Almunia spotted in Ibiza | Neymar / Hazard should be on agenda

by & filed under Uncategorized.

So… There I am, cutting some shapes in Ibiza and in rolls Mr Almunia, minus his stupid cat dog. He was pretty upset about his poor form this year but as long as he has a bottle of bleach and some accepting friends, he’s happy.

Farewell sir… It’s been painful.

News filtered through that Tom Cruise had been told he was surplus to requirements, I can imagine he’s going through a cocktail of emotions right now but if I’m being frank, winning a contract was always going to be mission impossible as he was hardly a top gun…still, hopefully another club will show him the money elsewhere.

I’m sat here taking in your applause before I move onto the next paragraph.

In other news, Sportingo, the site famous for headlines like…

‘Jeepers creepers, surely Arsenal wouldn’t spend £50million on this man’

… Have reemerged with a rumour that Roma are interested in taking on Clichy in a swap deal for Di Rossi. Now as much as I like swap deals, I really do struggle to see Arsene pulling off something as ambitious as that, or Roma agreeing to it.

I do get agitated that so many poor websites profit from
desperate football fans seeking out transfer news. I wouldn’t mind if they were providing top match reports and opinion during the season but half these sites on pop up only for the summer…

I read that Monaco found themselves relegated, what a fall from grace eh? One moment they’re sunning themselves in the Champions League final, then they sell Adebayor and it all goes tits up. Bad luck, I’ll miss them, but their spirit will live on in our away kit.

The transfer window opens tomorrow night from midnight and hopefully this will be an exciting one. Geoff referred to Neymar and Hazard and I can’t help but wish we’d go in for one of them,

They’re both incredibly talented, they both have consistency, achievement and youth on their side and I can’t help but think players like them don’t come around so often, if they cost £25mill now, there is a good chance that in 2 seasons time they’ll be worth double.

For me, they could be the catalyst for great things. Maradona was that man for Napoli, Eric Cantona moving to United sparked their revolution and more recently Barca took a punt on a man called Ronaldinho who brought back the glory days.

Wenger knows Hazard is a massive talent, he’s said so, if he’s available, we should be in for him. The same with Neymar. We either have the clout to compete with Chelsea like Wenger said last summer, or he’s lying…we need to make a signing of intent… A new Bergkamp for a stagnant side.

Well, we have 6 weeks to make that move.

Who has the faith?

Is there something wrong with this head line???? “Lille – Eden Hazard will not be moving to Arsenal or Tottenham this summer”
===I mean Spuds??? how are they in for Hazard? He doesn’t even know they exist!!

Calm down, Dale. For Hazard, I understand that there are only three options : 1) AFC, 2) Real Madrid (or Milan?), 3) stay put in Lille. Tottenham is a non starter, not in a million years. I would say ‘arry desn’t even know Hazard exists…

  3. JJ

Ok, so maybe he won’t go to Utd – shame for him because SAF would probably have made him into a real winner. It seems obvious that Nasri is holding the club hostage for a payrise.

“We’ve got a little financial disagreement but I’ll try to make him [Nasri] sign a new contract.”

I think Nasri has potential but don’t think he needs more money. These cheekly little ****’s getting away with extortion makes my blood boil. I would sooner sit him in the reserves and send a clear message to anyone else who plays a decent 6 months in 3 years and comes knocking for more money.

  4. luke

Wenger wont buy hazard anyways because he views nasri/arshavin/walcott even bendtner as our wide players. Bendtner will leave, but I doubt Wenger will replace bendtner with a winger. Probably a Striker who can play central or out wide. I would love Hazard though, but the only way I see that happening is if Arsh leaves, or if Wenger has a much needed epiphany that arsh is a second striker, nasri is a CAM, and walcott is a striker

  5. WengersSweeties

Signing Hazard doesn’t solve the problems we have at Arsenal.

The changes Arsene needs to make come from within himself. He needs to scrap the way he’s run things over the last few years and come out with an entirely different approach.

I personally would sell Nasri this summer. Demanding £120k per week for his overall Arsenal performances is an absolute joke and a advert for what’s going wrong at Arsenal at the moment.

The sooner Wenger leaves the club he better…

  6. JJ

I am not sold on Hazard. Do we really need another 5’7″ lightweight in the box for set pieces? Add to that, his work rate has been questioned in past. I think we have enough of those players also…

  7. Gooby

nah JJ hazard would take them he’s that awesome :D

anyone who gets hazard this summer will be very very lucky

  8. DaleDaGooner

JJ, would you not take Messi, cause he is lightweight and another 5’6″ midget? I’mnot saying Hazard is Messi, but he is that close….

Dale – we’re very different from big clubs.

    Big clubs win trophies.
    =============================

Yeah pick and choose what you like to degrade Arsenal.

  10. OPG

Desperate times when we cling to several names we’ve been linked thanks to the media and it’s recycling of rumours.
It’s like every window is a episode of Pinky and the Brain. Pinky: “Gee, Brain, what do you want to do tonight?”
The Brain: “The same thing we do every night, Pinky—try to take over the world!”

It’s not easy trying to second guess Wenger.

  11. DaleDaGooner

I think i like the look of that boy Ricky Alvarez….i’d welcome him to replace Bendtner, and just look to promote a striker or just move Walcott inside. If Nasri is leaving, then he is welcome as his replacement…with his height, we could use him sparingly as a striker.

  12. gambon

    Wengers Sweeties

If we sell a player everytime he asks for £120k pw then we would get nowhere.

Unless you want to compete with Everton for 8th?

  13. Gooby

alvarez looks class and elegant, bit like kaka!

i don’t want to go into that chamakh debate anymore, we’ll never hear the end of it anyway

  14. OPG

Alvarez would not replace Nasri we would need someone more proven in Europe, all the hype around him is premature.

  15. Iceman10

No one had even heard of Alvarez until we showed interest in him and now hes the new Kaka? the only player i want frm that league is the River plate kid Erik Lamela

  16. Gooby

didn’t say he’s new kaka for god’s sake, i said he reminds on on kaka the way he moves with the ball.

  17. Iceman10

I wud say Hazard has more potential…we can have both tho they dont play in the same position..

  18. Iceman10

I heard Lille want 30 mill for him… y didnt we buy him in January then send him back to Lille?

  19. luke

    Nasri—cesc—schweinsteiger-hazard
    ————-RVP——————

Subs- fabianski, gibbs, djourou, Chamakh, LJW, Walcott, Chamakh,

Bendtner + 22 million for Schweinsteiger.
Sell: Vela (7 million), Denilson, (6-8 million), Rosicky (6-7 million), Squilaci (6-8 million), Almunia (2 million). That gives us around 27-30 million in sales on top of what we already have (remember adebayor and toure!?), we could easily afford Hazard for 25-28 million, and Hangeland for 10 million or so.

  20. Gooby

why would they sell when he’s value is going up day by day.

He would have cost £15m last season £30+m now

  21. Gooby

    luke

agree it would be good to have him but he doesn’t want to be an understudy, i’d welcome him with open arms if cesc goes.

  22. luke

think you could play with a midfield three of cesc, LJW, and Schweinsteiger too. Schweiny never stops running, and would give us the bite and aggression and winning mentality we need

  23. JJ

DDG – My point was that Hazard is short, relatively lightweight and has a history of not working hard. You just picked up on the “short” aspect and compared with Messi.

In my opinion, Hazard may help us score more but that is all pointless if there is big hole in the bottom of the bucket. We need players who are willing to work hard, with and without the ball. Especially if we want to continue to play the same style of football.

I just think there are more important roles to fill before we start adding icing.

  24. JJ

Luke – Completely agree. Cesc and LJW get clattered all game. With Swiney around, the opposition might think twice. He is a hard man with skills to boot.

That trio would be a match for any midfield. If we add a couple of pacey wingers willing to cover the full-backs then we are really in business.

  25. luke

agreed JJ. Another 20 year old midget from the french league cant be a priority. We need some steel in midfield and Defense, and a striker who looks to shoot the ball when he gets it

  26. JJ

Gooby – What is the Song role? I don’t think Song even knows what that is…

If you mean DM, then I would think that LJW and Swiney could take turns and keep the opposition guessing.

  27. luke

yeah Gooby. Schweinsteiger and LJW can take turns like song and him did this year, although Schweinsteiger>Song by many miles. And in more physical games I think Song, Schweiny, and Cesc would be perfect

  28. luke

well whatever, its not like Wenger would try to buy Schweinsteiger anyway. Bendtner and cash would be so perfect…

  29. BillikenGooner

That is probably the only way we get anyone of consequence this offseason, a player swap and money.

Wenger won’t bruise his precious moral compass and sign anyone for over 20mil.

  30. TOMTOM

Just heard that we will sign Miralem Pjanic from Lyon as a replacement for Nasri. According to my source it will be a done deal very soon.

    ————————————————-

Now watch him become a huge superstar in the next 2 years and we will be wondering what could have been….
    Sounds familiar ?

  32. Jerry

Just been talking to my mate in Spain about transfer rumours and shit. Turns out that there’s been little said about Fabregas compared to previous years, not much at all in fact. Denilson talk is also thin on the ground. Also appears unlikely Madrid will let Benzema go either as earlier differences with Maureen seem to be sorted now. They are however hoping to get Adebayour on the cheap (£8M) as it’s not like the Arabs really need him or the money, otherwise he’ll be going back to Citeh. Manu’s new goalie is a done deal apparently…..cunts.

    ——————————————–

If we are selling Nasri for real, we need to replace him with another winger not a playmaker.
If we are getting Miralem Pjanic, it will mean that we are selling Fabregas.

  34. Gooby

i know song doesn’t know if he’s ronaldinho, valderama or himself but we should keep an eye on that DM position.

We are really shit at the back and songilinho has surely something to do with it

  35. DaleDaGooner

gambon, you’re gonna start again today aye? Alvarez as a striker is not far fetched…when we played Arshavin as a lone striker seasons before, was that crazy? Dude shoots the ball and has a nice touch, noone said he was an out and out striker, but i can see Wenger usng him there sparingly, even Nasri has been played a sa striker last season.

I hope the talk hasn’t cooled off, though 14m Euros is too much for an unknown.

@JJ….Hazard worked hard for Lille, not sure where His team mates gives him credit for defensive work as well.

  36. Gooby

    breaking news

“Real miss out on fat sam as west ham won the race to hire the walrus-like talented manager”

  37. Maciek

If Prjanic is our replacement for Nasri, we are finished. What a joke of a Club!

F**k off Wenger. A maker and breaker.

First you must secure your best players and than add some QUALITY, and he just replaces quality with dross, keeping cr*p players.

    Get out of our Club.

  38. Iceman10

I thought Bayern valued Schweinsteiger at 50 mill? but he has said he wants to play in the EPL and he cud play in Songs position… I wud prefer him to de rossi and his craziness

  39. Big Dave

“We want Alex to get to Arsenal as soon as possible and continue his development,” said Chamberlain.
“Alex is still developing but there’s no better place to develop than at Arsenal and the Premier League.”

  40. luke

Anyone think there is actually a chance Wenger will sell squilaci? The fact that we had Silvestre in our squad for 2 years seems to suggest that ole sebastian might be with us next year

  41. DaleDaGooner

Though i hope i’m wrong…if he is sold or released, that would mean Wenger means business.

  42. luke

We need a world class center half to partner vermaelen. Wenger has watched this team leak goals like mad for i dont know how many seasons running. Djourou and Koscielny are good backup center halfs but come on man. Wake up!

  43. DaleDaGooner

luke, do you think it’s a center half problem? I believe it was a goal keeping problem for many years and a defensive tactics….we have far too many complacent midfielders, Cesc being a culprit.

  44. DaleDaGooner

The Chelsea, Barca, Man City and Man u games we won, Cesc and co were pressing the ball and harassing the opponents midfield, chasing everything. Defense actually starts from up the field….our defenders get too much pressure and the set pieces we give away are caused by our midfield at times.

  45. Big Dave

Arsenal irá a por Rondón (Ven) podrián pagar 15M€, no quieren que se vaya del Málaga para formar una posible dupla con Ruud Van Nistelrooy.

    Whatever that means

  46. luke

Dale. There was never any hope for our defense with Almunia between the posts, and fabianski up until this year. Chezzer looks to be the part though. I think Vermaelen is good enough to start but Koscielny, Djourou, and Squilaci are too inconsistent/injury prone/clueless respectively to start for Arsenal IMO. LJW puts in a good defensive shift and next to song a supposed CDM, the midfield shouldnt be a problem. Clichy certainly isnt helping anyone…

  47. Arsene Nose Best

Arsenal will go for Rondón (Ven) might pay 15M €, do not want to move out of Manchester to form a possible tandem with Ruud Van Nistelrooy.

  48. Iceman10

The problem isnt just the CB…we dont defend well enough as a team… our best games hav been when we press hard from upfront… with that said we do need another quality CB… we don’t need a GK this summer imo… let Chezzer and Fabianski fight for it…and yes Fabianski is good enough as he proved this year

  49. luke

But the center back certainly is also a problem. Do you guys really feel confident when Kosicielny or Djourou start? I dont. THey really dont inspire confidence even after their good run this year IMO.

    ——-

Yeah, trophies such a minor detail, eh….

  51. Jimbo

Seriously, how is Wenger the wanker allowed to waste any more of the clubs money on shite like Gervinho and Samba?

Fuck off, you pair of useless tossers!

  52. JJ

I am with Luke. Kos and JD can fight it out for 3rd and 4th choice. They are both error prone and need to learn their trade under a more seasoned team. Vermy also benefits from being with a senior partner. Also agreee that Clichy (and Gibbs) don’t help things.

Ice – you had me until you said Flappy was good enough to be #2. I would rather have crazy Jens in a wheelchair… or even Seaman from the retirement home. Flappy is a disaster.

DDG – I am pretty sure that Hazard got dropped earlier last season for being lazy. I hate to agree but I doubt Wenger will sell Squirrel after just 1 year. That would require admitting that he failed with the signing.

  53. Jimbo

I don’t hate you JJ, just feel sorry for you.

I can only assume that people who would take Samba just don’t spend a lot of time watching Blackburn defend, because really, they’re fucking dreadful.

Then again, who’d watch Blackburn apart from someone with too much time on their hands, so more fool me, eh…

  54. Arsene Nose Best

what cb’s would you like to see come in jimbo, this is a question not a dig at you b.t.w.

  55. Munitionsman

Err faith ran out when wenger said the most important thing was to keep this squad together 2 seasons ago then proceeded to sell the best players. He repeats both that mantra and that action every year and this year will be no different as cesc is sold for massive profit

  56. Jimbo

    That’s fine, ANB.

If we’re looking for a player with experience in this league, with a reasonable budget, of good quality, and someone who will give us what we don’t have, I’d take Hangeland or Cahill, if we’re not willing to splash out and gamble on a big money foreigner.

Cliche, I know, but if we’re going abroad I’d take Subotic (Hummels I think is a better player, but less of what we need), or Tasci perhaps if Subotic won’t move. From France, because I know we’re scouting there, Sakho has all the right skills, and bags of talent, but not a great deal of experience.

Wenger is not a fit and proper person to be allowed to influence the club’s budget.

    Simple as.

  58. zeus

Alvarez looks nothing like Kaka I’m sorry.
It seems the the new messi Juan Manuel iturbe is off to Porto. With both the u20 wc and cops America on show this summer we could pick up a couple talented players.

  59. JJ

Jimbo – IMO Samba is better than all our current CB’s (maybe on par with Vermy). He is a realistic target for Wenger and that is why I would take him. There is no use talking about all the big name signings because it is pointless to do so. We will never BUY a ready-made, world class CB.

Samba is in the range of 6’5″, has Prem experience, is a big lump of a lad and a true leader. There is worse we could do…

  60. Arsene Nose Best

jimbo, other then the cb’s you have spoken about, who under that lot would be good enough for us

Samba and Ryan Nelsen have had one of the worst defences built around them in the league, consistently, over the last 5 seasons. About once a month they get it together and look half decent, the rest of the time they’re completely fucking useless. I don’t care how tall he is – he’s a slow, error-prone lump of crap.

  62. OPG

Transfer rumours are not worth stressing over, I’d rather not second guess Wenger and get caught up in this silly season.
This club is a mess and the last season was disastrous, we all need a break from this and to wait till August to see where we stand.

  63. Iceman10

I totally agree with Koz being 3rd choice…i truly believe he will class in a yr or 2… Fabianski played well this year…hes class but jus didnt have the confidence…Chezzer needs to sort out his kicking or he isnt he answer either

  64. OPG

Hmmm went searching around and back in April Goal.com claimed he would demand £110,000 if he won player of the year.

  65. Iceman10

he wants to be paid as much as Cesc according to rumors… the highest paid players shud be Cesc and Rvp then Nasri…if he cant accept that then he can fuck off

  66. Santos

Nasri is massively over-rated…. He just had 4 months of brilliance and he thinks he is up to Cesc’s level.
I BlAme Wenger for getting us pampered players with no value for the Cannon.I Still Want Wenger out.

Samba is not world class. Fans will hardly rejoice on hearing about his signing. No ambition as usual

Juve have realised that club traditions must come first, they got Antonio Conte. Barca needed a new direction , they got Guardiola. L’pool needed to restore the pride and quality of ths club , they got King Kenny .
We are still stuck with Arsene and are static.

Why don’t we get someone who cares about the traditions which this worldclass Club was built upon? We need a new challenge, a fresh identity, a new mentality, did I forget To mention new faces?

I bleed red and white, every second of my life. I a’int stoppin’ till the end.

It is a sad state of affairs when a 19 year old wins Player of the Year for a club like Arsenal.

Doesn’t say much for the rest of the squad…

  69. Robin's Choco Leg Special

jj – tripe indeed, but if that happened i’d personally set up i love arsene .com…

  70. Charlie

Watched Eden Hazard on Youtube last night (8:30am now here in China). He is a phenomenal player but apparently going nowhere this summer so that’s for another day. As for CB there’s no point getting Cahill who’s a carbon-copy of Vermaelen, the team needs leadership, height and strength which is why Samba is considered by many to be the perfect fit. He’s definitely the right type of player, whether he’s the best of that type i don’t know but he’s the best available in the EPL right now.

  71. Charlie

A player like Samba is never going to be very good against the more energetic and mobile strikers, for that you need defenders with excellent awareness, pace and a quick change of direction such as Vermaelen or Koschielny. Arsenal don’t often struggle against players like that, they struggle in the physical battles because their defenders are all of a similar type. In defense you need to match up like-for-like, if you’re looking to score you try to exploit weaknesses.

  72. Moray

For me, anyone who wants to leave can just fuck off!

I would offer Nasri 100k per month, mainly because he is Premiership experienced now. If Fabregas goes, we will need his creativity in the midfield. If he doesn’t accept that then sell him to Real Madrid, to warm the bench there.

Fabregas needs to go. Holding on to him would just be corrosive, however I think we should sell him to ANY club BUT Barca, as they are taking the piss with their derisory offers and DNA comments. I don’t hold anything against Fabregas – he is a young guy still and makes mistakes. It is difficult to realise he is still so young because of the stupid pressure given to him by Wenger with the captaincy and after having sold all of our senior midfielders.

We also need to be ruthless, as Geoff and Pedro have pointed out, with our under par youngsters (is 21-22 still young?) and with our first and second team players who either have motivational issues or who are not good enough (or both). Bye bye and good riddance.

Then we should buy in top quality talent and use our youngsters as back-up, returning to a more orthodox 4-4-2, which I think works better in the Premiership to break down teams (or at least have some flexibility over the way we play to combat different teams).

Then, bring in a big-balled defensive coach to stop our defenders looking like young boys in a Catholic church.

If we can buy some orthodox wingers and play them with overlapping full-backs, especially ones who can cross, then I feel we could be back in the chase.

  73. Charlie

Nasri had half a good season and contributed very little when the going got tough. It’s no secret that he fell out with Gallas and wasn’t taken to the World Cup because of his attitude but now he’s France captain somehow. Wenger has had plenty of players demanding more than they’re worth and he’s let every one that wanted too much go so this will be no different. RvP is the best player at the club but only plays in half the matches. Cesc is on a very lucrative contract but is also injured for half the matches and when he does play he’s not showing what he’s capable of. I can see why Nasri wants as much as those two but to be honest none of them deserve that much after this season, the only one who could argue that he does is RvP who couldn’t help getting injured and did a great job when he was on the pitch.

  74. zeus

Yeah, Nasri is worth 110,000 pounds a week. He’s only had 4 spectacular months out of 30 in 3 years. Twat.

Can someone make a long compilation video of Hazard’s season 2011?

  75. OPG

Take it with a pinch of salt. but the Daily Star reckon Barca will put up their bid for Cesc to £40m. Heh

  76. Moray

OPG, I would rather sell Cesc for 20m to Real.

It’s not actually like we need the cash, or indeed as if we will spend it anyway, so why not use the opportunity to teach those Catalan cunts a lesson?

  77. gambon

It never ceases to amaze me how Arsene has made all fans OBSESSED with money.

What the fuck does it matter to you how much Nasri earns?

You either want him in the team or you dont.

You think Chelsea got a £170m wage bill paying peanuts?

Im not Nasris biggest fan, but fuck me we wont get anywhere if we keep on selling players the second they want a pay rise.

  78. Charlie

Hey Gambon, lend us some money, ten grand should do it. Doesn’t matter if i don’t pay it back does it ? Now money is irrelevant to a football club then, try telling that to a Leeds or Portsmouth fan. There are only 3 clubs that don’t care about money. Chelsea and Man City because their owners are billionaires and Real Madrid because the government keep bailing them out if they get in financial trouble. I don’t know why i need to explain this.

Gambon, I thought we had too much people o high wages? Making us second or third with highest wage bill…Why would i give Nasri £110k a week when RvP, a better player isn’t on that? Like everyone states, we held out for Nasri to be consistent all season and only had half a season decency. I’d much hold on to Fabregas than keep Nasri if he is so insistent that 90k is to small for him….and more so him and his agent using Man U as leverage.

    Jimbo, you’re too negative.

So Wenger has spoken about Nasri (outted him pretty much as a greedy cunt….not my thought, but when Wenger talks openly about a contract, you know Nasri might be off) Hence Gervinho might be coming in as replacement and Alvarez being talked to. Frankly, I’d take both.

    Hazard isn’t going anywhere, yet.

Wenger talked about Samba, so he looks to be on his way in, they probably already agreed personal terms in January, If Blackburn agree on the tabled offer, I wonder who the second option is. For me, he is welcome, but not what I’d like…honestly, there aren’t a lot of sure thing CB we can chose from…. Cahill won’t change us much.

Wenger talking up Benzema again, Benzema wants to stay, him and Maureen kissed and made up, so who will now replace Bendtner and Denilson? Both are definitely out.

De Rossi isn’t coming. Neymar isn’t either.

It’s going to be a lot of upset fans this summer.

Still think Gervinho, Benzema are smoke screens, but could very well happen, Samba i think will happen.

Good sensible talk Charlie…ceases to amaze me how fans don’t think money is a thing in football.

Nasri will be replaced by Gervinho or Alvarez or some little known player…If we lose both Cesc and Nasri, then I can see Wenger forcing Lille to sell Hazard.

Gambon is right, beyond establishing that the club are doing a reasonable job of keeping us solvent, we probably don’t need to be as interested in the clubs finances as we are.

I think that goes for the staggering amount of attention paid by posters to our wage bill though as well.

  83. Queen of Suburbia

Actually reading that back what I mean is that the club are rarely honest about the shape of our finances, and our main interest if any should be.

    A: That we are solvent.
B: That we run our finances in such a way as to as far as possible develop sporting success.

As a football club, we don’t need money for money’s sake.

Money for moneys’ sake no and if the money received from the sale of Toure and Adebayour is not spent soon we as fans have a right to protest. Thing is soon clubs won’t be allowed to run at an excessive loss which means wage costs not covered by club income will need to be covered by selling players or sacrifice Champions League football. If these regulations work as planned every contract needs to be considered very carefully. I think Nasri will be sold too, i think Wenger is working out how his demands fit with financial fair play and deciding that he’s not worth it. It’s terrible news that Hazard is staying at Lille for an extra season because if he wasn’t Nasri leaving wouldn’t matter.

Nasri won’t find a club that’ll pay him 110,000-a-week if the clubs haven’t found a loophole in the financial fair play regulations. Hopefully the days of players being paid well above their worth will be over but maybe i’m being naiive.
