So City join the top four, Arsenal have to work harder starting with a win tomorrow.

by & filed under Uncategorized.

So now the northern chavs have moved alongside us into second place, I say second because we are top, we have a better goal difference so by virtue of that, we are in fact top, not joint jack shite, but top.

Now I’ve established that we’ll move on. Today the chavs play the spuds, I can only hope for a draw plus a few injuries, not that I would wish ill on anyone, well apart from either of the above, not a nasty one, just one that will contrive to lose them points over the coming months.

You see what we have developing is a top six, now that’s no good because that means too many games become big ones, it also shows where we could be had we signed a few top players, we still can be as well, the teams around us have had their signing fests so I doubt them signing anyone will make a difference, us on the other hand can still make the difference, and as I’ve said before, a few top signings and we are away, there won’t be a top 6, they’ll be a top 1, followed by the rest.

This Blaise Matuidi bloke, if he is the next Makelele then we shouldn’t let him go to Liverpool, if we can’t sign Toulalan then we should sign him, because Denilson is not good enough and we need someone that is. I thought Denilson could have had a Flamini type season, but he clearly won’t, so act now Arsene and we can clear up, we are well placed and still in everything, we need to buy players that aren’t cup tied, so Subotic, Sakho or even one of our own EPL players would fit the bill.

I don’t think the players need firing up for tomorrows game, Evra did the team talk very well, either way and after this game Wenger will know whether we are good enough or whether we need to buy, I’m prepared to shut up, if he’s prepared to buy, should we need to that is!

Tomorrow should be fun, I’m lunching with a Manc, so the pre match fun starts early, this lunch will spill into early evening when he’ll go home as all lightweight mancs do which will leave the evening for me to join my mates in the Borough of Islington at an Arsenal pub to watch us stretch our lead, onwards upwards, tomorrow is the biggest game of the season.

Have a great Sunday grovers, countdown begins!

  1. Wenger the Liar

    Keyser,

I have no idea what youre talking about re Eduardo or why what I am saying should be a wind up.

Eduardos return was hailed as the second coming, the same route Ramseys is going down.

Did I miss the games that Ramsey was Lothar Matteus? Did I miss the games that Arsene trusted Ramsey to actually start in?

    I must have.

  2. Geoff

Denilson is intelligent, ha, ha back that up, he’s a fucking dipstick. A, just because you say he is, doesn’t mean he actually is, I can see from his movement he hasn’t a clue, and when I’ve seen him interviewed he comes across as a plank, and don’t get me started on his spinning head!

  3. incesc

ramsey returning to form and fitness is more important to the club than eduardos ever was.

    future of the clubs midfield

  4. Keyser

WTL – It was hailed as the second coming ? That’s exactly what I’m talking about, you mean his contributions on the field were hyped up solely because he got injured and people felt sorry for him ?!

I don’t think anyone’s said that about Ramsey, most people who’d spent anytime watching football, could see that Eduardo in at least one aspect of his game was one of the best around.

  5. Geoff

Someone should tell twitchy that when you get past 50, you shouldn’t die you hair as it looks like a syrup, it may be!

1-1 would suit me, I hate them both equally.

  6. Wenger the Liar

    Keyser,

Thats fantastic mate, I will cut and paste your post on Eduardo in a word file marked “fox in the box”.

  7. Keyser

WTL – You do that mate, make sure you read it next time you feel the need to post the shit you just did above though.

  8. pantsR2long

Tottenham hand it to Chelsea on a platter and they pass it up. Suppose we’re not the only ones who choke under pressure eh.

  9. patthegooner

It is some kind of performance tape Geoff.

There are a few players wearing it now. Fuck knows how it works. I suppose it is the next fad after bright lime boots.

  10. zeus

What a game. I have to say I didn’t know that Bale was that good.

So glad that dick Drogba missed the penalty.

Very good viewing that game. Draw the best outcome for us, though I wanted a Chelsea loss.

I might be a bit patronizing but I don’t see Spurs maintaining a challenge. St totteringhams’d day will come a few weeks later, but a challenge they won’t maintain.

  11. Keyser

It’s just support for muscles isn’t it ? instead of strapping the whole leg, they just follow the line of the muscle that’s been strained ?!

  12. patthegooner

That draw gives us a massive opportunity tomorrow night.

Come on Arsenal, this could be a springboard for a great season.

  13. Queen of suburbia

Actually Suga your point on movies doesn’t hold up to scrutiny – clearly some people are more knowledge about movies than others. For example, I’d trust James kings opinion more than I would my postman’s.

  14. Arsene Nose Best

that draw is fuck all, there’s no way we will go up there tomorrow and win,not with the shit we have in defence and in goal.

  15. patthegooner

That sounds about right Keyser, but I bet players start wearing it as they think it looks cool. Give it a month and there will be some bizarre colours being worn.

  16. Keyser

Didn’t think about that, Theo should get some illuminous ones so that players trying to tackle him from behind end up blinded by the flashing light in front.

  17. SUGA3

    QoS,

OK, here it is: James King may wax lyrical about the director’s, cameraman’s and everybody else’s workshop, but if the plot does not hold water and/or the actors are wooden, then the movie will be perceived as gash, simple as…

same with our favourite subject: all about stats but not very pleasing on the eye…

that draw is fuck all, there’s no way we will go up there tomorrow and win,not with the shit we have in defence and in goal.

    Classic BBK

  19. Queen of suburbia

That makes no sense Suga? As if James king would review a movie and ignore the plot. Like I said previously, it’s a very poor analogy.

  20. SUGA3

what I am saying is that whether you like the plot or not is a matter of taste…

I may not necessarily like the same what he does and it does not make me any less knowledgeable, and this is what you are trying to imply here: whoever does not like Denilson, certainly knows sweet FA about football…

whereas these who say he is the best thing since the sliced bread are the fountains of truth, wisdom and knowledge…

  21. SUGA3

I have read enough reviews of movies which I have watched before or after doing so to know that the critics do not have monopoly for being correct, not in the slightest…

I prefer to form my own opinion and my opinion is different from yours, which does not make it any less valid…

  22. Queen of suburbia

I haven’t mentioned denilson Suga. It’s your paranoia again. I was just explaining why Tony s had used a poor analysis.

But to pick you up on one thing. Good taste is a relative concept in order to have good taste other people must have Poor taste.

Everybody thinks they have a good sense of humour, but it’s impossible.

  23. zeus

    2) As pointed out by @empireofthekop, Chelsea haven’t been this poor since they were first established way back in 2003.

    ********************************
    Hahahahahahahahahaha.

  24. SUGA3

    QoS,

jeez, it’s not ‘paranoia’, as far as I remember, Tony S used this analogy in relation to how he is perceived, no?

but go on, pick holes all you like…

there is not thing as template for good taste or sense of humour as such, is there?

the world would be a bloody boring place if that was the case, eh?

  25. Jaguar reloaded

    Suga3,

Shout SOS if you wanna escape.:)

Why would you wanna waste your precious time debating with some retaded mugs?

  26. Queen of suburbia

Yes he did and it was a bad analogy. Which I stated and you then proceeded to defend it with very weak arguments.

If you don’t want me to pick holes, don’t present bad argument. Simples.

  27. SUGA3

    QoS,

look, if majority thinks something is a turd, no matter how many superb reviews you write, there is still good possibility that it still is a turd…

no matter how many fancy wrappers and you put around it and how badly you try to polish it, it is still what it is: a turd…

  28. Queen of suburbia

Suga I appreciate your opinion and also enjoy the discussion, which is why I don’t include you amongst the trolls to be ignored.

  29. BigRed1

Good, they both dropped points, so tomorrow night we can really put the hammer down……

    providing

Wenger puts out the right team in the right frame of mind and gives everybody clear instructions of their role

Wenger starts making the right substitutions at the right times, not much to ask after 13 years

We don`t boss the game 60/40, create 6 glorious chances taking none, only for them to get 2 half chances and score both

    No prattish own goals

We get 3 nailed on penalties that are not given while Rooney trips over Berbatov and gets one

Fletcher commits 23 fouls gets a warning but Song gets 2 yellow cards for a push and a crap hairdo

Howard Webb breaks the habit of a lifetime and gives an impartial performance refereeing us

Am i just a bit too optimistic?

  30. Mr B

Should female presenters on sports channels be benched or allowed to strut their stuff?

A MAN. A TV set. Refreshments and a soccer game to watch. Normally, that would be one very happy scene. But lately, something has happened to disrupt this boys-own bliss – women sports presenters have invaded the pitch.

The result has been an outcry from male fans.

They’re not complaining about the presenters’ pretty faces and honed bodies, mind you, though some fans – both men and women – reckon the eye candy factor is played up and trivialises sports.

No, lads are in a lather because they think the women lack the technical knowledge and in-depth understanding of sports.

The issue came up some time back when a columnist questioned the infiltration of female presenters into sports shows.

Jeremy Au Yong mentioned that “the likes of Jamie Yeo, Paula Malai Ali and Charlie Webster don’t appear to be given any roles that require deep insight or analysis. Rather, they, helm variety programmes or co-host football shows – where it seems their sole purpose is to be eye candy.”

Former radio deejay Jamie Yeo, Channel V veejay Paula Malai Ali from Malaysia, English model Charlie Webster, American journalist Erin Ade and Filipino celebrity Drinie Aguilar are seen in programmes such as Club EPL, Nokia Football Crazy and Caltex Score Today on Star Sports. The shows are produced in Singapore and broadcast throughout Asia

Then came the letters. Lawyer Vimalan Sivasubramaniam, 33, wrote that most viewers “wish to get cold, hard analysis and predictions on the matches from credible commentators … not glamorous ex-DJs, veejays, models or celebrities.”

Nigel Accha, 24, said: “I wonder if they really know what they’re talking about.”

Former national soccer coach Goh Tat Chuan, 32, said: “To be a good commentator, you need to have a good knowledge of the game, and that comes with hands-on experience after playing the game at the highest level.

“Putting female presenters on is superficial unless they have good knowledge of the game.”

He added: “What troubles me most is when the girls try to talk and act as if they know the game really, really well and then try hard to say something intelligent, but it’s always out of context.”

ESPN Star Sports, which runs both the Star Sports (Ch 24) and ESPN (Ch 23) channels, could not provide viewership figures, saying only that it has received “extremely encouraging response and results” since the women appeared last June.

Mark Richmond, who has been doing soccer commentary for a Singapore TV station since 1988, said he supported having female presenters as long as they knew their stuff. But, he added, Star portrayed them as sex sirens.

Huw Bevan, ESPN Star Sports’ senior vice-president for productions, replied: “Saying they’re on the programme only because they’re good-looking is like saying someone is in the NBA (National Basketball Association) only because he is tall. Their attractiveness is only a part of the reason they were hired. More importantly, they must have the talent and screen personality to inform, entertain and engage viewers.”

He stressed the girls didn’t give expert analysis but facilitated discussions between viewers and experts.

But Sivasubramaniam insisted the girls do not add value to the show.

Perhaps the men are just unhappy about women stepping into their territory.

Former coach Goh said: “Soccer is still a male-dominated game. It definitely makes more sense, and is easier, for a guy to relate to it with another man.” – The Singapore Straits Times/Asia News Network

  31. Queen of suburbia

On movies Suga, a recent example. Mama Mia. Critics hated it, majority of ordinairy folk loved it (as evidenced by it being the most popular DVD release of all time).

The majority were wrong. In music, in film, in art in most spheres, the majority embrace the safe, the average, the mediocre. Psychologist have proved groupconvergence exists. That’s why I’d listen to an expert opinion before a lay opinion.

  32. incesc

sorry apart from you queen obviously.

my sister supports chelsea and my girlfriend liverpool.

thats where i formed my opinion

  33. Kushagra India

The best example in movies is Shawshank Redemption which was a box office dud when released and rest is history!!

  34. Queen of suburbia

I think you missed the point of the discussion incesc. It was really about expert opinion vs lay opinion.

But yes the movie analogy made by Tony S was a bad one in my view.

  35. SUGA3

but yeah, I can see your point…

the critics laid into it for being a bit lowbrow, but the people liked it for being a bit of harmless entertainment, IMO…

  36. patthegooner

End of the day, and it may sound selfish, but the most important opinion is your own, and hopefully you come to that decision based on your own mind rather than being influenced by the masses.

Playerwise I have rated a few of the Marmites over the years with Grimandi and Senderos included, and really rated Adebayor until he turned into a twat. And Flamini, I rated him before he moved in Midfield.

Yet talk to another Gooner and they will have reason to not rate all of those listed.

  37. Mayank

Have to side with QoS on this one. The masses know fuckall about quality. Just look at the current music scenario for further proof.

I’m 99% sure anyone who’s studied music will hate most of the popular stuff now-a-days.

As for the critics it’s 50-50, some would be openly critical about the current popular music and some would cater to the demand.

  38. BigRed1

Goonerclive, your comment has made me think,
that just maybe all our big games should be played on a monday night.
i`ve had a lovely weekend, no stress, no piss taking at the fishing match this morning,
well, only from me to the scousers,
and here i am actually looking forward to a monday,
    lifes good

  39. Mr B

Except that sports is about winning not putting on a classy performance Mayank.

We might as well applaud the team with the best kit or the most handsome players.

  40. SUGA3

    Mayank,

masses are what they are: masses…

they usually need to be told what to think, what to wear and all that – I consider myself to be lucky enough to be blessed with enough intelligence to form my own opinion…

and yes, contemporary music is mostly a load of crap, not so long ago you would need a bit of talent to succeed…

now all you need is Simon fucking Cowell…

  41. Mayank

Classy performances are more likely to win than non-classy performances though. But that wasn’t the point of the debate was it?

  42. patthegooner

Did anyone else notice Gareth Bale being a complete pansy earlier.

I think it was Essien that caught him. Bales arm went in the air straight away calling for the physio. It was if Essien had just broke his leg!!!! 20 seconds later and after he realises that the ref is not going to book Essien, he is fine.

He did the same in the 2nd half, same arm, but this time he did a comedy hobble, only for someone to play the ball to him and then he was right as rain.

    What a cock.

  43. Kushagra India

The one thing you can never be wrong about is your own opinion. It’s when you start giving your reasons that you lay yourself open.

  44. zeus

Have to agree with pat. As it relates the the football side of things (this being a footy blog after all) the so called experts have done nothing to make me feel the need solicit their opinion on any topic whatsoever.

Most of them are unlearned mouth-breathing inbreds that don’/can’t offer much more than armchair, man-in-the-bar opinions without thoughtful incite or analysis.

And even the ones that know what they are talking about, they don’t have a monopoly on truth&/or expertise. I’ll make my own mind up thank you very much.

  45. patthegooner

    Same here SUGA3

although you do use the likes of reviews as a reference, I will still find myself loving a film that only got a 5 on IMDB but hating one that gets 7-8

  46. BigRed1

Maybe someone could send Wenger a DVD of Fever Pitch, there`s some very useful back 4 coaching tips in there………

Plus the line that fits the gunners so many times
`Ive seen this film before and it doesn`t finish up shagging on the carpet`

  47. Limestonegunner

Pat, thought much the same about Bale and his pretty little leg ribbon. Let’s not hold our breath that the shine for Bale in the media will dim despite his weak antics. What they should notice however is that he didn’t have a particularly effective game despite playing a weak 3rd choice defender.

  48. gambon

    Don’t agree with that Mayank

Music is sooooo opinion based, there is no ‘good’ or ‘bad’ music, i swear to god some people listen to bullshit music and hear beethovens 5th.

  49. Mayank

Too atmospheric for my tastes Mr B.

Suga3, not really the point. Professionally or not you’ve probably studied music in some way. This helps you form an opinion about it, better than your average Joe.

Intelligence has a part to play in it but mostly its exposure. If I’ve read 50 books I’m better placed to critique one than if I’ve read 5. Even if the guy who’s read 5 is more intelligent.

Of course if you;re intelligent you’d be more likely to critically analyse a situation.

I do agree that we might have the potential to be better coaches and managers than the guys doing it, but finally they have the experience and the exposure.

  50. Mr B

I take it by that u mean ambient mayank.

Again arts, where its a matter of taste, are not a good analogy for sports, that are focused on results pertaining to strict criteria such as goals.

  51. SUGA3

    Mayank,

I played in a few bands and DJ’d all over Poland for a good few years, so yeah, I guess my music knowledge is better than average…

sure, I get your point, experience is everything…

which makes me wonder: why a superb, intelligent coach (which AW is without a shadow of doubt) with broad horizons and all the experience in the world keeps getting the basics so wrong on occasions?

  52. Man

Bolton for champs league…I’d love love it absolutely love it

I see the mancs are running scared of Nasri. Who wouldn’t?…expect some kicking tactics tomorrow

How are all you grovers doing today?

  53. Mayank

Gambon music is subjective, just about the most subjective thing in the world. But people liking a certain kind of music means nothing. They like it because it’s what they’re exposed to the most. Even if it is crap.
During the late 50′s and early 60′s Jazz was just about the most popular genre in the mainstream. The kind of stuff that was played could compete with the Beethovens and the Mozarts on some levels. However if the same albums came out now I doubt they’d get the same sales or airtime. Not because people are dumber now, just because of what they’re exposed to.

Managers and agents figured its easier to sell records by creating the correct hype and using the correct marketing strategy. Rather than wait for those extraordinary once in a generation talents to come along.

  54. Mayank

Mr B, that’s why I said it wasn’t to my tastes, rather than calling it crap. That’s why I refrain from talking about hip-hop and rap. I don’t get it and don’t want to call it crap because of that. Different thing to getting it and knowing it’s crap. Though I’m sure hip-hop is ;)

  55. gambon

Mayank, also tastes and fashions within music change.

I remember thinking definately maybe was the most amazing album ever, by 2000 it was so dated I couldn’t listen to it. I do agree though, if you bombard a population with something they will grow to crave or love it, whether it be Xfactor, eastenders or McDonald’s.

  56. SUGA3

    Mayank,

    blasphemy!

it surely depends what you consider to be ‘hip hop’ – modern stuff is a lot of dung, but I could name a few artists who have been around for ages (or used to, like 2Pac and GURU) are class music and lyrics wise..
