Arshavin admits he hasn’t scored a spectacular goal in years, but he is more effective.

by & filed under Uncategorized.

This is something that we always seem to do to our players, we sign them because they score wonderful goals and have tricks and flicks in abundance, then we make them pass the ball to death.

Remember the youtube clips of Nasri? He looked like a young George Best, then he joined us and although a nice player, he didn’t look like the Nasri in the youtube clips, now I always put that down to the different leagues, but after the Arshavin comments, I’m thinking maybe it’s the Arsenal style, and if so, why do we buy them in the first place?

I remember watching a young Martin Hayes make his debut under George Graham, 23 I think, we all said, cor who’s that winger, he’s good and what a shot, the bloke next to me said, ‘don’t worry son, George will beat that out of him’

Ha, ha, I say the same thing to Pedro if someone has a first time shot, remember Theo, he was scoring for fun at Southampton at 15, he joined us and then forgot where the goal is, yes I realise how tough our league is, but it now looks as though Theo has remembered what he used to do and the shots are coming back, it also looks like Nasri is doing what he did at Marseille again, so on that basis I hope that Andre has been watching, take on the shot more often Andre and it will happen.

The four at Liverpool were all pretty much run at hit, first time stuff, don’t think about it.

Chamakh has said how intense he finds training, the Premier league and English football, he said they play at 100mph and the ball never goes out of play, if it’s that hard, then why don’t England dominate football?

Talking of England, Gooner Defoe scored a hatrick and we beat Bulgaria 4 zip, good news for England, but I think that the FA and Umbro have got a massive cheek changing their kit again, especially after the world cup fiasco, they should give it away, not rip the fans off again, shame on you Brooking you greedy sod.

I know it’s boring without football, maybe it’s time to take a month off over Christmas and bung all the internationals in that period, if you are good enough you’ll play, if you’re not bothered you won’t, who cares anyway, these stupid little breaks are screwing up club football and if you’re like me, that’s the important one.

Have a great day Grovers, next weekend football’s coming home!

Arshavin’s problem is that he is only half fit. If and when he gets fit , he can have all Prem defences quaking. A terrible underachiever so far.

Arshavin can be among the top 3/5 players in the world if he gets up to Prem level fitness.
Cmon you fat sod , wake up.

  2. Arindam@KOL

cmon Jaguar, it isnt even funny.

Blame Wenger for the keeping corundrum , for our defensive shambles.

But for a fat Russian ? Cmon.

  3. Arindam@KOL

    Arshavin is unfit. FACT.
He has been unfit 90 % of the time he has been here. He cant fucking stay on the pitch for 90 minutes – and that’s Wenger’s fault. Yeah right.

If Arshavin is really a winner , he should work his socks off and get fit for the Prem.

  4. swinner

continuously effective is better than sporadically spectacular. Of course both are better than the clowns and denilson.

  5. pantsR2long

Jag is on fire as usual ;)

Whats the news on the players away on international duty, any injury concerns all did all of them make it through unscathed?

  6. DB10

Jaguar do you ever change tune? U sound like a broken record mate. Just write your name and don’t be bothered about the rest of the stuff , cuz we pretty much can figure out what you are going to write, to the last word!!!

  7. Arindam@KOL

Cmon Jag , the season has only just begun. Time to get behind the team. AW bashing can wait until May atleast.

    Ffs.

  8. Jaguar reloaded

That was a cracker DB10.It was Rosicky’s first competitive match, but Wenger’s stupid training methods curbed his shooting skills

  9. pantsR2long

DB10- I miss seeing our players score those sought of goals. Just watched Rosicky’s goal against USA at 2006 world cup on youtube, that was a scorcher as well.

  10. temagooner

no gk, usual injuries, no plan B, it will be a miracle if we win anything this year. Was hoping this season we would have strengthened, based on previous experiences, but all broken promises from the club. Lost interest in football, at least for now.

  11. DB10

On the topic of Rosicky, has anybody realized that he is the ONLY player, apart from the Vermenator, who loves to tackle? unlike our other midfielders, he does not follow the opposing player till he is in our penalty box. Once he realizes the opposition is going to run the ball beyond him, he slides down and, he doesn’t miss a tackle as well. I like that about him.

  12. Rocka

    Pass the ball to death?

I don’t think Nasri or Walcott or Arshavin would be better players elsewhere, Arsenal’s style of play is set up exactly for these types of players.

Goalscoring has never been Arsenal’s problem, it is always defensive. Not replacing Almunia (and Fabianski) was just stupid.

  13. Afghan Gooner

tbh, with the introduction of chamakh ,i think wenger is working on giving our way of playing another dimension. And imo ,Theo’s been told to shoot as soon as he’s anywhere near the box …we all witnessed wat was the outcome of it.SO hopefully Arshavin will also take a leaf out of Theo’s book and start shooting often rather than trying to beat the whole opposition with this dribbling until he crosses the goal line.
And Nasri too has begun to score more often ,coz he has realised that he has a point to prove (after he got dropped out of Les Bleus WC squad). And with RVP,Vela,Arshavin,Chamakh & Bendtner , i dont think we will be short on goals this season, from our frwrds.
Hopefully our defense will not make those silly mistakes which they did last season (especially the goalkeeper).Which cost us the title.coz we were so close to grabbing the title last season.
    Keep the faith ,gooners !

  14. Goonerman

Went to Wemberlee last night; I thought Walcott had a fair game but he must be so frustrated. What shit service; he never seemed to get a pass from Gerrard and Dawson. What complete wankers; obvious paases to him were never made.

  15. Goonerman

Pedro – can you please introduce a facility to place Jaguar on an ‘Ignore List’. This man is ruining the board with his abuse.

  16. dave.T

drop in to see what was happening in Le grove. Nice to see Jag is still spouting his recursive loop of abuse and drivel. As a therapist I am beining to wonder if it is a form of obsessive behaviour and one we should all help him change by ignoring him. I think maybe he finds the responces he gets stimulating and this then encourages further outbursts. So today in the interests of Jgs mental health could we all try to ignore any posts he makes that contain abusive or derogatory remarks. Oh nice post Geoff I think there may be something in the idea of players being trained out of thier individualistic instincs and trained into a more team pattern ethos.

  17. dave.T

I have been thinking about the Ashravin and Nasri issue. Wenger does I think have a belief that the collective (team) is greater than the individual. Its one reason he buys players who would fit rather than players who may be brilliant but would not maybe fit is as well. I dont think he does not like individual brilliance but only if it enhances the collective. For example he loved Henry’s brilliance but stopped loving it when it became less about the team and more about him. The same could be said in a lesser way about bently. he had talent but could not harness to the team ethic.
Ashravin the maveric may well have been a player to turn a game. In wengers eyes however this was an occassion and the gaps the maveric left while waiting for the brilliance were to big. hence the training the maveric to be more team and less individualistic. I guess the issue boils down to does individual brilliance win games enough vs does less individual but more team ethos win games. Im not sure but I liked the thoughhts Geoffs blog constructed.

  18. Pedro

Goonerman, he’s had enough warnings. Anymore and it’s a ban. I can’t be assed to police his comments anymore, he’s like a fucking child.

  19. Lurch LeRouge

    Howdy grovers.

Yup GM Theo got no service last night then on comes Johnston and crossfield balls start lobbing in and voilà. The Mexican waves were the most entertaining thing last night, the match was a total yawn event.

  20. Gbenga

I love everything about Arsenal aside “fans” like JAG. You love seeing players scoring scorchers but never love Denilson or Diaby scoring. But they do that for the team. If u want to know why Rosicky scored such goals 4 country and Dortmund, its because he was playing off the strikers.

  21. DeiseGooner

    Flair Vs Efficiency

While its nice to see the flair even when it doesnt come off its far more important to have the efficiency.

Be mre efficient, dominate the game, put it to bed then bring out the flair.

In tight games the ability to do the sublime can win you game. Players like AA23 never really lose that maverick flair just learn to use it more efficiently.

  22. Lurch LeRouge

Flair over efficiency for me. Gets the atmosphere going… Get a result from intimidation and crowd pressure. Tipi tapi makes for a silent crowd.

  23. incesc

thats pretty sweet, I havent been to the new wembley yet

whats it like compared to the grove?

i do wonder if the game had been in an actual world cup whether we would have drawn with bulgaria 0-0…

  24. Socrates

Morning everyone, all six of you… where is everyone? these international games really intrude on the more important stuff of club football…nothing to talk about

  25. Lurch LeRouge

Prefer the grove hands down. The sweeping lines of the stadium are loads nicer. The no beer bollixks stresses to much.

Still managed a few ‘stand up if hate tottenham’s ‘ though so that made up for the dull display. :)

  26. Socrates

Poor service for Theo last night, some of the players might have been listening to Hansen, Theo was starved of the ball blantatly..

  27. Mayank

The German teams are a good example of efficiency trumping flair.
Our style has more flair than the players individually.

We take backheels for granted Old trafford goes crazy over even the most obvious ones.

  28. Socrates

Maybe we should sign a narcissist like C Ronaldo, all the other players around would have to take shots just to keep up with the selfish prick… he even pats himself on the back for an assist…how self loving can you get!!!

  29. TOM TOM

Viera had a really powerfull shot but we didnt see it to often.I was expecting great things from Rosicky after that world cup but it seems his shooting is shit,he balloons the ball over the bar so many times

  30. pantsR2long

Van persie has shown in the past that he’s got a good shot in him but even he seems afraid to shoot from outside the box.

  31. DeiseGooner

Didnt we score most goals from outside the box last season? Its not always on when 9 opposition players are in there in front of you.

  32. ritesh

we remove the passion out of good footballers I think.

But we also make them more adept technically…more football educated. They say the more you learn, the less passion you have.

Thats why stupid players have passion ;-) It would be good to buy some stupid players…example Evra ;-)

  33. Lurch LeRouge

Yeah total wankers. Instead you’ve got kids lined up in the bogs watching guys in their droves leaving the stalls eyes bulging and rubbing their snitches after hoovering gangstar lines, where’s the sense in that?

  34. ritesh

Wilshere is an interesting breed. He is educated but can be stupid.

Maybe the future of our midfiled as he works his socks off and finishes his matches dead. He can tackle a bit too…Ask Samba!!!

  35. Young Guns Rule

    Lurch,

I missed you last night big man, I popped in the sports bar.

How shit was Glen ‘pass the ball sideways’ Johnson last night. Theo gets a slating again but not once did anyone put the ball in behind for him to run onto.

Fucking disgrace, i hate football pundits they are mostly cunts who actually know less than they think about the game.

Colleymore the cunt was saying we are coaching him wrong, sorry stan maybe we should teach him to hit women would that be better for you!

  36. Goonerpower

Stan collyflour is a total cock nosed ferret feeling women beating love cheating wanker. What does he know…………shit lips. Aaaah feel better now.

  37. Lurch LeRouge

    Hey YGR.

Sorry bud, my mate got caught up leaving work in moorgate so we arrived with 45 min to KO and had go to the offy to get 4 tins in pronto.

Yeah GJ was shit, at least 4 turnovers and continual crab passing, didn’t play Theo in all night. AJ had a good cameo, Milner looked ok in the second half.

Had to cheer when Dawson got crocked lol ;)

  38. Thierry Henry is god

    Ritesh

Just ignore them, the Spanish media are on a crusade to get Cesc unsettled and back to Spain.

Anything that Cesc says will inevitably be quoted and taken completely out of context to make it look like he is unhappy.

  39. Thierry Henry is god

Oh, and by the way.. I’m walking around worrying about our players…

Lets hope that noone gets injured!!

  40. Gunnernet

Good day grovers. Did anyone know why Jack didn’t involve last night with u-21? Jack’s latest action play a role? Any injuries from last night action?

  41. arsenal4ever

so a 17 year old should solve our GK crisis? I hope Wenger gets grilled on Q & A. It is disgraceful you are acting, Wenker. Not the questions you will need to ask.

  42. Young Guns Rule

yeah i had a wry smile and when defoe hobbled off, lol. I thought gerrards passing was amazing, he is such a great player when he plays through the middle

  43. Lurch LeRouge

nothing worse though than having to stand up and clap a tottenham player off the pitch though, kinda soured it for me. Not a fan of gerard personally.

  44. Lurch LeRouge

don’t blame you, but he did score 3 goals for queen and country…

so a modicum of respect was due, im a fairly stout nationalist – not quite ultra, but you get my drift. :)

  45. Stu

The england kit just looked like a plain white tshirt to me.

What was Jag saying this morning that caused an uproar and got his comments binned? Same as usual or something new?

  46. Stu

I dont know how anyone could applaud Defoe regardless of how many he scores for england. You’re an arsenal fan first and so should hate him no matter what.

I mean, celebrate the england goal all you want but dont give credit to the scum.

  47. sixx pac

Every time I close my eyes,I see my name in shiny lights.,a different city every night.I swear, the world better prepare for when I’m a billionaire…:-)

  48. wattsy65

    Hi All

Thought Theo was OK last night, improving still, would be better if the rest of the team did not ignore him all the time, they must hate him cos he talks properly, and is not shagging everything in sight, unlike Jack who seems to be taking to the night life very well.

Gerard / Defoe / Rooney all top notch, but against woeful opposition.

Hope they all return fit and well, except VP who went all the way to Holland so the dutch FA could tell us he would be out for a few weeks, which is not news to us at all.

Looking forward to the Bolton game, real blood and guts stuff.

  49. incesc

if they are going to have international week at least keep the transfer window open so we have something to talk/moan about.

theres more qualifiers in a month as well.

  50. samir masri

    incesc

    is’nt the transfer window over?

but yeah the international break is really is a killer.cos normally at this time we all watch or see our team playing.

  51. Stu

I’ve been wondering lately about the fixture list of the premiership. We start way earlier than Serie A, the Bundesliga and la Liga but they all take a winter break (i think) and never have a problem with fixture build up. In the prem there is always games in hand, postponements because of cup matches etc. Its bullshit!

The FA should really sort the prems fixtures out.

  52. Stu

Samir, i think Incesc meant that if there are going to be boring internationals at this time of the season they should leave the transfer window open to at least keep us semi entertained and have something to talk about.

  53. Mayank

Stu it could be because of the Carling cup, that’s an extra competition. Without the CC we could move the FA cup midweek except for the Wembley matches.

  54. HendonGooner

    Re: Arshavin’s fitness….

Maybe the little Russkie should stick to more salads and keep away from the pies….

    ; – )

  55. Mayank

I think we could Incesc, Don Vito with the right protien supplements could be very physically dominating. He’s not technically as proficient as Fabi but at least he can handle a bit of pressure.

  56. Mayank

Arsh’s weight does prevent him from being easily kicked around. Messi’s a bit of a freak, normally players that size aren’t that fit as well as that strong.

  57. samir masri

    stu

I think I alredy knew what incesc meant.cos me and incesc we hardly to talk to each other.but we do understand each other.and the last we spoke was probably a month ago.

  58. Stu

WHy not scrap the CC so. We never take it seriously anyway. Its a pointless comp and the spaces it frees up could make the fixture list a lot better.

  59. Mayank

Lurch you seem to want us to spend a Saturday evening depressed and silently sobbing.
    Very well…

Think I’ll watch Fever Pitch instead though.

  60. Stu

Did Maldini always play left back or did he switch between CB and LB? Cafu Nesta Costacurta Maldini?
They had another CB whos name i cant think of.

  61. Lurch LeRouge

    Lol mayank.

Play it real slow. frame by frame. Kinda like an art house Hitchcockian bizo. Should get you through till Monday before depression kicks in.

What we need a classic AKB vs DOOM slugfest.

  62. Zap

This England team shouldave gone to the world cup:

    Hart
    Johnson Dawson Terry Gibbs
    Walcott Barry Gerrard A.Johnson
    Defoe Rooney

Without self centred c*nts like cole in the team, i think the majority of these players really know what it means to play for england.
