Why did we sign Squillaci? Strikers? We got loads of strikers! You only have to look.

by & filed under Uncategorized.

I was watching the clip of Squillaci playing his first game against Blackburn and wondered why we bought him? He came from a pretty good side that was playing in the Champions league qualifiers, in fact Seville are a top Spanish side, we already had Vermaelen and spent big on Koscielny so where does Squillaci fit in?

I am happy we signed another centre back and have always had the belief that we need 4 top defenders in that position to get through a season and we didn’t just buy him as a spare as 30 is hardly on the heap.

So the question is, did we sign him as the main centre back or the spare, time will tell, but I hope he starts against Bolton so I can see for myself, he looks the part anyway.

The other area for concern is the absence of star striker Robin Van Persie. I love Robin, always have, always will, the trouble is, Robin is always injured, I suspect he’s been injured more in his Arsenal career than fit, I wouldn’t mind betting he’s had more time off than Rosicky, now I’m not having a dig, I’m just stating what I believe to be true, if it’s not, then it sure does feel that way.

So we have to plan for most of the season without him, now I said in the summer that Eduardo should be replaced, I was shouted down in some quarters as I was told Chamakh replaced Eduardo, I said Chamakh replaced Adebayor, however, that’s just semantics.

So I started to look at our strikers, Arshavin (sort of) Chamakh, Theo (injured) Robin (injured) Bendtner (injured) now 3 of the 5 are always injured for long spells so is it time to say that they will always be suspect and start to plan for life without them? I think so, but do we need to buy? Maybe not.

We are forgetting we have Carlos Vela, now if he’s not a striker and we don’t intend to use him, then we should get rid of him, me, I would give him a run as I think he will be a star, but he needs a Denilson type run, not a few cameos, he needs to replace Theo and play in every game, then I think we will see the real Carlos Vela.

We also have JET, he’s a striker, same with him, give him a run, or try Afobe or Aneke, try any of them, but please don’t revert to the lone striker like we did last year with Arshavin up front on his Jack Jones, we have strikers, use them, if we don’t think they are good enough, then have a clear out and buy some, I think they are good enough though and in January, we have Wellington arriving and he looks the part.

And if anyone thinks I use too many commas, sorry, but that’s what they’re for. Punctufuckination, and as I write for a living, I’m allowed the indulgence. Thanks.

Have a nice day grovers, tomorrow Pedro makes an appearance so the wit will replace the angst!

Dennis, it didn’t need it, did you think it should have some, like this
punctu-fuckin-ation? Note I did leave out the ‘g’ as I felt it looked better.

    Shabby Geoff, just plain shabby!

It should’ve been…. punctu, fuckin, ation!

  2. gambon

Im with A&N……fried chicken all the way.

Steve Biko, that was a hugely boring post.

Indian women are fit, no doubt.

  3. Arse&Nose©

Samir Masri, I hear Aussie women are noisy in bed, and they like to be fucked by people from england without condoms. :P

Geoff, hooters hot wings are legendary!

    Morning/afternoon/evening all

Good comments, Geoff. Although I did think it was spelt “punctfuckuation”

Don’t tell me we’re honoured to have both Geoff AND Pedro here at the same time today?

Back to the post, it would be worth working out what RVP costs per game and per goal. I’ve always had a theory about the damage a permanently injured player does to the team, because of the disruption to its rhythm and style of play. And we have half a team of crocks!

I love RVP, and he is Mr Arsenal, but we have to make some serious decisions at the end of this season if not before. For 80k per week we could have a Djecko, for instance.

Always pissed me off about C Ronaldo, when he was at Man U. While he spent half the time on his backside trying to win free kicks, he always got up, even from some nasty tackles. Ditto Rooney, and he had that terrible injury a few years ago. Well, I think this season we are praying on Vermaelen, Almunia, Chamakh, Song and Fab in particular to remain as injury free as possible.

Thanks Sabeel. Sorry dont want to take up too much space on LG. I can give Geoff my email etc if necessary or he can pass it on. Cheers

    from givemefootball…

Mark Schwarzer is allegedly planning to sign a pre-contract with Arsenal in order to secure a move to the Emirates on a free transfer next summer.

The Fulham goalkeeper was identified as Arsenal’s number one target during the transfer window but a deal could not be struck between the two London clubs.

This is eerily similar to the Chamakh purchase, where we waited for a free and probably threw away a real chance of winning something. Let’s just hope that is not the case here. I would see no reason in buying Shwarzer in a year’s time. None whatsoever, except to save money.

  7. Arsenal Tom

    morning all,

fuck a pre contract, why don’t we just tell schwarzer to buy himself out in jan and we’ll cover whatever it costs in a signing on fee… easy peasy

  8. samir masri

    ARSE&NOSE

As I said that I am From England. And its my mom who still leaves back in oz.AND I Don’t give a Fuck About Aussie women. But I would’nt mind shagging them without the Condom.

  9. Jaguar reloaded

If we sign Schwarzer next summer,it will be the best of indicators that Wenger is indeed a greedy vulture, who is only interested in his own bonuses and nothing else.

  10. Young Guns Rule

    Steve Biko,

I read that, very funny. I posted a response that he wont publish so i thought i would pop it on here also.

‘What a joke blog, Man Utd fans are pathetic. You can’t even accept that Rooney is the master of his own demise.

He has acted selfishly and his actions directly affected how we performed in the world cup, if he had kept it in his pants we might have had the ‘real’ Rooney in South Africa.

You idiotic fans of a club shrouded in scandal at present can’t see that your players court the papers as much as possible in order to raise their profile. If you go looking for interest in the ‘Red Tops’ don’t expect it not to come back and bite you on the backside.

Rooney’s selfishness let down a whole nation don’t you forget that, also, any moron that encourages their children to look at footballers as role models should have their children taken away from them, footballers are (in the majority) selfish, greedy individuals who look out for number 1 and to be honest there is nothing wrong with that, if it’s role models your after then look at Ghandi, Churchill or Mandela’.

  11. Beezer No.8

    Morning Grovers,

Good post Geoff, I hope he does give either JET or Vela a start or both, its only Bolton and we should turn them over even with a few injuries.

p.s – is two comma’s too many in that sentence?? ;)

  12. arsenal4ever

nice post. I think Wenger got it wrong again to be that stingy!!! What will we do if Chamakh or Vela got injured? I dont want to see this lazy russian as CF again. I would try even with JET. He has massive talent so let him play. He cant do worse and scores in almost each game he is playing. Even in preseason he did it. Cant believe he let Dudu go without any replacement. Time for a change which means another manager, too. He wont bring us any glory back. Just speaking and not acting doesnt work out at the end of the day. Someone like Pep would be good imo.

Anyone out there also played the PES 2011 demo yet? Brillant, PES is back to his best. Best football game ever. FIFA cant be better this year. Passing is so fluid unbelieveable!! Just the GK needs an improvement and hopefully will be done until retail version is out.

  13. arsenal4ever

samir masri you need to make an playstation plus account which isnt a big problem. Just make 90 days trial which cost around 15 € and you get another content, too. Trust me it is every penny worth or you wait until 15th next week. Will chck for FIFA also but this year PES all the way. Unbelieveable game. You play it and have the impression watching a real football game but you are the actor :-) !!!!

  14. arsenal4ever

I am not sure if MS will join. I have a feeling Wenger has another target. Hopefully I am right. Stekelenburg for me!!!

  15. Mayank

Pedro I don’t think he’s particularly lazy but that he’s just not fit enough to play in the PL for 90 mins.

It’s a price you have to pay for his genius.

  16. choy

It was hardly a last resort.

For all of wenger’s talk about youth and all that he didn’t trust any youngsters to lead the line!

  17. Pedro

Mayank, he said Vela reminded him of Fowler… surely if that were that case, it’d be a better idea to stick him there?

  18. Geoff

The thing is next summer Schwarzer will be a year older and we shouldn’t be looking at bargain basement.

Also, if Schwarzer does sign a pre contract with us, what the fuck will that do to the other two hapless keepers.

  19. Mayank

Physically would Vela be any better than Arsh? Both play off a big striker. Arsh just had more experience of the PL.

Choy, for all of Wenger’s talk of youth we have Gael, Cesc, Song, Denilson and Theo in the first team. Even Ramsey and JW are pretty close.

He trusts youth but only if they’re good enough at that time. He get’s it wrong on occasions, but you could hardly hay any of the youth players were ready to lead the line. It might have set them back a few years.

  20. Jaguar reloaded

Stu,thats not true.Wenger never plays for the title, its all about UCL qualification, and we will always be in the contention from January to the end of the season.

  21. rooster

Pedro / A4E, that’s the point though, if he’s carrying a knock all year and filling in up front on his jack jones for 3 months, then why track back that often? away from home we’d have a compact 5 in midfield and at home the onus is on us to attack and therefore leave some players up. He’s started this season looking ok for us even though russia are not playing well and getting a lot of criticism…. the bloke is a genius

  22. arsenal4ever

exactly Geoff. Therefore I think WEnger lost his interest in him and hopefully we will see in jan. another GK. This time a great ones!! Is this Aasgard guy ( spelling ) who is also linked with manure any good?

  23. choy

Mayank.. you cannot keep playing players out of their positions!

Arsh was forced to play there and ended up being injured, missing crucial games!

  24. rooster

Geoff, the schwarzer transfer was this summer or never in my opinion, unless he gets him as coach next year and registers him as a player to sit on the bench with chesney in goal. He cannot sign pre contract with us as we are UK club, it has to be foreign (at least that’s what I thought). Almunia and Fabianski will either step up this year and have blinders after the rocket they must surely have had or they will crunble in the big games again…. I hope it is the former.

  25. Mayank

Keep playing player out of position? We had both our strikers injured. It was irritating as hell to see Arsh play there but we had no other better option.

  26. Geoff

So now he’s not the champion of youth anymore, perhaps he’ll get fed up and go back to what he did when he was successful, like buying players.

  27. Stu

Doesnt Schwarzer have the Asian cup to play in January? Chances are he will get injured if he is joining us…especially if he signs before the comp.

  28. Franchise

hi guys new revelation sweeping the blogosphere!!!!

Jaguar has been found out to be the same person as Queen of Surburbia

You heard it here first :D

  29. choy

Alright.. so its now or never for Al…

Lol franchise that would be epic!

Mayank, there were options, Wenger just didn’t trust them!

  30. Young Guns Rule

A4E is pre evo really back to its best, I have been so annoyed by its lack of progress recently, Fifa really knocked it into touch (i have always been a pro man until last 2 years)

I have been praying for Pro evo to take back what it always had!

  31. arsenal4ever

yeah Young Guns Rule me, too. Switched to FIFA a bit last year cause their passing system was great but yes it is the best ever IMO. And I played PES 5 and 6!!!!

  32. Young Guns Rule

5 was immense, best Pro Evo ever, 2 player on same team on line was quality! I do love scoring screamers with RVP on Fifa though!

  33. arsenal4ever

Young Guns Rule if you dont like it you are not a football fan :-) . But take your time you need to adapt to it. It is a complete new controlling. 360 degree finally works brillant. You can dance with Messi and Iniesta, unbelievable. And passes to split defences arent there yet in any football game. Defence line works brillant and I am often in offside positions cause they work brillant together.

  34. MatthewT

Could our injury problems be the result of putting to much phsyical stress on our players to young instead of easing them into first team football ?

  35. A

Depends on the nature of the player MatthewT, would expect inconsistency and maybe tiredness towards the end of the season, which could result in muscle injuries if they’re played when fatigued, so not every game all season except for in exceptional circumstances, Cesc for example

  36. MatthewT

Van Persie played 41 games in the 2004/05 season and he would have been around 20.

Walcott played 39 games in the 2007/08 season at around 18/19 years old.

Denilson played 51 games in the 2008/09 season, he would have been 19/20.

    To me this seems excessive.

  37. A

VP started 18 games at the age of 21 going on 22 in 04/05, he was very much eased in when he was young, at almost any other club he would’ve been a regular and would’ve played many more games at that age, as is the norm.

Theo played a fair bit early, but his injuries were hereditary, shoulder problems which are now sorted.

Denilson played a fair bit at a young age though, I could see some logic there in thinking about a connection between the number of games he played and his injury, although age isn’t necessarily relevant.

  38. dennisdamenace

Hello again you fuckers…….still making hard work for ourselves eh, swimming against the tide! Fuck that shit, try drinking six Duvels in two hours Mutha Fukasssssssssssssssss………

  39. Jimmy_Fingers

Big, big fan of Vela, convinced we’re yet to see the best of him. Impressed in a Mexican shirt this world cup, would like to see him get a decent run in the side

  40. Geoff

I’m good thanks, I like to sneak on here when it’s quiet, so I can be bigoted and no fucker can argue.

I fucking hate Bob Crow, fat ill educated blackmailing cunt.

  41. dennisdamenace

Geoff – I downloaded the latest ‘Have I Got News For You’ on the BBC iPlayer, to play out here in Belgium.

So, i settled down to watch it last night, and that fat cunt was on it, so i deleted it, i can’t bring myself to even look at the smug, no talent, bo fucking mark……..

  42. A

So now the Metro is claiming that Theo is hoping to be fit for Braga. Press conference tomorrow so we’re gonna have to wait until then I guess to hear anything actually official, annoying

  43. dennisdamenace

Franny! When are you next around proper like?

Although it goes against my better judgement, i’d like to buy you a beer and give you £100!!

  44. A

ddm if there’s an idiot on Have I got News for You why would you not watch it?! He’d get taken to pieces, watching Kilroy Silk on there was hilarious

  45. dennisdamenace

I can’t bare to even watch the prick, the cunt has no redeeming features, and his mere presence fucks me off.

  46. Geoff

It would be sad if he slipped on a piece of gob that’s all over his stinking platforms and goes under a train and dies horribly because the train got derailed going over his fat as fuck blimp of a body.

  47. dennisdamenace

Who’s the bigger cunt, him, or the cunts who thought it would be a good idea to have him on the program??

He sits there laughing and joking while 100′s of thousands struggle to get to their jobs, some couldn’t, like my missus, who lost a days pay because of it.

All to say a few feckless cunts jobs that sit around all day doing fuck all, drawing a salary, but doing nothing. The whole world is struggling financially, yet this cunt and his fascist cronies have the right to strike to save meaningless jobs…….

  48. DaleDaGooner

    Morning Grovers!
It feel so good to be back!!! OOooooh…cause the spot light aint nothing without me ….

Seriously, Vela can be our very own Pedro (not you Pedro) or like someone said, our own “The Duck” He should step in for Walcott, but we all know after Eboue’s head shake, he has been benched, I expect him to start. Wenger shouts on about the size of our squad and the youngsters making up the rank, but he won’t start JET no matter how hot he is right now. JET needs to get similar starting like Ramsey did last season. Lets not even talk about Vela. I see a problem in January. Wellington Silva has been promised a first team chance, and we all know he is a striker cum winger, just like Vela, Arshavin, Walcott and all are midgets under 5’10″. We have very few towers up front. RvP, Bendtner and MC29, 2 being crocks for the better part of this season.

For the Bolton game, I expect Ebway or Rosicky starting on the right with usual Cesc+Song+Diaby. I think we will try Squillaci+Vermealen in the center back.

  49. Maqitlarge

Not to mention the blitz survivors who couldn’t get to their memorial service.

That wanker lives neaer me in Woodford. I see him once in a while. He could be John Terry’s dad he’s so chavvy. I don’t know why the media in this country gives him a voice!

  50. Maqitlarge

Not when he’s strutting arond with his pitball in Woodford he’s not DDM

That cunt never stopped me getting to work thuogh, even if I had to walk from Liverpool Street to Warren Street. Would do that every day if it meant he had no more influence.
I’m dreading what he’s cooking up for the Olympics though. He’ll try to embarass the country on an international stage.

  51. Maqitlarge

I’m sure he’s woodford AT. Seen him numerous times, once checking out my wife. He fucking wishes! haha.

Do you share the same manor AT?
