Who to, who to, who would pick a gooner! Today that is.

by & filed under Uncategorized.

That is one of our songs by the way! A number of numbnuts suggested we all support the mancs or Madrid after Pedro’s post yesterday, so today I have decided to support the spuds, they are after all fielding an ex Arsenal man Gallas as their captain and Arsenal stink…

…No I can’t even joke about it, sorry!

Pedro tried to make the point yesterday that spending a lot of money shouldn’t lead to financial ruin if you are well managed, that point was lost on a few twats that think Arsenal football club only began somewhere between 1996 and when we moved into the new stadium, well to those few, the block of flats around the corner used to be a football stadium, and for 90 odd years, we played in it.

Onto today, I have gone over and over again what team to put out today, it’s a tough one, no Walcott, Van Persie or Vermaelen, plenty of opportunity though, we aren’t weak, far from it, with 63 under 21′s to choose from, we should have no problems. Right boss!

I think we could beat Bolton with our reserves 3 nil, so picking a team today is easy, my problem is, who would I let loose on them.

I think we have to let Vela and Arshavin play either side of Chamakh, Vela deserves a run and I think he’ll turn out to be a star, he has never been given the chances that say Song and Denilson have been, so I think a prolonged run will give him the confidence he needs to be a fixture, much the same as Walcott got, and is.

So my forward line would be Vela, Chamakh and Arshavin. The defence almost picks itself with Vermaelen injured, but I would pick Gibbs in front of Clichy, as I think Clichy needs some competition. So my line up at the back would be Almunia, Sagna, Koscielny, Squillaci, Gibbs.

So now onto the midfield and the toughest one, obviously the captain has to be picked and Jack Wilshere for me given his time at Bolton, so who would be the third? Denilson and Song are fit again, Eboue is more than capable on the right, but Diaby is big and Wenger needs a big boy in there against Bolton, so I would pick Diaby over Song, for presence.

Both Song and Wilshere can play the defensive role and both can attack in spades, so my midfield for this game would be Diaby, Cesc, Wilshere.

To sum up, my team for the game against Bolton would be the following…

Almunia

Sagna, Koscielny, Squillaci, Gibbs

Diaby, Cesc, Wilshere

Vela, Chamakh, Arshavin

With that team, I can see another Blackpoolesque type cricket score, in the old days, when we played our football in the block of flats, Bolton was always a nailed on battering, we never thought about getting bullied because we always had big sods in there that would push back, well I think we have a few in the team now, I also believe this team could be on the brink, provided he plays the best team for the job and not just his favourites.

Also they are playing their reserve keeper today so unless he has a blinder, they are already at a disadvantage.

Arsene, Jacky boy and Vela are ready, and Vela has been patient, he spent 3 years in Spain for you, let him loose!

Have a great day Grovers, wish Everton well, but wish Arsenal weller!

This should make Fabregas feel lucky, aye, Barca are down 2 at HOME! Hehe, Barca cunts…all tippy tappy with no real goals yet.

  2. Kreshnik

wow … barca 2 down with a relegation team … they’re playing shit too … mascherano was shit … that adriano dude they bought looked shit too … wtf is going on with the world

  3. Mayank

The French contingent was rested… Did they have a long flight?

Lurch, I think Squil has enough experience. Kos is Verm’s long term partner.
Also, what about his height? I think he handled the aerial threat very well.

  4. Lurch LeRouge

Mayank. I agree…., just saying it’s on wengers shoulders, but koz cops it as he’s the target at the time. He’ll come good. That blow from Davies would have seen 9/10 defenders spend a few min seeing stars and sniffing salts.

  5. DaleDaGooner

Hercules, break their backs with one more goal. Pack the defense, they need to sign Shawcross so that they can mess Messi up next game around

  6. Lurch LeRouge

As for the aerial threat??? I think Bolton let us off easy, the corners barely cleared Cesc on the near post. There was only 1 long throw of Merit into the box and route 1 was only employed 2 or 3 times.

Bolton tried mostly to play the ball into feet commendably so it’s a little early to sign off on our aerial capability no?

  7. Stu

HA! Delighted. Matthew James for PNE, a man u loanee, has injured himself because he flew into a tackle looking for revenge after someone tackled him to win the ball. He’s been stretchered off.

  8. Mayank

Nah LL, I was talking overall we haven’t had a problem with long balls as such, we’ve also played Blackburn and ‘Pool…
Early days still, but if we could get stronger in that area it would at least make the oppo think about their gameplan.

  9. Lurch LeRouge

Coco still needs to learn to communicate, could do with coming off his line a little sooner to ease the pressure on his CB’s.

How much did we miss Walcott in the first half today? We had no gameplan on the rhs without him and Chamakh had no role.

    Good match overall…

I predicted 4-1 Yday so Im a smug cnut.

Maybe I take things for granted but beating Bolton at home is the bread and butter of any title contender and we proved that today. I’ll hold judgment until we play Chelsea to see where we are at…

Braga wont be easy so I hope Verma is back and plays with Squilly as he looked assured. I enjoyed seeing him shout at Eboue to get into position at one point. The sign of someone who has confidence in their experience.

Almunia did OK and couldnt have done much else on the goal – instinct was that the player would lob for goal after the back header.

Good lineup and subs by AW and a strong squad if you think who was missing, except at GK, holding Mid and another experienced CB.

Chamakh MOM for me for workrate and creativity.

Step in the right direction by Cesc today too rounded of by the pass for Velas goal

That is funny What a stupid fucking name. Is it seashell in Japanese? mind you Rooney knowing anything but scouse is stretching it

I was just thinking to myself that I should always bet on Arsenal and barca and Madrid.

I know arsenal well enough and Barca and Madrid will win most of their matches anyway. hehe.

    Shows what I know.

  14. Geoff

What a shame for Barca, Pique gets his head smashed in and they have no subs.

I wonder if the footballing gods are paying the dirty bastards back, no, they can’t be, they’re are only 2 nil down at home.

    Ha, ha, fucking ha.

  15. Geoff

The only Barca DNA that lot will have in them is what their manager deposits after this result, wankers. I hope they lose every game they play.

Are they going to get fucked hard tonight.

  16. chris

Another good result at home but reading the comments back a lot of nerves especially after 1-1 and still a lot of doubts about half the team.
    Perwsoanlly, I think:
Jack’s in the home team for sure and maybe the first choice team – he was taken off (like Chamakh cos he’s going to play in the CL I think, I hope)
Gibbs and Eboue are the home full backs cos they’re better going forward
Cesc is back and will get better
CBs aren’t there yet but some good signs (considering they haven’t played together before)
Amunia may be playing up to his best because the pressure’s off now and h’s trying (quite successfully at the moment) to show all his doubters that he is up to it
Lots of harder tests obviously but can’t argue with the result especially with the injuries (nice to hear AW bigging up JET and Afobe a well as Vela yesterday – maybe maybe Project Youth has got a chance next year or the year after or something but all the same….)

Also didn’t understand Geoff’s HT comment that we should be three up and saying Wenger should make changes now sort of thing

  17. Martin Hayes Never Missed

GoonerT1m – you can do the checking back through yesterdays posts then to see who said it first :0)

Im off to feel smug in the shower…thats the name of our 19 year old Swedish Nanny by the way!

  18. O.G.

What a great great result today! Watching barchit get thumped by hercules. Pickey got injured too, teach him to spit on his dad!

  19. Martin Hayes Never Missed

Its a fact that Gallas and Almunia hated each other for various reasons so perhaps that heavy burden may save Als nerves…

  20. zeus

And so the inevitable complacency sets in. Barca losing 2-0 at home to a team that will in all likeliness be relegated. EXCELLENT.

No one will touch our undefeated season for some time yet.

  21. Mayank

Okay so this is another season that the greatest team in world will not be undefeated.
We are by far the greatest team the world …

  22. Geoff

I’m just glad that the spitting, pikey, manc cunt got his head smashed in, that’s for all the Cesc shit Pique, and as Timmy said, for spitting at your dad you bad mannered bastardo.

  23. DaleDaGooner

Xavi, …please so do you think Fabregas still HAVE THE DNA? errrr..mmmph!
Xavi… dO YOU THINK fABREGAS IS SAYING “tHANK FUCK I DIDN’T MOVE”…ERRM

bY THE Way that is Xavi getting pumped in the showers with the responses…

  24. DaleDaGooner

Hmm, with Drenthe, Trezeguet and Valdez playing for them, and that cat of a keeper, i Think Hercules will survive the drop…just

  25. DaleDaGooner

I’m looking at the pitch at the Santiago Bernabeu and i’m thinking, all the money they spend and make, the field looks like that of Blackpools?

  26. zeus

Cesena scores on the 1/2 hr mark. Milan 1-0 down.

I would have lost all my money if I had bet this weekend. Score may not stay like this though.

  27. SFOGooner

    Give song a break ..

arshavin was easily the worst player. a player in his prime and costs 15 mill, but still cannot time his runs or score in a one on one chances.

if vela had the same chances he would atleast scored 2 or 3 ..

  28. choy

Arsh is not a striker, he’s been a playmaker all his life.

He is not a runner like Vela, Theo et all. He is used to making more of assists rather than scoring.

Having to re learn everything at 29 must be pretty difficult!

  29. A

I dunno about that choy – Arshavin here has got very few assists, and is very greedy often when he could pass to someone else in a better position, it’s a bit weird.

I don’t zeus, i rate both of them, and reckon wenger could’ve done wonders with them. Ryan Babel though – really hope there was never any genuine interest!

  30. choy

A… what I meant to say is that he’s always been more of an assister rather than a goal scorer, he’s having to change his style of play at Arsenal because he plays on the left and he’s become more of a winger.

  31. zeus

    A

Maybe Benzema made a move to the top level too soon. Would’ve been a gr8 buy for us, but Ribery?

THE MOST OVERRATED BIG NAME PLAYER I HAVE EVER SEEN. What do you possibly see in him.

  32. Man

Arshavin has played either left of a 433 or behind a striker, with license to move as he pleases, most of his career (see . We initially tried playing behind the striker but he couldn’t hack it. So he was moved to the left of a 433 where he has done better.
Frankly, I was expecting more from him but lets not make any excuses for him.

  33. A

i dunno choy, he certainly has had to adapt to the prem and physical nature of it all but he has alot of freedom, if he wanted to be an assister then he’s in an ideal position to do so, but he just seems to be a very greedy player.

i dunno zeus, he’s not had much luck with injuries nor found any form in the last 18 months or so, but before that on form i’d have put him alongside kaka as the next level below messi, sensational player, amazing dribbler and loads of vision, uses ball very well etc, that’s on form though, which he hasn’t been recently….

If we’d signed him I reckon he’d have been viewed as one of the top players around

  34. Keyser

Don’t get why we have to find someone to pick on, we needed a goal last week Arshavin stepped up, we scored another 4 today, and we got them from 4 different names.

Arshavin looked busy today and sharper than previous weeks if not in the box.

He’s someone you give the ball to, because you know they’ll do something with it, that’s what he was to Zenit, not a workhorse or someone who keeps the ball moving and creates and sustains momentum, but someone who’s looking to provide the end product.

Even with him admitting he’s found it tough and he’s not happy with his form, he’ll still have a pretty decent record goal and assist wise.

We just need balance as does he, when to track back, when to keep the ball moving, when to provide the end product.

  35. SFOGooner

    Keyser
We need to start getting clinical ..

The chelsea match is not far away and we may not get as many chances as today ..

just saying arshavin is neither an assists nor scores a lot. can’t remeber a lot of good crosses he puts in either ..

  36. Ray in SF

SFOG, Arshavin makes spaces for others because he has to be watched closely even on a ‘bad’ day…so I’m not so concerned about the lack of assists

and I thought he was unlucky today, offside a lot, true, but a couple of offside calls were questionable and he had a reasonable penalty appeal…

on a different day with the same ops he might have scored a hatful

  37. G STAR

Boy Better Know standard Look Out that’s the anthem. Ask all the mandem, out ere in the grime scene I’m a champion.
Until I get a mansion Ima keep murdering spitters at random

  38. OPG

Strange results this weekend and looks like in the tennis Federer and Djokovic are going to 5 sets with similar break point patterns..

  39. incesc

    hanson cunt

can wenger show hansen videos before everygame?

if liverpool won 4-1 he would be saying champions.

and they didnt show diabys injury, if that happened to a liverpool player it woulf be all over motd

  40. MickyDidIt89

    Morning SIG,
Shame you missed game, but family comes first.
I think you will hear very mixed reports on here.
    For me:
    UPS
Cesc looked good and really bothered again
    Chamakh busy and great potential
    Same for CB’s

    Down
    AA’s finishing
    Ebouie’s fantasy injuries

As I said, you will get a very different view from many. Song was MOTM on Setanta, whereas slated on here for first half performance, and I would argue that had AA been able to shoot, we would have wrapped the game up.

All in all, great day, especially in conjunction with results elswhere.

  41. Lurch LeRouge

    Morning Sabeel and Micky.

Song came good in the second half, he’s developing a pattern it seems. Cesc and Rosicky played some lovely through balls.
I’d say one of the ups, despite his finishing was that AA23 put in a good shift.
It was also great to see wenger make an early sub, JW made a great cross to set up Koz forthe first goal but did little else so came off for Diaby around 55 min. Unfortunately Diaby got hammered inside 10 min.

  42. Lurch LeRouge

If we are looking for a backup keeper, Gilks had a blinder for Blackpool on MoTD. Worth keeping an eye on. Reminiscent of Al v Barcalona.

  43. MickyDidIt89

    Lurch,
Sorry, just popped next door to watch MOTD again.
Yip, agree with everything you say, and yes AA did look fitter, just shame it was he, and not Theo, on the end of those superb through balls. Now there’s something I wouldn’t have said last season!

  44. Lurch LeRouge

Yeah Micky we really missed Theo yesterday I thought. Chamakh was lost in the first half without him to play 1-2. I can appreciate the need to rotate but our RHS looked ropey in attack with Eboue in RB, he wasn’t his usual overlapping self. Possibly due to JW and Song turning over possession on a semi regular basis.

Did you hear about Barca losing 2 nil to newly promoted Hercules? Just deserts.

  45. MickyDidIt89

    Lurch,
Barca, yes. All results were very amusing (Chavs, I know, but you can’t have everything).
As far as our right side is concerned, we do tend to go a little narrow on both flanks, and this is where Theo’s speed becomes more effective.
