Good move Arsenal, probably our only world class move this summer.

by & filed under Uncategorized.

Yes I’m talking about the clock, still at least we’ll know what the time is!

Some reports suggest that Joe Cole is on his way, and in order to balance the books we’ll need to sell Rosicky and Eduardo. What claptrap, Gallas has gone, Senderos has gone, Merida has gone, Simpson and Silvestre are going, blimey if that hasn’t cut the wage bill, I don’t know what will.

Rosicky would be a stupid sale, he is as good as Cole so it makes no point, as proved by yesterdays injury scare to Robin, he is made of glass and whilst fantastic, he will be out for long periods next season, of that there is no doubt.

Which is why Joe Cole is such a good buy, he can take it in turns to be on the treatment table with the other fragile players in the team, Cesc, Eduardo, Rosicky, Walcott, Diaby, Denilson and Robin.

So, the clock is going back in the South bank, and they are reintroducing the North Bank, that’s good, it may bring some of the old songs back, and I can feel I am back in the old North bank Highbury!

I also read that we are thinking about a part ex with Juve for Melo and Clichy, no, not they pay us, we pay them, ha, ha, we aren’t that stupid surely? No thanks, I’ll keep Gael thanks.

Gaff strewn Clichy or Gaff strewn Melo plus cash??? That’s a no brainer, and I really like Clichy.

Only Uruguay  left from South America and no one left from Africa, get in there Europe! I watched the Germans destroy Argentina, Germany my tip (in that game) were awesome, it was worth it to watch fat boy cheat Maradona’s face! I will stick by Holland though as they are still my tip for the trophy.

It was great to see such free flowing football with great finishing, Arsene maybe you should go shopping there instead of your favoured France.

That Mueller bloke was how I was hoping Randall would go, sadly he hasn’t moved in the 3 years I’ve watched him, it’s a shame Arsene wasn’t watching the under 21′s last year, all this mob were there on show.

That for me is why you have reserves, so you can pick your first team from them, natural progression, England don’t and we don’t, still after watching this world cup, and in particular the Germans, maybe things will change and Arsenal will go back to buying top players and not furniture for the new stadium. Don’t hold your breath though.

Anyone notice the empty seats yesterday? What a shambles.

Have a great day Grovers, the sun is shining and the world cup will soon be at an end.

dude do relly think pantsil is pants then u probably did not watch the game between fulham and chelsea… he screwed dogpoos head like anything jus did not give him any space and was very good and reliable in the world cup as well…. jus bcoz he is in a shit team does not mean he is a shit player

  2. Stu

We should buy Philip Lahm IF we are to buy a new right back. Havent been that impressed with VDW so far and his cunting agent said he would only move to Barca (not that an agent is to be believed).

  3. zeus

Denilson is a slow midget which isn’t necessarily a problem. The problem is on top of that he is weak and surrounded by other slow midgets so he is easily run over.

Hoping Henri Lansbury gets ahead of him this season. At least he isn’t afraid to play the damn ball forward. It must be some sick joke that Denilson can get a special player work permit and yet we have to wait 3 years for Vela and what looks another 3 years for Galindo.

  4. gambon

The last position we need to buy is RB, we have 2 perfectly good RBs.

We can start worrying about that position once we have signed 2 CBs, a GK, a DM, a LB, a RW & LW.

  5. terry

who would not want lahm…hahah .. but every one knows we wont buy him or pantsil.. coz wenger loves sagan…and even sagna is commited to the club…

  6. Queen of suburbia

I don’t think you can blame le-grove for made up stories six-pacc. It’s more likely just a blogger says it and it becomes accepted. Like the 130m to spend myth.

Bit of speculation here, bit of exaggeration there and before you know it it’s unassailable proof that wenger must be fired!

  7. terry

we dont have a decent left winger and have never been linked with one…arshain is not a left winger

  8. gambon

    Stu

Yeah, but for balance in the squad it would be good to have a natural lefty, obviously to play understudy to Arshavin.

I have a sneaky feeling Wenger is tempted to bid for Honda.

  9. Stu

You know Wenger wont buy a left footed left winger because he likes out wide players cutting in and tbh i like it that way too.

Arshavin on the left wouldnt be a problem if CLichy could cross properly when he overlaps.

  10. Stu

And anyway, Arshavin has enough ability to be able to cross with his left foot. It just so happens that we, as a team in general, rarely cross unless its the fullbacks. Get the fullbacks crossing accurately and who plays on the wing wouldnt even be an issue.

And anyway, if we did get a left footed winger then where would Arshavin play? He isnt a proper winger so having him on the right would be pointless as he always comes inside anyway and being on the right he would have to play any potential through balls with his left.

  11. Keyser

The full backs are decent going forward, just not spectacular, because of the lack of consistency and our defensive frailty in midfield they were asked to reign in how far they they overlap, both put decent crosses in when they can overlap and run onto through balls.

They just don’t sit out wide and whip in crosses from static positions.

Also our strikers have to work on how they make themselves availble for these crosses, like Van Persie’s tried to make the near post run more often, Sagna and him, though a bit lucky, linked up well for the goals against Tottenham.

  12. terry

even i love the way we play …t he players cutting in from the left and right is awsum… but now since we have chamak… and even nikki b… we need players who can cross the ball… and even to play a 442 combination we cannot play arshavin on the left… there need to be a good left footed winger… i would rather have elia than joe cole for that very reason

  13. Queen of suburbia

    Almunia Is useless
    Fabianski is flappy
Sagna ok defensively shit at crosses
    Verminator had a shit season
The Koss one good season totally unproven probably a shit buy
Clichy is shit at defending and crossing
    Diaby lazy and shit
    Denilson too weak passes backwards
    Fabregas turncoat bastard
    Nasri fat ponce
    Arshavin fat and lazy
    Rvp a crock
    Lansbury overrated
    Chamackh shit signing

    Have I missed anyone?

Oh yes wengker! He’s a cunt.
    Walcott useless overpaid

  14. Stu

lol Terry. You prefer Elia over Cole even though both are right footed?

And Arshavin on the left of a 4-4-2 combination is never going to happen because we play 4-3-3.

  15. Keyser

What do you mean ability ? I don’t think there are many fullbacks who whip in Beckhamesque crosses in the league. Neither of Evra or Cole do that especially, they usually either cut in and play in balls across the defence or to the touchline and whip in the low dangerous crosses.

Both of them are pretty decent when they’re allowed to run onto balls behind the defence or into some semblance of space.

Both have suffered because of the lack of communication in the team.

  16. terry

rosicky is done with is injuries and we want him out… this is bullshit… i would love him to continue playing for us coz he is one of the best in the world… and probably the only one who can replace cecs…

  17. David

I agree the rest is pretty Accurate.

Verminator had the greatest first season ever!

    Lets hope he’s not a one-hit wonder.

    Lansbury cant be over-rated.

He has to be rated first.

  18. terry

elia is a left winger .. he is fukin awsum… and whats so great about cole… rosicky when fully fit far better than cole

  19. zeus

    Stu

Of course Galindo s gong out on loan to spain. And unless his work permit issues can be fast tracked like Denilson’s was, he will be out in Spain for 3 years before he gets his Eu workers permit.

  20. David

    terry

We didnt see enough of Rosicky at the end of the season.

Was it because of Injuries? Or was it becuz he’s not good enough?

  21. terry

it was his fitness for sure… he wasent injured… he jus wasent fully fit… did u see what happned to eddy after his injury… he looks very slow… and rosicky seemed to gettin tired very fast… after all he was injured and it takes time for a player to be fully fit once again… mark my words he will be the man to watch next season…..

  22. gambon

    Blimey,

Wolfsburg are no better than Palermo.

If Wenger sees Koscielny as a starter then surely Kjaer would be a good squad option?

Surely the fact that we arent after him means we have someone lined up?

  23. Stu

Terry, Elia being a left winger doesnt automatically make him left footed. Which is what you suggested he was when you said you prefered him over Cole.

  24. Queen of suburbia

I also missed eddie he of course should be sold, although you must say this sadly.
Rosicky is crocked and probably wasn’t that good in the first place.
    Johan is also a crock.

  25. Stu

Rosicky, like Eduardo, has dramatically dropped his performance levels this season. When he came bac against Man City he was suprisingly fantastic but after a few weeks back in the team he just seemed to be doing nothing.

He IS a top class player when on form but he isnt on form nearly enough. I would rather him stay as a back up option but if he left it wouldnt be the worst thing.

  26. Queen of suburbia

All youth players can handily be described as overpaid, will never make it, don’t have the right attitude and have been given too much too soon.

  27. David

Im guessing Eduardo, Rosicky, Bendtner and Johan were too shite to make your original list in the first place.

Even Denilson got an early mention

  28. gambon

Rosicky just isnt a wide player at all, and is way down the pecking order at number 10.

He should be let go IF we sign a wide player, but i dont mind if he stays.

Eduardo is probably just surplus to requirements with Chamakh coming in, and one of him or Vela will have to go. Long term neither of them will be Arsenal players.

  29. Stu

Not Jack Collison QoS. How much was he on? 5k a week or something. A lot for the average person obviously but for a footballer its nothing.

  30. David

    No point in that QOS

If we didnt have a moan there would be much to talk about.

Cant sit pretty happy with the inactivity of the summer.

Or should we still be ecstatic about the signing of Chamakh?

  31. E12 GUNNER

Stuey, what do you think of this lad?

    —–STEKELENBURG—–
    SAGNA—KOSCIELNY—TV—GIBBS
    THEODORE—HAZARD–OZIL—ELIA
    —CHAMAKH–VP–

  32. gambon

    David

Some fans buy into the whole “3rd is a trophy” talk, therefore they cant help moaning when people moan about whats going on on the pitch.

  33. Queen of suburbia

I’ve yet to see a point in you David but I tolerate you all the same ;-)

It’s well past moaning, all of those comments are regularly said on here, it’s not a moan when it’s insert phrase from above followed by a dozen acolytes repeating it as fact.

The point is not one of those phrases is actually true.

  34. Stu

There is some truth to some of them QoS.

You did just make up the Vermaelen and Lansbury ones though. Vermaelen had a great debut season and Lansbury is rarely if ever discussed on here.

  35. gambon

    E12

4-4-2 is dead at the top level, you wont see us play it again for a long time.

Theo isnt a right winger, you’ve got hazard and ozil as central MFs.

Its just a bunch of very good attackers (and Theo) all thrown together.

What youve done is the equivalent of getting a Formula one car, putting in an engine, then another engine, then 2 turbos, then another engine – while forgetting the brakes.

That team would concede a shit load of goals.

  36. gambon

    Now if you’d said;

    Stekelenburg

    Sagna Koscielny Vermaelen Gibbs

    Song Ozil Melo

    Hazard RVP Elia

Now you’re talking. Obviously with Elia playing backup to Arshavin.

  37. gambon

    Pat

According to Palermo no-one else bid for him, so you have to question if anyone else really wanted him.

  38. E12 GUNNER

Gambon, I love that line up apart from Melo.Did you not see him score an OG and get sent off against Holland? He is a fucking liability FFS.

  39. A

E12 That wasn’t true, Spuds said they’d made no bid for either player, it was just made up to try and encourage bids for them

  40. A

Surprising Spurs havn’t signed anyone yet, would expect them to splash the cash with champs league qualification at stake

  41. Pat

So I was thinking who Ozil reminds me of and then it hit me.

He has the same style as Modric had before moving to Spurs, almost identical.

Modric played very well on the international stage and in the early stages of the CL, but has been a disappointment in England.

Wonder how Ozil would do, because Modric doesn’t/didn’t disappear as much during games.

  42. A

yeah E12, I wonder who it’ll be. Not seemed to have actually bidded for anyone yet, except for Joe Cole.

I guess Cole would constitute a marquee signing by Spurs signings

  43. A

I’m sure Redknapp wouldn’t use the term “marquee signing” though, even he isn’t dumb enough to use it!

That’s for the Madrid’s and City’s of this world, then they can unveil them in fashion show type things

  44. Stu

Modric a disappointment? He has been one of the spuds best and most consistent players. He doesnt score but if the heart of their team. Somewhat like Schweinstiger for Germany imo…

  45. A

I’d say he’s more like Hleb Stu. He doesn’t get many goals or assists, but alot of their play goes through him, and if you look at their goals he’s usually played some part in the move.

Sergio Ramos claiming that Cole and Gerrard are Madrid bound. Would be good for both of them, and England

  46. SlickBangGoal

Was twitter right now, and MC29 Just said,”Just saw Mark Schwarzer, didn’t know to high five him or hiss”

  47. A

    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=805954&sec=transfers&cc=5739

“We are a club that is always looking to improve by adding the best players in the world,” Ramos said in the Star. “We have a proven record of signing English players – with David (Beckham) and Michael (Owen) – and it would not surprise me at all if our two new arrivals this summer were English.

“Ashley Cole is a terrific player. For me, he is by far the best left back in the world and, along with Drogba, Chelsea’s best player.

“I am sure Chelsea will do all they can to keep him but he had a difficult year in England. A change might be what he is looking for. When a player is the best in his position in the world and doesn’t play for Real Madrid, you have to consider it a waste.

“He has done everything in England for Arsenal and Chelsea. It’s now time for him to come and win La Liga and the Champions League with Real Madrid and Jose Mourinho.

“Jose will know all about him. He has a history of signing players and trying to sign players from his previous clubs. More importantly, players seem to love playing under him.

“I spoke with Cristiano Ronaldo about him and he told me Cole is the toughest defender he has ever played against. That’s quite a compliment coming from the world’s best player and he is exactly the sort of player we want.”

He added: “I think Madrid’s admiration of Steven Gerrard is not a secret. He is at the point now where he needs to win things. I can guarantee that under this Real Madrid set-up he will win things. I really think both of them are Real Madrid-bound.”

  48. A

I’m confused gambon, Chamakh is on twitter, and said “Just saw Mark Schwarzer, didn’t know to high five him or hiss”?!

  49. A

I hope so E12, get Koscielny and Schwarzer out the way, then get going with (i guess) swapping Rosicky with Cole then sourcing and signing the second centre back, hopefully one who can play dm too

  50. gambon

I dont think its actually Chamakh.

Why would he be at the stadium / highbury house on a sunday? Hes not even in pre season training yet.

  51. Örebrogunner

Someone who thought about the irony yesterday. The German players had been talking shit about people from Argentina for a week. And then posed with the “Say no to racism” flag before the game!

  52. Stu

Yeah me too Pat. Dont see the point in swapping Cole for Rosicky. Cole isnt any better and it would take time for Cole to settle in.

  53. A

As do I Pat, although I’d say it’s pretty much like for like with Cole and Rosicky. Almost identical points in their career, positions, and abilities. Same concerns over their getting back to full fitness after long term injury too. Only thing is that Cole is English, so it’d free up another space for a foreign/over 21 player!

  54. Pat

But I wouldn’t mind keeping Rosicky and getting Cole. With our injury problems, we need all the players we can get

  55. gambon

    Its getting ridiculous

All the best players want to go to Chelsea, UTD, Barca & Real and no one else.

  56. A

I really hope we do get Schwarzer Pat, just one less thing to worry about, even if not something to get excited about.

Suarez if he leaves will go to a Chelsea, City, Inter or Madrid.

Utd won’t pay silly money anymore. Not sure whether chelsea will either to be fair, have to wait and see

  57. sixx pac

Anyone who wants Cole over Rosicky is mad. Rosicky is way better. Cole would only be signed cause he’s English

  58. A

and be a big risk pat.

Schwarzer is about right for me. If we can’t get an undeniably top quality keeper, and only really buffon fitted the bill imo, then someone who is proven as great at dealing with crosses and set pieces, and a very good organiser, used to the prem etc, is the next best thing.

Much rather have that than pretty much anyone from elsewhere in Europe, we’ve spent too long taking risks, and have too many players in the team already who are maybe players. Having some stability at the back, even if not spectacular, is ideal

  59. Stu

Balls to that A. You buy the best you can get, not the ones who have been playing in the prem longest.

What new player isnt a risk. Theres no quarentee that Schwarzer would fit in any better than anyone else.

Schwarzer for 3m or Eduardo for 4m. No brainer really.

  60. A

I agree Stu, no brainer, and Schwarzer every time.

You buy the best you can obviously, but we’ve got no idea how someone like Eduardo would be in the prem, whereas we know what schwarzer is like, and that’s reliable.

In EVERY other position pretty much we’ve got players we HOPE will become quality, and adapt to the prem, but havn’t proven it yet. I’d like just one position, and especially that position, where we take no risks, and get in some stability, and someone we can rely upon, who isn’t learning or having to adapt along with the rest of the team.

Schwarzer has been in the prem for that long, and has experienced and coped with all the rigours of the prem. Someone from outside the prem hasn’t, especially someone who’s only ever played in portugal

  61. Stu

Wenger had no problem buying Jens, who had never played in the prem. Yet he turned out alright didnt he. Schwarzer is the safe option, not the best one.

ANyway, i dont give a shit. i give up because you clearly wont…ever.

  62. A

Our biggest problem is organising the defence, and dealing with set pieces.

Getting in Schwarzer, who is 6’5, and a very good and experienced organiser, as well as being totally used to the prem, rather than getting in someone who’s portuguese, i’m guessing doesn’t speak English, and is 6’1 and has never played football outside of portugal, really is a no brainer to me….

  63. A

Stu the safe option right now IS the best option.

Buffon is no longer a possibility because of an operation, and unless Reina decides to jump ship there’s noone else proven at all.

Eduardo is imo a ridiculous shout, not what we need in the slightest!

Jens was a risk, but he’d proven alot more than Eduardo has, and was much more highly rated

  64. gambon

    Id prefer Scwartzer to Eduardo.

Dont forget that until our end of season collapse we had conceded the least shots on goal of any team in the PL.

  65. A

Imo the biggest difference to us keeper wise, if we can’t get one of the best around, ie Buffon or Reina, is someone who when teams just pump long balls into the box when we’re trying to hold on to a lead, or long throws, will be big, commanding, and take control of the situation. Exactly why I’d be very happy if we signed Schwarzer

  66. stonroy

this is way too close to pre season to be so unsure of who we have for next year. Bloody insanity.

  67. gambon

    Stonroy

It doesnt really matter, as long as theyre all signed by the first day of training.

If we get into August without signings i’ll agree.

  68. A

There isn’t a club in Europe who’s concluded all their transfer movements yet, very few who have even sorted the majority of them!

  69. GoonerJohn

schwarzer is defo an improvement on the clowns who are ridiculously playing between the sticks for the Arsenal.

we should get inhler, i know we won’t but he is just the type we need, he good on the ball and can play in the holding role if we need song at the back to cover injuries.

if we don’t sign another holding mid we should get 2 CB

  70. stonroy

I know. I just see City buying Silva and Toure (they can have that mercenary cunt. But I just know what Arsenal should be after. I mean David Villa wanted to play for us for christs sakes, instead we get Silvestre.

  71. Erichero

City have to be the exception – if you offer 28 million for a DM and tell him he can have 200k per week, who’s going to say no?

  72. A

We’ve already sorted Chamakh. If we snap up a Schwarzer and Koscielny tomorrow or Tues, then we’ll have gotten in three first team players incredibly early, be very good going! Then a couple of weeks to sort out another centre back, who can play DM too, and maybe Cole, and we’re sorted!

  73. A

well, claiming that we’ve been offered him….

wouldn’t make sense, someone who’s only really been first choice at a club in portugal for 2 1/2 years hasn’t he? and never played for anyone better than braga, only played 60 times for them, and is pretty small for a keeper

  74. Erichero

The way Wenger is talking, we might not get a keeper, so I’ll believe it when I see it. Having said that, it does seem that there was a serious offer for Schwarzer.

  75. stonroy

I think 100,000 per week is what an exceptional player should get. Arsenal will never compete with those amounts.

  76. Erichero

Every season Wenger signs a no-name-brand – Kos looks to be the one this time around. At least with Eduardo Silva we could see his goal scoring record and say wow, but with a defender it’s harder to measure.
