So the revolving doors begins, will we do the usual, more out than in? Or will we get the world record for FREEs?

by & filed under Uncategorized.

We have signed Chamakh on a free, good news indeed, one in, but we already have two out on frees with Merida and Senderos, one in 2 out so far, well we know that Gallas, Silvestre and possibly Campbell are next out, so that would be 5 out and 1 in, so by my calculations we will need 4 new signings just to stand still.

Doing business with Fulham would have been a smart move, given they wanted Senderos, but I’m sure they shook hands on something. Good luck anyway Phil, you were a much loved player, error prone maybe, but loved all the same, you’ll get a great reception when you return.

Now we know every year we have more out than in, and we have signed a 17 and 16 year old, but they are for the future and Wellington (19) won’t arrive until January, so if we are to strengthen this season, we will have to be very busy indeed, Cesc seems to be upping his value with every game so he is doing us a lot of good but as Wenger always says, no more than 3 in or the balance gets affected, now whilst I don’t believe that, I am getting concerned that a team like ManU have spent £20mil already and they owe over a billion and all we have is a free in and probably 5 out, and that doesn’t include Cesc Fabregas, who looks like he will also be going.

If we get rid of the players on the fringes, like Simpson, Hoyte, Barazite, Gilbert and Randall, and then those that are not good enough like Almunia and Denilson, we are facing a massive spending spree, or another influx of youth.

Maybe our wily old fox has a plan, great, but what if there is no plan? It’s not like that hasn’t happened before is it!

I also read that Ronaldo was very close to signing for us, unfortunately the Mancs offered more for him, at £12mil, it didn’t seem such a risk did it.

Oh well, no point in going over old ground, perhaps we have agreed all sorts of deals that can’t be made public until after the world cup, maybe July will be busy, it’s not as if all the other teams are tearing up the transfer market is it?

What about signing Petrov on a free, he’s now available, maybe we will get the world record for all our new players signing on frees, Petrov, Cole, Assulin and Chamakh, I wonder what keepers, centre backs and defensive midfielders are currently available of frees?

There was a question from a number of grovers yesterday about some bloggers continually having a pop at our management and players, well it’s hard to tell people what to think, that wouldn’t make it a place to have an opinion, the only time I block people is if they come on for a row, or insult fellow bloggers, so let’s all try and be positive and have some fun today, you know who I mean and you know who you are. I’m not judging, just making a friendly suggestion.

I know Arsene could help by opening up his purse, but don’t hold your breath, he must however by now see the writing on the wall, there’s nothing wrong with changing tack boss, in the real world we do that all the time, as the market dictates, and you know what? If we don’t do it soon, we could get left behind.

One thing is for sure, we will get injuries, live with it, plan for it and see where it takes us, otherwise your beloved 4th spot could come under a bit of pressure this coming season and that would be a shame in what maybe your last season.

Have a fun filled and happy blogging day Grovers, the world cup starts in a few days and maybe things will start to fall into place.

I don’t think France will make it out of the group stages (SA, Mexico, Uruguay), which is a real shame as the they are the team I like to send packing more than anyone.

    Ha Ha Ha!!!!!!

The Spanish media this morning speculates that Barcelona are being frustrated by Arsenal over a move for Cesc Fabregas and could turn their attention to Valencia’s David Silva, who is also wanted by Manchester City.

Arsenal have already rejected a £30million bid for Fabregas from Barcelona and have made it clear that the Gunners’ skipper is not for sale. Although Fabregas has told Arsene Wenger that he wishes to move to the Nou Camp, Arsenal are standing firm. With the World Cup starting, further negotiations between the clubs are likely to be delayed.

As a result, Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola could well turn his attention to Valencia’s David Silva, having already signed his former team-mate David Villa .

Silva has been at Valencia for almost his entire career and has established himself as one of Spain’s top players. In 2009/2010, the 24-year-old scored nine goals and provided ten assists in 38 appearances for cash strapped Valencia. With six goals in 33 internationals, Silva is expected to star for Spain during the World Cup.

However, rival Spanish daily AS reiterates Manchester City ‘s interest in Silva. AS claims that Manchester City executive chairman Gary Cook has already held talks with his Valencia counterparts. Apparently, the Spanish club claim “progress was made yesterday” in negotiations between the clubs. Cash-strapped Valencia will likely look to sell Silva, who they value at 35 million euros.

we will sell him GG …

thing is we should just take some players and the 30 mil ! …..

by the time this is done and dusted and we have cesc’s money .. he will say he cant even find a mark schwazer style signing …

  6. ethangunner

anyway by that time he will have already signed everyone he wants on frees :) and 3 million in cash , 2 shirt buttons and an old rusty shovel ..

and that 50 mil in money can go straight into hill-woods retirement fund .

  7. MickyDidIt89

Ethan: my problem with the “take the money and some players” idea is that it appears we are aquiring players on a wait-and-see who we can get on a free/cheap basis, rather than targeting who we need.

  8. ethangunner

yes . thats my point if wenger had 70 mil or what ever BS the club let spread like wild fire we had , then why not concentrate on signing the TARGETS …
    secure the high priority targets

.. ohh we dont have any ???

like barca is doing to us !!..
    HUNTING THEIR TARGET !

it seems wenger is more like a jumble sale shopper than
    a buyer of rare artifacts…..

LOOK AT THE PRICE TAG WENGER ?
    does it say free ?

    YES !!

    ok im interested :)

  9. ethangunner

if anyone wants to pin point why cesc is leaving ..

all i can say is look at the money investment the club feels is adequate to spend to keep him to stay ..

    THEY AREN’T !

they dont show any form of passion to sign silva or villa to keep him here ..

    nothing ….

  10. tonyadamsisgod

yawn – I hope so but I just read a link that said we’re not interested as Wenger already feels he has enough of those types of midfielder’s. I agree with him, we do. But they’re all fucking shit so sign Joe Cole you stubborn prick!!

  11. GoonerT1m

    TAIG- unreal isnt he….
    look at this quote

“So where we progress from there is quite simple – we need to be more steady defensively and concede less goals.”

give the man a gold star, seriously we have been saying that for at least 3 summer transfer windows FFS.

  12. GoonerT1m

i just think he has become a politician, he talks and talks and talks and talks, yawn yawn zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

  13. dennisdamenace

Every fucking summer he, you know the one who’s paid x million a year, identifies our deficiencies, and does little or fuck all about them, for how long now have we been second rate in our defending, and yet here we go again, talk is cheap Wenger, put our money where your fucking mouth is for once……..

  14. tonyadamsisgod

With players like Diaby, Rosicky & Gallas at our club Joe Cole should be able to pass any fucking medical we care to give him!!!!

  15. dennisdamenace

I’ve always rated Joe Cole, as a player and as a person, and i’d like to think he will improve the quality of our midfield/attack, but not if Fab4 goes and we don’t recruit a similar level replacement for him, because Joe then becomes a replacement not an addition, same old same old…….

However, our real needs must be a quality goalkeeper and more quality at centre back. This is an ABSOLUTE MUST, to not address this glaring issue would be unthinkable and unforgiveable….
