3 English defenders linked to Arsenal | Nasri bribed with VIP role?

by & filed under Uncategorized.

The sleep I had last night was world-class, I nearly slipped back into it this morning when I logged into news now.

Players we’re linked to today -

  • Scott Dann – Birmingham – Part of a relegation centre back pairing
  • Roger Johnson – Birmingham – Hangs out with Scott Dann in defence
  • Phil Jagielka – Everton – Let’s give it up, he’s too short and we’re never going to sign him
  • Gervinho – Lille – The most boring transfer story since Charles n’Zogbia
  • Kevin Doyle – Wolves – I like him, hard working, creative. Arsenal calibre? I’m unsure…
  • Sakho – I like him because he is French/African, he has Arsenal DNA
  • Odil Ahmedov - Uzbek known for his crunching tackles and spectacular long range efforts.

Rumour has it that on the way out is Samir Nasri, because he wants £160k per week. Well, you can’t blame him, he’d probably find he gets double at Manchester City. I’m quietly confident that he won’t be asking for a silly salary like that. In fact, I’m confident he’ll stay for some reason. He’s already come out and said this isn’t about money and I totally agree with him. It’s the same with Cesc, this is a man who shops in Zara Menswear for his clothes, all he cares about is trophies.

Wenger knew this was on the cards last year when Cesc said he wanted to leave. He knew the Spaniard wanted to win things and he knew the Spaniard, like 75% of the fanbase, thought the set up of the squad wasn’t good enough. Cesc isn’t stupid, he knows players like Denilson are way below the expected standard if you want to win trophies. Cesc was the first to speak out about this nonsense and he’s now set the precedent. This summer, they’re all at it.

Bendtner, Denilson, Cesc, Theo, Robin Van Persie, Sagna and JD have all made comments about the squad not being good enough. Rome is burning and Wenger seems to be doing very little to extinguish the growing flames. His head seems to be buried so deep in the sand, you wouldn’t know he’s managing the club. Ferguson finished the season as the second best team in the world and he said he’d like 3 players this summer. Wenger finished the season, spoke of how we weren’t far away and that had there been no such thing as a cross-bar and two posts, things might have been different.

No wonder we’ve got so much unrest in the squad. Poor players will like being defended and molly coddled. The great players, they need to be told when their performances aren’t acceptable. They need to know they’ve got a manager who 100% supports quality all over the pitch, a manager who respects the expectations of a world-class club and a manager who has the ability to be ruthless. This cull that we’re expecting of the squad has been driven by the players we’ve wanted culled for 3-4 years. It hasn’t been driven by Wenger giving them their marching orders. Denilson, Eboue, Bendtner, Almunia, Vela and Traore will all be leaving of their own accord. Diaby should be pushed but he won’t be, same for Seb Squillaci and a few others.

The worry I have with this all is that Wenger has lost the players. Never before have I heard so many dissenting dressing room voices from the players. If they all think they’re not responsible and they’re all blaming each others, how does this ‘great spirit’ return? What can Wenger do this summer to bring back the respect of his major players?

The Sunday Times are reporting that Barcelona are going to raise £17million through sales and they will use some of that to up their offer for the best creative midfielder in the world to £34million. I’m really not sure what planet they’re living on? Let me make this abundantly clear Barcelona Chiefs…

Jordan Henderson – £20million

Darren Bent – £24million

Cesc Fabregas – £34million <– It’s not working for me

There is no way we’ll accept a bid as pathetic as that one, if that’s the case, we’ll have to sell him somewhere else. The joke of it is, Udinese are looking for £34million for Alexis Sanchez. I guess the other joke is that Barcelona paid £37million for a 28 year old David Villa. I’ll be very annoyed if we do business for a player on a 4 year deal for anything less than his full market value. I’ll be even more annoyed if like Geoff mentioned yesterday, we give Cesc and incentive to stay for another season. He earns plenty enough, he has no power in this relationship, we should not be bribing people to stay.

One thing the Times did say is that Nasri is far more likely to stay if we build a side around him next year. Now, I’m no fan of Nasri centrally but in fairness, he rarely gets a go. What has to be said is that any side we’ve built around Cesc hasn’t worked. They’ve all lacked the power and pace of teams gone by because of the way he plays, the teams have also lacked bite with him in the middle. If Cesc did leave, could having the pacier more direct Nasri in the middle be an option? Could his dribbling skills and ability to break faster than Cesc give our side an advantage or perhaps allow us to play a different more efficient system? If we brought in a more mobile defensive minded midfielder to give Jack more creative responsibility. Could Jack and Nasri find 20 goals and 20 assists between them?

Maybe with a striker like Robin Van Persie fit for 38 games… or a striker of equal quality when Robin is missing his half of the season. Benzema anyone?

Usmanov is talking to the NoTW today, he’s basically piggy backing off the back of fan discontent. That’s no way to land yourself a seat on the board is it? Still, we should be thankful, he’s the only one stopping us going into total control of one man. I also think having a dissenting voice at the club is good thing, there hasn’t exactly been much of that going on lately. I’ll leave you with this Usmanov line…

I am rich, I will clear the debt

Like it, but I’m not sure if I trust it? Still, he’s not in this to kill the club is he? You don’t spend the money he spending to run a 2nd tier club do you?

Anyway, that’s enough rambling from me. Have yourself a delightful day and remember, don’t talk to the WWF Charity workers in Convent Garden who say they don’t want you to sign up to anything… they want you to send a £3 text instead!

P.S. Check out this great piece of work from Manc Blog RoM, makes for interesting financial reading.

  1. Santos

I reckon we should get Javi Martinez; a beast of a midfielder. He is that special box-to-box midfielder we dream of. What do you think?

  2. Lurch LeRouge

looked it up mate its fake. the photo is old, pre 96 – surrounding buildings have changed since.

    nice idea though.

  3. Lurch LeRouge

almost fell asleep in the second half of the u21′s.

ole footie gets pretty dull after 4 passes.

  4. Santos

25 YEARS OLD IS NOT A KlD!!!

    Lurch
You even had patience to watch Spain play their boring tippy tappy footie. I stopped at 23 minutes

  5. paul mc daid

With the Arabs buying United this board are well on their way too killing our great club, sad but true,we need the FAT RUSSIAN.

  6. Lurch LeRouge

yeah santos I held out to see Lansbury, had i known button was ripping it up in montreal i’d have switched a little sooner, managed to catch the last 20 min of it though thank fuck.

  7. Santos

Usmanov , we need. Like that Arsenalinsider guy said; Usmanov can still be in the board and form a plural ownership will Le Silent. Some fans think it is a risky business to allow one man to own the club. They do not want sole propritorship, I understand. Usmanov’ presence in the board will add a lot of value and dimension

  8. Lurch LeRouge

    Santos,

he was only on for 10 min and didn’t see much possession, he put his body in a couple of times and creamed his opponent but that was pretty much it.

One could argue his presence on the pitch contributed to the goal but to be honest he wasn’t really involved.

  9. Lurch LeRouge

FTK needs to edit it down, he says the same thing 3 times in the opening 150 words. needs to make his point faster.

    me i’d just say

    SHOW ME THE MONEY!

  10. Lurch LeRouge

think were entitled a bigger name than whats on that list Gambon.

whilst those names a good, its not exactly fear inducing is it.

  11. Santos

    Lurch
Although Im not as good as Gstar and Ice , Let me give you a hint

    Cahill
    Subotic
    Santon[yes Santon]
    DeRossi
    Rodwell
    Young
    Higuain

Usmanov can do this in a matter of weeks. Money talks……. :)

  12. Lurch LeRouge

haha youll like this, hope it works…

pull up twatter and enter ‘ice afc’ into the search field and look who it pulls up in the people results, then come back and we can compare notes.

  13. incesc

    skippergimp? or aaron ramsey.

not seen REC, heard its good tho. theres a good torrent of sourcecode around, thats a great film

  14. Keyser

My moveigoings pretty much limited to Sky right now.

REC was pretty good, watching REC 2.

You lot seem to be pretty keen in the movie stakes, was wondering if there’s any other ones around that evoke the sort of emotion films like REC or ‘ILS’ do.

  15. Keyser

A mate said SourceCode was good, said something about the ending I can’t quite remember now, but that’s probably for the best.

  16. Keyser

    It’s like modern suspense Horror, there’s ‘ILS’ aswell that’s French/Hungarian I think.

I just end up stumbling across them then can’t find any that are similar.

  17. incesc

martyrs was a good horror film and a cheesey french kind of way. it is really horrible tho.

inside is meant to be scary as hell as well.

  18. Santos

    Lurch
You conspiracy theorist. You know we all follow those players and that ‘AFC’ is a key word that might display anything Arsenal. It doesnt mean that Ice is a member of the team.

  19. Keyser

Martyr’s reading about it now, there’s supposed to be a film where a mans girlfriend gets raped and he exacts revenge upon them to, I’m sure you lot were talking about it ages ago ?!

Also saw Sherlock Holmes last week, I liked it, and I dislike Jude Law quite a lot.

  20. Lurch LeRouge

i enjoyed ‘let the right one in’ the original Swedish version, its no schlok gorefest but very good.

  21. incesc

    irreversible.

be prepared, once you see it you cant unsee it. Its not really entertainment but the effect it had on me was pretty powerful which is why i rate it highly.

  22. Keyser

Someone said that to me about Requiem for a dream but for other reasons, that it’s not the entertainment of it, but that it’s an experience to sit there and watch it.

  23. Keyser

Nah seen a Japanese film where a woman eats dumplings made from aborted feotus’s to stay young, have no idea what it was called, was a bit shit, but I watched it.

  24. Robin's Choco Leg Special

    Battle royale is fucking ace!

    BR 2 wasn’t very good though :(

Lurch have you seen freezer (jap revenge flick)?

  25. Keyser

Fuck that, all I wanted was a bit of slow suspense, I don’t want to be traumatised, heh.

I don’t mind sitting through an experience film, if there’s a point to it or it exerts an emotional response that you generally wouldn’t ever experience at some point in your life, but at a point if it just attacks your sensibilities for the sake of it, I think it’s just bullshit.

  26. Lurch LeRouge

japs and koreans kind of lead the way in schlock horror,

    ichy the killer
    audition
    old boy
    the ring
    etc…

  27. Lurch LeRouge

lol keyser rec doesn’t sound slow paced…

anyhow in that case you’ll like ‘let the right one in’, very emotional.

  28. Keyser

Lurch LeRouge – Maybe slow plot build up then, it all builds to a crescendo at the end, little splurts of scaremongering interspersed throughout and leaves you guessing at the end.

Seriously check out ‘ILS’ I think I mean more where you think this might actually happen to you in real life.

  29. Keyser

Old Boy was quality if only for his Dragon Punch, bit drawn out by the end, though did end up watching it in the early hours after a night out.

  30. Lurch LeRouge

good old school tune that Suga, chris cunningham’s prob my favourite video director, if you ever get the chance check out his live VJ shows, mind blowing.

  31. Robin's Choco Leg Special

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0296042/ <<< ichi the killer. The anime Takeshi Mike did as a prelude is also quite disturbing…

the japs have free creative license when doing films… They go way ott sometimes…

I'm a big Takeshi Kitano fan… If you haven't seen his version of Zatoichi, I highlt reccomend it..

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0363226/

Incesc – That visitor q is another mental film…

some of theie stuff is obscenely grotesque…

legend of the overfiend (chojin densetsu Urotsukidoji) is another extreme example

    http://www.imdb.com/media/rm895852288/tt0108461

  32. Robin's Choco Leg Special

Lurch – I prefer Shirow’s earlier stuff he did with appleseed, ad police and dominion tank police…

Not really a fan of the ghost in the shell OVA’s… The films though are very complex and require a great detail of attention and intelligence, otherwise half the ramblings fly over your head…

  33. Robin's Choco Leg Special

    waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalker……….

    waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalker………

    thunderdome was shite

  34. incesc

    that overfiend film sounds nuts!

    :)

    probably give it a miss.

kitano films are great, violent cop and all that.

i like lucas moodyson as well for arthouse stuff, lilya forever was pretty powerful.

  35. Lurch LeRouge

yeah RCLS alll the offshoots were too self referential but the original ghost for me is unsurpassed on a graphic level, the cells are truly epic.

used to like the demonic manka stuff in the mid 90′s but i can’t remember any titles…. probably too stoned.

  36. Robin's Choco Leg Special

incesc – it’s worth a watch (legend of the overfiend) just to see how far they took it back in ’89… It created a shit storm back then over here similar to cannibal holocaust on the video nasty front…

Channel 4 had a mini documentary about it… They then showed the film afterwards cutting 45 minutes from it

  37. incesc

yeah who am i kidding, i wanna see that shit!

one film i probably wont watch is a serbian film. my mate did and he says i should watch it but i dont think i can.

    taxidermia? that was weird!

  38. Keyser

Not at Sundance then ? Heh.

Was it worth it ? Wouldn’t mind going to one of these film festivals, do you have to trawl througj loads of drivel or can you pick and choose ?!

  39. Robin's Choco Leg Special

was mad on the manga in the 90′s…. Bravo and sci fi channels were magnificent bastions of anime back in the day….

Still a fan now, but not much new really tickles my fancy.. It’s all a bit teen terrifix these days..

Soul Easter was a recent good ova…

Hokuto no ken (fist of the north star) is still may favourite….

“You don’t seem to understand you’re already dead!”

    *high pitched noise*

    head, limbs and bodies explode

    excellent!

  40. Lurch LeRouge

    Haven’t been to sundance,

to be honest I just happened to be in Toronto at the time before a job and the chick i was hanging with was big into banksy – being a londoner I was a tad ‘over’ him, but the film really regenerated my interest so I’d defo recommend it, its a good laugh – doesn’t take himself too seriously which is refreshing.

as for film festivals, no you pick and choose and they are great. The NFT’s festival is a great shout as is onedotzero if your into progressive stuff….

  41. Keyser

Kind of like these real-life documentaries, interesting and hold your attention without going to extremes.

Catfish came on tv a few weeks back, about Facebook and so on, always wonder if they’re faked or not.

  42. JonTron

i think we should keep cesc and nasri, sign up some new blood and sell the dead weight…no point in getting rid of our best players regardless of where their heads at, IMO.

  43. Lurch LeRouge

yeah exactly, the great think about ‘exit’ is its not really about him, more a pisstake on mr brainwash.

haven’t seen catfish im afraid, but on a different tangent the film/doco ‘man on a wire’ is excellent and engaging on a few levels.

  44. Keyser

“Irréversible certainly can’t be classified as ‘entertainment’, that’s for sure. It merely looks like a brutal eye-opener, highly unpleasant to watch at times and it sometimes makes you even feel ashamed to be human! Some of the stuff here goes beyond your most feared nightmares and could easily provoke depression, anti-social behavior and anxiety among influential viewers.”

Review from imdb, having second thoughts about watching this, ‘Man on the wire’ sounds far better.

Unless it’s cheesewire and it ends with him being sliced in half.

  45. incesc

i dont see how a film can cause anti social behaviour.

    :)

it is the most disturbing film ive seen and ive seen a lot of extreme films, but i do also think its a great film

  46. incesc

didnt like that film lurch, apparently the book is good.

i am a casey affleck fan though, gone baby gone was great

  47. Lurch LeRouge

weird coincidence – a film on film 4 now (5×2), plays backwards and starts with a sausage theme!?

    what has QoS started!?

  48. Lurch LeRouge

yeah it wasn’t great, I didn’t see the point of the brutality. hideous really. but Casey kind of redeemed it, as he did in ‘jesse james…’

yeah gonebaby was great, i read all the books years ago – dark shit.

  49. Lurch LeRouge

oh and clockwork orange caused anti social behaviour – its why stanley pulled it from the box office after a few days.

  50. Keyser

I think generally we’ve just got a bunch of sausage fiends on here.

Never watched Clockwork Orange, remember being younger and being told if you truly understand the film you’re a bit fucked up really.

  51. Lurch LeRouge

quite possibly a few sausages yes.

its a great film, it caused more of a stir than it deserved – postwar england at the time was probably still a little sensitive to it. Its worth a watch but you probably end up wondering what all the fuss was about. Rollerball in 75 was a load more violent but didn’t really cause any kind of backlash.

Kubrik’s films require dedication and patience i think, you’ve really got to study each frame to appreciate his mastery.

the irony of it now is that the UK has a much higher tolerance to violence to the US. The Killer inside me for instance showed on one screen in the states and 76 over here and took milliions more.

    anyhow, gonna do one.

    laters.

  52. zeus

Kenton failing will make Cleveland feel good.

F*ck Kroenke and Usmanov, can we convince Mark Cuban to take us over?

  53. (bernard) bade the gooner

    congratulations to dalas mavericks

they are a well deserved nba champions

really happy for nowitzky & kidd & marion. they all deserve a nba championship

    & i’m a lakers fan …….

  54. (bernard) bade the gooner

    hahaha

now that’s really haunting me their

the miami coach talking about mental strength of his team……

    hilarious!

  55. James gunner xyz

We know what the gunners could have achieved last season if Wenger had bought epl instead of French league players. He is obssessed with cost. The players he buys and sells are according to his own estimate of the market value. In other words sells high buys low.
The fans better not be surprised if he continues this trend. He may go for the cheaper version of gk,defenders and others. The result will be back to sqaure and not back to the future.I firmly believe he better get his act right this time Failure won’t be tolerated and he could be finally axed by Apri l 2012 or even by Xmas 2011 if the gunners are on a bad run of results.Football is a results game not weaving pretty patterns and eye catching ballet like movement where thegunners lose or draw.
