Is Arsene Wenger a bad manager?

by & filed under Uncategorized.

‘We have our plans and we know what we will do’

Is the above quote the one we’ll all hang from this summer? It’s a familiar line, one I’d throw on the pile with, ‘I’m taking my cheque book to the finals’, ‘You’ll be a very surprised by what I’ll do (then sign Silvestre)’, ‘We have the money to compete with Chelsea’, ‘I’m in for super, super class players’ and ‘We need to look at the defence (said for 3 years on the trot and it’s actually getting worse)’

Arsene Wenger is the master of inaction. Speak to any supporter of any other club and they’ll mostly say the same thing…

‘How can a manager as good as Arsene Wenger make the same mistakes every season?’

What did Einstein say about people making the same mistake twice? It could be however that he isn’t that good any more, like boxers, managers can’t go on for ever, they don’t improve with age, and don’t say Ferguson, he has a big budget so he’s no different to the chavs or City.

Football is a cruel game, it doesn’t work off sentiment and it doesn’t allow you to become complacent. The fact is, Wenger isn’t dynamic as a coach anymore. He doesn’t adopt best practice as a manager and his training techniques are dated. Even his style of play is now being out witted by managers like Tony Pulis. Being a trailblazer is only ever good long-term if you develop your ideas with the times.

Steve Jobs didn’t sit back and live off his success with the first ever home computer, he constantly challenged himself and his team to better themselves. He added strings to his bow and brought in the best talent from around to globe to help his firm develop. Now they’re the most valuable brand in the world.

Arsene Wenger took the Premiership by storm. His ideas on diet, fitness and style of football were ground breaking, we’d never seen anything like it over here. 16 years on though, it’s all looking a bit flat. He has demotivated players on huge salaries, he has a style that was figured out 7 years ago and he’s talking about a season of desperate under achievement like it was a good one.

If you tell your players 3rd is a trophy and this year was progress, what desire are they going to have to kick on? And don’t forget, it may well be 4th. We said months ago, never mind winning the title, be more concerned about the chasing pack.

People can marvel at his lack of spending in the transfer market, but then they should look at his wage bill. David Moyes may have spent more over the past few seasons, but Arsenal’s wage bill is almost £50million more than his. If you’re working off Wengernomics, then you have to include salary in your transfer budget.

Arsene shouldn’t just be coaxed into signing players, he should be sat down and told in no uncertain terms he’ll be out of a job next summer if he doesn’t rectify the problems in the team that are so glaringly obvious.

It’s no good saying,

‘On set-pieces we have been caught and Jones didn’t even have to jump to head the ball – that is something to correct’

‘It is the easiest thing to correct in the game, but you still must understand the flight of the ball and want to be first and have some experience’

If it was that easy to correct, surely someone should have been correcting it before we became the worst team in the league for conceding set pieces? Surely our analysis team should have flagged this in December and suggested the coach either bring in Steve Bould to help the defence or bring in a defensive coach from elsewhere to help out?

Jeez… it wouldn’t take much to lure Tony Adams back from Kazakhstan!

All our problems are based around bad management. Wenger, for all his past glories, is at the moment, showing himself up as a poor decision maker and man blinded by his own arrogance. Blame the players, sure, I’ve no problem with that. Trouble is, only one person puts them out on the pitch every week. Only one person renews their contracts. Only one person ignores talent in the transfer market because he has faith in what he has.

Wenger isn’t making the right noises about turning it around either. He’s happy with his squad, he thinks sorting out the problems is a simple exercise and he’s talking like he does at the end of every season.

It’s embarrassing and painful to listen to… I’d love to think he’s bluffing, but it’s the same story every season. We argue all summer about it and people say,

‘Honestly, he’s been really let down this year, he knows what’s wrong with his squad and I think he’ll surprise us’

‘We’re only a month into the transfer window, jeez, give him a chance’

… then before you know it, it’s August 28th, we’re quibbling over £2million and our squad looks much the same as it always does. Under strength, too young and filled with the same mediocre dross that delivered us zero success the year before.

One last thing, and I could be wrong, but we are treated like special needs donkeys that just keep doing what they are told, as Peter Hill-Wood recently said, those stupid people. However, I couldn’t help notice on the Arsenal home page that they were displaying the new kit, but forgot to put their captain in it, now that’s something I don’t ever remember happening, so I know we are all a bit slow, but that suggests to me that Cesc is already on his way.

Now if that is the truth, and if the manager has anything left for me to respect, then he’ll go out on day one and buy what he needs before he has the ready made excuse that everyone knew he had money from the sale of Cesc and the price went up.

Maybe a swap deal, Ozil and Benzema??? Anyone??? Oh to be an Arsenal fan eh?

lol timao – surely, the key difference, is that it’s Wenger’s job to get the management of the club right, not ours?

  2. David

    Its like Piers Morgan said,

When it came down to it in crunch time Wenger bitched and moaned while fergie fired himself up.

A scene that sticks with me forever will be Wenger on his knees at the dying minutes of the liverpool game right before Eboue announced himself again.

Its as if we all knew someone was bound to cock up.

A clear out wont be such a bad thing.

Too many players are error prone. What we do at Arsenal is rotational cock up. Today its Eboue, tomorrow its Song. Next week its Clichy. The next day its the keeper, next its Koscienly giving away another penalty and getting himself sent off. Next its Diaby, and recently its been Djourou.

Consistent crap. If you’d allow me to borrow a line from that movie Snatch.

“Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity”

  3. SUGA3

    ice,

if you are really who they say you are:

you lot are not fit to tie the shoelaces of Bergkamp, Henry, Vieira,Adams, Parlour and the like!

these were MEN, ready to die for the cause and who are you lot? bunch of useless, overpampered kids – fuck you! and again!

  4. Steve Biko

    David

Wenger was not on his knees he was squatting right after Liverpool had been given their penalty and Kuyt was about to take it.

  5. woolwich gun

Alex Fergie won the title with his OLD men – giggs, scholes – in the squad mixed with experienced and youths as well. Wenger sold players who has passed 30 years of age, or just gave them 1 year extension, so they left. He relied heavily on youths banking on potentials. Then he realised he needed older players, but what a cheapskate! Instead of buying topclass players, he bought old cheapsales – sylvestre, squillaci, campbell (free of charge).
Yes, he such a great manager because he can live in the past and go 6 years without trophies and yet nobody at the club can say anything about it! That’s greatness.

  6. JJ

Ice – It has been the same problem every year for at least 5 years now. Why should we trust that it will get “sorted” this summer? What is different?

  7. BillikenGooner

    well,

it’s good that the fnools were so wrong and Wenger was so right with his decisions.

  8. David

    I hope Ice is real.

It would be nice to know that the people close to OGL know how we feel about his shite.

I dont trust the man anymore.

I feel like he’s going to pull some incredible excuse again and tell us that David Villa was not available as was Xabi Alonso.

Watch him talk some shite about not being able to sign the players we want because of City.

  9. Steve Biko

Wenger true legacy appears to be the division and spite among Arsenal fans. Honestly its sad when fans abuse their fellow fans instead of rival fans.

  10. SUGA3

    David,

even if we are to sign anyone, watch the selling club skinning Gazidis & Co. alive in the negotiations, knowing that the pressure is on…

and all that could have been avoided – penny wise, pound foolish!

  11. Pedro

David, don’t know if someone has already covered this off… but there are no cliques at Arsenal.

  12. JJ

David – I agree. Too many players switch off at crucial times. I suspect that Wenger gives them a big hug and kiss so they don’t feel too bad about it. He is too concerned about their confidence level.

He needs to send a rocket up them instead. That will toughen them up and make them focus even more.

Obviously that does not work for every player but Fergie and Wenger are on opposite ends of the spectrum in this area. Fergie’s approach breeds winners and Wenger’s breeds serial chokers.

  13. emiratesstroller

It’s not just the Manager who needs to go, but the Board as well. Most are now in
their 70s and nod their heads like pet poodles.

The Board are self satisfied with what Wenger offers, which is ‘mediocrity’.

They will only wake up when they suddenly discover that people like myself do
not renew season tickets and the team start playing to a half full stadium.

In my case I will renew my season tickets next season, but unless there is an
improvement in team or radical change in management that will be it.

  14. David

Maybe the Wenger Apologists can explain why at the beginning of every season the target is to win the Championship and then at the end its 3rd place is a trophy.

Honestly, OGL knows he talking to a bunch of idiots.

Just recently he said he was ready to sign up for 20 years and be 2nd.

Now its a “step by step” progress from 4th to 3rd.

I think it would be in Le-groves best interest not to discuss Wenger anymore.

Lets talk about each player in detail.

I’d do a post on each player review of the season.

Pros, Cons, Stay, Go, Rating, Doomer, AKB. The whole 9 yards.

  15. Hitman

It was an AKB free zone today until Timao turned up.

How football mirrors real life. Wenger, the dictator now only hated and despised by the people, his power eroding by the day, clings on in the hopes plattitudes will win the masses back. Just doesnt realise he is no longer wanted. His time is nearly up.

Lets hope he doesnt send in the death squads to quell the protests on Saturday.

  16. geek pie

No wonder we were fuckin brilliant – we had dennis bergkamp. those heights will never be seen again.

  17. SUGA3

    David,

and with the way Kenny has got the Pool firing, do you think we will finish in the top four next season?

with both Manc clubs and Chelsea likely to strengthen?

    not a fucking chance!

  18. zeus

    Suga

Hahahaha. Having a pop at ‘one of our players’, how dare u?

Ice is no insider though I’m sure.

  19. Steve Biko

    SUGA3

I think we will finish in the top four next season. Wenger has the experience in doing so. My suspicion is that if we do so in the face of a resurgent Liverpool then it will be the excuse of AKBs to point to Wenger’s genius.

  20. David

We played liverpool off the park Suga.

I want Wenger out just as much as the next Gooner (or every other gooner whatever the case maybe) but lets not take away from the fact that when this team are up for it we beat the living shyte out of our rivals.

The trouble is that we cant keep playing all the big clubs every week.

You can see the trending failing pattern.

Last season we got absolutely humiliated by the other big clubs but we kept the pace beating the other teams. Ofcoarse there were set backs like Hull City but we did it for the most part.

2 seasons ago we beat United, we beat Chelsea and we lost to the boltons and the smaller clubs again.

3 season we ago the same thing, beat lesser clubs get beaten by bigger clubs.

Next season i fully expect us to be fired up to beat the likes of Stoke and Birmingham but I can bet you Greece’s financial depth that we’d be once again humiliated by our rivals in the crunch time.

  21. Simbo

Great post and 100% accurate. I have supported arsenal for 40 years and now on the edge of having had enough. No ambition.

  22. SUGA3

    zeus,

I said that once and I will say that again: if Wenger is unable to gee up the team during halftime when we play crap, it should be enough to invest into the following:

    http://tinyurl.com/6kg457w

    http://tinyurl.com/6cxgzhl

    http://tinyurl.com/63s8qlu

and then put LG thread on auto-refresh, might open a few eyes

    David,

we played Mancs and Chavs off the park too and yet they will finish above us…

    Steve,

we will not, you have heard it here first!

and it’s the first time I have said that too…

  23. Steve Biko

    SUGA3

I still think we will. You see Wenger can be infuriating but he is not crap. If we finish in the top four next season your writing him off will be used as ammunation by AKBs to say that you and other “doomers” do not know anything.

  24. SUGA3

    Steve,

    a bet of honour?

unlike some, I will be here to admit that I was wrong…

but unless we show that we mean business, I will not lose too much sleep over it ;)

  25. SUGA3

    that’s what I like to see ;)

given that the team is about to lose its heart in Cesc, and that AW can’t tell his arse from his elbow anymore, prepare for a proper season of disappointment…

    you ain’t seen nothing yet!

  26. TOMTOM

We really need to sign five quality players this summer but we all know Wenger wont do that. If Rosicky,Chamakh,Denilson,Eboue,Squillaci,Bendtner,Clichy and Diaby are still at the club then we are really fucked and I wont be going to watch them shower of cunts prance around the pitch for forty minutes before limping off. Wenger has lost the plot and he still cant accept that the teams constant failure is his fault,he actually thinks that this season was a success for fuck sake.

  27. tiarnan

For any of you out there that think Wenger can EVER EVER EVER EVER build a proper defence dont forget -

His original back four were all built and developed by the MAESTRO George Graham…

The Invincibles were LEAD by the irrepresible Sol Campbell, a free transfer that begged to goto Arsenal…

He utterly controlled that back four – he told Kolo Toure what to do and when to do it – and he used Kolos athleticism to his and Arsenals advantage…

The original right back Oleg Luzhny was replaced by a right midfielder Lauren – a gamble that totally & UNEXPECTEDLY paid off….

The left back Cole – was coming through our ranks before Wenger arrived…another great stroke of luck for Wenger (until he let him go for 5K a week – Wengernomics at the fore)

Lehamnn – an amazing commander of a keeper played his part too – so in some respect, kudos to Wenger for that…but he was also calamitous as we all know – not a Van Der Saar or Seaman by any means…

But without Campbell that defence would have been in bits (especially without Vieira and Gilberto ahead of it)

And he was (I reiterate) a FREE TRANSFER – if he cost 5m Wenger would never have bought him.

Wenger got fucking lucky – HE IS UTTERLY INCAPABLE OF BUILDING A DEFENCE or a team of MEN.

I expect to see pictures of Elton John bangin Kim Kardashian before Wenger builds a proper defence.

AKB’s & PLS’s need to get fucking real.

    —————————

Johnny Wins – if youre sentiments are similar then yes – coz we’re both true Arsenal fans and not AKB’s or Pippi Long Stocking Fans!! ;)

  28. JJ

We will still make the top 4 next year.

We will buy another crap, aged, French CB, rely on reserves coming up for other positions, nick another Frenchie on a free from some second dicision.

We will have the usual good start, a crap November, a decent Xmas and then the wheels will fall off in March. After crashing out of one cup we will fall out of all trophies in quick-time.

    Same old, same old…

  29. TOMTOM

We will start the season well again next season but come march when the pressure comes on we will fuck it up again. What a fucking joke,if I played for a team like that I’d be ashamed of myself.

  30. tiarnan

    TomTom -
I totally disagree – all the aspirations of the burgeoning youth playing in the early Autumn sunshine – has now turned to despondency and despair…no more will we start a season with such hope…

The flower of youth is dead and all we’re left with is a withered wintry stalk…much like Wengers cock.

Ferguson: Manchester United can dominate Premier League for years to come

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson believes his current squad is ready to embark on a new period of Premier League domination.

United are just one point away from securing a record 19th league title, having beaten Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford last weekend, and Ferguson is confident the squad’s blend of youth and experience has reached just the right balance to ensure future success is assured.

“Over the last decade, we’ve worked upon bringing young talent into the club, like Wayne Rooney, Chicharito, Anderson and Nani,” he said. “But that doesn’t dismiss the fact that we like to produce our own young players and I think there are several players in the present youth team who are doing really well.

“The likes of Ryan Tunnicliffe and Ravel Morrison, you see some of them doing very, very well, so we’re always going to put an emphasis on young players coming through from the youth team. That will always be the case.

“We’ve got some excellent young players of good ages. Like, for instance, Chicharito, who is 22, Jonny Evans and Darron Gibson, who are 23, and Chris Smalling who’s 21.

“So, yeah, we’ve got a good nucleus of young players in the club which gives you the foundation to be able to protect the future and know it’s going to be alright.”

However, while the season’s end will undoubtedly see United overtake Liverpool’s league title record, for Ferguson it will also result in an uneasy sense of déjà vu.

Edwin van der Sar has confirmed he will hang up his goalkeeping gloves after the Champions League final on May 28, leaving a huge void for Ferguson to fill.

Manuel Neuer, Maarten Stekelenburg and David de Gea have all been linked with a summer move to Old Trafford and, having struggled for years to fill Peter Schmeichel’s shoes, Ferguson knows it is imperative he gets the decision right first time.

“It’s going to be terribly difficult,” said Ferguson. “It’s like when Schmeichel left. We made some horrendous mistakes and then eventually, when we got Edwin, we got back to the level of having a top goalkeeper.

“But hopefully we’ll not make the same mistake again and as long as Wenger is at Arsenal I think we’re OK.”

  32. albo

SUG – I think that’s a pretty naive vision of the impact Kenny has had. Sure Liverpool have had a decent run recently, but there are still stronger squads out there. And its not as if they looked better than us at the Emirates at the peak of their transformation. They have some momentum right now, but let’s not pretend they’re the second best team in the country!

  33. pharo9ja

    current crop= pathetic,pussymistic fackers!
PS: FUCK RIGHT OFF TIMAO & d other fucker. U lot feed the cancer that’s killing my club.

  34. SUGA3

    albo,

of course they are not the second best, however, at the moment they are better than us and it’s as simple as that…

  35. SUGA3

and I am not holding my breath to see us improving sufficiently…

Wenger is talking about taking third place already, like it’s a foregone conclusion…

    I say come on City!

  37. albo

I disagree. They have momentum and their tails up at the moment. That is not the same as them being a better side…

(And I switch off the moment Arsenal fans start wishing other teams would do better than us. I simply can’t imagine ever wishing the gunners would do badly)

  38. Raugaj

  39. albo

And by the way, by the logic of your post, we would still be in the top 4. Because if you are saying that Liverpool are better than us right now, they are in a completely different league to Spurs and City according to that table!

  40. TOMTOM

THE football star protected by a super-injunction over his affair with Big Brother star Imogen Thomas is about to be named.

The exposure in a popular Spanish newspaper is planned to coincide with an important date for the player, causing maximum personal impact to him and allegedly putting him off his game.

Tabloid daily newspaper El Mundo Deportivo will print the name of the Premier League idol who won a gagging order last month to suppress claims he cheated on his wife in a six-month fling with gorgeous Imogen.

But the injunction only prevents British publications from exposing him.

A Spanish media source said: “The newspaper is happy to print his name because they are published abroad.

“They are determined to print it on a date when they know it is vitally important for the footballer to be able to concentrate only on his game.

“The player will not want any distractions at this time so this will have a huge impact on his ability to focus only on football.

“I am sure he will be angry and upset about this but there’s nothing he can do about it.”

  41. Evan

and no, by my logic, Liverpool would do better, whilst the rest would do as they did…

  43. SUGA3

with all his talk of doing thingss ‘step by step’, i.e. 3rd -> 2nd -> 1st he can simply go forth and multiply…

    I am sorry, but that’s how I feel…

    it’s really sad to see!

  44. Man

Does anyone really care who a footballer is fucking?

DO you understand how Chemotherapy works? You destroy the healthy cells to destroy the malignant ones..in order the person may survive

So, look at us REAL ARSENAL fans, wanting the same thing – putting Arsenal into Chemo (ie hoping they lose a few games) in order to get rid of the cancer that is Wenger.

and before QofS goes of an a mad one – by the very definition Wenger is a Cancer – but of course I dont wish it on him.

  46. SUGA3

    TT,

as you can see, I am not a biggest fan, but that is bang out of the fucking order…

if he wants to ride away into the sunset with bags of cash to fuck every French rapper in the universe, I say thank you very much and good luck, but wishing harm upon anybody is a sign of a CUNT!!!

    ever heard of karma?

  47. TOMTOM

I was joking really,I’d be happy if he suffered from something really annoying such as an ingrown toe nail or anal warts but not cancer.

  48. SUGA3

despite what you may make out of what I write, I still have some respect for the man and he is like a good ol’ grandad who is losing his marbles and is tearing the house down because of having a couple of screws in his head loose!

    sad to see, really…

  49. TOMTOM

I’d imagine riding into the sunset with anal warts would be a nuisance but at least he would have Denilson to help rub in the anti anal wart cream

  50. SUGA3

    TT,

to be fair, I reckon we can’t have too many complaints apart from him fucking it up personnel wise in the summer of 2008 and lack of appropriate action in the last three transfer windows…

but this season was fucking criminal, simple as that…

  51. tony lopez

well thi’s what been saying for the 6 years this man has lost it all, he just wont acept it look at ferg oyu ask your self why he never get raid of ryan gigs, schols, vandersar and so on the is cleaver you can’t bring kids to the party on they own, you stupid wenger you idiot answer me what that fuck did you buy silverstre, squilachi, cygan, wiltord, grimondi why did sell campbell, leiman and after few years you broght them again what useless you are stop buy these french cunts and used the fuck money on decent players. this game against villa i will bring my white flag fuck every one i dont give fuck what others gonna say couse i’m fuck season ticket holder and spend a lot of fuck money to whatch those french cunts. arsene your fuck time is up go back to france you idiot.

  52. TOMTOM

Why wont Wenger spend? Is it because we cant afford to spend 30 million or does Wenger really think we dont need to spend? The problem now is that 30 million would not be enough,he needs to spend 80-100 million if we are serious about winning trophies

  53. TOMTOM

We need a top quality experienced keeper, new leftback, centre back, defensive midfielder, winger and a top class striker.

  54. TOMTOM

I’m not so sure about Walcott,he should be delivering more now but maybe Wenger has plans to play him upfront. I’d like to see him upfront with Cesc picking him out and using his pace to get in behind the back four

  55. SUGA3

realistically speaking, we will not get a GK and I am happy with Szczesny as no.1…

if I had my way it would be:

OUT: Almunia, D*******n, Diaby, Rosicky, Bendtner

IN: Subotic, Baines, Rodwell, Hazard, Benzema

    UP: Frimpong, Lansbury, JET

    LOAN: Gibbs

  56. TOMTOM

Szczesny has alot of talent but he needs help from an experienced keeper, maybe Shay Given could do that job. Szczesny will get his chance but i think if we are serious about winning the league we cant afford to gamble on such a young keeper,it could destroy his confidence if he makes a few mistakes

  57. pharo9ja

TomTom, why would u wish cancer on anyone u dimwit? The cancer I was refering to is the ”system of mediocrity” in our club that’s spawning off the tolerance of the wenger apologists with regard this shit board, management & players

  58. SUGA3

    TT,

not a chance, this dude is so cocky it’s unbelievable!

Given will not play the second fiddle to him and he is no better than Szczesny…

anyways, I am off for now, gotta read, exam tomorrow!

Imagine what that side would do do Wenger. I can imagine the number of bottles that would be smashed on the ground, the number of fourth officials who would be told off. That team would in one game boost Wigan’s goal difference.

  63. Dutchman

I ask you guys, why would benzema be impossible?!
We have loads of money to spend and there are some players leaving. I really think that benzema is coming, wenger has said a few times that he wants benzema, so… For me, it is a true rumour.
Don’t come with, it is impossible, because we have facking loads of money!!!

A very good post. I think there should be a link after each article to allow people to share it on facebook. That’s a way of promoting the site.

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed he turned down the chance to be Arsenal manager just months before taking charge at Manchester United.

The Gunners post was offered to him early in 1986, and the former Scotland boss was keen to take compatriot Walter Smith to North London with him.

But Scotland’s World Cup campaign in Mexico that year meant the proposed Arsenal switch fell through.

Ferguson made the revelations in Tuesday night’s match programme for Rangers’ Scottish Premier League clash against Dundee United – manager Smith’s last match in charge at Ibrox.

Ferguson said: “I was offered the Arsenal job and I wanted to take Walter with me.

“I thought I would sound him out when we were on Scotland duty together. We were going to play in Israel and I didn’t know that Walter was going to Rangers at that time.

“I told him that I had been offered the chance to go to Arsenal and I asked him what he thought. He was positive about it, saying they were a big club and that kind of thing.

“So I said to him ‘Do you fancy coming with me?’ Then he dropped the bombshell that he was going to Rangers.

“The thing about the Arsenal offer was that they wanted an answer right away but I couldn’t give them one because I was going to the World Cup in Mexico with Scotland.

“So the Arsenal thing fell by the wayside. Walter went to Rangers and then later that year I went to Manchester United. “

Ferguson was absolutely awful when he came to United and wasn’t given huge sums of money to spend. He was almost sacked, but managed to survive. Sorry, he wouldn’t have made it on Arsenal’s budget, not a chance in hell.

  68. MARK GOONER

its as good as 3 points with the goal differnce 3rd should be safe

anyway fuck it seeing the scum having their champions league dream end in its first year is blinding

50 years and counting you yid muppets

  69. Le Profarter

Four points required off the next two matches to seal the third place trophy unless City drop points next match

  70. Dutchman

I think the best for arsenal is that we finish fourth!
And that we lose big against aston villa and fulham, maybe it will wake up some ppl at arsenal that we are facking shit. When we would lose against aston villa and fulham ppl will see in that this team is shit, because they only won two games in their last 10.
Arsenal fans are only getting more upset with arsenal if they lose the next matches. So it would be a good thing…

  71. Dutchman

And City will drop points against bolton away and we will win against aston villa. That’s typical arsenal, lose against Stoke but an easy game against Aston vilaa.

  72. Big Dave

no dutch we don’t want 4th, early season start, could meet any team, not seeded.

    must beat villa

  73. Dutchman

Big dave, that will happen. We are at home, players will me motivated because they need third and aston villa is facking shit, so….
And fulham is facking shit too!

  74. Dutchman

Don’t worry about villa, we will win that one. It would be too bad to lose against villa at home, that’s just impossible. 100% sure that we win.

  75. albo

Interesting this from the BBC live text from a Spurs fan:

“Harry Redknapp is a legend for what he has done, but not prioritising 4th was a disaster. Time for us Spurs fans to hide and lick our wounds. Good luck City.”

How different from the way many on here view the situation. I suppose we’ve just got so used to CL football that we no longer see it as a positive, which is crazy really…

  76. GoonerGaz

Well it would be ideal if we got hammered by villa and got a draw against fulham, as long as city lose one of their games, I can see where Dutchman is comin from.

Having said that I will always be wanting Arsenal to win till the day I die, even those meaningless preseason games I love to see us win.

I havent visited that site for a while. I would rather visit footballrumours.co.uk, a shite site, than read arsenal.com.

  78. GoonerGaz

This site would be even better if the comments loaded without having to refresh, (sure it could be done with a bit of ajax code), height of laziness I know.

  79. Josip Skoblar

I’ve just watched St Etienne-Lille in Ligue 1. Hazard was head and shoulders man of the match. He scored last weekend against Nancy (1-0). I’m more and more impressed by the boy, a mix of Nasri and Cesc and, on top of it all, he scores buckets of goals! Arsene, make it your priority signing!

    Vieria Rules!

Just watched the Man City Spuds game. Spurs were really going for it in the second half and were totally dominating possession and looked likely to score at any minute.

Mancini has Teves ready amd stripped to come on, much to the delight of the home crowd. However he saw the danger and brought on Paddy instead. He was great and the Scum bearly had a sniff of a chance after that. Broke up play, looked strong and did not them past. To top it he nearly scored a great goal as he arrived late in the box and chipped the keeper only for Gallas (lol) to clear off the line! Spuds now out of CL spot – shame

We sold Vieria 6 years ago (the last time we won a trophy). Funny that.

Cool move for Wenger to sell Paddy, Pires etc to confirm with his over 30′s policy!

Good job Wenger was not in charge of Ryan Gigg’s career. Still winning Championships and Champions League finals at 39 (or whatever he is)

Put Denilson, Song or Diaby next to Vieria, even now and there is no comparison!
    Nice call Mr Wanker

  81. Big Dave

    GG.

I want an Arsenal will all the time, no matter who or what, coming 4th will not be good, you can meet iti teams or french, spanish. coming 3rd will at least show players we may want to sign that we can offer them CL at least.

  82. Josip Skoblar

Don’t be pessimistic, Big Dave. We’re a bigger club than Lille, and we pay more our players…

  83. GoonerGaz

Good point that Dave, about players not being happy to sign for us if we’re not qualified. I think it’s a safe bet anyway, Villa are terrible, Fulham will be a tougher game.

  84. Big Dave

    js

it has nothing to do with money, he has allways said he would like to play for Lille in the CL, he feels he owes it to them

  85. SUGA3

    albo,

    what’s so positive? participating?

I will stop short of saying what I would watch instead of highly competitive sport if I was interested in ‘taking part’…

but I guess you are intelligent enough to figure this out, no?

  86. SUGA3

    Big Dave,

with Pool likely to get there, it’s more like:

You’re too shit for, you’re too shit for, you’re too shit for Channel 5! You’re too shit for Channel 5!
