Let Jack go…

by & filed under Uncategorized.

So, Geoff is away for the weekend so I have a free reign of Le Grove!

I’ll start the post with the news that Owen Coyle wants Jack Wilshere back on loan next season and he reckons he can move Jack’s game on another level. It’s hard to know where to stand on this one. The kid is only 18 years old and the chances of him featuring heavily for Arsenal next year seem slim. For me the important question that needs to be answered is this.

What is going to benefit Arsenal more in the long run?

In my opinion half the problem we have with our youth players is that they don’t appreciate what they have until it’s gone, or until they’re plying their trade at some middle of the road championship club. undoubtedly Jack Wilshere has the talent to be whatever he wants in the game, but then again, so did Quincy. What’s going to make Jack a world beater in the long-term is his attitude. For me, going to a solid club like Bolton will do him Wanderers. He’ll get more games next season, he’ll be playing with experienced journeymen and he’ll truly appreciate Arsenal by the time the season is over.

Hey… he might even bulk up!

Despite Owen Coyle regularly embarrassing himself with his now finely honed ability to make a complete tit of himself, you can’t deny his talent for getting the best out of players and creating a half decent style of football. I think sending him out on loan also sends out the right message to rest of the kids… it doesn’t matter how good you think you are, getting into the Arsenal first team is not a right… it’s an honour.

Arsenal are too wealthy these days to mess around bedding in players for 3 seasons. The only players that should go into our first team are the players that are ready to hit the ground running. If you’re not ready, you can go and play for a club where cutting your teeth and making errors is acceptable and less costly to the outcome of a season.

I don’t want to read Arsenal fans getting on the back of Jack Wilshere this season in the same way we have done with Theo. Both aren’t ready for the Arsenal first team at the moment and personally, I think Arsene’s insistence on kicking players in at the deepend can have damaging effects on a player long-term. Hopefully Theo will recover, hopefully Jack will go out on loan, shine with some sparkling performances and by the time he joins the first 11 the season after, he is ready to guide us to a successful season!

Arsenal have got to create a winning mentality around the first team squad again. Winning a major trophy has to be the only acceptable outcome of a season. Having players who will die for the cause should be on of the main criteria our scouts look for in a player.

I think we’ve got that in Vermaelen and I’m hoping we’ve got that in Kozzer.

If we went out and signed Melo, which judging by Wenger’s past comments is a definite possibility, I’d feel pretty confident going into the coming season!

Things are starting to look up at Arsenal. If the boss beats the summer for the first time in 5 years, we could be in for a hugely exciting 2010/11 season!

Yeah Stu, I can’t see the Dutch league becoming better or even on par with the prem, nor any Dutch teams becoming the best in Europe anytime soon. Is he a Feyenoord fan?

  2. Chris beef

Agree Marko about ramsey he was just starting to look like a first teamed when it happened. feel very sorry for the lad

  3. Cesc

Did rvp grow up in feynerood? if he did he probaly is a feynerood fan but there was a pic somewere of him young wearin an arsenal top

  4. Stu

He didnt want to leave Feyenord, that much i do know. He left because he wasnt getting any respect from the older players or something. I doubt he will want to go back there anyway, unless its like Gio or Tomasson when his career is effectively over.

  5. Big Dave

We need a box to box midfeilder, can only see a keeper and cb to come in, unless AW pulls a surprise out the hat for us, luv surprise signings

  6. Gooby

    RvP is fucking class!

we have world class talents in

    RVP
    cesc
    arshavin
    verm’s

hope we add a keeper and a midfielder, i’d like khedira. big, strong, and can play the pretty footie, he got the technique
i’d kill denilson for this one

    what an exciting semi-final!

end to end stuff – no team held back. i really enjoyed this match

    Muller as usual is fantastic

I felt the German lacked the hunger/edge which they had before because lets face it…they’r playing for 3rd place which isn’t much but they still got it

Forlan left his mark on the world cup – what an amazing player – he all but carried Uruguay to the semi’s…he was one of the main factors why this South American team done so well. He scored a gr8 goal imo one of the best i’v seen in this world cup.
He will be remembered – what a talent!

Germany have such an amazing future. so many young stars and they’r playing well as a team

Ozil although brilliant reminds me of Arshavin…. doesn’t put in 100% all the time..if he was under a coach like Fergie/Mourinho he’d be twice the player he is. Imo Muller not as naturally gifted as Ozil but is more effective because he is willing to graft and run himself into the ground for the cause whereas Ozil is a luxury player who turns up now and then with a few moments of brilliance in a match. I still think he needs another year in Germany before he flies the nest to a big league

  8. km

i think Chamakh will be our Muller – not as talented as RvP/Arshavin but will be the one who puts in 110%

  9. km

agree with previous comments there is no-one out there atm good enough to replace because he is the centre of gravity of our team…everything goes through him.

The only player who could do 75% of the job of Cesc (play intelligently) and be available imo is Hamsik the lad is mature beyond his years – a bit like Cesc however Honda would also be a good option

Ozil for me is not ready…he’d be good on the Left wing if we didnt have Arshavin

  10. Stu

C’mon, everyone is suggesting Honda as a potential cesc replacement when they dont even play in the same position. Cesc is an AM at the furthest whereas Honda is very much a forward who shouldnt be played in the middle of any midfield.

Also, KM, its impossible that anyone give 110% because you cant give more than you have ;)

  11. km

    Re. Chamakh

the guy is a bit like Rooney, in the sense he will give his all for the cause nd just does not give up

Signing Honda would be like when Utd signed poborsky, based 99% on world cup performance.

CERTAINLY not a cesc replacement, maybe worth taking a punt on in general, as a talented player, but no way we could put that much on his shoulders, or expect him to come in and influence games anything like cesc did.

  14. Stu

Well you must be talking about the old rooney because last seasons one was all about tap ins and being on the end of things rather than chasing the ball when he loses it like he did when Ronaldo played CF.

  15. km

but if Cesc goes who would replace him??

I honestly dnt think Ozil is at that level—although he is more mobile/faster and can beat a man

would Wenger hand the baton to Nasri and get Joe Cole in to rotate with him?

  16. km

    STU

whatever Rooney did/does…i just want to point that Chamakh will a hard worker in our forward line…chasing down lose balls and hassling defenders with his pace and aerial ability

  17. A

Cesc won’t go, but if he did then I reckon it’d be one of Nasri, Wilshere, Ramsey when back, or Gourcuff coming in

  18. A

Not at all km, it isn’t like he’s desperate to go etc.

He’ll stay, and he’ll give just as much as he did last season, and be just as good if not better!

Though there’s likely to be a world cup hangover, which I’m sure people will (incorrectly) attribute to the Barca interest.

Same with VP, not likely to start with all guns blazing

  19. Stu

I have no doubt that Chamakh wil be a hard worker but im sceptical that he will live up to the reputation he is being given ie non stop runner who is always after the defenders (not you specifically giving him this KM).

I read that when Blanc took over at Bordeaux he told Chamakh to go easy onj the workrate and to focus more on attacking and the following season was his best in terms of goals. I doubt he just stopped working but he wont be a Flamini up front or like Tevez on crack.

  20. A

Yeah I agree KM, and he might even start there for the first few games with Cesc on the bench, to come on if necessary, try and give Cesc an extended rest after the world cup

  21. km

the emirates cup definately be interesting because wenger will have done his shopping by then

ok lads – time to sleep

hope the final is as good as 2nite’s game ;)

  22. Stu

Was wondering about that A. Just 3 weeks off isnt a lot of time. Isnt the point of pre season to get the players back to their physical peak after (usually) about 6 weeks without much physical activity? As in restarting the players after their time off.

3 weeks is such little time, will VP and Cesc have even recovered fully, ready to restart with all their basics again?

If the 6 weeks is to let the players bodies rest and any injuries heal then surely half that time would mean those 2 only half rest and heal.

  23. A

It certainly isn’t ideal Stu, but it’s what happens after world cup/euro years, which is why the players and managers complain about it!

They won’t be as rested as with six weeks off, but won’t be that much less rested than everyone else in the world cup.

It should be a big big plus for us that we’ll have Vermy, Koscielny, Denilson, Nasri, Rosicky, Theo, Arshavin, Chamakh all fully rested and raring to go, which must be more than most big teams.

  24. A

Yeah night KM, not sure about having finished shopping by emirates cup time, still a month of transfer window after that! Hopefully will snap up Schwarzer, another centre back, and maybe even Joe Cole very soon though, perhaps over the next week, before we fly out to Austria

  25. Pat

Anyone hear Lorik Cana went to Galatasaray?

Song was their first choice, but after we rejected their bid they went for Cana.

  26. MickyDidIt89

I would much rather the Joe Cole wages be spent elsewhere. And good morning all. Desparately hope Spain score first for the sake of the game and that we get a five goal epic.
    Then monday….shops open!

  27. SUGA3

to be honest, Joe Cole would probably command as much in wages as Honda and Hazard combined, plus, his fitness is questionable…

however, we would probably get a slightly better ride with the refs if we had a few more Englishmen ;)

  28. SUGA3

and that’s why we shouyld consider bringing in an English CB as well, problem is, there are no left footers around…

so I guess Sakho could be a good buy, leaving us with two partnerships:

    LK-TV
    JD-MS

a bit light experience wise, but hey…

  29. MickyDidIt89

Suga3: morning. Plus, with Cole there is no re-sale value, whereas both Honda and Hazard could well be great investments. If you want to look at these things that way.

  30. Lurch LeRouge

    morning grovers.

Agreed, I’m not fussed with JC either even if Cesc does FO. Muller code himself in glory last night, as did forlan. Shame we couldn’t see more of Neuer, must have been talking to wenger about signing!

  31. MickyDidIt89

Happy with that Sakho/Subotic type of buy. Problem is, with any CB coming in, they know that with K getting the No6 shirt, then they will be squad player.
Don’t go with that ref thing. Not getting at you here Suga3, but it winds me up with some Grovers banging on about the “nobody loves us, its so unfair, they all love Utd” bullshit. Stop moaning, I say to them. You make your own luck. Get on with it. It is a spoilt Chav attitude that says we have a “right” to win.

  32. SUGA3

morning Micky, how rude of me ;)

to be honest, I would like the management to consider resale value a little less – why not want players to stay for life?

current club legends, not reheating old glories, is where the marketing potential is: few million earned from transfers will not outweigh the income gained thanks to being perceived as a massive club where the players stay forever…

  33. SUGA3

    Micky,

my point always was that if the refs don’t give you protection, you have to address the problem rather than moan about it – and I don’t care if it will be by bringing in Vieiraesque monsters or more Englishmen, really…

well, on the second thought, I think I would rather have the former – ‘payback time, shitkickers’

  34. Lurch LeRouge

I think AW just doesn’t like buying older established players, he wants to avoid their egotism and be kingmaker. The resale agenda is just a smokesscreen for us and the press as it’s aligned with the fiscal policy.

  35. MickyDidIt89

Suga3; I know where you are coming from. It just pisses me off that the flip side is that we could’nt afford Ronaldo and Torres, whereas with the re-sale element, then you certainly could have. I certainly agree with you about maybe having a spine of Mr Arsenals. London born and bred. Gooner blood.

  36. SUGA3

as for the refs giving us a bit of unfair ride: our success coincides with having absolutely shit disciplinary record and I don’t think we were playing like fucking Bolton these days, were we?

  37. SUGA3

    Lurch,

AW is somewhat weak at handling ‘characters’ and this is exactly what the established players are…

plus, with debt to pay off, Arse had to focus on short term financial gain in bundles, hence the player sales – now that we have the short term loans sorted, we should focus on costly PR work IMO…

plus, no more training camp in Austria bollocks – USA, Asia and all that will not bend over to buy Arse merchandise if all they see is ManYoo, Chavs and Pool…

  38. SUGA3

club like Arsenal will simply not survive on die hards alone – take me for an example: I am pretty fed up with lack of ambition, but I will die a Gooner and I will continue going to games and buying club’s merchandise, because I am a stupid Arsenal junkie

if Arsenal came calling with a ST offer (one with my name on it), I would probably blow a hole in my credit card balance as well – for the time being, I will continue going to odd games

btw, just got this redcurrant ‘captain’ training top, very nice…
