Almunia’s out for a while so Fabianski takes over, who will he play?

September 30, 2010

Well tomorrow the Ryder Cup begins and hopefully we’ll trash the USA, so it promises to be a hectic weekend, the singles on Sunday clash horribly with the chav game so I will have two TV’s on the go, and maybe I’ll watch the Grand Prix on my laptop.

We know that Fabianski is in goal, let’s hope he plays as well two games running, he’ll need too that’s for sure, they won’t be as easy as Partizan Belgrade were though.

Let take a look at our options and see who we should play as our first eleven.

Fabianski

Sagna Squillaci Koscielny Gibbs

Wilshere Cesc Nasri

Rosicky Chamakh Arshavin

I’m not picking Denilson, Clichy, Song or Diaby, we can’t out muscle the chavs, that much we should have learned by now, we can outplay them though, so that’s why I would field a team of proper footballers.

Gibbs gets the nod over Clichy on form, that my friends is how the team should be picked, on who’s performing, Song and Diaby haven’t been, Denilson has put in a couple of good shifts, but Wilshere, Nasri and Cesc are our best, most mobile and most deadly combination and they are our best chance of beating the chavs.

Up front we have less options but Rosicky is looking good and Arshavin is starting to click again, but please leave the penalties to the midfield!

Chamakh picks himself and he owes the chavs from last season, he doesn’t need motivating. If we lose this game we will start to separate from the pack, whilst it’s not must win, it is must not lose, but with this team I believe we can win.

Jack, Samir or Cesc can all play the DM role, all are tenacious tacklers and all three have vision, I would love to see them let loose on an ageing chavs side, love it.

Have a great day grovers, think about your favourite combo, no choice with the keeper though, still if the Arsenal team all back him, he must have something, so come on Lukas, show us some consistency.

Arsenal cruise, Partizan bruise and Fabianski at last has a decent game

September 29, 2010

We went to a tough country to play football, the stadium had a power cut because that’s what happens in these places, I expect it was done on purpose, however after an early predictable onslaught we soon settled into our stride, Jack and Arshavin combined sublimely to get our first, top drawer back heel from our little maestro and a great finish from Arshavin. One nil to the Arsenal.

Arshavin was unlucky not to claim a second shortly after but an overhead scissor type kick from their defender put paid to that so it remained one nil, until dopey handballed it for no reason from a 20 yard pass going nowhere, the dimwitted look on his face said it all, 1-1.

The second half started well and when Chamakh was brought down and the player was sent off, there was only ever going to be one winner, up steps the Russian hit man and dribbles it straight down the middle into the keepers grateful feet, still 1-1!

Soon after after two great headers from Chamakh we are 2-1 up. Not wishing to miss out on the aerial stuff, up pops Squillaci to make the score 3-1, so much for the stupid Belgrade banner that said in English that we were going to be steam rollered!

Gibbs took down their forward to give them another penalty but this time Fabianski went the right way. Shortly after that he pulled of a fabulous save, one of his trademark acrobatic ones that had Wenger gloating that ‘that was the Lukas I see every day in training’ Predictable Arsene, predictable.

Yes Fabianski had a good game, but that should be the norm, whatever he did last night, he should remember and try that in his next game, which I’m guessing will be Chelsea on Sunday.

A good all round performance from the team, after the shambles of Saturday it was heartening to see, I won’t do any individual assessment of the players save to say they all deserved an 8, well apart from two of them, I won’t say what two but one should get a 6 as he at least tried, the other a 3 because his kit looked good.

If you couldn’t see the two I’m talking about you couldn’t have been watching.

Fabianski had a good game so credit to him, but don’t forget, even a blind Squirrel occassionally gets an acorn, put a decent run together and maybe I’ll change my mind, we’ll see, but Arsene, if I were you I would save the ‘I told you so grin’ until after the next game.

To sum up, well done the Arsenal, great game, great play and Jack, you just keep getting better, keep it up son, we’ll soon have Theo back, Bendtner back, Robin back and Cesc back, then think what we could achieve! I’m licking my lips in anticipation.

Have a great day Grovers, I know I will.

For Fabianski, it is another big chance – but you want a goalkeeper or any player to grab the chance when you get it

September 28, 2010

That’s what Arsene Wenger said about our keeper yesterday so Fabianski will play tonight, funny, he said the same thing before the Spurs game, the one where Fabianski screwed up with the one shot he had to deal with.

I wish I was an Arsenal keeper, doesn’t matter how many times you screw up, or how bad you are, you still get paid, and you still get played, unless of course, your are Chezzer, still at least he gets to sit on the bench tonight.

The problem is, we all know Fabianski will eventually have a good game, then the manager will say, ‘see, I told you so’ and he’ll be our new number one for another season.

Ok onto tonight, a tough game against hard opposition, I understand Lansbury will step in for the injured Diaby, I would love to see his record, he just comes back from injury, and then he’s injured again, it’s time to get rid of him, his record is beyond a joke. Good luck Henri, I hope you impress tonight. Gibbs is back in the squad but it may be Clichy gets the nod, maybe Gibbs will get put out wide left, I won’t be upset with that, but I hope he plays one of the youngsters, like JET or Afobe, if for nothing else other than to put his toe up the arses of others.

I would also prefer to see Denilson over Song, but not both of them and if he plays Eboue, then play him at right back and not on the wing. Though having seen Song as the Arsenal player being interviewed in Serbia, it’s obvious who’s going to be playing.

We need to go back to our slick pass and move game tonight, Belgrade will be tough, but no tougher than the spuds were last week, this team are no West Brom!!! Play around them and jump the tackles.

Win this one and we’ll gain some confidence for the big one on Sunday. I may go for something different tonight, what do you think of this team.

Fabianski (cos he said, not my choice)

Eboue Squillaci Koscielny Gibbs

Wilshere Nasri Lansbury/Eastmond/Denilson but I’ll have money it’s Song

Rosicky JET Afobe

It will be interesting, but he won’t play that team, he may however pick from that team and I would be happy if that was the squad and Chezzer came on at half time.

Either way I’ll be cheering the boys on, either way I’ll be screaming my heart out whoever he picks, have a great day Grovers, but hopefully a better night!

Ok sulk over, time to get back behind the team, but what team? Here’s my idea…

September 27, 2010

Well it didn’t take long for Manuel Almunia to lose a game for us, we all knew it and we all called it, like last season we were two or three players away from perfection, this season we were two away, last season we did nothing when we could have and this season we have no choice, we are stuck with what we have until the window, which is 3 months away and by then it could be too late.

Yes Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea lost, but both the mancs did better and we lost ground. It wasn’t the defeat, it was the manner of the defeat, knowing the chavs had lost should have spurred us on, but it didn’t.

We need to change this team around and we need to do it in time for the European game this Tuesday. Time to bin the two worst keepers in our history, yes boss, they are both hopeless, the whole stadium say it, the whole world saw it, and if you can’t, then something is wrong with you. We can’t buy a keeper now, it’s too late. So bring on Chezzer, I would sooner see him screw up, than continue watching the other two get paid masses for doing what they do all the time, Screw up.

Chezzer has a big mouth, let’s see if he can back it up, we can’t do worse, if he can’t, then get the cheque book out in January, continuing with these two clowns you have will end up with us losing our top four status. And you won’t like that, that will involve your bonus.

Time to change the back line, Sagna and Clichy aren’t doing it consistantly enough for me, let Gibbs and someone like Eboue or Nordtveit or whoever our right back cover is, play.

No choice in the middle. but midfield has to change, Diaby and Song are just not capable at this level, time to make Wilshere and Nasri the starters and Cesc when fit, so who goes in at DM? Well in the abscence of someone world class, I would give Denilson one last chance. If not then promote Eastmond.

Up front it has to be Chamakh, Arshavin and Rosicky, with no Robin or Theo. Time to start introducing JET and Afobe, time to start showing these players Saturday was unacceptable at this club.

A final word for Arsene, when you told the world that you got Chamakh for free and said people were asking why you didn’t spend £20mil the year before on him. Well the year before you could have got him for €7.5 and with him we may have won the league, also because you got him for nothing his wages would have been considerably more, he probably got a signing on fee and the difference between getting him last season and this was probably nothing, so please, tell it as it is, not how you want yourself portrayed.

Big week this week, to lose so tamely this early was a disgrace, time to ring the changes Arsene, time to get rid of your crap keepers and time to let the team know this cannot happen ever, ever again.

Have a great day grovers, maybe this time we’ll make some decisions we’ve all been waiting for, tomorrow I’ll be positive!

Howlmunia puts £56million profit into perspective. Ratings and match report

September 26, 2010

You can patch up the defence, you can brag about millions in the bank, but top class football always comes down to the same thing.

Top players.

We’ve known for the best part of 2  years that Almunia isn’t top class. Jens Lehmann said this in December 2007.

‘I am a football player every day and don’t like watching if someone is playing who has not got my class. And if nothing is changing, I grow angry’

Almunia doesn’t have half the class of Lehmann and today demonstrated why he isn’t good enough to sport the number 1 jersey of Arsenal. His first calamity was when he came bounding out of his area and smashed the forward over. He saved the penalty, but that wasn’t the point. The point was he gave away the penalty in the first place!

His second mistake came when he dropped his knee a full yard and half away from the boy and allowed the shot to slip into his inside post.

His third error arrived when once again he launched out of his area, realised he wasn’t making it unless he clattered the player, tried to make his way back into the area and allowed WBA to pass into the net. Worst thing, it was one of our English youth team players, Jerome Thomas.

That my friends is the fault of a manager who believes in the P&L over the Premier League, that for me is negligent. As I’ve said in previous match reports, Almunia isn’t good enough, as fans we over praise him when he does the basics right like he’s doing us a favour… and we support him. Today, the home crowd jeered him. Is that right? Probably not. Do I sympathise? Totally. We shouldn’t be watching a player who has never proved anything dropping clanger after clanger in the Premiership.

That was a message to Wenger. We don’t care about record profits. Spend £20million on a keeper and we still have £36million profit. So Where is our keeper? Even if we’d signed who we were after, why is Schwarzer our number one target? We’re better than that…

We were told by Wenger he has cured the defensive issues, we shipped 3 goals to a very average team, Arsene, you’ve cured nothing.

On the performance, well, it was flat, it contained very little urgency and if anything, it was complacent. The team selection was odd. Jack Wilshere had just played the game of his life and he was dropped, Eboue slipped in hopelessly in midfield and Song came back from suspension and performed like crap, again.

Chamakh had a very average game,  his control was off and he barely had a shot. His work rate was high as always, but nothing else clicked. In fact, it’s difficult to praise anyone other than Nasri who performed extremely well with a driving performace.

The defensive mistakes were school boy. Watching Eboue get mugged by a West Brom player was pitiful viewing. Watching our team of technicians make bad pass after bad pass was painful.

Arsenal are like the London Philharmonic Orchestra. When everyone turns up to to work sober and in the mood, no one can match the music we make on the pitch. However, if the triangle player turns up in his pink boots after a night out on the orange juice, his mistimed chimes can ruin the whole sound and put others in the group off. We’re a finely tuned machine that can’t work if a few of the cogs are broken. Chelsea, despite losing to City are like the Libertines or the Clash. A string could break, the lead guitarist could fall off the stage, the drummer could snap a stick… but somehow, you still wouldn’t notice if you were listening.

Don’t forget the chavs lost to a highly rated City, both lost in the Carling Cup, so don’t blame the Carling cup on our performance, it didn’t stop City winning, and don’t forget WBA got stuffed six nil by the chavs, and we have to play them next, oh boy, God forbid.

Player Ratings by Geoff

Manuel Almunia 1

Bacary Sagna 3

Sebastien Squillaci 3

Laurent Koscielny 3

Gael Clichy 3

Emmanuel Eboue 3

Andrey Arshavin 6

Samir Nasri 10

Abou Diaby 3

Alex Song 3

Marouane Chamakh 5

Tomas Rosicky 6

Carlos Vela 3

Jack Wilshere 6

I gave Nasri a 10 because he played 120 minutes in midweek, hit the bar and scored 2 goals, I said before playing Song weakens our team, playing him with Eboue and Diaby is taking the mick, it’s a disaster.

I’m sorry if I upset anyone with Almunia’s 1, I know I was giving him too much but I couldn’t bring myself to give an Arsenal player a zero. The manager refuses to blame him, are you blind Arsene? Time to get rid of our two shocking keepers, time to promote Chezzer and Mannone, I don’t care how great our number 1 and 2 perform in training, on matchdays, they are shite, simple.

Today I’m marking the manager, he spent all week telling the press how great he is, he forgot to manage his team though, so I’ll give him a 1, same as Almunia, get over yourself Arsene, you are our manager, get back to managing.

Have a great day grovers, you work out how to, I can’t!

Cesc should be back for the big one \ Don’t be complacent with WBA

September 25, 2010

Good morning to you all! I’m writing my last post for a week before I head out to Ibiza on scouting mission of a non-footballing nature. Geoff will be taking on match reporting duties for the first time this season tomorrow, make sure he does the player ratings!

First up, we’ve got a logo to back our campaign to kick, kicking out of football (Geoff billed me £15k for it).

If you run a blog, get the logo on your site and write a story about brutality and what you think, we’ll start revolution! Maybe someone could put a youtube montage of horror tackles together and put the campaign logo at the end? E-mail in if you’re good at that stuff!

So, the team news is good. Diaby, Rosicky and Eboue are all in today’s squad.

The other good news I heard is that the coaching staff are expecting Cesc to be available for the Chelsea game. He’s been stretching out in the gym and he should start training next week. That’s bloody great news. I’d like to see if we’re good enough this year without the excuse of injuries. If we’ve got Cesc in the team, Diaby and Song in the midfield, we should be able to compete. Apparently, if all goes to plan, we should have a full squad to select from after the next international break. Theo, Bends and Rambo are all back running…

I don’t think the news is good on the Vermaelen front. He broke down in training last week and needs to rest apparently. He’ll be a big loss against the Chav’s if he doesn’t recover, but the flip side of that is that at least Koscielny and Squillaci have had the chance to continue their mean partnership.

It was good to read that Wenger has said Chezzer will get his chance. I don’t suppose he could dismiss the Pole’s opinion easily… Fabianski’s career is clearly in tatters at Arsenal and I don’t hold out too much hope for Mannone coming good any time soon. Chezzer looks the part, he talks the talk… I just hope he doesn’t get thrown in at the deepend too soon.

I would dearly love to talk about our terrific financial results, but I find it all incredibly boring. It’s brilliant that we’re well run, I’m glad we’ve paid back all our expensive debt, I’m a little disappointed that we’re bragging about £56million profit (with £127mill in the bank)… yet we couldn’t stump up for a proper goalkeeper. I’d prefer it if we were talking about £36million profit with a world class performer between the sticks. Talk of the potential war chest doesn’t get me excited either, what would Wenger do with £60million that he didn’t do with £30million?

‘We make a profit because we don’t spend – it’s as simple as that. What is unbelievable is that people reproach me for making a profit but no-one says a word about people who lose money.’

That’s terrific Arsene, but you’re paid to win trophies and by the way, plenty of column inches are devoted to slating the clubs that spend wildly beyond their means. Wenger loves using extremes. He is an extremist, just in the other direction. No one asks him to spend us into oblivion, we just want more focus on developing the team instead of the tunnel vision we have for increasing our bulging cash surplus that doesn’t benefit the fans in any way.

It’s nice of Wenger not to mention the huge part the fans play in giving Arsenal their profits. No one else in the world pays what we do.

Wenger complained that people criticised him for not buying Chamakh for £20million. Sorry, that wasn’t the criticism. The problem people had is that he needed a striker, he failed to sign Chamakh, there was no plan B and ultimately that cost us points.

He also spoke of developing talent and how it wouldn’t happen if he bought players. Again, what a load of rubbish. Barca spend heavily, yet their team is full of young talent. Jack Wilshere is vying for position with loads of top creative players at our club, he’s succeeding because he’s an amazing talent.

That’s the way it should be. The best players force their way into contention. We shouldn’t be sticking them in at 19 if they’re not good enough. We shouldn’t then brag that we were right after 3 years when they do eventually blossom, especially if the trophy cabinet is empty. All you’ve proven is that if you give anyone with a bit of talent 100 games, the best facilities and the best coaches… chances are, they’ll at least become proficient at the game.

Couldn’t it be argued that Chamakh is killing Bendtner or Carlos ‘Fowler’ Vela?

Wenger speaks of this list he can provide of players who have gone on to make careers elsewhere. Last time I checked, that didn’t matter to me or any other Gooner. We’re not a University. I don’t care that our failed youth goes onto make huge amounts of money else where because at the end of the day, life isn’t over if they fail at football…  they just become like the rest of us and that’s not too bad thank you very much.

The ego of Wenger really does irk me sometimes… he’s constantly trying to manipulate fan aspiration and so many lap it up. Sadly there isn’t a trophy for creating the most careers, for being the king of profit or for polishing a turd over 3 very painful years.

Anyway my major fear is that we’re going to be ripe for a LBO (leverage buy out), then as fans, we’ll be back to square one, the current board will be able to retire even richer than they already are, then we’ll be skint like United and Liverpool. I’d like to think there’s a way around that happening, sadly, there’s nothing that can be done, once a billionaire owns a club he can do as he pleases.

I heard a certain American family has lumped all their other businesses debt on a major club in the UK, now they’re looking for a buyer for a whopping £1.2billion.

I’d hate for Arsenal to have to go through a despicable ordeal like that.

Still, we won’t mull over that today…  today is for football and wondering how Honda can justify £427 on a service?

WBA come to town today off the back of a terrific win against Manchester City (Did you hear Mancini concede the title already?). I don’t think we have too much to worry about, we’re in great form, we’re defending well and we have far too much quality to let the midlanders bother us.

Footballistically, Arsenal need to nick two early goals so I don’t have to suffer palpitations of the heart in the last ten minutes. We need to be patient, play with discipline and go for the kill with the goals. We’re 10 off Chelsea on that front. It’d also be nice to keep a clean sheet. We’ve not got too many of those considering how pleased we all our about our back line!

Line Up

Almunia

Sagna Kozzer Squillaci Clichy

Diaby (Prob Denilson) Song Jack

Nasri Chamakh Arshavin

Right, I’m off to get some much needed surgery to my golf swing. At the moment I am to golf what Fabianski is to being a pair of safe hands… however, I believe in my swing and my spirit is good.

Have a great day Grovers, crack open a Peroni right now, if asked why, tell them Pedro said so! Your partner will understand…

P.S. I hope Eboue gets the 1000th Premiership goal. I’ve heard he’s prepared a special dance if he does… for a sneak peak, see below…

Kick racism out of football, oh sorry, that’s already been done but what about…

September 24, 2010

So Tomas Rosicky and Eboue are both doubts for the West Brom game but Diaby could be back, the great thing about the Arsenal these days is we are getting more solid at the back and the rest of the squad are great players, so we have plenty of cover, it also gives others a chance to show their worth.

Cesc should be back for the Chav game but with a midfield that includes Nasri and Wilshere we have nothing to worry about, the only question mark is who will he pick at DM, Denilson or Song?

How good is it that these days we have so much choice and we don’t need to put players in out of position.

I am still on a high after Tuesday and last night I met a spud at long last so I had a little bit of fun, see Arsene, see what it does to your fan base when you take a competition seriously and beat our most hated rivals, it gives us all a massive high, I hope you sanction a DVD so we can give them some of what they gave us back, tongue in cheek of course!

KICK, KICKING OUT OF FOOTBALL!

The new initiative in football from Le Grove, back us and our manager.

We have kicked racism out of football and we have the respect campaigns, both admirable as racism has no place in society and I have no idea what the respect campaign is for, but what about a campaign to back our manager, and kick, kicking people, out of football. (sorry for the commas, they were needed)

Harry Redknapp must have sent his players out with the specific task of letting Wilshere know where he was, I get sick and tired of hearing that no one goes out to break a leg, bollocks, they go out to hurt them, let them know they are in a game, then when something nasty happens, like with Shawcross, they think crying like a baby makes it all better, well it doesn’t.

We have way too many injuries these days for them all to be clumsy, they go out to hurt and sometimes it goes too far, well that’s like saying ‘I’m not a murderer because I only killed one person’ If you go out to hurt someone on purpose you are in that area where nasty injuries may happen.

I went the whole of my football career without ever maiming someone, sure I got sent off a few times, for dissent mostly, but I never kicked anyone, so when I hear managers like Pulis, Hughes, Allardyce and Redknapp saying that they don’t tell their thugs to kick our players, I don’t believe them, they know what they say and they know what their players are trying to do.

If you want further evidence, take a look at what those spud muppets did to our Jack, and he kept getting back up, Jack you are a real star and we all love you.

The thought of a midfield with him and Ramsey in it is one that has me licking my lips, tomorrow Pedro will do the pre match and on Sunday I’ll do the post match one.

Have a great day grovers and lets all combine to kick out foul play, until we kick out the managers that encourage it though, I can’t see it, maybe it’s time to hold the clubs responsible and start to fine them.

The financials are out later today, whoopie doos. £40-50million profit anyone?

UPDATE:

Rosicky was surprised with team selection, Wenger means business at last and Gibbs is on the mend.

September 23, 2010

Tomas Rosicky said the boss took everyone by surprise by picking a team from the first team squad, it shows he wants to try and win it, the fact he has not bothered for all these years is beyond me, but with the chavs, scousers and shitty all out now, we stand a real chance of winning if we can avoid the mancs, well it is the Chinese year of the trophy isn’t it?

I was thinking when I watched Chris Smalling score for the mancs last night how Arsene has never had a home growner make the first team at centre back, Djourou doesn’t count as he’s always injured and used to be a DM, like Song, who really isn’t a CB, after 13 years, I find that a bit strange, but after my initial caution with Kozzer, I’m pleased to see we have finally got 3 centrebacks that I would call world class, and aside from our keepers, we for first the first time since the invincibles, look solid at the back.

Yes I know we had Senderos and Upson, but they were never in the class of what we have now, so they don’t count.

Well done Arsene, for finding some decent CB’s and for trying to win the league cup at last, you saw how much that meant to the fans, beating the scum away was the perfect lift for the coming weeks, as much of a downer as it was for the chavs to lose, magic.

I thought Gibbs and Eboue worked better than Clichy and Sagna, I hope that makes those two buck their ideas up, now they have some real competition.

And to think we did all that with 8 players out, and that’s what I find so amusing about Van der Vaart’s comments that the spuds are bigger than Arsenal, mate you may have had some youngsters out there, but you didn’t play our first team, ha, ha how funny was that to see Harry’s face at the end, priceless!

I’m not quite sure what Lansbury’s position is but the more he plays, the better he’ll become, so if he is in line for DM, that gives us quiet a few options, Denilson, who I thought played well, Song, Eastmond, Lansbury (he can play there) and even Vermaelen, so for the first time I can remember, we have cover all over the pitch, we have Bendtner coming back very soon, Robin, JET, Chamakh, Vela, Walcott and Arshavin up top, we are well equipped, now we have to go out and win something.

Jack Wilshere starred against Braga, played a cracking composed second half against Sunderland and bossed the spuds, proving we don’t need to rest players as much as we thought we did, if he stays clear of injury, he may get player of the year, never mind young player of the year.n

Watching us beat the spuds on Tuesday gave me as much pleasure as winning the FA cup, I was beside myself and spent the whole evening racking my brains for a spud I could text, but who has spud friends eh?

Have a great day Grovers, we finally have a season to look forward to, and the players who can deliver, and don’t forget, we still have Ramsey to come back, as Pedro would say, Happy Days!

UPDATE:

O2 have been fluttering their eye lashes the way of LG this week. I’ve said we’ll plug there stuff if theycan offer you guys something… well, here it is (This comp isn’t exclusive to us sadly!).

Arsene, see what this means? / Demote Fabianski immediately / Spurs HUMILIATED!

September 22, 2010

Arsene, well played last night. We’ve been calling for you to take the Cups more seriously for three years, last night you did and you delivered stunning victory to fans all over the world. Pride has been restored since our defeat last year and we own the bragging rights in the office today.

Our own kid! Jacky boy!

Did you hear the fans singing the whole game? Did you see the Spurs supporters exodus after the third goal? Can you now see what it means for us to win games like these? Forget what people call the Carling Cup, it’s a trophy and we all love trophies! I hope you take the rest of the competition this seriously because we want a Cup this year and a day out at Wembley!

Fabianski,

Eboue Kozzer JD Gibbs

Rosicky    Wilshire    Denilson

Lansbury                     Nasri

Vela

Ekkoto shoving over Lansbury just outside the box was the first big talking point. It wasn’t a penalty, but it was a perplexing decision as to why the ref didn’t give a freekick?

The game wasn’t being played at a high tempo which was unusual for a derby. The fans looked more charged than the players!

Things spiced up after Eboue played a super low cross field ball to Rosicky who waited for the Jack Wilshere run,  rolled the ball into his path, the Englishman looked up, slide a defence splitting ball into Lansbury who drop it into the empty net! Sublime.

Englishman to Englishman… it’s been a long time since I’ve been able to say that… in fact, I can’t remember ever saying that?!

Wilshere was crunched by Livermore who received a yellow card, moment later, Sandro crashed into him clumsily. You sensed Spurs frustration at not being able to get near us.

Denilson smashed a freekick from about 40 yards. Normally I’d moan as it was a pretty silly place to strike from, but it’s not the scoring, it’s the shooting that counts!

Jack Wilshere was running the show in the middle of the park despite Spurs crass tactics. The thing I like about Jack is his fight. The more he gets bullied, the more he wants the ball. A superb character trait.

JD was looking a bit rusty. I suppose you would after a whole career out injured. Lansbury was doing all the basics right, it was a promising half from another player who has suffered in the physio room.

Jack Wilshere threaded a sublime through ball to Gibbs who is judged offside incorrectly.

The first half finished with us leading. It was too easy, far too easy. Surely Spurs wouldn’t be this flat in the second half?

The second half started, Keane and Ratboy came on and immediately shook things up. Keane was played in and adjudged to have been played onside by Gibbs, he looked to the lino, bounded into the box and tamely struck a shot at Fabianski’s near post, the Pole spilt the ball into his net embarrassingly.

Has there ever been a worse Premiership goalkeeper?

My Spurs sparring pal Dave took time out to text me..

‘This could be a DVD game in the making….’

The ref allowed another brutal challenge on Jack Wilshere go unpunished. When it’s clear a team is rotating fouls on a key opposition player, the cards should come out instantly to stop it.

Arsenal managed to get on top of their game again. Eboue had the chance to slide Nasri in but went for a ridiculous shot. Rosicky crossed a beautiful ball into the path of Vela who could only head over. Shame Chamakh wasn’t on the end of it.

Vela didn’t seem to be making the right runs. He was either too deep or in the way. He’s got a long way to go before he can play that central position on his own. I can’t imagine what we’ll do if Chamakh gets injured…

Arsene was struggling to communicate with the bench. Every time Sky focused on Pat Rice and the gang, they looked like a bunch of lemons. Arsene’s technological naivety exposed…  you never get reception in a stadium during a game Arsene!

Samir Nasri continued to cause Spurs problems with his intricate running and his nack for popping up in the right places. Eboue was now finding his feet and a lot of the good play was coming through his daring runs.

Kieron Gibbs fluffed the offside trap for real this time allowing Ratboy in, Kozzer slid in to deny him a shooting opportunity with a superb last gasp tackle!

Our boys always seemed half a second off the pace when pulling the trigger. A goal was coming, which way it was going was still very much up in the air!

Wenger brought on Chamkah and Arshavin and the threat was instant, Chamakh grazing a header just wide.

The Scum were tiring… their fitness nowhere near our level!

Eboue won a freekick in the last minute, the cross was flapped at by the keeper but no one could turn it in!

Extra time it was…

After one minute, Nasri was played in by a first time Arshavin ball, his pace was enough to force Bassong into a clumsy challenge. The ref had no option, penalty. The superstition of French players not taking penalties if they win them was clearly lost on Nasri who stepped up and buried it. After the game, Wenger told Sky that superstition was based on fear and that he’d told the Frenchman to get over it.

The goal pleased me for two reasons. First it was a goal. Secondly the last thing we needed was Fabianski winning us a penalty shoot out and all the AKB’s telling us that he should stay and be our keeper for 15 years.

Moments later, another penalty was won after Chamakh was felled chasing another Arshavin through ball… Nasri stepped up and struck an even better penalty for his second!

3-1 up! No chance of a penalty shoot out. The editors for Spurs DVD suppliers could go to bed now, there was going to be no miracle tonight.

The home fans had a cheek sarcastically applauding a free-kick. They wouldn’t even be in extra time if it weren’t for a crap decision.

A quick word for the away fans… exceptional, a credit to the club. If only you were allowed to make that much noise at home!

The game got even better as Bentley headed wide from about 4 yards.

Gibbs went off injured without his boot in hand…  It’s rumoured it might be another metatarsal injury.

Arshavin popped up with a superb final goal latching onto Wilshere through ball and buried it into the bottom corner.

This was a spanking. Worthy of a DVD? Not likely… we’ve got proper aspirations!

Keane had a shot cleared off the line by Nasri. It looked like it crossed the line, I hope it did,  it’d make the victory even sweeter!

Ratings (Tracker):

Fabianski: Had nothing to do all game bar save a tame Robbie Keane near post shot… and he let it slip through his wrists. Awful goalkeeping but not surprising. How many more chances does he get? Has a keeper ever made so many mistakes? He’s almost on an error a game and that is unforgivable at this level. Promote Chesney if he’s good enough or buy someone who can cope with the mental pressure. 3

Eboue: I thought he played like a headless chicken in the first half, not sure whether he was right back or right midfield. He grew with the game though and his attacking presence and superior fitness shone through in the second half. 7.5

JD: Shaky start from the Swissman (?). He was caught out of position a number of times and he made a few clumsy challenges. He grew with the game though. His calmness is reassuring and I think he’ll be a much more able deputy than Senderos. 7

Kozzer: A very solid game considering it was his first north London derby. He won everything in the air, he didn’t cave to the physical challenge and he made a few vital tackles. A great performance. 8

Gibbs: Unlucky that the lino missed the blatant offside for the Spurs goal. He was the last man and he wasn’t in line with the rest of the defence. I thought he was sloppy at times tonight, mainly in a positional sense, I put that down to youth. His second half was much better, he had Ratboy in his pocket, so much so, the Spurs man ended up swapping wings! I think he’s got a big career ahead of him for us, lets hope this injury isn’t serious. On that point, why is he still wearing those flimsy boots? Can’t Nike provide him a leather model? 7.5

Rosicky: I thought he was superb in the first half. He didn’t let that penalty miss bother him linking the midfield and attack nicely with some clever passes and tireless effort. He looked like he may have picked up an ankle knock after being crunched by someone from the scum (Sandro I think). 7.5

Nasri: Great listening to Nasri articulate his thoughts on Jack Wilshere after the game. He was solid in the first half without really impressing, the second half he came into his own popping up all over the park, playing the ball into space, running at defenders and generally causing a nuisance. He took responsibility for both penalties and did well to convert under pressure. I feel like his game is about to explode on us… I’m looking forward to seeing that happen! 8.5

Vela: I think he struggled to play in up top on his own. He’s only young and not really suited to playing the loan striker role. He needs to learn the position and develop this year. He’s better out wide or as an impact sub. 6

Denilson: We saw the best and worst of Denilson. His decision making is bad at times and sometimes his positional play is poor. Overall though, I thought he did well, playing slightly more advanced that Jack most of the time but mucking in to help out with the defensive duties.7

Wilshere: Reckons that getting kicked is part of playing for Arsenal. It doesn’t bother him. What a champ. Great response, superb performance! His vision and maturity in the middle of the park was exceptional today and he was a dream to watch. Superstar in the making? I think so! 9

Lansbury: Popped up with the first goal which was a great moment for a boy who has been with the club since he was a kid. His passing for the most was crisp and he didn’t really make too many mistakes. I like him, he doesn’t set the world alight, but he’s a very capable player and hopefully his confidence will grow as the season goes on. 7

Subs

Arshavin: He came on to change the game and he certainly did. He might look lazy at times, probably because he is, but his two through balls won us two penalties in the space of 5 minutes. He justified his salary tonight. 7.5

Chamakh: He made the run for the second ball and his hard work tired the Spurs defence even more so than they were already. A few sloppy touches and dodgy passes, but nothing to worry about. He came out of the game unscathed which is the important thing! 7

Clichy: Didn’t really have a lot to do! 6

Another missed target \ Who’s back in training \ Why Cesc to Madrid makes sense

September 22, 2010

I speak to lots of different people I’ve met through the site who do various roles at different organisations related to with football. Mainly because of Le Exchange.

I was speaking to one such person who has quite a lot of involvement at lower league level and he told me yesterday that when Joe Hart was at Shrewsbury Town, Arsenal were offered him, he was interested, but after scouting him a few times we decided he wasn’t good enough to join!

Amazing eh? Another one that got away!

On the keeping front, there were some rather naughty comments from our Polish number 4 keeper in the media yesterday. Apparently the reason he hasn’t gone out on loan this season is becuase he is entering the last year of his contract (at least he was in the summer). He’s now keen to get some first team football and he’s trying to hold the club to ransom and is a little upset someone who makes an error a game is the number two ahead of him.

Apparently he’s not the sharpist tool in the box and if he wants my opinion, he should sign on with us, go out on loan and stop being such a David Bentley. I appreciate he’s a major talent, but I don’t think he’s going to right way about winning a place in the side. He’s is only 20… he could do with a year at West Ham if you ask me. I’m thinking this is going to end one way… it has Merida written all over it. Project youth and it’s pitfalls eh?!

The Cesc quotes he made to a Spanish radio station may surprise some, talk of him going to Madrid would seem crazy for someone with Barca DNA, but I’ve said many times in the comments that’s a distinct possibility becuase I was informed a few months ago that Real Madrid told Arsenal in the summer they were prepared to outbid Barcelona for Cesc whatever the cost… and if Barca are still skint next summer and Cesc still wants to leave us, he’ll have to go to the highest bidder which will be City (who also enquired) or Madrid.

If the comments are true, they are calculated… that’s a message to Barca to up their bid and to Madrid to watch this space. Which is poor form from Cesc… He should be focused on Arsenal and he shouldn’t be talking to radio stations that he knows are looking for quotes like that.

In other news, apparently Vermaelen and RvP started running yesterday. The Belgian should be back for Drogba. Robin? Well, that’s anyone’s guess! Cesc’s injury isn’t major and it’s iffy if he’ll be back for the Chav game. One thing is for certain, he will not be risked…

Anyway… tune in at 0900 for the match report!
