Don’t give Cesc a new deal | Tapping up needs to include player comments | McCarthy in?

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Things really don’t move fast when Arsenal are involved eh? The Nasri and Cesc stories have acted like a tar on our summer plans. Instead of sorting it out early we’ve let it roll into August (probably) and now I’m reading Wenger talking about ‘maybe one more’ signing.

Early in the summer before I’d spoken to anyone I called that he’d do this. How can Wenger say it’s not about numbers when our annual end of season demise almost always comes down to a lack of number either resulting in too many injuries, exhaustion or poor quality squad players.

Anyway, I’m with Geoff, if Cesc stays, he shouldn’t be paid a penny more than his contract stipulates. Signing on till 2017 would be laughable. Nasri…? Again, if he won’t sign, flog him, because at the the end of the day, the only people footing the £25million bill next year will be us. It certainly won’t be Stan putting his hand in his pocket, he’s over stretched himself too much already with the initial club purchase.

Listening to Wenger talk about dizzying sums when purchasing players feels kind of laughable when he’s looking for about £40million for Cesc. I think someone needs to tell him that players outside of Arsenal also have quality and they also come from clubs who expect a return. He doesn’t dictate market price, the market does. His approach to player valuations is such a hindrance to the playing squad. As far as I’m concerned, he should tell Ivan who he wants, split his list down into plan A, plan B and plan C… then let Ivan work out what we can afford.

Team news…

It was great reading Geoff’s in the main, very upbeat match report. Gervinho sounds like he could be the player we need to help improve our goal threat and perhaps even spur Andrey onto a great season. I’m very worried about the defence… Expecting it to improve 35% in a summer by flogging two, buying in a right back and training the same way is an odd idea of progression.

Still, we can only hope the promise of an active summer was more than just a crowd pleasing statement. The Jagielka bid feels like Wenger is lining up a whole load of nearly stories for us to listen to in black November.

McCarthy…

Apparently we’ve enquired after the Wigan midfielder, initially we were told no, but there are rumours we’ll up our £16,000 bid towards the end of the month.

Comments…

This seems to be recurring summer theme but the comments have had a bit of a nasty edge of late. Abuse of the manager will not be tolerated nor will any other nasty comments.

We’ve always been about having an opinion that can be substantiated, if you come on just to abuse then your comment is no better than someone who try’s to kill an argument with Arsene knows. Be critical by all means, just keep them respectable… unless of course you’re talking about an opposing teams players, like, say, Patrice Evra.

Let’s keep the comments light hearted, lets be tolerant of views we disagree with and for flips sake, lets keep it about the flipping football ya?

bacary yes, he argues with any viewpoint, end of story, Gambon has a point of view.

you can please some of the people some of the time…

  2. Dial Square

point of view like calling our manager a child trafficker and refusing to back down, wasn’t it him that also wished cancer on Wenger.

  3. chozzer

I think it was Jimbo with the carcinogenic comment, gambon just wished that Wenger died in a train crash (only in jest obviously).

  4. frenchie

and a serb defender. when i read that, i actually thought bacary might be right regarding sakho, but then i came out of dreamland.

The Argentina international quit Boca for Real Madrid in 2006 for €20.4 million, and despite enjoying a promising start to life at the club, a string of injuries have restricted him to a peripheral role over the last two seasons.

Gago has made no secret that he wants to return to his former club, where he spent over a decade, and the 25-year-old’s agent has repeated his client’s wish, revealing that the midfielder is willing to take a substantial pay cut in order to complete the switch.

“Fernando’s wish is to return to Boca. That is why we will try it. Look at how eager he is [to move to Boca] that I still cannot believe he will give up this much money,” Lombilla told Ole.

Reports in Argentina earlier on Monday claimed Boca have already engaged in talks with Real Madrid in hope of signing Gago, who is currently in his homeland recovering from an injury sustained during Copa America.
    *********

Sad really. He is better than the chances he gets at Madrid.

  6. zeus

I like unlucky theo, but whenever he speaks I get the urge to smash his face in.

    His platitudes are annoying now.

  7. BOOZY

    rivals watch
    manchester united edition-

having watched all of united’s preseason- i can authoritatively tell everyone that they will most likely retain the league next season – except chelsea and city do something drastic.

The ashley young signing has made united unplayable going forward- they’ll easily stroll past lower teams in the league – and they’ll have a strong chance over any top team- however they still lack a creative player in the middle – once they get one – its would be a walk in the park.

  8. OPG

‘Thierry’s back see him come back alive’ so that’s the big marketing point for the weak Emirates Cup lineup..
Wenger is going to have to pay a bit more to strengthen the squad despite his constant moaning about fees this is modern football otherwise you get left behind.

  9. OPG

I mean ‘…….see him come alive’ with a Subbuteo figure of him on a pitch they’re still advertising in the Evening standard.

  10. zeus

I can only imagine that we are indeed still skint. I cant imagine that Wenger could be so mad as to put his entire legacy and reputation on the line.

  11. BOOZY

so even if we spend a lot this transfer window, the league is still united’s to win.

Since we know we wont spend much, and the squad would be considerably worse than last season – what do we expect next season.

  12. BOOZY

    chelsea edition

haven seen all of chelsea’s preseason to date – i dont think they are the threat they once where, but a top winger and a top midfielder, then they become united’s biggest threat.

  13. zeus

Honestly don’t see us falling out the top 4. Manchesters and Chelsea ahead of us for sure but not Liverpool.

  14. BOOZY

    man city edition-

city are about to sign aguero, irrespective of if tevez stays or not- and if nasri eventually joins em- thats silva, tevez, nasri and aguero to contend with – a very large squad for all competition – definitely title contenders – but they do have an Achilles heel,

A very negative coach- who would insist on playing three holding midfielders in the middle.

  15. BOOZY

now the 4th place battle between liverpool and arsenal – i’d have to admit we cant really make a comment on liverpool till the season starts – it could fall into place for em – or it could go horribly wrong.

but they do need a central defender – and if they do get a very good one 4th position just got harder.

  16. Big Dave

Most important is our defence, the defence that shipped 40 goals, this has to be addressed and yet we seem no closer to getting a CB or LB, FUCKING MADNESS

  17. zeus

    g786

NO. Not even close. Try adding to 10m to that figure.

I don’t think ppl realise just how good Cesc really is…

  18. BacaryisGod

Fair enough, Geoff. I actually like Pedro’s guidelines: No Paedo references and no ‘Cunts’ (other than….better not finish this sentence)

  19. dennisdamenace

Fabregas should be sold for nothing short of £50m cash, and that cash should be given to a manager that will reinvest it back into the first team in the form of a like for like replacement……

  20. Man

Does Goodwillie and rape go together!
    —————————————————————————————

…apparently not, if he was called Goodwillinski then that would be a different story

  21. frenchie

    786-

i have read anywhere between 25 and 35m and thiago. if they added both thiago and ibrahim afellay i would think about it.

  22. gambon

DDM its far from a sell out.

Im not really looking forward to it, only 1 new player to watch. Just get smashed at the bar instead.

  23. gambon

Selling cesc is a disaster cos wenger cant be trusted with money.

I bet wengers shitting himself as he knows the annpuncement of his sale will be the beggining of the end for him.

I also bet the propaganda division, headed by Fester, are desperatley thinking of what pathetic story they can run in conjunction to soften the blow.

    Arsenal Website next week:

Main headline: Lansbury agrees long term contracts

Second Story: Wilshere – My Partnership with Aaron

Third story: Cesc sold to Barcelona

Oh and you can bet your bottom fucking dollar we dont sell him pre emirates cup. Wenger and the club will keep on lying an cheating the fans like 10 year olds.

    hahahaha

  25. Ricky

So i read these tossers are struggling to sell tickets for the emirates cup?

Advertising in news papers now are we? Which big clubs have to do that hey????

Fucking sad!! I really hope we get the smallest emirates crowd ever cos its the only way they will really understand how the fans feel. Carry on like this & they might aswell think about digging back up good old highbury.

  26. Rohan

If we sell Cesc, and don’t spend the money, I’ll fucking throw a strop.
All this time, they’ve said that we have the money and don’t need to sell and that we won’t. Anything less than 50 million and us not spending atleast 40 million of it and I will probably be on the fringes of the doom brigade.

  27. gambon

JET – who half of this blog said would be the next big thing!

Who will they turn to next?

    Aguero? Nope

    Luke Freeman? Sounds about right

  28. Rohan

eh, gambon? The only people on here who rate JET are the same people who think Wenger doesn’t give him a chance because he’s not French.

  29. gambon

    Rohan

We should be spending £40m even without selling players.

Not 80% of what we can raise.

    Pathetically run club.

  30. frenchie

    ricky-

i remember reading that between 5-12k tickets remained for the entire EC. that was begining of last week.

  31. incesc

chelsea have to advertise champions league tickets ricky

but really we shouldnt have to worry about our rivals, gazidis is either really bad at his job or wenger is just insane and has a hold over him.

or they are both just idiots

  32. Ricky

JET is a decent championship player at best.

Whoever said he would make it big has to be forgiven as it was only false hope brainwashed into them by the child trafficker himself.

  33. frenchie

JET is not good enough for arsenal. and, as much as it pains me, neither is lansbury. i believe he will be next to go.

  34. Rohan

incesc: I assume that money went into paying for our debt. Gazidis has been clear this season that we have the money and that we will be active.
    We live in hope.

I’m not saying that spending 40 million will solve all our problems as Keyser kindly will point out, but it’s a starting point.

  35. gambon

I think Lansbury could be a decent player, but with JW and Aaron at the club no youngsters should be getting anywhere near the team for a long, long time.

  36. Rohan

Never rated JET. He’s upper championship level, like Jay Simpson who has a better attitude but is pretty average.

I like Lansbury on the other hand, but can’t see him getting into our midfield even as a sub in the near future with Jack and Ramsey there.

  37. frenchie

henri has the desire. it is definitely better that he moves on…

here is a question: ignasi or kyle?

  38. Rohan

I am very concerned about 2 positions in particular:

    1. LB: I wouldn’t trust Gibbs to occupy one of the most specialized positions in football. If he gets injured, is our second choice really Traore? Really? Vermaelen? Please.
    2. DM: Song’s going to go the ACN. Those 6 weeks coupled with the possibility of him getting injured worry me. Who is his replacement? Jack?

If we really aren’t going to get anyone else, I’d settle for us buying just one player: Vertonghen. DM,CB, and LB all in one as well as an extra option for free kicks.

  39. Rohan

Our best hope for success is to hope Cesc, Nasri van Persie, Theo and Arshavin play 160 games between them..

That and Vermaelen and Koscielny striking up a proper partnership. (Sorry, don’t trust Djourou. Koscielny imo has far more potential)
Chesney will improve. And hopefully Jack and Aaron can take their game to another level.

Song’s performance will be critical. If he can improve, we’ll be sorted. I like him and he’s a great backup DM, but I’m still not a 100% convinced.

  40. gambon

    Bartley by a long way.

To be starting for rangers at 19, and their best defender is impressive. He has also improved consistently with a run of games.

Miguel has 2 seasons on loan before we need to make a decision.

Bartley will be better than Djourou IMO.

  41. Rohan

Yeah, I like Bartley though. I saw him play against PSV and thought he looked a very stylish, accomplished player. Was pleasantly surprised. Bit of a mean street-smart streak about him as well.

  42. joon

    Hello all,
New to this blog and my first observation was ‘lively debate’.
With all the talk of new signings required I still wonder whether the ££ is there?
We need to sell before we can bring players in, Get to July 31st and Almunia, Eboue, Bentner are still Arsenal players and we have an oversized squad what’s their worth on the transfer market? ZILCH!! So clubs monitoring the situation come in and pick them up cheap.
I agree ‘Arsenal light’ has unfortunately proved unsuccessful and the team needs some meat but it showed so much promise and only this season did it seem to prove unviable, so to hanker after AW’s head seems ridiculous.
He’s proved he can rebuild teams so let’s see what he does.

P.s Stan is skint which is why Jabba the Hutski wants access to the company accounts to discredit him.

  43. Tim

The Guardian say that Eboue is leaving Arsenal for Galatasaray for 4M euros. I can not believe that. Eboue loves Arsenal so much.He is very important in the dressing room as well. Everybody loves him there. He lifts the spirits of everyone.

  44. Big Dave

So answer me this. what is the point in Wenger idea of bringing thru the youth if he is now planning on selling them, and maybe 1 player (JW) makes it thru to the 1st team, does not make sense

  45. gambon

“Eboue loves Arsenal so much.He is very important in the dressing room as well”

Ridiculous how often people say that.

How many other clubs employ a clown on £2m pa for the sake of the dressing room.

Its time we became a team of serious men, it doesnt help having Eboue with the mental age of a 6 year old diving all over the pitch and putting whoppie cushions in the dressing room.

  46. Rohan

If we want a comedian in the dressing room, we can just hire Sean Lock. He’ll be cheaper as well.

I won’t be too miffed to see Eboue go. We can easily replace him internally.

  47. frenchie

rangers did just sign a defender, so bartley going back to spl is unlikely. my concern with the kyle or ignasi debate is that kyle is the type of back we long for, while ignasi is the type of back arsene creams himself over. both have their qualities, but how do you answer the question. i would prefer to not answer the question this year, but with how the youth squad and reserve side is being culled i think the answer will be coming.

    ==============

Yh, i think its more of this.

The point im making incesc is why does it have to come to this were fans are arguing amongst themselves & ppl are turning there heads away to tickets to watch the arsenal!

I remember days when i used to have to walk up & down highbury with a chunk of my wages getting in bidding wars with fellow gooners just to get a coupla tickets for me & my pal. Sometimes we would get em (even if it meant one of us sits in north & the other in east, as long as we got in to see players like adams, bergkamp, wrighty & seaman put blood sweat & tears into there performances) & other times we’d have to take the walk back to the nearest pub. Tickets were like gold dust!!

The fact that these cunts chose to ignore our plea’s to sign one or two experienced players a few yrs back has put em in a situation were we now really need about 4-5. Fans now are not renewing season tickets because of the price hike, Others are refusing to put money into the club because of the wenger & co’s bullshit policies.

These cunts are fast to tell the world how financially secure we are but the truth is the clubs relationship with the fans at the moment is not in a healthy situation & untill they really start to pull there fingers they better get used to having small crowds at the emirates & low sales in merchandise.

    Excuse my long arse post.

  49. gambon

    Big Dave,

Thats the way it should be. High standards, and only the best make it.

The problem is that we sign all these overseas kids, but no overseas (or domestic) proven, experienced players.

  50. Big Dave

so if sagna injured we get a right back who has not played PL football and a left back in Gibbs who is weak and bad at positioning.
    gulp.

    wengers knows !

  51. frenchie

if i never see eboue attempting to ride or be riden from behind during another goal celebration it would be too soon. yes, he is the feel good song of the season, the oaf who made good after tackling his own player, the substitute who was substituted quicker than denilson, but he is a headless chicken on the pitch looking for a reason to fall over and roll 30 meters. the measure of a player is not what he does in the showers, it is what he does on the pitch…in this case, nothing.

  52. gambon

Heres the problem I do have:

    In

    Gervinho £10.6m
    Jenkinson £1m

    Out

    Clichy £7m
    Eboue £4m
    JET £1.1m

We have YET AGAIN made a profit on transfers. When Arsene said I will be very active, did anyone think he meant “Im gonna spend £0″

When Gazidis said “We have significant money to spend” do you think he meant “We wont spend a penny for the 6th season in a row”.

Do i need to remind people that Bolton have outspent us in the last 5 years, and every other team in the PL.

Dara O’Briain drinks in the Hen and Chickens before home games…we could tap him up…y’know, talk openly and publicly about how much we’d like to get him.

    Nice vid about Merse…

If it was Wenger he’d have made Merse wear a nappy and forced him to lick soggy liga out of his (Wengers) crotch….

  56. apanama

Wenger’s criteria for selection of new player:
Must be below 18 years old ( under 12 is welcome if he is from Barca La Masia academy)
Must cost below 1 Mil ( free transfer is priority)
Can be re-sold for 10 times the amount
From France, or ever play in French ligue or at least speak french
Can assist in attack or score goals ( Own goals or howler which result in goal is acceptable)

if you know anyone fits above, leave a message because Mr Wenger is very ‘busy’ this summer he might miss you call.

  57. Cartman

    morning abnet!
you bet it is… and i can guarantee it will be the same season, show some promise at start and bottle it come february!

  58. rrg

If managers can be found guilty of tapping up players then surely all employees including players should be too. players from Barca are surely guilty of this and the club as a whole should be charged. Not about sour grapes. it is time to let our captain go as no player is bigger than the club.
