A new keeper is a must today Arsene, for so many reasons it’s a must.

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Barcelona unsettled Cesc so badly this summer that the player himself was in two minds, the reason he’ll be back to his best is because both Barca and Arsenal wanted him, so in effect he had two birds fighting over him, only our bird had him tied down to a 5 year contract, so the old slapper from Spain lost out.

All the pundits were giving their reasons as to why he should go or stay but all agreed he was up there with the worlds best, giving the assist in the world cup final merely put the Cherry on the cake.

Now let’s move on to our two keepers, Almunia and Fabianski, they have been bandied about by the press all summer as hapless and guilty of costing us points in many games, we have made 2 bids for Fulham’s keeper and had them rejected, Wenger said in pre season, he didn’t know who his number one was and admitted he was after another keeper, all this will tell even the most stupid of people they are not considered good enough for this team and one would suspect the captain has given his opinion and that Almunia knows it as well.

So what we have achieved is to unsettle three keepers, two of ours and Fulham’s, he can’t now go back to them and have any kind of relationship with their fans, Almunia will always know he wasn’t wanted and isn’t rated, so for many, many reasons we have to get a new keeper today. Giving him the armband doesn’t made it or him better.

What we have done is not professional and that’s not Arsenal, yes we may get a cheap keeper with these tactics but if we don’t, we’ll screw up two careers and for me that’s as bad as Barca and their tactics.

Come on Arsenal, we are better than that, do the right thing and spend that extra £500k, he could win us the EPL and the ECL, maybe even the FA Cup and the Carling, don’t lose out again.

One last thing, let’s put out a proper team against the spuds, I would hate to lose out to them again in this cup, it means a lot to us fans to win a trophy, it means every bit as much to us to beat the scum.

WE NEED TO PUT OUT A DECENT TEAM, THEY DON’T CARE WHAT THE AVERAGE AGE IS OF OUR TEAM, AND NOR DO WE.

Have a great day grovers, we are half a million quid away from having a great team, now we signed Squillaci I am happier at the back, we aren’t far off, getting cover up front would be good, getting cover at DM would be better, but getting a new keeper now, is an absolute must.

QOS, if we had a new GK and DM joining in this transfer window, they would be Arsenal players and we would love the team exactly the same way except that we would be celebrating and be more hopeful. Now we have who we have, so we will support and hope and, alas, pray (because that is really needed) for some success and glory done with stylish football. I don’t see any merit to being flawed for its own sake. If there are good reasons for those flaws, we can accept them. But if they don’t need to be weaknesses we should be trying to improve and give ourselves the best possible chance for victory.

We are good supporters and we deserve that. I don’t know if the club has let us down–I don’t have all the information–but it sure feels like it could be doing more with the resources we have.

i am pissed off big time! and i must be one of the most dedicated ‘AKB’s to post on this site – shit! shit! shit! pisswankfuck!

  3. Dan,The Gooner.

There’s another embarrassment waiting around the corner for us in the shape of tottingham hotshit in the 3rd round of the carling cup.

  4. timao

maybe a surprise announcement in the morning??? meanwhile, sczeszny to play a blinder against spuirs in the CC and keep the jersey, hail almunia! good night

  5. John A

TBH, I don’t hate Clown or Flappy. After all it’s not their fault they’re shite. There’s only 1 person to blame and that’s our twat of a manager !

He signed them, he plays them and he refuses to sign decent alternatives.

Wenger, sod off, You’re not welcome any more !

are u serious Limestonegunner? Where is the fukking money from sales of Greedybayor etc. gone? WE do each year one of the biggest profits, being 3. richest football club in the world ( profits ) and acting worse Blackpool did. It is fukking enough but fans does not have any power to fukking Arsene FC!!! Yes Arsene FC, it is no more Arsenal. I said it before and will say it again. Wenker lost his complete sense and brain after the loss in 2006 championsleague final. More trophyless seasons to come!!!

  8. Kushagra India

Why after every transfer window our team always complete, never a feeling gets into the mind BRING IT ON!!
ALMUNIA has already cost us 2 points
Oh gosh thanx for the international week ahead

  9. Limestonegunner

I agree that Szceczny (sp?) should get some game time and be out no. 2 at least. If Almunia has a bad game, he should be replaced and Szceczny should start CC, FA and any group games in the CL we don’t need for qualification. Time to put some pressure on Almunia, since he seems to play better that way. No way can Fabiansky be our number 2 at this point.

  10. zeus

And then you all turn around and want to lynch Cesc and brand him a mercenary. Why should he want to?

Its very telling that he hasn’t been talking up our chances of silverware. He is not deluded and I respect that.

We are all fans here but you seem to let your support cloud your view of the reality we are in. We are at the very best only marginally stronger than last season we are certainly not 11 points better and every other team has strengthened.

There is a serious problem at Arsenal at the moment and the first step in fixing a problem is to acknowledge that there is a problem in the first place, The board are never gonna do that unless the fans make it perfectly clear that they are unhappy with not winning anything and stop spending money at the club.

  12. Queen of Suburbia

I understand what you are saying limestone…its just that maybe an expensive recruit would feel a bit like cheating, like playing a ringer.

Like I say, its not rational and i don’t expect everyone to understand it. Its an emotional reaction.

Buying a new keeper was the sensible logical thing to do. Wenger has taken a huge leap of faith. I’m in.

  13. Limestonegunner

Arsenal4ever, what are you reacting to? When did I say we don’t have the money? My whole point is that we do have the money and it is a shame we haven’t strengthened because the league is there for the taking. What do you disagree with so dramatically?

Btw, to QOS, I meant we are good supporters and DON’T deserve to be let down like this.

  14. Limestonegunner

QOS, Yes, I’m in as well, of course, but when Arshavin or Vermaelen came, did you have these qualms? No one is talking about Ronaldo and Kaka here.

    You want to see the agenda at the club right now, its strategic weakening and stagnation of the team to maximise profits. This is the last 14 months action in the transfer market;

    INS;

    Squillaci £4m

There is zero ambition at this club to win trophies, its just about vast profits and fucking the fans over

  17. MatthewT

    Keyser

Fair enought, we are weaker, we replaced two proven top class centre backs with two unknowns and managed to reduce the confidence of our already shite goalkeepers to zero.

… we are also starting the season with serious injury problems …

  18. Queen of Suburbia

Well i’d been a big fan of Arsha since he took Rangers apart so I felt a bit differently then, it was one of those we’re really getting him type deals for me!

Vermaelen it was strange, there was so much negativity about him before he signed that I wanted him to prove that the manager and his team were the best judges and he went and did that.

Maybe part of the appeal for me is the road less travelled? My natural instinct is to trust the manager even when it was Terry Neill!! Maybe I do that too long. Time I guess will tell!

  19. Limestonegunner

Zeus, I respect Cesc alot too. I don’t go for that traitor stuff. I wish he didn’t want to go but he didn’t refuse to play or publicly demand a trade. He always has given his all for Arsenal and is being a real professional. The problem is that the club hasn’t followed on from its strong stand in refusing to sell him to be equally determined in making a statement of intent to strengthen this team as much as possible with the available resources and give him the best chance of winning with Arsenal this season. He isn’t talking up our chances because that is false bravado. We can win it but there is no reason to be especially confident that we will.

It would be nice going into the season really, actually feeling like we have as good a chance as our toughest competitors. Chelsea still has a better chance, I think. But maybe we will make it happen.

  20. arsenal4ever

sorry jsut read “I don’t know if the club has let us down–I don’t have all the information” so I thought you are “happy” as it is right now as we cant change until jan. Missunderstood it!!

  21. John A

The retrobates that run this club should just come out and say that they are starving this club to death for a reason.

Why make the fans suffer year after year after year, when they know full well that we will not be strenghtening the squad.

They must be having a right laugh at us fans for hanging onto their every word and expecting them to actually get off their fat hairy overpaid underworked arses and actually strenghten the squad.

I’ve seriously had enough of Arsene and his fucking puppets and for one will never watch his pathetic pre & post match conferences again !

    Goodnight all

  22. zeus

‘Wenger has taken a HUGE leap of faith……..

That must be one hell of a leap. Wenger not buying a keeper was done for no other reason other than him wanting to prove everyone wrong and showing himself to be a genious.

4 more years to go unfortunately.

  23. John A

You’re having a laugh incesc. Wenger was watching England train instead of doing any real work !

What a fucking waste of space that man is.

  24. gambon

I hope Wenger gets fucking lynched at the Q&A, i literally hope someone has a noose, public hangings usually send a good message out.

Hopefully theyll release the year end financials before that, but i doubt it, they know theyll get some serious questions if they do that!

  25. gambon

We are a big club with huge funds.

Laws and Gazidis have an easy, easy job. However they cant pursue targets that dont exist.

  26. incesc

    qos

missing out on schwarzer because we wont up our offer sounds a lot like alonso, ribery and a few others we lost out on before gazidis.

it seems to be an arsenal thing in general.

theyve had what 6 months since it was a definate we needed a new keeper.

    insane.

anyway i didnt expect it to happen today so im not going to get myself wound up.

  27. Keyser

Go on gambon, I dare you. That’d send him a message for definite, make sure you don’t go all INXS on him though.

  28. zeus

    John A

    Hahahahahahahahahaha.

    Incesc

Wenger was reading poetry and drinking red wine while the rest of us were freaking out. MUG.

  29. zeus

I’m already over it. like I said earlier, we know the destination, 3rd/4th, lets just enjoy the ride til we get there.

  30. Limestonegunner

Gambon, I wonder if it is so easy for Gazidis and Laws to recruit players to Arsenal now. Sure young talented players hoping to break into the first team of a major club if given a chance–they might be enthusiastic to come. French players who like Squillaci really admire Wenger and know they will feel comfortable at Arsenal with other players from around Europe and especially France–they seem to be ready to join Arsenal. But after several years of finishing third or fourth and several years, are experienced and quality players as interested in joining Arsenal?

It is a question I worry about because if this team doesn’t reverse that trend very soon, our young players will be mid and later career without achieving much and our best players will want to leave and we will still have the legacy and image of not being an attractive team team to established players. Not so good.

  31. incesc

imagine of almunia gets a long injury and flappy is in goal fucking up for a couple of months!

    :)

there will be mass walk outs at the grove once flappy starts leaking goals in big games, loads of groaning, abuse at wenger and the players.

    cant wait.

  32. gambon

    Limestone

VDV has signed for Spurs, if they can sign good players then we certainly can.

2 years ago David Villa said he would like to join Arsenal. Theres no doubt we can sign good players.

That would be a very good question to ask at the q&a’s

  34. norwegian bergkamp

I find it unbelievable that Wenger didn`t manage to sign a goalkeeper in three f*****g months. All that time he wasted in representing castrol and not to forget commenting in south africa. It was our biggest problem and he adressed it, at l…ast, but because of his obsession of being compared to scrooge he didn`t want to spend more than 2 f*****g million pounds to make us serious title challengers.
And now Almunia knows that Wenger no longer rates him. What will that do to his confidence? This is the biggest mistake Wenger has ever made and if we don`t win anything this year he should consider his position.
The most important thing for us fans to do now is to get behind Almunia. He is our hope now and I will sing his name every time I`m at the Emirates. This is Wengers fault, not Almunias!See More

  35. Limestonegunner

I believe Wenger has said that lots of players want to come to Arsenal and he is always hearing this, but I would wonder how many are experienced internationals in their career prime. I’d like to believe there are many, but…

  36. incesc

    limestone

i reckon there are 100 plus keepers out there better than flappyanski, 50 plus keepers better than almunia.

as if we couldnt have signed a keeper.

schwarzer clearly wanted to come, im sure given would have come.

champions league football is huge, every keeper bar 5 or 6 at barce, man u, chelsea, bayern and inter would join us given the chance.

  37. Limestonegunner

    where are they?

Gambon, David Villa is friends with Cesc. If Cesc weren’t here, as he may not be in the near future, would he have said that? I would hope so, but Ozil didn’t even mention us when talking about teams in the PL he would be interested in.

  38. chris

cant wait to see the sh1t that wenger comes out with soon about the final day.. the word ‘close’ will be used at least 5 times.. if he had any ambition he would just fork out a bit.. oh well its on his head.. oh wait no its not

  39. arsenal4ever

but this Ryo Miyaichi guy we signed is as exciting like Wellington. Wenger should only scout young talent as he is best in this.

  40. zeus

What is funny is when respected guys like Arseblog and gunnerblog said things like ‘Wenger won’t let Cesc go cuz he wants one last crack at the PL’ and ‘he should get the money to compete cuz if he doesn’t win he will start to reconsider his position at arsenal.’

Hehe. Why would Wenger leave? He is GOD here.

I remember Wenger saying that he was sick to his stomack when we lose, well then, I don’t see him feeling sick when we lose the title, I see big smiles and talk of improvement.

The once great man has truley lost the will to succedd and is at a point now where mediocrity is acceptable.

3rd place is a trophy would NEVER pass the lips of the Wenger of the 90s early 2000s…..

  41. Limestonegunner

incesc, I am not in any way excusing the failure to bring in a GK–see my comments further up. I am talking more generally about the diminishing status of our club as a consequence of the last few years of only finishing 3 or 4th; it feels like it is eroding and we are going to have difficulty perhaps recruiting top quality players if this continues in the same way that we may have difficulty holding onto our best players.

  42. alex

“If we do not deliver in one or two years I will be responsible”

What he said at last q&a in May 09, someone should put this quote to him at next Q&A if there’s gonna be one

  43. zeus

Goonerholic as always well reasoned and measured. He is better than I am………

I know people will be expecting a bit more than I am able to offer tonight or tomorrow. For a variety of reasons I am in the middle of two very long days, and today has helped put some of the events, or should I say non-events, of today into some perspective. I have time for just a brief overview of where I stand tonight.

I do appreciate though how much people were looking forward to the arrival of a new goalkeeper today. I cannot lie and say I wasn’t one. Having said that it is a matter of record that I thought that if Mark Schwarzer was the answer, then we were asking the wrong question.

I have some sympathy with those expressing their displeasure, but would caution against aiming your fire at individuals. Particularly the wrong individuals. Arsene Wenger identifies his targets, but it is down to others to seal the deal.

There is something less comforting about this affair though. It is extremely un-Arsenal like to have so publicly courted an individual. The undisguised attempts to woo Schwarzer must have had an effect on the four ‘keepers who currently remain on the books, and on whom we will now need to depend until at very least January. The Highbury House inquest should include a resolution to return to the days when ALL potential deals were kept quiet until sealed.

I have to pray though that some semblance of calm is maintained. We are second in the table with one of the competitive away fixtures behind us. On Saturday there were glimpses of the Manuel Almunia of 2008. A much better goalkeeper I would suggest than Mark Schwarzer of 2010.There are better, I’ll grant you, but the Fulham veteran isn’t one.

Possibly on Thursday I will expand a bit on this, and cast in concrete my hopes and predictions for the season now that we are where we are. Until then may I express the wish that you and yours are all fit and well, ‘holics.

  44. zeus

For god sake. We don’t need Van der Vaart.

He is nowhere near Cesc’s level and is probably marginally better than Nasri. Good player, but we are not inneed of attackers.

We needed a keeper thats it.

  45. Dick (aka Willy)

Well done whoever posted that link for the supporters centre. We should ALL be bombarding that inbox with feedback.

    We should NOT be swearing.

We SHOULD be getting our views across eloquently and in a manner which will ensure they are read.

If the feedback is intelligent enough, it will reach the right channels.

So no calling Hill-Wood a steamed-up spectacled cunt.

  46. Dick (aka Willy)

    My feedback to Arsenal:

I am just writing to tell you how utterly DISGUSTED I am as a paying Arsenal fan that the club has – once again – spat in the face of the fans.

We were more or less promised a new goalkeeper; once again, NOTHING delivered.

How much longer are we, the supporters and sustainers of Arsenal, expected to pay the HIGHEST TICKET PRICES IN EUROPE whilst being let down time upon time upon time by the lack of ambition from those we entrust with our club?

What more can us fans do other than voice our opinions at games and through the media, and continue paying through the nose to watch our team?

When is a department within Arsenal Football Club going to exist which actually listens to the fans and facilitates the overriding, general consensus feedback of the fan-base to the manager and the board? As it seems pretty redundant allowing supporters the opportunity to buy shares in Arsenal for “ONLY” £10,000 a time (supposedly enabling us to become more integrated with the club) yet not even heed simple fan preference?

i.e. that Almunia and Fabianski are two of the biggest clowns ever to play for The Arsenal

I am not expecting Arsene Wenger to pick the team or buy players based on fan suggestion. Far from it. But the fans aren’t happy and no one is listening.

Believe me, the sheep will cease to flock if they are constantly treated like idiots.

The facts do not lie– no trophies during Almunia’s ill-fated term as Arsenal No. 1, countless errors and officially (we all know how much Wenger loves his stats) one of the worst goalkeepers in the Premier League with the 4th lowest saves-to-shots-on-target ratios. And let’s not even get started on Fabianski.
Yet Wenger refers to them as “great”??

I do not accept that the transfer market was more difficult than usual this year. Regardless of the circumstances, the outcome was the same: disappointment for Arsenal fans all over.

Take it from me – a fan who very much has his ear to the ground amongst the fan community – the general opinion (and it has been for a while) is that Arsenal and its board care very little about making Arsenal competitive, and more about lining their pockets with huge net transfer profits, thrown back in our face behind the smokescreen of “financial stability” in the wake of the stadium move.

THEN WHAT WAS THE POINT OF MOVING STADIUMS IN THE FIRST PLACE??

And please, spare us all the fiscal responsibility masquerade.

One minute the likes of Wenger and Gazidis are telling us, inter-alia, that the club “can finally compete with the heavyweights of the transfer market”.

The next minute they’re waxing lyrical about how “it’s dead out there”.

Why not try injecting some life into it then, like the other ‘big clubs’ are?

Sorry, but I don’t consider two £2M bids followed by a too-little-too-late £4M offer for Schwarzer to be enough.

You’re dicing with fortune and the fans’ patience.

The conduct of Arsenal Football Club over the last few seasons in terms of ambition and a genuine desire to win trophies for the fans has been utterly abysmal.

I will end this by stating something that should be obvious: Arsene has had all summer to sort out the transfers this clubs needs, yet he chose to go and commentate at the World Cup. A manager on £6M a year and a “world class scouting network” that is allegedly comparable to none other, yet we can’t identify one target within our (apparently extended) price range before tonight’s deadline? Reeks of incompetence to me.

  47. Dick (aka Willy)

Anyone hear the rumour that we were in for Pingu?

Apparently we couldn’t offer him enough kippers so he chose to stay at Igloos Anonymous.

  48. paul mc daid

RICKY,thanks for the link to the supporters centre, give them a piece off my mind, this site should post the link every dad at the start off the blogs, that way we have direct access to the club, thanks again, good work.

  49. HendonGooner

    Well said Dick (aka Willy)!

I’m cashing in my season ticket.
Had enough of putting my hard earned money into this club. No investment in resolving the same old problems. The only contract that got sorted out this transfer window was Wenger’s. Obviously he more more busy sorting that out than getting a decent goalkeeper into the team.

I’m not going to waste anymore time and effort schlepping up to the Emirates to watch this team crumble at the business end of each season….

I’m going to become an armchair fan from now on…..
Thank you Wenger Thankyou Gazidis….You ain’t getting anymore of my money. Go fcuk yourselves instead. Because for the last 5 seasons that’s what you’ve been telling the fans to do.

  50. moray

my concern is that it seems we have bought whomsoever is available, rather than carrying our financial weight into the transfer market and forcing our way in.

And I get the feeling other clubs are tired of dealing with us. If one of your mates regularly goes missing when it’s their time to pay, eventually you stop inviting them out….

I hate to say it, but we look pretty thin squad-wise. We are gambling on too many players coming back from injury at the right time: Rambo, Djourou, Bendtner, VP. Anyway, let’s see. I wonder how many other clubs have their manager as their highest paid employee?

  51. HendonGooner

Unfortunately – Wenger keeps deluding himself that each season, since 2005, will (eventually) see him “pull a rabbit from out of the hat” and win a trophy using his flawed “Project Youth” + “Bargain basement transfers”.

In the meantime none of the glaring problems are resolved….Was it Einstein that said…”to repeat the same experiment expecting to see a different result is a sure sign of insanity?” (or something of that ilk).
Well – Wenger is surely insane to carry on like this…

  52. England's Hope

FFS other clubs aren’t tired of dealing with us. The market is dead.

That is no excuse for not buying a keeper, but let’s not concoct stories and sound like deluded idiots.

  53. AA23

This is just blatant negligence. A manager in any other business loses their job for ignoring an obvious problem like this.

  54. zeus

Anyone awake? Before you read what will undoubtedly be a gloomy post tomorrow, I implore you to listen to Alan Davies its up for grabs now podcast. might as well get a laugh.

I’m 1/2 way throughand already there has been talk of LJW the peacemaker, SAF, Almunia and ‘Arry Redknapp.

    I fully recomment it.

    http://playbackmedia.co.uk/its-up-for-grabs-now/

Bottom of page entitled Almunia for England.

  55. Maurya

Considering that work Arsene put in building this team from the scratch and youth policy, i couldn’t believe he is taking such a risk with keeper for saving few million pennies. 10million should be negligible in bigger scheme of things what Wenger himself doing.
I never liked the idea pouring in millions for identifying teenage keepers around the globe when we can get good ones ready and with decent price

  56. SUGA3

    morning ;)

just came back from PL, had lots of fun at my mate’s wedding, left all this transfer window bollocks behind without a care in the world…

caught up with some of my long-time-not-seen friends, it made me smile…

now I am back in the UK and can’t say I am too surprised – shame I did not place any bets with some of my fellow Grovers…

  57. DB10

FLOOD THE OFFICIAL WEBSITE WITH OUR MESSAGES HERE!!!! AND SHOW WHAT WE FEEL IN THE NEXT HOME GAME!!! THEY CAN NOT TREAT US WITH SUCH CONTEMPT!!!

  58. SUGA3

the fact that we paid nearly £4M for Denilson without a problem, yet we embarrassed ourselves with ‘two’ bids of £2M for MS is a fucking joke…

I really hope that tight bastard will get spit roasted at the Q&A, but I would not get my hopes up…

realistically, we will not win the league and will seriously struggle to remain in the top four, all thanks to Our Glorious Leader…

and oh, if he does not field a decent team against Spuds in the CC he should be sacked, simple as…

problem with GK position at Arsenal is that no fucker wanted either of our clowns on their books (especially my unglorious countryman, that is)…

  59. SUGA3

    *inglorious

    DB10,

this is a bit of Catch 22 situation: we are fans and we want our team to do well – booing Almunia could do the trick if he had an ounce of the ‘get up, spit out the dust and fight’ kind of attitude…

    Szczesny for no.1!

  60. SUGA3

    Kushagra,

do you seriously think they give a fuck?

the only place you can hit them is their pockets, from now on I will think twice before paying £50 or so for the bloody ticket!

I think its time we start showing it during matches in different measures i.e..They need to feel our pain.We are always one or two signings away form world beaters
and at business end we r always so near yet soo far

  62. zak

as you say Suga What can we do??

Booing the players or manager will not do the team we love any good, backing the team and cheering and Wenger will think he can do no wrong and we are all behind him. Hitting the club in the pocket is like a mossie biting an elephant. Sooo what can we do.??

  63. SUGA3

    Kushagra, zak,

I don’t know if you go to the games or not, I can only go to an occasional one, however, I think wearing white coats to the game would get noticed if it became a regular feature with a large number of fans…

just like the green and yellow Manure scarves…

as for hitting the club in the pocket, well, I know one person will not make a lot of difference, but there is more of them – I went to a few games that were not sold out, they have just diminished the chance of having full house at every game big time!

once again, penny wise pound foolish shit – all these fucking Yanks (no offence to US Grovers) should get the boot – I mean, what the fuck is their job at Arse?

    - marketing? advertising Chelsea kits on the US website is a sackable offence IMO
    - transfers? too busy negotiating loan deals for our players? or just out of their depth in Europe after working for US-style league with salary caps and other commie shit?

  64. dennisdamenace

Fucking pricks think we renew because we back their fucked up management, i renew because of my love for the club, NOT some Frenchman who’s past his sell by date and is ultimately just passing through the club….

  65. dennisdamenace

I said i would leave it until 1st September before really losing it, well here we are and nothing’s fucking changed, they sit on a pile of cash yet again, and the first team has NOT been strengthened. Well everyone who backs the madness can fuck off from my club, the board, the board’s paid bitch aka first team manager and all those hangers on who see no wrong in the direction of this club and the Frenchman balancing the books and his bonuses…….

  66. SUGA3

seriously, I’d probably blow a hole in my CC balance if I was offered a ST, which would probably get me disowned by the family!

fucking hell, if your barber does a Fanta on you, you tell him to go fuck himself, no?

maybe it’s not the right comparison I am drawing here – think of a dealer who sells you crap gear, it’s natural that you will find another one: problem is that we are Arsenal heads here, no substitute will do…

  67. Sam

    Hehe..

Now Almunia isnt really that bad and divert the transfer failures to Gazidis.

Some people cant accept the failures of Wenger.

  68. zak

As ive said before apart from white coats, how do we show our anger without harming the players, or is it inevitable that we just have no option but to accept the current situation DDM.

  69. RobFromAus

I am so disappointed that MS wasn’t bought by Arsenal but i do think some of you are being a bit rough on old Mark.

As a fellow Aussie seeing him in an Arsenal shirt would’ve been a fantastic thing not only for MS but Aus football as well. I’ve watched MS single handed save Australia at a international level COUNTLESS amounts of times and he was the reason we participated in the 2006 world cup(penalty shootout against Urugauy). To read that Almunia is better, in my opinion is a fucking insult considering he has ZERO caps and was trying to play for mighty England just to get on the international scene! Mark ain’t no calamity and i think he doesn’t get enough credit. Even Cech,Van Der Sar & Reina make those shitty mistakes. But to say Alumnia is on the same level as MS, now that’s just daft.

  70. dennisdamenace

    No, i am not.

I love my club, yet these cunts and their cuntish followers are driving me ever further away from the club i love.

  71. SUGA3

    RFA,

I always rated MS – I recall him giving me a few headaches playing for Boro and Fulham – IMO he would be an absolute hit and a great stopgap for Szczesny, who has some sick talent and will deffo come good…

as always, I will get behind the team, no matter what, they are MY team, but seeing Cesc wanting to leave and management doing fuck all to address all too obvious weaknesses is just negligent…

I think the cunt thinks of us as a bunch of plebs and is doing a Marie Antoinette on us: ‘so, they have no bread? let them eat cake then’

  72. SUGA3

    Sam,

why would I accept the failures made by someone paid £6M a year? mind you, these failures are only caused by him and him only:

    - tactically inept
    - stubborn in the transfer market
    - delusional

    need I go on?

  73. RobFromAus

    Suga3,

My opinion was more aimed at those (without getting into name calling)retards who were saying earlier on that MS was an ideal replacement. I recall MS being practically the reason that Fulham made the Europa cup final or whatever it was last year! Just to read comments along the lines that “He is no good but better than what we have”, is just craziness! Yeh he is aging but would’ve been a perfect mentor for the young Szchenzy (<–spelling?)..

  74. SUGA3

and no, Almunia is not that bad, he is a solid enough no.2 and this is where he should have stayed – we have not and will not win shit with him between the sticks…

and don’t get me started on Fabianski – I am Polish and I have seen more of him than the most of you combined before he came to Arsenal and I was of the opinion that he was not good enough back then – he is a few years older and if anything, he regressed instead of progressing…

  75. Sam

This is Alonso all over again.

Why did we target only MS ?
Is there no other better GK than Almunia in the world ?

Why did we have all eggs in one basket ? Is it because it was the only cheap option ?

  76. GARY C

As a fan of 45 years+, believe me i’ve witnessed some highs and lows, but this is managerial incompetence of the higest level. If The Arsenal cannot even sign a 37 yr old keeper, you have to wonder what is going on. This finally proves to me that Wenger is only concerned with his own finances. To me he is the footballing equivalent of Tony Blair. How must Fabregas be feeling now? Surely he must realise that to stay will be a waste of time. He surely will leave in Jan now

  77. dennisdamenace

IMHO as a club of our standing, should we really be chasing a 38 year old who’s never played ECL football, or any football of that level??

To emphasize that point, we offer £18m for Reina, and we told to piss off, so what next? Up the bid? Offer £18m for Lloris, Neuer et al? No, we chase a £2m 38 year old!!! This club is fucked up from head to fucking toe.

    For me, i’d take Mourinho NOW, he’d get us winning again, and i don’t care if he’s a cunt, he’s a cunt who’s a winner. Wenger’s not a cunt who doesn’t win!

  78. SUGA3

    MIDI89,

yes, there will be – behind the stewards ejecting the ‘abusive’ supporters, that is…

fucking totalitarian state at its best and AW is Our Glorious Leader – NOT!

  79. chippy

Is that the sound of a rumbling volcano i can hear in the distance or this mornings post from Geoff :-) Im guessing its going to go bang this morning lol

    MDI89,
The only way around it now is to give the young lad a go the crowd will be less eager to get on his back and besides hes far more vocal and confident than any of the other keepers,

  80. dennisdamenace

When, and it will happen, either Almunia or Fabianksi cost us a game it will get very nasty.

The worse thing though all of this, and the previous four or so years, is that this ‘management’ has polarised the fan base. Gooner against Gooner over scrawny fucking book keeper, fucking shocking!

  81. dennisdamenace

How the fuck will Wenger be able to ‘big up’ Almunia after his stumbling efforts to replace him???

What will be going through the player’s mind now eh, fucking hell i don’t think i’ve ever witnessed such an incompetant piece of ‘management’ anywhere. AW makes fucking Harry Redknapp look fucking talented…….

  82. DB10

I DONT CARE WHAT THE CONSEQUENCES ARE, IF HE DOESNT SHOW AMBITION TO SIGN A PROPER KEEPER, THEN PUT SCIZNY IN!!! START WITH HIM, HE CANT BE WORSE THAN THE TWO

  83. chippy

    DDM,
The Heebs can almost do a deal for a dutch international from Madrid for 8million in under 2 hours we carnt buy a 37 year old keeper from Fulham in over 3 months, Where the Fuck has the ambition gone :-(

  84. SUGA3

    tema,

well, perhaps this is a bit over the top – our outfield team with most of the players fit is as good as anyone’s, but having crap GKs with CB partnership nowhere near established and our FBs not interested in defending is a recipe for distater!

  85. dennisdamenace

Chippy – Pure and simple, it’s down to money. The fucking idiot offers 2m, MS puts a transfer request in, so the mug goes back with the same 2m bid, wtf? Trying to be clever has made him, and more imortantly, our club look cheap and pathetic……
