracy against Arsenal. “If our fans go the way the media want them to go we have no chance. The people behind me and around the press box do not necessarily represent the majority of the fans. They are the ones you [journalists] hear the most but aren’t necessarily the majority. They make your opinion maybe but they aren’t necessarily the opinion.”

  13. OPG

“We were very close last year. Very, very close. We lacked a little bit of maturity at decisive moments. We played too many games in December and January. That caught up with us in the end.

  14. Dave Button

Football is a game of opinions we don’t know how his hands are tied. He is the best manager out there bar none. In Arsene we trust, through thick and thin.

Wow. Just watched a 5 min interview segment on Fox Soccer channel with AW. I could smell the old folks home scent through the tv. The guy can’t even come up with a coherent answer to very basic questions, just kinda mumbling about 3rd and 4th place and about a great team for champions league…..??????? Alarm bells going off in my head. I do not mean this at all as an insult, but I’m pretty positive AW is senile, or is headed that direction at an accelerated pace- in the world of PL coaches that is to say.

  16. David Andreassen

can anyone of you negative wankers please explain to me what it is you know about the whole Nasri thing that makes you think it was a clever idea to chant those moronic things this weekend?

See alot of ppl complaining about Arsenal being the laughing stock, is it rly a suprise with that kind of fans?

But seriously, name calling aside, what did I miss about the whole Nasri saga cause all I’ve heard/read being said by Nasri himself is basically that the media is full of crap and that he himself will let us know when theres anything to tell?!

Apart from that the only confirmed thing is that he’s not actually signed yet (couldbe a number of resons even though some all knowing supporters ofc “”knows” he’s a money grabbing whore, just as they know Wenger is just lazy and senile, just as they probably have the answer to most other things aswell, all found underneath their bed), and considering the lovely “support” being thrown around, probably never will (I know I sure as hell wouldn’t).

More then anything, even more than Wengers choice of spending late if even at all, the biggest threat to Arsenal atm is this negative spiral we’re in as a community and that is fed by all this morons claiming to actually support this club.

I bet a thousand bucks the same people claim to love their wife also and showing it by punchin her in the face every chance they get
