Hungry Nasri / Yaya we’ll take him / £20million man on way? / Spanish Tax

So it seems the crazy Frenchman who certainly did go to specsavers (You can’t knock Ray’s specs, very stylish) decided it fit to send Diaby to the World Cup over Nasri.  Some say it’ll make him hungry for next season, it could be argued the little podger has been hungry all season, but not for football if you get what I mean…

Nasri has been something of an enigma. We’ve seen sublime moments of skill and composure, then we’ve seen nothing as he fails to impose himself for large swathes of a game.

After watching him control the Porto game I thought I’d be eating a massive piece of humble pie after my early season derision of his team input. He dominated their midfield in a Cesc+ kind of way. After that though, the pressure got to him and he failed to give the remainder of the season the spark it needed. He’s played 25 games, scored 5 and bagged 4 assists.

Is that a good return on £12million? Well, it’s not the worst. Alex Hleb managed 3 goals and 6 assists in his second season. I can’t help but think more Arsenal fans would be in favour of Hleb than Nasri… at least he assisted the assister!

Does Nasri enjoy English football or is he waiting for the right time to make a move to a more suitable league like La Liga?

Does anyone else think Arsenal.com reporting on transfers is an odd move which only goes to highlight how desperate they are for more money? I have a list of how they could improve the site without lowering themselves to idle gossip more fit for a place like Le Grove!

1. Employ some Arsenal fans to oversee the operation.

2. Think twice before comparing a poor player to a great player

3. Report on your own exclusives at least within a month of them happening.

Competing with the blogs and transfer websites seems a little petty. It’d be like Denilson joining a Sunday league team in the summer to make himself feel good about his skills (He wouldn’t dare would he?).

Stick to what your good at Arsenal.com… errr…?

I’ve read that Gallas is finally going to fly the Arsenal nest. He’s had a good season and formed a mean partnership with Vermaelen, however, you can’t deny the facts. We’ve shipped lots of goals and they can’t all be apportioned at the keepers gloves. Overall, you’d have to say his signing was a failure. His pathetic tantrum at Birmingham cost us team spirit for the run in, his unhelpful comments in the media have never been applauded by the Arsenal fans and his failed captaincy will live on in memory.

Time for a change I think. That makes 2 new defensive signings a priority I think. I hope Wenger looks to the Premiership for his defenders. That way, you avoid the 6 month bedding in period. I can’t help but agree with Geoff. Someone like Shawcross (Like, not actually him), Jagielka or Cahill would be a good start.

Sol Campbell proved many years ago that your defenders don’t need to have Brazilian skill on the ball. First and foremost, they need to live for the art of defending. We’ve got our stylish defender in the superb Vermaelen, now we need a thug defender who lives for clean sheets and know’s how to marshall an efficient back line.

I have a sneaky suspicion that we’ll be bidding for a player like Melo or Yaya Toure (Who is 90% certain to leave Barca). On the Brazilian, it’s important to note that you don’t become a rubbish player over night. Just because Melo has had a bad season with Juve, it doesn’t mean he is now no longer a good player. Look at Forlan and Ribery. Two players who had terrible problems at certain clubs in their careers, now they’re flourishing and turning out in European Cup Finals. If we signed one of the aforementioned players, Song could be used as a back up defender and we’d have experienced steel in the middle of the park.

Song has done very well this season, of that there is no doubt. The problems came when he started picking up injuries. I’m not prepared to accept another season with Denilson as our back up enforcer. More importantly, can Wenger risk another season with him in the middle? If he truly know’s the weaknesses in the team, surely he’ll have identified his lack of work ethic and his weak physical attributes as a problem?

I know Rambo could play that role long-term, but without meaning to sound brutal… we’ve seen what a snapped leg/ankle does to form and mentality. Lets face it, even if he’s back this summer, his head wont be for at least a year.

The goalkeeping conundrum is a tough one. Sure we’d all love to see Buffon step between the sticks but let’s be realistic. £20million doesn’t really buy you a much better keeper than £8million. Buffon has an aura about him because he’s been pretty much the best since he was 22. However, an astute signing like Schwarzer of Fulham while we wait for Chesney to do his apprenticeship would certainly steady the ship. I’ve heard that Joe Hart will not be allowed to leave. So, why not pinch a solid keeper from one of our rivals for a few seasons? It makes sense to me!

On that note, well played Fulham. They more than matched Madrid last night showing passion, fight and supreme discipline well into extra time. In the end, quality ended their dreams… but they made the Premiership proud and showed the strength we have throughout our competitive league.

So in conclusion? I’d say we’re now about 4 additional players short of making a really good go of next season. We’ve got the GPS injury preventers in the dressing room so we know that there is a very strong likelihood of an emptier medical room next season. Combine that with some experienced players with the hunger to win and we could find ourselves with a fit squad and a cutting edge mentality to match.

Wouldn’t that be great?

P.S. Gooner-Pak sent me an e-mail yesterday which gave me an idea! Why don’t you guys start your own transfer rumour list on another page? At the end of the season, we can count up how many players we were linked with. So, at the top of the menu, click the transfer page, add the link and write down the projected fee and the players name! I can’t do it by myself… so I’ll need your help on this one!

TRANSFER GOSSIP

Right… see you in the comments!

UPDATE: According to one of the Grovers, as part of the Spanish budget austerity package, the lower tax rate for foreigners has been increased to 43%. Who’d move for 7% eh (Anelka… I know)? I think that means a 20% pay cut for all of Spain’s foreign footballers!

It’s not funny… honestly, I definitely wouldn’t want to be Ronaldo when he opens his pay slip this month!

    Morning Gooners !

  6. gnarleygeorge9 says:

Delayed posts ;) have you been on the nest Pedro?

  7. He’s got himself a girlfriend and now football is on the back burner, that’s what it is!

  8. kelsey says:

sorry to interupt your post but ethan the tax rate has been increased to 43% here so the tax advantage has gone.

  9. ethangunner says:

all this stuff about gallas !

gee .. but hey pedders .. everyone in Arsenal pushes forward …

we got wing backs in the final 3rd of the pitch 50 % of the game .. and even tv and gallas gets in the box ..

so if your an attacking team failing to win ..
your obviously doing something wrong in attack arent you ?!

we score more than the opposition , thats what makes us exciting to watch ..

even if you had 20 foot defender super human androids , the cunts would still push up and leave us exposed !

wenger can become more defensively instantly if he changes his style of play ..

you know where im going with this :)

  10. Btw – Never Shawcross.

I swear with Jesus as my witness, i’d burn his Arsenal shirt on the centre circle at The Emirates (with him in it if neccesary) before I’d let him play for Arsenal.

  11. Pedro says:

Sorry guys, mustering up positivity takes time these days!

  12. KM says:

    top 10? ;)

  13. I do Ethan – you want us to buy Ade back. ;-)

  14. gnarleygeorge9 says:

When you consider how well Bale finished the season off for Spuds, that Shawcross mungler becomes an even bigger turd. Get well Rambo, if rumours are true, we need you up and about ASAP.

    Kelsey

my ears are still hurting from your capitals.

  15. MARK GOONER says:

hleb all day for me, he was always looking to go forward and was direct and had the ability to run with the ball and go past players and find impossible yet simple passes, his shooting was shocking, but the assisters assister is a fair summary of him, he was involved in a high percentage of goals for us, always looking for the ball and starting attacks and considering was same price as nasri, although he only had 18 months at barca, the fact that guardiola signed him shows he was a quality player
its time for nasri to step up, this year him, theo and diaby are on there last chance in my eyes

  16. bnsb says:

William Gallas, Tomas Rosicky, Eduardo, Philippe Senderos, Mikael Silvestre and Fran Merida are also in line to head through the Emirates Stadium exit door.

    http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2565/exclusives/2010/05/13/1922036/andrey-arshavin-and-gael-clichy-head-queue-of-eight-arsenal?

  17. Didn’t realise that Kelsey, that’s good information. That may well make the Premiership a more attractive destination again then.

Come to England, where twunts like Ryan Shawcross get to assault you. Who could resist a sales pitch like that?

  18. Dan says:

Now the months of transfer torcher starts. I wouldn’t bet against feeling let down on the transfer front come the start of the new season. Oh to be a gooner :)

  19. MARK GOONER says:

    hleb or nasri guys??

  20. KM says:

i think our reason for shipping so many goals is that we dnt defend collectively as a team. the players need to be drilled day in day out…i was very impressed with how barcelona played against us and how inter played against Barca. We need to learn how to switch from attack to defense. When we are in defensive mode we need to become compact, close down space…that is the way to go about it…but i dnt think wenger is a defensive coach….he doesn’t have it in him…..

  21. Pedro – you mentioned the H word. Now we’re going to get a Paulinho day.

Quick lets start talking about Denilson!

  22. Mayank says:

The Man U site has had the rumours section for ages. Shame we do too.
Jagielka maybe, Cahill or Shawcross no-way.
As for the GK we need someone with an aura, we have many players who are good enough in other positions. So Buffon it is.

  23. bnsb says:

How about “playing in EPL is like having sex sans condom. No protection :)

  24. Gooby says:

    Grovers;

    4 quality additions
    -buffon/hart/frey
    -jagielka/cahill/shawcross/zapata
    -toure/melo
    -chamakh

and we will rule the league, we weren’t that far this year with crap players and our best crop injured at the same time(gallas, cesc, arshavin, RvP, song, vermy)

    imagine

    ———hart———
    -sagna-cahill-verm-clichy
    ———song——–
    ——-cesc—melo—-
    ———arshavin——
    ——chamakh–RvP—-

  25. Steve Biko says:

By the way the Queen is right. As efficient as Shawcross why would we sign that thug? Furthermore would you be willing to drive away Ramsey from the club just to sign him? Furthermore I thought Manure have first option to sign him in which case will this not be another deal like that of Smalling? Finally what business do we have to buy from that crappy c;ub Stoke?

  26. Pedro says:

Hi Kelsey, I hope you don’t mind… but I included that in my post.

I mentioned that might happen a few months ago… good to see the Spanish have amended that rule.

Haha! Poor old Ronaldo… a 20% pay cut!

  27. KM says:

    Mark

i thought Hleb was an amazing player. He made our side tick…he made things happen…i think he was the most fouled player in our side in his last year….and i agree with the above poster…he assisted the assister ;) . He was unbelievably skillful and would take out 2 players with his skill/intelligence. however Hleb was at his peak or nearabouts whereas Nasri is in his early 20′s and has been played out of position a lot and that also effects your game…i think Nasri will come good. He’s too talented to fail.

  28. Gooby says:

would you like us signing arteta???

    i think he is quality

  29. eduardo says:

has a great aurora Pedro you nutter? sure I agree he’s out of this world……….his aura is even better!
Buffon for Arsenal! Gigi for the Gooners! i would fucking love it!

  30. Pedro says:

QoS, I think leg snapping happens elsewhere… it just seems to be statistically more likely to happen to Arsenal players.

    Only post invincible’s though…

  31. chozzer says:

    Has Ribery got a reprieve?

  32. KM says:

    HLEB – great dribbling skills

i’d love it if we can get him back – put him on the Right wing …walcott is shite!!!

  33. Pedro says:

    Cheers Eduardo!

  34. Mayank says:

I light of the new tax rates shouldn’t Arsh be this weeks Le Chump? I hate it when rich people maon about taxes.

  35. chozzer says:

Pedro, please stop pluralising with an apostrophe…it’s driving me nuts! :)

  36. Pedro says:

I got mixed up with the aurora project that helps female artists…

    Tut tut…

  37. Steve Biko says:

Gooby I dont think Everton would sell Arteta cheaply and the question therefore is why invest in midfield when our problems are in defence.

  38. nishanth says:

Hleb ahead of nasri anyday.Nasri has potential to be a better player but he doesn’t look too interested.Turns it on when he feels like.

  39. Franchise says:

priority for our next signings should be

    1. what is their bone density
    2. if they dont have kids then its a no no

if we won the league this year and the players families came on the pitch, we would have seen more parents of players than children. we need to sign experience what better way to ensure this by only signing fathers?

    Song is a father :D

  40. Has anybody looked to see what Nasri’s assisting the assister stats are like? They might be better than Hlebs!

  41. KM says:

    better quality vid – HLEB

  42. Mayank says:

Now all of a sudden Hleb is great? I wasn’t on LG when he was at the club but I’m sure he must’ve been a much moaned about player.

  43. Pedro says:

    Chozzer, enlighten me?!

  44. Pedro says:

Mayank… there was a split camp on him.

  45. Gooby says:

hleb used perform do magic dribbles. i liked the player a lot. he was frustrating in front of goal though

  46. The Kuyt penalty has just got my blood boiling all over again. What a run.

  47. Franchise says:

Hleb over Nasri for me all day everyday

  48. chozzer says:

    @9.51
    “Only post invincible’s though…”

  49. Mayank says:

Bone density? Everyone has the same bone density unless you’re a 50 yo woman with osteoporosis.
Maybe the medical can include a kick to the shin.

  50. kelsey says:

Pedro, not quite correct.the tax rate of 435 is for the higher earners that includes all the top la liga teams.it is ot the lowest tax rate for the average Jose bloggs.

Also the government have stopped giving families 2000 euros just for having a baby, yes that is right.Unemployment is over 20% of which 755 are under 25 and the Spanish dole is payed for only two years.

The main reasons as i see it is that the big name players at barca and RM have a better quality of life, can go about their ways without being hassled by all and sundry in restaurants, clubs etc.

The cost of living in madrid is the highest in Spain and with the weak euro most probably now more expensive living in London.

Also the weather is often used as an argument, which is incorrect.madrid is on a plateau and is far colder than london in the winter and the high temperatures in August do not effect the football season.

  51. Franchise says:

I said this as early as 2008 when we signed Nasri I think it was after his brace against Utd. I was almost murdered on here

  52. John A says:

I’ve never seen a ball stick to someones boot as it did for Hleb, although I agree, he was really really frustrating in front of goal when he refused to shoot.

I remember one game when he was 1 yard off the goal line and decided to pass ! We fucked that one up as well.

  53. Steve Biko says:

    Brilliant Franchise

  54. eduardo says:

LOL pedro its all sex sex sex with you… how are you? in regards to my favourite topic of chat being keepers I have to say that we are honestly beleive that we have more chance of getting GIGI than Hart for two reasons.
Firstly, MIDDLE EASTLANDS…those cunts WILL NOT do us any favours……they need not sell and he has a good chance to play first choice for some of next season…the next step in his apprenticeship.
Secondly, AW and to be fair the people that matter at AFC all rave about Chesney…hes 19 now coming on 20…we need a keep at the other end of the spectrum NOT starting his career a la Hart….even though hes quality and I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THE ENGLISH NUMBER ONE AT ARSENAL AGAIN!!!!!

Oh and thirdly,,,,didnt i say? GIGI is coming to Arsenal!!!!! lol oh to be true

  55. To be an accurate test Mayank, the medical should feature all of the medical team kicking the prospective player in rotation.

And it should have a man in black t-shirt and shorts stood alongside doing absolutely nothing.

  56. Pedro says:

    Ahh right…!

Ok Chozzer, I’ll renounce my pluralisation of that word.

    Is Invincibles even a word?

  57. Its a movie, so it must be!

  58. Pedro says:

Eduardo, from the perspective of marketing, player moral and fan morale… buying him is a no brainer.

Too obvious though, don’t you think?

Especially if we’ve only got £30mill to spend

  59. gunner90 says:

Unfortunately the performances of Dialby, Nasri and even Song dropped when Fabregas was not available to play last season. Denilson is not good enough for Arsenal and never will be! Rosicky could and should have stepped up to take over the Fabregas role but unfortunately seems to have lost all his ability and confidence after a long lay-off and really should be transferred now he is almost 30. Ramsay cannot be considered at all next season and Wilshere is not ready to step up. Eastmond is not ready either so think Wenger has to get one experienced midfield player into the squad – ideally Melo/Yaya and someone else but only one can be expected!

  60. t-buzz says:

    Morning!
Has anyone seen the transfer link section on Arse.com?

    http://www.arsenal.com/news/transfer-links/transfer-linked-everton-s-mikel-arteta?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+arsenal-news+%28News+Feed%29

whats the point of it if they’re just going to post what the likes of the Mirro or Sun are speculating and the club will not confirm if it’s true or not? Whata watse of time and space!

  61. John A says:

I think we should have Martin Keown conducting the medicals. He would scare the shit out of any of the soft pussies that we’ve been signing over the last few years !

  62. Arsenal Tom says:

morning all, good post, i think hart will be allowed to leave if we offer proper money and he wants to come.

    http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Arsenal-transfer-news-Arsene-Wenger-will-sign-a-defender-this-summer-article424319.html

good stuff from the boss. weather or not he backs it up is another question!

  63. KM says:

shall we start a ‘bring back Hleb’ campaign? ;)

    If only….

Imo Hleb would take a massive pay cut to be back at the top level again.

We would have an amazing front 3 :

    Arshavin RvP Hleb

    New DM Fab Song

that would be a killer side.

  64. Mayank says:

Pedro, invincibles is highlighted for incorrect spelling by Google Chrome but so is Google.

    QoS,
Black t-shirt and shorts? Surly pants would be better.

  65. colonel mustard says:

“we need a thug defender who lives for clean sheets”…….ha ha love it…

  66. Mayank says:

This is funny, the Man U website rates the rumours according to %age.

  67. MickyDidIt89 says:

Sorry people, but some of you are in cloud cuckoo land. All the budding economists on here doing their “this +that-this=to spend on players” is nuts. The same people said we had £xm to spend in jan., so what makes anyone think we will spend big this summer? And as for parting with £15m for a 32 yr old keeper…..butterfly net time!

  68. KM says:

I’d love Wenger to buy a DM however his recent comments ‘we dnt need anyone in the middle’ lead me to think that he’s going to rely on the same clowns (Diaby+Denilson)
However i’v got a good feeling about Lansbury. He’s played in the lower leagues and knows how to roll his sleeves up when the going gets rough.

However if Yaya/Melo are available we should sell one of Diaby/Denilson.

  69. Pedro says:

Mayank, tell that to the plural police ;-)

  70. Why KM? Surely its better to have competition for places and cover for injuries?

  71. Mayank says:

Jens was 33 when we signed him.

  72. chozzer says:

Sorry Pedro…..you’ve made me feel all picky now.

Thanks for the amazingly well-written post………

except for “We’ve got the GPS injury preventers’ in the dressing room” :) :) :)

  73. KM says:

    Last comment on Hleb

I miss him very muchat arsenal, he was one of the main reasons we played such great football and why we were on top of the epl by miles.

his link up play with the defenders through midfield to the strikers is what we lack now, hleb gave us that.
yes he didnt score many goals and people say nasri is way better, but he ran the show for us, he was the orchestrator.

  74. MickyDidIt89 says:

For what its worth, here are my transfer predictions:
    Green
    Toulalan
    Arteta (Cesc out)
    Chamakh

  75. Mayank says:

Has anyone worked out our 25 man squad considering we buy alleast 2 non-home growns.

  76. Pedro says:

Chozzer, when a word doesn’t exist, surely it is my right as an Englishman to spell it how I like!

To be honest, wordpress corrected that one through their intelligent spell checker.

  77. KM says:

    QOS

    help balance the books ;)

BUT if we can afford to keep them then i’m not against keeping them

  78. chozzer says:

Hleb was definitely better than Nasri at receiving the ball with his back to goal.

  79. rob green says:

it doesn’t look good!! expect chamakh and 1 more!!

“My transfer policy this summer will be to keep our strengths going forward, add one player, and add more defensive strength to our team.”

with gallas going we will not gain a defender!!

  80. Mayank says:

The only thing that irks me is invinsibles.

  81. Mayank says:

How’d you infer that Rob, he’s saying he’ll buy defensive players. I expect a CB and GK regardless of Gallas staying or not.

  82. KM says:

    Mayank

    interesting point there mate.

Wenger was going barmy over this rule in the press last week. Here’s the link to the new rule

    http://www.premierleague.com/page/Headlines/0,,12306~1797582,00.html

We need to include 8 home grown players in a squad of 25

  83. Bektas says:

I will never forget that Hleb pass for Fabregas at Anfield. Twas a thing of beauty.

  84. KM says:

we have 4 current squad under 21, plus youth players (Allowed unlimited.
    16Ramsey
    37Eastmond
    Szczesny
    Wilshere

We have 17 home grown, thou only need 8.

    4Fabregas
    12Vela
    14Walcott
    15Denilson
    16Ramsey
    17Song Billong
    20Djourou
    22Clichy
    24Mannone
    28Gibbs
    31Campbell
    37Eastmond
    52Bendtner
    Szczesny
    Wilshere
    Traore
    Merida

leaves us with 13 who are neither H/G or u21.

    1Almunia
    2Diaby
    3Sagna
    5Vermaelen
    7Rosicky
    8Nasri
    9Eduardo
    10Gallas
    11Van Persie
    21Fabianski
    23Arshavin
    27Eboue
    Silvestre

So 13 plus 17 equalls 30, minus 4 u21 H/G as they dont count as part of 25 means our squad is 26 with loads of “home grown” players.
    1 too many……
How ever, Merida, Silvestre and Gallas will leave.
Gives us 23, add in Chamakh and a new CB gives us our 25.
So to buy anymore we will have to sell.
I.E Almunia out, if new GK in, Eduardo out if we buy another mid (Cover for Song).
If we do this, we look in decent shape, and new rules are no problem for us.

  85. henry14 says:

To be honest i would like to see Gallas gone personally.

Although it’s undeniable he’s a great player i don’t think he’s every really given 2 shits about Arsenal and i would much rather another player came in with more energy and fight like TV.

Someone that wants to be at the club, who can form a good partnership with TV and that will fight for us, be more vocal etc..etc..

    Also i don’t think he’s worth £80K/£90K per week.

  86. Arsenal Tom says:

rob…”add more defensive strength to our team”

its the right noises though about the right places, he cant come out sounding desperate as we’ll get fucked on prices

chamakh, GK, CB would be a great summer for us

  87. eduardo says:

dont piss on fire works pedro!
    do we have 30M?

  88. Mayank says:

    Not home grown
    GK: 3 players
    Defenders:4
    MF:7
    CF:5(including Chamakh)
    That’s 19 we can have 17.

  89. KM says:

    How old is Hart??

i’d love us to sell Eduardo and get in a top class DM.

Almunia & Fabianksi out. New GK in and bring back Szczesny as no.2

Gallas out – top class CB in

  90. gambon says:

Id take a shawcross like player.

We used to win things when we had hard nuts in the team.

  91. gnarleygeorge9 says:

Bugger the transfers ins & outs. What strip are The Arsenal opting for next year. They had better bring back the good old 71er

  92. Mayank says:

Denilson Song and Nik are H/G?
KM’s list is much more comprehensive and correct.

  93. henry14 says:

I think it’s just about change and freshening things up for me, i don’t mind if it’s 2/3 – as long as it freshens up the team and we get rid of some of the dross.

I just can’t bare to watch the same players do the same things again for another season.

New QUALITY CB replacing Gallas and GK and throw Chamakh in the mix (who is an unknown quantity but i have a sneaky suspicion he might actually turn out to be a great player) and i think it would work wonders.

  94. LAzer says:

bnsb that was really poor at 9.44

    and on that note…

a very hungry post indeed Pedro

Chozzer who would have thunk you be the grammar police eh!

  95. Mayank says:

Gambon all the hard nuts were technically skilled.

  96. henry14 says:

The other thing i have been considering is that the Yaya rumours might have some legs.

Remember he can also play in CD which he does for Barca from time to time, so he might think of signing him as a utility player.

That way you have a defender to replace gallas and then yaya to cover both middle and defence?

Not sure really but Wenger loves players that can play different positions.

  97. Bektas says:

Ive got a question, Are gallas’ and Silvestre contracts officially ended?

If so, they are technically not Arsenal players… Yipeeeeeee!!!!

  98. Steven says:

Gooby, your 4-1-2-1-2 formation is a class act, but it has 3 new players(Hart, Cahill & Melo)and Wenger says adding 3 or more players to your starting lineup will disrupt your team!? But AW has been right about many things(predicted the league will be won with about 86 points and Chelsea won it with 86 and he was right!).He has also been wrong about other things; could be a ploy to protect is ‘baby flops’ like Denilson,Walcott and Diaby!

Mark, pls note:”…I think Nasri will come good. He’s too talented to fail”. Sorry, but TALENT IS NEVER ENOUGH!

  99. gambon says:

    Mayank

Well lets buy some technically skilled hard nuts, rather than midget fat ponces.

  100. LAzer says:

I feel like a dirty school boy with a turtle head in class for saying this but Eddie’s time may be up. He gave a leg for us and most probably his entire career so will never ever forget that…but…

    ohhh…sorry I just went.

  101. henry14 says:

You never know with Wenger, with his selections and playing player out of position – Almunia might be our new DM.

  102. KM says:

    Our CF options nxt year:

    1.RvP
    2.Chamakh
    3.Bendtner
    4.Vela

This may be controversial but how many of you think Bendtner is awful and should be shipped off?

I think he’s a Danish Heskey, a marmite and hasn’t yet fully convinced me. He has no pace, awful finishing, no composure in front of goal. However he has good aerial ability, can pass well and can throw his weight around in the box. I think i have given a fair assessment of his game. Do u guys think he’s good enough for Arsenal? Or is it that he is a bit young and needs ANOTHER season to come good?

  103. MickyDidIt89 says:

Henry14: hence Toulalon who can do more than one job.

  104. Arsenal Tom says:

    KM. Hart is 23 mate

  105. LAzer says:

Nasri the next Zidane….whenever he stops feeding the spare tire he’s carrying around and plays more for the team.

  106. henry14 says:

Bendtner definitley is good enough for the Arsenal Squad….i actually like him although he’s frustrating.

I still feel he’s got about another 50% of improvement in him – he’ll be a good player.

  107. henry14 says:

haha, the words Nasri and Zidane are like Dog shit and shoe!

  108. GMR says:

Pedro – That new tax rate in spain won’t affect Ronaldo or any of the foreign footballer’s already there. The clubs have to swallow the increase, it won’t make a blind bit of difference to the players, thats why the clubs fought so hard against it. However, it will make a difference to any foreign players joining this summer or future seasons!!

  109. Arsenal Tom says:

i think vela has to be classed in the arsh/theo wide player bracket, he’s far too small to play CF unless its in a front 2 with bendy or RVP

  110. Pedro says:

LAzer, I’d feel bad if this were thirty years ago… it’s not liked it’s affected his earning that dramatically…. he’ll still be hugely rich come the end of his career.

  111. gambon says:

    Henry

With Yaya & Toure as CB options we could get away with Vermaelen, Campbell & Johan.

I think Song & Toure behind Cesc would be superb, Toure can play a lot more ‘box to box’ than he’s given credit for.

    My first team would be;

    Bouffon

    Sagna -CB- Vermaelen Clichy

    Song Cesc Toure

    Chamakh RVP Arshavin

Which means 4 new players in, Im sure we could afford Buffon, Toure, CB & Chamakh – overall cost of £40m.

  112. KM says:

    henry14

I’m not sure abt the Yaya rumours….simply because we’r linked with him every bloody year and nothing happens. ;)

also like top teams Barca have 2 DM’s…Busquets & Yaya

Not sure they are going to get rid of Yaya…the guy is class and can play DM & CB.

  113. Pedro says:

GMR, so the clubs will have to add 20% to their wage bill?

    Shocking… that’d be £40million for Madrid?

  114. henry14 says:

If Vela has a good world cup and his price goes up – Arsenal will sell him. I would take a bet on that!

He’ll never make it at Arsenal – not a chance.

He’s got skill but he’s better off in Spain.

Reyes was a much better prospect IMO and he couldn’t handle it.

  115. Franchise says:

    portable bone density meter

im trying my best to help the arsenal

  116. LAzer says:

Whats rich got to do with it. They are all rich, richer then most of us am sure. Chap got a broken leg that ended the only thing he has ever known in life. It’d be like taking the Queen’s handwave away. :-)

  117. henry14 says:

    Gambon – definitley.

If Cesc had Song and Toure breaking players in half around him, he would increase his goals and assists.

Feeding Robin – i think you could see 25/30 goals for RVP.

Also you would like to think that with those 2 minding him – Cesc wouldn’t pick up so many injuries!

  118. KM says:

Gambon @ 10.36 like ur team set-up. exactly how i would do it. We need a player like Yaya to give Song a hand because our team is lightweight and we need some serious muscle.

Song will play the anchor role while Yaya will be the bruiser and play more up the pitch

  119. Arsenal Tom says:

the yaya thing is every year… like sebastian frey!!

until wenger or yaya says something about talks or a deal being on the table its all media bullshit for me

  120. Franchise says:

    from chinese suppliers

    http://detail.en.china.cn/provide/detail,1068776380.html

since we are cheap skates we might as well buy from china

  121. henry14 says:

KM – i hear you. Arsenal get linked to so many players, i just think with someone like Yaya there is more legs in it for a number of reasons, but mainly because Wenger knows the player well.

The only thing is, he didn’t sign him from Bevern or whoever for free – so knowing how tight the cunt is he might feel bitter about forking £15m out of him now!

he’d probably see that as someone getting one over on him!

  122. I’ve never rated Yaya that highly personally. But i’m all for a bit of competition in the side and if he brings in something different that fair play.

He does seem to be the Seb Frey of the midfield though, forever headed our way, never arrives.

  123. KM says:

    Henry14

i get the feeling that Vela would be better in a 4-4-2 however the formation has changed and that hasn’t helped the lad.

  124. henry14 says:

also yaya is saying he’ll leave spain this summer himself, previous seasons he’s being saying he’s definitley staying.

Man Shitty is probably more likely as his bro is now there creaming £130K a week!

  125. Arsenal Tom says:

with yaya and song we’d get fucked massively every ACN year though!

going from them 2 to diaby & denilson would be ridiculous

  126. MickyDidIt89 says:

Nice try Franchise, but I’m sick of this techy shit, so I opt for the QoS technique. Have someone kick nine bells out of potential recruits while the man in black stands silently by!
    Kind of SAS selection method.

  127. henry14 says:

I would love to see song and yaya kick that scag head Scottish cunt Fletcher up in the air!!

Even Essien would have a hard time bossing the 2 of them together and that man owns the midfield.

  128. gambon says:

I think Yaya is literally made for the premier league.

  129. mike says:

yaya toure is not good enough i watch barca every week, and melo is just denilson 2 years older, toulalon or scott parker or flamini

  130. gambon says:

Missing 2 players for 4 weeks out of every 104 isnt a huge problem IMO.

  131. ziggy says:

    Jagielka please!

  132. LAzer says:

So the question is, does Wengs stick with his hybrid 433 or whatever the hell that formation is?

Last season he changed midship to prevent goals, this year he didn’t.

    4-2-3-1

    Song and Yaya as DMs

    Chamakh, Cesc, Arshavin

    VP

    What you think?

  133. Pedro says:

Mike, Yaya marshalled the defence of the treble winners!

He is certainly good enough for us and far better than Scott Parker and Flamini!

  134. gambon says:

Lol you cant compare Scott Parker to Melo & Toure.

Thats like saying I hate Aston Martins, get me a Kia.

  135. eduardo says:

LOL I love this Toure thing…..EVERY season he gets linked and every season we end up thinking it MAY happen…would prefer Toulalan given the choice

  136. KM says:

    I’d rather Yaya over Melo.

I only wish Flamini had stayed at Arsenal, he could have become a legend at this club.

Also noticed Wenger’s talking abt buying from the domestic market this year….i think our CB will come from the EPL…i wonder if he’s also looking at a bargain DM from the smaller clubs? we have been linked with quite a few holding players frm Blackburn/West Ham

  137. dutchmaster10 says:

Pleb!!?? Are you sure!!! He is a spuds player at best. Most frustrating player I’ve ever watched. No way would I want him back. I love Nasri and I believe he is going to be a massive player for the arsenal.

  138. gambon says:

    dutchmaster

    Nasri’s already a ‘massive’ player.

  139. eduardo says:

KM: Legend? Flamini? THE Matthieu Flamini?? are you sure? He had ONE good season…Not in the international squad and not even close to the first 11 of A VERY AVERAGE ITALIAN TEAM…plus hes a cunt ; )

  140. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Even more massive, Dutch? Wow.

  141. LAzer says:

    dutchmaster you smoke too much!

  142. MickyDidIt89 says:

Beat me to it Gambon. Sorry

  143. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Lazer: its Shmoke in Dutch

  144. GMR says:

Pedro – For some reason and it does seem somewhat stupid, but previously when the spanish clubs drew up contracts for the foreign players it always included a clause that should tax rise the clubs would cover it so it didn’t affect the players wages. It’ll be expensive for Real Madrid particularly but I think it’s the smaller clubs that will suffer.

On another subject, the Juventus fans are going mad because it’s been leaked out there that Arsenal have agreed a deal with them for Buffon. Apparently it’s being reported that he may not even play their final league match now. I’ve seen their fans slating us asking why he wants to join a ‘square’ team (whatever that means) & others asking why he’s joining a team that can’t win the CL.

  145. gambon says:

    Shmoke n’ a pancake.

  146. LAzer says:

You know this one is coming…

“Yaya says no no to Arsenal”

  147. Franchise says:

flamini was a key memeber in our best team post 2004

quite a lot of wenger players are average and would look more average elsewhere than at us

    would Song start for Milan?

    I doubt it

  148. Arsenal Tom says:

id take scotty parker but he’s not yaya. he’s very busy and shows more heart in 90 mins at west ham than diaby and denilson do all season.

we need to buy players with heart and fight more than any other quality this summer

  149. KM says:

    spurs after Fabiano

    http://www.sport.co.uk/news/Football/38071/Prolific_Brazilian_tipped_for_London_move.aspx

i can see them paying over the odds for him and paying crazy wages. Spurs dnt think like Arsenal when it comes to transfers

  150. Geoff Strong says:

Schwartzer ? If Fabianski had made the mistake he made on Sunday you would be baying for his blood. Not the first mistake he has made this season either.

Fabianski will be a great goalkeeper, maybe not at Arsenal unfortunately after the ridiculous response he got from some Arsenal ‘fans’.

  151. Pedro says:

GMR, if we signed Buffon, that would represent one of the greatest Wenger signings of his career!

Bold, full of quality and a real morale booster for everyone.

  152. LAzer says:

wtf is a square team…the old lady has finally lost her marbles.

  153. Pedro says:

His agent has come out in the last hour to deny the reports according to Goal.com

  154. Arsenal Tom says:

flam would be the midfield engine we need with song ‘the sitter’ and fab doing the fancy stuff.

we need a runner in there

  155. gambon says:

    Geoff Strong

Its worth noting that Fabianksi makes a mistake EVERY SINGLE TIME he plays.

He isnt just error prone, he is absolutely shocking.

  156. Pedro says:

    LAzer… a square… you know… a nerd / geek at school.

  157. Jaguar says:

    Yaya would be wonderful.

    Song

    Mikel—Yaya/Melo—-Arshavin

    RVP-Bendtner
    Assuming Fab leaves.

Chamakh to come off the bench(he is not going to score anyways).

  158. LAzer says:

You know Wenger will be sticking with Flappy all the way Pedro…deep down we all do..

But tis the season to hope and pray..

  159. Arsenal Tom says:

geoff s… one mistake a season isnt a big deal when you’ve been top class all year.

at least 1 and usually 2 every game is a big big problem mate

  160. Franchise says:

i like the look of some DM that gambon posted on here the other day

cant remember his name but he playes in france and is about 21

  161. MickyDidIt89 says:

    KM
The only people that “think like Arsenal when it comes to transfers” are the Directores of Pound Stretchers. Hence my modest transfer predictions.

  162. gambon says:

    Etienne Capoue Franchise.

Yeah, he’s a beast, and a yellow card machine! Just what we need.

  163. KM says:

Here’s the links to the Yaya stories

    http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/football/825970-yaya-toure-could-transfer-to-arsenal-with-barcelona-open-to-offers?

    http://www.goal.com/en/news/12/spain/2010/05/13/1922222/yaya-toure-90-per-cent-certain-to-leave-barcelona-this?

If Yaya was to leave, wouldn’t Chelsea/Inter Milan/City bid for him???? We aren’t the only club in the world folks.

However I can see that Yaya is a bit cheesed off because Barca prefer playing Busquets as the DM over Yaya

  164. GMR says:

Pedro – We’ll have to wait and see. His agent could be telling the truth or he could be trying to stop any abuse or bad reactions at the weekend. In Italy they are reporting it as fact, their fans obviously think it’s true because what I saw of them on the Italian Sky they are going mad.

  165. KM says:

    Eduardo @ 10.50

whether you admit it or not Flamini was immense in his last 2 years. His partnership with Cesc in the midfield was sensational. I have no doubts that if Flamini had stayed he would’v been a gr8 player for us.

  166. gambon says:

    KM

So why should we roll over and let these other teams buy him?

We are the third most valuable club in the world, 5th Richest etc, if we want him we should show some ambition & sign him.

He’s said he wants to play in the PL, he’s said he wants to play for Arsenal many times, what more do we want?

  167. LAzer says:

no ones said you’re a square since Queen’s version…thus the Old Lady resurrects it. No surprise.

  168. MickyDidIt89 says:

French, 21 and no-one’s ever heard of him. Yip, could be our man!

  169. gambon says:

We all know its hip to be square.

  170. LAzer says:

last two years?? What you on about? He wasn’t even playing in midfield regular till his last year and then the ungrateful cunt fucked off to warm some Italian benches.

  171. Franchise says:

4-1-3-2 would suit us better IMO than a 4-3-3. well if not then we should mix it up with a 433

A would soon jump out from hiding and say we would never go back to 442 :D

    RB—–CB———CB—–LB

    ————DM

    AM/Winger—- CM—-AM/winger

    ———-SS

    —————-CF———-

Arshavin could fill one of the wide positions, Cesc as CM, VP and Chamakh upfront, Song in the DM, NAsri, Walcott, Rosicky can occupy the other wide spot

  172. KM says:

I agree that Fabianksi is fucking awful!!!!

Him and Alumnia should be sold asap.

if we get Buffon i will be delirious ;) however when’s the last time we bought a superstar player in their prime?

  173. bnsb says:

id take scotty parker but he’s not yaya. he’s very busy and shows more heart in 90 mins at west ham than diaby and denilson do all season.

And Parker has long range shots, no one else has.

  174. Pedro says:

haha! Geoff Strong must be a casual Arsenal fan to take an attitude like that to the most gaff prone keeper in history.

Schwarzer is part of a Fulham defence that has been superb this year and fired them to the Europa Cup Final.

All the Auzzie’s rave about him as do the Fulham fans.

He’s a top keeper and he’d make a good stop gap.

‘Fans’ like you, if you had your way would hold the club back because you accept below average.

  175. LAzer says:

Wasn’t everyone getting wet over Lorik Cana around this time last year for the very same reasons??

Good thing we dodged that bullet eh.

  176. KM says:

    Lazer

he was awesome as LB as well when Ashley was injured. I know many ppl are angry with the way he left…i am too but i’m just saying that he was the engine of our side. After he left our midfield was shite

  177. LAzer says:

    read…..Arshavin…Jan 09 KM

  178. Franchise says:

NAsri could play CM also, Arshavin could play as a SS, Walcott could also play either as CF or SS

the 2 forwards combining is key IMO

we have mostly played like this under wenger

Fine. When we away against the tough teams of this world then we can employ a 433/451

FFS Tottenham beat us and chelsea with 442. Having 3 in the middle is no guarantee of dominating the game

MAnUtd mostly play 2 upfront at home

Well we’ll see what AW does next season

  179. KM says:

Buffon agent goes public on move talk

    http://www.sport.co.uk/news/Football/38174/Buffon_agent_goes_public_on_move_talk.aspx

Buffon’s agent saying that he’s not moving ?

  180. MickyDidIt89 says:

    What about lining up 4-1-3-1.5-.5

  181. Jaguar says:

KM,Lorik Cana would have better than the retards in crime together,Diaby and Denilson

  182. LAzer says:

You’re right about him being the engine, esp when he played in mid, all I am saying is he really only had one good year. True he didn’t get a shot in mid before then so who’s to blame for that but he was not ‘great’ for two years imo.

  183. KM says:

Krasic leaving CSKA this year. Bayern & ManU after him

    http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2565/exclusives/2010/05/12/1920200/manchester-united-and-bayern-munich-leading-chase-for-15m/comments

Imo he’s a v.good player from what i seen of him. He would fit in gr8 at Bayern esp. with ribery leaving.

  184. Walking Wounded says:

Its funny that we always read about who we are interested in but rarely hear about who are interested in our players.

Goal.com state that CSKA want Eduardo
    Hamburg want Rosicky
With Gallas, Senderos, Silvestre and Merida going from the squad and Hopefully keeper changes, we should have around 15 million extra to spend plus lots of wages.

I can see that those six only need to be replaced by 4 quality players add a new keeper and Chamakh plus one other for a net spend of around 60 million strikes me as minimum requirements

  185. gambon says:

I think we would have been more successful with Lorik Cana in the squad than without.

  186. LAzer says:

right Jag…and my left nut sleeps over at Scarlett Johansson’s on the weekends.

  187. Arsenal Tom says:

    legend campbell…

“I fancy staying, of course I do,” he told Arsenal.com.

“I want to stay and I want to give it my all for at least another year. I could do two but the manager never gives out two. We always want a little bit more! Give me one year and I’ll work every day and try to win a trophy and bring some kind of glory back to Arsenal.

“Deep inside I feel I’ve got two real gritty years left in me, the years in which I can affect things. If I’m in the team I can really make a difference. I know that. And after two years I will look at it again and we’ll see.

“After that I might only be able to play games here and there, who knows, but I think I can be an influence and be positive and win games and be strong for two years.”

Wenger confirmed last month that he would sit down and discuss Campbell’s future at the end of the season. The player himself is keen to reach an agreement and it appears the process has already begun.

“We will sit down, it has started and we will try to thrash something out,” said Campbell.

“The negotiations are either going to be done in a week or two or it might take until July – you just don’t know how things will pan out. We’ll have to see how Arsène sees me at the Club.”

  188. B.B.K says:

  195. Jay says:

True Hleb’s shooting was shocking but he made up for it in other things he was just…..class! I’d take him over nasri any day also. And true nasri has the potential to be great but he just doesn’t seem interested.

As for toulalan to be honest I wouldn’t want to see him at our club unless it was for a very very low price I’ve seen Lyon play many times and I just never been impressed by toulalan seems like a slightly better version then denilson. I hope Wenger gets rid of denilson.

Theo has had a disappointing season and I don’t know if he truly deserves a world cup spot. Wenger should have someone like Eden Hazard, If you mixed a player like Hleb and Ronaldo then you would probably make a player like Hazard people saying he’ll be the next ronaldo. I don’t think he’ll be fully like that diving prick ronaldo

And well yes we all know our defense and our keepers is what we most need to improve on but I would still love to have someone new in our mid!

    Come on you Gunners!
Next season is our season of Glory!

  196. I do love Sol.

I’m becoming more and more convinced that Jaguar is some sort of spambot – “retards in crime?” its just random mixing of insulting sounding words now!

  197. Pedro says:

QoS, look at him like you do you’re grandparents when they go a little senile…

  198. Any suggestions for a shirt for hubby? I won a fantasy league thing and get to pick a shirt. He’s already got Arsenal kits and would refuse to wear the white one.

    Really stuck for ideas!

  199. OK Pedro – i’m looking at him and reaching for a pillow as per your instruction….

  200. LAzer says:

Hazard is 5’7″ if we get him cue everyone saying why the hell we bought another midget..if he takes long to adjust or loses form for a month.

  201. Stu says:

Average Italian team? AC are one of the biggest teams in the world (maybe not quality wise anymore but whatever) and finished 3rd in Serie A. Also, Flamini isnt getting as much games time as he should be because he has Pirlo, Gattuso and Ambrosini (the latter 2 being club captain and vice captain).

  202. Jaguar says:

QOS.Diaby and Denilson are not good enough to be Arsenal players.Enough said.

  203. KM says:

I’m a bit unsure of the Yaya deal. This season he’s found himself 2nd choice to Busquets at Barca but is still getting a lot of gametime. He’s won a lot with Barca and knows that they are equipped to keep winning for the future.

Does he jump ship to Arsenal who have won jackshit for the last 5/6 yrs and aren’t on the same level as ManU/Chelsea? Or can Wenger persuade him that we are going to challenging again with Chamakh & another CB on the way? Also dnt forget we have a rigid wage structure…..

  204. henry14 says:

It’s Spur’s Bench that’s super strong……….i mean it has to be for that FAT CUNT HUDDLESTONE to sit on it.

  205. Stu says:

About the post. I think Arsenal should sign me. I can play all across the back and at DM, 6ft 2 and comfortable with both feet. Sorted! I wouldnt ask for much monies either.

  206. LAzer says:

    Toffs maybe QoS?

  207. Stu says:

KM, i think Toure would move if only because he would play more regularly. I hope he’s the type of player that is swayed by football rather than just success without much involvement.

  208. ikon says:

gigi buffon buy will be the right attitude shown by the arsenal board at this time.
Confidence in the board has never been so low. They have to take responsible and make up for it.

  209. KM says:

Walcott would kill it in a 4-4-2 as a striker…. however i dnt think Wenger is going to change that unless/until Fabregas leaves…and i can’t bare to see him run down a blind alley again and again on the Right Wing. In an ideal world OR in MY ideal world ;) i’d love us to sign a deal with Lille/Hazard that he will come to us in a year or 2 and bring Hleb back on the right wing ;)

  210. I’m thinking maybe Fabregas on a Spain shirt possibly?

    Zico on a brazil?

Van Persie on holland? Really am struggling though!

  211. Stu says:

QoS, can you wait until next seasons shirt comes out. That would be a nice gift. Other than that could you get him a retro shirt. Or is it just shirts for this season?

  212. Pedro says:

    Jaguar, stop being childish.

If you want to post… do it with out the abuse. It’s very boring.

  213. Jaguar says:

QOS?Which spammer or WUM would spend every day for about six months on a website? Its just that I dont like Denilson,Diaby or Wenger.

  214. John A says:

QoS – Buffon on an Italy shirt ;-) or how about an Arsenal training top. Some of them are really cool.

  215. Stu says:

Pedro, can you moderate Jags comments so he cant use Wenker, french or retards? WOuld help somewhat.

  216. gambon says:

    QoS

    What about an Oranje shirt?

I have an RVP one, they are the nuts.

  217. MickyDidIt89 says:

    QoS, Brasil Retro 10 works.

  218. bnsb says:

    Jaguar, stop being childish.

If you want to post… do it with out the abuse. It’s very boring.

Haha Pedro! That should reform him!

  219. Franchise says:

Can we send Jaguar to the reality program ‘Ladettes to Ladies’?

    :D

  220. Pedro says:

Jaguar, we’re all aware of who you don’t like… why don’t you try talking about something else?

  221. Sadly, i can’t wait til next sesasons comes out, and the site doesn’t really offer much by way of training tops i’m pretty limited to national and club sides current home and away shirts…

I shouldn’t be finding this that hard!

The USA away is quite nice, i suppose…

  222. Arsenal Tom says:

QoS… id go holland to… with RVP there plus the past links to them they are most gooners 2nd team

  223. MickyDidIt89 says:

KM: not sure about the rigid wage structure. We found £200,000/wk for TH.

  224. LAzer says:

USA! USA! USA! Alright just shoot me now…

    and with that…

    I am off.

  225. KM says:

    Beware of Hazard

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-GtbpCPiGg

like his goal. His speed with the ball/close control is very good and he can beat a man and what i like about him is that he tries to beat the opposition player. He is also versatile and can play LW and RW. However he would need to bulk imo for the EPL.

Get 1st refusal on this kid Wenger. Sell Rosicky nxt year and get this kid in ;)

  226. Big Dave says:

This is what I have been told.

We are looking at getting in a new keeper.

    May buy 2 CB

    1 DM

Chamackh obviously which is very close to be announced, prob early next week.

    Gallas gone along with Traore

  227. eduardo says:

Stu: AC Meeelan ARE AVerage! their league is the worst of the top crop of european leagues and they have been in reverse for years!
They have a great history, so what? so do liverpool… you say maybe not quality wise…thats my fucking point! so if by yur own admission they lack quality….why doesnt he start???? hes a water carrier…hard worker and legs…gee whizz! Fuck him! another average merc

  228. Grimandi says:

Lets get Forlan, Reyes and Aguero!!

  229. JGooner says:

you mention players taking time to come back physically as well as mentally after have a broken leg.. Is everyone forgetting nasri had his leg broken in the summer??

Everyone wanted helb to go and now they want him back. its ridiculas. yeah he was a good dribbler and passer but our team is full of them. And with little if not any end product.

Nasri is one of these players but has that end product in front of goal. Nasri all day and everyday for me. he will be amazing but needs time he is still so young. not everyone is in the league of Cesc as we are finding out with walcott, bentner and others

  230. eduardo says:

aguero and rvp upfront : ))))))) happy days

  231. We can’t get Forlan – Franchise hates him.

  232. Pedro says:

JGooner… firstly, Nasri didn’t snap his leg. Secondly, if he did, his form this year would hardly be a counter argument to me saying players with broken limbs take longer than a year to return to form.

  233. Jaguar says:

We didnt pay 200k for TH,MDit89.It was more of 120k and a bonus.Effectively it was equivalent to 200k per week though.

  234. KM says:

    Re. Hazard

he’s said that he prefers Real/Arsenal

He’s also said that he doesn’t want to move yet so that would be ideal imo.

  235. Jaguar says:

Whats with this stupid so called rigidity of wage structure? We overpay our shite players anyways. So why dont we reduce their pay and give it to deserving players.

  236. Grimandi says:

Diego Forlan is one of the best strikers in world football and he will tear premier league defenders to shreds!

I thought Hangeland was a good defender but after watching him strugle agains the pace and skill of Forlan and Aguero, I’m not so sure why we wanted him last year.
His reading of the game is poor and he has no passing attributes. Only thing about him is his size!

When forlan was at Mancs, he never had a run of games, then they say the player could not handle the premier league. what a load of tosh, players gain confidance from playing week in week out!

    Forlan for Arsenal!!!

  237. Stu says:

He doesnt start becausre the club captain plays in his position. Maybe its got something to do with the manager, i havent a clue. If you ask me he should be starting because Gattuso is past it and Flamini would add much needed energy and pace in the middle. Definately should have started when they lose to Milan.

  238. Grimandi says:

Forlan reminds me of Dennis Bergkamp! although he will never be as good as Dennis, touch wise!

  239. Stu says:

JGooner, Nasri broke his leg but when he did return to the team he scored 2 in 4…incidently both in the CL. I dont think the fracture can be blamed for his poor season. Maybe his spare tire needs deflating.

  240. Jaguar says:

Grimandi, great strikers dont miss open nets.

  241. bnsb says:

Read somewhere that Nasri loves cooking. Well, the taste of pudding …

  242. Stu says:

Forlan rarely played at UNited. Its no suprise he is considered a failure.

  243. Franchise says:

    great a Forlan love in

I think I wanna join in

    Forlan is King

  244. chozzer says:

    Senderos on a Swiss shirt?

  245. Grimandi says:

  246. Grimandi says:

    Join in Fran!

  247. Big Dave says:

Forlan, forget it, the only striker coming is Chamackh

  248. 78692 says:

    Morning

I think that Yaya will move.I have read somewhere that he has a clause in his contract that includes Barca paying him a big bonus if he was to play over 60% of the games. Barca are trying to avoid paying this bonus hence the lack of games Yaya has played.

  249. gambon says:

    In

    Buffon
    Westermann
    Toure
    Chamakh

    Out

    Fabianski
    Hoyte
    Gilbert
    Traore
    Randall
    Barazite
    Simpson
    Eduardo
    Vela

  250. Grimandi says:

STu- he was playing 2 mins here and there at united. completely ignored by Fergie.

He has great movement, great 2 feet and always takes a shot.

    Thats what we need.

  251. rob green says:

Big Dave 11:39 – i cant see wenger getting 4 players!! i hope i am wrong!!

  252. Franchise says:

at almost 31, Forlan is still quite sharp i think he can do it for another 3 years at this level

but if chams coming in then there is really no room for another CF

especially if he wld be an costly 30 yr old

    Forlan is sublime though

  253. bnsb says:

Barca are trying to avoid paying this bonus hence the lack of games Yaya has played.

They could do the same to Cesc

  254. Franchise says:

    ** a costly

  255. eduardo says:

fair point Stu…agreed. and also yes, Gattuso is past it..shame i used to rate him.
So who will take the poisoned chalice that is Meelan.. I mean that in terms of they need a whole fucking team rebuild! bar Pato and a couple of others

  256. eduardo says:

    VELA TO STAY!
    carlos Vela, vela
    our mexican superstar
    hes better than Cantona
    carlos vela, vela

  257. Grimandi says:

The only problem with Forlan is the guy gets too man yellow cards, not for tackling but he’s always taking his shirt off and that means he will miss 2 games a month.

  258. Grimandi says:

VELA VELA VELA!! Must be funny in the Poor mans world! (Wenger)

  259. Franchise says:

Forlan is the best two footed striker I know

  260. 78692 says:

    Toure tipped for Barca exit

    http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11670_6150718,00.html

“Unfortunately, this season, Toure has not played as much as I would have liked. I think that this is due to a clause in his contract.

“He has a major financial bonus if he plays more than 60 per cent of official matches this season.”

  261. bnsb says:

    Now, Gallas to spuds?

  262. Stu says:

Why did they make it a bookable offence to take a shirt off or pull it over your head? Surely it should be legal, as long as you’re arent advertising for money. TH used to just have messages to friends written on a t-shirt. I see no problem with that. Its not like he profited from it.

  263. Walking Wounded says:

Wages won’t be a problem this year, as if all the free agents go, and I can see no point in keeping any of them (Campbell aside) then that will free up £150k per week and have we really spent the wages earned by Adebayor and Toure?

We can afford to up the “rigid wage structure” a little bit to attract the best no problem.

  264. gambon says:

Dont you think its time Wenger stopped letting people run their contract down and leave for free.

    Its ridiculous.

    Flamini, Senderos, Gallas, Pires, Campbell.

Its like the man actually doesnt want money, he is obsessed with being a cheap cunt.

  265. Walking Wounded says:

    No to Forlan

He wears an Alice Band and even Cesc grew out of that phase of his career.

  266. Grimandi says:

Fran- toatally agree mate, he a right footed player who scores most of his goals with his left foot. how good is that.

Stu, I think they banned taking off t-shirts because of politics! none sense, seems like forlan doesnt care anyways coz he always doing it.

  267. Grimandi says:

    WW – ahahhaha

  268. gambon says:

    Walking Wounded.

When Ade & Toure left it wiped £7.5m off the wage bill, but we still managed to increase it by £17m.

So a £24.5m increase in real terms.

Yet another example of Wengers bizarre management.

  269. Franchise says:

    Gambon 80k a week is about £4m a year

  270. Dutchman says:

Fabregas won’t leave i think. Every facking year it is the same!! Fabregas was (if you must believe the reports)a barca player last year. But he isn’t!!
If we sell fabregas now, it will be the most stupid thing ever.
Also tottenham are going to sign big, and what i don’t get is that tottenham spend big but they don’t have the same money as us, we have much more money but we don’t spend it and tottenham has also much money but not as much as us. But they spend 60m!!!
And we 10m!!!!! I hate this, every time i think to this, then i’am confused. How can it that arsenal doesn’t spend the money they get?? I don’t get it!!
And the Stadium is not the problem anymore! It’s just wenger!!

  271. Jon says:

Just wanted to drop by and say hello to all Grovers. Been really busy preparing for my proficiency check (once in every half a year). Wish me luck mates.

  272. gambon says:

    Franchise, yes i know!

  273. Wenger the liar says:

    Stu -

The photos on back pages are usually of the guy after he has just scored. Companies pay millions to have their names on players chests so that they get seen on the back pages and in replays on the news etc etc.

  274. Franchise says:

looks like fergie is after Milner

  275. Grimandi says:

If players run down thier contracts and want to leave Arsenal FC then they can F off!

I think if a player loves the club and the fans, he will do what ever it takes to stay (Eboue) however ppl like cashley, flamini just wanted to go for more money so i’m with wenger on that one. If you dont want to stay and the only reason you would stay is for more money, then Xxx off!!

  276. Franchise says:

good luck Jon. I have no clue what u need the luck for but it seems to be important

  277. Stu says:

WTL, yeah but my point is, if they arent advertising anything then should be it a bookable offence.

  278. gambon says:

good luck with your cycling proficiency test Jon!

  279. KM says:

    well well well

it seems the Yaya exit reports are spreading

    hmmmm….will Wenger go for him?

  280. In the space of two posts then gambon.

You first had a go at Wenger for allowing contracts to run down.

Then you had a go at Wenger for extending contracts.

Psychologists call the condition where you can hold two conflicting views on the same subject as cognitive dissonance. It usually ends badly.

  281. KM says:

Actually if YAYA is available then Arsenal should pull out all the stops to get him. He is the missing link in midfield

  282. Milner to UNited is a done deal Franchise. I heard £22m.

  283. Yaya to the Spuds?

  284. rob green says:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/a/arsenal/8679916.stm

“My transfer policy this summer will be to keep our strengths going forward, add one player, and add more defensive strength to our team.”

Does this mean we are only buying two players?
So an attacking player which will be chamakh and then one defender? That’s what it sounds like!!

  285. Big Dave says:

    Rob G.

    Wait and see I suppose.

We are defo getting in 1 CB to partner TV5, Maybe the other one is will be just pure back up, no big name tho. I might be wrong and wont put my house on it but I think the DM is Yaya.

Arsenal.com have not yet run a story about him yet being on the “transfer linked”

  286. I thought missing link was a more accurate description of Tevez personally KM!!

  287. gambon says:

    QoS

No that isnt what I said at all, you are looking to defend something that isnt there.

Extending contracts is a good idea sometimes (depends on quality of player). Increasing players pay after they repeatedly let the club down is very different.

This squad wins nothing, and collectively get a £24m payrise?

If you think thats good business then good luck to you in life.

    The senderos situation is pathetic.

  288. eduardo says:

Englands number TWO I read it like one upfront a “several” for defence…

  289. He doesn’t mention defensive numbers there Rob??

He says one forward – which we all know is the big mac chack attack.

And then defensive strength…that could mean anything it could mean a DM a CB and a GK for example.

  290. gambon says:

    rob green

I think he will add more than one defensive player, he doesnt talk numbers.

Almost certainly a GK & CB at the very least.

  291. Dutchman says:

rob g,??? What are you talking about???
He said one attacking player(chamakh) and more defensive players. It’s very obvious! Read it again.

  292. GoonerT1m says:

QOS – How about a polish goal keeper’s shirt?

  293. Pedro says:

Rob, haven’t you posted that quote about 6 times in the last day?

  294. Wenger the liar says:

    Stu -

No you dont understand what I am saying, it doesnt matter if the player has a commercial sponsor underneath his shirt. Emirates pay millions to have their name on our shirt, the time when it is going to recieve most exposure is after a goal is scored, photos highlights on the news etc, if the player removes his shirt the commercial sponsor doesnt get that exposure regardless of what the player is wearing underneath.

  295. gambon says:

    Chamakh is useless though!

  296. Stu says:

We pay the players for what they could do, rather than what they have done.

  297. rob green says:

We need a centre back as it stands so if gallas leaves we will need two!!

He doesn’t mention defensive numbers there Rob??

He does he says ”and add more defensive strength to our team”

  298. Gambon – i just quaoted you. It didn’t need me to contradict you because you did it to yourself!

At 12:06 you said it was time Wenger stopped letting people run down their contract and leave for free.

Then at 12:08 you said it was bizarre management to increase wage costs through new contracts…

Don’t worry about me in my life – i’m doing fine…I’m much more worried by this whole congnitive dissonance thing you’re developing! :-)

  299. bnsb says:

And then defensive strength…that could mean anything it could mean a DM a CB and a GK for example.

    Or all three, hopefully!

  300. T1m – i’d like to stay married thanks!

  301. rob green says:

Pedro – No mate unless your seeing double vision i posted once at 10:17!!

  302. Stu says:

Oh right WTL. I was going the other way with it completely. I was thinking of a player revealing their own advertising rather than what they would be hiding (club sponsers). Got it now..but i dont see why the FA uefa would care about that.

  303. rob green says:

Dutchman 12:21 – sorry i misread it i am losing the plot :)

  304. Jaguar says:

    gambon Says:
    May 13, 2010 at 12:06

Dont you think its time Wenger stopped letting people run their contract down and leave for free.
    ————————————

The strange thing is he ties up all the shit players with better contracts and lets the quality players go.

  305. eduardo says:

Wengler teh Liar: agreed but to be fair Emirates pay FUCK ALL……in comparison .
LOL I love gazidis.. ” our shirt deal was front loaded to pay for stadia etc…we will now re-negotitae to reflect our standing against other shirt deals with the best clubs”..

    AFTER his emairates meeting?
” Yep, were fucked. Its water-tight homes!” im para-phrasing of course ; )

  306. Jon says:

Just wanted to say hello to all Grovers. Been busy with preparation for my proficiency check (once in every 6 months). Wish me luck mates.

  307. eduardo says:

    No Jon, No

  308. gambon says:

    QoS

Do you not think its poor management to increase a group of players pay from £95.5m to £120m after theyve just scraped 4th in the PL & won nothing for years?

Extending contracts is fine, rewarding failure is wrong, and has become a theme at the club from the board down.

Wenger goes on about financial doping all the time, yet is as guilty as anyone in football of it.

  309. eduardo says:

Gambon.. I guess all the other 100′s of clubs that do not win their league title, domestic cup(s) OR a euro cup DONT increase pay?
thats just the way it is….

  310. Franchise says:

Wenger said this in 2008 after we lost the titles

    Drugs are bad lol

    http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/wenger-this-is-the-best-team-i-ve-ever-had

  311. No gambon – i don’t, because I think its better to tie them to contracts in order to get a fee if we decide they are surplus to requirements.

The thing is, so do you it would appear!

Which is your actual view on the matter because I can’t work it out. Are you now saying we shouldn’t have them sign new contracts and therefore have them leave for free at the end of them?

  312. Jaguar says:

Eduardo, they dont reward better contracts to shit players like Wenger does.

  313. I’m glad you’ve cleaned up your posts Jaguar. I feel i can take you a lot more seriously now!

  314. Stu says:

The issue i have with the contract extensions is that despite the huge number that were extended we still have Gallas, Senderos and Merida all leaving for nothing and EBoue with 1 year left.

Granted these players arent all fan favourites but they are first teamers and could fetch us a fee million each. We increased contracts that werent running out soon and i think mostly youth player contracts but neglected some of the first teamers. Thats what i dont understand.

  315. Pedro says:

    Good like Jon!

Jaguar, we signed up pretty much the whole squad and let Merida, Gallas and Silvestre go… no big deal really.

  316. Jaguar says:

QOS.If Wenker ties down shite players like Diaby overpaying them, undermining the team’s success, and after the contract runs out they leave for free. No team, would be ready to pay anything for clowns like him.So we end up overpaying them and earning nothing.

  317. bnsb says:

Can someone explain how El Hadji Diouff is on 80000 a week?

  318. Jaguar says:

Pedro, what was the point in handing improved contracts to clowns like Denilson and Diaby, when they didnt deserve it.

  319. Jaguar says:

I think we should have kept Merida and Gallas, and let Diaby,Denilson and Almunia go.

  320. Wenger the liar says:

    Stu -

    Look at it like this:

Sony President “When the players remove their shirts you cant see the sponsors logo anymore, we have noticed this with our sponsorship of club X”

Fifa president “Yes but scoring a goal is very emotional, you cant stop players from celebrating”

Sony President “I think that we should really find a way to stop them taking off their tops after scoring”

Fifa president “As I said it would be very difficult to convince players to keep their shirts on, its part of the game”

Sony President “How did you guys spend that £500m we paid to sponsor the world cup…..”

Fifa president “I suppose we could start booking players that remove their shirts”

Something along the lines of that convo ;-)

  321. Pedro says:

Stu, we were greedy with Senderos… I’ll give you that.

We should have taken the £1.5mill we were offered last year.

  322. We offered new contracts to the players that have ran out (except Silvestre it would appear).

They opted not to sign them, which is their right.

Otherwise if i’m not mistaken players like Eduardo and Rosicky could have left us for nothing this summer as well…you can’t tell me that would be good business!

  323. gambon says:

    QoS

    My views;

    - We shouldntlet players walk away for free
    - We should tie good players to contracts
    - We shouldnt pay more to players that win nothing
    - We are financial doping more than Chelsea

Lets look at who really deserved a payrise after last season…..Gibbs & RVP, thats about it.

As for Walcott, Denilson, Diaby, Vela, Eduardo, Fabianski and all the others who got new deals, offer them the same & if they wont sign sell them.

  324. Jaguar says:

Can someone explain why Almunia is on 40k a week, for that matter, why is he even being paid? :)

  325. Stu says:

We apparently pay a player based on what they might achieve rather than what they have achieved. It would be easier to understand if we actually payed players based on what they’ve won and can win us.

We have all probably read West Hams leaked wages. Jack Collison is apparently on 2,000 a week. Thats absolutely shocking. He will be a top class player at his peak imo. I cant believe he is on so little when someone like Upson is on 70k. Even Deprela is on 10k and he has about 10 appearances.

  326. gambon says:

So Eduardo was on a 2 year contract? I doubt it.

  327. Points one and two contradict each other gambon.

Just by inserting the word “good” doesn’t mean that they don’t.

And actually three is contradictory as well…

Using your framework, what do we do with a good player that wants a payrise but hasn’t won anything?

  328. Arsenal Tom says:

eddie got a renewal for being a nice guy and maybe as some kind of sympathy vote for the leg break

  329. Franchise says:

its funny how every year since 2008 Wenger has come out saying he has identified the problem with the team. DEFENCE

but we end up conceding more the next season

would the pattern persist into 2010/11?

    hmmmmmm

  330. Stu says:

Exactly Pedro. That 1.5 million would have been much better than keeping him, paying him wages and getting no fee when he leaves on a fee. We havent even been playing him ffs so the club gained absolutely nothing by not selling him.

Similarly with Gallas, i said last summer he should be sold and used the little bit of money we got to buy a long term CB. As it happened he missed a third of the season on high wages and now we have nothing coming in when he does leave. Therefore it will cost us more to replace him.

  331. bnsb says:

eddie got a renewal for being a nice guy and maybe as some kind of sympathy vote for the leg break

Or fear of a law suit?

  332. He could buy himself out gambon if he wanted to with one year remaining…

  333. Stu says:

    *on a free! Damn typos!

  334. CS1 says:

Hey man you have got it so wrong about Nasri, he is going to become world class, mark my words, i see things in him that makes me believe this and another thing, Nasri is a fighter, he is no pussy, thats one reason he will stay in the EPL, he loves to kick people to and if any one watches him will know that.

  335. I doubt Eddie got a pay rise to be honest, maybe cost of living plus a bit but probably not much more..that would still increase his costs as we would now need to ammort for the length of his longer contract.

  336. Stu says:

Notable times Nasri has kicked out/fought:

1: Arsenal vs Newcastle. Kicked Barton in retaliation for an earlier foul. Brilliant! becuase we all hate Barton and Nasri showed he wasnt gonna get kicked around.

2: Arsenal vs Hull: Stood on some players foot, reason unknown. Guess?- he was being childish because the player wouldnt move away from the ball.

3: hmmmm….. fighting for the last slice of swissroll at the end of season party…the fat Ponce!!

  337. Jaguar says:

QOS?Out of the improved contracts handed out to 17 players, not more than five deserve it.

  338. gambon says:

    QoS

No they dont contradict eachother at all. Im saying we should reward improvement & success, youre saying we should just give everyone payrises regardless.

I am looking at it to a different point of view to you. You are suggesting we should do all we can to tie players down, including paying through the roof for retards like Denilson & Fabianski.

Lets take Denilson for example, we shouldve offered him whatever he was on, if he said no, we sell him, thats what I would do.

Your mentality would be to say: “hey Denilson, youve been great this year, im giving you £25k a week more, please sign”

As I said, we ‘financial dope’ far more than any team.

  339. Big Raddy says:

    Fine post Pedro

May I be the first to point out that the 2010/11 season marks a significant anniversary

It will be 40 years since THFC were Champions….

“You won the League in Black and White…….”

  340. Stu says:

In fairness if Eduardo gets anything more than a cup of tea he is over the moon.

  341. gambon says:

    lol Stu.

He does love his swiss roll that fat ponce.

  342. Arsenal Tom says:

fran, unless someone else comes in (keown) then i cant see it getting much better… not to a title winning standard anyway

  343. Jaguar. Please expand on that.

Which 17 got new contracts. Which 5 deserved it and why? Why didn’t the 12 deserve new contracts?

And finally what would have happened re: sell on fees etc if they had not been offered new contracts?

  344. gambon says:

    Raddy

We did the double in 70/71! Not the scum.

  345. Franchise says:

NAsri is also one of the worst dressed Arsenal players

  346. Big Raddy says:

    Gambon. It is my maths!!!

It is 50 years. A half century!!

  347. Stu says:

Thats because he cant get good clothes to fit him properly Fran.

  348. Franchise says:

oh i see hence his preference for silk

  349. MickyDidIt89 says:

Franchise: and that’s up against some pretty stiff opposition!

  350. KM says:

    Milner to ManU for £22?

seems like a good deal to me. young talented player.

ManU lacked a spark in midfield last year. With Scholes over the hill, he’l fit in well to their 3 man midfield:

    Rooney
    Nani Valencia
    Milner

    Carrick Fletcher

  351. gambon says:

Hard to find good clothes in XXXL

  352. Franchise says:

    lol MDI89

some serious competition but NAsri is runaway leader

  353. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Elasticated trousers

  354. I’ve not said anything about reward gambon – that’s what a bonus structure is for.

What i’m saying is Wenger is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t.

You slate him for tying people down to new contracts and you slate him when he doesn’t. Unless in your subjective opinion they “deserve it”.

For example. Merida. You slated Wenger for letting him walk for free yet on no account could you make a sensible case that he deserves a huge payrise and new contract based purely on what he has acheieved. Because he’s acheived nothing and there is no case for it.

At the end of the day – its sensible you tie down players as much as you can because it increases the options as to what you can do with the player.

  355. Arsenal Tom says:

nasri wins any worst dressed comp hands down with this effort…

    http://www.arsenal.com/assets/_files/scaled/498×250/jan_09/gun__1232108730_160109_nasriprehull.jpg

  356. MickyDidIt89 says:

QoS, so what shirt for the KoS?

  357. I think £22m is a lot to pay for Milner – it might even be more if talksport are correct (£30m)

He’s got a good upside but for that money i’d be wanting a bit more star quality.

  358. Jaguar says:

    The 17 players are
    Fabianski,Mannone,RVP,Denilson,Diaby,Song,RVP,Wilshere,
Eastmond,Vela,JET,Rosicky,Bendtner,Eduardo,Walcott and Gibbs and Sanchez Watt.

I would say Song,RVP,Wilshere, Ramsey and Eastmond deserve a contract. The only reason why Wenker gives them contract is to sell them on a higher fees,to grab his bonuses. But many of the clowns will go for free, when they run out of the contracts

  359. MickyDidIt89 says:

Seaman was “The Man” when it comes to “Worst Dressed”.

  360. MickyDidIt89 says:

Tash and Pony tail just for starters

  361. gambon says:

    QoS

Ive never slated him for Merida, its different with kids.

However I did say last summer we should cash in on him, he was never gonna break through and keeping him in the reserves was pointless.

  362. Arsenal Tom says:

QofS you get the best young english CM around and he’ll be there for 10 years no problem… not bad value for money!

  363. MickyDidIt89 says:

I really want Hazard. Some with nip and dash. Cut and thrust. Someone to get a little chalk on their boots.

  364. chippy says:

    Arsenal Tom,
Fuck me defo he looks like a lesbian edwina currie look a like !!

  365. Arsenal Tom says:

chippy. thats a shocker! the next one isnt much better… he looks like real tubby little mincer

  366. chippy says:

Haha Looks like a Gay Hamster in the 2nd one !!

  367. Thanks for the answer Jaguar.

So you’d let the other 12 go for free? Like Walcott and Vela? And you wouldn’t give a new contract to Gibbs who has broken into first team contention?

  368. KM says:

    Atom

lol…thats hilarious…he’s trying to dress like Wenger

  369. Simon says:

Cheers Henry14/Pedro for trying to get me tickets. Really appreciate that.

  370. Jaguar says:

The thing is there contracts werent due any time soon,QOS?Why offer a new contract to a player, whose contract is due in 2012.The answer is obvious.Ramsey was signed in 2008,and Wenker offered him an extension in 2009.What for?He would surely have been on a four or five year contract, when he signed.

  371. Trevor says:

Jaguar, you’re contradicting yourself yet again, except this time in the very same post.

Apparently Wenger is only extending these contracts so he can make a profit on them when he sells them.. except he isn’t going to sell them because they just let their contracts run out..

You know, sometimes it’s not easy to work out who deserves a new deal. I bet not many would have included Song in their 5 (to use your imaginary number) at this point last year.

Extending too many contracts is probably a better option than not enough. Losing your Flamini too soon hurts more than keeping your Senderos too long.

  372. Sadly Jaguar because players hold all of the cards and for all we know Wenger may have promised Ramsey a new contract if he broke into the first team squad…

Although why i’m defending that i don’t know, because Ramsey was one of the five you said you’d give a new contract too as well! :-)

  373. Trevor says:

Jaguar, Ramsey was one of your 5 to give a new contract to and now you’re complaining about that one as well..

AW obviously can’t do anything right in your eyes. Which is even a fair enough attitude, you have the right to think that. I’d just give up trying to prove it because you’re talking nonsense right now.

  374. chippy says:

Haha I know theres some miserable bastards on this site but at least they are not delusional this little beauty had me spitting my coffee over my computer and im one of Songs biggest fans !!
But this takes the biscuit :-)

What sport do some people watch talk about compare chalk and cheese

Alex Song is definatley a global superstar in the making. There were times against barcellona that he out-Marradona’d Messi, and has had a fantastic season in general.

Carnt remember the last Dm that was a global superstar ;-)

  375. Jaguar says:

All other managers give new contracts to deserving players because they want to keep the player.

  376. Stu says:

Ramsey was probably offered an extension (and increased wages or whatever) to reflect his status in the squad. In his first season he wouldnt ave expected to make more than 5 or 10 starts. But his second season he would have definately expected more involvment so was given a contract to reflect his improvements and growing status/importance in the squad.

  377. Stu says:

LOL Chippy, i know where you read that because i saw it too. There are very few, if any, defensive superstars in the world of football. Players gain superstar status by scoring goals.

Hey, maybe thats why Song has come out saying he wants to add goals to his game.

  378. What a shame Jaguar – i know you were contradicting yourself all over the place and stuff, but for a minute there you were almost having a normal conversation rather than heading down the “what a mug” route….

  379. Stu says:

Suspect indeed Paulinho. Night explain why Barca were so desperate to get Ibra regardless of cost.

  380. Mayank says:

Nasri looks like Ray Romano from everybody loves Raymond.

  381. Rohan says:

    Cesc still wears GAP. :D

  382. Rohan says:

so who’s the best dresser then? I go for Bendtner. :D

  383. Trevor says:

Jag, I think basically your beef is that you don’t rate the players. AW bought these guys so he obviously likes them and thinks they have potential. Why would anyone let his players walk out for free when he can offer new deals that mean they either stay or earn money for the club when they go.

I think this is probably the first time I’ve heard a fan attacking Wenger on the grounds of poor financial sense. he clearly has faults but this isn’t one of them.

  384. chippy says:

    Stu,
Hehe Someone questioned his logic and he came up with this

was courtesy of Song dancing the ball past 5 players on more than one occasion.

    Its not hype. It happened.

At what stage do the men in white coats turn up?? Was having a most boring day till i read those beauts :-)

Stu,Yep thats what i was thinking maybe hes now realised to be put in the same bracket as the Messis ronaldos Kakas and rooneys of this world he needs to score a few more than 1 league goal a season ;-)

  385. Franchise says:

rohan Song is the best dresser

  386. Jaguar says:

QOS.What did Denilson and Diaby do to deserve a new contract? How am I contradicting myself

  387. Stu says:

Trevor, so do you think it makes financial sense to let players leave on a free rather than just sell them?

  388. Jaguar says:

Trevor,I am not questioning his financial sense. My point was that he spent the money on wrong places, like Diaby,Denilson clearly knowing that they are shit.Wenker just wants to prove an agenda set by himself, persisting with these clowns, assuming they will come good. They wont ever come good.

  389. MickyDidIt89 says:

Rohan: Hunting for worst dressed is one thing. Looking for best dressed is WAY too gay!

  390. Stu says:

They dont half love their leather jackets huh Fran. Well in fairness so do I. Have a cracking one that i got for 60eruo on sale. Legend!

  391. MickyDidIt89 says:

    Theo wears Mothercare.

  392. Jaguar says:

    Stu,
Would you rather let a shit player like Denilson go for free,or rather offer him a five year contract with improved wages, and let him go for free after five years or for a meagre fee anytime during the contract.

  393. tonyadamsisgod says:

I’m making a prediction. Wenger will sign these players:

    Chamakh
    Buffon
    Cahill

    Afternoon all……..

  394. Stu says:

Jaguar, of course i would rather have him under contract and sell him for money.

  395. Well Jaguar, because you named Ramsey as a player that you said deserved a new contract.

And then in your next post you said “why give Ramsey a new contract”!!

You have to admit, thats pretty contradictory!

  396. Mayank says:

So nobody backs my Ray Romano point. Fine keep having your girly conversations…

  397. MickyDidIt89 says:

TAIG: I know it means bugger all, but I think Cahill extended his contract this week.

  398. Stu says:

    Cahill is shit anyway.

  399. From a female perspective, I have to say Samir is one of the worst dressed men in history.

  400. gambon says:

Dennis used to dress like a 60 year old retired banker.

    Thierry was pretty sharp.

  401. Sorry Mayank, i’ll join in.

    No, he doesn’t.

    :-)

  402. Mayank says:

    lol QoS
As for well dressed players, we’ll always have Pires.

  403. Trevor says:

Stu, I was (poorly and unclearly) paraphrasing what was wrong with Jag’s posts. I agree with you totally.

Jag – everything you say actually boils down to the fact that you dislike some of the players.

In your opinion Denilson and Diaby are “shit”. Why not say that (more politely preferably) instead of trying to insert them into some financial common sense argument where you claim that everyone is either deserving of a new contract (but not too soon obviously) or they are shit and should leave for nothing. And worse than that, use the same player in both sides of the argument within a couple of posts..

  404. Jaguar says:

Haha Stu.Noone is going to pay for Denilson and Diaby.Wenger will give them pay rise, and we will have to watch these clowns fuck up our chances, and after four years, they will go for free,as none would be ready to buy them. You would want it,wouldnt you?

QOS.Ramsey already had a contract till 2012.Wenger further extended the contract. My question is why extend the contract of the players who are already on a long term contract.

  405. MickyDidIt89 says:

Trevor: what’s your little pic of?

  406. Trevor says:

Micky, I haven’t the slightest idea. It was automatic I presume.

  407. tonyadamsisgod says:

Micky – Really? I think that would at least mean an inflated cost and we know what Wenger thinks about paying over the odds. Apart from when he’s doing the selling of course.

Stu – I wouldn’t say he’s shit at all. He’s been very good in fact. But people cant see past the club (Bolton) sometimes.

  408. gambon says:

The constant inflation of the wage bill is worrying.

I think people forget that if we saved £20m in wages we would have £20m more to spend every year on players.

£20m pa net spend is a huge amount.

  409. Jaguar – probably for the same reason that you said you’d extend his contract at 12.57.

  410. Arsenal Tom says:

Speaking to Spanish newspaper Marca, Fabregas is quoted as saying:

“If I decide to leave Arsenal, it will be to wear the shirt of Barcelona. I don’t know when this will happen though. I’m very happy at Arsenal. I’m in no hurry to leave the club.

“I want to make a decision about my future before the start of the World Cup. It’s impossible to perform at a tournament like the World Cup if you’re not fully focused on the sporting aspects of the game. I don’t want to be distracted by transfer talk.

“Barcelona are still playing for the Liga title and I’m still an Arsenal player. It would be a lack of respect to discuss a transfer now. No candidates for the Barcelona presidency have approached me, so I don’t feel used.”

  411. MickyDidIt89 says:

TAIG: I said “I think”. Definately not sure. No idea where I heard it.

  412. tonyadamsisgod says:

Micky – Looking on google and the such it doesn’t appear that he has so who knows. He’s said he’d obviously move if a top 4 club come in for him and Coyle said he wouldn’t stop it from happening. One link does say that he’d prefer to go to Man Utd though!

  413. MickyDidIt89 says:

ATom: If Cesc actually said that, then we should get shot of him pronto. We really cocked up keeping TH for that extra year.

  414. Trevor says:

My gut tells me Cesc is off this time. Let’s hope I’m a fool.

  415. gambon says:

Oh well, thanks for the servcie Cesc, good luck.

  416. Arsenal Tom says:

    TAIG & Micky

it was Tim Cahill who extended his contract at everton not Gary Cahill the CB we’re linked with.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/e/everton/8672910.stm

  417. Arsenal Tom says:

the cesc comments are a bit iffy but they are form ‘marca’ which is a total crock of shit of a newspaper who love a dodgy quote.

  418. MickyDidIt89 says:

Well that’s just bloody rediculous having two people with the same name. Utter bastards. But thanks for clearing up my mess.

  419. MickyDidIt89 says:

ATom: A bit iffy? Its certainly not a “No, I’m staying at Arsenal”.

  420. Stel says:

QOS ur just playing with Jag u cant really be saying u dont understand what he means

  421. Pedro says:

Trevor, we’ll probably find out that whole interview has been made up.

    Wankers…

  422. ideket says:

Arsenal and Flamini are like too lovers in the movies who split and both suffered appart. Bout time they both realised they were better off together and make up.

Flamini’s omission from the French squad didn’t make even a stub of news! He needs to return and revive his career. We need squad depth.

  423. Arsenal Tom says:

micky lol mate…. i agree mate very inconsiderate on the name thing!

and yeah its not the typical cesc statement which is why i doubt its truth to be honest mate, once its all over the papers and internet we’ll either hear a denial or absolutely nothing until he’s gone and our replacement is ‘new signing’ aaron ramsey!

  424. Arsenal Tom says:

wenger probably loves the fact that flamini left and has fucked his career up for 2 years.

  425. MickyDidIt89 says:

I think Cesc should go, not that I want it, but for his sake. We all know Chavs and Utd will sign more/better quality than us and therefore retain their advantage. Cesc must know this. Also, while he reamins so key to our play, he will always be targeted. Rather like Johnny Wilkinson at Newcastle. He then moved to a better team and was no longer targeted, and thus extended his career.
    Sad but true, I feel.

  426. ArsenalKenya says:

    WHAT A TWAT!

Internazionale boss Jose Mourinho has said he “will coach Real Madrid” but insisted speculation linking him with the Spanish giants this summer is premature.

Mourinho, who will seal consecutive Serie A triumphs if his side beat Siena this weekend and has a Champions League final against Bayern Munich on May 22, is reportedly the prime target for the Liga title-chasers.

Real’s current coach, Manuel Pellegrini, is under pressure already despite putting his club a point behind leaders Barcelona with one game remaining. But ex-Chelsea manager Mourinho cooled reports that it was a done deal.

“They are writing that I have one foot in Madrid and one in Milan, but this is not true,” Italian press reported him as telling Panorama in an interview.

“It is true that I will coach Real Madrid one day. I have managed a big club in England, I am coaching one now in Italy and I will coach a big club in Spain.”

The outspoken Portuguese continued his war of words with Italy’s football establishment by having a dig at Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis, who said he preferred his own club’s coach Walter Mazzarri to Mourinho.

“It means nothing to me, I have won in all three countries I have coached in,” he said referring to title wins in Portugal, England and Italy.

“But it does make me laugh when certain presidents compare me to their coaches who have not even won a Cup of Tuscany or Reggio Calabria.”

Mourinho, who has fallen out with media, club chairmen, fellow coaches and the game’s authorities, and who said he did not like Italian football, accused the sport in the country of being two-faced.

“The hypocrisy in football is that people come to me with a smile on their face, slap me on the back, call me the special one – and then as soon as they can they attack me,” he said.

“They ask for a photo, an autograph and then they switch. This does not appeal to me.”

  427. kelsey says:

I see Hleb is being mentioned in dispatches again. if he was truly honest with himself he would say he regretted leaving us, but on another issue I notice that Nasri and to an extent Rosicky, are now playing as if they were clones of Hleb . Neat intricate one two passes and the art of shooting from outside the box has diminished more and more.

  428. zeus says:

    Morning Grovers.

    http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2565/exclusives/2010/05/13/1922163/valencias-ever-banega-close-to-85m-liverpool-switch-with

So Pool want Banega. HE IS VERY GOOD. I’m pissed Maradona didn’t pick him as a sort of back up to Veron, Will be interesting to see how he adjusts to the English game.

  429. Jaguar says:

Ever Banega is a great player. For £8m,he is worth it.

  430. choy says:

I think we should just take the money and let cesc leave..

I really really like him.. but every summer its the same shite.. will he go .. will he stay.

Lets face it, he’s going to go back one day anyway!

  431. choy says:

fack me zeus.. I thought that was 85 mill!!

  432. Jaguar says:

45m+ Yaya for Cesc. Spend the money on Gourcouff, Arteta , A GK,Two defenders.

  433. Arsenal Tom says:

we’d never do a deal 45m & yaya for cesc, we just haven’t got the balls as a club.

when he goes i doubt we’ll get anything over 30-35m for him

  434. Jaguar says:

    Am I under moderation?

  435. Arse&Nose says:

I’ll be happy if we get

    Manuel Neuer
    Per Mertesaker
    Yaya Toure
    Chamakh

  436. chippy says:

Marcas not fit for bog roll let alone transfer speculation i wouldnt take a word they print seriously they make the Beano look like the Times, Youd get more trust worthy sources from Viz !!

  437. KM says:

    lol Choy @ 15.54

    Same here ;) haha

  438. Jaguar says:

    Out:Denilson,Diaby,Almunia,Silvestre,Rosicky,Eduardo(For a combined fee of 18m)
In: Arteta,Frey,a new winger, two CBs and Chamakh

    Next spending 30 million.Sort it out Wen*er.

  439. bnsb says:

    KM

You can look at post @15.54? A la Sabeel? :)

  440. gambon says:

I like Banega, bit of a midget though.

  441. KM says:

    hahaha oops

    i meant 15.14 ;)

  442. Stu says:

Why Arteta all of a sudden? He is a very poor mans Cesc and would cost more than he’s worth coming from another english club.

  443. KM says:

Benega is a player who’s improved a lot over the season. We were after him last summer. Why would they want him if they have aquilani?

  444. choy says:

Arteta is a pretty decent player.

Obviously not as good as cesc, I doubt any CM/AM in the world is!

  445. Stu says:

But why arteta when we could just add 10m and get gourcuff.

  446. choy says:

    Arteta is PL proven.

And I doubt bordeaux will let go of Gourcuff

  447. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLJBmXBvT3E,

what do you guys think of the new home kit?

  448. Stu says:

Why not? They are shit now. We could do a swap deal. 20m plus Diaby. I think they’d go for that.

  449. Arsenal Tom says:

If cesc went he’d buy a 10-15m box to box mid and start ramsey or nasri as the creative MF

  450. choy says:

AI.. if that is the kit, its lovely!

But read somewhere that its fake.

  451. Pedro says:

    Jag, Wenker is under moderation.

    It’s childish.

Also any abuse you send players way. People can say what they want but it has to be constructive.

  452. Franchise says:

wow the talk of GPS tracking to prevent injuries is all over Arsenal.com

a few of us talked about it a few weeks agao. Pedro refused to release it as his exclusive but told me about it over a year ago during a certain pre-game peroni fest

And many ppl think fans are 100% clueless

  453. choy says:

We’d still use 433 if cesc went?

  454. Pedro says:

Franchise, the stuff they do is crazy… I’m going to try and get some information on it for the Grovers.

  455. Franchise says:

I posted a link about it a few weeks ago when we were discussing our injury situation

  456. Pedro says:

Franchise, that’s the point I’ve been trying to make with the AKB’s… everyone thinks Wenger is a revolutionary… well, he was… but not anymore.

Other teams have had this tech for years… that’s why we get more injuries than everyone else.

Fulham use a similar system and have the fewest injuries in the league near enough!

Still… that’s great news… we’re on the path to fewer injuries.

what makes you all think cesc is leaving

  458. Franchise says:

yeah Pedro better late than never. Chelsea have been using it for 3plus years

Chelsea Football Club ‘Chelsea Football Club have used GPSports SPI technology extensively for the past 3 years. The SPI has reliably provided our key performance staff with insight into the player training demands of Premier League Football.

‘SPI information forms the foundation of our conditioning and rehabilitation programs.’

    - Nick Broad, High Performance Manager, Chelsea.

  459. chippy says:

Artetas a Top notch player that would shine at Arsenal but id rather see him playing with Cesc than in place of !

  460. Keyser says:

They’ve been using it in other sports for a while, I was talking to some trainer dude at the gym and he said football’s quite a way behind other sports in terms of fitness training and other things.

  462. Keyser says:

Pedro – You can’t say thats WHY, it might just be a contributing reason. It’s just something that gives you more information on how much work you’re players are doing, I think you’d have to go into far more detail though, especially with individual players to see how it affects them.

  463. BillikenGooner says:

I wonder what the over/under is for the amount of times an announcer during the World Cup says something like:

“(Player X, Y, or Z), who is linked with a move to Arsenal this summer…”

  464. David says:

Arterta is a laboring, injury prone poor man’s Cesc.

    I’d prefer Ireland.

  465. Mayank says:

Gazidis thinks we’ll to benefit from the system by mid next year, so don’t expect lesser injuries all of a sudden. It’s a step in the right direction. Even if we’re lucky with impact injuries we’ll be much much better off. If anyone can calculate how many mauscle injuries we had v/s impact injuries it could be helpful.

  466. zeus says:

    Choy

Haha. Rub yours eyes TWICE. Banega is good, but not that good.

  467. goonerT1m says:

a soda stream used be considered revolutionary until they realised it was actually a pain in the arse and overcomplicated a fizzy drink, sound familiar?

  468. Keyser says:

They’re both average, might aswell go all out and give Ramsey a chance.

  469. Franchise says:

most of our injuries were hamstring and calf strains

  470. Keyser says:

Mayank – Exactly, if we go one season without any long term injuries due to bone breaks, or just any long term injuries, we’ve got loads of players that will be looking for games.

  471. Pedro says:

Keyser, I can say why. It’s no coincidence. It’s a fact.

Take away the leg breaks and the impact injuries, the rest are controllable.

You watch our injury list drop next season.

  472. Pedro says:

There is no such thing as a 5 season coincidence.

  473. Mayank says:

Franchise is there any site which has a record for this?
I can remember 8 impact injures and 5 muscle injuries.

  474. Keyser says:

Pedro – You’re saying it’s because we haven’t had this technology that we suffer more injuries ?!

It’s just extra information we could use, if for one season we go without 2-3 players suffereing long term injuries, thats 2-3 players that will get games that lessed the load on other players.

  475. Rohan says:

    I don’t like Banega to be honest…Diaby’s a better player imo. :D

  476. Pedro says:

Keyser, that’s exactly what I’m saying.

If you didn’t have a battery gauge on your phone, you’d suffer more flat batteries.

That’s what this tech does… it tells you when your players are running on empty.

  477. Mayank says:

Well statistically the chances or rolling 3 6s is 256 to 1 but it still does happen. Not saying that getting injuries is as ambiguous as rolling dice but there is the luck factor to it. I’m sure better techniques will cut down on the Gallas type injuries.

  478. Pedro says:

    Mayank, impact injuries this year.

    Cesc
    RvP
    Rambo
    Nasri

  479. Franchise says:

comon Mayank not even in Fight to the death Kick boxing do you have more breaks than muscle injuries mostly fatigue caused

in the last 6 weeks alone we lost denilson, gallas, vermelen, bendtner, song, arshavin (maybe more) out for either one of groin strains, hamstring pull and calf strain

Gallas and Vermaelen were calf strains

  480. Pedro says:

Mayank, of course there is an element of luck… but there is an element of science… which you can monitor

  481. Mayank says:

    Gibbs, JD, Theo too.
I remember the med team counting 7 fractures.

  482. Franchise says:

    Arshavin was alos for calf

Diaby over the course of the season suffered from calf, hamstring and groin i believe

Lewin said it was one of our unluckiest seasons for breaks but it doesnt mean that there were more breaks than muscular injuries

  483. choy says:

Ramsey will take at least a year to get fit, I don’t think he’ll feature much this coming season.

  484. choy says:

That there is an amazing song!

  485. Mayank says:

Franchise like Keyser said it’s the knock on effect of other injuries that leads to fatigue injuries that you mentioned.
We all knew that these injuries were going to happen but what could we do, the replacements were also injured.
    You yourself predicted Gallas’s.

  486. Franchise says:

Djourou suffered knee problems no fracture

  487. Rohan says:

    Yeeeeaaahhhh! Choy.

  488. Pedro says:

    Rohan = Gay

  489. Franchise says:

we suffer quite a lot of injuries in training. that is the most annoying part cos tackles are not even allowed

  490. Mayank says:

Rohan all I can say is ahem.

But the JD thing was a complication rather than training or fatigue related. Right?

  491. Arsenal Tom says:

clichy and denilsons back injuries (fractures?) were brought on from over playing and fatigue to i think

  492. Rohan says:

    Pedro=homo.

  493. Rohan says:

screw all of ye. Snow Patrol is epic.

  494. Keyser says:

Pedro – I’m not saying it won’t help, I’m saying you can’t attribute all of our injury problems to us not having this technology, it helps collate information on players it doesn’t give you solutions, you still have to analyse and manage the squad.

If we start the season with a fit squad, even an extra couple of players that have experience and quality, I bet the injury count will go down.

We could go through the season without any long term injuries and the injury count should go down.

  495. Franchise says:

    Lewin was quoted as saying

Statistically we run the furthest in the Premier League. We also have the highest number of sprints compared to the other Premier League teams.”

he is insinuating there that we are likely to suffer fatigue injuries because we run more than any other team in the prem and also have the highest sprints

  496. choy says:

I’m telling you.. we play and tackle better in practices instead of the real game.

This is why wenger thinks the players are world beaters!

  497. bnsb says:

I posted a link about it a few weeks ago when we were discussing our injury situation

Them people do read Le Grove! When they buy a GK, DM and a CB it would be conclusive proof!!

  498. Franchise says:

it would only be fair to compare our injuries to the other top teams in the league filled with internationals and who play a similar no. of games as we do

and i think someone put up an injury comparison list recently and ours was almost twice that of chelsea’s

  499. zeus says:

All this talk of gps, didn’t Gazidi’s say it won’t bear the full fruits until the 2nd half of next season? We haven’t had it long enough to to build up the information database on players.

  500. Mayank says:

Is it really a surprise that we run more than other teams in the course of a game? Our style requires that.

  501. Pedro says:

Keyser, they employ a team of people who give the solutions… SaaS it’s called. Software as a service.

You get people in who’ll analyse the data, share their thoughts with the trainers and suggest ways to get more out of the players without injuring them.

  502. Franchise says:

that is why its stupid when the manager expects us to miraculously complete a full season with a tiny crop of proper reliable players

eduardo and vela were fit for many games we needed a striker but wenger didnt trust them to play there

also why does he act like he doesnt expect fatigue to catch up on his regular playing players towards the obvious ‘end of the season’

this GPS thing is one step in the right direction

having a reliable squad is the other so that we dont overplay our players

i would expect lampard to be able to play more games yearly than Cesc if he doesnt cover as much distance as Cesc does in 90mins. Also chelsea use state of the art tech to help their fitness

  503. rob green says:

To people not think that it’s the type of players that wenger buys is the reason why we get so many injuries. There all small athletic types. I would put my money on Sol getting less injuries than say nasri and walcott

  504. choy says:

    Its also overplaying players.

He tells the world that he has faith in all his players but when push comes to shove, he doesn’t!

He has his favourites and doesn’t trust the fringe players.

  505. David says:

    Shocking news.

Lee Dixon is a doomer

  506. Franchise says:

    choy great minds ;)

  507. Mayank says:

Eduardo was given a shot but just didn’t prove himself, Vela just can’t stay fit. I think the trust issues are a bit exaggerated he played Eastmond and Traore in some important games.

  508. Arsenal Tom says:

rob… spot on… someone like nasri is always going to get more injuries than lampard because of his size… how many times do people clatter into lampard? or knock him around/ on the deck!? not often cos they know its not that easy.

  509. Keyser says:

Pedro – They suggest it, but it’s still a whole host of factors that affect the way we manage the squad that contributes to these injuries. We’ve got 3 players now that are still affected with the after effects of spending a long time out due to injuries that we can’t really prevent.

If Fabregas or Ramsey are at 70% before a game to Birmingham, you’d take the risk on Ramsey, if it’s before a game against Barcelona you’d risk Fabregas.

I think unless we have another play scythed down this year, we should do a lot better with injuries, if we start the season with a semi-fit squad.

  510. Pedro says:

    David… so is Tom Jones.

    No wait, he’s a crooner…

  511. Arse&Nose says:

Does a F1 team try to compete for a Grand Prix by under-filling its tank?

Why does Wenger do the same with the Arsenal team?

  512. Pedro says:

Keyser, you can’t improve form with this tech but you can prevent the niggles they get.

That’s why Chelsea players are rarely out long term and when they come back, inevitably they stay back.

  513. Pedro says:

Keyser, you’re using the tech wrong in the first place.

This is about assessing how fatigued a player is after a game so you know how hard to train them.

Currently if Cesc isn’t 100% fit… we’ll still put him through high intensity training. With this, we could rest him or put him on something light.

  514. zeus says:

    Rohan

Are you joking about Banega and Diaby?

  515. Keyser says:

Pedro – They also have the biggest most expensive and experienced squad in the Premiership. We could add two quality players this summer and end up at the same juncture.

    It’s loads of different factors.

  516. zeus says:

Oh and apparently our lord and saviour IS serious about FA cup.

  517. Mayank says:

Any new techniques that will help us regulate our injuries are more than welcome. But the hack them down stigma attached to us also has to be put in check.

  518. Pedro says:

Can anyone understand why an agent would put a clause in someones contract that they’d get a massive bonus if they played over 60% of the games?

    Dumb or what?

  519. choy says:

    Yeah Franchise !

On the plus side.. the players are a year older next season!

  520. Pedro says:

Mayank, you deal with that approach by signing players who can deal with that.

How many leg breaks did we have in the days of the Invincibles?

  521. gambon says:

    A&N

Easy answer, cos he wants to pocket his bonuses for not spending.

  522. Rohan says:

kinda zeus. I don’t rate Banega plus I do think Diaby will come good eventually….

  523. Franchise says:

Arsenal’s injury situation has been in the news recently. Arsenal.com’s Richard Clarke spoke to physio Colin Lewin to put the record straight.

Why do we seem to have so many injuries this year?
“There are lots of different reasons really. The number of games is always a contributor, although we do tend to play between 55 and 60 games every season. So if you compare this season to others for Arsenal then we are slightly up. But it has been a freak season for traumatic injuries. We would normally expect one, sometimes two fractures a year. This season we are on seven.”

Is this the worst season for injuries in your time at Arsenal?
“Yes, up until now it probably is the worst. We are slightly up on last season and the season before but not much has changed from other seasons except for the high level of traumatic injuries. By traumatic injuries I mean breaks and fractures from bad tackles. We are not blaming the other teams; this is just a freak season for traumatic injuries. Statistically we run the furthest in the Premier League. We also have the highest number of sprints compared to the other Premier League teams.”

    Why is that influential?
“Because to get to that level it requires a high level of fitness. Therefore, everybody is in agreement that the training, as directed by the manager, has to reflect this high level of fitness. When you add the fact that we play more games than everybody else there is a decrease in the recovery time. We play midweek games where we get three days recovery. Other teams get a week. That also adds risk. It is another factor as a lot of injuries are fatigue related.”

Other teams seem to have fewer injuries. Why?
“You have to say that teams who play a similar number of games to us have got a similar injury record. You always see your own team as being worse because that is the team you support. Our players have around a 50 per cent increase in match exposure than players at some other Premier League clubs who might only play 40 games per season. The other contributing factor is that 90 per cent of our squad are international players. That again adds to the number of games and therefore the fatigue element is increased. The injury risk is far greater than in a squad with a far lower percentage of internationals. So when you compare us to teams who play a similar number of games, we are not that different.

“The other thing is when you have several long-term injuries your squad is depleted. That increases the demands on other players because there is less room for rotation.”

Have you had a normal level of muscular injuries?
“We are very similar to other seasons. We aren’t a lot better and we aren’t a lot worse compared to other Arsenal seasons. Compared to other clubs it is a similar scenario to comparing traumatic injuries – it is difficult to compare us to teams who don’t play as many games. If you compare us to teams who play in Europe, it is fairly similar.”

How has your relationship with Arsène Wenger developed over the years?
“I’ve been working with Arsène for 14 seasons now and that is a good thing, it engrains stability and trust. I have daily meetings with the manager and we have a good relationship. We also send a weekly update to Ivan Gazidis. He has been very supportive over the last year.

“Our daily meetings are progress reports on the players, and planning when the injured players are going to be joining the squad. The meetings are also about training numbers – who is and who isn’t training because it isn’t as simple as if you are fit you are training. Some players have slightly tailored training programmes and won’t always train with the team.

“It isn’t always about discussing the injured players, we have to keep an eye on the fit players too and stop them from getting injured where possible. Therefore we are constantly liaising with Tony Colbert regarding specific strength and conditioning programmes. He has an important role in injury prevention.

“We are constantly trying to improve the medical team. Between the three physios and the doctor there is over 50 years experience of working with elite athletes. We have access to the best surgeons, the best specialists and the best sports science in the world.”

What is the current medical set up and how do you plan to develop and progress over the coming years?
“We have a very good doctor, three experienced physios, two masseurs, podiatry and nutrition input, osteopathic expertise and the strengthening and conditioning knowledge of Tony Colbert.

“Neal Reynolds is leaving us. He is returning to be head physio at Norwich City and we would like to thank him for his contribution over the last couple of years and wish him the very best of luck. He has been an important part of the medical team during his time at the Club.

“A physio called Simon Harland is coming in. He is a good, experienced physio who has been working with elite athletes for 15 years. He has come from the Northern Irish Institute of Sport where he has been working with elite rugby players and he has experience in other elite sports. We are looking forward to working with him.

“We also tap into the expertise of leading specialists from all over the world. In recent years players have had surgery in France, Spain, Germany, Holland and USA.

“We are constantly monitoring and reviewing the situation because our job is to treat and prevent the injuries and make improvements to stop them happening again. You won’t have a season with no injuries. No club will ever have that. It’s important that we stay abreast of the latest developments and practices in sports medicine to ensure that we continue to provide the best treatment possible for our players.

    How is Cesc Fabregas?
“Cesc is doing well. He is likely to be out for the rest of the season with a hairline crack of his fibula. If everything goes well he will comfortably make the World Cup and we will be constantly monitoring him. The injury was certainly as a result of the tackle by Carlos Puyol at the end of the Barcelona game. There were some ill-informed media reports that the fracture was sustained before the Barcelona game and those reports, put simply, were untrue. He suffered heavy bruising in the Birmingham City game but to suggest that someone can run around for 85 minutes against Barcelona with a fractured fibula is just farcical.

“We examined Cesc after the Birmingham game and he had suffered heavy bruising. The x-rays confirmed that there was no fracture. At the end of the Barcelona match, following the challenge from Puyol, Cesc had an x-ray to determine the damage. It showed a hairline crack, which unfortunately means Cesc will miss the rest of the season.”

How are the other players with long-term injury problems doing?
“Johan Djourou had a difficult problem with the cartilage in his knee joint. He has made virtually a full recovery and we expect him to train fully with the squad within the next fortnight, as will Kieran Gibbs. They have both made full recoveries from what could have been career-threatening injuries.”

    How about Aaron Ramsey?
“Aaron will make a full recovery. Other footballers have suffered a similar injury. The surgery went very well and the early signs are very good. We don’t expect Aaron to return until the early autumn. He has some metalwork in there and that provides the stability for the fracture. The specialists have encouraged him to walk and this weight-bearing will aid the fracture healing. It’s early days but the signs are very good.”

Finally how about Robin Van Persie?
“Robin will be joining the squad for full training imminently. That is a big boost for the club and to see Johan and Kieran training with the team in the next fortnight will give everyone a big lift.”

    http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/lewin-the-reasons-for-our-injury-levels

  524. Keyser says:

Pedro – No, I’m not, the Ramsey/ Fabregas thing is a judgement call, which the system can’t judge for you, if you’ve got him on light training, it still won’t tell you how much stress he can take from an impact before his leg breaks as it did against Barcelona.

  525. MickyDidIt89 says:

Pedro: when you say “we could rest him or put him on something light”, does that rule out Nasri?

  526. zeus says:

WOW. Guess that means Dixon WILL NEVER get a coaching job at Arsenal while Wenger is there or otherwise.

  527. gambon says:

Translation of Dixons thoughts = Wengers a cunt.

  528. Franchise says:

When you add the fact that we play more games than everybody else there is a decrease in the recovery time. We play midweek games where we get three days recovery. Other teams get a week. That also adds risk. It is another factor as a lot of injuries are fatigue related.”

What doe the dude mean by we play more games than everybody else?

    comon not Chelsea and Manunited

    At the worst similar

The thing that I cant understand Chelsea almost seem like they play their first team in every competition even the cups. but yet they dont suffer as much fatigue injuries as we do

Another is that our return estimates are often wide off the mark. Is is mis-diagnosis or is the manager just trying to assure the fans hence he lies

how many times has back in 2 weeks meant back in 2 months at Arsenal? 8O SHOCKING

  529. Mayank says:

The stigma started with the Invincibles though. Bolton in particular.
A major contributing factor in the that was Pat Vieira, he used to protect both Pires and Freddie. After he went they started getting injured.

  530. Mayank says:

Wow Gambon, Dixon call you up and tell you that?

  531. Pedro says:

Keyser, I’m not arguing that am I?

I don’t believe I’ve once said it can predict a leg break?

Leg breaks are part and parcel… as are impact injuries.

I’m talking about managing the soft tissue injuries which have caused us greif all year. Not just that, think about the intangibles… playing with fatigued players because they’ve over trained. We won’t get that problem as badly next season because training can be better managed.

  532. Keyser says:

Mayank – We do need more violence, but if you compare the squad size from even then to now, I bet it differs quite a lot.

  533. choy says:

IG was going on about Arsenal having fewer days to rest than the Chavs and the Mancs

  534. Keyser says:

Pedro – You’re arguing that all of our injury issues can be attributed to not having this piece of technology, I’m saying there’s loads of factors that have attributed to the situations we’ve faced over the past couple of years, yeah it’ll help, or it should do, but so could any of the other factors.

  535. Mayank says:

I know most of you are sceptical about Ivan but do you think he’s had a positive impact on the club since he’s been here? Does seem to me he’s taken some off the load off of Wenger. Also the club seems a bit more professional.

  536. MickyDidIt89 says:

Out of interest, if I say a “bad”, how long do I get in moderation and exactly how dark and scary is it in there?

  537. gambon says:

    Mayank

I read between the lines mate.

And yeah, Ivans had a positive impact. He bought Arshavin when Wenger was dead against it cos it took his “No spend bonus” away from him.

  538. MickyDidIt89 says:

Also, are there any lifers in there to chat with?

  539. tomb says:

Shit – just saw william hills have dropped the odds on Cesc leaving . Dosent look good for him staying. I guess we should be looking at life after cesc for next season.
We just cant hold on to our best players. They just dont see a future here.

    Whats gone wrong?

  540. Keyser says:

I’d say it was pretty clear Ivan was dead against it, but Wenger said ‘forget the bonus’ buy the player, and thats why we got Arshavin.

  541. choy says:

    what is a lifer?

  542. Mayank says:

    Gambon
lol you have an indomitable capacity to make positives into negatives.
If you read b/w the lines or even just read what Henry Vieira Wilson have to say about Wenger will you post about how they really mean to say that he’s a genius?

  543. tomb says:

I guess Sabeel is a lifer.

  544. Mayank says:

Also don’t you think 1st place bonus is higher than 4th place bonus is higher than no spend bonus. If at all there are any bonuses.

  545. MickyDidIt89 says:

Choy: anyone doing more than just a stretch

  546. zeus says:

    Gambon

No way was Arsavin a IG buy. Can you imagine IG coming in for only a few days and already he is telling Arsene what to do. Thats just madnes.

  547. MickyDidIt89 says:

All that stuff about AA being bought and bonus payments is utter drivel

  548. Arsenal Tom says:

tomb… not winning any trophies, not buying any players, selling our big names…

    that should cover it mate

  549. gambon says:

    Mayank

    - Henry left the club
    - Vieira left the club

Because they knew Wenger was losing it with his ‘project’.

Bob Wilson refused to do the Q&A again cos he said Wenger is a dickhead.

    My source told me that!

  550. gambon says:

    Zeus

I heard that the first thing IG did when he arrived on Jan 4th was he pimp slapped Wenger, stole JETs car and drove it to heathrow to sign AA.

Wenger tried to stop him but his Claude Butler was no match for IG in the McLaren.

  551. Mayank says:

What project? At Vieira’s time? Do you mean the stadium construction…

  552. Mayank says:

Ronaldo left Utd, does SAF have any special project that we don’t know about?
Or is it because he knew they were going to be skint.

  553. Keyser says:

Claude Butler’s are oviously quicker, so thats bollocks, especially the ones with 21 quickshift gears.

  554. tomb says:

A-tom. Its depressing not reinvesting in the squad over the period has just pushed us back 4 years.#
To get us back to 2005 strength we will need to spend at least 4 years of investment. Its been a false ecomomy all the way. If we loose Cesc (which looks probable) what has it been all for!

  555. gambon says:

Wenger had Nasri on the tricknuts, thats a lot of weight to carry.

  556. Arsenal Tom says:

if cesc goes the one world class product from ‘project youth’ will have left due to its failure… how ironic!!

  557. gambon says:

Ive said it before & ill say it again, a youth system can never work in the long term, it is doomed to failure.

  558. tomb says:

If we get 50 mil for Cesc somebody put it to the board to share out the cash to all the supporters to maybe go to Brazil for a couple of weeks holiday to celebrate the rewards of project youth. At least well get something from it.

  559. Pedro says:

Keyser… I quite clearly stated impact injuries aside.

  560. irishgunner says:

Are people believing William Hill odds on Cesc?? Don’t think it’ll happen this season.

  561. Keyser says:

Yeah and it’s all still related, over the past few years, squad size, experience, and impact injuries that have kept players out for long periods have all contributed to the injury issues.

Our squad is now bigger, should be more experienced and if we don’t suffer any long term impact injuries we’ll also be manage rotation due to fatigue a lot easier. Thats before we even think about usuing the gps system.

It takes time as it is to build up the database, so if we can start the season with a fit squad we’ll probably be dealing with the injuries a lot better anyway.

  562. Paulinho says:

I was just finkin, with that GPS in tow we could easily garner 10+ points next season.

  563. Keyser says:

Don’t be silly, if that was true, you’d have all the blogs writing about it by now.

  564. Dutchman says:

    Cesc will stay!!!

  565. Dutchman says:

Someone will come out and say that cesc will stay!! Mark my words!!

  566. Pedro says:

    I’m glad Dutchman… Paulinho… you read my mind ;-)

  567. Paulinho says:

    Only joking Keyser.

Only a plonker would think something like that, I mean come on, someone like Pedro for instance would never post anything as far fetched as that!

  568. Paulinho says:

Only joking Pedro, I’m sure it will be good read as always!

  569. Pedro says:

haha! Act surprised tomorrow Paulinho ;-)

  570. Pat says:

Newcastle fans say Chelsea, Arsenal, and Everton are all in for Taylor and that we checked on him a few times this season.

  571. I wonder if camels ever look down at their feet and think ‘Fuck me my toes look like a minge’.

  572. zeus says:

I would love Yaya. Unfortunately I think this is just postering from his agent to get more playing time for his client.

But I would absolutely love it.

  573. zeus says:

    posturing*

  574. Pat says:

maybe I’m thinking too much into this, but Cesc may be off. Wenger is stalling on the contract extension, possibly because the board accepted the Barca bid….

I don’t know, especially with today’s quotes from Cesc

  575. gooner-pak says:

pedro if u still there i liked your alteration… this way we can read rumours from the likes of DDM (in comments of previous blogs after we lost to barca and discussion caught my eye and i read it in sequence afterward) or one like reggie 57 made on transfer gossip page

  576. patthegooner says:

    £50m and Cesc for Yaya

I think I would take that if our club guaranteed that we would invest that 50m in the squad this summer.

Cesc is WC and you dont want to lose those kind of players, but his move is inevitible at some stage. The question is, will he be worth more or less than that this time next year???

  577. patthegooner says:

    Sorry that should read

50m and Yaya Toure for Cesc

  578. luke says:

I think Cesc will stay. He is our most important player without a doubt. If Cesc goes, expect massive reconstruction of this team, as the way we currently play is basically based off him.

I guess Gourcuff or Ozil could try to replace him but that sounds dubious to me. Maybe a 4-4-2 with RVP Chamakh up front, Song and another CM, and a winger?

  579. gooner-pak says:

i can wish he stays for atleast a year…….but then pwwfffffff whole team is build around him – he is key member of project youth ONLY IF WE REINVEST WISELY I”LL BE HAPPY TO LET HIM OFF. BUT ALL MONEY NEED TO BE SPENT ON PLAYERS AND NOT PLACED IN SOME TIME DEPOSIT

  580. luke says:

    Hugo Lloris
    Sanga-CB-Verm-Clichy
    Nasri-Song-Toulalan-Arshavin
    ———–RVP———Chamakh

    If cesc goes?

  581. choy says:

    I think Cesc is saying..

    Buy some players!

    Otherwise I am off!

  582. luke says:

Id love this for next year:

    GK
    Sagna-CB-Verm-Clichy
    Cesc-Song-Toure/Melo
    Chamakh-RVP-Arsh

Subs: Almunia, Eboue, Sol, Diaby, Nasri, Walcott, Bendtner

  583. gooner-pak says:

choy.. i dont get this buy thing.. last year vp was saying i’ll stay if we buy some player and he signed the contract after wards with only one addition
what if they promise and buy f**k all

  584. gooner-pak says:

and what about news that we paid him 3m to ward off barca… it seems fake if this dailymail news clip is authentic

  585. luke says:

The positive thing this summer about buying is that we seem to be ditching a lot of “wage wasters”

    Silvestre:50K
    Senderos
    Gallas
    Eduardo?

This will free up wages so we can buy players. It seems Wenger’s argument against spending is that he can’t afford the wage bill even with a transfer kitty. This summer it seems he doesnt have that excuse. (Trying to be optimistic)

  586. choy says:

It could just be useless journalism as well!

They have nothing to talk about.. so stir some shit up!

  587. luke says:

    Wouldnt be the first time…

  588. SongtheGreat says:

    afternoon all

cesc in the news again….well i have only one thing to say…if there’s any truth to this we should give cesc a cold shoulder and good riddens…feck off…who made him ??…and it only proves to be a true Arsenal Legend…well one have to be a special Man…not a young boy…

and i must say im so feckin tired of this cesc business im actually hoping he goes…

  589. gooner-pak says:

luke best way to not get disheart or bit hurt at the end of transfer window is to assume we will be hardly buying one player
on plus side wenger interview in which says i’ll buy b4 WC says there will be usual one two out going players

  590. gooner-pak says:

nad by plus side i meant he will have to fill the gap and this one/two players leaving could be dead wood

  591. luke says:

He is definitely in for Chamakh and has repeteadly said he needs to strengthen defense, especially with Silvestre and Gallas leaving. I think we might get 3 players in. CB, (GK), Chamakh. We probably wont sign a Midfielder though (although Id love us too with Ramsey needing time to get back to full strength).

  592. luke says:

    See you later everyone

  593. gambon says:

If the bookies are putting Cesc at odds on then i think he’s going.

How on earth will we replace him?

  594. patthegooner says:

I dont think you can replace him Gambon.

All you can do is add depth instead of that incredible quality.

Maybe Arteta and Toure could be the answer.

If Cesc is to go though, I think we may as well bite the bullet and have a mass overhaul.

  595. gambon says:

If he wants to use the same formation then Gourcuff.

If he wants to go 4-4-2 then get some creative wide players in, i suppose.

This is the problem ive been saying with a youth policy for years. You cant expect a kid to move to London at 18 and still be here when he hits his prime at 28.

  596. Pat says:

Although, if the story did originate in the DailyMail, I’d take it with a grain of salt. They still call the Europa League the Uefa European Cup. Idiots

  597. patthegooner says:

I guess Cesc asks himself whether Arsenal can match his ambition????

    Answer is currently no

  598. patthegooner says:

    And I am Pat

I actually dont think there is any truth in the story at all. I think he will still be here next season, but if he isnt then I wish him all the best. A great player.

  599. incesc says:

cesc is a young guy who is captain of arsenal playing in the champions league and idolised world wide.

Im sure he is fine. Dont be so dramatic.

  600. Pat says:

Well, this is the actual interview, so if anyone wants to translate that and see if its accurate to what the papers say, go ahead.

  601. leon says:

i cannot believe gallas realy wants 90k 2 year contract deal there is no way gallas is going get that and he does not deserve it,dont get me wroung is good defender but is not proper leader and clearly not a commanding leader like adams was or sole, not realy sure what will happen with sole as he is 35 next season will 36, i am mixed fealings on that because he has been exceptional not alot better than gallas ever has but he willonly get 1 year contract i think 20k,wenger has stated he just looking for one cb so it looks as if he intends to offer sole another contract but will have to look again next season,in the six months sole has been here he has done twice the job gallas has ever done,it does look as if wenger will get another midfielder.the one thing you can say about wenger he gives his players alot of time alot more than other managers would.in my opinion players like wilcatt delinson diaby almunia these players will have to produce in the summer as i have little dought they will be sold in fact it would suprise me if wenge sell almunia i count fabianski as he had limited chances until end of this season he is player that is extremly low in confedence which is big nono this unforgiving legue,i think vela will be sold if not this summer or next

  602. Big Dave says:

What is that whoops page all about, what happened?

  603. zeus says:

    Gambon

Enough with the gloomy posts. Cesc goes nowhwere. Its as simple as that.

  604. zeus says:

What are the odss exactly. Cuz I’d gladly have a bet that he will stay.

  605. incesc says:

its going to be “cesc to barce” every day of every transfer window untill he finally goes.

get over it, hes not going this year, if he does hes a lot more stupid than i thought…

  606. choy says:

Yep Leon.. best to let gallas go.

We would get an amazing defender for the wages gallas wants!

  607. incesc says:

pedro got a bit premature big dave, it happens to the best of us sometimes…

  608. 78692 says:

Buffon is causing all kinds of trouble on and off the field for Juventus , he openly is blaming this years failure on players and staff and also complains regularly about the lack of adequate protection from his aging, slow back line….this means he is unhappy and disgruntled and he constantly tells his agent and the Italian media wants to leave for a major club , like Bayern Munich (who need a good GK) , and Manchester United (who need a world-class replacement for 40 year old GK Van Der Sar).

Arsenal are an outside bet , because they cannot compete for the Champions League & EPL titles unlike Bayern , Man Utd , and Barcelona (who want a keeper to rival Madrid’s Casillas )

By Zunga a well respected Italian Journalist.

  609. gambon says:

    Incesc

    Why would he be stupid?

No one wants him to go but from an objective point of view it aint a bad idea.

  610. don't believe the hype says:

is this cesc to barca thing to be believed ? apparently he has told family and friends that he is barca bound

  611. 78692 says:

Bob Wilson: Arsenal will buy a new Goalkeeper
    May 13, 2010

Speaking to members of the London Freight Club at the Connaught rooms yesterday, former Arsenal great Bob Wilson told the attendees that he was privy to certain information that gave him the belief that neither Almunia nor Fabianski will be the Arsenal number one next season.

I am sure the wider media will get hold of this story soon enough, the only reason you are reading this is owing to my accountant being present at the special lunch organised by the London Freight Club.

Bob was invited to come along as the guest speaker, and was naturally apprehended by the gooners amongst the attendees who questioned the problem with our keepers this season.

He spoke about the goalkeeper coaches being more than capable, but there was a need for a new, experienced, world-class keeper to join the ranks.

He went on to confidently predict such a keeper would be joining the club this summer.

So there you have it, I was starting to lose faith in the manager buying a keeper to be fair, there is more than ample information out in the public domain that assures us investment in the defence will be made, the attack will be boosted by Chamakh, now Arsenal goalkeeping legend Bob Wilson tells gooners he is in the know about a new “world-class” goalie joing us.

  612. 78692 you beat me to it.

  613. choy says:

When are we going to reveal the signing of Chamakh?

  614. David says:

    I AM VITO MANNON-AY!

  618. Mr B says:

  619. gambon says:

The AKBs have been run out of town David!

  620. David says:

    Its a shame…

Pretty soon its going to get boring enough to spring up some old comments from the past!

Im going go back and have a look see…heehee :D

  621. Pedro says:

    Evening all!

  622. 78692 says:

Jaguar you realy are classic. Always banging on about fucking retards, mugs and AKBs who ‘disappear’.

Then on Sat you make comments slating the team and manager about 20-30mins in…

Then the tide turns and we turn it around. Where were you since then..?? I scanned the posts right thru to the end …not a fucking peep from ya.

So next time you start calling the ‘where are they when..??’ just remember that some people have got you sussed.

Diego Maradona, Argentina (Getty Images)Argentina coach Diego Maradona is not sorry for overlooking Inter duo Esteban Cambiasso and Javier Zanetti, and is furious with those who questioned his squad selection.

Fans were stunned to see both men left out of the Albiceleste’s provisional 30-man World Cup squad.

But Maradona is standing firm with his decision and has not apologised to those who were left disappointed.

“I am only sorry for Fernando Gago. He was one of my boys, but he played too little this year and that’s why I didn’t call him up,” he told Radio Del Plata.

“There is nothing strange and nothing to explain about Zanetti’s exclusion. It was already decided a long time ago. And as for Cambiasso, it’s the same story.”

Whether he fails or succeeds in delivering the World Cup for the first time since 1986, Maradona is confident of continuing his tenure at the helm.

“This is the idea, and since I took charge I started a plan not just thinking about the World Cup in South Africa, but also the Copa America,” he concluded.

  626. David says:

Oh Gambon…I know you’re going to love this one…

ManG – “Plus the team and players have proved a shit load of twats wrong; pundits, hacks, ex-players and a fair few “fans”…

It has been fun watching these so-called experts having to try and worm their way out of their obituries of AFC…”

    Amen to that !!!

I hardly bother to argue the toss with the doomers these days, its pointless. If some of them had any shame they’d acknowledge how wrong they were, but instead I get told that if we’d signed x, y and z we’d be ten points clear already. Lol.

How mad is that..?? We’re fighting for the title and and its stil not enough. It really is win or bust for some people, which I find really odd coming from Arsenal supporters.

Its a kind of wifebeating mentality in my book….this sort of love you-kick you relationship that some fans seem to have.

When a spud starts slating our club, do they join in..??

    Nite all….

    Trolololololololololollllloooollooooo

  627. David says:

    Theyre you have it..

The doomers for example…Lee Dixon have that Wife beating mentality!

    Trolololololololol.

  628. A says:

I don’t get it David, the joke that is – what has Sharky said there that is funny?!

  629. David says:

Thats right you wife beating Doomers!

Admit how wrong you were if you have any decency, pride, or shame!

Doom mongering bastards…what wrong with you wife beating lot?

  630. A says:

Or are you drunk?! You’re usually a bit brighter than this….

Evening Pedro, how’s it hanging? Has everyone seen that Gerrard’s house is on the market? seems he is actually off, wonder where he’ll end up

  631. David says:

    Personally A,

I think its freaking hilarious to label people who support Arsenal as having a “wife beating mentality”

Thats quite strong dont you think?

  632. David says:

    A,

Dont make me go back into the archives and pull out some magic quotes of yours…

And I mean some very real “bright” insightful predictions of yours.

  633. A says:

    Why David?

What do you think he means by saying that? You think he’s saying that Arsenal fans are wife beaters?

  634. David says:

    Read what i wrote.

  635. A says:

David you could do that for literally every single regular poster on here and make them look ridiculous, it wouldn’t prove anything.

That’s the reason that football is so popular, as well as blogs like this – it’s so difficult to accurately predict, and everyone sees it differently

  636. gambon says:

Everything I have ever said has come to pass.

  637. A says:

I did read what you wrote David, but I don’t understand how that is strong.

What do you interpret a “wife beating mentality” to be?

  638. A says:

true gambon, you’re basically the oracle….

  639. David says:

    Excatly what is said A,

    Jesus dont you understand English?

    A wife beating mentality!

  640. A says:

noone got any whispers about stevie g? i wonder if he could end up at chelsea, or city? not sure who would want him in the big leagues, who could afford him. Inter I guess would be the main one, would he get in the Madrid team?

  641. gambon says:

Kind of, except i dont bake cookies.

So do you reckon Cesc is off A?

  642. A says:

huh David, I’m just asking you to explain to me what a “wife beating mentality” is?

  643. David says:

And to add more humor to an even more funny joke.

Sharkey goes on to say that we should go on and admit how wrong we are…hahahahaha…not that Im a doomer ofcoarse.

    Im a staunch AKB! ;)

  644. A says:

Nah gambon, really don’t think it’ll be this year, although i was absolutely certain and i’m not 100% confident now, but I still don’t think it makes any sense. We’ll know soon though before the world cup which is a good thing.

  645. gambon says:

Cant see Inter putting him ahead of Snjeider.

AC Milan, Madrid or Chelsea I suppose, dont think anything else is realistic.

Where did you see his pad was up for sale?

  646. A says:

David the people who said we had no chance of top 4, and no chance of finishing ahead of city at the start of the season were proved wrong, as were many people who said we’d be nowhere near the top….

  647. David says:

Why are you asking me to explain that A?

    Its plain English?

If you have a suicidal mentality and you live for 100 years what does that mean? You will kill yourself at 101?

  648. A says:

Got sent it to my work email from a mate, it’s been doing the rounds.

House on an estate agent’s website, 3.3 mil in liverpool, and in one of the photos there are two framed shirts, and you can see a replica champs league trophy in a trophy cabinet, and some medals framed on the wall too. Surprised the link to it hasn’t made it into the bloggy demain

  649. David says:

    A

Im guessing you didnt read the whole thing.

Sharkey didnt say that…that was ManG..

    Read the whole thing.

And if you mean finishing 12 points behind the leaders is near the top then…absolutely! You are so right!

  650. A says:

Because I don’t understand what your interpretation of it would be David, so I was just hoping you could give me an explanation as to how the wife beating mentality could be connected to support of arsenal?

It isn’t plain English at all….

  651. David says:

    A,

    Fantastic question

Why dont you ask the guy who claims doomers have the wife beating mentality in the first place?

    Cant you read at all?

  652. A says:

We were right up there until the last 6 games David. You can’t make out that 12 points shows that we never had a chance and were never in touching distance of the leaders. We weren’t good enough overall, obviously, but we were for over 3/4 of the season

  653. A says:

huh David, you’re the only one here.

I’m guessing you don’t know what the connection is, or have any interpretation, but just see wife beaters, which is a bad thing, and arsenal fan, in the same sentence, therefore he must be saying something really bad about arsenal fans?

Nothing to do with reading, it’s about interpretation, and people have different interpretations of exactly the same phrase/comment

  654. Stu says:

So what do you think he meant by wife beater mentality David? Not having a wife to beat or any friends with wives to beat i dont know what their mentality is.
And we were 11 points behind chelsea.

  655. David says:

    6 games is 18 points.

That is not a trivial amount at all.

Are you saying that it was only after the last 6 games we were double digits away from the leaders?

  656. gambon says:

IMO we were about 11/12 points worse than Chelsea.

We have the attack to win the league (although questionable against tough opposition), but defensively we are a long long way off.

Wenger has to improve the defence dramatically while not losing the attacking effectiveness.

My worry for next year is more Man Utd than Chelsea, cos theres no way Chelsea will pick up 18 points in the big games like they did.

  657. gambon says:

    Stu, 12 really.

  658. David says:

    He explained it didnt he?

“Its a kind of wifebeating mentality in my book….this sort of love you-kick you relationship that some fans seem to have”

  659. Stu says:

We have the attack to win the league but not the attack to beat the big teams because we arent clinical enough imo. Add to that we push too many forward, especially against the big teams, and the few we have at the back get picked apart.

  660. David says:

Its funny why are people asking me to explain something someone else said?

    Why dont you ask him?

    You want my interpretation!

Its laughable and stupid to compare Arsenal fans to wife beaters! Simples!

  661. Stu says:

Yeah 12 with the goal difference but chelsea were like a machine last season. Conceded he least and scored the most. I fucking hate how good they were.

  662. gambon says:

    Lets hope AW changes things around;

    - Bob Wilson has suggested we are bringing a worldy in in goal (Buffon?)

    - Toures agent said he would like to play for us, this for me is an absolute no brainer.

    - Wenger has said CB will be signed if Gallas goes, which is a guarantee.

With a GK, CB, Toure & a cheaper backup CB (Upson?) we will have the best first XI in the league and a top squad.

  663. A says:

They weren’t that good though Stu, just in the big games, and absolutely smashed some teams….

very inconsistent at other times though.

imo the worst team to win the title in a fair while, there just weren’t any really good sides this season

  664. gambon says:

Utd conceded a few less, even with all their problems.

They do have an outstanding defence.

  665. Stu says:

We have conceded the same at home as chelsea and scored the same as them away from home. The difference being they really put teams to the sword at home (20 goals more) and are relatively tight at the back away from home.

  666. gambon says:

Infact with Toure and song we wouldnt even need another CB, so just GK, CB and Toure.

  667. Stu says:

Yeah sorry united conceded 4 less.

  668. Stu says:

And Van Der Weil is we can be picky Gambon.

  669. A says:

yeah gambon, buffon and yaya would be absolutely amazing. No idea who as centre back, but someone quality, that goes without saying!

I reckon if we got yaya we wouldn’t need another centre back. We’d have new cb and vermy starting, then jd, sol, song, and yaya as back ups

  670. Stu says:

    *if

  671. David says:

Does Utd have an outstanding defense

Or is it that Teams like Aston Villa dont have the balls to go and attack them even with a 1 man advantage.

They only have to work 1/3 of the time

The rest of the EPL lie down and take it.

  672. A says:

i’d keep lansbury around as a squad player too, another athletic box to box centre mid

  673. gambon says:

I would love Van Der Wiel & Hazard, but they are luxury signings for sure.

  674. David says:

I still say we should get 1 more CB in there

    JD is injury prone.

That leaves Sol…who is more than Capable but inevitably cant sustain 2 games per week…

It might be we may have to wait and see what the squad looks like in Jan

  675. gambon says:

Id like to see all the older ‘kids’ loaned out.

  676. Stu says:

We really need 3 CBs. 2 as first choice and the third to rotate with to keep the other 2 fresh. A big problem this season was that Gallas and Vermaelen got no rest, played the first 20 or so PL games and even the CL games and neither got a rest because Wenger had no faith in Silvestre or Senderos (rightly so).

  677. Stu says:

*need to have 3 CBs, not buy 3.

  678. David says:

If that was really the case Stu then Wenger wouldve gone out and got a CB before the summer window closed.

JD had been out since the start of the season.

  679. gambon says:

I think there is still a chance he will buy a top class DM (toure, toulalan) and move Song in alongside Vermaelen.

  680. A says:

i reckon lansbury is ready to be a squad player gambon, and we need someone with that athleticism in the squad other than diaby….

Wilshere potentially could be kept around as well, if rosicky leaves. Saw rumours about hamburg, though if he stays then wilshere back to bolton would be great for him.

Rest loaned out, maybe even eastmond if we got yaya

szczesny, bartley, ayling, coquelin, traore, frimpong, eastmond, henderson, JET, freeman all loaned out.

Have I missed anyone?! If eduardo stays maybe loan vela too

  681. Stu says:

I sure hope not Gambon. It would be a waste of the last 2 seasons where Song went from clueless to confident in the DM position. Having him move and have to settle in a new position would seriously damage us imo.

  682. A says:

I don’t think song would be permanently a centre back yet gambon.

Toure and Song both playing in the midfield three with cesc would make us so solid and strong in there against the big teams, along with buffon in goal, and a quality centre back alongside vermy….

  683. gambon says:

Nordveit, Watt & Barazite also need to be loaned or sold, id like to see the first 2 loaned & the latter sold to Ajax or something.

  684. A says:

Oh yeah gambon, forgot about watt and nordveit.

Maybe nordveit could stick around and offer cover at centre back or dm.

I’ve always liked the look of barazite, but i guess the fact that he’s never gotten near the squad shows that there must be something wrong with him, or he’s just a nob, so maybe get rid.

simpson and randall to be sold too obviously

  685. A says:

loan fabianski to blackpool if they get promoted too

  686. A says:

meh that means nothing david, just says he needs to train for 2-3 weeks to be adapted to that position, could happen, though i think he’s better in midfield, certainly at the moment

arsenal.com is becoming more and more shit as a website, ridiculous headlines, and now transfer rumours. it’s becoming more and more like a shitty tabloid not interested in reporting things factually. really pisses me off!

  687. gambon says:

“He needs to practise two or three weeks in there to have all the knowledge of the game.”

In other words he needs a preseason in there.

I would love to see the Song-Toure-Cesc MF myself.

    If our first team next season was;

    ——————Buffon

    Sagna——–CB———Vermaelen—-Clichy

    ——–Song——Cesc——-Toure

    –Chamakh———RVP———–Arshavin

I will be the first to the bookies to place £20 on us winning it.

  688. David says:

    http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/wenger-we-have-money-to-overtake-chelsea

Is this true? And if it is..then I’d go for Rodwell or that Ettiene Cap (sp?) guy…

Yaya Will dynamically change our football.

  689. A says:

yep gambon, same, what a side, though chamakh would be interchangable with alot of other players.

so solid in the middle of the park

  690. David says:

Rodwell will cover games when both are at the ACN…

I wont mind Rodwell and Denilson as back up

  691. A says:

rodwell is another who would be awesome, and he’d add depth too in both defence and dm. seems he’s gonna sign a new contract at everton though, pity

  692. David says:

Signing a new contract is just so they can get top dollar A,

They have Osmond and Felleini they certainly dont need Rodwell.

  693. gambon says:

In terms of his career Rodwells probably best staying at Everton til he’s 21 or so, then moving when hes the best player at Everton.

  694. David says:

Disagree Gambon you have to pounce on them bright and early as utd did with Rooney.

He’s a special talent and even if he wasnt he has the engine to make up for it.

Id certainly want to get in Rodwell and Ozil…

If Yaya is 90% gone then please make us proud Arsene

  695. Stu says:

Dont watch any Roma matches so dont know anything about him (apart from when he was shit against united and chavski) but does anyone rate Mexes? He hasnt been included in the France squad but that means fuck all with that twat in charge of them. Anyone think he would be worth a bid as our CB?

  696. Jaguar says:

That Capoue-Etienne guy looks sound. But youtube can make even that wanker Diabolical better than Kaka.

  697. Stu says:

Buffon, Yaya and CHamakh. Thats pretty much as good as it gets in term of top players for us. I dont think anyone knows what defender we are going after because there doesnt seem to be any top class ones available or affordable.

  698. gambon says:

    Stu

Id say as a squad player yes, as a first choice no, he has never lived up to his reputation as a 20 year old wonderkid.

I would also like a tall 6’3″ or so CB alongside Vermaelen.

  699. Stu says:

I get the feeling that if we were to buy Seb Frey then there would be a new manager of France and he would come out of retirement and ruin everything. I mean, apparently he is the best french keeper but refuses to be selected because of Domenech. Knowing our luck there would be a new manager who wants Frey as French number 1 and Frey would be off on international duty.

  700. Stu says:

I would render a guess that these are either sarcasm, a piss take or some yid on a wind up. But if not, and these are real arsenal fans then oh my fucking goat! What sp@stics!

“Shut up and Fuck off !! Almunia is number 1 for ever at Arsenal. You have forgotten his excellent reflexes. I am sorry for you and your website for these nonsenses.

    May 13, 2010 | Almunia For Ever
i think almunia is the best keeper in the prem some of his performances have been great this year he is just not consistant enough, i want cesc to go to he is past his best now and we shoudl look to the future maybe push eboue into his position , i also think titus bramble would be a welcome addition to the squad he has easily been the top defender in europe this year .

i fucking said that would happen all along !

we might get 35-50 mil .. but we will need that to replace him ? so why fucking sell him…. he is under contract til 2134 ..

why doesnt wenger do whats best for the club ..

  716. ethangunner says:

especially with wengers replacement strategies ..
it takes 2 years for the cover to be good enough …

why sell our best players ?

isnt that the sort we should be recruiting ?
    NOT FUCKING SELLING !?

    this club !

    FUCK ME !

and we sell him ! ….

isnt this whats project youth was all about?? , to wait like we are pulling teeth for a player to come good ..

waste 4 years on the cunt only to sell him for 50 mil ..

    BRILLIANT !

    BRILLIANT strategy ! !

  720. ethangunner says:

no its the board jag ! HAS TO BE !

theres been more movement in that board room recently than the Arsenal player roster ! those fuckers would never let an external source like wenger pull the purse strings .

i wouldnt want wenger in charge of my money .. in fact
id say the only money he can have a say on , is the transfer money he creates ..

even then then he hands it over im sure he takes a spotters fee ..

but the real problem is lack of ambition at the top .

  721. ethangunner says:

lets face it the board dont give a fuck about the prize money .. lets take the trophies away for a sec , because we can see they aint interested in that ! …

but prize money in the EPL is in 720 k increments ..

so 3rd or 1st is only like 1.4 mil .

not worth worrying about to wenger ..

HOWEVER .. the C.L is big money , surprise.. surprise we focus on that every season !

if the fans havent worked out its the board , then they should ..

because this is ruining wengers name ..
either that or he is 1 fucked up dude !

  722. ethangunner says:

spurs and man Shitty want C.L football not just to say they are in it !

they want its fruit .. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

    so does arsenal …..

  723. Alco says:

Arsenal problem is Wenger and his personal ambition
To win trophy with the youngest squad
I mean he spent money for Nasri Ramsey but refuse to spend on proper
    Replacement for Flamini
He mock the fans who screams for experience with the signing of Silvestre

I mean why the hell it’s always has to be young?
Because he can mold them the way he wants
    George Weah Pornstar Petit Thuram?
Wenger wants his players to feel that they owe everything to Wenger

Our club’s management is run like a mid-table French Club

  724. ethangunner says:

look at hill-wood one minute states he doesnt want the yanks money … then sacks a long standing board member and replaces them, with the VERY SAME CUNT he despises..

sorry if you think wenger can control the fiances when these sorts for billionaires are joining the board , your all delusional …

this club needs to be bought out !

  725. ethangunner says:

wenger just enforces a strategy to tide the club over until they are buoyant again ..

well if cesc leaves , theres wengers transfer kitty .

if the board prioritize paying off 131 mil in debt and not spending on players WHAT THE FUCK CAN WENGER DO ??

    what he’s doing !@

  726. Alco says:

The reason Dead-Wood so welcoming Kroenke
Is because Usmanov scare the shit out of him
    If Usmanov takes control
It means Dean will come back and will show Dead-Wood the exit door

  727. Pat says:

I actually think Wenger is stalling on a new contract because he’s worried the board will accept a bid for Cesc.

  728. ethangunner says:

my bugbear with wenger is not recognizing talent ..
and his persistence with crap average at best players ..

you can only see the same players fuck up only so many times before you start questioning wenger’s judgment .

he is a good coach but as a manager cant make an influential sub to save his bacon ..

lets talent like vela and jack sit on the bench ..
when cesc probably wasnt as naturally talented as either at the same age , yet their careers go on hold because of the marmites .

but to say wenger isnt spending .. to the average fan who doesnt think behind the scenes sure ..

you would blame wenger .. he is the voice ..

but he isnt in charge of releasing 60 mil when he wants too !

im fucking sure of that !!!!!!

  729. ethangunner says:

    can you imagine ?

wenger : hey hillwood just took 60 mil out of that 131 mil youve been saving up all year ..

i want to buy messi !

Hillwood : – sure Arsene take it all :)

    YEAH RIGHT !!!!!

  730. Alco says:

The board is so dependable on Wenger
I think they will hear his demand
I still think both Wenger and the board has mutual interest

  731. ethangunner says:

    pat
the rumors are cesc wants to leave !!!..

you know what happens in that case dont you ..

    wenger lets him go ..

the question is .. does Arsene want glory ?
or is he prepared to go down with a sinking ship ?

i know what id do …

or the board need to release funds ..

im not even guessing anymore ..

im sure im reading between the lines correctly ..

    wenger isnt getting funds ..

the board want this Club run as a corporation . not as a football club with passionate fans !

also remember cesc said the day he wants to go he will walk into arsenes office ..

well that must of already taken place ..
and wenger knows he can spend now !

  732. Pat says:

Vela never deserved more chances than he got. He was always shit when given a chance.

  733. ethangunner says:

if we lose cesc – gallas and AA23 is already bitch talking us down .. you might as well condemn this club to another 2 years of transition …

  734. ethangunner says:

pretty unfair pat .. he has looked good on the ball , lacked a bit of experience .. but thats why you play him …

he suits our play and given the opportunities cesc had , he would be far sharper .. and used to the English way .

no way denilson or diaby should be playing in front of him ..

  735. ethangunner says:

not if you value the long term benefits of the club..

vela had far more skill 1 or 2 years ago just like jack .. wenger does his best to frustrate these players im fucking sure of it !!!

bit hard to comment on how good a player isnt , when he doesnt get the chances other get ..

  736. ethangunner says:

it happened to senderos – theo – vela – jack ..

all could of been great with confidence on their side .

like the confidence diaby , almunia or denilson have of being included when other YOUNGER players clearly have more skill than the above !!! and are left out week in ….week out !

and wenger gives them one shot .. talk about pressure .

  737. Pat says:

Vela doesn’t play in Denilson’s and Diaby’s position, so he can’t play over them anyway.

  738. ethangunner says:

and at least vela isnt wanting to go back to mexico ..

i can understand why as its a shit hole :)

but id rather invest 6 months in getting him settled

than watch diaby – denilson and song .. plus some new watered down cesc ..

    PASS

  739. Pat says:

Theo was never going to be great and to be honest, I’ve never seen a single sign of talent from him. Vela and Jack have talent. Senderos ended his own Arsenal career. He made way too many mistakes, even more than Denilson. His howlers were Fabianskiesque.

Wilshere will get his chance. Wenger did the right thing to loan him out and I think he should be loaned out for another 6 months to be honest.

  740. Pat says:

Who said Vela doesn’t want to go to Mexico ethan?

Song and DIaby are both much better than Vela, especially Song. Diaby had a very good season until the Barca game. Thats where everyones performances dropped though.

  741. ethangunner says:

    pat

you can rotate anyone to the wing from the wing ..
rosicky interchange AA23 , anyone really .. narsi centrally to the wing , wengers done it many times ..

what im saying is essentially you can rotate interchange anyone with the way wenger swaps them up ..

    do i agree no ?

but with wengers current mindset he can play vela on a wing or as a forward .

he played 2 years in spain on the left wing ..
and he had some classic classy moments there , but he played every 2nd game there ..

    not 1 in 10 ..

hardly enough chances to get a run of form together .. you know that !

  742. ethangunner says:

only reason song looks good is he is played every week , give him a rest for 15 games and see how good he gets ..

ring rusty would be an understatement he does 1 or 2 blunders a game that no one notices anyhow ..
can you imagine if he was given 1 game in 10 .. he would be going backwards .

  743. ethangunner says:

pat you need to compare age .. as a footballers life is about 15 years tops ..

diaby – song are almost half way ..

vela is at the start .. and being stunted by wenger .

all im saying is if you going to secure this player from mexico taking 3 years to do so ,

fuck at least play him :)

  744. Pat says:

Vela got enough chances and was constantly the most disappointing player when he got the chances. I don’t believe he deserved any more based on those performances. We couldn’t afford to play him when we had Nasri, Rosicky, Arshavin, even Theo.

Vela fell over every time a defender went by him.

  745. ethangunner says:

look how long nik b took , with persistance .

even now he’s not a finished product , but if he didnt get games to score goals we would be sharpening the axe on him also !

    NIK HAD CHANCES !
    a Lions share ….

nik b – song – diaby denilson all got more chances than they deserved too !

or we wouldnt have been moaning about them for such a sustained period .. even eboue ..

rambo – jack – vela never got much chance this season …

and they should of been the ones who rose to the top ..

bit hard if your never given the stage to do so !

  746. Pat says:

Nik B was scoring when he was coming on. Villa, Spurs, etc. Crucial assists and goals even when he barely played. Vela did nothing.

  747. Jaguar says:

Pat,that wanker Diaby,W*n*er’s love child is not better than Vela.

  748. Pat says:

Diaby is miles better than Vela. He’s been better than Nasri this season too. He had a very good season up to the Barca game, but then again, thats where all our players started playing poorly.

Theres a reason BIG CLUBS like Inter, specifically Mourinho, want Diaby.

  749. ethangunner says:

    Pat Says:

Nik B was scoring when he was coming on. Villa, Spurs, etc. Crucial assists and goals even when he barely played. Vela did nothing.
    —————————————–
can you even name a game where he played 90 minutes ?
    this season ????

  750. Pat says:

ethan, I’m talking about Nick B 2 seasons ago when he rarely got chances. He got sporadic sub appearances, but he actually did something and started a few on merit. Vela did fuck all when he got the chances, unlike Ramsey who was actuaally playing more and more. Again, based on merit.

  751. ethangunner says:

nik b prior to christmas was woeful (injury).. even when he was supposed to step up at christmas ,HE DIDNT !

he lost his spot to AA23 . at the end he came good ..
but who can say if vela played as much as he did this season vela wouldnt be even more advanced .

  752. ethangunner says:

ramsey played because song went to the ACN !

  753. Pat says:

Bendtner never lost his spot to AA23. He got injured, came back, got reinjured against Spurs. Came back and was scoring/assisting in every game(slight exaggeration, but not far off) since coming back from injury.

  754. ethangunner says:

    not merit

  755. Pat says:

No he didn’t ethan. Ramsey NEVER played in Song’s position. Denilson played once Song went and if not him, Eastmond got a few appearances. Ramsey played when Cesc was injured and/or rested.

  756. ethangunner says:

nik came back just before the transfer window opened and wenger called for a striker to step up ..

    AA23 did ..

  757. Pat says:

AA23 played CF when Bik B was injured ethan. get your facts straight. The russian never replaced him. He was forced to play there for 2-3 games.

  758. ethangunner says:

well like i said they all can interchange so easily ..

but same donkey different carrot .. Ramsey took over from cesc .. had cesc not got injured .. im sure i could add ramsey to the vela pile …

  759. ethangunner says:

    2 or 3 games ?

    Arsenal 2 – 0 Stoke

Arshavin (left) watches his shot find the bottom corner of the goal

    By Ian Hughes

Arsenal ended their three-game losing streak by comfortably beating Stoke.
Andrey Arshavin missed a one-on-one chance, Samir Nasri was denied and Cesc Fabregas had a penalty saved as Thomas Sorensen kept Arsenal out early on.
Arshavin poked in a shot to open the scoring, before Armand Traore’s cross hit the bar and post, and Fabregas’s goal-bound shot hit Emmanuel Eboue.
Arsenal sealed the victory when substitute Aaron Ramsey rifled home from the edge of the box.
The result will be a welcome relief for Arsene Wenger, who has endured a difficult week, and it will help the Frenchman fondly remember his 500th Premier League game in charge of the Gunners.
Stoke had a chance to take advantage of Arsenal’s poor form of late to spoil the occasion of Wenger’s landmark, which was also Arsenal’s 100th game at the Emirates, but they never looked capable.

Win helps Arsenal ‘start again’, says Wenger

Other than Rory Delap’s long throw-ins which caused Arsenal keeper Manuel Almunia to flap uncertainly, the visitors were the kind of guests that were too well-behaved to create an upset.
Respect, not in evidence when Wenger refused to shake Mark Hughes’s hand in midweek, was apparent all afternoon – and too much at that as Stoke allowed Arsenal to stroke the ball around at will.
But as is often the case with the Gunners, their intricate build-up was sometimes too elaborate and with only Arshavin up front their options were limited.
However, when they did get it right – as they did for the opening goal – it was typically fluent.
Arshavin collected a return pass from Fabregas, dug the ball out from under his feet and slotted a low shot into the bottom corner.

    606: DEBATE
Arshavin was played down the middle today and was involved in all our attacks
_viva_Video Didn’t Kill The Radio Star, Eboué Did R.I.P MJ (It Could Be Worse…)
It was a relief for the hosts, who had already missed a number of chances by then.
Arshavin’s heavy touch allowed Sorensen to save and Nasri saw his shot beaten away by the Stoke stopper. Sorensen was also at his very best to save Fabregas’s penalty after Delap had tripped Arshavin.
While Stoke’s rearguard was just about being held together by Sorensen’s excellent performance, their forward play consisted of hopeful balls over the top and Tuncay being flagged for offside.
Just after Arsenal’s first goal, they almost doubled their advantage but somehow contrived to miss the chance.
Traore’s cross was deflected on to the bar and post, and Fabregas smashed the rebound goalwards but the ball hit Eboue, preventing a certain goal.
After the break, the lively Arshavin tested Sorensen with a low shot, but the keeper did well to get down to his left to push the ball away.

    Pulis pleased with Stoke ‘spirit’

Despite his diminutive stature the Russian, who earlier in the week said Arsenal need some taller players, was leading the line very well.
He was involved again when the Gunners launched a fast break and worked the ball across goal but Arshavin’s shot smacked the top of the bar after taking a deflection.
A second goal was proving elusive, and there were signs that Arsenal were a little nervous at the back while the lead remained as the slenderest of margins.
But any lingering worries were calmed when Ramsey played a one-two with Arshavin and fired in a shot with the outside of his boot that gave Sorensen no chance.
Arsenal now move up to third place in the table, leapfrogging their neighbours Tottenham, who play at Everton on Sunday.
The only blemishes on the Gunners’ afternoon were injuries suffered by Emmanuel Eboue, William Gallas and Tomas Rosicky.
    Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger:
“Arshavin did very well. He played through the middle and, considering his size, he gave the central defenders big problems.
“His movement was good as was the quality of his control, and he finished his goal well – he could have scored three goals but he had a very good game.
“It should have been a more comfortable victory but Stoke never gave up and we had a very good first half but in the second half, our recent defeats played on our minds and we were a bit more restricted in our play.
“It was good for us to keep our focus, not give any chances away and in the end we won the game.”
    Stoke manager Tony Pulis:
“Arsenal have so much quality that they get their chances no matter how well you play.
“It was a big, big challenge, but the lads never stopped working. They did smashing and it was a much improved performance on last year.
“Arsenal played some smashing football but I was really pleased with the character and the spirit of my squad.”

Vela got more chances than u may remember Ethan, but he was anonymous every single time he came on.

  761. Pat says:

Only player who didn’t get enough chances this season was Merida. Wilshere was sent on loan, which is even better for us.

  762. Pat says:

Oh, I only copy and pasted the line-up. Not sure why the whole report showed up

from defenders to strikers its pretty clear where AA23 has played since december .. and thats left or central of goal .. he certainly wasnt lining up behind nasri in the midfield !

  764. ethangunner says:

also doesnt matter what possession he plays when it comes to scoring he is never out of the box !

not sure what mute point your trying to make pat ..
but cesc and AA23 was the strike force this season and RVP had he remained fit ..

even nik chipped in, with enough chances to do so ..

  765. ethangunner says:

    possession=position

    6 starts 14 subs ..

1 start in the EPL 10 subs probly for less than 20 minutes each time ..

200 minutes or 2 games .. so he didnt even play 3 full games in the EPL this season !

  768. ethangunner says:

    6 starts 14 subs .. the whole season !

    starts 1 game gets 1 goal ..

    sub’d in for the last 20 – 10 – 5 – 3 minutes ..

yes he had his chances :)

  769. ethangunner says:

he played more the season before ..

so much for the advancement of project youth ..

neither season , was he over played ..

and he is suffering for it ..

he has bags of skill , but can never get the chance or have enough faith shown in him to believe it himself !

    theo’s a bit the same ..

  770. ethangunner says:

and to cap off my bitchin thats why i hate wenger :)

  771. ethangunner says:

he had more starts in the C.L than in the EPL !
so yes diaby – song – denison was favored over a young wonder kid who could be greater than cesc .. but with 1 fucking start what do you reckon ???

  772. ethangunner says:

and only 2 the season before !

i mean FFS pat what more can i say ??????

  773. ethangunner says:

if your going to do something as twisted as project youth , then show faith in the talent at least ..

anyone can see theo – vela – jack have more POTENTIAL at their respective ages than a crocked diaby – song and denilson ..

to persist with them for the long term cannot be what wenger wanted .. or why get wellington nasri vela etc . to begin with ?

so you cant stunt their careers watching fools like them wear the red and white ?

  774. ethangunner says:

so you ‘can’ stunt their careers…..

  776. kelsey says:

    ethan morning/evening.

If vela was in our long term plans he would start more often, end of.He had two seasons at a crap club osasuna and he is another who hasn’t improved otherwise Wenger would play him.

Project youth, MAY produce some players worthy of the shirt and standard that we used to expect, but who has actually come through the ranks in the last five seasons to establish themselves in the first team as a regular.Cesc of course, Gibbs who will challenge Clichy next season and the only player who we loaned out and came back a better player is Song.
I have high hopes for Ramsey, but the Wenger way,he will be limited to games.

I don’t go along with this too young to play.If they are good enough play them.

Cesc had one major advantage the others don’t have, he was slowly introduced into the invinsible team, with bags of experience around him.We don’t have that luxury now.

realistically we can’t suddenly ship out 6 players now, as some have suggested, we need to have a good look at our coaching staff, and initially bolster the defence.

I could name you most of the team who are open to improvement, and that in itself speaks volumes.

  777. Rohan says:

Arsene Wenger has more than played Ramsey often. His management of Aaron Ramsey imo has been top top class.

  778. Meneurdejeu10 says:

    Morning Gooner Nation

Cesc can go so we can go back to a 4-4-2

Arsene Wenger should not be given 40million euros

Cesc for Toure + Krkic and 20-25million euros

Bojan Krkic is gonna be epic!

Sell Vela for 5-10million euros to a middle ranked Spanish club

  779. bnsb says:

M10 Good morning. Loan Vela out to another EPL club – Birminghham or even New Castle for one year.

  780. bnsb says:

Wenger or someone frequents this place. Did someone here say a few weeks back we could run risk of being Liverpool next year? :)

  781. ethangunner says:

    rohan

    i do agree
rambo was used more than the others ..

    7 starts ..

hardly prolific .. but more than 1 … correct ..

    Kel .
I don’t go along with this too young to play.If they are good enough play them.
    ————————-
me neither .. if you have a wonder kid at the club give him a chance to excel .

wenger is trying to bring the below average up in standard as against trying to bring the above average to stardom ..

agreed , helping the jordies stay up will give him some experience . if wenger wont play him next season ..

i doubt wenger will sell him ..
    1 start this season ..
it was hardly an indication he was over used and failed :)

  783. bnsb says:

eg is Vela “homegrown” ? No, I think.

  784. Meneurdejeu10 says:

    Good Morning bnsb

Mate, Carlos Vela seems to me the type of player who only plays well when the sun is shining and there is no contact.

He has pace, skill and touch but he seems to be a soft touch. Seems to be in the Theo mould but more talented. Both are fine lads that you would want to marry your daughters to. But they will not win you matches in Manchester, Bolton, Blackburn, Stoke and Liverpool in December time when it’s nasty outside. Denilson as well.

Nasri and Wilshere are fiery characters with talent. Skillful enough to dribble, yet abrasive enough to handle themselves and not get discouraged during tough times.

  785. kelsey says:

I said i have high hopes for Ramsey, is what i said. 7 starts is correct, but my question was will he be given a chance to get more games next season once he has recovered.he won’t learn anything on the bench.

Vela is another one trick pony the “chip” too lightweight for the rigours of the PL. However at a different club who play a different way he may excel IMO

  786. georgian1gunner says:

merida is the most underrated player in our team , he was never given a chance.. in nationalteam he is a real lider… at arsenal he scored great goal against liverpool, also impressed when came at sabstitute agains bolton, scored there too..

  787. drona says:

Fabregas wants his future sorted out. What future??? I thought he categorically said he wants to stay at Arsenal. Anyway if he wants to leave bad luck to us and him. Was that why Arsene was so grim-faced in the interview after the Fulham game?

  788. Meneurdejeu10 says:

    Good Morning georgian1gunner

I absolutely agree with you. Merida looks like he is a terrific player. Tougher than Denilson,Vela and Walcott.

  789. MickyDidIt89 says:

Oh jeepers, so we replace Cesc with the Ramseys. Youth developed replaced by youth developing. Cosmic.

  790. bnsb says:

Fabregas – 3 million down the drain if he leaves.

If true, a) we paid him that and b) he leaves.

  791. bnsb says:

Youth developed replaced by youth developing. Cosmic.

Thats what make the project “ho, so exciting”

  792. bnsb says:

Sorry, that tinyurl, us being Liverpool next season. Sat on Submit comment button bit early :)

  793. bnsb says:

    Five-in-a-row.

  794. MickyDidIt89 says:

Strewth, I was thinking about my attendance record. Since I gave up my season ticket, I try and tie in games with a business meeting London way. I used to cherry pick the ‘prestige’ games, now I target the games I reckon we might win. Sad but true.

  795. Pat says:

Vela is no wonder kid. I watched him for Osasuna and I watch him for Mexico. Reyes was much, much better when he was starting out in Spain.

Theo is shit and I think you should stop including Song in the same group as Diaby and Denilson. Song is one of the leagues best/classiest CDM.

  796. gambon says:

TBH If cesc leaves we could totally rebuild the side, which might not be a bad thing. We’ll get £50m for Cesc, and can replace him with Gourcuff for £25m, or Hamsik for £20m, or Ozil for £15m, then spend the rest elsewhere.

I would use the rest on Van Der Wiel & Hazard.

    Our first team could be;

    ———–Buffon

    VDWiel—CB——Vermaelen—-Clichy

    —–Song—-Gourcuff—-Toure

    -Hazard——-RVP——–Arshavin

*Hazard prob wouldnt be in the first team but just for illustration purposes.

  797. Morse says:

And another dpressing question is about Ramseys recovery, will he be the same again after such a horrific injury?

  798. gambon says:

    Morse

He will be fine. His injury wasnt that bad at all.

  799. Meneurdejeu10 says:

The board may bank most of the Cesc money to pay off loans. I am afraid

  800. ethangunner says:

Song is one of the leagues best/classiest CDM.
    ————
hahaha tell that too barca in the 1st leg when they broke away from him twice to end the season and score on his ass !

    :)

pat your deluded .. song is too slow to be in the center of the park wenger knows it thats why he wants him as a cd .

  801. gambon says:

There are no loans to pay off, so if they do that they are just pocketing the money for themselves.

  802. ethangunner says:

song has a major error in him each game ..
    he’s improved yes ..

is he the long term answer .. logic should suggest not ..

  803. gambon says:

Song is typical of our whole team, great against inferior opposition but weak against the better teams.

  804. GoonerT1m says:

like us maybe cesc is fed up with the we*ker as well?, maybe he will use this barcelona thing to find out if any major signings are due?, if not then i am sure he will go, would you want to work for a club like this, who treats the fans like sheep and you have a manager who can’s resolve a goalkeeping problem after 4 years. pathetic.

  805. gnarleygeorge9 says:

    Evening all

There seems to be some well paid staff of The Arsenal Football Club. Why would they want the boat to be rocked so to speak. We are told that there are debts to be honoured, yet when it comes to paying the executive staff, they always seem to find the cash to bring a new member of staff on board, but a quality player?

  806. chippy says:

Morse, Ramseys was a clean break with no ligament damage or ankle damage unlike Eduardos, totally different injuries and Ramsey will come back fine and dandy,

    Dr Chippy :-)

  807. Pedro says:

    NEW POST!

  808. gambon says:

    HA HA

  809. gambon says:

HA HA PEDRO, THE JOKE’S ON YOU
