So, Geoff is away for the weekend so I have a free reign of Le Grove!

I’ll start the post with the news that Owen Coyle wants Jack Wilshere back on loan next season and he reckons he can move Jack’s game on another level. It’s hard to know where to stand on this one. The kid is only 18 years old and the chances of him featuring heavily for Arsenal next year seem slim. For me the important question that needs to be answered is this.

What is going to benefit Arsenal more in the long run?

In my opinion half the problem we have with our youth players is that they don’t appreciate what they have until it’s gone, or until they’re plying their trade at some middle of the road championship club. undoubtedly Jack Wilshere has the talent to be whatever he wants in the game, but then again, so did Quincy. What’s going to make Jack a world beater in the long-term is his attitude. For me, going to a solid club like Bolton will do him Wanderers. He’ll get more games next season, he’ll be playing with experienced journeymen and he’ll truly appreciate Arsenal by the time the season is over.

Hey… he might even bulk up!

Despite Owen Coyle regularly embarrassing himself with his now finely honed ability to make a complete tit of himself, you can’t deny his talent for getting the best out of players and creating a half decent style of football. I think sending him out on loan also sends out the right message to rest of the kids… it doesn’t matter how good you think you are, getting into the Arsenal first team is not a right… it’s an honour.

Arsenal are too wealthy these days to mess around bedding in players for 3 seasons. The only players that should go into our first team are the players that are ready to hit the ground running. If you’re not ready, you can go and play for a club where cutting your teeth and making errors is acceptable and less costly to the outcome of a season.

I don’t want to read Arsenal fans getting on the back of Jack Wilshere this season in the same way we have done with Theo. Both aren’t ready for the Arsenal first team at the moment and personally, I think Arsene’s insistence on kicking players in at the deepend can have damaging effects on a player long-term. Hopefully Theo will recover, hopefully Jack will go out on loan, shine with some sparkling performances and by the time he joins the first 11 the season after, he is ready to guide us to a successful season!

Arsenal have got to create a winning mentality around the first team squad again. Winning a major trophy has to be the only acceptable outcome of a season. Having players who will die for the cause should be on of the main criteria our scouts look for in a player.

I think we’ve got that in Vermaelen and I’m hoping we’ve got that in Kozzer.

If we went out and signed Melo, which judging by Wenger’s past comments is a definite possibility, I’d feel pretty confident going into the coming season!

Things are starting to look up at Arsenal. If the boss beats the summer for the first time in 5 years, we could be in for a hugely exciting 2010/11 season!

    Why not a 6 month loan and bring him back in January for the business end of the season. Jack the lad is gonna be quality in like 2-3 years or who knows he could even come along quicker much like Ramsey.

    I think Wenger is trying to solve our defensive problems on the cheap. I’m guessing Koscielny is only on 20 thousand per week because he was only on 3 thousand per week in France. We also got rid of Gallas,Silvestre and Senderos so that saves us maybe 200 thousand per week. I think Wenger will buy another defender nobody has heard of just so he save on wages. Are arsenal really this tight? I really cant see us challenging next season,especially when our rivals are going to add quality signings

    £10 mil for a centre back is a long way from being “on the cheap” Tom Tom

    He’s the second most expensive defender Wenger has bought since he joined the club, after Vermy….

    He’ll be on a good £30-40k or so if he’s going to be at least competing for the first team straight away.

    We know we’ve made bids for Jagielka too, so one would imagine that the other centre back who comes in will be a similar quality/price.

    I really dont think we will get Jagielka,I know its hard to find really good centre backs but its not looking good when we sign players from Lorient. I thought Vermy was disappointing towards the end of last season and thats where quality players show how good they are. We will play preety football but come february i think we will drop off bacause we have a poor squad and no experienced quality players,hate to say it but i think its been the same the last 5 years

    First of all, I’m hoping for the day we see Lansbury, Eastmond, Ramsey, Wilshere and Gibbs play together on the pitch.

    Secondly, our main concern should be to have a backup plan when we face teams with strong counterattacks, and I believe the way to go in that case is to continue to strengthen our defence.

    I would also like this extended this policy to players like Nasri, Diaby and Rosický when they go through their crap can’t be bothered to try 100% periods. A 6 month loan to a crap team might wake them up and make them want to play for the arse again lol

    I have been lucky enough to tour Oz a couple of times.

    A wonderful country/continent. :-) It’s difficult to pick any one place as the best, so you are right to be proud of it.

    Fact is, many people over here have family links to Oz, like me, and think well of you, or, to be honest, the others don’t really give a stuff.

    My impression was that many folk in places Sidney, a fantastic city, seem to be of asian descent and couldn’t give a stuff about the “old country” either.

    I still find it hilarious some people complain of us taking a chance on a 10 million player. With the prices in the market these days thats really not taking a chance is it? I mean some players out there are being priced at 20 million plus and they’re not that good, look at Cahill he hasn’t even played for England yet couldn’t hack it at Villa and now Bolton hear of Interest and value him at 25 million. For doing what? I suppose Curtis Davies and Zat Knight are 20 million players too. Unbelievable really.

    English players, and Man City prices are different from others, and way above the player’s actual value.

    Paying £10 mil for a centre back like Koscielny is a lot of money though, and there really must be something that Wenger likes alot in him that would persuade him to splash that sort of cash.

    People talking about 10 million on Koscielny being too much when these days unfortunately 10 million is nothing. A lot of clubs buy shit for more than that. Lets look at Hazard for example, you could probably get him for 15-18 million and that would be what he’s worth as he’s promising but isn’t the finished article yet at 18/19 years old. Then you take Balotelli who at 19 years of age, inconsistent and hasn’t personally achieved anything yet but is promising none the less and Inter are looking for 40 million for him. Crazy world we live in. In a perfect World he’d be worth 10 million maybe 15.

I mean it probably is for us what with the penny pinching on the stadium an all but it has to be assumed that these days if we pay 10 million on a player that he has something to offer us ala Vermaelen. He’s more than likely going to be a Vermaelen rather than a Cygan cause we can’t really afford to take chances on shit players whereas when we bought Cygan we were in a position where we could take chances.

    £10 mil is alot for us, and every other team that actually works within it’s means, or is funded as it should be, rather than the likes of Inter, Madrid, Barca, Chelsea, City etc who aren’t self-funded but have sugar daddy types, or local banks who will just pump more and more money into them.

    People talk about prices going up but in general they’ve stayed really quite static for a good few years, except in the exceptional cases

    On Melo while I’d take him for his passing ability and his defensive work even though the guy’s a mental case and a liability I’d still rather Inler from Udinese. He was immense against Spain and is the type of box to box midfielder who likes to tackle that we need alongside Song in front of the back 4. But with Udinese losing D’agostino, Quaglirealla (?), Pepe and possibly losing Asamoah and Sanchez would they let Inler go too? Or is it a fire sale? If it is take Inler, Zapata and Handanovic and we’d be champions.

    Dutchman there’s noone in that midfield who could control the play at all, I’d much much rather have Nasri in there, or a fit Ramsey, or maybe even Wilshere!

    Joe Cole isn’t the sort of player who could play that role for us, we’d struggle for ball retention in the midfield with those three

    He’s not on Cesc’s level certainly, but with a proper pre season under his belt he should be able to really kick on this season, which i’m sure he would’ve last season if it wasn’t for his broken leg early on.

    How so A? Muller and Lampard are nothing alike imo. Muller is athletic and full of running while being able to beat most fullbacks and link up very well. Lampard doesnt have the ability to beat anyone 1v1, is all about arriving at the right time to score and shoots a lot. Aside from that they play different positions.

    Anyone know why Badstuber isnt playing for Germany? He started their first match but hasnt played since (i think). And Jansen left midfield when they have Marin who plays there and Trochowski too. Not sure about Cacau either. They have Gomez and Kiessling who are both better imo.

    Muller is a goalscoring midfielder, very solid, good shot with either feet, and composed on the ball, despite not having the same vision of a player like cesc.

    Muller plays slightly further forward than Lampard, but I’d expect him to move a bit further back as time goes on.

    I agree that he is a bit quicker than Lampard though, and as you say can beat a man one on one more, although he’s still not a big dribbler

    I disagree A. Lampard could play CM, Muller is much more of an attacker and although he plays centrally for Bayern its his pace and dribbling ability that allows him to be so effective out wide for Germany.

    Yeah Stu, but they do have similar attributes. Lampard started deeper and moved a bit further forwards, Muller started further forwards, and I expect him to end up a bit deeper, in a similar sort of role.

I think the only keepers in this tournament who have come out very well are Handanovic and Neuer. That Dutch keeper is dodge, so too Marchetti, Begnaglio needs someone to take his kick outs.     After that i would sign Schweinstiger because he is fucking class but he isnt really a box to box player which is really what we want between Cesc and Song.

    Neuer though is only in cause Adler got injured. I’d give my left nut for Mertesacker or Subotic, Handanovic and Inler. We’d win big with them added to our current squad.

    Khedira has been class… he’d be the perfect Holding midfielder to allow Cesc and Nasri to create in the midfield. He is apparently out of contract next summer. Probably would cost about 10-12 mill. Unless shity come in and pay 25mill

    Khadira also had Schweinstiger sitting in front of the defence. He wasnt the only defensive player in Germanys midfield. It was well worked out though that one of the 2 stays back while the other goes forward.

    Ideally we cant afford to lose cesc, if we have any aspirations of winning the league this season. Any if Wenger was going to sell him he would have left by now.

    Well if anything this tournament has showed how important it is to keep Fabregas at Arsenal cause all of the so called replacements or alternatives like Hamsik, Gourcuff, Affellay (even though he hasn’t been given much game time), Pastore haven’t impressed or in the case of Gourcuff, who lots like, have been shite. Ozil has been the only one to impress but you’d still have Cesc over him.

    Gourcuff wouldnt be able to adapt at arsenal, he struggled at Milan and thats alot slower than the EPL.
    I think Wenger has talked cesc round to stay this year. And he will see how we do this year.

    Good player but until he does something he is always on the periphery. Cesc has the uncanny ability to be ‘connected’ to the game for the full 90 minutes.

    Very few have that consistency and ability at his age. If we have serious designs on winning anything, Cesc is central to that.

    Really a massive shame poor old Ramsey got that fucking injury cause in the short time he’s been with us even the dumbest football fan could tell he was getting better and better and better with each game, even a mate a die hard United fan said to me last season Ramsey was looking brilliant. He was becoming destined to be as good or potentially better than Cesc and he had a couple years on him. Just hope he comes back having not lost anything in his locker.

    Marko, dont judge a player, any player, on international performances. Saying Gourcuff, Hamsik etc arent good enough because they showed it at the WC is ridiculous because players perform differently in different curcumstances. How else can you explain england being so shit?

    Lampard, 20 goals a season regularly for chelsea but never looked like scoring at the WC (regardless of his goal that wasnt) and the same with lots of players.

    Gourcuff didn’t make it at Milan because the team was built around Kaka, not because he wasn’t good enough or couldn’t handle the pace of the game….

    I’d love him at Arsenal, though I doubt it’ll happen, especially not if Cesc doesn’t go anywhere, would be amazing if Cesc stayed and Gourcuff game in anyways!

    I hear ya Stu but maybe we should judge Gourcuff on not being able to hack it at Milan. But the flipside of that is some of us on here regularly judge a player on say he’s just back from injury or he’s just had an inconsistant season. On Lampard I think the likes of him, Gerrard and Ferdinand have gone down a level or in the latter two’s cases a couple of levels.

    I mean he’s a good player I’m just making a point that if we’re replacing Cesc with Gourcuff then we’re not gonna be better but worse of. He also picks up niggly injuries has well. Ozil is probably the only serious option really, Affellay is more of a winger. A shame Italian football and Juventus fucked Diego up and set him back a couple years cause he was super looking a couple years back.
