A new keeper is a must today Arsene, for so many reasons it’s a must.

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Barcelona unsettled Cesc so badly this summer that the player himself was in two minds, the reason he’ll be back to his best is because both Barca and Arsenal wanted him, so in effect he had two birds fighting over him, only our bird had him tied down to a 5 year contract, so the old slapper from Spain lost out.

All the pundits were giving their reasons as to why he should go or stay but all agreed he was up there with the worlds best, giving the assist in the world cup final merely put the Cherry on the cake.

Now let’s move on to our two keepers, Almunia and Fabianski, they have been bandied about by the press all summer as hapless and guilty of costing us points in many games, we have made 2 bids for Fulham’s keeper and had them rejected, Wenger said in pre season, he didn’t know who his number one was and admitted he was after another keeper, all this will tell even the most stupid of people they are not considered good enough for this team and one would suspect the captain has given his opinion and that Almunia knows it as well.

So what we have achieved is to unsettle three keepers, two of ours and Fulham’s, he can’t now go back to them and have any kind of relationship with their fans, Almunia will always know he wasn’t wanted and isn’t rated, so for many, many reasons we have to get a new keeper today. Giving him the armband doesn’t made it or him better.

What we have done is not professional and that’s not Arsenal, yes we may get a cheap keeper with these tactics but if we don’t, we’ll screw up two careers and for me that’s as bad as Barca and their tactics.

Come on Arsenal, we are better than that, do the right thing and spend that extra £500k, he could win us the EPL and the ECL, maybe even the FA Cup and the Carling, don’t lose out again.

One last thing, let’s put out a proper team against the spuds, I would hate to lose out to them again in this cup, it means a lot to us fans to win a trophy, it means every bit as much to us to beat the scum.

WE NEED TO PUT OUT A DECENT TEAM, THEY DON’T CARE WHAT THE AVERAGE AGE IS OF OUR TEAM, AND NOR DO WE.

Have a great day grovers, we are half a million quid away from having a great team, now we signed Squillaci I am happier at the back, we aren’t far off, getting cover up front would be good, getting cover at DM would be better, but getting a new keeper now, is an absolute must.

    NICE POST.

I agree fully the Goalkeeper issue has been completely mishandled. On a side note I have seen some online chatter about Schwazer being spotted at the Emirates. I hope its true.

  2. OPG

So the Telegraph is reporting what the Sun said we may or may not be true.
Why can’t we loosen the purse strings and buy a real top quality keeper?

  3. chippy

A new Keeper is an absolute must and a DM wouldnt go amiss either as we are so so light in that position and before anyone says what about Denilson Ill say hes fucking shit and shouldnt be near an Arsenal first 11 so there :-)

  4. Master P

FFS, we have, what, another 7 and a half hours til the window closes?

I will reserve judgement until then…

  5. Steve Biko

    Hey guys,

I saw Adebayor to Spurs rumours. seriously what is wrong with Harry rednapp? Why is he so obsessed with former Arsenal players from Henry, Viera, Gallas, Adebayor and Lassana Diara!

What is even more suprising is the nerve of those inbred Spurs fans. They talk so much about the gunners but in accepting our former players only prove that our players were good and therefore that their crap team is inferior.

  6. tonyadamsisgod

Given staying at City. Stockdale injured at Fulham. Only 9 hours for Hughes to find Schwarzer’s replacement from somewhere. IT AINT GONNA HAPPEN PEOPLE!!

  7. sol

Couldn’t agree more that if the Schwarzer deal don’t happen, then single-handedly Wenger has FUCKED both the remaining of his and Almunia’s career

He better know what he’s doing, because this could be really harsh on both

  8. Brian

I would love for us to have a new keeper but in all honesty i dont see it happening. Would love to be proved wrong though!

  9. arsenal4ever

tonyadamsisgod you are wrong!! MS wants out and has only 1 year left on his contract. If we have really bid 4 mill it will be done today.

  10. Big Dave

Think you might end up dissappointed today.

Don’t forget MS goes off for a month in Jan, so we will be back to square one

  11. Denilson

I’m all for the new keeper but the Arsenal did not “upset” Schwarzer!

We made a bid to “the club” and not the player. If they had refused our bid quietly as they should have, the keeper did not have to be upset. But instead, they posted it on their website for the whole world to see!

As far as Almunia goes, buying a new keeper does not mean the end of his career at the Arsenal (even though it looks likely) just like buying a new striker does not mean the end of RVP or Arshavin etc. Arsenal is a big team and it needs competition for places. May the best keeper be our No. 1.

  12. sol

Sabeel.. He won’t come in January as he will be out of contract in the summer, and NO WAY will Wenger pay £2 million or whatever it may be when he is free 6 months later.
That is exactly why he’s being a tight fuck now.

  13. mcmellish

Wenger has screwed Schwarzer over if he doesn’t sign him. The guy handed in a transfer request, that surely won’t sit well with the Fulham fans. So not only will he now be stuck at a club he doesn’t want to be but he’ll also have to deal with the Fulham faithful after it has been become common knowledge that he is desperate for the move to go through.

  14. lasylays

no mark scwarcher signing today… AW Should have wrapped it up while Hodgson was in charge-he was positive to the transfer whereby SParky jusi is a huge cunt and will not let Mark come!!!!!

  15. Steve Biko

    Guys,

I am reading the BBC LIVE transfer deadline thread and it is really amusing. It amuses me that every year we have random people sending twits or sms about how they or a relative have spotted a player who is headed for a new team. A typical one tends to read.

I work for Tottenham hostpurs but prefer to remain anonymous. I work in the cafeteria. I have just beern told to some tea for a meeting between the club officials and a player and his agent. The player is Adebawhore.

    or

My sister flew yesterday from Argentina. She says Diego Maradona was on the plane and he told her he is due to take over at Everton once Moyes goes to Aston Villa!

  16. Arsenal Tom

the latest noises from schwarzer and hughes sound pretty good, seems like its more down to them getting a replacement than us upping the cash.

  17. Brian

Wenger is shrewd. He might have told Almunia that he is still his preferred choice and hence in a bid to quell people’s talk and all that, he will go ahead and pretend to sign someone and also say that he has no first choice.

But i tend to agree with Sabeel that Schwarzer might come in Jan depending on how our campaign goes.

  18. SecretArsenal

Schwarzer would be good… Given better, but Hughes would sell is soul to the devil before lending Given to us! (Oh wait he already has sold his soul!!) But Schwarzer is better than anything we’ve got, so I’d take him!

The only shite part if we do take Schwarzer… the Socceroos have the Asia Cup, so we’d lose him for the month of January… not good for us as it would mean Flapmunia and Co. will need to hold the fort for a month!!!! If we’re not careful, the wheels, axle, engine, seats and doors could easily fall off, especially if we are doing well in towards the end December! Fingers crossed! :D

Cesc just has a WC hangover… with no pre-season prep, I’m no surprised! He’ll take a few games to be match fit again and maybe another to be at his best… nuthin’ to be worries about peeps ;)

If we do get a GK today, then I will be a relieved man (with a small concern), and happy that we have at least brought in new players… only time will tell just how good the signings will be… Big Makh should be dynamite once he’s clicked on to the EPL style/flow/tactics… Kozzy will need to forget Blackburn and pick up another half a yard of pace… while Squelchy will hopefully make some forwards cry just by looking at them!!

I have high hopes this season… GO THE GOOOONEERS!!!

  19. Wellington

its a joke its the last day and what should have been a top top priority is still up in the air

fucking act like a big club for once and get a good keeper

cause if it doesnt happen as soon as one of our shit keepers fucks up again, the fans will turn and the media will laugh

    sort it wenger

  20. sol

Denilson – no it doesn’t end his careerr at Arsenal, but if we don’t get MS then Almunia will always know he’s not no.1 in Wengers eyes. We ain’t buying MS to sit on the bench are we.
Fabianski, Mannone and Schezny know they have time on their side but not for Almunia….

  21. Walking Wounded

    Where are your H14?

    Today is judgement day!!!!

New keeper or no new keeper. One of us will be doing the blogging equivalent of running around Le Grove with our pants by our ankles!!!!1

  22. Bring back big Dave!

I think the bigger issue is that Gerry Peyton is our GK coach…When Bob was around Safe Hands was virtually impenetrable…he had confidence which filtered to the defence. Sadly, despite so much promise both Almunia and Fabianski need to look at their performances over 18 months and admit that they just don’t cut the mustard for top class football…their decision making is laughable

  23. Walking Wounded

    SecretArsenal

Any one or combination of our keepers will be able to hold the fort for a month! I mean they are shit, but not that bad!

  24. gambon

Your last chance to get something right Arsene!!

Buy a keeper and tough mutherfucker of a DM and we have a top class squad.

Fail to do that and we have a good squad that will finish 3rd.

  25. Arse&Nose©

yes I do feel that we could have handled the keeper situation better. Almunia has now lost all of his confidence and re-sale value.

Just look at Gomes the clown across the road, Harry looked stupid by praising him everytime he cocked up but look at Gomes now he is one of the best in the league!

  26. mcmellish

Steve Biko- Which team would take him? Everyone knows how poor he is and it seems like Wenger is the only one who thinks he will be a quality keeper some day.

  27. Steve Biko

Fabianski as number 2 is in my view a bigger problem than Almunia as number 1. With Fabianski as keeper for say the Carling cup it does not matter if we play the First team or the kids we are screwed.

  28. Brian

    Sabeel

he stuck with walcott when he was calmed a brainless footballer and now he is coming good.
he stuck with denilson and i dont know when he will come through
he is sticking with diaby despite all the name calling
he was by song’s side when he was shite and now is transforming well
he did the same with bendy when he didnt show the signs we wanted to see
and since he loves last laughs, he might be secretly relishing the prospect of sticking with Al and then hoping he will come thru like the rest.

  29. wattsy65

Can’t see it happening, unless there is another keeper in the wings somewhere, I’ll be bitterly disappointed if we don’t get a new goalie, our whole season hangs in the balance now.

Not to have all this done and dusted weeks a ago is a disgrace, in reality it’s a sacking offence anywhere else.

Meanwhile agree absolutely with your comments the treatment of Almunia, rubbish as he is, no one deserves to be humiliated like he has, don’t understand why he has put up with it, he has a lot of dignity that guy.

  30. Walking Wounded

I have a very strange feeling that Clichy will be sold today!

We have a tradition of flogging left backs for good money!

Is there anyone else likely to come in, apart from a GK?

  31. Steve Biko

mcmellish I think since Fabianski is highly rated in his homeland then perhaps a loan deal for him to a club in Poland is our only choice.

  32. Pedro

Brian, and for all that sticking with players… we’re in our 6th season without a trophy.

All hail Wenger and his sticking policy!

  33. John

Lone voice here probably but I don’t see the Schwarzer signing as a big deal. I really don’t think he is better than Almunia. A world class keeper would have been nice but they’re only available in Football Manager computer games, not in real life.
I’m going to support Almunia and will cheer him as loud as I can when his name is announced at the Emirates.

  34. chippy

    ## Breaking News~

Ive just followed Gunnersarus from Tottenham Hale all the way to White Hart Lane where he was met by a delegation that included Levy and Twitchy Cunt himself – Surely Not – This would be the biggest betrayal since Mo Johnstone signed for Rangers !!! “Im just waiting for him to be announced to the media with Brown Envelope in Pocket”"

  35. OPG

IMO whether or not City would sell Given to us I think his preference was to join us or another big club but we probably would never pay the potential fees/wages even on a loan deal.

  36. Rhyle

I think it may be worth trying some sort of Uri Geller-style positive thinking exercise today – everyone should send AW “buy a keeper, buy a DM” vibes at noon.

    It’ll work, you watch.

  37. A DISGRUNTLED GUNNER

the only sensible option is a swap deal with arsenal paying the original £2 million with either almunia or fabianski joining fulham on loan for the season. We could see how they fare in a different enviroment. If fabianski and almunia played games for arsenal then surely they can play for fulham. Its a win-win. Wenger’s original bid of £2 million gets accepted whilst fulham get a goalkeeper who has played for one of the best clubs in england.

  38. vinnyjones

mark hughes and fulham upset mark by not accepting the first offer. and sabeel we down under have been praying on here and other blogs that teh boss gets this done. schwarz will play till he is 40 the guy is a complete pro and a gentleman and family man and would be a perfect match for arsenal. also i used to work with him so have held hope for years we would sign him.

  39. Denilson

Sol, Wenger had already said he had no No. 1 so Almunia knew this already… It had nothing to do with bidding for MS

  40. Steve Biko

The biggest LOL for me was what I saw in BBC live text.
Some bloke claims to have seen Emile Heskey talking to Chris Houghton at St James Park? Seriously can you imagine what a Newcatsle fan feels when he hears that? LOL

In other news the single cause for so much stress among Arsenal fans Michael Silvestre has signed a two year contract with Werder Bremen. LOL. Their fans better prepare for 4 nil defeats!

  41. jules

Not going to happen . Given is staying , Hughes wanted him to replace , City won,t have it as they know it will end up making us stronger .

no links for Al or Flappy to go anywhere else no medicals

no links to any other keepers

it ain,t gonna happen , oh well , onlt the whole summer to address this issue

  42. Sabeel Indian Gunner

    vinnyjones

good to know, hope wenger does the right thing…
it is not a matter of Money or Bargains..its more about wether Wenger would not be egoistic about the deal,in trying to prove he wants title in HIS way

  43. Doublegooner

    Hey Guys..

Just to let you know Arsenal have confirmed an open top bus parade from the ground to Islington Town Hall next month parading the the healthy Bank Accounts.

  44. jules

Also do you think cunt Hughes will take flappy on loan just to accomadate us !?? no way

hope i mam wrong but aint gonna happen

  45. Arse&Nose©

We wont sell clichy because wenger has already gone on record about traore leaving. Why sell a back-up LB if you plan to sell Clichy?

I wish we’d sell him, if Real Madrid offer anything around 9m I’d bite their hands off.

Clichy is a nice guy, an honest player but he is positionaly rubbish and lacks concentration. It was ok when he was an 18 yr old but he should be at his peak now.

  46. Steve Biko

Breaking news. The one time linked player with Arsenal

Senegalese international centre-back Pape Diakhate, 26, has joined Lyon on a season-long loan from Dynamo Kiev.

  47. Jaguar reloaded

First of all,it was a decent display from Diaby. If he displays the same consistency all season,he will be a good substitute against teams from the bottom half

The mug Wenger should be sacked if we dont get a keeper today.Retard

  48. peter

morning people, wont it be better for us to move in for the Bologna keeper? he is really good and was outstanding yesterday against inter

  49. Steve Biko

    Jaguar,

much respect bro. I thought you would criticise Diaby despite his impressive display on Saturday. Kudos.

  50. Grimandi

I thought we played exceptionally well against Blackburn, we dealt with the long ball game well and I thought Diaby and Song played really well so no need for a DMC.

As for Golie, what do you guys think of AL HABSI from Bolton.

Surely thats a better keeper than MS.

  51. km

    Biko

yeh i got the info off Twitter last night

Lyon have made some good additions to their squad

    Gourcuff & Diakhate…not bad hey

  52. Arsene Nose Best

Talksport are saying Hugo Lloris is coming £14m + Manuel Almunia ! FFC wont release MS – not thats more of my liking
    2 minutes ago via web

  53. km

    DG

thats not going to happen because Lyon haven’t got anything lined up nor are they going to sell a top class keeper

  54. Steve Biko

    KM

Agreed. I think Lyon have bought well on top of having a great side. Marseille with their new strike force of Loric Remy and Gignac will also be interesting to watch.

  55. DB10

Just heard on talksport that is is ” highly unlikely” Schwarzer is coming to us. Unless Wenger signs someone else, a GK, you can safely say the beginning of the end starts today for our chances of landing major honors this season!!!! Sorry for being gloomy, but I was expecting this signing to happen

  56. Grimandi

    Steve Biko,

I saw Diaby winning some big physical battles against Blackburn, and he was marking Samba on set play.

Fair play to the guy, think he will be much better this year.

  57. Steve Biko

I also dont expect Lloris to come to us. Lets face it Lyon are the biggest club in France are up for a fight in their league to reclaim their title. They will not sell their best Goalie and not for that ridiculous amount.

  58. Jaguar reloaded

I am not taking my words against Diaby, though he played well the other day.Though its imperative that he would come up with yet another clueless display against Bolton

  59. Steve Biko

Michael Silvestre has signed for Werder Bremen. LOL. They sell Ozil and get tweety? LOL. Does that club have any ambition?

  60. km

Lyon are not like Arsenal. They are not cheapskates or short of money. They buy expensive players and sell them at a v.good profit.

  61. Grimandi

    Stu,

I think it was between Chamak and Diaby, lets face it you need about 4 players marking him, samba is like Peter crouch on steroids..

  62. Pedro

Jaguar, I didn’t think Diaby was that good against Blackburn. He was beaten in the air a number of times and I thought he was sloppy.

  63. Gooneroo

    Can someone answer this please:
If AW has been looking at Schwarzer, he feels that MS is better than what we have. And if he only offered 2-3 million for him, what does he consider the price of our GK’s???

  64. Steve Biko

    Stu

Diaby marked Samba in the earlier set pieces before Chamakh came on. I love Chamakh’s manhandling at set pieces. I would love to see Drogba manhandled.

  65. Grimandi

    Pedro,

He was one of our best players against Blackburn, every player looses the ball at some stage in 90 mins, but overall he was good.

  66. RGG

Swartzer will sign today, I’m sure. He’ll be far more commanding in his penalty box but whether he’s as good a shot-stopper as what we’ve got, well I’m not convinced. We’ll probably be screaming for another keeper by Xmas!

  67. kc

Preach on Geoff! New Keeper today = silver won this season. Scouring around blogs last night I found an ubsurd amount of fans claiming Almunia is a new man and should be our #1. WTF?! So Al manages to get thru 3 games without a major error and apparently sum fans suffer memory loss. Please oh Please Arsene bring us a quality GK today! I won’t ask for anything ever again.

  68. dennisdamenace

Chaps – Can anyone confirm whether the transfer deadline is 5pm or midnight?

Not that it makes a difference to our Book Keeper.

  69. Steve Biko

Apparently Alexander Hleb has turned down a move to Benfica in favour of a move to Birmingham. My only question is, I thought in moving away from us his agent claimed he did not like life in England? LOL

  70. Jaguar reloaded

Kols****ny was shit, just like his name.Certain that Drogba would shove him off if he comes up against Drogba.

  71. Fatboy

As bad as Barca?! Balls say I!

If MS doesn’t come then I don’t buy into the idea it is the end of the world.

Almunia has been very professional about a difficult situation and I assume he will play his heart out to prove his doubters wrong.

He isn’t a great keeper and MS would perhaps bring a little more solidity but £4 mill is a more than fair price and if Fulham don’t sell because of not having a replacement then that’s that.

I still think we can win with Almunia – he had a few mares last season but his malaise is not as bad as many have painted it. He was our keeper during the 07-08 season and we would have won that but for a little fairness from the heavens.

  72. Grimandi

    Pedro,

You are right about him playing better and I think the Villa game last year comes to mind, but he battled well only thing he didnt do was to score.

  73. Jaguar reloaded

Fabregas was the second worst player on the pitch.Wasnt interested at all.Why wouldnt he be pissed off knowing that the retard of our manager wouldnt buy anymore players.

  74. doyin

according to the telegraph..given is stayin at city..and we all know that the ALEX FERGUSON brought up devil MARK HUGHES will rather keep us waitin till he finds a replacement than allow MS go…(dont blame him sha..AW will do d same..
Also i strongly feel d deal will go through..coz i cant see MH workin with a want away MS..

  75. Jaguar reloaded

    Fatboy,were you dreaming.
Clownmunia is no more than a shit second choice GK.
We almost won tht title in 07-08 because we had a great team bar a decent goal keeper

  76. Stu

Almunia… Professional or just dozy. He seems like the type of person that doesnt give a shit because he doesnt fully understand, thats the impression his face gives anyway.

He is not good enough for a club our size, simple as that.

  77. dennisdamenace

Chamaktheknife ended up marking Samba in the second half, and did a sterling job of it, unlike the clueless Diaby who was lost time and time again, one of which was when Fab4 cleared off the line…..

Like DG said, technically excellent, but fucking clueless bordering on lazy.
