Arsenal new boy to be given a starring role on Wednesday?

by & filed under Uncategorized.

It seems to me that if Fabio and his team of prima donnas want to progress in this tournament, then he’ll have to unwrap Arsenal playmaker Joe Cole, the England team were hopeless against the mighty Algerians and to see Wayne trailer trash Rooney complaining at the fans was laughable. Then to see that twit William talking to Beckham and laughing at the angry fan really made my blood boil.

Beckham needs to move on, he’s had his day, he reminds me of Elizabeth Taylor, glammed up when she’s 50 years past it. William was there with his often pissed brother, having another free lunch, supporting England, yet a couple of months ago, that same twat was supporting the Welsh, what a scumbag.

And all three of them were recanting the story of the angry fan, the thing is, none of them have done a stroke in their lives and have no idea what it’s like to put your hand in your pocket and buy a ticket, I will bet everything I have that none one of those ponces paid for a ticket, their airfare or their accommodation. And I bet none of them has ever bought a round.

Freeloaders all three of them. And those boys are turning out just like their out of touch with reality parents, Beckham is just after a knighthood, what a laugh that is, a knighthood for winning nothing for his country.

ONLY IN GREAT BRITAIN EH!

Moving swiftly on, at least our English players won’t pick up any injuries, unless of course he plays Joe Cole, and if he is indeed an Arsenal player!

Song is another one on his way home, surprise that, Cameroon being one of those fancied to go through, good news there is, Bendtner scored a goal, maybe Real will come in with a big offer, if we sold him and Cesc, we could finally pay off our debt, then get into proper debt like everyone else!

Rumours have resurfaced we are after Vertonghen, Vermaelen’s old centre back partner from Ajax, to be honest, I’d prefer him to an unproven French Pole from a team that finished 7th.

What is clear though, apart from Ozil, no-one else’s price would have gone up at this world cup, get in there and get Hazard Arsene, nobody’s been after him.

Have a great day Grovers, today is fathers day, if you still have one, go and tell him you love him, if you are one, milk it, it only happens once a year, who knows, they may even buy you a pint!

Lahm plays right back now but he was always at left back because of Sagnol at Bayern and i cant remember who the old German right back was..think it was Friedrich, who plays CB now.

  2. gambon

I dont see how the FB argument is even relevant, we’re talking about CBs here, not full backs.

Vertonghen & Koscielny would be good business. That would give us 4 CBs, 2 lefties, 2 righties, so no-one could complain.

  3. IvoryGoonz

Gooby: yeah, I quite liked seeing Gameiro play I must admit :-) but as I wrote I think it’s all up to Christian Gourcuff… Managing a 5-0 with an average side and finishing 7th… was quite a performance and it can’t be all down to the players…

  4. Stu

Yeah true Gambon. I only mentioned fullbacks to show that leftied only play on the left. Its essentially the same with CB though. Lefties always play on the left for balance.

  5. Maciek

So if everything goes well we will have:

    Verthogen
    Kościelny
    Calcido

Good. Quaite good. No w Arsene, go to Lyon buy Toulalan and Frey form Fiora. Sorted.

  6. gambon

    I think a back four of;

    Sagna – Vermaelen – Vertonghen – Salcido

Would be class. But i dont think we’ll sign Salcido, let alone Vertonghen.

  7. A

We’ve seen vermy is really shaky when he plays on the right, and not at all comfortable. I’d want someone better than vertonghen anyways, and better than koscielny! or certainly someone more proven and experienced than both of them.

Not that I have any idea who….

  8. IvoryGoonz

On another note, I’m really impatient to see my dear Cote d’Ivoire taking on Brazil tonight, and manage a draw… That would be nice to see then CIV beat North Korea, leaving Portugal fighting for a win and Brazil for at least a draw, with one of them leaving the competition…

  9. finestcuts

On the ambidexterous issue, you either are or you’re not. Adaptability is a different issue.

As far as Koscielny is concerned there are a few question marks over his ability. So why would Lorient be so eager to keep a defender we’ve offered around 10 million for if he’s easily replacable by a 1.5 million defender?

And why would we be offering such big money, it’s a huge sum for an unknown talent.

I fully appreciate that he is unproven at international level but for the transfer fee offered to Lorient (and the fact the it has been declined)it strikes me that those in the know rate him very very highly and perhaps our skepticism is that of outsiders who aren’t privvy to information about this player.

Also i do not think he would come straight in like Vermaelen did, I see him as a replacement for Senderos, someone who has the potential to break into the first team and that he would be used sparingly as Eduardo was when he joined us rather than being thrown into the deep end.

Also, I suspect many feel that should Arsenal and Lorient come to an agreement about his transfer, that he would be the only defender that we bring in at the cost of someone who is more experienced.

Lorient finished 7th, but we could use that same argument against Vidic who plays for Serbia, that we’d be looking at Serbia’ FIFA ranking and judge Vidic by that rather than his performances for Manyoo where he’s won trophies. Or we could say Jack Wilshere isn’t all that because look at where Bolton finished in the table.

  10. gambon

I mean Mourinho would have no issue buying a 30 year old, especially a 30 year old defender, and hes a vastly better manager than Arsene.

  11. A

Not proven or experienced enough for me maciek. Serie A is also a risky league to buy defenders from, even more so than the other leagues, because the style of play is about as different to the prem as you can get

  12. A

Mourinho wouldn’t have a problem buying a 30 year old, but it would be an ashley cole, no way he’d ever sign a 30 year old salcido

  13. Stu

Maybe he wouldnt have a propbem doing it but i doubt he would buy him if he had Clichy and Gibbs here already seeing as they are probably better left backs…which is where Salcido would play.

  14. A

Mourinho spends money on older players who are proven and experienced at the top level, or amazingly talented in their early 20s.

He would never ever sign someone like Salcido who is 30 and has never been tried nor proven in a top league

  15. A

    As would I gooby.

I’d just like to see him managing a team in a league where there is one club with more spending power!

I doubt we ever will though, which is why he won’t replace ferguson at utd

  16. IvoryGoonz

@finestcuts: on Lorient’s refused bidding, they are a bit greedy, and might try to keep Koscielny for Marseille. As I said sometime ago, Lorient is a feeder to Marseille, and I could have seen Koscielny stepping in for Heinze or/and Rool when they leave…

  17. gambon

Clichy & Gibbs are hardly justification for not buying a left back.

Clichy has been raped at LB for 2 seasons, and offers literally nothing in attack.

  18. A

well he can’t cross gambon, but “literally” nothing isn’t true. His drives and dribbles offer something, but I would prefer someone better on the ball. Same as Sagna, apart from without the dribbling!

I’d like to see Gibbs come through this season, along with Coquelin on the right although probably not for another season

  19. choy

Gooby, you’re never going to see him in a second tier club trying to win promotion!

He’ll always be at the top clubs who have money and want to win trophies!

  20. Stu

SO what if they can read our accounts. Us having money wouldnt make them think he is worth or they would get 15m.

Im sure Valencia could read Reals accounts when they sold ALbiol for 10m.

  21. IvoryGoonz

I won’t even comment on your comparison between the 7th place of Lorient with Koscielny and Vidic success at club level and international ranking. I didn’t talk about Koscielny lack of international football, that’s another discussion alltogether…
Just pointing out that Lorient with Koscielny on the side did get results better than expected while Vidic succeeding at ManU is nothing unexpected. Until stronger financial rules are in, Man U has 10 times more chances to get a CL qualification than Lorient will ever have.
Is he worth £10mil? Based on English scale, no.
    Based on Lorient’s scale, definitely.
Losing him for next season might get their aspiration for a Europa league down the drain…
In football you have to pay the value that the player has in his current club. Not what the other club think he would be worth in his future club. Hence why Fabregas is worth 50 to 60 mil for us.
Koscielny is probably one of the 4 best players at Lorient now, and therefore Lorient will ask more.
He’d defenitely be worth twice the value of Silvestre, and if some club is ready to buy Silvestre for 4 million, why not get Koscielny for 8 mil and a conditional 1.8 mil clause after appearances? At the end, the actual weekly wage of a player compared to the average wage at his club is a better indicator of the value of a player at any club.
Finally, if Arsene doesn’t spend the cash, what happens? It just goes to the dividends of shareholders…

  22. gambon

    Stu

But it cant hurt to say no can it?! Once its obvious we arent gonna pay any more they can accept.

Also lets face it, we have no idea how much has been offered so far.

You have an example there with Albiol, i can give you UNTOLD where a team held out for a vastly improved offer.

  23. Stu

Whos paying 4m for Silvestre? I just assumed that was total wages over the span of his contract. He is a free agent after all.

  24. Stu

Fair enough Gambon. He might be worth the 10m we have been rumoured to offer but i dont think Lorient can expect to get much more off Arsenal for him.

  25. gambon

    Stu

I really doubt the reported figures are correct. Id say it may end up being worth UP TO £13m or so, but very very dependent on a lot of things.

From their POV they know we have well over £100m sitting in the bank, they know we are desperate for a CB, they know our defence has been weak every season recently and they know other clubs are interested.

Fair play to them for holding out, however its just a metter of time before the deal is done.

  26. Keyser

Clichy can cross and he does offer quite a bit in attack, but like Sagna you have to give them the ball in certain areas or the right passes, they’re just better defenders than they are attackers.

Ashley Cole doesn’t whip in Beckham style balls, but give him space down the wing running on past the midfielder and he can pick out players in the middle, but you still need the strikers to make the runs.

Van Persie hardly ever used to make the near post, goal poacher style runs and he’s worked it into his game, and Sagna’s picked him out a few times.

  27. IvoryGoonz

Stu: yeah right £4m a year deal at Al Jazira…
    That’s 77k a week in my book.
Admitting he signs 3 year deal, that’s 12mil overall cost for the club taken from monthly income a signing fee around a million pound.
Cost of buying Koscielny 8.2 mil out of a possible £30mil transfer budget that will otherwise end up in shareholders pockets?, assuming a 30-35k a week deal over his first 3 years is 5-6 mil on monthly income. In my books Silvestre is gonna cost twice the wages, on the longer term, Koscielny’s 8.2 mil fee compared to his salary will be nothing… If I think like Arsene, up to 10 mil leaves me 20 mil to bring in another defender and a goalkeeper. 12 mil is a good price for Vertonghen, leaves 8mil for a good goalkeeper unless he can sell Eduardo and Denilson for few mils to buy Mandanda or Lloris or even Frey. But Frey is happy in Florence. I dot see him leaving Italy. While I can see Lloris or Mandanda come to daddy…

  28. Keyser

It’s just bullshit comparing Arsenal to what Mourinho’s had over the last few seasons, in the future maybe, but hardly now.

He isn’t asked to work miracles, or come up with new inventive, imaginative tactics, or to develop players and teams, he’s given huge amounts of money to buy players that will take already very good teams that bit further and to make the players he has work that bit more efficiently.

He’s trying to be the David Beckham or sports management right now.

  29. IvoryGoonz

Zorr0: interesting. Where goes the budget then when it is not spent, at the end of the fiscal year? Doesn’t it add up that amount as a percentage in the amount of taxes you have to pay, and the available dividends?

Stu: Mandanda is far from being shit.
He was the first choice before Lloris for national team until Lloris arrived after an injury if I’m not wrong.
And Mandanda did win 2 titles this year. The coming back of Marseille as ligue 1 winner is in part thanks to him. In my opinion, Mandanda has more qualities for one on ones, communication and fitness, and stronger mental.

  30. Gooby

ivory mandada became 2nd keeper because lloris prove he was far better keeper, manadada is too error prone and i’ve been really impressed by lloris talent evor the years.

    kiwis scored :D

  31. Stu

Yeah it did didnt it Keyser. Im not sure if a NZ player got a touch after the free kick. Cannavaro got the last touch before the NZ no.9.

  32. Keyser

This should be a good game now with Italy chasing, hopefully they keep the pace up throughout the game.

  33. Keyser

Hah, just saw that, I think Cannevaro knew there was someone following in behind and left his arm there on purpose.

  34. Gooby

mate, even almunia looks good on youtube, lloris on a higher level than mandanda, he literally kills himself for the ball. manadada is error prone and loses soncentration far too much

  35. IvoryGoonz

Gooby: I don’t agree. They just don’t have same style. Mandanda would have tackled properly that player Lloris missed the other day…
Lloris has a probleme of confidence.
It will come with years, but he’s still too shy.
Mandanda don’t hesitate. Sure he makes some mistakes, but Lloris did big ones…

  36. IvoryGoonz

    Well. I follow OM closely.
That’s my favourite and Arsenal my second.
    I might be biased.
Still prefer his style considering the tactics. With a good DM and 2 good CB, they won the ligue title while they were 10 or 12 points behind Bordeaux at Christmas. And you can’t win the ligue with a shit goalkeeper.

  37. IvoryGoonz

Now if I was talking as an OM fan I’d like Arsenal to buy Lloris rather than Mandanda so that OM can keep him ;-)

  38. Gooby

italy always have to get a penalty.

well ivory i think the best quality of lloris is his fearless rushouts, he is ahead imo, manadanda on the other hand is more spectacular. lloris may be a bit shy but manadanda is not a leader either, when he loses confidence he gets really nervous.
    i watch ligue 1 too

  39. desmond

Bloody hell, things are really going tits up for the french ! The players have just decided THEMSELVES that they refuse to train today after an altercation between the Captain, Evra, and the fitness trainer, Robert Duverne.

Vive l’anarchie ! Vive la révolution ! Le pouvoir aux joueurs !

  40. IvoryGoonz

@desmond: not that they had any chance with Do-me-neck as coach anyway… If that can protect their team spirit until Laurent Blanc comes in, I’m all for it…

  41. Tariq

Desmond is right, I just read a small article on L’Equipe, Evra and one of the staff members had an altercation. Also that 200 fans showed up to get autographs, but the players didn’t show up.

  42. desmond

Apparently, more than half an hour after deciding to leave the training ground, the players are still in the coach with Domenech ! Oh, to be a fly on the window in that coach !
They just stormed off without even consulting the staff and with no regard to the fans that showed up ! Ungrateful, spoilt brats.

  43. IvoryGoonz

@gooby: and if it is so that Domenech chose him instead of Mandanda cause he thought him a better player, (my bad), it still doesn’t prove he actually is considering the other choices of Domenech…

  44. desmond

    @ Ivorygoonz

It’s the players who stormed off, so effectively they’re the ones excluding themselves from the fans. It’s only the second time since the beginning of their preparations that training was open to public and they just think of themselves. Domenech has nothing to do with this, for once ! Apparently, they also stormed off in protest to the decision of sending Anelka home. How sweet …

  45. IvoryGoonz

    Viva la revolucion!

No link at all. Anyone else think it would be better for the WC to get rid of group stage? Just normal 1v1?
That would push them to look for a win…

  46. Gooby

Domenech is a retard, i base this on my judgement.

What a shame, France player refuse to train. lots of problems and lots of people will lose jobs

  47. Gooby

    ivory

i don’t care about their feelings, they play for the national team FFS. they should put their stupid problems aside and think of the nation

  48. IvoryGoonz

Just an idea of the IQ of the man, he’s known for his love of astrology, and here is what he said the day before the game with Nederlands due on a Friday 13th:
“Je ne suis pas superstitieux, je l’ai dit hier, ça porte malheur”

translation: “I’m not superstitious, I told it yesterday, it brings bad luck”.

  49. IvoryGoonz

Gooby: you’re right on the overall. But their feelings is part of their ability to perform.
Just leaving them alone is the only thing you can do to help them as a fan in some circumstances.
It’s not blaming them all the time that’s gonna get them to lift their asses to win…

  50. Gooby

    domenech is a retard.

i am not blaming them, but the coach should know some are not fit to pull on the shirt and the Fa should have known that the coach is clueless.

hope some of those players get axed form the french team forever

  51. desmond

Honestly, even Molière couldn’t have written such a farce ! Lucky for some, especially Domenech and Anelka, that France abolished the guillotine or we might have seen a few heads go after the World Cup !

  52. Stu

Seems the players have issued a statement of support for Anelka. Supporting a teammate is one thing but i hope they dont support what he said. Regardless of how shit deomenech is i think that was too far. To call your manager that is never acceptable, especially when he plays you ahead of everyone else.

  53. jaygooner

It would be cool if it were true Dave. David Dein would have brokered deals to bring all the players The Mighty Arsenal need at this moment to the club. Maybe Wenger realises this and has indeed chatted to Dein possibly to help in an advisory capacity eventually easing Dein back into the club. One thing about Dein regardless of his deal with FatmanFat is he loves this wonderful club he is there every week. Given a choice between the public schoolboy buffon HillWood and Dein I know who I would prefer. Dein would have said to the barcacuntulunyans two words. OFF and FUCK and arrange them in any order you like.

  54. Big Dave

    Jay,

would luv to see Dein back at the club he loves and belongs. he got shitted on by the board and his so called mate Fiszman.

Wenger needs him by his side

  55. Sam

Hehe , Have you guys seen Evra crying and all ?

Patrice “Men vs Babies” Evra cried like a baby. He is proving to be a sucker of a captain. Love it.

  56. ritesh

ooouhhhh…France are giving us some entertainment off the field.

Evra is better than gallas as Captain. Hope Red Nose puts him as Captain more often. ;-)

  57. Gooby

Evra captain of France, that was the biggest joke of the year, him trying to act as one was quite hilarious.

when you see this brainless manc talking it tells a lot

  58. Big Dave

    From a gooner blog

Btw Carlton Cole said on some American sawker show that Joe Cole’s signed for us.

  59. ritesh

haha Gooby…I loved every minute of an Evra interview. But Ribery is heads and shoulders over him.
The interview last night made me LMAO.

Good we did not buy him.

  60. ritesh

Cole is a good player, talented, hardworking, and level headed.

+ he has raw English passion. I hope the rumour is true.

  61. ritesh

Sam, he got the return of what he aimed at us after the CL following the Mexico game.

He was left for dead by the Mexican winger and he did not even chase. A french journalist said, he was made to look like a child ;-)

He also suggested he should move his ass on the field lol

  62. ritesh

I support the Brazilians and hope they do well again this year…but Argentina looks like they are up for this.

A team of top player…and top players wearing their socks off for a change ;-)

  63. ritesh

Hope it gets better for England, there is so much talent in that team… they have to respond by playing well in adversity…

it seems that they cannot play if they are not swearing and playing tough. If they put their mind at it, we could see Englad in the semis at least.

  64. Stu

England wont get to the semis with the football, if you can even call it that, that they have been playing. Ye are neither tight at the back or clinical in attack.

  65. GoonerT1m

Dein and Wenger are best friends and live next door to each other, I have been saying for ages that there is something brewing.

  66. Dutchman

I’am laughing of the comments from people who are saying here that there dream-defence is:

    vd wiel-vermaelen-vertonghen-salcido

That are all players who are coming from the dutch leageu!!!:P
Salcido is a good player as fifth option not as first.
Vertonghen is a beast!! Love him, he plays for my most-hated team, Ajax!! But he is too good. vd Wiel the same, love him too. But let sagna and clichy stay where they are and buy vertonghen and koscielny and then I’am happy with the defenders. Then a GK and j.cole and we are sorted.Because Vertonghen was a DM but this season he is a CB, he can play both!! He would be ideal for us!

  67. gambon

Its unbelievable how many players we let run down their contract when its clear we dont want them.

Senderos, Gilbert & Merida all shouldve brought money in.

  68. IvoryGoonz

Don’t know about you, nor who is the commentator, but he’s as rubbish as the referree. Kaka’s diving is so crap.

  69. zeus

Brazil are a disgrace. Playing vs training cones and only scores 3 goals. Pfffffff. African sides just drop out please, making Brazil look like the 1974 version, so naive.

And as I type Kaka gets a 2nd yellow.

Kaka should have enough experience to have avoided that 2nd yellow.

  70. Stu

In fairness Zeus, Kaka just stood his ground and braced himself for a colision, whether he should have moved is another thing. Keita made an absolute meal of it.

  71. zeus

Kaka was bitching all game going to the ref and such. And hehimself was on a fucking yellow card.

He is a top player and as a top player players are gonna fuck around with you to wind you up. Kaka fell for the bait and now he won’t play the next game, not that it matters.

HATE BRAZIL, ARGIE ALL THE WAY.

  72. Doo Woop

fuck ivory coast, cheaters should go home

the french ref is a joke… They deserved 3 red cards minimum

  73. Doo Woop

The fuckers injured Elano and others. If you dont know how to play football, dont go to world cup, pricks

  74. Doo Woop

Now which are going to be the two afican teams in the semifinals, Eto? Tell me who’s gonna be.

Is it going to be Cameroon? Ivory Coast?

    STFU next time, motherfucker

  75. Stu

Its diabolical that Brazil had a player sent off despite not committing a foul yet IC had noone sent off despite numerous awful “tackles”.

  76. Doo Woop

Exactly Stu, what a bunch of dirty scumbag… They could as well be playing in birmingham, blackburn… Allardyce style

    anti-football idiots

  77. zeus

    Stu

No. From the Caribbean. My team never made, so you kinda have to pick a team and I’ve always picked argie because of Maradona.

But Kaka should know better, they were always gonna try to wind the Brazilians up, and of all people he was the one to bite the hook.
