Almunia spotted in Ibiza | Neymar / Hazard should be on agenda

So… There I am, cutting some shapes in Ibiza and in rolls Mr Almunia, minus his stupid cat dog. He was pretty upset about his poor form this year but as long as he has a bottle of bleach and some accepting friends, he’s happy.

Farewell sir… It’s been painful.

News filtered through that Tom Cruise had been told he was surplus to requirements, I can imagine he’s going through a cocktail of emotions right now but if I’m being frank, winning a contract was always going to be mission impossible as he was hardly a top gun…still, hopefully another club will show him the money elsewhere.

I’m sat here taking in your applause before I move onto the next paragraph.

In other news, Sportingo, the site famous for headlines like…

‘Jeepers creepers, surely Arsenal wouldn’t spend £50million on this man’

… Have reemerged with a rumour that Roma are interested in taking on Clichy in a swap deal for Di Rossi. Now as much as I like swap deals, I really do struggle to see Arsene pulling off something as ambitious as that, or Roma agreeing to it.

I do get agitated that so many poor websites profit from
desperate football fans seeking out transfer news. I wouldn’t mind if they were providing top match reports and opinion during the season but half these sites on pop up only for the summer…

I read that Monaco found themselves relegated, what a fall from grace eh? One moment they’re sunning themselves in the Champions League final, then they sell Adebayor and it all goes tits up. Bad luck, I’ll miss them, but their spirit will live on in our away kit.

The transfer window opens tomorrow night from midnight and hopefully this will be an exciting one. Geoff referred to Neymar and Hazard and I can’t help but wish we’d go in for one of them,

They’re both incredibly talented, they both have consistency, achievement and youth on their side and I can’t help but think players like them don’t come around so often, if they cost £25mill now, there is a good chance that in 2 seasons time they’ll be worth double.

For me, they could be the catalyst for great things. Maradona was that man for Napoli, Eric Cantona moving to United sparked their revolution and more recently Barca took a punt on a man called Ronaldinho who brought back the glory days.

Wenger knows Hazard is a massive talent, he’s said so, if he’s available, we should be in for him. The same with Neymar. We either have the clout to compete with Chelsea like Wenger said last summer, or he’s lying…we need to make a signing of intent… A new Bergkamp for a stagnant side.

Well, we have 6 weeks to make that move.

Who has the faith?

    hilarious pic there, mate….
a full post from pedro without any revolutionary/exceptionally English phrases? that’s new
hope you had a great time there

  2. Wenger the liar

    Pedro -

Great post and exactly how I feel about signing a player who will re ignite the team, not a doyle but a world beater someone who can do something out of nothing.

An arsene interview last night where he makes some sense, he is still making “we will only sign world class” noises but amungst the usual crap (of which there is far less than normal) he talks a good one too. If he is in SA to sign Neymar that would make my summer. However if we end up with Ricky and Samba you know we will win fuck all next year.

  3. bade the gooner (bernard)

anyway, before getting back to my f****d up work, i’ll just say this rumour re clichy/de rossi would be some blessing for us, if it becomes reality.
    it’s two birds with 1 stone….
i believe a player of de rossi’s calibre plus changing to 4-4-2 formation & sacking arsene, would be enought to get us the title next season, even if we don’t add any others (but still clear the deadwood – denilson. rosicky, almunia, eboue, squillaci, bendtner, diaby – & bring back few adequate loanees – lansbury, coquilen, afobe)

  4. John

Sorry but Daniel De rossi is rubbish!

Never been impressed with him and this season hes gone mental and awol!

He makes felipe melo look like a saint!

  5. Moray

John, I will concede 50% of that. de Rossi IS mental, but he’s not rubbish.

I think we need a bit of that it our engine. Remember the fuss with Vieira when he joined us? The guy couldn’t stop picking up red cards. But he was a catalyst for us with his passion and energy. I think de Rossi would be greta for us. He needs a change of environment and I think he would enjoy the more hands-on Premiership compared to Serie A.

Add to that Neymar, Hazard, a 30 something keeper and a non-shit CB and we are well on the way…(however I am not predicting that any of this will happen!)

  6. Jerry

So it’s the last day before “The Window” opens and whilst all around us strengthen we will be teased with names that should but wont come. We will look on with envy as the top 3 play Monopoly whilst we’re left to play Snakes & Ladders with the likes of Everton & Swansea(who will no doubt show some ambition).

Rumours will fly around with the most likely being about players leaving rather than quality arriving. I’m going to deal with it differently this year, if we aint signed a quality 1st team player in the next 3 weeks then I will give up hope of doing so. I can’t be dealing with the futile hope of a late marquee arrival as it simply wont happen, 3 weeks is more than enough faith to offer I feel.

Spend some serious money you fuckers….Pleeease.

  7. Man

Hope you tapped that arse in the pic Pedro… no not the bleached hair one the fine arse totty on the side…

Neymar sounds good by all accounts. Frankly, I wouldn’t mind Nilmar either

Somehow I still can’t see us making that mega bucks signing many crave…hope I’m wrong though

  8. Moray

Italians are mummy’s boys. I remember the official complaints at the Euros in 96 by the Italian team about the lack of hair dryers in the changing rooms. Fortunately, this is nothing we would have to worry about with DR. Plus, he is under huge pressure at Roma because the have a habit of deifying their heros. He would be much more free. And remember we are a LONDON team, not stuck away in Cheshire or some hole like that, so he could feel at home…

  9. Walking Wounded

    Mornin’ All

I am just getting my blood pressure down, from last season, and was looking forward to a quiet summer, watching England Cricket Team looking professional and capable, and then you tell me that…

    THE TRANSFER WINDOW OPENS TOMORROW.

Arsene and Arsenal are starting to stress me out already. Especially as we all know that we need to sign players early, and I heard yesterday that Wenger is on holiday.

    AARRGGGHH!

    It’s starting again..

    Where’s Jimbo, my psychologist?

  10. Skandibird

Hallelujah Hallelujah – Pedro, I do have the faith (waving arms in the air)

One can’t but have ‘some’ sort of faith in the club doing the right thing this summer, otherwise you might as well give up….. so, when I wake up on Wednesday morning, full of hope, I shall look forward to reading the papers quoting Arsenal are in talks with;; blah blah & blah blah……….

  11. arsenal fan

one thing for sure neymar is of to chelsea for 25 mil and he said he only joins champions and for hazard he will say wait dont we have miyachi and we are doomed
de rossi is a good player havent seen him play much but one thing if joins anyother club he will give his 200% plus a good leader

  12. Walking Wounded

    Scholes has retired!!!!

Goodbye to a good passer and an evil tackler who got away with murder!

  13. Joker

Wenger splurging cash on Hazard/Neymar? Come on legrove surely you had existed long enough to know this won’t came true. We will be fooled and lead by the nose again by Wenger with all the incredible rumours signings and we will end up with some unknown stars dig from some unknown land.

  14. Moray

it’s not the transfer window opening date we need to concern ourselves with, it’s the closing date. Expect all our ridiculous and/or risible and/or geriatric signings to take place then, when it’s too late to flog them back under the 30 day return for broken or mis-sold goods Act.

  15. Big Dave

Not missed Arsenal at all, the play off’s were good as was the CL final and even the cricket, the stress is off, nothing to worry about till August now

  16. wardo

    WW @ 09:30

Good. I hated that little ginger shit !! Everytime i saw him leave his studs in a tackle i used to pray someone would break his leg like Eduardo/Ramsey had………sods law that that little tossa got away with it but good blokes like Eduardo/Ramsey received disgraceful tackles……

    no justice i tell ya

  17. namibiangooner

in the two or three years since i discovered legrove, i have hardly missed a post but i have missed alot of post in the last 3 months just because on wenger’s stubornness. thanks alot Mr Wneger for making me feel that way about my beloved club and blog.

  18. Hapinem bye wenger

hi fellow gunners hope we are not going to start from were we stop last transfer window were we ended up wi’t worst dan wat we have centre backs hope dis f**kers will for once add quality to dis squard and not pain and dushbaggerss but let us not hope too much cos wenger is a selfish bast*ard who believes no player is worth more than 1million so lets hope hazard is worth less than dat but dat is only in wenger’s dream

  19. turn

i guess wenger can hear the menacing mob of fans after all.. but honestly, its still hard to believe wenger anymore. on the eve of an important transfer window, that man’d say anything to get a decent/quiet three-week break before he has to think of a new lie..

  20. Marcus

Have you guys become delusional or what? How can you even consider the possibility of Arsene signing either Neymar or Hazard? It will NEVER happen. He will sign Alvarez or some shitty local third choice because he reckons that’s where he can make the most profit. (and claim credit if they turn good).

Players like Neymar and Hazard will end up just like Affelay and Canales benchwarmers in Barca, Real. (or chelsea, city, man utd)…

Arsene will sign some guy we never heard of, he will be young, have potential, no leadership skills, no experience. And of course, he will suck 9 out of 10 games…

And we will finish 4th in the league, if not worse..

    Wenger OUT!

  21. Hapinem bye wenger

lets i forget pls guys let stop saying in wenger i believe cos some fans are the major reasons why he keeps repeating the same mistake. cos they support lord sh*t asene fu*k wenger

  22. namibiangooner

what has he done to earn a holiday? he must fix the mess he created first. how can he even think about going for holidays. the board members are a bunch of muppets for allowing that.

  23. Arse&Nose©

he says he is scouting in south america whilst on holiday

might he bump into ricardo alvarez?

  24. Charlie

Eden Hazard, the youngest ever Ligue 1 player of the year at 20yo. Zidane had to wait 4 more years before he won it, Drogba was 26 and even the great Thierry Henry who never won it won only Young Player of the Year at 20. I agree that this player must be destined to be up there with Messi and Ronaldo so Arsene must do whatever it takes to get him. He is apparently interested in coming to Arsenal above all others so losing out on him to a rival team will just be proof that the club lacks ambition. If he wants to stay at Lille and play Champions League football sign him and loan him back but get the kid signed up quick.

  25. Moray

Charlie, if Hazard is interested in joining the current Arsenal team, then he must have no ambition and we should question if he is right for us.

  26. Charlie

Moray, the club say that most of the money earnt from selling Toure and Adebayour in 2009 (41m) is still available for transfers. Arsene said last summer that he didn’t find the right players to spend it on so let’s give him another summer when we know the right players are available and see what he does before judging whether there’s any ambition. Many fans are criticising him for buying nobody when the transfer window isn’t even open yet.

  27. Charlie

OH NO Marcus 4th in the league. You’re obviously too young to know of a time when European qualification for Arsenal seemed like a once-in-a-lifetime experience rather than a minimum expectation. Spoilt brats the lot of you Arsene haters, don’t know how lucky you are. “This great club is being ruined, we should be winning trophies” does that sound familiar ? Perhaps if you looked at the history prior to Wenger you’d realise that “this great club” was never previously supported by you glory-hunters because it was never as big as it is now.

  28. SurferX

I know Big Dave has already linked it- but the swissramble article today is essential reading for all you munglers. It covers a lot of themes that regularly crop up on here…

  29. SurferX

    On Commercial Income:
One area that has really restricted Arsenal’s ability to operate at the higher end of the transfer market is their woeful commercial income of £44 million… It’s not overly dramatic to say that Arsenal leave over £30 million a season on the table… Arsenal have restructured their commercial team at great expense, recruiting Tom Fox from the NBA in August 2009, but to be perfectly candid they have not delivered much to date. In fact, commercial revenue actually fell £4 million in 2009/10. They might argue that their hands are tied with the long-term deals, but if that is the case, what was the point in hiring such costly executives? In any case, they should be able to work freely on secondary sponsor deals, which has been an important source of United’s impressive growth. When the interim results were announced, Gazidis said that fans would “begin to see some results over the next year” – let’s hope so.

  30. SurferX

    On FFP:
Over the next two seasons, a club will only be allowed to make an aggregate loss of €45 million, but that assumes that the owner covers the loss, which has not been the modus operandi at Arsenal to date. Otherwise, the acceptable deviation is only €5 million…

Even Wenger mentioned that his policy might be about to change: “The market will be hyperactive because everyone believes financial fair play will happen soon. So we are quickly doing the last buying before the stores will be closed. And for the first time for a while, I will be very active too.” Although this is encouraging news to many fans, it is a little worrying to us financial types, as it implies that Wenger does not full appreciate that the resulting amortisation from buying new players will be included in UEFA’s break-even calculation – somewhat surprising, as he has a master’s degree in economics.

  31. gunzsp

hmm interesting news conference from valencia coach Unia emery
he basically said that coming 3rd and going into the champions league ever year is not good enough.
    if only wenger had ambition

  32. SurferX

    On Players Wages:
Arsenal’s wage bill of £111 million is still substantially less than Chelsea (£173 million), Manchester City (£133 million) and Manchester United (£132 million), but it is also a lot higher than the chasing pack. In particular, it is a hefty £44 million more than Tottenham (£67 million), who finished just one place lower in the Premier League.

They have a large squad and, while the wages at the top end might not be the highest, the fringe players like Denilson and Rosicky are handsomely awarded, as are the young players.

This is a policy that is worth reviewing, as a degree of complacency would appear to have set in at this level and some judicious pruning of the dead wood could free up wages for a couple of genuine world class talents. In addition, it would be worth introducing a higher element of performance-related pay to concentrate the collective mind on striving to win trophies.

Clearly, wages are a massively significant factor when it comes to signing new players, even though that great sage Jamie Redknapp has ludicrously asserted that “you can’t get cheaper than a free transfer.” For example, Marouane Chamakh cost the Gunners nothing when he arrived from Bordeaux, but a five-year deal on a reported £50,000 a week represents a £12.5 million commitment. That said, any increase in the wage bill from incoming players could be largely met by the reductions from departing players, so this argument cuts both ways.

Most Arsenal fans would agree that there’s no shortage of candidates that could depart with minimal impact, though the most likely to go are Denilson and Nicklas Bendtner, who have both openly spoken of their desire to leave and could raise around £16 million.

  33. SurferX

    On the Cost of Failure:
Arsenal’s distribution in 2010/11 has increased by £4.5 million to £56.3 million, even though they finished one place lower in the Premier League.

Not only has Arsenal’s deterioration in April and May devastated the club’s fans, but it has also hurt their bank balance. The immediate impact of dropping from second to fourth place means that their Premier League merit payment is £1.5 million lower, but the damage does not stop there, as it also has an effect on money from next season’s Champions League.

The revenue distribution from UEFA comprises participation fees, prize money plus an allocation of the market (TV) pool, which is split 50% between progress in the Champions League and 50% based on the club’s finish in the previous season’s Premier League.

For England, assuming that four clubs reach the group stages, the latter element is divided as follows: 40% to club finishing first in Premier League, 30% for second, 20% for third and 10% for fourth. This year, that process resulted in the club finishing second in 2008/09 (Manchester United) receiving £10.6 million, while the club that finished fourth (Spurs) got £3.5 million – a difference of £7.1 million. This will be mitigated to some extent by the gate receipts from Arsenal’s qualifying match, but that brings other potential problems.

Speaking of the Champions League, Arsenal’s failure to win the group last season, due to pitiful defeats against Shakhtar Donetsk and Braga also cost them dear. First, each win in the group stage is worth €800,000, while a draw brings a club €400,000. Then, if Arsenal had won the group and avoided Barcelona, they might well have reached the quarter-finals, which would have been worth another €3.3 million prize money and €1.3 million from the market pool progress allocation. Let’s assume Arsenal had pulled their collective finger out, drawn the last two group games and reached the quarter-final. That would have been worth an additional €5.4 million (or £4.6 million).

  34. SurferX

    On Wenger’s musings…
There do seem to be some mixed messages coming out of North London these days. On the one hand, Wenger attributes his unwillingness to spend to a profoundly held belief in his policy, “You cannot come to a conclusion that this team needs a massive change. We are there, but because we have not won trophies, people destroy us completely.” However, this sounds terribly similar to his words last summer, when he argued, “I feel we have made huge steps forward this year compared to last year.”

On the other hand, he sometimes implies that his hands are tied financially, “Even if people say you have to spend money, we have to be realistic. We can’t buy players for £50 million. That is a fact.” However, there are several arguments against this perspective: (a) few sensible supporters want Arsenal to spend that much on one player; (b) very good players can be bought for much smaller sums, e.g. Mesut Ozil, Nuri Sahin and Rafael Van der Vaart; (c) as we have seen, money is available to improve the squad, probably around £50 million.

Indeed, Wenger himself seemed to suggest that was the case, saying that the club has the resources to secure the services of a top talent. While his priority might be to keep his star players, he has also admitted that he wants to strengthen, though this does not necessarily imply lots of comings and goings, “It’s not the number, it’s the quality.” That might not be such a bad outcome for Arsenal fans. If the club does manage to buy 3-4 proven, world class players with the requisite winning mentality, that could make an enormous difference to such a young team.

For many years Wenger was effectively fighting with one arm tied behind his back, due to the financial constraints imposed by building the new stadium, but the club now has sufficient funds available to spend again, albeit not at stratospheric levels, without compromising its sustainable model.

They need to do something, because one thing is certain: if you keep doing the same thing, you’ll keep getting the same results.

  35. Charlie

@SurferX. Wenger understands the FFP regulations better than you do. It is 45m euro losses permitted over 2 years from 2013-2014, 45m euros over 3 years from 2014-2015 and from then on 30m euros over 3 years. That means there is no consideration of the 2011-2012 season, the 2012-2013 season is considered along with the 2013-2014 season in the first year that the regulations take effect. This summer is the last summer that teams can buy players without considering the cost in their allowable losses.

  36. Gavqatar

Charlie you muppet. It is Arsenal FC not Arsene FC. The club was great before Wenger and will be great after. You obviously didn’t support Arsenal before Wenger or you wouldn’t come out with such a ridiculous comment.

  37. SurferX

Basic lack of accounting knowledge Charlie. PLayer acquisitions need to be amortised. That means, if you spend £25m on a player on a 5 year contract, your accounts (and under FFP rules) 5m would need to be included as an amortised cost in the accounts each year.

Furthermore, the allowable losses you mention also refer to losses that are written off by the owners- something that Kroenke has expressed no desire to do so far.

  38. R.S.P.C.Arsenal

so correct me if i’m wrong but how many players have we tried at Left Back. over the last few years.. i can recall all of these statting at LB

    paulhino
    clichy
    eboube
    gallas
    cruise
    gibbs
    sagna

now thats a lot of players in a short space of time… bearing in mind in the 80′s and 90-’s we had

    nelson
    sansom
    winetrburn
    cole

LB is a problem area for us!

  39. goonerDNA

I posted that sportingo article yesterday on here I did say its a far off rumour but 1 I’ll entertain

  40. henry14

Charlie, people like you make me physically sick.

Not because you have your principles etc..etc..but because you feel that anyone that doesn’t agree with you is a mug – when in actual fact it’s dinosaur cunts like you that are the mugs.

Every time Arsene opens his mouth it makes me angry, love the man for what he has given us but it’s time for change.

I’m not going to apologies for wanting more – especially not when we pay the highest ticket prices in Europe!!!

Your problem is that your argument would be valid if our tickets were the same price as Chelsea or Utd but they aren’t – so that’s why 4th isn’t acceptable.

  41. Charlie

Gavqatar if you’re using the word muppet and are old enough to know Arsenal before Wenger it’s time to grow up. I went to my first match in 1982 when i was 6 which doesn’t make me an old-timer but it does mean that i was around for the genuinely bad times. I didn’t support the club because it won trophies, it’s in the blood and what Wenger has done for the club is immense. I bet you started supporting the club when they were champions, because they were champions. We don’t need fans like that because you care only about trophies. If you think that’s what makes a real fan you are accusing 99% of football fans around the world of being fake fans, seems pretty ridiculous to me.

  42. Gooby

    Pedro

there’s an add with critiana popping up just below the post. the wanker’s face’s really annoying

  43. Charlie

henry 14, i dont’ agree with you so i’m a cunt hey. Dumb hypocrite. I was expressing an opinion, it’s you who’s come on a blog splurting obscenities and showing what a chav you are

  44. henry14

Charlie – when you start spouting that shit about how you have been going since 1982 and about how we aren’t true supporters because we demand trophies etc..etc..

    It’s a load of bollox.

I got my season ticket in 1987 and i still have my views – i respect yours but don’t force them on other people because they don’t buy into all the wenger spin you do.

  45. dennisdamenace

    Pedders you Mungler.

The transfer window doesn’t open until the 9th fella.

    I got this email from the FA this morning;

scholes retires, goes into the coaching staff,if only Wenger done the same with our legends then at least the bunch off overpaid gutless bastards we have playing for us now could learn the importance off playing for Arsenal.

  47. Tarquin Wetherby-Smythe

Yep, having The Merse teach our youngsters how to better invest their money would definitely be a great idea.

  48. Arse&Nose©

According to Arseblogger the 6% ticket rise will bring in the same sum of money that the club would have got if it had finished 3rd instead of 4th.

watching some henry and bergkamps clips and honestly this group of players should try and emulate this guys to know what playing for arsenal is all about.Nobody scores curlers like bergkamp used to,nobody scores inspirational goals like henry used to,most of our players don’t what it means to the fans to beat teams like the spuds.

  54. gazzap

Just seen we could end up with a tricky trip to Kiev in the CL qualifier. Others are Udinese, Panathinaikos, Twente Eshende or Standard Liege.

  55. mjgooner

    ‘In Arsene I trust’…..anyone who doesnt is a muppet/mug/cunt
‘I can never bring myself to trust Wenger’……anyone who does is a muppet/mug/cunt

Thus invariably we are all MUPPETS/MUGS/CUNTS…….but since we are all ARSENAL FANS/SUPPORTERS at the end of the day despite our varied opinions, it seems to me then that ARSENAL FANS are all MUPPETS/MUGS/CUNTS.

  56. pmj-gunz7

This exactly what have been saying, i like Falcao & Benzema but i believe Neymar’s better than both.
Fans keep chattering about how we need a ‘fox in the box’ but i disagree, we need a striker who is not afraid to attack and strike from any position.
Falcoa is good but he’ll b inactive without supplies but Neymar only will hustle and he’s still very young( you can call him ‘a kid’ at your own peril).
I know he wants chelsea, that doesn’t mean we can’t have him eg Villa wanted us but is in Barcelona.
With Neymar we wouldn’t need Hazard and we can have space to integrate our young guns like Ryo slowly. Buy Mersecker and the team is set.
Sell Rosicky, Bendtnar, Diaby, Denilson, Almunia.

  57. wardo

anyone seen the rumours bout Berbatov ??

Apparently Newcastle will match utd price of £7.5mil for him.

£7.5mil ?? he is this years EPL top scorer isn’t he.
I would like Arsene to try a sneaky one…….if he was friends with Pardew he could get him to buy berba for £7.5mil and sell him to Arsenal for £8.5mil

Newcastle get £1mil and we get a player for around 10mil less than Utd would sell him to us for (if they would sell to us at all!!)

  58. WTL Gazidis £1.7m Per Annum - Cause Hes Worth It!

Nicklas Bendtner is worth €11million (£9.6m), according to the Arsenal striker’s father.

The Denmark international has been linked with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich amid manager Arsene Wenger’s ongoing interest in Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema.

But Bendtner’s father and agent, Thomas, does not believe that the forward would leave Emirates Stadium in a cut-price deal.

Bendtner has himself never been shy in talking up his own ability and his dad believes that the player is worth a fee of just less than £10m.

“One hundred million crowns (approx €11million),” Thomas Bendtner told Danish newspaper B.T when asked about Nicklas’ valuation.

“He has been valued higher before. But of course, if you are on the bench the price goes down.

“Nicklas has the qualities to live up to this sum and we can certainly find a club that is willing to pay.”

Charlie, if Hazard is interested in joining the current Arsenal team, then he must have no ambition and we should question if he is right for us.
    ============================================

It’s a pity when Arsenal “fans” make statements like the above.

Charlie, while i see your point and respect it, I wouldn’t be an ardent “Arsene Wenger is great for us” neither would i spout shit out the mouth about how he has ruined our beloved club…
Can’t understand the 2 extremes….Arsenal before Wenger was never this big! FACT, but only the “arm-chair” ‘Lagos\New York\Delhi etc’ fan would appreciate that we are indeed a big club or a few glory hunters would hate the current situation….No Arsenal has never been near relegation or been rotting in mid table form before…We’ve always rivaled Juventus, Real for UCL glory…..smh

  62. R.S.P.C.Arsenal

amazing… on their website they give no telephone number… now with one day for renewasl they send an email and guess what they have a telephone number to call…

i reckon they are getting desparate.. maybe meany are not renewing their season tickets!

  63. R.S.P.C.Arsenal

dale … msay i remeind you of 1976.. we toyed with relegation untill the last two gaes of the season!

  64. DaleDaGooner

RSPC, Yep, and I wonder if that was today what would be the consensus, I bet some folks would love that if it meant “Wenger out”….I have a question, say Wenger leaves today, and next season who ever is everyone’s favorite takes over and we drop to 6th, how would the “Wenger out” brigade feel? what would the “In Arsene we trust” brigade say? There would be more “mug” calling “mug” chants i suppose.

  65. wardo

    Dale

Do you want Wenger out ?? I don’t.

I want change though. Want Arsenal to splash the cash and Wenger giong back to challenging for honours.

I think if Wenger was to leave, Arsenal stand a chance of dropping down the table slightly…….then imagine the hatred of some toward Arsene if that happened.

Just spend our money Arsenal !!

I think we will make a few signings this summer although, I am not too convinced that Squilaci will leave cause its his first season !!! I am not sure le boss is ready to admit every cock up from the last few seasons all in one go……….if he does get rid then that is some sign of intent !!…..and admittance i might add

  66. ardentgooner

German Eurosport colleagues reported that Diego Benaglio (Keeper of VFL Wolfsburg) received an offer from Arsenal.

  67. ardentgooner

    Wardo

a player can move only once in a given transfer window…so berbatov to newcastle to arsenal not possible.

  68. ardentgooner

German Eurosport colleagues reported that Diego Benaglio (Keeper of VFL Wolfsburg) received an offer from Arsenal.

The Wolfsburger Allgemeinen Zeitung reports that the Swiss international keeper could be on his way to the Emirates, with Manuel Almunia going the other way as part of the deal.

  69. R.S.P.C.Arsenal

why now after all these years are they giving god tickets acess to arsenal online… should have done it years ago!

another case of too little too late!

  70. Doo Woop

    Neymar.. not gonna happen

He doesnt want to play in england, and if he would, its absolutely expensive for Wenger and also Chelsea would leapfrog us on that

If we dropped to sixth because the new man was rebuilding and he had to get rid of a lot of players in order to do so but we could see progress towards his vision then fine.

If we finished sixth and the new man was talking about mental strength and 1-2% away for dominating, then not so fine.

Finishing fourth and playing in a tournament that we have no chance of winning every year holds no mythical charm for me although for others it does. Although I know the fiscal benifit of CL football.

    My two cents.

  72. DaleDaGooner

wardo…I agree with you, Yes I’d love for the stubborn man to use this season to admit he has been wrong, and something tells me he will actually cede to the pressures, but to want him out when we are this close, is critical, in order to do well after he leaves, we would need a massive clear out, and the BOARD, would not help matters, they’ll never go for a clear out and replace project…it’s never done! At least by the Arsenal board, Kroenke would never sanction a major rebuild…so lets calm down and see how this season goes, I for one, saw Arsene crack on his stubbornness last term, and i believe he’ll crack further and make some changes for next season.

  73. DaleDaGooner

WTL….dropping to 6th in todays scheme of things, in any league, is suicidal, my two cents….With Man City, Spuds, Liverpool and more other teams vying for top 4, do you honestly think we will get back within 6 years?? Do you honestly think new manager or not, we drop out, we’d be playing CL?? I fear dropping out at all, for the sake of getting 2-3 quality signings…Tha’s all Wenger needs to do this season, and while i won’t comment on the Neymars, Hazards and co to improve us, I want to believe Wenger is seeing the threat if he doesn’t change his playing tactics…what i want most is Wenger laying the final ground work this coming season, then shift upstairs, a la Johan Cruyff, and we get someone in, younger and can take us over that hump…Whther you hate him or not, he has set us up for good things, we just need a little push, the board….ball is in your court sirs!

  74. DaleDaGooner

WTL….I love being a part of the CL….there is glamour in seeing your team in their and your enemy not being invited to the party “evil grin” Spuds!

  75. wardo

Ardent, it was more of a joke than a serious comment.

Although, I would like to see Berba at Arsenal for that price, wouldn’t you?

  76. WTL Gazidis £1.7m Per Annum - Cause Hes Worth It!

    Dale -

You asked the question “what you think is we dropped to sixth” I only answered the question.

There is also a chance that a new man could come in and better motivate the current squad while adding to it and we dont drop out the top four. It wouldnt take much to improve the motivation levels of the current squad based on the performances this year.

Anyway this is all bollocks because AW is in the job for another year at least. Lets see who he adds this summer because if he doesnt change his approach this time next year we could be looking at a change of manager for real.

  77. Doo Woop

    not only fiscal, mate.

It will actually make us more attractive to the best players in the market, while having the money to buy them, even knowing that AW has aversion for spending money

  78. zeus

    ************

Classic. HAd to stop reading just to point that out.

  79. zeus

Not really a fan of Sanchez. Remember seeing him at the U20 WC Canada in 2007, where he showed talent he was quite petulant and sulky.

A bit ‘show boaty’ like CR7 was when he first went to United, no end product.

To be fair its 4 yyears on and I’ve seen little of him since. Strikes me as a bit inconsistent like Mauro Zarate,

  80. WTL Gazidis £1.7m Per Annum - Cause Hes Worth It!

    LOL Doo Woop.

regarding attracting best players, I was going to say it but I read the whole of your post.

I could live without CL football for 5 years if it meant that on the 6th year we actually entered a team that could win it. From a personal point of view.

  81. gooner

    Its quiet on here today.

Just read that swiss ramble article, its very good if you need to kill some time

  82. dare

Eden Hazard is the name.he is the next superstar. We can’t have Messi ou Ronaldo. But we can have Hazard. He is as good as anyone of them.Or at least he can be like them with us.Wenger said we need world class players to reinforce our team.I believe Hazard should world class player is talking about.

  83. Arse&Nose©

If Eden Hazard was called something else would he be as popular?

I just watched a compilation of his best bits from 2010/11 season and imagined he was called Jeffery Mpongo and it doesn’t look as impressive.

    http://youtu.be/9AKdexeocfo

  84. Kushagra India

Howdy Grovers just couldn’t post for a while, just wanted to say having watched the Barca –Manure game I again reiterate our Cbs are not the problem our lack of midfield runners is so I completely agree with Keyser when he says we need 2-3 atheltic fast players….

  85. phv

Eden Hazard is good. I prefer Iker Muniain. It seems like both are the same but with different names and Muniain is cheaper.

  86. duvee

I think one thing that is forgotten when signing players is mental attributes. If Football manager was real life then players like CLichy, Bendtner, Eboue, Diaby, Song and Djourou would have high attribute ratings in all the technical and physical attributes but would have 1s in determination, infleunce, aggression, etc. etc. which are equally important. Is Hazard yet another one of these players which will just compund the mental issues within the Arsenal team? We need 3 players with a winning mentality. And for godsake get rid of Almunia, Denilson, Squillaci and Rosicky who don’t bring skill or mental to the table.

  87. phv

We don’t have to sell Fabregas,Song and Fabianski. The rest I agree. Squillaci will not be sold because that was only his first season. Wenger does not sell players only after their first seasons. Squillaci has 2 more years on his contract and he is 4th choice. If the other defenders don’t get injured, he will not play. Kyle Bartley will soon take his place anyway.

  88. arsenal4ever

Diego Benaglio is pretty shit. Had a great season in 2009 but this was a shit one. As replacement for Almunia I wouldnt mind.

  89. DaleDaGooner

phv….Iker Muniain is ok, BUT I’d prefer Eden Hazard..he has a cooler name…oh did i mention, that he is better? Besides, Iker plays like Alvarez who we are currently trying to wrestle away from Velez.

  90. frenchie

if you are going for a bilbao player, go for llorente. but seeing that neither are coming to arsenal there should be no argument.

  91. JJ

The only transfer I want to see is Wenger Out.

Wenger will not change and therefore we will never see another trophy under him.

  92. Gooner786

    From Twitter

Arsenal will complete the £25 million signing of Belgium International Eden Hazard from Lille early next week. The skilful, 20-year-old playmaker will fill the position soon to be vacated by Samir Nasri, whose departure will be confirmed by his agent, Jean-Pierre Bernes, on Friday.

    More to follow……..

    ——————————–

    WTF!!!!!

  93. JJ

I can see Nasri going to Utd for good money. Cesc will be next to go and then Wenger’s ‘first goal’ of keeping our best players will be down the toilet.

  94. OPG

People really are bored if they spread transfer rumours and to think some of the papers read and copy some.

  95. zeus

    Gooner

bullshit. and plus, is it so wrong to get Hazard and have him AND NASRI vying for the same position.

Some of out lot are too comfortable.

  96. DaleDaGooner

So we sign Bellerin and Toral, people were upset, Chelsea just signed a 17year old, Lucas Piazon, first signing as well, we aren’t so different from other “Big” clubs are we.
